Wait, wait, wait. I has an idea.
What if when Grima and Robin became one in the original timeline instead of Grima completely taking over thoughts and feelings merged between them. Spefically the love Robin feels for her family.
Grima!Robin still loves her family, but now it's a twisted, possessive sort of love. She may have killed Chrom, but she'll be damned if she lives without him. So she made him her risen king. Morgan was young enough that Grima!Robin was able to draw him in with motherly affection before twisting his mind with dark magic to stay with her and Risen!Chrom forever.
Unfortunately, teenagers can be so rebellious. Just ask Grima!Robin, her teenager, Lucina, is leading an army against her. Her own mother! Very well if Lucina wants to play her little games, Grima!Robin will play along. After all, this game is temporary, and a mother's love is forever.
Grima!Robin was furious when she learned that damned dragon sent HER daughter into the past. She became livid when reports came back that Morgan was caught in the crossfire. Deciding enough was enough Grima!Robin and Risen!Chrom went into the past themselves.
Grima!Robin sent her husband to find their children while she herself delt with her father. Validar was a complicated feeling Grima!Robin had that frankly she did not want to deal with. Easier and simpler to use him until she can kill him. Maybe she'll eventually make him a Risen too. The children might like to play with their grandfather.
But then her past self gave birth to a babu Lucina. Oh, well maybe Grima!Robin should let this play out a little longer. Not only could she go home with her own Lucina and Morgan but she can also take home this Robin's Lucina and Morgan too. Double the children to love! Oh yes what a wonderful plan! She must tell her husband at once! He'll be so happy to have young children again!
#fire emblem#fire embem awakening#chrobin#f!robin#robin#grima!robin#mama grima!robin#fe:a#fe: awakening#chrom#risen!chrom#idk why but the idea of robin still trying to be a mama after getting possed appeals to me#like she's still evil and her love is all twisted but she's still a MOTHER

So I actually have a teeny tiny project that I’ve been mulling for like two years
I have like seventeen more Frederick stories that I’ve come up with, which includes finally introducing their third child LOL (technically the third baby of all Robin’s and her husbands, but of course for me primarily that’s Freddybear)
I’ve mentioned it before, but I don’t think I’ve ever drawn or written a story abt her,,,
But her name is Reflet, and she’s adorable, and she’s a total daddy’s girl. Her future self is like, around 12 or 13, and she’s just a spindly little stick of a baby,,
She’s very closed off and shy, and really only engages with her dad because he raised her. She was born shortly before Grima took over Robin, so she doesn’t know her mama.
But she does look EXACTLY like Robin does!! Silver hair, dark eyes, the whole nine yards...
She wants to be the same class as her daddy- as Fred’s kid, she has strong magic affinity but hates it because she’d rather be a knight than a mage. She also calls her father “Daddy” unlike Morgan and Marc, who call him “Father/Dad” and “Papa”, respectively.
She’s much much closer to her dad than the other two, and when she comes from the future, she’s solely interested in spending time with him than anybody else; is indifferent and bordering on cold towards her mom and siblings.
HOWEVER, she is conflicted about being around him, because she knows that he’s not her daddy...and she wants to go back to him. The reason she was sent from the future is pretty tragic ;; ^ ;; It hurts because like Gerome, she knows that he’s not her actual dad, and part of her doesn’t want to get too close to him. But at the same time, he looks like her dad, and smells like him, and talks like him, and smiles like he does, and braids her hair like him,,,
And of course I’ve also thought a lot about baby Reflet from present time and she is just the cutest little baby girl ;;; A ;;;
IDK i just felt like i needed to type all of this out because it’s been a while since I’ve written regularly and I just have so many ideas and so little time,,,,
Thank you for letting me ramble,, if you guys are interested in baby number 3, i will definitely draw her up so you have a visual!!!!
#not related#just some ideas of mine#i'm working on some fe engage stories rn#but i've just had freddybear and his family on my mind lately so#i had to talk abt it

even better idea: the robin only pairable units having child units...
These guys were much harder and I don’t have ideas for Say’ri, Yen’fay, Gangrel, or Walhart, sorry :(
- Tiki has a son (seriously why are there no male manaketes in this game) who would ordinarily be bouncy and cheerful, but is clingy and prone to crying a lot due to bad memories and nightmares of the future. Calls his parents “Mama” and “Papa”. His manakete form is pale green with white accents.
- I like to think Basilio’s and Flavia’s children don’t get along. Like, at all. They’ll fight on the same team to stay alive, sure. Reluctantly. With minimal friendly fire. But none of that affectionate old married couple banter like their parents.
- Aversa has a son who was completely devoted to Validar and Master Grima. When he learns that in this timeline, Validar is dead, Aversa learned the truth of what he did to her, Robin refuses to carry out Grima’s will, Morgan is a total dork, and all of them have sided with Chrom, it kinda breaks him.
- Emmeryn has a daughter from a timeline where it was Chrom who was assassinated before Lucina could be born. She is very shy and soft-spoken, not believing herself to be leadership material. The Brand is on her neck, under her left ear. When Chrom sees it, he immediately is like “oh for fuck’s sake- LUCINA HOW MANY OF YOU-”
- Anna has a daughter who, thanks to Engage, isn’t even an OC at this point lmao.
- I don’t feel qualified to give Priam a child as I’ve never touched the Tellius games and I feel like his kid should reference someone or something from them.
#fire emblem#fe13#fe oc#fe too many to tag#someone asked me something#anonymous#if i feel like firing up the sims soon i’ll try designing these guys in that#also i spent way too much time last night on behind the name trying to name these kids lol

PLEASE tell me about your Robin headcanons, I'm so curious now.
oh beans i didn't expect a response to my meme! (i mean, it has happened before but my answer was a bit undercooked) normally i'd say my headcanons are cringe and try not to talk about them but THIS TIME i am excited to indulge, mainly to have them written down on my art page :> this may end up being a long boy answer lol
(as a brief preamble, i've pretty much been building off of these robin headcanons since like, middle school or so (at least 5 years) for my smash fanfiction. while the amount of Stuff i've imagined for them might make them a bit different from their original characters, the context of awakening is what prevents me from turning them into full-on oc's)
anyway. i'm not responsible for any damages this may induce. the actual hcs will be under the cut
Both of them
so to start out, both the female and male variants are separate entities rather than like, alternate dimension counterparts. in fact, they're siblings (reeaally starting a bit out there i know). for reference, the girl (younger of the two) is named reflect (a misreading of the japanese name i grew attached to. it is what it is) while the boy is just robin. this is why i usually try drawing them with different clothes so they don't look like clones of each other lol. i like to think some aspects like the shirt and the black robe and tall brown boots are staples of the "tactician" uniform to explain any similarities.
neither have amnesia (since i just.. don't like the trope that much + i wanted to have them remember and reflect on their upbringing y'know). robin is actually a regular, normal blooded dude (which is why i don't really depict him in an evil grima-possessed form). reflect on the other hand did have grima's blood, which tipped off the grimleal in hopes to resurrect grima. however, much like the original awakening story, reflect's mama took her away out of fear of what the grimleal would do to her in pursuit of their goals. due to circumstances that i haven't fully figured out yet, robin was left behind and was raised by daddy dearest validar. reflect was raised by her mama and unaware of the grimleal or that she even had a brother/father at all.
a fairly old but still good ref of their differences. i definitely took a lot of liberties with reflect obviously (i REALLLLY like robin's original design, main reason why i got so attached to the character, so i kept it pretty true to the original with some details i dont like redrawing sanded off). a lot of design elements developed over the years and came from various sources.
(strap thingies on the side were based on cipher art, stockings are based on heroes art of f!morgan, cloak is partially inspired by the grandmaster design (albeit heavily simplified), shorts... i just thought looked cool, blah blah)
ok enough rambling, time to ramble about them individually
Robin
if it wasn't clear by how i'd often draw robin with a tired/exhausted look on his face, he isn't exactly the most high-energy guy :p he's jaded and sometimes a bit of an asshole to people he doesn't know. pretty unapproachable generally. i hope the fact he was raised by validar would explain why. i imagine validar was particularly bitter about the grima vessel slipping out of his grasp and took some of that out on his remaining child.
his strict upbringing helped him become very proficient in tactics and magic as expected... but also a bit reclusive and not much of a people person. he'd travel around after being sick of validar's shit, which is how he crosses paths with chrom. chrom basically takes him in and lets him work as a tactician for the shepherds, which is an act that causes robin to become very attached and loyal to chrom. i'd say he's an established member for a few years before the events of awakening.
he's kind of unathletic (very skinny bastard) and probably has redditor posture (inspired by how slow of a runner he is in smash bros). magic is much more his "asset" ;) his sword game is mid if he's not wielding the levin sword.
he remains single to the end of awakening's campaign, but historians note he was "really good friends" with chrom (he is attracted to men lol. specifically chrom. but then chrom gets married which complicates things 🥴).
Reflect
in comparison to her male counterpart, she's much more free-spirited and bubbly. she's chill and great at making friends, a bit more accurate to the original. she was also raised to be a tactician, though she is comparatively still a novice. still, she's a quick and enthusiastic learner. i also imagine her to be kind of a risky thrill-seeker.
when she leaves her small community to explore the world, she comes across the burning village in awakening's first chapter, which is how she crosses paths with chrom. she joins his gang to further her learning as a tactician and to make some friends yeeaa!! (i haven't written as much about her as i make mrobin 😛)
she later marries chrom and becomes the mother of lucina.
I sometimes draw her with red hair tied in a black bow-- that's related to some non-fe fanfic stuff that is too convoluted and cringe for this already lengthy and cringe post. but it's an alternate look for her i think is kind of cute 😊
~~~
hopefully that's a sufficient enough answer, my brain always gets really scattered whenever i have to elaborate my robin hcs to someone else. i get a bit self-concious about them because i think i'm so far off-base with their original characters (but can't oc-ify them with some elements being based in the world/story of awakening) that i'll become like. public enemy of the greater robin community. but i know that's a bit ridiculous, so i let loose here as a means to get these many thoughts somewhere on my art page as a reference for when i draw these fellas in the future :)
there's also the separate tangent of their offspring, the morgans (or morgan being the girl, and marc being the boy) but this post is long enough as is so i'll just leave it there :,)
#not art#asks#fe#fire emblem#fe awakening#fire emblem awakening#robin#m!robin#f!robin#robin fire emblem#will tag the robin/fe tags for page organization since this post is a little old now#hope this doesnt fall in the wrong hands haha
Thought: As an adult, Grima cannot help but adopt children.
As a child, Grima cannot help but adopt adults. Baby Grima has turned all the adult crèche members into their parents, and is spreading their influence to outside it. There is not stopping them.
you know I can absolutely see this being the case
I can also see it being a similarly non-linear process. Grima didn't start out hanging around the kids, Fae mistook him for Robin and he decided to roll with it and it snowballed from there. Similarly, I suspect that baby Grima (who has some Understandable Issues surrounding parental figures thanks to Forneus) would get adopted by the older Grimas first, decide that oh what happened was that Forneus took me from my real parents and this must be them, cool, and from there just start expanding what 'parent' includes to be.
And it becomes like.
All dragons forever.
Duma's a dragon? Also Papa.
Mila's a dragon? Also Mama.
Medeus is a dragon? Also also Papa.
Naga's a dragon? Also also Mama (and yes everyone is going to have mixed feelings about that one).
It will never end, there is no stopping this tiny parent-hoarding dragon baby.
#answered#cheeseandcake#dragon creche#naga really does not know how to feel about this#no one else knows how to feel about it either#but nobody's getting hurt by it or anything?#so even naga just decides to roll with it#at least for now
Re: awakening shrek au. Chrom kisses Robin and they turn into a fuck off huge dragon? I’m invested if so
was spitballing with theotherseapancakes and cannibal-lesbian and it has turned into "manakete chrom and lissa" with other notable features such as
gangrel as farquaad (specifically trying to get married to make fun of aversa for getting no bitches)
owain as puss in boots (he's still a time traveler, everything just got solved by accident and now he has nothing to do)
grima as the fairy godmother
lucina as the gingerbread man (many questions to be had here)
lissa as donkey
nowi as dragon
obviously there's a lot of loose ends but it all just started when i said "grima would sing i need a hero from shrek 2".
i'm rotating the worldbuilding for this at the moment. chrom and lissa live in the swamp because Naga's Blood Shenanigans turned them into dragons so they disappeared from ylisse as to not cause trouble for Emmeryn, who would no doubt catch flack if her siblings were suddenly half dragon things. (Lissa is a fe6 divine dragon. She is a chocobo.) Chrom's main drive would then be not to get everyone out of his swamp, but to do so in order to stop his location (and continued existence) from getting leaked to emmeryn.
there are two options for owain, considering the nowi/lissa dynamic
he is a perfectly human boy (half human on his mom's side, half human on his mama's side)
he is also a manakete but appears human because there's been no perfect dramatic moment to whip out the dragonstone yet
it's also very important to me that chrom has feathers in this. he does.
tldr shrek: oops, all manaketes! edition
i am once again thinking about dire future single dad gaius
#gaius getting ultra protective of morgan after robin goes darkside is just good content.#like he’d never be an irresponsible parent imo but when robin leaves he’s just kinda like oh. i’m all this kid has now.#and just starts making an effort to be the Best dad he can possibly be under the literal zombie apocalypse circumstances#also despite [gestures at grima] everything he never lets ANYONE talk shit abt robin within earshot of morgan#bc he knows he idolizes his mama and she’s super important to him. and he’s not gonna let his happy memories of her be tainted#i am just very soft about gaius and morgan.... i love my husband and son#tactician's log#awakening#gaiusposting#gairobin#(technically)
Imagine Lucina and Morgan meeting Midori and Kana.
I have imagined this before, I am currently, and I will continue to.
Kana tagging after Lucina bombarding her with questions. "That's such an amazing sword you have! My mama has a really cool sword too! Is yours magic? My mama's is magic! My mama is the coolest! She can turn into a dragon!"
And Lucina, thinking less of the likes of Nah and Tiki and more of her mother and Grima, can only muster in reply: "Oh, that's...oh..."
They all immediately bond with each other because these two sets of siblings both consist of a mama's boy and a daddy's girl. They get each other. Lucina is a little more standoffish to the others because she's the only one of them who carries that real, painful responsibility of leadership, but she's happy enough to indulge the other two when they come to her. Kana with all those questions about everything, who will talk her ear off about his mother (reminds her of her little brother when he was smaller), and Midori who brings admiring stories about her own father to trade for Lucina's (doesn't quite realize how fraught those memories are for Lucina; and why would she? Lucina's life story is generously described as insane). Morgan is as happily chaotic as the other two want to be; do they want lessons in tactics from him? Well, they're getting them now! Also they all might've heard that the others have an evil grandfather, and they're all trying to figure out how to tactfully broach the subject. (Kana un-tactfully blurts it out eventually.)
Meanwhile, Chrom and Corrin are talking about leading their haphazard armies, about making allies out of enemies and making peace with an old opposing country; about sins of their fathers and moving past those mistakes; about the world-ending threats of ancient dragon gods and the magic swords that can slay them. A fun conversation, to be sure. Levity comes in the form of some loud crashing sounds that suggest Robin's ninja training (new tactics to learn! How could she not be excited by that prospect! How could she not ask Kaze to teach her what he knows) is going predictably poorly.
#fire emblem chatter tag#chrom and corrin are trying to have some serious conversations and then robin just falls out of a tree nearby#'lady robin' says kaze with an air of infinite patience 'i do not think you are cut out for--'#'no no i'm fine i mean i think i cracked a rib but i'm fine let's try again!'
Meetings
@iturbide, I thought I’d say thank you by making a story post for you to enjoy involving the headcanon you made for me! So, thank you x3
There was silence between the quartet walking through the gates similar to their own Askr kingdom. The only sounds were soft hoots from Feh, who was enjoying the pets the young summoner was giving her. Dawn’s red eyes gazed around the entrance of the castle. It was so similar to their own, but the air and aura were different.
“Dawn, are you okay?” Asked Sharena, when the blonde noticed how Dawn has stopped for a moment. The girl looked up and nodded her head before she rushed to catch up to the others, who patiently waited for her before continuing on.
Alfonse somehow knew what Dawn was thinking, as he gently pats her head “I know. It’s almost like home, isn’t it? There’s going to be another me in there, another Sharena, another Anna. Maybe, heroes, you summoned, but don’t worry. You can tell who is who,” he chuckled.
When he said this, Dawn looked over at the pin she made for Alfonse. It was a blue pin shaped as the Askr Emblem she made with metals that she found. Sharena has a hairpin with the same emblem, but pink and Anna had a silver pendant with the emblem. Each of the heroes back home had a hand-made trinket that Dawn made herself. Feh’s is being worked on (it’s a scarf, but Feh doesn’t know). Seeing her handy work on her friends made Dawn happy.
They made her feel so welcome. At first, Alfonse did his best to keep their relationship professional and distant, but when Veronica almost captured her and Bruno helped her escape, it all changed from there. Alfonse and Sharena became family to her. Anna was like her aunt and best friend. The heroes Dawn had summoned also became family and friends to her. Each of them made Dawn feel warm inside. Though, she wondered if it were possible for her to ask of them to teach her magic, or how to wield a bow. Possibly learn to fight with a blade or
When they entered the castle, Dawn could see the other Alfonse, Sharena, and Anna was waiting for them and happily greeted the four. The other Anna and Sharena cooed at how small and cute Dawn was, as Anna couldn’t help but grin “Yep! Our Summoner is a cutie~”
“Maybe she could be with... Nevermind, I’m sure you’re wanting to meet Kiran. They’re from your world too!” The other Anna proclaimed happily. Dawn had caught what the other Anna was trying to say but didn’t question it. She knew it must be due to her age. However, Dawn is mature enough to handle any situation. She is the summoner and tactician. The six spoke to each other about meeting their summoner, Kiran, who was in the library. It was in agreement and they all headed there. Dawn, however, did not.
She got distracted at the paintings on the wall. She was trying to find any sort of differences with the details of the paint brushes that when she turned to point one of the differences she found, the others were gone. Dawn stood there for a moment with a blank expression before it hit her that everyone was gone! Feh realized this and hooted with worry. Dawn stood there for a moment, before she nuzzled Feh, to calm down the owl, but also herself. They just needed to find where the others went! Taking a deep breath and a look of determination, Dawn set forth to find her friends
She went to the library first, but when she arrived there, no one was present. Dawn checked the meeting room but saw no one. The albino girl continued on her quest, pondering where they could have gone as she arrived near the gardens. Dawn stopped in her tracks when she heard the laughter of children near. Dawn never had a chance to play with kids her age growing up. Even when her aunt was given sole custody of her, Dawn just never had the chance to interact with anyone her age.
Feh hooted softly when she felt Dawn tense. The owl snuggled into Dawn, causing the girl to snap out of her melancholy thoughts. Dawn gently pets Feh, giving her owl companion a smile, before taking a deep breath and slowly goes to look where the kids were. It only took a few moments until Dawn arrived and saw many kids and teenagers in the garden, which surprised her. Was there some sort of party going on? She recognized one of the girls among the children. She would never forget the hair color. Tiki. Only, this Tiki was younger, and there were different child versions of Tiki. Dawn wondered if these kid Tiki’s took siestas like her?
Lucina was there along with Robin, looking over the children. She noticed two adults. Both with green hair, but the man looked very strong and battle-hardened, as the woman next to him had a peaceful and kind aura to her. They had to be siblings, especially the facial features. Dawn could see the children playing with them, including the Tikis, so the man must not be scary as he looks. Children were the best judge of character... they are innocent... Maybe they never dealt with such hardships as she did.
Dawn made sure to keep herself hidden from view, using her height to her advantage. Feh, enjoying the peaceful air had taken a nap in the process. The thirteen-year-old observed everyone playing, making flower crowns, and just enjoying this nice weather. Dawn felt this strange urge... this longing to go join... however, she felt out of place. She can’t play. Besides, she had to find the others and meet Kiran and talk about... what was the reason they came here?
Suddenly, Dawn saw them. The two Robins. At first, she thought it was another set of Male and Female Robin. However, the minute she saw their eyes... Dawn nearly took a step forward toward the male Grima. For a minute, she thought it was her Grima. Her Grima wanted to come along, but the others insisted he’d stay. It took a lot of reassurance to let her Grima know that she would be safe. Grima had always been protective of her when she summoned him. However, when Dawn didn’t see the Fell Brand pendant on him, she took a step back.
What Dawn didn’t realize was that there was a twig under her boots. There was a snap of a broken twig that caught everyone’s attention and they looked over at her direction. Dawn froze like a deer caught in headlights. Her thoughts were racing in a panic. What was she going to do? Do they know how to read sign language? She needed to get her whiteboard out. Wait, she’ll drop Feh. She was in panic mode, Dawn didn’t notice one of the kids approach her.
“HI!” screamed out a voice causing Dawn to nearly jump in the air. Red eyes met green ones, as the girl before her smiled widely. “I’m Fae! What’s your name? Oh! Oh! You have the same coat as Kiran!” Fae exclaimed with joy. Dawn held Feh a little tightly, as she wasn’t sure what to do. She couldn’t vocally answer. Fae tilted her head, surprisingly patient for a reply. Before Dawn could raise a hand, Fae leaned in closer, causing Dawn to lean back a little
Fae stared before her eyes go wide “You look like Kana’s mama! Kana! She looks like your mama!” Fae exclaimed, before grasping Dawn’s hand so suddenly, and for a child, she had strength. Dawn felt her feet off the ground as Fae was taking her in the middle of all these kids! Dawn didn’t have the chance to pull away before Fae presented her to many kids. So many voices all at once as her hood was down. At least the sun isn’t harsh today...
“She does look like my mom!” one voice exclaimed
“Wait, why does she have Feh?”
“She has Kiran’s coat! Did you make it on your own?”
“Hi, there!”
“Hello!”
“Want to play?”
Dawn was feeling overwhelmed at this point. There were too many voices calling for her attention. She had to respond. She needed to be perfect. She needed to act appropriately. She is a mature adult! Dawn shut her eyes, feeling her mind racing, but she suddenly felt herself being picked up. Looking up, she saw it was Grima. He looked down at the children but gave them a smile. It was strange seeing him smile at someone else that wasn’t her. She had to remind herself that this wasn’t her Grima. This was going to be confusing. “Children, I know you want to play with her, but it seems she needs some time. Understand?”
There was a union of “yes” from the children, who went back playing, as some said “goodbye” or “We’ll play later!” to her. Dawn was suddenly taken to a quiet spot in the garden as Grima placed her down onto a bench. She could see him stare at her for a moment. Before anything could be said a voice screamed out “DAWN!” and the next thing Dawn knew, Sharena had tackled her to the ground, hugging her tightly.
Dawn was surprised from the tackle but carefully pats Sharena on her head. The blonde let out a sigh of relief but nearly jumped when she saw Grima “Grima?! When did you get here? Did you follow us?”
Grima stared at Sharena before Dawn quickly began to hand sign ‘That’s not our Grima’
“Oh! Sorry!” Sharena apologized, looking at Grima sheepishly, before gently grasping Dawn’s hand “Anyway! Let’s go meet with the others. Alfonse and Anna got worried,” Sharena then began to lead Dawn into the castle with Feh gently landing on the albino’s head. However, she was suddenly taken out of Sharena’s grasp by being picked up. Dawn looked up at Grima.
“I shall come with you. I have some questions”
“ABSOLUTELY NOT!” Grima yelled angerly. Dawn could see the dust coming from the ceiling. Yep. Grima isn’t happy about the news that she is a summoner and they came over for training for a week with Kiran, along with possible fights, knowing Veronica’s track record.
Anna sighed at this “Look, when I summoned Dawn, I didn’t expect her. I expected an adult. There is nothing we can do. Breidablik chose her, and Dawn is a fine tactician to the army.”
“So you decided it was an ingenious idea to send a child to fight your battles?” Grima growled out.
Kiran rested a hand on Grima’s shoulder to calm him down. “Dawn isn’t here to fight. There is no way she’s going to an actual battlefield while they’re visiting. Promise,” Kiran assured. Grima looked at Kiran after he finished glaring at Anna before nodding.
Anna let out a shaky sigh before crossing her arms. “She can still do the training tower, so that shouldn’t be an issue.”
“Then I and my female counterpart will accompany her,”
“Is that really necessary? I mean, the training tower is safe, right?” Sharena asked.
The other Sharna shrugged “We can’t argue with Grima. He makes it clear that no child that Kiran summons will ever set foot in the battlefield.”
Dawn looked alarmed at this before she pulled out her whiteboard from her messenger back and quickly wrote before holding out the whiteboard for everyone to read in her handwriting ‘What do you mean summon kids?!’
”Oh... well, there are heroes that are around your age. Some younger, and some older...” Alfonse explained.
This made Dawn tense at this for a moment, before she suddenly erased her board, and began to scribble profusely on the board. When she finished, she shows them her message. ‘I am not sending any kid into the battlefield. Never, ever!’
“Dawn, aren’t you a kid yourself?” the other Alfonse teased.
The albino had a blush form on her face and scribbled again ‘That’s different. I am a mature adult’
Everyone stared at the message before they all busted out laughing. Dawn simply stared at them, trying her best to not pout.
The few days were eventful. Veronica had shown up and closed their pathway home. Of course, Dawn ended up in the actual battlefield, but not once did the Grimas ever leave her side. While they were impressed with her tactics, they decided themselves that Dawn wasn’t going to be part of any fighting as long as she and the others stayed. Her Alfonse, Sharena, and Anna went with Kiran and the others to find a pathway to home. However, it was decided that Dawn would stay behind.
Dawn protested at this decision. She pleaded that she could be of use, that she was able to help. Yet, her thoughts were screaming something else entirely.
Please don’t leave me behind! I swear I’m good! I swear, I’m perfect! I’m sorry! I’m not bad!
Alfonse reassured her that she would be much safer here. Kiran insisted Dawn remained behind. The older summoner didn’t want her hurt, they explained, but they also noticed how Veronica had suddenly looked at Dawn with interest. The kind of interest that spelled disaster.
Sharena knew what was wrong. “Don’t worry, Dawn. We’ll come back for you. We just need to find a way home,” and with those parting words, they were gone.
Dawn clung onto Feh the entire time. For the first three days, Dawn rarely left the guest room, unless it was to get something to eat or to sneak a book. The Grimas checked on her repeatedly, slowly trying to coax her out of the room, but to no avail. However, they did not push but told Dawn where they would be if she wished to join the creche. She was unsure of what to do. It wasn’t... home. For all she knew, the heroes here would undoubtedly hate her guts. They would ignore her. They hate her. It didn’t help that nightmares were making their appearance that Dawn barely had any sleep.
It was at day three things changed. Dawn was getting hungry again. She grabbed Feh as the owl hooted gently to her as Dawn placed the owl in her hood. The albino girl went down the hall near the ballroom when she heard the laughter of the kids again. Dawn peeked through the door and saw the kids in the room, playing and having fun. The albino watched for a moment before she started to walk away when a ball had hit her ankle.
Dawn stopped and looked down at the ball and picked it up, staring at its red color.
“Dawn! Are you here to play?” The small Tiki asked, stepping out of the room. The white-haired girl stared at the young Tiki before looking at the ball. She wasn’t sure how to even answer. How was she even able to play? Why was she so useless? Why was she this pathetic? Why is she not perfect?! “Dawn... are you okay?” Tiki asked, causing Dawn to snap out of her thoughts.
The albino girl stared at Tiki with such a blank and emotionless gaze, Tiki looked worried. Suddenly, Tiki turned around and rushed back in the room “Grima! Grima! Something is bothering Dawn!” Tiki called out, causing Dawn to tense. No, she was being bad again! She dropped the ball and ran. Dawn was running as fast as her feet could take her. She needed to hide. She had to hide.
The girl rushed into the library and her eyes quickly spotted a table to hide in. Wait, no! That’s so stupid, the table is the first thing anyone would look under. She ran into the aisles of the library, before spotting a dark corner of the podium and quickly hid there. She was huddled in a corner, rocking herself and doing her best to breath calmly.
Feh flew out and hooted at her, getting the albino’s attention. Dawn stared at the owl for a moment, before she hugged her companion, as tears were forming in her eyes. She was supposed to be an adult. Adults don’t cry. Dawn was suddenly wrapped in a hug. The girl tensed for a moment, as Grima spoke “It’s alright, little one. I’m here. It’s okay now...”
Dawn remembered those words spoken to her. How long ago was it? When her aunt said those same exact words? Hugging her like this? The girl sat there, before she suddenly clung onto Grima, tears spilling out of her eyes as soundless sobs escaped her. Grima only hugged her, rubbing the child’s back. It wasn’t until Dawn had fallen asleep, that Grima decided he wasn’t going to allow her to be by herself if she reacted in such a way.
After that incident, Dawn wasn’t allowed to be alone anymore. Wherever she went one of the Grimas followed her. She was still shy around the children. However, they were making an effort to make Dawn comfortable. Fae even got a book and read to Dawn, which made the albino smile. Slowly, slowly but surely, Dawn started to open up to the creche. Dawn was honest with them. She wrote that she never had a chance to play with kids growing up.
The children began to teach Dawn all the games they played. Tag, Catch, Hide and Seek. Dawn played the games, smiling and having fun. The caretakers took quite a liking to her as well. With the Robins, they were impressed by how she was able to make tactics at the top of her head. They made it a game with her so she could improve, but also have fun. Mila loved the flowers that Dawn showed her on her cellphone, as the divine dragon created some of the flowers as practice. The children were obviously happy.
Duma could see how hard Dawn was trying to be strong. He could tell she has gone through many hardships. What kind, he did not know. However, with how small and young she is, facing the battle in her realm of Askr, he could see she was going to become a great warrior, but... he hoped Mila’s teaching of kindness will remain in her. Dawn had the caretakers read the Harry Potter series to the children, and they all loved the tale of the boy wizard with a heavy destiny before him. Though, Dawn could see they didn’t look happy during the parts with the Dursleys or Snape.
The nightmares were appearing less. When Dawn did wake up from one of them, one of the Grimas would instantly be by her side, gently hugging her and soothing her back to sleep. It felt strange... it was like being back with her aunt. Her Aunt Rose would make her feel like this. Slowly, Dawn was making sweets for everyone, though she had to ask permission before dooming the adults with sugar-high children.
Yet, despite all the happy times... there was some darkness that Dawn herself didn’t realize.
While the creche was playing, Dawn was with Tiki. Tiki was watching as Dawn was making one of her jewelry by hand. That was when a shadow loomed over them. The two girls looked up to see a woman with green hair such as Tiki’s but with this strange glow to her. Something about this woman... made Dawn uneasy, especially seeing the look on Tiki’s face. “M-Mother? What are you doing here?” Tiki asked shakily.
The woman gave a soft smile, “Come, Tiki. We’re going now.”
“I don’t want to...” Tiki muttered, barely a whisper.
“Now, Tiki. I know best,” The woman then reached out to grab Tiki. However, she wasn’t able to get her. Dawn had suddenly stood up and pushed the woman’s hand away as she stood firmly between her and Tiki. The woman barely had time to register before she could see the barrel of Breidablik was pointing at her face. Her eyes landed on Dawn, as the albino girl had her blank and emotionless expression on her face. The one she wears for battle or when she tries so hard to bottle up her emotions.
Dawn wasn’t going to give this woman any satisfaction of her emotions.
“... Child, lower your weapon. Such hostilities are not necessary.”
“NAGA!” Duma yelled as he approached. Tiki quickly ran to Duma, hiding behind him.
Naga cooly looked at him “Duma. I see you have tainted this child here.”
“I did no such thing. She sees you as a threat,” he answered.
Dawn never lowered Breidablik, as her screens began to appear around her. Suddenly, two hands gently grasped hers. “Dawn, lower the weapon. We’re here,” the female Grima whispered soothingly. Dawn looked at the Grimas before the screens vanished and Dawn lowered the weapon.
"... I see now. Forgive me, Duma. I now know who is tainting this child,” Naga said, looking at the Grimas before she smiled at Dawn gently, but the girl knew. That smile was fake. It wasn’t genuine. “Dawn, was it? I am Naga, the divine dragon.”
“Don’t speak to her, and do not look at her,” The male Grima said, as he placed Dawn behind him, as the female Grima picked her up, keeping the young summoner close to her.
Naga frowned “She is not our summoner, but from how things are looking, it seems you plan to keep her and corrupt her, is that it?”
The female Grima laughed coldly “Oh, Naga. You make up such wild stories. How about you leave. Your presence is unwanted,”
Dawn could see Naga look at the adults before sighing “Very well, I shall take my leave. However, I will be speaking with Dawn and Tiki.” with that, the woman left.
Tiki peeked out, before rushing to Dawn as Grima placed her down. “Dawn! Are you okay? You didn’t have to-” she stopped speaking when Dawn hugged the girl tightly. Dawn was trembling a little, but she had to make sure Tiki was safe and sound. That woman... Naga... reminded Dawn so much of... her.
“Come on, children, let’s go back playing,” Mila suggested, leading the two back to the creche. Yet, Dawn could see Duma and the Grimas staring where Naga had left. She knew something was happening.
Naga was exactly like Mother Gothel. Dawn had seen how hard this divine dragon had tried to get close to her and Tiki, but the Duma and the Grimas were there to protect them. Dawn wasn’t allowed to be anywhere by herself. When Naga tried to speak to her, the Grimas would intervene, explaining that her Alfonse and Sharena did not want Naga to speak to her. Naga knew it was a lie.
They had sent word, yes, but not about Naga. They were close to finding a way back to their Askr but asked Dawn to wait patiently. Dawn hoped it would be soon. Naga was making her uncomfortable. However, she wished to stay longer with the creche. They were giving her something she had not felt for so long. Fun. A childhood she deserved.
One day, Naga caught her alone. She was in the library when Naga appeared. “Little Dawn, please let me speak my peace?”
Dawn had her stoic expression but nodded. She wanted to know why this woman wanted to speak to her so badly. Feh had flown off to get help.
Naga sighed with relief “Thank the gods that you have not yet fallen, dear Dawn. Please, listen to my tale,”
The albino had to listen to how Grima was a product of evil and perversion, how Duma was blood-thirsty and Mila so naive. How Tiki needed to sleep to prevent turning wild or hurting everyone around her. Dawn stood there as Naga even offered to heal whatever is causing her to not speak and cleanse her. Dawn stood there for a few moments as she spoke about the poor children in the creche being corrupted, and the final thing she said “I know best, Dear Dawn, now come.. I will take proper care of you.”
Dawn then had a screen appear, as she quickly typed in caps as she had Siri speak for her. ‘YOU ARE A HORRIBLE LIAR. IF YOU REALLY CARED, YOU WOULD HAVE CHECKED ON ME WHEN I ISOLATED MYSELF FOR DAYS. IF YOU CARED ABOUT TIKI, YOU WOULD FIGURE OUT ANOTHER WAY TO HELP HER INSTEAD OF PUTTING HER TO SLEEP. SERIOUSLY, SLEEP FOREVER? WHAT KIND OF A MOTHER ARE YOU?! GRIMA HAS EVERY RIGHT TO HATE HUMANITY FOR WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM. MY GRIMA NEVER TOLD ME WHAT HAPPENED, BUT I’M SURE WE DID SOMETHING TO MAKE HIM HATE US. DUMA HAD HIS REASONS TOO, I’M SURE, AND MILA IS THE BEST SISTER. ALSO, DON’T YOU DARE SPEAK ABOUT THE CRECHE. THEY ARE FAMILY. THEY ARE MY FAMILY, EVEN IF I’M ONLY VISITING. THE FACT GRIMA CREATED THE CRECHE MEANS HE IS A BETTER DRAGON THAN YOU. WHEN YOU GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR BUTT AND CHECK YOUR PRIORITIES, THEN WE CAN TALK. UNTIL THEN, PLEASE RESPECT THE FACT THAT I DO NOT WISH TO SPEAK TO YOU WITHOUT AN ADULT PRESENT. THANK YOU!’
Dawn turned off the screen and her phone, as Naga stood there dumbfounded while grabbing her book and leaving. However, when she opened the door, Grima was standing there. Dawn was picked up as Grima smirked at Naga and left to head back to the Creche. Needless to say, everyone heard what Dawn did, and the girl was bombarded by hugs. The albino didn’t understand, but she simply accepted the hugs.
It was even cute when they all attempted to make her a cake. One day, the adults saw Dawn initiating a game of tag, the girl running around this the other children, smiling and having fun. It wouldn’t be long until she would go back to her own Askr, but until then, she would remain with the creche. For once, enjoying her time being what she is. A child.
With a family like this, how could she ever be bored?
Also on AO3!!!
Robin dropped the quill she was using onto her desk and leaned back in her chair, groaning as she stretched. She rolled her wrist in its socket as she breathed out and grimaced at the stack of papers she still had to look over and sign.
Just a few more and then she can call it a day.
She wondered how on earth Emmeryn dealt with this much work. Despite her grievances, Robin picked up her quill again and began to look over another proposition. In her two year absence after defeating Grima, her work had piled up, but she would gladly do the mind numbing task of paperwork if it mean future generations would never have to deal with Grima ever again.
After sealing the parchment in an envelope and stamping her personal wax seal of the Queen of Ylisse on it, she set it aside and began to reach for another, but a yell made her stop and jerk her head up in alarm.
Another familiar high pitched scream followed and she stood quickly, not caring that her seat fell too the ground. That scream came again and her heart nearly jumped out of her chest when she realized who it was.
"Oh gods... Lucina!"
Bolting from her office she followed the scream from where it came, an arcfire tome in hand, ready to burn the person who dare lay a hand on her daughter to a crisp-
"Ahhhhh! Back you monster!"
Robin burst into the courtyard, ready to start chanting the spell, but abruptly stopped in disbelief. Lucina, now at five years old, stood brandishing a stick at Chrom, who had a giggling Morgan secured under his left arm. Chrom began to chase her, roaring as Lucina shrieked, giggles falling through.
Robin stood in surprise, the arcfire tome still opened in her hands as she watched the scene play out in shock. "Wha- Chrom?"
The trio took notice of her, and still playing along, Chrom went to her side and gently grabbed her wrist, holding it up so Lucina could see.
"Hahaha! Not only have I captured the Prince, I have also captured the queen! Now the kingdom will fall without her!" He said in possibly the worst fake villain voice Robin has ever heard.
"He got mama!" Morgan shrieked helpfully from Chrom's arms. "Save us Luci!"
Lucina gasped dramatically. "Unhand my mother and brother you fiend!"
"Never! You cannot stop me! I am to powerful!" Chrom laughed still holding on to her wrist as Morgan laughed.
Finally feeling her heart slow and her confusion disipatate, Robin smirked and let her tome fall harmlessly to the ground.
"Oh, save us princess! Im afraid my magic wasn't strong enough!" She cried in her best damsel in distress voice and placing a hand on her forehead.
"No one can save you now!" Chrom said, gently shaking Morgan, keeping his grip strong around the small boy.
"Do not worry mother! I shall save you! For I have the power of Naga on my side and she shall bless my weapon!" Lucina cried, brandishing her stick upwards to the sky. After a few quick seconds, she rushed at Chrom with a cute yell, stick at the ready.
"What! You're more powerful than before! How is this possible?!" Chrom cried as Lucina beat her stick against his legs. He lowered himself onto his knees, releasing Robin's wrist and Morgan. "How was I defeated by you?!"
Lucina poked her father in the chest with her 'blessed weapon' and Chrom, quite dramatically, falls onto his back, seemingly to have died to the final blow.
"I have slain the monster!" Lucina cried, raising her stick in victory. "I have saved you and Morgan, mother!"
"That you did brave knight! And a brave knight such as yourself deserves a reward!" Robin said as she crouched down, a smile playing on her lips. Lucina grinned broadly as her mother kissed her cheek.
"I was brave too!" Morgan said, tugging at her coat sleeve.
"Of course you we're! You were a brave Prince and someone as brave as you deserves a reward as well!" Robin said, gathering her children in her arms and peppering their faces with kisses, making them squeal with delight.
"And don't I deserve a reward as well?" Chrom asked, sitting up.
"Monsters who kidnap princes and queens do not deserve a reward." Robin retorted, a sly smile on her face.
“Yeah!” Morgan and Lucina cried, agreeing with her.
“What’s this? Being ganged up on by own family?” He said, crossing his arms.
Robin rolled her eyes and leaned forward, kissing his cheek as well. “There. Are you happy now?”
“Not quite, my love.” Robin narrowed her eyes at the mischievous smile on her husbands face. She then yelped in surprise when Chrom pulled her close to him, his chest shaking with laughter.
“Chrom!” Robin said, the blush on her face standing out against her pale skin. “L-let go! I still have work to do!”
“It can wait!” Chrom said. “You’ve been holed up in your office for a few hours now, you deserve a bit of time to relax.”
Robin sighed. Honestly, sometimes it felt like she was raising three children instead of two. But, his grin was infectious as Lucina and Morgan tackled their parents, the force of it sending the four of them to the ground, all giggling and smiling widely.
But It was nice. Robin could feel the tension melt away under the warm sunlight and practically being smothered by her family’s cheeriness. Lucina’s blue hair tickled her nose as she drew closer and Chrom’s loud laughter echoing through the courtyard.
That was how Frederick would find the royal family just a few minutes later. Rolling around in the ground with pieces of grass stuck in their hair, and while Robin knew the inevitable lecture was going to come from the dutiful knight, she found she didn’t really care. All that mattered was the happiness she felt at being with her family. No war, no Grima hovering over their shoulders, just peacefulness and her children getting the childhood their future counterparts didn’t get to have.
And Robin wouldn’t have it any other way.
and that’s it!!! hope it was good
Headcanons about Post FE:A:
-Robin's reappearance after her sacrifice occurred on one of the very few trips Chrom and Lissa took together that wasn't specifically aimed at looking for her. In truth, Lissa had been feeling a bit stressed with baby Owain and her inability to properly perform the task she elected to fulfill after Grima: Ylisse's most cheerful and beloved ambassador. Chrom had noticed his sister's stress and arranged for a Maribelle to assist Vaike for a few days while he took Lissa to work her magic on an extremely minor issue about a day's journey from Ylisstol. Chrom had quite literally spotted the familiar coat lying in a field on their way back home by accident, but it was arguably the second happiest accident in Chrom's life (the first being finding her in the first place)
-They were accompanied by trainee guardsmen who had no idea who she was and were very distressed and confused when the Exalt and Princess curled themselves around some woman they found in a field and started sobbing.
-They spent enough time crying and catching up that they didn't return to the castle until night had fallen and dinner was long over. Lissa had begged them to hold off on their "private reunion" for a night and curled up in their bed with them, and so no one knew they'd found Robin.
-Frederick was the first to find out, grouchily stomping into the bedroom to ask why Lissa hadn't returned home (he had gotten his ear nagged off by Maribelle and was feeling a little like payback). He was not expecting to find Lissa curled up in bed with Chrom and was sure as hell not expecting Robin to be sitting up in bed next to them reading a book. There may have been a lot of crying and very very quiet hugging but Chrom and Lissa wouldn't know cuz they were still dead to the world.
-The mission for the next day was to introduce Robin to little three year old Lucina again. Lissa had gone back home, so Chrom fully expected at least Maribelle, Vaike and Sully to be barging in at any time, but Lissa had promised them a good two hours before that would likely happen. Robin requested to speak with Luci alone, which Chrom very begrudgingly granted her, though he definitely sat outside the door sulking and listening intently. Robin's approach was to introduce herself by name, not as her mother, and see where that went. After being told that Robin was a dear friend of Daddy's who had been gone for a long time, Luci eventually drew the connection between that story and the story Daddy told her about where her Mama had been. Robin had been so utterly terrified that Lucina wouldn't accept her as her mother, so when they little girl called her Mama and asked for a hug, the relief was immense.
-Lissa, Vaike, Maribelle, Sully, Frederick and Stahl had indeed come charging in, only to join in on the pile of happy crying people that was the Exalt family on the floor in Lucina's playroom.
-Chrom and Robin brought Lucina to bed with them that night, content to hold each other and whisper stories until they fell asleep.
-They were woken really really early (around 5am) by two more bodies crawling into bed with them. Robin didn't have enough arms to hold both Lucinas, Morgan AND Chrom but they made it work. Chrom and Robin didn't even think to want any "adult alone time" for at least a week because it was so nice to sleep with all their babies near them.
I just want baby Grima to be happy... so badly... Would the baby wonder if they could transform like Fae and the others? But Mama and Papa Grima don't transform, so maybe at some point they just *poof* get a second body? XD Is it weird to have a second body?
Ooh, what would Emmeryn and Chrom think of baby Grima? (Also what size are we imaging here? They uuh, have a HUGE variety of sizes... )
The baby would probably figure out pretty quickly that the other dragons can transform because of their dragonstones, honestly. Baby!Grima would be absolutely fascinated by the pretty rocks and how they glow and turn other dragons from one shape into another. And while Mama Grima and Papa Grima don't have stones, they also don't change from one form to another -- the big dragon is always around at the same time the person is around, so they just have different rules to go by.
(The baby absolutely would start grabbing every rock they see in case that happens to be a dragonstone they can use; no such luck, sadly.)
Chrom and Emmeryn both would probably be a lot more chill with the baby than Lucina, honestly. Chrom has gotten really used to Grima because he and Robin went out on the battlefield with him all the time (and while he has ceded his place on some teams to Fallen F!Morgan, Chrom considers it an honor that Grima's placed his trust in them to look after his daugher in combat). Emm, meanwhile, with her earnest interest in building bridges, was already making inroads with the older Grimas -- and how could she not embrace a baby?
(Size-wise, I usually picture the baby as roughly cat-sized, to the point that Kiran can wander around with a dragon draped across their shoulders.)
A Memory That’ll Last
For Chrobinweek2017, Day 3: Halloween and Day 5: Ylisse and Plegia
After Validar's demise as well as any trace of Grima's curse throughout the land, a new era for the grimleal was born: They had to reshape their entire religion now that the Fell Dragon's grip on their minds and bloodlines was no more -- they were finally free.
Plegia, however, was a theocracy, and relied heavily on the church to elect their rulers. Without a solid foundation for themselves, the still-crawling newly reformed church of the Free People had no infrastructure to rule a country.
It being the homeland of his other half, Chrom decided not to annex the land itself, but to temporarily rule over it until they could walk by themselves -- that remained until this day, four years later.
A young toddler cried in the middle of the day, missing his mother. "Ma-ma! Mama!" Morgan sobbed by his father's chest. After Robin came back and took over her queenly duties, she took it upon herself to oversee Plegia's reconstruction -- which meant that, more often than not, she would have to make lengthy expeditions to the sandy country so as to inspect in person.
That was one of those times. "Shhh, Morgan, Daddy's here." Chrom cooed the small boy, slowly bouncing him up and down on his arms, patting the tiny back.
"B-bud Baba...!" The boy cried, his nose so clogged the words leaving his mouth barely made sense.
Chrom took his handkerchief to dry his son's face, urging him to blow his nose after he was done. "I know, Morgan, I also miss her terribly." He whispered, once again hugging the boy and patting the small blue-haired head, his voice soothing with a hint of longing.
He still felt the cold hand of fear creeping through his heart whenever Robin wasn't beside him when he woke up during the night, even if he received news from her every two days.
"Buh..." Morgan cooed, drooling Chrom's shoulder as he gripped at the robe his father was leaning against. "Mama... here."
"Hm?" Chrom raised his neck so as to check what caught Morgan's interest so intently and-- "Ah, of course. Her tactician coat." The Exalt turned to the sofa he was leaning, onto which the robe was on, caressing it with a warm smile. "So many memories imbued onto it."
The day they first met; the first skirmish they fought together; the day he caught her bathing and saw her picking it up to cover herself... the day he proposed. Of course, not every memory they had together could be considered happy ones, but just the time they spent together meant so much more to him, to her... to their children.
Then, an idea dawned on him. "Oh! Morgan, what do you think of having one of those for yourself?" The Exalt beamed, his smile the brightest since Robin left to Plegia.
The toddler tilted his head to the side and had to look from his father to the coat. "Morgan... like Mama?" He pointed from cloth to man, then to himself.
"Yes!" Chrom got up and took a step back from the couch, allowing Morgan to see the coat in its entirety -- it was old and beaten up, but it was his mother’s and it also could be his? How? Feeling the boy bounce on his arm, Chrom nuzzled him, "Daddy will make one for you, my boy! Let's dress you up like your Mama!"
Morgan giggled, then laughed, the high-pitched baby laugh every parent loves to hear and kicked his legs in excitement. "Now? Where!" He asked, grappling his father.
Chrom laughed more, walking to the bed and sitting on it. "Ahaha, I'll try my best to deliver it soon, Morgan, but not now. Do you want to watch as Daddy sews it? I'll start tomorrow during every break I can."
The boy's eyes shone and he nodded vehemently. 'Tomorrow' couldn't come sooner, whenever that was!
Needless to say, Chrom was never good at any work that required patience and good hand-to-eye sync. He didn't want to ask for help since he was the one who came up with the idea (besides, he really did not want to show anyone the atrocity he was doing to the likeness of Robin's coat), but his close aides as well as his sister and daughters noticed the bandages around his fingers increasing with the passing of the days.
"Aha, I gotcha!" Lissa jumped out of a corner in front of her brother one day. "You won't run away this time, Brother! Tell me what're you doing that's hurting you so much! It's GOTTA be something serious." Or super funny, she giggled to herself, a sly smile over her lips.
Chrom felt the tip of his ears redden and raised his chin. "Lissa, for the last time, I am not doing anything. Now, please, I'm busy." He turned on his heel and left, almost running.
The princess clicked her tongue. "Sheesh, where IS he keeping whatever he's doing, anyway? I looked all over his room and nothing, nothing!"
Panting, the Exalt hid inside his sons' room (Morgan liked to share it with Young Morgs whenever he came back from his travels) and closed the door. "Ugh, Lissa's as sharp as ever." He locked the door and turned to the crib where Young Morgan was taking his afternoon nap. "You won't tell her, will you, Morgan?" The Exalt laughed, promptly taking his failure of a project out of one of drawers of the young prince's dresser and going back to work.
Robin was bound to return in three days -- he had to finish it in time to surprise her, be it by making her laugh or to make a new memory.
The first fitting was only a few hours before Robin's scouts reported back, and Morgan started crying of joy. "Mama here!" He sobbed, rubbing his face on Chrom's shoulder.
The Exalt felt his own eyes burn with tears. Look at how happy the boy is, despite his own utter failure in sewing -- it only looked like a crooked crow stitched over a deep purple cloth that was somehow shaped like a coat.
"I'll go fetch Mama, hm? Want to come with Daddy?" He whispered, adjusting the toddler on one of his arms, using his free hand to dry his eyes before he left the room, forgetting Morgan was still wearing the coat.
"Mhm!" The boy replied, lifting both arms. A small tearing sound came from it, but Chrom was too afraid to look, so he just pretended he didn't hear it as he ran towards the front gates. "Like Mama!" Morgan yelled. "Mama!" He bounced as he recognized his mother from the crowd, wearing a spare tactician coat she had.
That made the boy's eyes well up with tears once more. He had the best Papa and Mama in the whole wide world!
The Goddess’ Child
Hey! This was a short thing I wrote for the Kith and Kin zine! It's technically a spinoff of my fic Rude Awakening but due to the nature of zines is it's own self-contained thing.
Also! The lovely Mythicat did some wonderful art to go with this! Go check it out!
The Goddess' Child
Naga sat atop her altar.
It was always quiet there. Serene, silent, peaceful.
...But also boring.
She wished she could stretch her wings. But it was too much of a risk. The deadly disease that claimed all dragons who were dragons too long would take her. She couldn't let that happen. She was a god.
Then she heard the pitter patter of little feet and her mood brightened.
"Ma-ma! Ma-ma!"
A little green-haired girl rushed in, jumping up and embracing Naga with a hug. Naga embraced her back.
"Tiki! How are you?"
"I'm having fun ma-ma! The other dragons played games with me!"
"That's great, dear."
"But..."
Tiki shifted a bit.
"What is it, sweetie?" said Naga.
Tiki pouted. "You said I couldn't play with some of the other dragons... Because they're sick... It's not fair."
Naga gave a worried frown. "Tiki... I... I don't want you to get sick too. That's why we look like humans."
"I know! But... But why can't we help them? The sick dragons?" Tiki jumped up and down.
Naga shook her head. "I... We don't know how to help them, Tiki. The Divine Dragons like me have tried."
Niki's head drooped. "It's not fair..."
Naga nodded. "I know. I know. I wish it was fair too."
Tiki sighed and sulked off. Naga gazed forlornly after her.
She tried not to think about the plague. But it was always creeping ever closer.
--------------
"She did WHAT?" Naga's mouth gaped open in shock.
"She - she - she tried to help one of the sick dragons. She was in human form, but there is still a possibility she got infected," said the other manakete to Naga.
Naga sputtered. "This... no... Is there any way we can stop it?"
The old Manakete put a hand to his chin. "It's possible since she was exposed as a human that putting her in periods of prolonged stasis will prevent the plauge from taking hold."
Naga's eyes narrowed. "So she needs... to sleep."
"Yes. She does."
Naga's face grew grave. "Then... Then I have no choice, Bantu. I must use the spell."
Bantu gave her a look of worry. "What will you tell her?"
Naga's face fell further.
"I... I don't know."
--------------
Tiki gave Naga a look of despair. "Ma-ma, but why?"
Naga shook her head. "We have no choice. The plague will take hold otherwise."
Tiki's face grew grave. "I can't sleep for that long, mama... I can't play with my friends then..."
Naga tried to stay calm. "Your friends could get infected too..."
Tiki tried to perk herself up. "I... I'll be okay! They'll be okay!"
Naga shook her head. "Tiki, please... It's for the better..." Tiki's expression grew grave again. "But... But..."
"Tiki... I'm sorry... It's the only way... for you to not... not..." Naga started faltering.
Tiki stopped, thought a bit, then nodded.
"...I... I'll do it."
Naga sighed. "Very well. Close your eyes..."
Tiki did. She grew sluggish, weary. Then curled up on the floor and fell asleep.
---------------
Naga was tending to plants when Tiki visited her again.
"Ma-ma! Ma-ma! I met the coolest person!" Tiki jumped up and down.
Naga tilted her head. "Oh? Who was it, Tiki?"
Tiki grinned. "His name is Mar-Mar! He's got blue hair and a sword and a cape and he helps people and he fights bad guys and he's great!" Naga nodded. "Ah... Him..."
Tiki tilted her head. "You know Mar-Mar?"
Naga nodded. "Yes.... He has an important destiny."
Tiki pouted. "You know too much."
Naga scrunched up her face. "What do you mean?"
Tiki waved her hands around. "You always go on about prophecies and destinies and stuff. God things."
Naga chuckled. "It's my job after all."
Tiki pumped up her fists. "Well then, tell me Mar-mar's destiny! I wanna know!"
Naga gave a mischievous look. "You know I can't."
Tiki pouted again. "No fair."
Naga gave a wave of her hand. "Well, you should go and see him then. Find out his destiny for yourself."
Tiki perked up. "Oh! Oh! I can do that! Thanks Ma-ma!"
And Tiki ran off. Naga smiled.
"I am glad... you have a friend..."
---------------
It was raining. Even Naga's astral hideout needed rain.
Naga was sitting with her eyes closed, letting it wash over her when she heard a noise. It was a sniffling, and footsteps. Very familiar ones.
She opened her eyes to see Tiki, standing there, her head bowed, tears dripping down her cheeks. Naga's concern grew immensely.
"Tiki... what's wrong?"
"Mar mar... He's... gone..."
"Oh... Oh, dear, I understand..."
Tiki threw herself into Naga's arms and sobbed as Naga embraced her.
----------------
Tiki scoffed. "Ugh, mom, you don't understand."
Naga sighed. "Tiki please."
Tiki had grown older, and taller, and decidedly more rebellious. She was looking at Naga with a sneer.
"You're so... cringe, mom," she said with a dismissive wave of her hand.
Naga raised an eyebrow. "And what does that even mean?"
Tiki rolled her eyes. "Like you're lame and I personally don't like you. That's enough."
Naga chuckled. "That's awfully petty."
"But you're so... traditional. With the whole deity business. You're taking advantage of all those people. You aren't even my real mom anymore. Just a reincarnation."
Naga frowned. "Tiki, this is all just part of my jo-" Tiki stomped a foot. "You also used that like, sleeping spell on me. I never get to experience like, anything before I fall asleep, wake up, and it's all gone. So that's like, even worse."
Naga's expression grew grave. "Tiki I- "
Tiki groaned. "Ugh. You're the worst."
Tiki stormed off. Naga sighed, sat down, and was quiet for a bit.
------------
A now adult Tiki greeted Naga again.
"Mother! Mother!"
Naga pereked up. "Oh, Tiki! What is it!"
Tikii grinned. "I've joined up with these wonderful people... They're called the Shepherds! They have your exalts among them!"
"Is that so?" Naga said with a smirk.
Tiki rolled her eyes. "Yes. You knew didn't you."
Naga chuckled. "It's my job to know these things."
Tiki sighed and shook her head, "Oh, Mother."
She hesitated a bit before continuing.
"Their tactician. Robin. He's fascinating for some reason."
Naga froze.
"Him... I don't know what it is, but something is ominous about him. Be wary."
"I thought it was your job to know," said Tiki teasingly.
Naga shook her head. "Sometimes I do... Sometimes I just have a hunch."
Tiki laughed. "Don't worry, mother. I think I can handle him."
She skipped off. Naga wrung her hands.
-------------
Tiki balked. "What do you mean I need to leave the Shepherds?"
Naga shook her head. "Things are getting too dangerous. He is getting involved."
Tiki scowled. "I'm not a child anymore, I can handle the danger!"
Naga clasped her hands together. "Please, Tiki, stay safe..."
Tiki pointed an accusatory finger. "You've always tried to hold me back mother, always!"
"Tiki, I-"
Tiki waved her hands wildly. "Thousands and thousands of years of the same damn things and you know what? I'm sick of it!"
"Tiki plea-"
Tears were streaming down Tiki's face. "I hate you mother! I hate you so much!"
She stormed off. Tiki slumped to the earth in shame.
------------
The rain had come again. Pouring over Naga as she sat alone.
It was almost a welcome change since the skies had darkened from Grima's second coming. The Risen everywhere did not like the rain. They sought shelter, giving the remaining survivors a chance.
Not that Tiki was among them.
She had been claimed. Grima tore her asunder with his own jaws. She was gone.
In all the untold millennia and reincarnations Naga had rarely been allowed to cry. But now she did, her sobs echoing as her tears were washed away by the rain.
------------
It was bright and sunny in Naga's domain. She breathed a sigh of relif, as if a great weight had been lifted off her shoulders.
As it pretty much was. Grima was gone. The Shepherds had dealt with him, with her help.
It was then Tiki approached.
"Mother... I'm sorry. You were right."
Naga sighed. "I forgive you, my dear. And in the end things worked out."
Tiki nodded. "Yes... Grima is gone. The Shepherds are safe The Robin we know did not succumb."
Naga nodded back. "And I in turn must apologize."
Tiki tilted her head. "For what?"
Naga hung her head. "Everything. Especially the sleeping spell."
Tiki sighed. "Mother... I understand. I am glad you apologized but I know why you did what you did."
Naga smiled. "Thank you."
Tiki grew pensive. "And perhaps without it... My mind would have succumbed to the disease. I would have never met all those people like Mar-Mar and Robin and all the others..."
She yawned.
"Though... I could use a nap right now..."
Nagga beckoned. "Come... Rest on my shoulder."
Tiki smiled. "I think I will."
Tiki sat down and rested her head on her mother's shoulder. Naga leaned in and did the same.
They stayed that way for a good long while.
