When I left the skating rink I felt sort of hungry, so I went in this drugstore and had a Swiss cheese sandwich and a malted, and then I went in a phone booth.

Stella's Return to Doo Wop Diner
Doo Wop Diner on the Wildwood boardwalk rearranged its layout since the last time we took photos there. I haven’t been here in a while, so I stopped in for a malt, and to see the new layout. These photos were taken at Doo Wop Diner, on the WIldwood boardwalk between Spencer and Youngs Avenues, on Friday, September 22nd, 1967. (…Or, was that 2023?) Here I am, with one of my favorite…

Malia Shake
A malted milkshake Candy Cutie! Malia works at her mother's shop on the weekends. She loves to experiment and make new flavors but her favorite will always be chocolate. Malia loves the vintage aesthetic.

A WEST COAST-FAST FOOD HOT SPOT FOR THE AGES -- PURE AMERICAN STYLE.
PIC INFO: Spotlight on a Pioneer Chicken eatery, Los Angeles, California, c. 1974. 📸: Richard Longstreth, from the book "Road Trip" (Universe Publishing, 2015).
PIONEER OVERVIEW: "...By 1987, Pioneer was going bankrupt, and in 1993, the parent company for Popeyes, a national fried chicken chain that by all accounts was nothing like Pioneer, purchased the ailing company, converting most of the remaining Pioneers into Popeyes. The loss was mourned a bit by the press and then life went on, but part of the city’s fast-food identity was lost. In a common, ambient way, Pioneer Chicken was central to the Los Angeles experience, the myth history of the town. It was everywhere, like orange street lights or jacaranda trees, a fixture of the landscape. And then, suddenly, it wasn’t…"

A milkshake is a dessert beverage made by mixing milk and icecream to form a cold, thick liquid. It often includes mixins akin to ice cream toppings to add a variety of texture and flavor to the drink. Any icecream flavor can serve as the base, but vanilla is the most common.
Milkshakes are usually served at any ice cream store as an alternate option. They can also be found at Burger places and diners as an example of 'American food'
A popular variant of a milkshake is a 'malt' which grinds 'malt' (a dried and specially treated grain often used to make vinegar and alcohol) into the mixture. The flavor is more complete with a malt, and malts tend to have fewer textured mixins compared to standard milkshakes.
one thing about americans is that they know how to make a fucking milkshake

Stella Stops at Burger King
The local Burger King is found just off the island, on Route 47 in neighboring Rio Grande. I stopped there for a cold beverage on the way back from a visit to W. T. Grant’s department store. These photos were taken on January 26th, 1968. (…Or, was that 2024?) What I love about this place is how everything, from the wall painting to the soda machine, sreeams out “1960s!” When people look back on…
