True-Crime Podcast Update: Crooks Everywhere Debuts: Up And Vanished Podcast In Alaska
Podcast networks that carpet bomb the podcasting space have unsurprisingly uneven results. Sometimes they miss their target, such as the snarky, sanctimonious, smartass Ben Shapiro Show. At other times, iHeart hits the bullseye with the two podcasts I'll discuss in this article.
Crooks Everywhere podcast reveals crime endemic in Malta iHeartPodcasts, Topic Studios, and Vespucci have announced Crooks Everywhere, a new true-crime podcast that delves into the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia, a Maltese journalist who spent her life fighting for truth, justice and decency in a country overrun by corruption.
A ten-part series, Crooks Everywhere was released on Wednesday, September 25th. The show is hosted by John Sweeney and Manuel Delia, and executive produced by Johnny Galvin and Daniel Turcan at Vespucci; Christy Gressman at Topic Studios; Katrina Norvell and Nikki Ettore at iHeartPodcasts; and Sienna Miller.
Here's the summary of the show:
"During her lifetime, Daphne fought for democracy and the rule of law through her blog, Running Commentary, which was read not only on her home island but around the world. In Crooks Everywhere, this blog is used as a through line and commentary to provide insight into Daphne’s life and the corruption occurring all around her."
“Daphne was a brilliant journalist whose writing was at times shocking, moving, and hilarious,” said Sienna Miller, who voices Daphne on Crooks Everywhere. “But while she was a prolific writer, she sadly left behind few audio or video interviews. This is why I am honored to bring her story to life through her sensational writing and proud to be part of a show that amplifies a voice that so many in power wanted to be silenced.”
While Crooks Everywhere is a crime podcast at its core, in true investigative journalist fashion, the show goes much deeper than solving a murder. Co-hosts Sweeney and Delia also expose the dangerous intermingling of politics, dark money, and organized crime in Malta.
“When a proper journalist like Daphne is rubbed out, the killers are betting that everyone will be too afraid to do something about it.” said Sweeney, an award-winning former BBC journalist, host of the podcast Hunting Ghislaine, and author of 14 books.
Delia, a former political operative turned writer and civil society activist who won the 2019 Prize for Courage in Journalism, said, “Daphne’s killing was a loss of innocence for my country. We now live and work in a place where a journalist has been killed for doing her job. You don’t have to be a journalist to be worried by that. I want to tell Daphne’s story because that’s the only way I can fight back. Crooks never rest. Neither should we.”
The project began several weeks after Daphne’s death in the fall of 2017 when Vespucci commissioned a book from Sweeney, Delia, and Carlo Bonini that would become Murder on the Malta Express: Who killed Daphne Caruana Galizia? (2019). The book was subsequently optioned by Topic Studios.
“We are thrilled to partner with Topic Studios and Vespucci to bring ‘Crooks Everywhere’ to life,” said Will Pearson, President, iHeartPodcasts. “This new captivating true-crime series will dive deep into the complexities of corruption and injustice, engaging our listeners like never before.”
Topic Studios presents itself as an award-winning entertainment studio that develops, finances, and produces critically-acclaimed films, television series, and podcasts for demanding audiences. **********************************************************
Up And Vanished fourth season in Alaska
Payne Lindsay is a pivotal figure in podcasting as a host, creator, entrepreneur, and true-crime investigator. Lindsay has been investigating an Alaska Airlines passenger data privacy breach that figures into a double murder investigation in Nome, Alaska.
In brief: Payne Lindsey has been investigating a pair of suspicious and intersecting disappearances in Nome, Alaska. They are featured on the currently airing fourth season of Up And Vanished.
The only way to fly commercially to Nome is from Anchorage on Alaska Airlines.
Payne Lindsay recently booked a flight to Nome and then decided not to fly due to an unforeseen schedule change. When social media started bubbling with “Payne is in Nome” alerts, and he got a bunch of “Are you in Nome?” texts from local contacts involved in the case, he knew something strange was going on. Why would anyone think he was there if he wasn’t, and he didn’t tell anyone he was coming? Upon investigation, Lindsay concluded that his flight plans had been accessed by someone and then communicated to others involved in the case including persons very close to the disappearances, which is a clear violation of FAA regulations and Alaska Airlines privacy rules, and an affront to Lindsay’s sense of personal safety and security.
Payne Lindsay has shared this info on his social media and is expecting the cooperation of Alaska Airlines in investigating the leak, and making arrangements to ensure his and other passengers' privacy and personal safety. Alaska Air customer service has reached out via DM on IG, but taken no action to date.
Nome is a small town, and there are people involved in the case who work at Alaska Airlines.
Check out season four of Up And Vanished. It's a true-crime podcast that hits close to home for all of us.

Hey there, folks! I recently saw @serhat2019 posting threads comparing 2019 with 1999 and 1989. I love comparisons going back into the classic contests, though for me, 1989 and 1999 are each the weakest contest of their respective decades. It got me wondering which songs I’d prefer if I included all the decade-ending years. So, here we are! Of course, I removed the countries with just one song, but here’s my comparison of those with 2 or more songs across ESC history. Gold means I think it’s the best for that country over the decades. Silver is like an honourable mention because I like it a fair bit. Red is for when I particularly dislike a song.
Albania - 2 decent efforts but I much prefer Ktheju tokës. Keep keeping your songs in your beautiful languages, Shqipëria. Armenia - A real tough choice as these are two of their best ever songs. At the minute, my mind is constantly singing Walking out oooooo, so I give it the edge. Austria - Austria is one of many countries I feel end decades on a lacklustre note. Limits is the best of the bunch for me. Azerbaijan - The second best Azeri song for me (top is Skeletons) versus one of the shriekiest. No contest... Truth. Belarus - Not much of a choice. I go for Like it even though I don’t... like it... much Belgium - 6 decades, 6 songs and none get my heart racing. Door de wind and Like the wind are pleasant enough. This year’s is too. The one with the most character of the bunch for me is Hey nana. Croatia - Slim pickings - 2009. Cyprus - Not a fan of any of their decade-ending songs. The first is the least tragic for me. Czechia - I didn’t hate Aven romale as much as many folk did, but I prefer FoaF. Denmark - I like this year’s song, but even better is the iconic Tommy Seebach. Estonia - Storm is dire sub-Avicii stuff. Diamond of night was one of the few nice songs in a woeful year. But I’m going with Rändajad of course, probably Estonia’s best. Finland - Of course going here with Katri Helena, one of the many often undeservedly forgotten queens of ESC. France - the only one of this bunch I don’t like is this year’s obnoxious ode to self. Je suis l’enfant soleil was a fierce return for AMD. J’ai volé la vie is one of the very few occasions where I’ve been able to stomach a child performing in main ESC. But I have to go with Un jour, un enfant, one of the best winners ever for me.
Germany - Miss Kiss Kiss Bang made me swing, Dschingis Khan made me dance, but I’ve got to pick Heute Abend..., which charms the hell out of me 60 years later! Greece - This year’s is one of my favourite entries from Greece in a while. The cheery Sokrati gets an honourable mention. Hungary - Credible versus cringe. 2019. Iceland - The best Icelandic song ever for me was 1989. Such a strange musical procession, such poëtic lyrics, such an undeserved nil points. Ireland - Sadly my dear Ireland often ended decades on underwhelming notes. 22 is the best of the bunch for me. Israel - Can one not pick Hallelujah here? I hope not. Italy - in most occasions while doing this, if a country had a lot of entries, the lower the probability was that I’d pick this year. Italy is one of the few exceptions. I adore Soldi above the 4 others, though they’re mostly very nice entries. Latvia - Nice, laidback, rainy song versus a pretty dire outing in 2009. 2019. Lithuania - Strazdas is one of the few songs I like from ‘99 and the best of the three. I wish they’d return to their national language! Luxembourg - Statistically, one of my favourite countries ever at the contest, but they didn’t do much justice to themselves in the ends of decades. I prefer the quirky Monsieur. Macedonia - Both decent but not spectacular. Both a bit old-fashioned. I prefer the rocky one. Malta - One of Malta’s best versus 2 of their worst. Chameleon any day of the week. Moldova - Extremely dreary song this year, especially when compared to the dynamic Hora din Moldova! Monaco - 1959. I didn’t like any of the three though Montenegro - You know a song is bad when you prefer Heaven over it, but the Siegel penned Abba-ripoff of 2009 is indeed worse than D mol. Netherlands - Arcade is nice. De troubadour is iconic. But Een beetje is one of the greatest winners evah! Norway - Going for another oft forgotten ESC queen. Anita Skorgan with the groovy Oliver. Poland - Poor choice. Going with this year’s for being the most traditional. Portugal - Adore Telemóveis... but for the minute, it has to take runner-up status to the stunning and equally passionate Desfolhada. Romania - Easy pick for the dark 2019. Russia - Scream is nice enough. Ironically, Scream, despite its scary name, nowhere near scared me as much as Mamo did. Serbia - Serbia doing what they do best in 2019 vs a weird entry in 2009. Taking the former. Slovenia - Easy pick for the divinely introspective, intimate Sebi. Spain - A bunch of decent songs from my country of residence... Su canción was lovely til the wee anklebiters started singing. Nacida para amar is an epic... but I have to prefer a song that I will be singing for the whole day now. Desde que llegaste, ya no vivo llorando EY vivo cantando EY vivo soñando EY <3 Sweden - Judy min vän is great and the lyrical content is very unusual for ESC. I like Too late for love, one of Sweden’s best efforts for years even if it is half-plagiat. But the easy winner here is the song I feel is Sweden’s best winner ever in 1999. Switzerland - Some very beige offerings plus the smugness of 2019 and the oddball earworm annoyingness of 1979. I go for 1969 as the most benign. Turkey - I have to go for 1989, back in the glory days of Turkish différence at the contest. UK - Say it again was probably the most underrated UK song of the 90s. Sing little birdie was really charming. Got to go for Boom bang a bang though, an eternal earworm!

Model Revel: Kate Park 온카지노 returns to her eighth year as SI swimsuit model.
Time flies when you're having fun, Kate Park?! It's just like yesterday we met this Canadian cutie, and now I can't believe she's been back in sports-illustrated swimsuits for eight years!
Kate first joined the SI swimsuit family in 2013 and must have fallen in love at first sight! After an amazing photo shoot on Easter Island in Chile, the blue-eyed beauty was named the Rookie of the Year award. Now, like this year's Rookie of the Year award, Chrissy Teigen, our girl Kate will have eight huge problems with her SI swimsuit.
To say that traveling around the world with Kate was a dream would be the ultimate understatement. From Switzerland to Malta, to Costa Rica, we could look back on all the beautiful pictures of Kate.
When we don't recall all the amazing memories we had with Kate, there's a good chance we'll check out her killer Instagram page. Whether she writes behind the scenes at New York Fashion Week, takes pictures of lovely puppies or records her many exercise classes, we can't honestly be satisfied with Kate.
Luckily, we'll see more of this wonderful woman while filming the 2020 issue in Bali! We are excited just to think of Kate in front of Yu-chai's lens for the first time since 2014. I feel like we're going to be meant for each other!
Would you like to see this SI swimsuit veteran in action? Follow the Instagram to view all behind-the-scenes content!

A video of a Maltese football fan going berserk after his team scored a last-gasp goal to reach the Champions League final in dramatic fashion has summed up the feelings of millions of Tottenham Hotspur football fans.
Timmy Agius has been travelling overseas to watch his beloved Tottenham play for years, so imagine his dismay when they got to the semi-final of the Champions League... and learning the fixture clashed with his waterpolo commitment.
The Marsaxlokk player has been a Spurs fan since birth, egged on by his father who is equally dedicated to them and who had managed to go to every match as the team worked its way up to the semi-finals.
Timmy went head over heels with his celebrations.
A season-ticket holder, Timmy even stays at the same hotel as the team, in the hope of getting a glimpse of his heroes.
"They are like rock stars... Especially Harry Kane," he sighed wistfully as he spoke to the Times of Malta.
"I use up all my vacation leave to go to matches; my girlfriend is not thrilled!" he chuckled.I use up all my vacation leave to go to matches; my girlfriend is not thrilled
But this week simply did not work out and he could not let him team down, opting instead to watch the second leg against Ajax with his friend, Andrew Valenzia.
When Ajax scored within the first five minutes - and adding a second later - he was stunned, pacing around the flat like a bear with a sore head.
"I simply did not know what to do with myself. But then after half time, I just felt that things were turning around, that luck was on our side. And after Ajax hit the post, I really felt like it could actually happen. I started to believe..." he said enthusiastically.
Tottenham did the impossible with Lucas Moura grabbing a hat-trick, the last in the fifth minute of injury time, sealing the second dramatic English team comeback in a week.
When the match was won, his friend forgot about his own celebrations as Timmy started to dance around in front of the television, shooting a video which has since gone viral on online media.
At one point, the fan is seen screaming into the sofa so as not to disturb his neighbours.
So what is next?
Timmy has managed to get permission to miss training so that he can go to watch the final on June 1 but he has not obtained tickets to the match yet. A little detail like that is hardly going to deter him.
"I will fix something. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!" he said.
Tottenham's Brazilian forward Lucas celebrates after scoring a goal with teammate Christian Eriksen.

Negli ultimi anni, il DNA del design di Matthew si è tradotto perfettamente in interior design.

ROME: A charity rescue ship run by German NGO Sea-Eye was blocked outside Italian territorial waters on Thursday with 40 migrants on board, after Italy’s far-right interior minister banned it from entering.
The migrants on the Alan Kurdi ship, rescued Wednesday off Libya, hail from West Africa and include a pregnant woman, three young children and a man with gunshot wounds, according to Sea-Eye.
There were also two survivors of a bombing of a Tripoli detention centre that killed dozens of migrants in July, it said.
Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini, who has taken a hard line against migrants entering the country, said the rescue was a “provocation” and accused the crew of behaving “in a petty fashion”.
Meanwhile two other charity ships were set to provide another challenge to Salvini, who is also deputy prime minister.
On Thursday the Spanish migrant rescue charity Proactiva Open Arms ship rescued 52 people, including 16 women and two babies, found adrift in a boat that was taking on water and in danger of capsizing midway between the Libyan coast and the Italian island of Lampedusa.
Meanwhile the Norwegian-flagged Ocean Viking, operating for Humanitarian groups SOS Mediterranee and Doctors and Without Borders (known by its French initials MSF), was preparing to set sail for the zone off the Libyan coast where migrants have frequently been rescued.
‘This is blackmail’
The Alan Kurdi ship sailed north from Libyan waters overnight and came to a stop off Lampedusa on Thursday.
Salvini says the rescue operation took place much closer to Tunisia than Lampedusa, so those saved should be taken there.
But rights campaigners say Tunisia cannot be considered a “safe port” because it has repeatedly blocked migrants at sea before repatriating them, without giving them time to apply for asylum.
The minister blocked an Italian coast guard ship off Lampedusa last week, only letting the migrants disembark in Sicily on Wednesday after a deal with the Italian church and five European countries to take them.
On Thursday Salvini said that the German government had told the European Commission that unless the 40 migrants onboard the Alan Kurdi were allowed to disembark in Italy it would not take in a group of 30 migrants it had already promised to accept.
“This is real blackmail,” said Salvini. “It confirms that other European countries consider Italy as their refugee camp, but things have changed and we no longer accept orders and invasions.”
There was no immediate word from Berlin on Salvini’s accusation.
During its last rotation off Libya in early July, the Alan Kurdi rescued 109 migrants and disembarked them in Malta.
A few days earlier, the Sea-Watch — another German charity — forcibly landed migrants in Lampedusa after deciding those rescued posed a danger to themselves and others after a lengthy stand-off at sea.
Captain Carola Rackete was arrested but it was overturned by a court, however the ship was seized as part of a police investigation.
