This is probably one of my shorter stories, but! Here we are! Malli being sympathetic and helping anyone he can. (Based off of link)

Malli Till is my boy
~~~
Giving a tap on the door to the one and only Accordion and Violin, Malli could only give a chuckle as he held up the much larger baby. Not that Malli was a particularly large male, but compared to the baby in his arms, he was small.
The baby babbling in his arms caught his attention, turning to look at the baby boy in his arms, giving a smile from behind his mask at the nonsense babbling. "Really now? And all of that happened?" He asked, only earning more, excited babbling from the baby. "And you're sure?" More nodding, Malli could only give a giggle. "Precious thing.."
The door finally opened, and Malli quickly straightened himself out while fixing the baby on his hip. "I.. Think this little guy got loose." He remarked, giving a nervous chuckle at the end. But, he was motioned inside the room, which confused Malli for a moment. He listened, walking in and setting the baby down on the bed, beside Accordion and Aurelia, which was met with overjoyed excitement and squealing. Malli couldn't help but smile at the father, turning around to Violin.
"Where did he run off to?" He asked, giving a small chuckle at the three now cozied together and hugging onto each other. "I found him in the hallway. Just lifted him up before he got too far." Malli replied, giving a smile from behind his mask, before pointing to the door. "I should be heading back now. Really only ran out- Oh, actually. Do you have any clue where Danny is?"
This made the couple's expressions sour a little. "Yeah.. Just head down a couple of doors, to the left, he'll be there." Violin spoke, motioning in a specific direction that made it clear which direction it was down. Malli gave his thanks, before he left the room and began his way down the hallway. He stopped in his tracks after passing a certain door, trekking backwards and spotting Danny-
This wasn't Malli's first rodeo by a long shot. He walked into the room and looked to Danny, giving a small frown as he saw how sickly the other look, even while asleep. "This won't do.." He muttered, before spotting where the rope was tied, on the ceiling, and being held.. Oh, what a time to be shorter.. And what a time to be an assassin.
Giving a hum, he unsheathed one of his hidden blades, before jumping up high enough to swing and hit only rope. Acting quickly, he wrapped his other arm around Danny, sheathing the blade back, and catching Danny with a quiet grunt. He stood up from his awkwardly crouched position, before bringing the asleep Danny to a nearby area that was a bit higher than everything else. He glanced around the room for a moment, before beginning to clean..
After about thirty minutes of cleaning, Malli's attention turned to some coughing from where Danny laid, a bucket nearby to catch whatever felt unsettled in his stomach. Thankfully, Malli was finished, tossing what paper towels he used away, and making sure the floor wasn't sticky where the mess was. He moved to where Danny was, settling down beside him and glancing toward the Toppst member. "Are you okay..?"
"Been better... Been worst too.." Danny replied, hunched over the bucket as a precaution for his unsettled stomach. Malli settled his hand on his shoulder blades gently rolling his thumb to help the other calm down. "How did I get down..?"
"I cut you down. Don't worry." Malli spoke, before grabbing something out of his pocket and handing it over. "Take this. It's a dose of liquid medicine for your stomach." He said, with Danny looking extremly confused at the odd contraption that held the medicine. He grabbed it, shifting to sit up, before twisting the cap off and swallowing down the stomach medicine, giving a small 'bleh' at the taste afterwards.
"I know, but it'll help." Malli spoke, before standing up and glancing to the rope that hung in the middle of the room, before jumping and grabbing it, climbing up like gravity wasn't a thing.
"You know.." Oh, the dreaded, shadowy voice.. It made Danny tense. "..What if that was poison he gave you? Hmm? It'd be easy to get revenge.. Shove him down once he falls.."
"Oh, shut up.." Danny muttered under his breath, sitting with his legs crisscrossed while watching Malli climb to the roof and untie the rope, once he was held on to the metal beam that had the rope on it. "It's not poison. If it was poison, my stomach would hurt more, not feel better."
"Then yank that mask off. C'mon, he can't hide behind it forever.."
"Enough.."
Malli fell down to the ground, standing up after a rollout as to not hurt his legs more. He gave a hum, grabbed the rope and rolling it up on itself, all while humming a bit subconsciously. "Alright. Think you're well enough to move?"
"Yeah, I think so..?" Danny said, but it sounded more of a question, which brought an obvious worry to Malli's eyes. "Don't worry about me.."
"Kind of hard to do. In a worrier." Malli spoke, holding his hand out to Danny as an offering for him to stand up. In which Danny did, being a bit wobbly on his legs from actually standing. Thankfully, with Malli there, he was able to push on his hands for support. It wasn't until his stomach growled did he realize why he felt so weak, face flushing a red from embarrassment.
"I.. Uhm.."
"Let's get you to the kitchen. Can you walk?"
Danny did give it a try, but with the mix of not eating, medicine, and motion sickness beforehand, it wasn't working to well. "N.. No.. I don't think so.. Not with swaying and sitting and making it take twenty forev- EEP!"
It was all pretty quick, yet smooth, with Malli lifting him up bridle style and making sure he had a grip on Danny. He glanced down, giving a smile from behind his mask. "If it gets uncomfortable, or you start feeling sick, just tell me."
All Danny could do was stare blankly at Malli, mouth agape, and practically speechless. He allowed himself to be carried, just out of it while staring to the ceiling in nothing but confusion. "Thank you.. Mystery.. Person.."
"Purple. Call me Purple."
"Thank you, Purple.. Weirdass name."
"Better than the stereotypical name I have that barely fits me."
This got a chuckle out of both of them, with Danny only needing to stop once or twice to be grounded on their way to the kitchen, but it was soon they made it there, getting Danny something to eat. And Malli- Wait..
Danny glanced around from his meal, trying to spot the bright hair and purple mask, but.. He was gone? This brought Danny back into thought, but the smell of food broke it, allowing him to get back to eating with a smile.
I’m trying not to take too much space but alas! An idea!
Young Sebek Zigvolt has a favorite toy, a lovely doll with a soft body and pretty looking eyes. How ever the young Zigvolt does not know that his favorite toy holds the shackled and captured soul of a dragon fae.
[✐] ficlet frenzy
Malleus knows not of how long he has been trapped here, only that it has been for far too long.
For what feels like an eternity, he has been imprisoned in a deceptively soft prison, soul shackled to the body of a plain cloth doll. And much like he does not know how long it has been, Malleus also does not recall how he got into this situation; there is a gaping hole in his memories between the faded few memories of his past life as fae, and the new life he spends as a children’s plaything.
He has been tossed around from owner to owner. At first, they were hostile enemies, men who were distinctly aware of what they held in their hands. They jeered at him, throwing him around and laughing at him. Look at him, they’d crow, look how helpless he is! The prince of those blasted fae, now nothing but a silly little toy!
He found out soon after that that even if his faculties were severely limited, he still held a sliver of his former power. And for him, Malleus Draconia, the heir apparent to the throne of Briar Valley, a sliver was all he needed.
But that sliver, though enough to free him from his captors, was not enough to break him out of his flimsy, cloth-spun body. So Malleus had little choice but to be passed from owner to owner, starting with the thief who’d found him while ransacking the decrepit remains of his kidnappers’ house, who sold him to make a quick buck, and continuing from generation to generation of humans. He’d seen many people: an elderly woman who collected dolls; a reckless little girl who kept flinging him into the dustiest places; even a collared feline who kept scratching at him with sharp claws, scooping him up with pointed fangs to drag him from place to place!
But by far, his favourite human has to be none other than the boy named Sebek.
The boy had found him at one of many human craftsmarkets, walking by with one of his parents. He had wandered over and picked him up, and for a moment, Malleus had feared for another several years of being thrown around by yet another reckless child, until he was either sold or managed to whisk himself away with meagre savings of his magic.
But he had been surprised by the careful way that Sebek treated him. From his grip — firm but not tight, barely creasing his clothes — to the way he had talked to him after his parents purchased him from the stall… He’d treated Malleus like a person, showing him the sights around them, asking him if he wanted to look at this or that, happy despite Malleus’ inability to reply. And such behaviour had continued long after they’d gotten home that day, stretching over months and months — being dressed in something other than tattered rags, getting carried around from dawn till dusk, being treated as a friend.
Could Malleus really be faulted for having biases? He’d suggested his own name to Sebek after all, wasting a little of his slow-saving magic on suggesting his true name in a dream. He’d found it a little unfortunate at first, when Sebek boldly declared his name as “MALLIE!” rather than what it actually was, but he soon grew fond of it, regarding it as a friendly nickname he never got the opportunity to receive.
Even to this day, he still knows of no way to escape his horrid circumstances, seemingly bound to the body of a doll for an infinite eternity. And though Malleus does miss it sometimes — the autonomy, the magic, the might and power and influence he commanded through his mere presence alone — he cannot deny the fact that he no longer longs to return to the valley. Not for now, at least; not while he is still here with Sebek.
It feels lovely to be wanted for who he is, and not for the prince he happens to be. Perhaps he shall return to longing for the thorny depths of the valley once he is inevitably sold or given away to yet another owner, Sebek discarding him much like everyone else.
But for now, Malleus shall indulge in a strange luxury he’s never thought he’d come to love: to be engulfed by the innocent love of a child, to be bestowed the imperative role of Sebek’s ever-vigilant companion, to be hugged to death and dressed in soft clothes, listening as the boy regales him with fairy tales of a dragon-slaying prince.
True Storms Reveal Crocodile Forms
(I was wrong this is 2,854 words.)
It had been rather rainy the whole day. Silver was woken up that morning when there was a loud crack of thunder that felt like it shook the whole school. Lilia was still asleep peacefully whenever Silver left the room and found Malleus and Sebek sitting together on the couch. He noticed that Sebek kept scratching his neck and Malleus had kept stopping him repeatedly while they were talking.
Silver wasn't exactly sure what they were talking about being to sleepy to understand but didn't want to disturb whatever they were doing. He was unsuccessful in not being noticed because he felt himself lifted up by someone who came up behind him and turned to see Lilia with a smile on his face.
"It seems your new habit is eavesdropping now is it Silver?" Silver shook his head rapidly. "Waiting till they done to get pankis." Lilia giggled at Silver's reply. "Don't worry. I'm sure that I can make you some pancakes."
Lilia's words only brought a look of horror onto Silver's face before he looked at the ground defeatedly. "I am sure I can make them Lilia. Talk with Sebek for a moment." Lilia shrugged and placed Silver on the ground who hurried over to Malleus. The two of them walked into the kitchen and Silver hugged Malleus' leg. "Thanks you." Malleus patted Silver's head gently. "I'm pleased to help you Silver. I could see how terrified you were when Lilia said he was going to cook."
Silver shuttered when he thought about Lilia cookie and nodded. "Now Silver fetch me some sugar. I can find the rest of the ingredients." Silver wandered over to the counter and crawled onto it before reaching up into the cabinets and grabbing the sugar and flour two things he knew would be needed for pancakes. He was going to climb down but let out a surprised noise when someone picked him up again.
"if you required help child of man you simply need to ask. I would have happily assisted you." Silver could tell it was Malleus who grabbed him due to his voice. Malleus seemed to simply adjust Silver in his arms though and went about grabbing the flour and sugar. "Thank you though Silver for fulfilling what I asked of you and also finding the flour as well." Silver was pleased with the compliment he received and clapped happily.
"Always ready to help Mallie." Malleus let out a pleased hum and continued to gather things for the pancakes. When everything was put into a bowl and it was time to mix the pancakes Malleus simply brought over a chair for Silver to stand on and had him mix the pancake mix helping as needed.
Silver watched with aw as Malleus poured the pancake mix and how they turned from a liquid to a wonderfully sweet, and fluffy bread. He felt like pancakes had a magic of their own in a wonderful and mystical way.
When the pancakes were finished both Sebek and Lilia entered and took some. Lilia lifted Silver into his arms after he had taken a bite out of a pancake and kissed his head. " Did you make these pancakes with Malleus?" Silver couldn't help but giggle and happily say "Yepie" when Lilia asked.
The fae smiled and tickled Silver's sides causing him to laugh loudly and try to wriggle away. Malleus seemed interested in joining in though and tickled at Silver's neck causing his affectious laughs to get louder. Once Silver said stop the two concluded their tickle attack but still had the smiles that remained on their faces.
Lilia held out the pancakes Silver had on a plate to him now both in a container. "We have to head to class so I'll carry you and your pancakes to the garden. Sam said he would be meeting us out there ad you would go around helping drop off some packages." Silver gave a half attentive nod focused more on eating the pancakes that he had before him than listening to Lilia. The fae motioned for both Sebek and Malleus to follow him as he walked out to the garden Silver in tow.
Sam was waiting at the garden for them to arrive with Silver like he had said and waved when he saw them. "Thank you for meeting me here. I would have hated to make you go out to the shop in the rain. Me and Silver will most likely be chilling out here by time we are finished delivering the packages to the students. Text me though if you want him dropped off wherever you may be."
Lilia agreed to what Sam said and kneeled down to hug Silver. "I love you Silver. I'll see you after school." Silver hugged Lilia and cheerfully said "I love you to Papa." Sebek, Malleus, and Lilia left after he and Silver were done hugging leaving Silver with Sam. Silver looked up towards Sam and waved. "What we doin' Mr'S?"
////////////
Delivering packages to students was surprisingly a long job. It was well until lunch before the packages were finished being given to students. It made sense though since it seemed the students could be any where at any time. Silver met up with Lilia and Malleus at lunch and was able to eat with them happily taking his place by Malleus. It didn't take much to notice a lack of Sebek at the table. "Where did Sebie go?" Silver asked looking around. Malleus placed a hand on his head reassuringly.
"Sebek is currently resting. The rain caused him to feel sick and so he is away in the garden at the moment." Malleus' answer only gave Silver more questions.
"Why?" Lilia seemed to be the next to answer. "Whenever natural storms that are strong happen Sebek seems to be more in link with his fae nature than his human nature. In times like these Sebek has a partial transformation into his crocodilian form since he is a crocodile fae. This means that for his safety and other Sebek does into an area of the garden so he can relax and feel safe. It is a uncomfortable time do to the fact that the transformation is not by his will."
Silver grabbed an orange from off the table. "We should take Sebek food than to help him feel better." Both Lilia and Malleus seemed to directly refuse the idea by shouting "NO!" at the same time. The cafeteria went silent and the two didn't speak until the talking of other students returned to normal.
"It is best to simply leave him be. It is ok if myself or Malleus goes near him because we are able to defend ourselves if he tries to harm us. You are not able to do that though Silver. He would not mean to harm you but Sebek can not control hismself well during that time."
Silver gave Lilia a disappointed look. "But Papa, Sebek needs-" Lilia shook his head no and took Silver's hands in his own from across the table. "Promise me Silver that you won't bother him. Please. I do not beg ever but this is a time I am. Promise me you will not bother him if he is not near me or Malleus." Silver gave a solemn nod not wanting to upset Lilia.
"I promise Papa. I won't bother Sebek unless he's with you." Lilia seemed to let out a sigh of relief releasing Silver's hands. "Thank you Silver. Thank you so much. You don't understand how much that eases me." Silver felt Malleus wrap an arm around his shoulders and bring him closer to himself.
"Thank you child of man." Silver was still confused and a bit hurt that he couldn't see Sebek but let it be. The last thing he wanted to do was upset Lilia and Malleus.
////////////
Silver was in the garden with Leona two days later napping when he heard a weird noise. The noise sounded loud and painful and caused Silver to come out of his dreams and look around confused now that he was awake by the fact that Leona was gone and the painful sounding below. It was like the thunder that had continued relentlessly and didn't help Silver sleep at night.
He stood up and looked around for where it came from. The noise came out again and it reminded Silver of a pained animal. Silver remembered Lilia telling him that if he ever found a hurt animal like a bird that he should bring it to Lilia. Silver was determined to listen to what his father had said and find the hurt animal. He hated the noise it was making and how sad it sounded.
The noise eventually lead Silver to a door. The handle was just low enough for Silver to reach if he stood high enough and open the door. Inside the room was bright. There was an area where what looked like a little wooden fort was that kept out the light but otherwise all around it was bright and a warm temperature was being omitted from the lights.
There was even a little pool in the middle of the room. The noise of the pained creature had seemed to have gone quiet. The pool of water instead now caught his attention. Silver crept closer to the edge of it and kneeled next to the pool.
Fish were swimming around within it and there were lily pads and algae over the surface of it. Silver had simply reached his hand out to touch a flower when he fell in. He felt panicked once he had suddenly gone under the water and tried to swim out. He felt his legs getting entangled in the roots of the lily pads and his hands gripping onto the sides of the pool but unable to get a full grasp on it.
Silver sobbed now fully panicked only for water to rush into his mouth when he did. A hand though fiercely grabbed Silver's shirt and yanked his out of the pond and onto the land where he was placed into someone's arms and started coughing violently any water that he had almost breathed in gone and soon replaced with air. Silver sobbed loudly and buried his face into the crook of the person's smooth neck while they reassuringly rubbed his back trying to calm Silver.
Eventually Silver was calmed and his sobs turned to sniffles. He was placed down besides the person who still continued to rub his back. When Silver looked at the person he saw Sebek. He looked different though. Sebek had green scales over his whole body, with sharp nails on his hands and top teeth that seemed to extend out of his mouth a bit while his pupils were now slits. It was odd also seeing Sebek in such casual clothes wearing a plain blue shirt and black shorts. "Sebie?" Silver asked looking up confused.
Sebek didn't speak but gave a nod. Silver stood up and immediately hugged Sebek wrapping his arms around his neck. "Thanks you Sebie. Thanks you. That scary." Sebek wrapped am arm around Silver while his other hand rubbed his back trying to keep reassuring Silver that he was now ok. When Silver released Sebek from the hug he looked at him and began touching his face. It felt weird and the lines in between Sebek's scales made his face oddly smooth and the scales themselves felt slick.
Silver was infatuated by them and continued to rub his hand over Sebek's face interested by how strange they were. Sebek seemed comforted and closed his eyes letting Silver stroke his face letting out a low noise that almost sounded to Silver like a crocodile's version of a purr. Silver sat on Sebek's lap when he was tired of standing. It caused him to giggle when he saw what he realized was a crocodile tail that had come around in front of Sebek.
Silver took the tail in his hands and held it before running it over the scutes that aligned the top of the tail. Sebek's tail went from levitating in front of Silver to laying across him and Silver as he continued to inspect it. Silver was simply enjoying the fact that he could touch the scales and tail of a crocodile. He had never been able to before since Lilia prohibited him from going towards and crocodile's before unless they were stuffed animals.
That simply just made the moment more mystical to Silver as he looked over the tail. Silver had petted Sebek's tail for quite awhile before leaning against Sebek a yawn escaping him as he did. Sebek lifted Silver into his arms and took him into the fort and laid down next to him on a pile of blankets. Silver sighed pleased and cuddled himself next to Sebek.
////////////
The next time Silver was awoken it was by the shouts of people outside of the room he and Sebek were in. Sebek seemed to have left the little fort was was sitting outside of it watching the door that led out to the garden. When the door opened Sebek began to let out a low bellowing sound as three people entered the room. "Sebek we are not here to harm you. All we need to know is if Silver is in here. He's been gone for several hours and we can't find him." Silver noticed the voice as his Papa but Sebek seemed to let out a menacing hiss.
"Sebek listen to Lilia. I know it's hard to understand us when you're like this but we need to check the area. Silver was left unsupervised during those hours. If he isn't in here we're going to have to order around a search party and you will be locked in here if we do that." That voice was Malleus'. It was odd how panicked he sounded.
"Do we need to restrain him? I'm ready to tackle him with you if needed." That voice was Leona's. He almost never agreed to do anything with Malleus. There had been a time where he tried to get Leona to join him and Malleus but the beastman seemed very set in not. Sebek simply let out a hiss again. When Silver heard a pained noise and the sound of thrashing he exited the fort.
Malleus and Leona were trying to use magic and their weight to hold down Sebek who was wriggling around in circles trying to escape their magical ropes. Lilia looked at Silver with a terrified look when he saw him. Silver wasn't sure if he ever wanted to see that look again on his father.
"SILVER!" Leona and Malleus went to a stop when they heard Lilia yell both having looks of terror on their faces as well. It gave Sebek though enough time to escape their holds and go into a defensive position in front of Silver his tail wrapped around Silver's waist with himself lowered and hissing at the other three. What happened next surprised Silver. It seemed to surprise everyone in the room. Lilia burst down sobbing and fell to the ground hugging himself.
Silver got out of Sebeks now slacked tail and ran over to Lilia who quickly grabbed Silver and embraced him in a hug holding Silver close continuing to sob. Silver rubbed Lilia's head trying to comfort him as best he could and saying "It's ok Papa. I'm ok." as Lilia hugged him tightly stroking Silver's hair as he did muttering "My son. My son."
Leona looked at Malleus with a raised brow who in turn glared him down. "Speak to anyone of this and you won't have a tongue to speak." Sebek gave a low hiss as if in agreement to Malleus and Leona simply agreed.
////////////
Sebek, Lilia, and Malleus were together in the room with Sebek the next day. He was slowly de transforming and Silver had been feeding Sebek orange slices as they sat near the small pond area. "When Crowley gets back from his little vacation I am going to fucking kill him" Lilia muttered with a smile on his face so Silver wouldn't notice anything was wrong.
"The fact that a Pomefiore student was somehow able to access his office and call all the dorm leader and vice dorm leaders to the mirror chamber, lie to Leona about me going to get Silver, and locking us within it is absurd. He should have taken better care of making sure his office was secure before he left."
Malleus couldn't help but agree more with Lilia. He was sure the other dorm vices and leaders would also have a few words to out in with Crowley as well. The stunt played was indeed very very dangerous. The only good thing about the situation was that Lilia and Malleus were able to find out Sebek in his crocodilian form was safe near Silver and they were able to see the adorable sight of Silver doting on Sebek like a child while Sebek allowed Silver to feed his orange slices.
Hey, remember when I said this would be tooth rotting fluff? Somehow, this has angst now. A lot of it. No, I don't know how this happened either
@auburnlaughter @hurricanebreeze @1attheedge @stonemaskedtaliesin @adhdavinci @friend-shaped-but @tamsinswriting
The way he would make himself small and meek before his English patrons. How his eyes would drop and his head would lower while passing a white man in the streets.
The scrapes and bruises that would sometimes mar his soft, kind features.
Akhtar would laugh and dismiss his concerns, no matter how much Ram pressed him.
And he would never take names.
Ram had to coax it out of Mehreen.
"They are not men but animals," she said, her voice breaking and her eyes glistening with unshed tears as she clutched his arm. "Please, Raju bhaiyya. He loves and respects you, please talk him out of entertaining these men. I always beg him to turn them away, to refuse them service but he never listens to me. We are not desperate people, Allah has blessed us enough. We don't even need their money."
Mehreen was young and blinded by her concern for her brother, and hence she did not see what Ram did. It was not about the money.
Ram remembered it still. The day his station booked a young man- no, a boy really, barely out of his teens- for sedition. They searched his house and seized a revolver, a dozen bullets and a Hindi copy of the Anandamath. They "interrogated" him for five days straight.
Ram was given charge on the last day. He broke him within an hour, making him confess to a crime he did not commit, a book he never opened, and a gun he had no knowledge of possessing.
It was not that Akhtar wouldn't stand up for himself and refuse his English customers. It was that he couldn't.
"Stop! Stop!" Ram begged, clutching the hands that held him, his fingers turning slick from the blood that coated the wrists, tears flowing freely out of his eyes. Tears as red as the blood that gushed out of the prisoner's mutilated flesh.
"Your love is the kaalkut. It's poison."
"Stop, God-"
"It poisoned the ocean."
"No-"
"It brought death to everyone you touched."
"Please, I beg you-"
"Was it the same love that compelled you to kill your father? They only found pieces of his body."
"AKHTAR, STOP, PLEASE!"
"Not Akhtar," he hissed. "Bheem, Son of the Gonds. Pampered child of the forest. Brother of Malli. Protector of my tribe."
The three claws plunged deep into his gut. Thick, dark crimson drooled freely out of Ram's mouth as the claws twisted and twisted and twisted.
"And Officer Alluri Rama Raju's enemy till death."
@leif-is-finally-awake @sourb0i @kallisto-k @zyrafowe-sny @eriquin @whimsicalmeerkat
"Raju!"
A different voice. Not the gentle, sweet voice of… of his friend... or the deep rumble of… Bh... the Gond Protector. Or had they been one and the same? Had Ram always been deaf to the truth and blind to the mirror before him? Where did the lies end and the truth begin? When did they merge so inextricably?
"Yes," the apparition whispered, voice soft, soft, soft, all of a sudden, a clawed hand reaching out and holding the noose gently, reverentially even. "Ask yourself that, Officer."
The hand fisted around the noose, pulling it down and tightening the knot around his neck.
"Ask yourself if their clothes have become your skin now."
Breathe. He couldn't breathe. Why couldn't he breathe?
"Ask yourself if their language has become your voice now."
Another pull and he was yanked forward, falling into a strong, solid, unyielding chest. "Ask yourself this- whose cause are you fighting for? Your Baba's? Or theirs?"
@kalira @loyal-house-of-lupin
He fell with a grunt, on all fours. His vision shook and his feet, slick with his blood, slipped on the wooden platform, also slick with his own blood. For one horrible, chilling moment, his knees almost touched the platform floor. But then, he gnashed his teeth and forced his limbs to hold, hold, hold tight against the dizzying agony coursing his veins. Delhi was never silent, but right now, his ragged breaths were the only sounds he could hear.
Finally, he rose.
@asha10100101010 @somefishycat @post-and-out
A movement at the corner of his eyes. One of the men guarding the rear of the platform rushed forward, rifle raised over his head, hateful eyes trained on Bheem's legs.
No! NO!
Ram's boot was behind Bheem's half prostrated knee before he even knew it.
The officer stopped short and looked at Ram in surprise. And not just that petty officer. All eyes were on him now, including the Governor's. He had to make this look good, he had to brutalize his Bheema, he had to end this soon, he had to-
To Be or Not to Be (Part 2)
Here is the 2nd & final part.
Tons of angst, but salvaged in the end. As promised. No warnings.
Plot: Bheem & Jenny visit Jenny's friend's house. Chaos ensues there. And Jenny figures out the issue between Ram & Bheem.
................................................................................
Part 1
Part 2
Ram’s words had really rattled him.
They hurt like hell, yes. What made it worse, though, was that it raised a bigger question for Bheem.
Did everyone think what Ram thought about Jenny? His own tribe as well? Sita? Did they all still see her for the colour of her skin and not how she had been with them the last 5 months? Was she….dispensable….for them as well? Someone not worth fighting for? Was their acceptance of her just lip service, for his sake?
It made Bheem’s heart hurt. His mind went into a frenzied spin.
He went to the place that usually gave him solace during such tumultuous emotions. He went to swim, to clear his head.
The water was chilly, given the time of the year and the almost set sun. It cut through his senses, making him temporarily forget all other sensations. That worked wonders.
After an extended dive, he just floated aimlessly in the water. While his heart & mind battled with each other.
Surely, his people had taken to Jenny, right? Malli had been asking him from day 1 when she could start calling Jenny Vadhina instead of Akka. Likewise, Loki had been planning their wedding since she arrived, offering to do the rituals his Amma would have done otherwise. The village elders and tribal council were ecstatic when he told them about their courtship and proposal.
How can you be sure though? Screamed his pained heart. You didn’t know Ram’s true feelings either. How can you be sure of anything anymore?
And it was true. He couldn’t be sure of what others felt. But he knew what the two of them felt and that was enough. It would have to suffice. Because the alternative would make him want to dive into the water again & never come up.
He also knew there wasn’t much time to wallow in his tribulations. Arrangements had to me made for the trip. Escape plans needed to be handy, should they be required. A sense of purpose took over again & he slowly strutted back to the village.
When he told Jenny that they would be going day after tomorrow, the girl was on seventh heaven. She threw her arms around his neck & kissed his face profusely, thanking him with all her heart.
This happiness was worth all his tribulations. His troubles paled in front of it.
He got her to write a response to Carol, in a way that only she would understand. Once the logistics were sorted, he looked into her eyes, dead serious, and made her promise to follow all his instructions till they return back.
Jenny was quite familiar with that look by now. He was this firm with her only when it was about her safety. Ofcourse she was going to cooperate. She would never want to add to his worries.
The dinner was a happy affair. Jenny chatted away about many stories of Carol & her. Bheem just looked at her & smiled, trying to capture all these moments to memory.
However, the night turned suddenly desolate. A strange sense of finality hung in the air. As if, things were going to change forever. As if, tonight was all that he had left with her. As if, the sweet little world that he had built with her would evaporate in thin air tomorrow.
She was laying in his arms, yet it felt like she was somehow slipping away. He needed to be closer to her to believe she was here.
Jenny was half asleep when he grabbed her waist & turned her around to face him. Next instant, his lips were on hers, demanding a response. She smiled and let him in, giving in to his urgency.
They stayed glued to each other for the next few hours. Alternating between sweet caresses & frenzied lovemaking.
Such spontaneous escapades were not new for them. But this one felt different to Jenny. This wasn’t just him seeking togetherness, comfort, love or solace. This had a sense of desperation, helplessness, possessiveness and even a hint of….sadness.
She grabbed his face, trying to read the myriad of emotions swimming in those stunning orbs. Was this another one of those weak moments when she needed to reassure him of her love?
‘Stay with me.’
He whispered against her cheek. A near whimper.
‘Stay mine. Forever. P-please.’
His voice broke as his fingers dug into her skin, harder than usual.
She kissed his face fervently, trying to match his urgency, pulling him back on top of her.
‘Shhhhh. I am right here, honey. I love you.’
After another hour of clinging on to each other, she passed out in his arms. Mentally & physically exhausted.
He pulled her on top of him & held on to her. Taking in her scent. Smelling her hair. Feeling her warmth against his skin. Caressing her body gently with his fingers & palm, so as not to wake her. Willing his eyes to not spill. Fruitlessly trying to prolong the night and hold back these moments.
Next noon, when they went to the small temple in the village courtyard, before starting on their journey, they encountered Ram & Sita on the way.
Jenny started walking towards Sita to greet her, but Bheem pulled her back, firmly holding on to her wrist.
‘We should go. Else we won’t make it to the city by nightfall.’
The tension in the air was palpable. It was very strange to watch the two men not greet each other with a handshake or a side hug or beaming smiles. Instead, they looked at each other with a blank face, devoid of any emotions.
Jenny looked at Sita with concern, who just nodded at her in return, nudging her to carry on & not press the topic right now.
Sita had repeatedly urged Ram last night to make things right with Bheem before their city trip. To not let this wound fester. She was astute enough to realise that Bheem’s forgiveness won’t come readily if the affected party is Jenny. It won’t be how he had readily forgiven him in the past.
But Ram had been adamant that, while his choice of words were inappropriate, his point still stood valid. He would prioritise Bheem’s safety over their togetherness in a heartbeat. How could this love, this passion of mere 5 months take precedence over EVERYTHING else? Ram couldn’t wrap his head around this insanity. Madness. Naïveté. Ignorance. And borderline foolishness.
It’s not your call to make. It doesn’t become madness just because you can’t relate to such depths of love.
Sita had thought this inwardly but had given up trying to explain this to Ram. Both Ram & Bheem could be like stubborn mules when they wanted to be. Hence, she nodded to Jenny to let it go for now.
As they walked away, Jenny intertwined her fingers with Bheem’s, as a sign that she was always there to talk about whatever was bothering him. He squeezed her hand in response but didn’t say anything.
The journey to the city was smooth, must to Bheem’s relief. They reached the safe house on the outskirts of the city by nightfall. While Jenny slept peacefully that night, brimming with excitement for the following day, Bheem firmed up some emergency escape plans with the fellow rebels, should it come to that tomorrow. Once done, he laid next to her, and just stared at her angelic face all night. Not wanting to waste a single moment in sleeping.
Next morning, they set out to the house in the back of a mini supply truck. Carol had offered to send a car or drive it herself but Bheem didn’t think it wise to be in an open vehicle in that part of the city. Upon reaching the address, they went via the backyard, as planned.
As Jenny rushed towards the stairs leading up to the door, Bheem quickly scanned the area for any signs of trouble. It looked like Carol had delivered on her promise. There were no British soldiers or staff in sight.
Carol had been pacing near the window and before Jenny could even knock on the back door, she flung it open. The two women paused, looked at each other, trying to believe that this was moment was real. Then, they crashed into each other and just burst into tears.
Jenny didn’t think she was going to see any of her loved ones from her prior life ever again. And she had made her peace with it. But this…had been so unexpected. She hadn’t anticipated such an outburst. Frankly, she wasn’t even sure why she was bawling her eyes out. Tons of lost memories came flooding back and the women just sobbed into each others’ arms.
Bheem, who was a few steps away, just observed from a distance. Tremendously moved by the emotion on display.
His heart could feel the joy & pain of the reunion. He was so happy for her. But this was a cruel reminder that despite his best efforts to give Jenny the love of everyone she had left behind, he had clearly fallen short.
His mind also started to play games. Making analogies with how Malli had cried & held on to him when he first found her behind the palace bars. When she was in captivity and looking for a way…..out.
Of all the outcomes he was fretting over, this thought hadn’t even crossed his mind earlier. That Jenny herself may not want to come back. It was such a kick to his gut that he nearly tumbled behind. But by then, Jenny had composed herself & walked towards him.
She smiled, held his hand & led him up the stairs. Carol put on her best manners to greet him. But Bheem didn’t miss the doubt & resentment she was clearly trying to mask. Frankly, he couldn’t blame her. In fact, Bheem gave her credit for how hard she was trying, for Jenny’s sake.
Carol led them in. Jenny & Bheem followed behind, hand in hand. The two women were chattering away at a rapid pace but Jenny never let go of Bheem’s hand. Never letting an awkward moment set in. Rubbing small circles on the back of his hand with her thumb.
Once convinced of no imminent danger in the house, he finally let himself relax & focus on his surroundings. The house was lavish & grand. It was minuscule when compared to the Delhi palace but it still had most of the luxuries & comforts of a palatial abode.
Bheem suddenly felt….out of place here. Exactly how he had felt in Jenny’s room that day. They had settled on the dining table, where some refreshments were being served by an Indian cook. He seemed to be the only one in the house other than Carol. The food looked strange. All the little steel items looked very puzzling. The plate looked so fancy & fragile. Bheem’s appetite turned to dread at the idea of eating at this table.
Jenny’s hand in his was a steady comfort, and he squeezed it for reassurance. When she turned around, Bheem reached out to wipe the tear stains from her face. She giggled at her silliness & he managed to smile back at her.
When Bheem yelped at the first sip of his tea, that she had mixed for him, Jenny blew into the cup. Then tasted it herself for temperature before handing it back to him. Both drinking from the same cup.
Carol observed their little exchanges keenly.
‘You two must be tired after the journey. Do you want to freshen up? I have the guest room set up for you.’
‘Oh, that sounds lovely. We will be back in a jiffy.’
Jenny tugged at Bheem’s hand and walked to the room that Carol had pointed towards.
The room looked a lot like Jenny’s room from the palace. Bheem’s treacherous mind again wondered if Carol had done that on purpose, to remind Jenny of how life used to be. Before she met him.
As Jenny freshened up, Bheem walked around the room aimlessly. Unable to decide where to even sit. Everything looked so shiny and expensive and soft. And new. He didn’t want to leave stains on anything without washing himself.
‘Thank you. For everything.’
Jenny hugged him from behind, resting her head on his shoulder. He covered her hands with his and squeezed lightly.
‘Anything for you.’
He felt her lips curve into a smile, as she snuggled further into his frame.
‘Your friend must be waiting. Why don’t you catch up with her? I will get some rest in the meanwhile.’
‘Are you sure? Is everything ok, honey?’
Bheem was glad that he had his back to her, so she couldn’t see his face.
‘Yes, everything’s fine. I am just a little tired. Couldn’t get much sleep last two days.’
She knew that was true, so didn’t press the matter further.
‘Sure, get some rest. God knows you need it. I will send something for you to eat.’
With one last cuddle & a kiss to the back of his head, she untangled herself from him & walked out. Bheem immediately missed her touch. And presence.
In the next few minutes, she sent over some refreshments. He knew Jenny had handpicked these because it was different from the spread he had seen on the table. This was stuff that she knew would be palatable to him.
Bheem settled down on the floor, finding that to be the most comfortable spot. And managed to gulp down a few items.
Then, after washing himself thoroughly for any visible stains, he finally moved to the bed. The mattress was too soft. And the sheet was too silky. He almost slipped the first time he tried to settle down.
The ceiling was too high. The bed was too big - he wondered how distant two people would be on a bed like this. Together but still apart. The room was atrociously large - as big as the school in the town nearest to his village.
Jenny was brought up with all these material luxuries. She could still go back to it all, if his love wasn’t holding her back. This was her birthright. This was the life she was destined for. Not the basic sustenance & modest belongings she had been reduced to.
Bheem couldn’t shake the thought that he was being selfish. That he was the guilty party here. That Carol was right - he had wronged her friend in more ways than one. By keeping her for himself.
It wasn’t too late. Maybe this was universe’s sign for him to make things right. Should he…should he just….let her go then? Is this what fate was pointing him to? Carol’s letter, Ram’s disapproval, visiting this place - were the stars aligning to make him see the light of the day?
Bheem buried his face in the pillow, soaking the soft fabric with his tears.
Not everyone gets blessed with love in their life. A love worth dying for. A love worth killing for. A love that consumed every other feeling. For most people, it’s a fantasy. A fairly tale concocted to give hope. But Bheem had found his love. His soulmate. He was living his fairytale.
Was his time up? Were the gods demanding him to give her up, after everything he had already lost in his life?
The memories of the last 8 months would suffice him for a lifetime. Even though the separation would rip his heart out, he would never regret a moment spent with her. Never wish it to not have happened.
It would make everything simpler for others. His tribe won’t have to adjust with an outsider all their life. He could go back to being fully devoted to his duty of being the Gond protector. He could focus single-mindedly on the needs of the revolution, without any distractions. That sure would please Ram. He wouldn’t have to constantly worry about her every time he was away on a mission. He won’t have to live with the guilt of snatching her life away from her. He had caused all this by asking her to come with him. Now, maybe he was destined to end it.
And she…well…she would be distraught. He knew that. She would be as heartbroken as he would be. But maybe….with time….and familiar surroundings…she would heal. And maybe she would find someone who would treasure her almost as much as he did. Who could give her a lot more than he ever could. Above all, she would be safe & well taken care of.
Her outburst from earlier was still playing on his mind. Was she holding her feelings in for his sake? Was she hurting inside but not letting it out? That would make her resent him at some point. Wouldn’t it be the wise thing to get ahead of that situation and act on it now?
Should he just leave? There would be no way for her to trace him. She didn’t know the path to the safe house or to the village. Maybe she would think that he brought her here only to leave her behind. Maybe the betrayal would help her heal faster. Maybe that’s the only way, because no amount of reasoning with her would make her see the point right now. Maybe that’s how to save her, even though it would inflict the worst pain imaginable.
To both of them.
Without her, he would be lost. He would immerse himself in his duties and in the service of his people. And would go back to living on the portions of affection he got from his tribe. But nothing would come close to her love. He wouldn’t dream of ever replacing her with anyone else. His heart belonged to her, even if she were to go away. It was her or no one else.
The village would start to haunt him. Every nook & cranny a cruel reminder of blissful moments spent with her. Maybe he could take up missions away from the village. Places with no familiar traces of her. Yes, he could put on a brave face. No one will know how he would be dying inside. No one ever knew. Other than her. No one read his face like she did. Quite simply because no one loved him like she did.
Bheem cried & cried into the pillow, muffling his sobs & hiccups by covering his mouth. At some point, exhaustion took over & he fell into a restless sleep, filled with nightmares.
Jenny came back a few hours later to find him twisting & turning on the bed. She snuggled into his side, wanting to find a few moments of peace in this god-awful day.
His arms wrapped around her, stroking her hair & her back.
‘What happened?’
‘Nothing. We spoke for hours and ran out of things to talk about.’
‘Jenny.’
He used a tone to clearly communicate he wasn’t buying any of that. Then, he kept her hand on his head and asked her again.
She sniffled into his chest, and his arms tightened around her.
‘I….it was a mistake. I should have never asked you to bring us here. She doesn’t get it, Bheem. She doesn’t get us. She isn’t happy for me, for us. I thought she would be the only one to understand but she doesn’t.’
This didn’t come as any surprise to Bheem.
‘What did she say? Tell me.’
‘No. It doesn’t matter what she said. I don’t want to revisit that. It’s of no consequence to me.’
‘But it matters to me. I am asking for a reason, Jenny. Please?’
She couldn’t refuse him, even if she tried. So she edited out some parts & shared the less hurtful bits.
‘She said that it’s time for this adventure to be over. That it’s not practical. I am not using my head. She thought I would stay with you for a few months & then return. After having an experience of a lifetime. After living the highs of an exotic, passionate love, I would return to my senses & to the life always destined for me. She said I am being a foolish, brainless girl by throwing away my life & my fortune. All to follow this notion of love. Which will burn out one day & I will be left with nothing.’
Jenny couldn’t tell him that Carol also doubted whether Bheem’s interest in her was purely carnal or if there was more to it. One day she will not be as pretty & he won’t fawn over her as much. She was depriving not just herself but her future kids also of everything life was meant to offer to them. How was that fair to the kids? How could she be that selfish?
She had also said that while Jenny had given up her world readily for Bheem, he would never do the same for her. If not UK, they could have settled in the US where people of colour had also gotten rights after the civil war. And Jenny had enough family in the free world. She could also access her fortune in that geography. They could be together yet live with all the comforts. Away from the clutches of the empire. However, Bheem would never do that for Jenny. He won’t follow her blindly like she had followed him. What kind of love was this, when only one side had to give up everything?
Bheem could tell she had omitted a few things, but he got the drift of what was said. And how Jenny would have reacted to the whole thing.
He lifted her arms and settled her on the pillow on her side, facing him. Jenny held his palm & kept it under her cheek, leaning into it.
‘Is love always supposed to be this hard? Have you ever wondered why it couldn’t be easier for us?’
‘We don’t value the things that we get easily in life. Maybe that’s what makes this worth fighting for.’
She said without missing a beat. Without an iota of doubt.
‘People will never get it, Jenny. They will never understand. Even the ones closest to us. The ones who know us the best. The ones who love us the most. No one will get it. Can you live with that?’
She cupped his cheek and stroked his beard.
‘This isn’t about them. This is about us. They don’t need to understand, as long as we know where we stand. It doesn’t have to make sense for them, as long as we commit to make it work. Honestly, the naysayers haven’t felt love like this. That’s why they don’t know why we do what we do to make it work. Why the alternative is not an option. They don’t have what we have, my love.’
The confidence, trust, assurance and determination in her voice chipped away at his fears.
‘Will that be enough, especially if this happens?’
He stroked her belly while saying this, and she instantly knew what he meant.
‘Not if, when. When this happens. And yes, if our love is enough for us, it would be enough for the little ones too.’
His voice broke & she kissed his forehead, knowing fully well how much having a family meant to him.
But this time, while gazing into his orbs, she didn’t miss the emphasis on the words ‘the ones closest to us’. It took her no time to connect the dots.
‘Your tiff with Ram - it’s because of this right? He said something about me, about us?’
The pain in his eyes told her all that she needed to know. Despite herself, she came to Ram’s defence.
‘He loves you, Bheem. You know that. He would have said it with your best interest in mind. To protect you, save you from something.’
Bheem looked so appalled by that statement that she paused to reconsider what she had said.
‘By that logic, your friend loves you. She said what she said to protect you from what she thinks is not in your best interest. Do you forgive her? Do you feel bouts of affection for her right now?’
He shut her up decisively with his logic. She made one last attempt, because she could see how much this was hurting him.
‘Carol & Ram are not the same. We never have to see her again but Ram is an integral part of your life. This rift…will continue to cause you pain. Would it not be wise to just let it go, just this once?’
This time, the anger on his face almost made her retreat.
‘You are right, Carol & Ram are not the same. Carol doesn’t know me. Hence she has made these assumptions about me, about us. But Ram has seen you for months. MONTHS. He has seen everything we have been through. Everything you have done to adapt to our world. Heck, he has been my confidante through it all. If after that also, he doesn’t know my heart, doesn’t understand us, then he is much worse than Carol. A zillion times worse. When he disrespected our love, he disrespected me. He insulted me. HE HURT ME. I don’t give anyone the right to speak of you this way. ANYONE.’
His teeth gritted with anger, pain and frustration. Jenny scooted closer into his side, stroking his chest.
‘Shhh. I am sorry. You are right. This is between you and him. I should not have presumed to know the context. I trust you to make the right call at the right time. And, I am always here to support you in whatever call you make.’
His breathing eased after some effort, and Jenny leaned in to kiss his cheeks. He was still very stiff, though, so she decided to change the subject.
‘Being with you in this room reminds me of when you came to my room in Delhi. Gosh, I was so excited that day. Flailing here & there. Thinking if you liked me too. Or if it was all in my head. That day, after you left, I imagined what it would be like if you…kissed my hand. Or my cheeks. Or…my lips.’
She looked up to find him gazing intently at her.
‘I thought about you too, you know.’
‘You did?’
‘Yes. A few weeks after we had escaped Delhi, we were in a small town. Everyone had gotten a good meal that night & a comfortable place to sleep. They all passed out after dinner but my fears didn’t allow me to sleep. I was exhausted, had barely rested at all in a month. I shut my eyes for a few moments, trying to find some magic wand to bring me some comfort & peace. Then I saw you. In that yellow dress from the party. You were smiling at me & then you looped your arms around my neck. I felt such bouts of warmth & coziness in that moment that my whole body started tingling. It felt like a warm blanket had wrapped around me. Like 100 puppies were nuzzling into my face. Like my Amma was singing a lullaby to me, as I rested my head into her lap. I pulled you close and my eyes dropped down from yours, to your cheeks and then to your lips. I couldn’t stop looking. I couldn’t stop tracing them with my eyes. I couldn’t stop wondering if you would ever….if I could ever….if someone like me could even dream this unreal dream of…if gods could ever smile on me that way. When I opened my eyes, something had changed in me. I knew then….how much I missed you.’
Bheem wiped the tears that had involuntarily escaped her eyes.
‘You….never told me this before.’
‘I guess I was waiting for the right moment.’
‘Bheem. Take me home. I want to go home.’
When Bheem looked at her wide-eyed, she repeated her words slowly.
‘Take. Me. To. Our. Home.’
Home. HOME. She was here yet she didn’t think of it as her home. She wanted to go with him. To his home. To their home.
Bheem leaned over her & gave her a bear hug. A crushing bear hug. She struggled underneath him, since he had forgotten to balance his weight on his elbows.
‘Gosh - move Bheem. Do you have any idea how heavy you are?’
He realised what he had done & balanced himself over her but didn’t move away just yet. Not before catching her lips in a deep kiss. She stopped struggling immediately.
‘Remember this kiss as you think of us together in your room that day.’
They left soon after, spending the rest of the day in the city & the night in the safe house. Reaching their village early evening the following day.
As they walked up the mud path, Bheem admired the way Jenny deftly navigated the terrain, barely needing any help from him anymore. His heart swelled with pride at how much she had accomplished in a short period of time. How much she had given to be one of them.
He decided to speak to the village council to not wait for 3 months for the next auspicious wedding date. He didn’t want to wait that long to marry her. She had wanted to follow all traditions and hence wait for 3 months but after the last few days, Bheem just wanted to make their commitment final. To tie them together in an unbreakable bond. To shut all the naysayers up. Once she is his wife, he would dare anyone to speak of her, of them, the way Ram had spoken.
On their wedding day, he would also take a promise from Jenny that if anything were to happen to him or if he was in imminent danger, she would consider going back. He had managed to speak to Carol before they left & figured out that Jenny was considered kidnapped / missing by the British. She wasn’t a suspect. So she could always go back later, saying she escaped. That’s why he had taken Carol’s permanent coordinates. She may think whatever of him but she would be an ally when it comes to Jenny’s safety.
Bheem walked, deep in thought, almost out of muscle memory. But Jenny stopped midway, tugging at his hand which was leading her ahead.
He followed her line of sight to see Ram waiting there, at the edge of the forest, some distance away.
Bheem didn’t know what to feel about it. So he stayed still.
‘Bheem - C’monn. He must have been here since forever. He had no way of knowing when we were coming back.’
There was more to Ram’s fears, on whether Bheem was walking into a trap, which she didn’t know. Bheem also knew he wouldn’t have told anyone else and must be fretting over it all alone.
Jenny tugged at his hand again and he huffed in confusion. But in the end, he decided to briefly nod in Ram’s direction. Ram nodded back instantly.
And Bheem started to walk away, dragging Jenny behind him.
‘Are you serious? That’s it? Did he even see you? Shouldn’t you go over & atleast talk to…’
Bheem flipped around to give her a decisive look saying don’t push it. And that he would throw her over his shoulder & carry her back if she doesn’t keep moving.
‘Fine. Alright.’
She pretended to be irritated but smiled inwardly at his antics.
As they walked back, Bheem was convinced that his approach was right. This time, he won’t forgive Ram at the drop of a hat. Ram was not going to get away with hurting his loved ones thoughtlessly.
If Ram wanted Bheem’s forgiveness, he would have to earn it.
That's it on my angst train. Hope the journey was worth it. Pls do feel free to let me know what you thought of this one
Won't be able to write in the near future - work is crazy. Hope you enjoyed what you have seen so far.
RRR - The Burden of Atlas
An RRR fic after a long while. The last few stories have all been for other Charak movies.
This one is also a little more intense/angsty than my usual stories, though I did try to give a soft ending. Actually Hurt/Comfort would be a more apt descriptor. Let me know what you think!
The RamBheem here can be either platonic or romantically read.
///
Bheem's breaths were coming out in ragged gasps as he leapt over logs and darted between the trees, running fast enough to actually feel a burn in his legs. The coil of tension in his chest was wrapping tighter around his chest, compressing his lungs, and further diminishing his ability to breathe.
He needed to run, to move, to expel all this tension so that he could feel better again. And yet, each step seemed to have the opposite effect, blurring his vision as pressure behind his eyes transformed into tears, and the multitude of tiny scraps and cuts from the thorns and branches of the trees he had run past. He finally tripped over a hidden tree root, covered by leaves that had him crying out as he shielded his face from the worst of the fall.
He sprawled on the forest floor, looking up at the tall canopy, and the sprinkles of sunlight that were breaking through the leaves. The air was humid and wrapped like a sweaty blanket around him. Still, the forest was quiet, or at least as quiet as forests can be. There were the calls of different birds in the distance, and the sounds of smaller animals scurrying about the undergrowth. When Bheem closed his eyes, his hearing seemed to magnify, and he could even make out the buzzing of insects, and slithering of critters across tree barks.
Where before he had had so much nervous energy pushing him forward, now he felt as though it had all drained into the soil beneath him, leaving him lethargic and heavy. Given a few years, if he left himself here, would he decay back into this ground. Would his blood go back into the earth and nourish his brethren of wood and leaf? Would his bones turn to roots, and his veins into creeping vines climbing towards the sun? His flesh could feed his animal kin, and the rest could be dismantled by the flowers and mushrooms that littered the forest floors.
He opened his eyes.
Where would his rage go?
His joy?
His sadness?
Would they dissipate into the air, dissolve among the molecules?
Or would his soul drift whole through the atmosphere till it found another living creature to settle into?
A tear made his face down his face, tickling his cheek before disappearing into his beard. He didn't understand why he was feeling this way.
They had all been talking of this raid for months, and it had gone exactly according to plan. Mostly. Jenny had insisted on coming with them, saying no one could provide a more credible distraction than her, and while he and Ram had been anxious, Sita had scolded them both to trust the woman.
There had been a child, just a couple years younger than Malli had been when...
A little boy with a black eye, and bruises across his back in a facsimile of Bheem’s own scars. Jenny had stolen him away when the rest of the soldiers had been chasing Ram and Bheem down.
The boy had admitted his own father had been responsible for the injuries.
Bheem found it abhorrent, but violence from parents was seen all too ubiquitously. No, that hadn't been what angered him.
The boy had confessed the reason behind the beatings were that his father found him too soft. Too weak.
Bheem had entered the hut where the boy had been looked over by Sita and Jenny, hearing only the last few fragments of conversation. He had been his usual self, even if the rage had been simmering beneath his skin. Beneath it...till the boy started screaming at the sight of him. Oh, how he struggled against both women to get away from Bheem.
Bheem had been wide eyed as he froze in the face of the naked terror in those young eyes, not even budging when Ram squeezed in beside him.
Past the ringing in his ears, Bheem was able to decipher the mumblings of the still terrified but halfway soothed boy as him being terrified Bheem would hurt him.
And that... that turned the burning inferno building in his chest into a thorny typhoon instead, each lick of anger a sharp knife that tore through his sternum, breached his ribcage and pierced his heart.
He had turned and ran. Ran and ran and ran till he tumbled here.
"-em?! BHEEM!" Ram's voice was so deep and solid. It reminded Bheem of the hills, of the temple bells as they chimed with clarity and surety.
Bheem blinked heavily as the voice grew louder, barely flinching when the accompanying body burst into the patch of forest he was laying prone in, and dropped to his knees beside him.
A warm hand cupped his cheek, turning his face to the other side.
"Bheema?" Now Ram's voice was low and warm, like the embers of the campfires Bheem would create in the cooler evenings to rest beside.
With effort Bheem blinked heavy eyelids open.
"There you are." Ram said, a gentle smile tugging at his lips. Even the sight of the rare token of happiness on his friend's face did not provide the cool relief it usually did.
Bheem tried to turn away, but Ram's hand was insistent. "What happened?"
Bheem squeezed his eyes shut as tears filled his vision again, whimpering when Ram's thumb caressed them away. "I am so angry Ram."
"I know."
Bheem gasped as his eyes opened. Ram's smile was smaller, but his eyes were now filled with a terrible understanding that Bheem couldn't bear to look at. Ram shifted so that he was sitting by Bheem's head, one left tucked under him as another bent at the knee. He tugged at Bheem till the younger man placed his head on Ram's thigh. Ram began carding his fingers through Bheem's hair. "I don't like this, Annayya."
Ram's heart clenched at how young Bheem sounded. It had been months since he had called Ram by that term.
"What are you angry about?"
"I don’t know! Everything! The British, and the men, and the parents who hit their children and the ones who think they can kidnap kids, and cages, and fists, and, and..." Ram rubbed at Bheem's chest to calm him down.
"I hate that that boy was terrified of me." Bheem confessed. "That even though he was beaten so badly by his father, he would rather go back to him than be treated by me because he has been told we will do terrible things to them."
"You're not capable of hate, Bheema." Ram said.
Bheem opened his mouth to protest, but Ram silenced him with a shake of his head. "To hate is to destroy Bheem. To hate is the fire that is lit and burns and burns and burns. That destroys without regard for what is in its path, and doesn't care who it hurts. To hate is to fire a gun, and be bruised by the recoil. Hatred is a poison that is created in one's heart, from a rot that infects your brain and your perception of the world. You are not capable of that."
"You're so sure..." Bheem said softly.
Ram smiled. "Easiest thing in the world."
Bheem looked at him, a furrow between his brows. Ram reached with his index and middle finger, smoothing out the wrinkles. "You know Bheem, I often think of you are water. Healing and refreshing. Persistent and able to carve through rock given enough time, but also able to douse the raging fires as well as wash away homes if the deluge is large enough. But you are a little like fire too. I didn't know this before, but you will. Forest fires are often seen as these disastrous events but it is actually important that they happen no?"
Bheem was silent for a while, just listening to the forest, and taking in the man next to him. His even breaths, the heat of the thigh beneath his head. The softness of his fingers on his skin.
"Forest fires clear away old trees and detritus, allow for new life."
Ram hummed. "You are just like that. You never destroy Bheem, you clear away space for better things. You nurture, and guide, and protect. That's why you aren't capable of hate."
Bheem took in a deep breath before pushing himself up, shifting to sit with his knees bent, arms hugging them. He tucked his chin in the divot between them. "What did we do to deserve it?"
Ram gave him a confused look.
"The Britishers. They hate us. We didn't do anything. They are the ones coming into our home, stealing our children and our lives, claiming things for themselves that they have no claim over. What right do they have to hate us?"
Ram sighed, raking his fingers through the few dead leaves on the ground. "There is no logic or explanation Bheema."
"Do they even have hearts? They don't just hurt our children, but their own too?" Bheem asked, voice touched by a grief Ram desperately wished to take away.
Ram was silent.
Bheem reached out to grasp his wrist so tightly, there would surely be bruises. "Ram."
Ram sighed and shook his hand to loosen Bheem's grip, turning over his palm to intertwine their hands. He looked up at the canopy before turning back to Bheem. "I know Jenny has been sharing the stories she grew up hearing with the kids here. Have you heard of one about someone called Atlas?"
Bheem shook his head, confused at the non-sequitur.
"There was a civilization, people who lived nearly 2000 years ago in the West called the Greeks. They had this one story, a myth about a god named Atlas. There was a battle between the gods, and Atlas was on the losing side. As punishment, he was condemned to hold up the entire world on his shoulders for eternity."
"Why was there a battle?" Bheem asked.
Ram shook his head. "Doesn't matter. I am telling you this because Bheem, Atlas was punished to hold up the world for eternity. You? You are holding it voluntarily all alone and not letting anyone else help. You aren’t alone though."
"That's-" Bheem started, but Ram squeezed his hand.
"Growing up, I used to have some nights where I would wake up in the middle of the night, and my parents would be talking outside the house so as to not disturb us. My father used to tell my mother about his worries, and how no matter how much we trained, it could never be enough. After he died, I had all this pain and anger. I kept it all inside, didn't share it with anyone, not even Sita who begged me to let her in. I kept the fire inside me so long, I ended up getting burned from the inside out, so that by the time I met you, I felt like a dead man who was just alive long enough to fulfill his promise to his father.
You...you showed me that weapons aren't the only way we can effectively fight against the enemy, but that there are still things worth staying alive for.
But now, I have spent so many nights pouring my heart out to you in ways I never thought I'd be capable of, and you listen to me and help me. Despite all the hurt I have caused you. Despite having every reason to main or even kill me. You more than have the right, and if you ever did attempt it, I wouldn't stop you."
"Ram stop." Bheem said, voice fragile again.
Ram huffed, scratching his neck. "Sorry, I got sidetracked."
The pair sat in silence, staring at their hands. How many times had they held them just like this? How could they fit so perfectly together? Like they were meant to hold each other.
"You didn't answer my question." Bheem said after a while.
"I don't know Bheem. I don't understand how they could have hearts when I see the callous way they treat our people. And of course, there are exceptions, like Jenny, but even she isn't blameless."
"I thought you liked her?" Bheem asked.
Ram shrugged. "She's fine as a person. But can you really tell me you hold no resentment over the fact she did nothing for Malli during her time with the Scotts?"
Bheem bowed his head. "There's nothing she could have done."
Ram moved to sit next to Bheem, jolting their shoulders together. "Yes there is."
Bheem's fists clenched. "Of course there is. She should have done more to help Malli escape. She knew that Malli was there against her will. She was even getting her pretty dresses and toys a a way to appease her. She saw the damn cage they had built for her!"
Ram tapped at Bheem's fist. "I'm not saying this so you get angry with Jenny, but the truth of the matter is while she couldn't have broken Malli out, she could have pointed out to the Scotts that what they were doing was wrong. Or asked Malli if she wanted to leave.
But there's no point in discussing What Ifs. I'm saying that for the Britishers, even the 'good' ones like Jenny, we are little better than animals. It took Jenny meeting you and falling for you to realize that we are people just like them."
Bheem snorted. "She didn't fall for me."
Ram raised an eyebrow. Bheem dropped his head onto Ram's shoulder. "You know I see her as a friend. Maybe even sister."
"Fine, but she definitely liked you."
"And I liked her. Like her. She was one of the few people to show us kindness, and treat us with respect and dignity. That's all there is."
Ram bonked his head lightly against Bheem's. "Not asking you to justify your feelings to me, Bheema."
"I don't like to think about it."
"About what?"
"How Jenny could have helped Malli, but didn't. How I am able to sweep that away and still consider her a friend despite the role she played in that whole fiasco. Does thinking so make me a bad person?"
Ram huffed another laugh. "Bheem, if every person in the world was ranked as a good or a bad person, you would be the very last human to be called bad."
"Malli suffered so much Ram, she still has nightmares."
Ram sobered quickly. "I know."
"And Jenny just goes about her day here without realizing just how horrible things were for her. Is it really just ignorance? Or obliviousness? Does she not hear the screams? Or does she just think those are normal nightmares, rather than caused directly because of the cruelty Malli suffered in that mansion?"
“Where is this coming from Bheem? I’ll be honest there were moments when I thought you returned her feelings.”
Bheem shook his head. “I’ve been thinking this for a long time. Back when she gave me my first clue that Malli was alive, I was so grateful for that fact. And then when she invited me (albeit for very different reasons) to her home. Finally for her help in getting me the blueprints of the prison to save you. But…I don’t know. Do a couple grand good actions make up for months of smaller non-actions that perpetuated suffering and misery?”
"Only Jenny can answer those questions." Ram said quietly. "But you can answer me why you ran out of the hut so fast."
Bheem sighed, burrowing into Ram's shoulder. "It got to be so much. I was already angry at the sight of the hurt child, but when I walked into the hut, the look in his eyes...I saw that same look in Malli's eyes when Scott grabbed her."
Ram wrapped his arms around Bheem's shoulders.
"I wanted to rip the boy's father's head off. Reach into his chest and yank his heart out. It scared me."
“You would never do it.” Ram retorted.
Bheem hunched inward, trying to make himself smaller. Ram placed a hand on Bheem’s knee, knuckles brushing his cheekbones. “You would never do it Bheem. That makes all the difference. With your strength and your abilities, you could be cruel and who could truly stand up to you? But you don’t because you are a protector to your core.”
“I released a truck full of wild animals on innocent people.”
“They were Britishers.”
“Ram!”
Ram shrugged, “Even if you did, you also took care to try and protect Jenny when you could have left her to fend for herself. Or what about with me? You had the chance to kill me. Multiple times. And you didn’t. Not just for the sake of our friendship, because even if we had been strangers I don’t think you would have struck the killing blow.
You only ever fight, or kill to survive Bheem. Only resort to violence to achieve a more selfless end. You apologize to the animals when you need to use them. You thank the trees for their bark, and plants for their leaves.” Ram rubbed his nose into Bheem's curls. "Too good for this world Bheema. We don't deserve you."
Ram felt a wet spot forming near his shoulder, where Bheem had started to cry silently. He tightened his embrace.
"You are so full of kindness. You wear it like this armor. It's...it's breathtaking." Ram admitted. "You taught me how to live again. "
Bheem's breath hiccuped.
"But just like me, you are also so full of rage and grief. The difference is I let it consume me till I existed for a single purpose, and didn't care who or what got in my way, I was going to raze them to the ground and go ahead with my plan. You on the other hand, are so determined to do right by everyone, even monsters like me who hurt you, that you pretend that rage doesn't exist. It's choking you from the inside Bheema.
So please. I am begging you. Please. Let me help. Let me shoulder some of the burden, you don't need to carry this weight of responsibility or this anger alone. You are human and you are allowed to hurt and rage and grieve."
Bheem's fist grasped Ram's shirt so tight, he felt a few seams straining to hold on. "What do I do?"
"Can I repeat your advice back to you?" Ram murmured gently.
Bheem lifted his head, showing red rimmed eyes and a devastated face. Ram brushed away the tear tracks, pressing a kiss to Bheem's forehead. "Don't hold everything in. There are so many who care so deeply for you. We would do anything for you Bheem, so please let us help you carry your burdens."
"I'm the Protector." Bheem argued.
"Well then, you protect everyone. Who protects you?"
Bheem's expression shattered. "I-"
Ram gripped his cheek, voice fierce and unyielding as he said, "I do."
Bheem blushed, jaw tightening as he looked to the ground.
"I swear to you, for as long as I have strength in my body, and breath in my lungs, I will protect you. Let me."
Bheem cried out, throwing himself into Ram's hug, clinging to the elder man. Ram held him just as tightly.
Bheem lost sense of time as he clung to Ram. Words poured out beyond his consciousness, days, months, years of worries flowing out. Ram was quiet through it all, merely running a comforting hand down the length of his back and up again. By the time the words ran out, it was twilight, the tiny patches of previously blue skies not turned pink and purple. As Bheem quietened, swallowing deep breaths of air, he noticed several things. First, the calls of the birds had increased, the animals quickly growing accustomed to the new strangers in their territories when it became clear they were not here after them. Secondly, he noticed the bands that had been constricting his lungs as he had ran and fallen here had slackened, each inhale filling every bronchiole. Thirdly he noticed Ram had switched from rubbing his back to tracing designs down his arm.
The last thing he noticed only when he pulled away and sat up to his full height.
He felt a couple inches taller.
Like there had been an invisible weight resting upon his shoulders, curving his neck and compressing his spine.
He took some deep breaths. In. Hold. Out. Hold. In. Hold. Out.
When he opened his eyes, Ram was looking at him with fondness. But also a twinkle of pride that sent a wave of pride and affection through Bheem's blood.
"Thank-"
Ram covered Bheem's mouth. "Do not insult me by offering me thanks. Not when I owe you so much."
Bheem shook his head but conceded. "Fine."
Ram rose, groaning when something popped. He bent down to touch his toes, groaning again when something else clicked. "I'm getting old."
Bheem sprung up, laughing when Ram threw him a dirty look for not feeling an effect on his body. "Don't worry Ram, I can carry you back to the village."
Ram scowled, which just made Bheem giggle harder.
"Laugh it up, when you get old, you're getting no sympathy from me." Ram said.
Bheem laughed harder, throwing an arm around Ram's shoulder that had the man stumbling. "Sounds wonderful."
Ram sighed wistfully, looking at the familiar spark of joy in Bheem's eyes which set his own heart afloat. Bheem should always look this free and relaxed.
The pair made their way through the forest, Ram cursing and Bheem snickering at him the whole way back.
The small scrapes and bruises Bheem had acquired during his initial dash would disappear in a couple of days, and the hurt from the boy's fear would take another few days. But Bheem trusted Ram would honor his word, and really with a protector like Ram, Bheem could sleep easier. He just hoped that if there was a next life, he could spend it alongside Ram, and that it be a gentler one than the cards they were dealt for this lifetime.
After all, a burden shared is a burden halved.
hi hello im back sorry i didnt leave any comments but ive caught up with your story (staying up reading till 2am in almost one go) and holy shit? holy shit!!! first of all i love the setting youve created. and getting isekai'd into an isekai story is just. so galaxy brain. i love the characters a lot, they're all interesting to learn about, so i really enjoy that the pov switches around frequently. ypu make me learn more about them, to get to know them. see were the 2d manhwa archetype ends and the person begins. i especially want to see artesia grow, both as a person and more comfortable and happy. nobody deserves a gilded cage.
one interaction im really eager to see is caesar finding out about mally. in a way he did care for georgina after all, so mally being confronted by that is something im looking forward to.
oh and. deeply amused how mally manages to fulfill both shojo AND shonen isekai protag clichees: FL and LI mangnet and ridiculously overpowered former everyguy
sorry I'm barely getting around to answering this now. thank you so much!! Artesia is going to get some GREAT character development I sincerely cannot wait to see "her" level up as a supporting character. the backlog is nearly completely posted so look forward to that!!!
...
Y/N stayed with Lady Scott, even after Jenny asked her to join her friends. She politely declined Jenny’s offer, taking her place beside Malli who was, of course forced to stay with the bitch. She watched the party. She knew what to expect after the party Jenny had invited them to. But this even was completely over the top. The lights, the food, the fireworks. Her blood boiled thinking about the way her people had suffered to give them this kind of money and abundance. But she schooled her face into a smile, keeping her hand on Malli’s shoulder.
She watched as Lady Scott greeted her guests and accepted the compliments oh so graciously. She suppressed the urge to stab her right there. If things went according to the plan, she would have a chance to stab her and watch her bleed to death. Slowly. Till then she decided to imagine that scenario and be happy. Malli kept looking at her questioningly. She kept smiling reassuring the girl. All that was left was to wait for Bheem. She knew he should be crashing in any moment now.
“What an magnificent event you have put on-” A man told Catherine, kissing her knuckles and she smiled proudly. Y/N mentally rolled her eyes. She heard the gate open, her ears picked up the starting sound of the truck she had heard so many times before and she held her breath. She squeezed Malli’s shoulder, as the shouts started growing in distance. In a moment, the wooden gate was torn apart like it was made of cloth and the truck came to a stop in the middle of the party. Even though she knew what was going to happen, goosebumps rose on her skin as Bheem jumped out of the truck with roughly thirty wild animals.
Everyone stared at him in fear, as he landed on the ground. She grinned in delight. Of course they hadn’t seen it coming. Malli’s eyes widened as she saw her brother and she looked up at Y/N. She nodded at the little girl. Bheem shooed the animals way with fire. Within a moment, screams echoed from every corner of the palace as they wrecked havoc. Y/N decided it was soothing on a spiritual level to hear these bastards scream.
She held Malli’s hand and pulled her seeing Lady Scott being distracted from a guy getting his neck torn away by a leopard.
“Come on.” She whispered, as they started running towards the door, dodging the animals. She ignored the chaos around her, her only goal being taking Malli outside the palace gate.
“Where is she taking the girl?” A guy shouted, looking at them. She sighed, taking out the dagger tucked at her waist. When she heard someone charge towards them, she turned around, her blade cutting through the flesh of the officer’s chest with a satisfying noise. It had been a while since she drenched her dagger in blood. With another quick move, she pushed Malli behind her, slashing other guard’s throat in a quick motion. She wiped the blood on her face with the back of her palm and started running towards the gate.
She saw a tiger run towards them, a bit too late. There was no point in moving. She hugged Malli, shielding her from the attack and closed her eyes. When the claws did not scratch her skin open, she looked over her shoulder to see another guy in uniform holding a burning log. She held her dagger high, ready to attack when he turned around.
“Ram?” She said, surprised, “what-”
“Move!” He shouted as another animal pounced. She ducked, pushing Malli out of the way on the other side, as Ram hit it with fire and it ran away.
She looked in Malli’s direction, only to see the space empty. She looked around frantically shouting her name. But in the chaos she could not find her. She saw a glimpse of Malli’s braided hair being dragged away from her, but before she could run in that direction, Ram was already holding her wrist dragging her out of the palace.
“Malli! Ram, wait! Malli!” She shouted, but her husband did not budge.
“Ram what are you doing, stop!” She said, trying to free her hand from his grip. Once they were out of the palace, Ram broke open the lock of a shop, pushing her in.
“What is going on?” He asked, finally looking at her.
“What is wrong with you? I need to get in there-” She shouted, trying to get out of the shop. He stood in front of the door, blocking her way. He held her wrists, keeping her in place.
“Y/N, what is going on?” He asked.
“I need to free Malli.” She shouted looking over his shoulder, “You don’t understand how important this is for me and-”
“Akhtar?” He asked.
She stopped struggling, as she heard the venom in his voice. She looked at his face. Yellow light of street illuminated his face. He was furious. His knuckles were bloodied, just like his eyes.
“You know.” She said.
“How long have you known?” He asked.
“It does not matter right now- We need to help him.”
“How long have you known?” He asked, again.
“Ever since the day of the dance party. Ram, what-” She stared at him, “Wait, didn’t Bheem drop you at home? Weren’t you bitten?”
Brave is the heart that loves
@yehsahihai here is your promised fluff. Stop cursing me, now.
Ram x Reader
...
You barged into his house only to find him writing something on his desk. He turned around startled at the sound of the door slamming behind you. His face relaxed as he saw it was just you. He dropped his pen on the desk, turning to face you. You were mad, to say the least. You did not even look at him and you muttered curses under your breath, walking around.
“Hey!” He said, twirling his chair lightly amused at your mood.
“Stupid! I told them a thousand times before, but no one listens! How dare they! They thought they could trick me into THIS?” You snapped, pacing in the room, “stupid! All of them!”
“What happened now?” He frowned.
“What happened?” You asked, stopping in your tracks to look at him.
His frown deepened. Oh yeah, you definitely were in a mood.
“I will tell you what happened.” You said, gesturing at yourself. He looked at you from head to toe. You were wearing a gorgeous yellow saree with a green border. Gold bangles adorned your wrist and a heavy neckless rested around your neck. You would have loved it in any other situation, but today, all you wanted to do was throw it away.
“You look beautiful!” Ram said, mesmerised.
That made you even more angry. Because how dumb can he be?
“I know! I know, I look beautiful today, Ram. And stop twirling that chair, I am going to throw a book at your head if you keep doing that.” You glared at him. He gave you a confused look and did not stop.
“You know why I am wearing all this? Because my family is having guests over for chai. You know why?” You asked, crossing your hands across your chest, “because they are fixing my marriage to some random man.”
You had not told your family about Ram. You two were, well close. And you loved him though none of you ever explicitly said it. You both knew and you knew he was the one you were going to marry if you were ever going to marry anyone at all. You have been avoiding the topic of marriage altogether since Ram was busy with his work and you knew he would want to wait for a while. You thought they had given up, but no. You woke up that day with your sister ushering you to get ready. It wasn’t until you were all dolled up, she told you about the actual thing. You stormed out of your house and showed up at his place, not really sure what you wanted from him, but it sure as hell was not this. He looked so nonchalant about the whole thing and that infuriated you.
“Oh.” He said.
“Yes, Ram, oh.”
You waited for his reaction. He stopped twirling his chair as he stared at you. You waited for him to say something. To stand up and do something! But he stayed there. A moment later, he started twirling his chair again irritating you more.
“Han toh, what are you doing here?” He asked.
“What?” You asked surprised.
“Shouldn’t you be at your place when they arrive?”
You clenched you jaw as you realised what he was talking about.
“Right.” You deadpanned, “I should go meet the guy.”
“Yes, exactly,” Ram nodded very seriously, “maybe he is the right one for you! You never know.”
You fisted your pallu to keep yourself from punching the man you loved the most in the world as you put on a too sweet to be true smile on your face.
“You are right.” You said, “maybe he is the right one for me.”
Ram shrugged as if to say see!
“I should go home and greet them, serve them food and chai and get married at the earliest mahurat.” You said very cheerfully.
Am I obsessed enough to write this in an hour? Yes.
Ram x Reader
...
It was a fine day. The leaves crunched under your feet as you walked through the forest just outside the city. You had not seen Ram since the morning. When you ran into Akhtar on your way to the market, he told you that he hadn’t seen Ram either. He wasn’t at his home, not at the head quarters. That left just one place. The place in the forest, where he liked to go to practice shooting. You had been here once before, with Akhtar. But finding him alone was proving to be quite a task. Just when you were about to give up and trace your steps back to the city, you heard an arrow cut through the air. A smile took over your face as you walked in the direction of the sound.
A few steps later, your eyes landed on the man you were looking for. He stood shirtless, in the middle of the trees, holding his bow up. His other hand drew back the string along with the arrow. You saw his back muscles tense at the action and your breath got caught in your throat. His brown skin glistened in the golden sunlight peeking through the branches. From where you were standing, you saw him furrow his brows in concentration. You held your breath as he aimed. The string snapped into its place as he shot the arrow. The air around you whistled as the arrow hit the exact target.
“It’s rude to sneakily just watch someone.” You heard him say, as he turned around.
“I wasn’t being sneaky.” You snapped, taking a step out of the trees, coming into his sight, “how did you know I was here?”
“Your anklets.” He said, and you smiled.
“Well, I was trying not to disturb you.”
“What are you doing here?” He asked, taking another arrow out of the quiver on his back.
“I was looking for you to return this book.” You said, holding up a book you had borrowed from him a while ago. Honestly, that was a lie. You wanted to see him and book was just an excuse. You had finished reading it on the same day you got it from him. But you saved the book as an excuse for the day when you won’t have anything else, like today.
“How did you like it?” He asked, holding the bow up and loading the arrow. He looked so graceful that you had to remind yourself to take your eyes off of his perfect stance and answer his question.
“The language is a little too flowery for my liking, but it okay.” You said, bouncing on your toes. You saw a small smirk on his face, before the arrow left the bow and hit the target again. You were not surprised. You knew Ram was a gifted archer. You had never seen him in action though. And the god knew how difficult it was for you to process his words and answer his questions when he was looking like that.
He turned a little and you caught the sight of the silver Om on his chest. You suppressed the thoughts that rose in your mind as a faint blush covered your face. But he had caught you staring at him.
“What?” He raised his eyebrows teasingly.
You shook your head, looking at the blue sky, or what was visible of it through the leaves.
“You were staring.” He said.
“I have always wanted to learn archery.” You said, in haste. It was half true. But that definitely wasn’t the reason why you were staring.
“You never told me.” Ram said, tilting his head to a side.
“It never came up?” Your words came out more like a question.
“I can teach you.” He said, in all seriousness.
“Really?” You asked, surprised.
He nodded.
“Come here.”
“Now?”
“Do we need a mahurat?”
You rolled your eyes, placing the book on a rock on his neatly folded shirt. You walked upto him, thinking what you had gotten yourself into.
Ooo, that's really fitting for Malli. I like it!
@dark-twist-fairytales sorry for the tag, but do you remember when I drew Malli as a Sky kid? I decided to update it a little by using what I have in my wardrobes.
I’m planning on doing the same for the other Assassi’s, probably when the new season rolls around cause it’s got stuff that would suit them a lot, but what do you think?
#dont apologize for the tagging it genuinely makes me smile#reblog#malli till#henry stickmin oc#also sorry for the reply being short- at work and sinus are still kicking my ass-
