Chief Minister, Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif's “Transforming Punjab Agriculture Program” will be a game changer for agricultural development and farmers' prosperity. Minister for Agriculture, Punjab Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani

Lahore: 17 April:.. Provincial Minister for Agriculture Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani chaired a high level meeting at Agriculture House Lahore in which the plan related to Punjab Kisan Card and transfer of Agricultural Tube Wells to solar system was finalized.

On the occasion, Minister for Agriculture, Punjab Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani said that Chief Minister, Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif's “Transforming Punjab Agriculture Program” will prove to be a game changer for agricultural development and farmers' prosperity. 150 billion rupees have been allocated for the provision of interest free loans to 5 lakh farmers, through which 0.150 million rupees will be provided to the farmers (owners/tenants/contractors) for timely purchase of agricultural inputs during one crop season. Under this scheme, 5 to 12.5 acres Farmers who will be provided with farmer-friendly loans. Apart from this, 10 billion rupees have been allocated for the transfer of 5,000 tubewells to solar systems in Punjab. Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani added that after the conversion of these tube wells to solar system, the farmers will get relief from spending on expensive electricity units and their cost of production will come down significantly. Also, under this program, 7,300 water courses will be leveled at a cost of 60 billion rupees in the province during the next two years and laser land levelers will be provided to farmers for leveling the land at a subsidized rate.

On this occasion, Secretary Agriculture, Punjab Iftikhar Ali Sahoo said that digitalized loans are being provided to the farmers. Under this program the Agriculture Department will play the role of a facilitator and loans will be provided by Bank of Punjab through issued credit card. Keeping in view the available water and other technical reports, the tube wells will be transferred to the solar system. Apart from this, reforms will be introduced in the agricultural research institutes under the Transforming Punjab Agriculture Program.

CAIR worked on a bill with Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) that was recently approved by the House of Representatives in a straight party-line vote. Omar's bill would require the president to appoint a special envoy for Islamophobia. Critics of the bill, such as Dr. M. Zuhdi Jasser, warn that if the "Combatting International Islamophobia Act" is passed into law, the U.S. will effectively bar criticism of Islam and also find itself supporting militant jihadists who define any criticism of Islam as blasphemy.

In the space of three years, anti-Semitic terrorists have attacked Jews in synagogues four times. Two were conducted by white supremacists, and one was conducted by a black nationalist. Akram is an Islamist Jew-hater. The white supremacists who attacked synagogues in Pittsburgh and Poway, California were rightly treated as terrorists, and condemned from coast to coast. Their actions received massive coverage across the media. The black nationalist who attacked Jews in Monsey, New York was found unfit to stand for trial on federal hate crime charges due to mental illness. Black nationalists who murdered two Jews and a non-Jewish cashier at a kosher supermarket in Jersey City around the same time were supported by some in the local black community, including a member of the local school board. And Akram's attack on Beth Israel, of course, was mischaracterized by both the FBI and the president of the United States.

All of this points to a devastating reality. Jews in the United States are being targeted by three distinct types of anti-Semites. But they are only being protected against one.

The news did not make the front page of the New York Times the next day. It didn't receive nearly as much coverage on rolling televised news as such events warrant. Why? It has no political use. It's not on the agenda. The hostage-taker Malik Faisal Akram – shot dead in the standoff with police and SWAT teams - wasn't a white supremacist nor a neo-Nazi. He was avenging a Jihadi serving an 86-year sentence, who at her trial had asked that there be no Zionists or Israelis on her jury.

As for Twitter pundits, where the previous week people with zero interest in Jew hate were laying into JK Rowling over the question of whether or not her depiction of goblins in Harry Potter ​was antisemitic, causing it to trend with a hashtag. During this desperate moment for Jewish Americans? Crickets. The opportunists who used Jewish victimhood to attack a now controversial public figure had no business with this more prescient instance of antisemitism. Disappointing doesn't cover the angering sense of betrayal and abuse.

The message was loud. Nobody cared. If they did, they were actively trying to minimise or justify the attack. Some blue tick voices made it about the Islamophobia that may or may not result from a scenario in which a terrorist was potentially going to kill four innocent Jews. Only a month prior to this, Zahra Billoo, the Executive Director of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), had given a spine-chilling speech in which she warned against ‘Zionist synagogues’ and other Zionist organisations as ‘enemies’.

It’s evil that people have a hard time naming an attack on a synagogue an act of antisemitism. Wonder why a Muslim extremist would hold a rabbi hostage at gun point and force him to call another rabbi in a faraway state believing that other rabbi had some institutional power to free an imprisoned terrorist? It is because that terrorist believed Jews wield such power. It is because that terrorist spread the oldest antisemitic tropes. The terrorist didn't walk into a Starbucks. He walked into a synagogue. If this had been a Black church or an LGBTQ+ nightclub, there'd have been no question calling the act what it was. But Jews are not granted the same ferocious collective protection.

The media coverage of the hostage-taking at a synagogue in Texas has been predictably hysterical, Islamophobic and inaccurate about Aafia Siddiqui, the apparent political cause of the hostage-taker Malik Faisad Akram.

According to his family in England he has “mental health issues.” He was “said to have” weapons and explosives. He was “said to have” threatened the four hostages but everyone seems to agree no one was harmed. He wanted Siddiqui free from the near-by maximum security Carswell Prison; he wanted to speak to her. Under heavy criticism the FBI has said that his hostage-taking had nothing to do with their being Jews, “not his issue.”

The FBI on Sunday identified British national Malik Faisal Akram, 44, as the person who took hostages in a standoff at a Texas synagogue.

Two teenagers were also arrested in Britain in connection to the hostage situation, the Greater Manchester Police announced on Twitter. They were arrested Sunday evening, the police said, and remained in custody for questioning as of 7:00 p.m. ET.

The Greater Manchester Police did not name the suspects or whether they faced any charges. FBI Dallas spokeswoman Katie Chaumont referred questions to police in Manchester.

Dallas FBI chief Matthew DeSarno said the investigation involved Britain and Israel, and the assailant was focused on an issue not directly connected to the Jewish community. London’s Metropolitan Police said Akram was from the Lancashire area of northwest England and British counterterrorism police worked with U.S. authorities on the case.

Mentally ill people can still be raging antisemites. Just an FYI that someone can be clearly mentally ill and harmful to themselves and others, but that harm can also be specifically inclined due to preexisting beliefs about Jews.

The man who committed the Monsey stabbings during Hannukah in 2019 was deemed not fit to stand trial and was permanently hospitalized and diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenics. I happen to know a few people with schizophrenia who do not happen to be raging antisemites who keep journals about how much hitler was right about the Jews, or perpetuating some strange conspiracy about Ashkenazim being "not real Jews" even if the Khazar theory has no historical basis. But Grafton Thomas, the shooter, did. Regardless of his family asking people to get that he was a Black man our mental health system failed, which it did, it doesn't minimize the harm this man has committed by being an antisemite. One rabbi dead, 4 critically hurt, stabbed during a holiday party. The family argued that it was the schizophrenia that caused the stabbings, not Antisemitism, but that begs the question why he sought out Ashkenazi synagogues specifically (googling 'German synagogues') and why people are so quick to say that there is never any antisemitism in their homes, their communities.

Why is there such high rates of antisemitism in the US if no one is antisemitic, pray tell? And now Malik Faisal Akram, who was clearly in distress, homeless, and ill. But he sought out a Tarrant county synagogue, found CBI, and took people hostage, including a Rabbi he then told to call a prominent reform Rabbi like Angela Buchdahl.

Our mental health system (and Britain's) is a travesty, yes, but the idea that antisemitism isn't global, that it doesn't feature in communities both European and in the Ummah, is fundamentally bullshit. There's antisemitism everywhere, regardless of where it comes from. Anyone excusing actions that cause harm with things like mental illness simply do not want to challenge how accepted and normalized antisemitism is in the world around them.

DALLAS -- A man who sold a pistol to a man who used it to hold four hostages inside a Texas synagogue before being fatally shot by the FBI early this year pleaded guilty Thursday to a federal gun crime, the U.S. Department of Justice said.

Henry “Michael” Dwight Williams, 32, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm, prosectors said. Williams sold Malik Faisal Akram the weapon Arkam used when he entered Congregation Beth Israel in the Dallas-area suburb of Colleyville on Jan. 15 and held the synagogue’s rabbi and three others hostage, according to prosecutors.

Williams faces up to 10 years in federal prison. A sentencing date has not been set.

Williams, who previously was convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and attempted possession of a controlled substance, sold Akram a semi-automatic pistol on Jan. 13. In plea papers, Williams admitted to possession of that firearm despite his prior conviction, prosecutors said.

Akram, a 44-year-old British citizen, held hostages while demanding the release of a federal prisoner. The standoff ended after more than 10 hours when the temple’s rabbi threw a chair at Akram and fled with the other two remaining hostages just as an FBI tactical team was moving in. None of the hostages were injured.

Williams was arrested less than two weeks later.
