Alec: "What are you doing?"

Magnus: "Okay, I know this looks incredibly suspicious, but my kid put a bandaid on the crack today and petted the ground and said 'Don’t worry, Sidewalk, the sparkly bandaids are magic, so you'll be okay.' It was desperately cute, I made a video and everything. But now I have to repair this stupid crack, less my precious child stops believing in the magic of the sparkly bandaids. But I'm not exactly a handyman and I think I mixed too much water into the concrete and it'sall just a mess."

So Alec helps.

unfortunately, Alec has no idea either about the right porportions of mixing cement. they could google it, but... well, Jace worked part time construction in college for some extra cash, and Alec has been waiting for a chance to pay him back for that time Jace woke Alec from restful sleep because he was drunk and didn't want to pay for a cab.

So while a sleep deprived and grumbly Jace fixes the side walk, Magnus shows Alec the video he took of Madzie putting the bandaid on the sidewalk. They exchange numbers, and the next morning, Alec gets another video about a happy Madzie smiling at the healed sidewalk due to the power of the sparkly magic bandaid.

im backkkkkkkkkk!!!!! back with my recap shitposting (and will have a bitchfest probably the next one)

im not going to number this because it would probably be at 72918928 something but I do want to go over malecs first meeting (plus wonderful memes some talented people came up with)

the first meet cute plus MAGNUS CALLING ALEC PRETTY BOY LIKE THAT SHIT WAS SET IN STONE. AND ALEC IS SUCH A STUTTERING MESS

and it’s also very important to remember that Alec has never felt as if anyone would chose him. it’s been jace jace jace all the time. Alec is the one who pays consequences, who gets the blame, and who everyone counts on for EVERYTHING. so the fact that Magnus 1. calls him pretty boy 2. is making it clear that he notices Alec AND ONLY ALEC and 3. is telling Alec he finds him attractive is EVERYTHING

I just love how Magnus gets Alec. I’ll post more of Magnus understanding Alec in the next one

and I know I’ve stated this before but I seriously love that they upped the ages because could y’all imagine 800+ year old Magnus chasing not even legal yet alec? no because I hated it the first time

above some of my fav moments of Alec calling people out and not having it. and I love that for Alec. I love that he can stand up for himself and stand his ground. added a few of my fav alec expressions as well (I had to add the one telling Magnus he doesn’t get it because he kinda is calling him out IM SORRY)

Alexander isn’t just some grumpy moody law abiding shadowhunter but he’s caring, giving, and dedicated to doing what is right. and a lot of ways, he and Magnus are similar. I also love how matt portrayed Alec. he’s not biphobic, jealous of Magnus’s past, and always running off. I love that Alec is a great fighter and isn’t some guy in the back who doesn’t seem to do anything besides think and save jace. he’s his own person and I can’t think of anyone being Alec but matt. he really transformed Alec Lightwood and made him a fan favorite. literally Alec is an afterthought in the books and I don’t think some people realize how wonderful and exciting it is that Alec has a voice in the show

I also just realised that you mentioned the rookies and trainees actually meeting and all I can say is

Magnus: why are Max and baby Max levitating in the courtyard and eating ice cream??

Alec tries to act like he doesn’t know, while everyone else in the institute knows that, of all the trainees, Alec is the one Max takes after most. Alec just knows how to hide his menace tendencies.

Also, there will be so much chaos once they all meet. And I want to get to that part so bad. Like, most of the quick updates are me wanting to get to some specific scenes, the trainees/rookies chaos being one of them. I already have so many HC’s about them, who becomes BFFs with who. Who gets along the soonest. There’s even a crush involved that will most likely not make it into the fic but is there in my heart and I love it. All to say that, it’s going to be glorious and Max will change out his old nickname “Little Clover” for a new one “Blackberry” just to make sure he fits with his fellow Max. (He’ll still want Alec to call him by Little Clover when he’s having a bad day, though.) Which ends up devolving in everyone else wanting a berry nickname and being adorable about it. (The everyone else wanting berry names will most likely not make it into the fic either, but the Max part definitely will.)

Magnus is doing a double degree of STEM and Fashion cause he’s an overachieving nerd. Alec is majoring in Political Studies. Alec is always stunned at how Magnus takes on two degrees and a whole bunch of extracurriculars and is somehow faring better than him.

They met at the fresher’s college fest. It was not exactly a meet cute. The meeting in fact ended in both Alec and Magnus falling into the fountain in the college courtyard and a bunch of photos of the same on everyone’s phone.

It was another three months of shenanigans before they started dating.

By the third semester, they progressed to sharing a dormroom.

Magnus gifts Alec a coffee warming as a “moving in” gift. He ends up using it more than Alec, though - 16 cups a day as opposed to Alec’s 6.

Magnus uses Alec as a model for his fashion projects. Alec always complains, but secretly loves it.

Alec uses Magnus as an alibi everytime he organises a protest (sometimes political, sometimes because the college is diverting funds meant for other things to their sports team) on campus. It works, but mostly only because the college faculty absolutely do not want to listen to another word of what Magnus and Alec were doing all day and night yesterday.

They’re both the responsible one for each other. Alec reminds Magnus to study when he’s procrastinating, and makes him go to bed when he’s up way too late. Magnus reminds Alec to take a break when he’s too busy studying, and has to physically drag him to the cafeteria and back.

Alec convinces Magnus to come home with him for the holidays, and while Magnus is initially reluctant, he ends up becoming fast friends with the rest of the Lightwoods. The Lightwood siblings + Magnus is a combination Alec has come to fear two days into their very first visit.

On a random Sunday afternoon, they’re both sitting in bed, Alec up against the headboard and Magnus lying sideways on his stomach on top of Alec’s legs, both of them working in silence on their laptops, with two empty and one half full cups of coffee on the nightstand.

i really love show malec and so i headcanon them as that and don't have any plans to write alec smaller though i would considering and have writen magnus bigger due to his warlock mark?

i wrote alec super tall for a prompt for @saeths and i also wrote a giant megladon!magnus mer for them but i like keeping malec at least as tall as how they come across.

i know that in the books alec is shorter than magnus but personally, i just adore that alec is a bit taller and scowly and softens and submits so beautifully to magnus. all of that power and strength and training and he just melts for magnus and my brain goes a;ksjbaksdbjf;abf.

this is an absolutely fine ask btw! i appreciate asks like this because it helps me explain stuff and i'm also willing to work around stuff to try and incorporate things.

"I thought you said you had something impressive to show us?" Ragnor mocks as he steps in and plops in his chair, he stares over at where Alexander is pretending to nap and rolls his eyes.

Magnus stares at Ragnor and wonders just what is going on.

Alexander is curled up the size of a housecat on the windowseat and Magnus knows that he looks small, but he's still a dragon.

"Are you experimenting with reptiles again?" Ragnor asks, absently summoning himself a cuppa, "I thought you gave that up when you lost Baby to Camille?"

Magnus can feel the glow of jealous, accusatory eyes on his back and he blinks rapidly at Ragnor and wonders if he can get away with just summoning a scone into the other warlocks mouth. Anything to get him to stop talking.

"Ba-" he starts and there is a subtle hiss that only he seems to hear and he clears his throat. "The snake was merely an accessory, Ragnor. A security feature, hardly anything more than a sometimes useful pet." Magnus leaves out how cute the snake was, he doesn't think it would go well for him.

That seems to placate Alexander but Ragnor is sending him a confused, dubious look.

"Well then, what's with the lizard on your windowseat, hmm?"

"He's not a lizard." Magnus bites through gritted teeth because he can feel the force of Alexander's stare growing colder. "Ragnor, when was the last time you slept?"

"Oh a few days ago or so. Research and all that, you know how that is." Ragnor does look a bit peckish and the hollows under his eyes are a dark green rather than the normal shade.

"Ragnor-" Magnus starts and then he sees movement and he shifts, lunging forward to grab Alexander's nape with his maw. He instinctively growls and shakes and to his delighted surprise, Alexander goes limp.

Alec glares at the tired old warlock who interrupted his nap and then sighs, content as Magnus holds him close.

It's exactly as he planned and he smirks, smug from his position of being held and rocked by Magnus' mouth.

Alec smirks and, with a flick of his tongue, freezes the old warlock's tea.

The man splutters and gives them both an accusatory stare before his skin pales to a soft, sage green with fear as their eyes meet.

"Ducky, please tell me you don't have a dragon in your mouth."

Alec smirks and gives the lightest of trills and the warlock shivers, hands up in surrender.

Magnus chuffs around where he's holding him and Alec rolls his eyes, finally taking the force of his gaze away.

It's hardly his fault if even as the size of say, a lizard, Alec is too powerful for warlocks to gaze upon without fear.

... well, all warlocks except for Magnus of course.

because Halloween is approaching now, how about a meet-cute, where Magnus is taking his niece Madzie trick or treating, and Alec is taking his little brother trick or treating.

And Madzie wanted to go as the big bad wolf, so Magnus dressed up as Red Riding Hood. Alec might blue screen a little.

Madzie: "Hi Max! This is my uncle Magnus! We are going as Red Riding Hood and the big bad wolf! I'm the scary wolf!"

Max: "Hi Madzie! You look very scary! This is my brother Alec! I'm going as Robin Hood and he lent me his bow, but I wasn't allowed to take real arrows with me because they are too dangerous.. But it's okay, because we made the ones in my quiver ourselves! They have a soft tip."

Madzie: "That's cool. Isn't that cool, uncle Magnus?"

Magnus: "Very cool. I'm sure you and your brother had a lot of fun making these arrows. By the way, I'm sure I know this costume, but I can't put my finger on it. Help me out, Pretty Boy?"

Alec, who is dressed as Ghost Rider, because Max saw a movie poster and thought that bike looked a lot like his brother's bike and then annoyed Alec until he agreed to let him paint his helmet with flames: *Alec.exe has stopped working*

Max eventually has to answer for his brother, quickly throwing in that Alec is single.

Madzie: "So is Magnus! Uncle Ragnor says it's because he he always falls in love with the wrong people."

Max: "Izzy says Alec is single because he is a dork. But I'm pretty sure he is not one of the 'wrong people'."

Madzie: "That's great! Does your brother want to go on a date with my uncle?"

Max: "He totally does!"

can we talk about how much Matt adores his own character? like I have never seen him hold so much love for a character of his that I have seen for Alec. and his not as though he gets book alec- but he put so much effort into HIS ALEC

Matt: it’s not Alec’s fault if everyone around him is dumb as fuck and uses every effort to make him miserable lmaooo (HE IS THE BEST OF EVERYONE)

Matt: I know who this insufferable disease is (clary) and Alec will not stand for it.

literally Alec knows who clary is without needing to know her. how she only wants what she wants without the regard of others and how it affects them. I think it’s superb that Matt just instantly gets Alec (something even CC couldn’t do)

no because y’all for real, alec was so bloody miserable before he met Magnus. he’s hardly smiling, making jokes, being his sarcastic self and you see that shell opening when he meets and starts to fall in love with Magnus. but at least Matt took the time and actually made Alec better. Alec is done dirty in the books. literally the whole of Malec is done completely dirty, and to make matters worse- CC wanted to kill Alec off in the first book. you never realize how much you love of a version of a character until you meet a they were done dirty/what the actual fuck is this version character. and I don’t think the show gets enough credit. everyone (book fans) are always shitting on it and for what? because Malec is center stage? because a lgbtq+ couple actually matters????? because the representation for the gays, lesbians, bisexuals are ACTUALLY GOOD????? and I know it’s the tHeY dIdN’t FoLlOw ThE bOoKs We StAn As LaW BUT WHATS THE FUCKING PROBLEM?????? I would have quit the first fucking episode if it was actually like the books and the only reason I got the books is for Malec and my love for Alec, magnus, Izzy, and Simon, Raphael, and Maia. if I knew they were done atrociously in the books, I would’ve saved my ass some time. and I’m not sorry, but we don’t need anymore straight people centered abusive incest because they did believe it and still tried to be together (books) toxic mess couple characters type trope

and let’s end this with talking about Simon (don’t hate me y’all, but I have to add yet another part but it’s not my fault that season one has so much fucking content and buildup so blame them and not me) (and I want to talk more Simon and Raphael on the next one)

Simon is such a treasure and to me, so much better than the books. he’s a loyal friend and doesn’t get enough credit when he’s funny. he’s kind, caring, sweet (Izzy’s words later) and I think the buildup from the cute mundane nerd to how he adapts as a vampire is beautifully done. I don’t think they did his transformation as well as they could have but I understand not wanting to spend a lot of time on it

how he and Izzy are built up is great but it doesn’t work in my opinion in the long run. I stand by that it’s too rushed at the end and we don’t really see them date. he became I character I wanted to know more and I felt he’s much more interesting and pleasing than his book version. book Simon doesn’t exist- I said what I said and I’ll say it again

I can’t fathom how clary treats him. she is always ignoring him for what she needs. it’s very similar to how jace treats Alec. it’s almost as if Simon has no self respect to stand up for himself and declare better treatment. possibly, clary does care for him but I didn’t see that all season. I saw how she went and saved him but she went back to her own toxic behavior after. I don’t think she loves Simon the way he loves her (and I’ll get to that in season two) and in my opinion, she takes great advantage of him because she knows he will always be there like jace knows Alec will

and how can clary just sit there and allow jace to treat Simon???? GIRL THAT IS YOUR BESTIE. Im actually team Maia and Simon because I think that was the best for him and in season one, Simon does deserve better. Clary takes him for granted over and over again. I mean, I can see what was she supposed to do when Simon was following her but she is to blame for Simon being a vampire. I get wanting to keep Simon in her life but she didn’t think about what that would mean.

and that’s not even covering how she made this choice for him without thinking how he would cope with it- which I’ll get more into the last part

There weren't many things that could ruin Magnus' day. The world ending. His favorite show being canceled. Perhaps, Alec texting him that morning and informing him that he couldn't accompany Magnus on their date tonight because twenty shax demons had popped up. Or, Alec finds a way to apologize, even amidst his duties and the demons that he is suppose to be battling.

Flowers for you by @sugarandspace: Breaking my own rules by rec-ing two fics by the same author, but this author just has the loveliest flower fics.

Summary:

Alec is a Shadowhunter, he probably doesn't care about flowers, Magnus thinks as he's nervously waiting for Alec with a bouquet of red carnations in his hands. Slowly, he gets to learn how wrong he was. -.-.- Or five times Magnus gave Alec flowers.

He was too much of a pragmatic person to truly believe in fate and destiny. So even when Jace blurted those words at him as he stumbled into his shop, they remained abstract concepts to him, no matter how it nudged at the back of his mind.

Alec ends up spending a lot of time at Magnus’ loft, and with him come the flowers. A canonverse AU where Nephilim have a certain affinity for plants; and Magnus knows that, but that doesn't mean he was prepared for anything like this.

mini alec hiding in magnus hair during warlock meeting and huffing so much cause he want to go home and see his lil bestie!! mini alec shoot sparkly arrows into air to distract other warlocks so magnus get the message this is taking too long! magnus think mini alec arm crossed tapping his foot on table is just adorable. ragnor just roll his eyes and end meeting. mini alec grin and grab magnus pinku finger to drag him through portal. when they get home lil magnus have ice cream and crepes waiting in the mini house but mini alec so overwhelmed he tackle mini magnus with big hug. then they spend the night in the mini garden catching firefly that magnus magic up. all is well is mini malec world again!
