I published 13 new works and finished 1 I started in 2023!

That would either be Learning to Know - Knowing to Learn or Remember today you are loved.

Overall the work with the most hits is All Was Golden (clearly I peaked with my first fic lol).

If we look at fics I wrote and finished in 2024 then it would be Learning to Know - Knowing to Learn.

05.  What work of yours got more feedback than you expected?

Midnight scales and sunlit smiles - A short one-shot I made for @fuzdog for Fandom Trumps Hate 2024. I didn't expect that story to get as much love as it did.💜

06. Favourite title you used?

We made universes out of bitten lips and Remember today you are loved

Each time I can use a The Amazing Devil lyric as a title is a win in my book.

07. If you use song lyrics, which artist’s songs did you pull from the most?

The Amazing Devil. I mostly keep it to song titles, but I do also write a lot while listening to their music.

08. Pairing you wrote the most for this year?

Malec (not that I really wrote anything other than Malec)

Unsurprisingly the answer to that question is also Malec.

10. What work was the quickest to write?

A Sunday Afternoon

As the title suggests I wrote it in one afternoon. It was a Wednesday and not a Sunday though.

11. What work took you the longest to write?

Bridges Over Lakes Of Salt closely followed by Apollo: Blood Wars neither of which I've managed to finish to date. I hope to finish at least one of the two in 2025, but we'll see.

12. How many WIP’s do you have in your docs for next year?

Too many to count, please send help.

13. What’s your longest work of the year?

Updated/worked on: Bridges over Lakes Of Salt with 79,234 words.

Written and Finished in 2024: Learning to Know - Knowing to Learn yet again with 14,013 words.

14. What’s your shortest work of the year?

Yet Another Sapphire - 1445 words which is unusually short for me.

15. What WIP are you taking into next year with you?

I'm taking three WIPs into 2025: Bridges Over Lakes of Salt, Apollo: Blood Wars and Remember today you are loved.

16. What’s your most common “Additional Tags” tag?

Probably Alec Lightwood is Good With Kids because I can't stop throwing kids at him for him to babysit.

17. Your favourite character to write this year?

Magnus Bane and Alec Lightwood, although I also had a lot of fun writing from Catarina's POV!

Ragnor Fell, I feel like I just can't get his voice quite right.

19. What’s one pairing you want to explore next year?

Romantic pairing - not really any new pairings I want to explore

Friendship pairing - there are a couple of Raphael and Alec as friends fic I would love to start working on. The snark and salt is just too funny.

20. Which work of yours have you reread the most?

Overall it has to be a tie between Of Truths And Lies (even though I should probably edit it because it was one of the first fics I wrote and it shows) and Of Mistakes and Regrets (which suffers a similar fate).

If I pick a work from 2024 then it has to be Crow's no good very bad day

21. How many kudos in total did you get this year?

I have no idea. I checked on AO3 but it only counts the number of kudos on the works that were last updated in 2024, not the kudos received so I don't know.

23. Did you do any collaborative work this year?

Nothing that has been published yet, but I started writing something with a co-author that we plan to publish in 2025. (If everything goes well that is)

24. Did you write any gifts this year?

So Many! Partially because I had several people who prompted a bunny and I gifted the story to them when it became an actual fic. However, if we're only counting gift exchanges and so on, then I have four.

Twelve little kids went out to play - I wrote for Fandom Trumps Hate 2024 as a gift for @fuzdog. This was and remains my scariest fic to write to date, solely because the trainees are the "main characters' and I was really worried I would annoy people because of that.

Midnight scales and sunlit smiles - A fic I also wrote for Fandom Trumps Hate 2024 and that was also a gift for @fuzdog. This fic was fun to write because of how adorable tiny!dragon Alec is.

A Sunday Afternoon - My last of three Fandom Trumps Hate 2024 fics. This one was written for someone SandyWormbook and was surprisingly tricky to write for how short it is.

Through veils of mist and crashing seas - Yes this isn't the full title but the full title is ridiculous. Anyway, this fic was made for a Secret Santa-ish Gift Exchange called Gifting Gremlins and it was very fun even if I went slightly overboard with the metaphors in that one.

25. Did you receive any gifts this year?

I diiiiiid! Not as a gift exchange because for the Secret Santa I participated in I got an Alec-themed playlist (which was so goooood). But I got several gifts all of which were lovely and deserve some love so:

26. What’s your most common category?

27. What do you listen to while writing?

Depends on what I want to write - angsty songs for angsty fics, happy songs for happy fics, and complete ridiculous chaos whenever the trainees are involved.

28. Favourite work you wrote this year?

I don't think I have a favourite, I like all of them. Most fun to write has to be Crow's no good very bad day just because of how ridiculous and unhinged his POV is.

29. Favourite line/passage you wrote this year?

"Are you from Mags' glitter?" Crow blinks. "What?" "Are you from Mags' glitter," the kid repeats, acting as if saying it a second time would make the words make any more sense. "What the fuck's a Mags?"

What can I say Crow's POV is delightfully unhinged.

30. Biggest surprise while writing this year?

How much fun Catarina's POV is! I liked her on the show, but with how little we saw of her I wasn't certain I'd be able to ever write anything in her POV and yet it's so fun and easy.💜

WIP Wednesday

(on a Saturday because who cares)

I have been tagged by the ever lovely @foodsies4me! And, speaking of Foodsies, if you aren't reading their two most recent WIPS - omg you are missing out. Their Daemon AU (Apollo: Blood Wars) is so twisty and delightful and full of foreshadowing for something I still can't figure out just yet, and I love that I'm still on the edge of my seat every chapter trying to guess what's coming next. Their Arranged Marriage AU (Bridges over Lakes of Salt) basically just went down my list of favorite tropes to check all of them off (Misunderstandings! Good Parabatai Jace Wayland! HoTI Alec!) and is incredible.

Anyways, a bit of of angst has been requested, so please have a little snippet from the final chapter of Laudanum:

The loft is bright, the windows flung wide to let in in the late afternoon sun, and the living room looks so completely normal that it takes Catarina three full heartbeats to turn her head towards the flung open doors to Magnus’ apothecary and understand what she’s seeing.  His heavy oak worktable has been hastily cleared, the several sheets of parchments underfoot and a shielded light-crystal wedged partly underneath the central bookcase speaking to the urgency in which it was done. Magnus sits askew, cross-legged, at the head of the table cradling Alec’s head in his lap. Alec himself is on his stomach, clearly hovering somewhere beneath full consciousness, eyes clenched shut in agony, his struggles weak and uncoordinated as small wordless noises of pain and confusion escape his mouth. Catarina catches only the barest glimpse of liquid gold eyes as Magnus bends over nearly in half, frantically trying to soothe the wounded nephilim. "Alexander-" the desperation in her best friend’s voice pierces her heart, “all shall be well, my love, I promise, just hold on, my darling, Catarina is coming - help is coming and all shall be well, I swear it, just hold on, my love, please,-" And Catarina jolts into action, berating herself already for even the momentary unforgivable pause. A bare two steps forward and she’s in the apothecary, pulling magic to her hands and taking an assessment of her patient.  Magnus doesn’t so much as look up, acknowledging her presence only with a slight change in the distressed jumble of promises and pleas as he promises Alec that help is here, he’ll be alright now, help is here. At the other side of the table is a second Shadowhunter, older than Alec - maybe in her early forties - with her hair pulled back in a complicated plait and lips pressed in a tight, white slash across her face.  The woman glances up to assess the new arrival, her muscles tensing in preparation to act until the meaning of the change in Magnus’ rambling words sinks in and she realizes precisely who Cat must be.  Twin trails run down both pale cheeks as she holds her Head’s hands to to the table, keeping him from injuring himself further. "Please," the woman begs, but Catarina has yet to stop moving.

17. Share your favorite opening line

My favorite opening line has to be for the trainee POV fic that I wrote for one of my FTH fics. It was just so ridiculous and funny that it still brings me joy. I’m adding the whole song Julian -one of the trainees- wrote just because it works better that way, but here it is:

Twelve little kids went out to play,

Over the hills and far away

Their big mama bear Alec

He might just get a heart attack.

21. What's something that surprised you while you were working on a fic? Did it change the story?

Oh, I have several of these and yes they usually change the story either making it longer or changing the course for it entirely. In BOLOS/Bridges, Alec wasn’t supposed to get so close to the werewolves, but they all decided he needed some friends and told me to deal with it. So that has altered already quite a few chapters including the last one and the next one (that has been sitting finished but unedited in my drafts for weeks againavdbfjg’g)

In Apollo, Jace wasn’t supposed to find out about what happened with Alec and his daemon (nor was Izzy) so it also shifted some things later down the line, as in really shifted them. It’s why I haven’t updated that story really the past few months because I’m rewriting so much because of that choice he decided to insert himself in.

And, last but not least, in remember today you are loved I didn’t expect Catarina to have so much to say or for her POV to be quite this enjoyable, which is why the supposed to be a short fic ended up being longer than expected as well.

25. How did you recharge between fics?

I haven’t finished quite that many fics this year sadly - too many long WIPs that are too long. But! For me recharging between writing is being able to read or reread fics or books and draw/doodle whatever sparks my interest. I’m still not very good at it but I hope to get to a point where I feel confident enough I can draw my ridiculous gaggle of trainees.😊

30. What would you like to write next year?

Write or publish?😁

No, I have a couple of fics that are mostly ready and only need to be edited before I can start posting them - one of them being a collab fic with @to-the-stars-writing that of course stars dragon!Alec. I also have a social media/celebrity Malec fic I would love to start posting once I’ve made enough headway into the fic. (Yes, it’s the one I’m stealing your and other people’s usernames for😄)

Then, the obvious answers are also to hopefully try and finish the ongoing wips I already have because the fics I’m hoping to write are all on the longer side as well.

That said, fics I’m hoping to start writing/ working on:

The time travel au that has been haunting me for two years now

the Alec saves Ithuriel fic

A dragon!Alec fic

the Chaorman meow finds Alec to help Magnus fic

These are the fics I’m hoping to be able to start making real headway for in 2025. And this answer for way too ramble-y again.😅

Last song: Therapy a good friend got me into VOILÀ a couple months ago and I've been looping their music ever since (when I'm not listening to The Amazing Devil that is)

Favourite colour: Purple! I like any and all shades of purple

Last book: The Dragon of Ynys, I haven't finished it yet but I am actually really enjoying this little fairytale-esque story.

Last movie: My mom and I watched Loups-Garous (Family Pack) on our Bad Movies Tuesday (aka we look for bad-rated movies and watch them on Netflix or similar platforms) and it was a lot of fun.

Last show: I have convinced my mom to start watching Schitt's Creek, so that's what we've been watching.

Sweet/spicy/savoury: All three? I love love love spicy food, but I also love to gobble down sweets whenever I can. And savoury is just yummy.

Relationship status: Single and unwilling to mingle.

Last thing I googled: The opening hours of the fabric store because I need to sew some things.

The whole premise for that dragon!Alec fic was Alec being a big cuddly dragon that went SHINY the moment he saw Magnus and it was so much fun writing it. Just one big pile of fluff and cuteness.

Raphael and the other vampires' help made no sense. They just got rid of Camille, and she already created enough trouble for the Brooklyn Clan that they would want to keep their heads down and stay under the Clave's radar for a while—not risk their lives for a Seelie. More so given that they can't keep themselves safe behind wards or in another dimension like warlocks and the Seelie.

Luke and the werewolves made sense, given that Luke is Clary's dad and their alpha, but the vampires simply made no sense, so I decided to change that. So, I can only say that I have the same opinion as you have and I don't know why Raphael said yes in the series, except maybe Clary's speech struck a nerve because otherwise, it's just a big ???? for me.

In the show, the Silent Brothers kept the Soul Sword (probably for safekeeping? it was never really explained why, but I HC it as them having even better protections in place than the institutes given they live longer, are stronger, and know runes the standard shadowhunter doesn't). And, with Valentine being out and about, the Clave didn't want to risk moving the Soul Sword and having it stolen in transit, so they decided to send the people who needed to be questioned to the Silent City to be questioned by the Silent Brothers. Or that's how I HC it because otherwise, it makes no sense to me either.

I hope that explanation was somewhat clear, lol.

Remember today you are loved - I love the song I shamelessly stole the lyrics from and the fic is a feel-good fic for me writing-wise for some reason I can’t really verbalize.

24. Did you do anything special to celebrate finishing a fic

I haven’t finished many fics this year (not long ones at least, only one-shots). But I did get myself some celebratory hot chocolate when I finished my last FTH (Fandom Trumps Hate) fic within the assigned deadline.

I already answered this in a previous ask. That said, something else I would love to see - don’t know who would write it though I do know @dreaming-marchling (hope you don’t mind me tagging you) would be someone who would write this very well because Across the Lonely Decades??? Yes it’s from Alec’s POV but you see get the feel - is just a very long Magnus fic about his life and the different tragedies and joys he’s lived through.

Oh that’s a hard one. Mostly because there are so many fics and plots and themes I want to read. But, if I had to choose one, I would say a fix-it to the whole Cup-stealing debacle in season one. Or just a fic where Jace and Clary are the ones to reap the consequences of their actions because in the series Alec or Magnus are usually the one suffering those consequences.

As for best, I know so many authors who would do such a fic justice (seriously how are there so many talented writers in this fandom it is ridiculous…not that I’m complaining because more fic for me to read😁) I know @lawsofchaos1 would absolutely throw such a fic out of the park *cough* Laudanum my beloved *cough*.

I feel ridiculous recommending them because if you’re in the shadowhunters fandom you know all of these people because their fics are just all-around stellar, but:

@lawsofchaos1: anything Laws writes is spectacular but also will emotionally destroy you.

@faejilly: some of the prettiest words ever, I’ve said it a million times and wil do so a million more reading Jilly words is like reading poetry it’s so pretty!

@to-the-stars-writing: I love her worldbuilding so much. So so much. Also will wreck your feels as well.

@la-muerta who I just recced in October for the October rec list because, again, favorite horror fics in the whole fandom. And I’m generally a baby when it comes to horror but their fics and writing is just so good.

I already gave one example with the stabbing. Another weird topic was me googling a list of all the kinds of poison that taste good/sweet. Spend a whole afternoon and evening googling it which probably has put me on some list somewhere, lol.😂

I am a big foodie and I was hungry. That’s it, that’s the reason. 😅

🔪 ⇢ what's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?

❌🍅🚫 - in which I mean, there's no question for this, but rather than constructive criticism, talk about something you LIKE about your own writing, and/or something you feel you have already improved upon and you're proud of doing

The weirdest topic, or one of them, is how deeply a human can stab someone else with a pencil/pen and then try and extrapolate that to how much damage a shadowhunter could cause without killing said stabbed person or aiming for their eye.

Something about my writing I like. Okay that’s a hard one because I feel like I’ve been pretty stagnant/ haven’t really made a lot of progress. But, maybe that I’m pretty okay with foreshadowing? Mostly because I hate out of nowhere plot twists, but usually I think I do okay at showing/ putting in hints prior to the reveal. This does have the downside that I am not sneaky at all, but that’s okay with me.😅

I don't know if it's so much my headcanon as it's a general fanon but Magnus' magic is semi-sentient and it is as absolutely smitten with Alec as Magnus is. Alec in turn adores Magnus' magic. Also, it's my headcanon that Chairman Meow, while a normal mundane cat, is as immortal as Magnus is because Magnus got a bit too drunk and sad that one time before he was dating Alec and accidentally turned Chairman Meow into his familiar/tied him to his lifespan with his magic.

I struggle with writing descriptions and actions, which I am trying to work on. My dialogue can also be a bit stilted at times, which is also something I'm trying to work on.

I shortened this drastically because I started tagging all of my friends. So, to everyone from Discord who reads this, you are included but I didn't want to make this a mile long. (Aka Echo, my Varohbean, Sunshine, Lilly, Foxy, Hika etc. you all know who you are!)

Just know I love you all and speaking with you always brings me joy. Also, you are all so ridiculously talented whether it's writing, drawing or other creative skills. I have no idea how I got myself so many talented friends but it just means I get more loveliness to read and wonderfulness to look at💜

Now, on to the tagging!

First of all I'm going to be tagging you @goldendreams3 because, as I said, your asks bring me so much joy whether it is because of how funny they are or because of how cute and inspiring they are (as shown by the number of little snippets that have sprouted to life thanks to them). And saying something nice is quite easy, you're terribly sweet and horrendously funny (the only downside of your asks is that they are something too funny and I can't cackle like a witch while at work). Your Chairman Meow protector and Alec protector posts that make their way onto my dash are always a delight to read and I just think you're all-around great!

Other people to include is the lovely @just-add-butter who makes sure I take care of my teeth and am well-fed with daily adorable cat videos and gifs that I can use as inspiration for scenes in fics. (Or even an entire fic *cough* celebrity au *cough* lol). I admire how hard you work and how dedicated you are to your blogs and my teeth feel *so much better* these days! Three weeks of brushing twice a day and flossing, weeeee!

I feel like it’s kinda canon that random bits of mistletoe would suddenly appear above wherever Malec are together in the Spiral (in multiple foodsie verse)

Alec blushing everytime, Ragnor ignoring in favor of his book, Cat is giggling with baby Max + Madzie, Raphael rolling his eyes and Magnus half smug/half giddy + kinda shy in his own cute way :)))

The chance of mistletoe appearing is higher when they're fighting because the spiral will not let her favorite two people break up. Nope. Not happening. Other tricks include forbidding summoning and disappearing doors because if they won't speak it through by themselves then the Spiral will force them!

Ragnor and Raphael are bonding some more over how done they are with Malec. Max and Madzie are all too excited though. Cat is just fondly amused. 😂

I absolutely adored the new Bridges chapter, and I think Askel might be becoming one of my favourites. And I'm sooo glad that we finally know what the nausea is.

Idk why but whenever I read Bridges, I just think of how the trainees would be doing in New York. And my mind just makes these parallels between Alec and Aloysius, how Aloysius is the oldest among the trainees like Alec was the oldest among his siblings when their parents left them to go to Idris.

Ik Jace, Izzy and all the others are there in New York, but I just imagine Aloysius trying to keep all the trainees happy and safe now that Alec's gone, especially Max who'd be devastated.

Sorry if this got long. Not sure if this makes sense, and not really sure what I was trying to say. I just really love your fics and all your OCs!!!❤️❤️❤️

Hello! I'm having a pretty good day despite being mildly ill, so thank you! I hope you're doing great, too!

I'm delighted so many people seem to like Askel as a character. He has decided he's not going anywhere despite my best attempts to keep him on the sidelines.

You were absolutely right in thinking Aloysius is picking up where Alec left off even though he's not handling Alec's departure well either. He's been making sure that everyone writes with Alec or, with Clara and Steph who are still too young, makes sure to write their letters for them while they dictate what they want to say to Alec. He's been making sure they all keep up their training to show Alec how well they did so he'll be extra proud once he returns. He's also the one who started the countdown calendar where the trainees can all scratch off each day until they can see Alec again because to several of them, Alec is the only (good) parent figure they have: case in point Aloysius himself.

(Minor Spoiler) Thankfully, the trainees won't have to wait the full year. Though that won't be good news for Magnus because the trainees might or might not be holding a grudge.

Please don't apologize for having a long ask, I adore receiving them and you made a lot of sense because yes, that is exactly what Aloysius is up to!
