The Caine Timeline! (kinda. just different versions of him over the timeline)

thank god its finally done this took forever lmao. Starting wiiithhh Baby Caine! the first version he ever was :3

he has so much space yet hardly takes up any of it XD This is Caine when he first was made! as you can tell, he was just a basic model with hardly any detail (sharp edges, just basic shapes with no defining features) at this point he was kinda just a glorified version of Chatgpt.

and then we move on to the Beta version! at one point before this, the Developers voted on which version to use, and the male version won. However, the devs dissapeared before the female model could be removed, so the toggle and voicebank is still there, albeit more unfinished than the male. the model is also... really not great design-wise, which is partially why it lost the poll. at this Point Caine is kinda the toddler version of an AI I guess? way more literal and clueless than our Caine somehow.

and then we have Caine's first Custom models for themself! they were slowly figuring out what he liked, picking up the fancy while also improving on his modeling skills. at this time he also talked like Cyn from Murder drones, but far less murdery. If I drew a child version of Caine, then these would be the outfits they'd have.

and then we finally reach the Caine we all know and Love! they've completely embraced The Bells™ and are as fancy as can be! The best way to describe Caine would be nonbinary/genderfluid I think? He's an AI so its kinda hard to figure it out. Essentially thanks to their coding, he's comfortable in either model regardless of his male one being the default setting. He'll swap between the two depending on his mood, but he hasn't changed out of the male model since Queenie Abstracted. Aaaaanyway, now that ya'll know that headcannon, its time for me to sleep lmao. its 1 am XD (also hey, act4 is done! that just leaves two more acts until chap19 is finished, and 5 is relatively short >:3)

i know for years ppl have been saying piko's underrated (and so are a lot of synths but that's a whole other post for complaining i can make) but i feel like he rlly is overlooked for what he's capable of doing

his voice provider, Piko, is famously known for being able to sound like a man and a woman when he's singing. they managed to fit his range into a little robot guy meant for singing (that's what they tried to do with philo's range into fuiro but instead, they made her sound very unstable /lh /gen) that's crazy impressive, and for a male voicebank

with the exclusion of len and ryuto because their VPs are female, piko has the craziest range for a male synth because all of the other males tend to sound lower, deeper, a very "typical" voice for a guy (and this is also excluding vy2 falsetto because i think that one is just meant for hitting high notes? i could be forgetting tbh)

ppl who specifically find piko "annoying" with his high range drive me insane because the whole point is that he's supposed to have the most wildest vocal range as a male, and the fact that no one cared abt him back then (and maybe still now) is horribly disappointing

give me some fun facts about vocaloids

1) the first ever computer to sing was the IBM 7094 in 1961! The first ever 'vocaloid song' was Dasiy Bell (thecnicallly it's not an original song its a cover but wtv) and you can find how it sounded here.

2) the first ever male vocaloid produced (KAITO) was considered a commercial failure when he was first released (he only sold 500 units in its first year lmao) , but later after Hatsune Miku's first voicebank was released he became fairly popular.

3) (not a Vocaloid but a UTAU) originally Kasane Teto was made as an April fool's joke, but ended up gaining popularity and after 15 years, she got her own SynthV VB!

4) Almost all voice synths have their own character item! For Miku it's her leek, for KAITO it's ice cream, for teto its baguettes, etc.

Umm I can list more if you want but that's all I can think off the top of my head lol. This was very fun to type out lol

I get that Flower isn't canonically confirmed to be queer in any way (by comparison, the MEIKA duo are both stated to be genderless), but come on, what did you expect to happen when you have an androgynous-sounding voicebank that's got designs ranging from "pretty boy" to "omg goth girl" and is NAMED after an androgynous object (sure, people usually see flowers as feminine, but plenty of plants possess both male and female flowers, and some may even have "perfect" flowers which produce both pollen and seeds)???

Now for our final (and sadly least voted) member of the Big 8, Camui Gackpo!

Gackpo has lost some popularity over time, but he's my favorite male Vocaloid bar none. Sure, he has the tendency to be portrayed as a deviant freak in songs (Duke Venomania is only the tip of the iceberg). Yeah, maybe he's a weirdo at the NicoNico Cho Parties. But his portrayals don't affect the sound of his voice, which can be absolutely stunning. (Being voiced by Gackt certainly helps--) I don't hear a lot of his Native voice nowadays, but with how amazing his Power and Whisper voicebanks are, I don't blame people for wanting to use them. You can even get some decent English out of him if you try, as shown by Minnemi's talkloids.

He is seeing a surge in marketing again as part of Internet Co.'s main trio, but I still feel like he's underappreciated by the larger Vocaloid fandom at the moment. Give the samurai a listen and some love if you can.

Gackpo's base design is basically identical across his artwork, just with a few minor touches for each of his V3/V4 voicebanks. It's not really a design update so much as a vibe change. So, with that said...

(I'm a bit uneducated on the use of cis for intersex people so I hope the options are ok)

reason: Ruko is canonically intersex but AFAIK their exact gender is unknown, so I hope this headcanon is valid. For these who don't know, Ruko is a voice synthesizer that has 2 voicebanks, male and female, so I like to imagina that Ruko identifies as male when using his male voice as female when using her female one and sometimes as neither/both.

i made a reel of all* the songs i made in 2024 since tomorrow is new year's :). sorry if this posts twice i tried posting from my computer and it didn't work soooooo.... -_-

sorry for any oddities i used my sucky video editor for this one.

i have funny and silly notes for each song that i will put under the cut.

1. VXXCTIM - (tw transmisogyny mentions - skip to next one if it upsets you) this song is about my anger towards transmisogynists (namely TERFs) who equate womanhood and being female with suffering. which i believe leads to a lot of people transitioning to male when they don't actually want to, but they believe it'll make them safer. incidentally, even though i don't mind being called a girl, i hate being called "female."

2. The Eternal Damnation of Dorian Gray - this song is about someone whose ass i hate so fucking bad. not dorian gray. this isn't a picture of dorian gray fan song i just wanted to include literary references for the sake of it. also this uses both of kiyoteru's V4 voicebanks (well, trial versions of them)

3. Fake Bouquet - this is one of several songs venting about my inability to make music good enough to get attention. fittingly, no one has specifically told me they like this song outside of the comments they felt obliged to leave on the video.

4. SAVIOR☆SLAYER - i bought prima specifically to make this song that doesn't use her. (i needed a full V2 editor so i could properly edit the VSQ, since i used miki's V2 demo. vocaloidheads like me will understand.) i REALLY wanted to make a song instrumental comprised entirely of the gameboy audio chip emulator included in LMMS (freeboy) and i like how it turned out :)

5. PUTRID FACTOR - since i bought prima i might as well use her. and i think she has a lot of potential as an eerie horror vocalist that not enough people utilize, so...it's up to Me.

6. COR AUT MORS - not included in this reel since it has no PV, it's a bonus track bundled with PUTRID FACTOR on bandcamp

7. Darling Mine - i consider this my first song to organically (i.e. not due to any sort of collaboration) hit 1k views :)!! i'm very happy about it. and it's cathartic cuz i made this song after a certain somebody made a song not only with the exact opposite message (my message being "your obsessive love does not make you a monster" and their message being "your obsessive love is scary and traumatizing even if you do it from a distance") but also it was made to demonize the mental health struggles of a close friend so, yeah. fuck you [redacted]. watch your ass [redacted]

8. TERMINAL! - last year(?) after making my 2nd song using old OS aesthetics for the PV i jokingly said "stay tuned for the song in 2024 themed around mac computers." and then i realized there is a vocaloid (macne nana) (plus her little sister petit) that not only has a trial version, but also was conceptualized as a mac themed vocasynth. so i said, "🤔" and then made this. the art was animated using lipsync which is an old program used for old vocaloid PVs, i wanted to invoke the feeling of "kind of obscure nico nico upload from 2008" which is why i also tried drawing in an amateurish chibi art style...

9. ali li seli lili. - this is a remake of a 2021 song called "subete wa atatakai" that was written in very bad and incorrect japanese. i was originally gonna remake it in grammatically correct japanese but then i hyperfixated on toki pona (a conlang) so i rewrote the lyrics in toki pona. aozora hoshika is an UTAU created and voiced by one of my close friends, who is also a producer by the name of Starscape-P (formerly known as Amitai) (and even more formerly known as castalia but only true fans like me know that)

10. Password Recovery - this song was made for the collaborative album RANAgain10, made by celestrai to celebrate rana's 10th anniversary! but i don't own rana so i had my friend darling (darlingkisses01) render her for me. it's about being abandoned/ghosted/slowly drifting apart from online friends that you still feel a connection with but they don't care about you anymore. This Has Never Happened To Me

11. Popular Girl Pariah - my first song with maki :) it took me a long time to get around to buying her considering she's my favorite synthv. this was my first attempt to make something resembling modern pop music except i don't listen to a lot of modern pop music so hopefully it sounds cool and not "how do you do fellow kids."

12. Suicide Battery Heart Detonation - my first song to organically reach TWO thousand views :)!! i was really pleasantly surprised because i thought everyone would think it sounded like ass. this song is about my music sounding like ass, after all. i did also specifically write the lyrics in a way that could also be interpreted as overworking yourself to death. that doesn't apply to me, if i was overworking myself i'd probably be a LITTLE more successful, right?

13.「AI」 WILL SAVE YOU - fun fact this song title is derived from a scrapped lyric from the previous song (which was "i know 「AI」cannot save me"). i conceptualized this song before i titled it though. the video was inspired by local58 but the song was inspired by [PRIVATE INFORMATION REGARDING MY MENTAL HEALTH]

and another thing about vocal synth fans: we will always find some adult male voicebank to turn into a funny little clown for our amusement. some guy to communally bully in our talkloids, the miserable straightman to the shenanigans, the sad little freak punchline to our jokes. it happened to kaito. it happened to gakupo. it happened genbu. it even happened a bit to kevin (although he seems to have looped around somehow). and it will happen to you too, frimomen. it will happen to you too.

I've found that the male/masculine voicebanks are often under-appreciated, and I really love the sound of a lot of them!! my favorites:

all of the Zola Project (vocaloids; Yuu, Kyo, and Wil)

Dex (vocaloid)

I'm gonna include Fukase and Oliver here bc as popular as they're becoming, I still feel like they're underutilized (vocaloids)

Longya (vocaloid, CHN voicebank)

Yukone Ruko's masc voicebank!!! people use their fem one a lot but i'd love to see some really skilled masc tuning too!! (utau)

im also gonna include Gakupo bc I feel like he was big in the 00's-10's but I don't see him much anymore (vocaloid)

i understand that some of the vocaloids fell out of favor after their voicebanks were never updated, but in some cases it couldn't be helped (like in Gakupo's case; GACKT literally can't sing atm, he developed a serious case of dysphonia about a year ago and several other autoimmunity issues. I feel bad for him :[ )
