Essentially in this verse, there is a specific science division in Hope's Peak. That science division is tasked with the study of talent and how it translates in the real world, essentially, and they decided as a part of their experimentation, they were going to take the DNA of alumni they had on hand (the kids we know as the main cast from the games are now alumni by this point) and use it to create test tube babies that they could essentially use as experiments until the day came when they were no longer useful, at which point they could be terminated.

They didn't exactly count on some of those kids escaping when they got older, thus alerting the world -- and their unknowing parents -- to their existence. So now there's a whole bunch of kids who need taking care of, by parents who have families of their own (and often not with the other parent of their test tube child) and a whole bunch of problems to worry about. Oh, and a lot of the kids have supernatural abilities thanks to the testing that was done on them, so there's that too!

Basically, Hope's Peak Science Division is fucked up and did fucked up things and now the alumni and the next gen kids have to deal with what's going on. It'll likely be a mix of a comic/art series as well as a written series when I do it, after I get the main kid profiles up and running. This au also deals with kids from SDRA2 characters! But not DRA cause I haven't really been able to find much on that game yet that's been reliably translated. Sorry about that, fellas.

As for the test tube kids, those will be revealed in due time! However, I can give you the names of three very important ones:

All I'll say is that those three play a really big crucial role in the story. You'll just have to follow along for the rest!

You could also not make a harem instead. I can buy a three poly relationship like Yuki x Sora x Yoruko, but Yuki/Makoto/Hajime/Shuichi x almost every female character feels forced, unrealistic and ooc. Are you telling me that those girls can’t, I don’t know, brush off their crush on the protagonist and move on to other people? Also the Kanade writing is the definition of Draco in Leatherpants. Forget redemption arcs, they’re boring and overrated.

//That’s fair ^^’, but I don’t think there’s much I can do about Kanade now except for restarting this whole blog, which I don’t plan to, at least right now. Maybe after this is done I’ll remake it to be more inline with the characters. As for your first point, that’s really just Yuki. Shuichi is just Himiko (Kaede and Tenko I’m still on the fence on whether to put them together or do something else with ‘em), Hajime’s is Chiaki, Sonia, Hiyoko, Mikan, and Mahiru, with all 5 showing hints of liking him in their Island Mode ending, and Makoto is only Aoi, Kyoko and Sayaka. I will admit I went a bit overboard with Yuki.//

ASOOT Timeline: September 2012 (Boomers, Visions, and the Worst Day Ever)

Hello, everyone, and welcome to our last few (relatively) peaceful days before everything gets all Stormy.–Timeline Anon

September 11: Kokoro and Yoruko tell Hajime and Umeko about Mikako’s possibly prophetic dreams. Umeko theorizes that Mikako could be recalling information via a tachyonic antitelephone that can send the information back through time in a form of precognitive dreaming, although she admits that she needs to do more research. She and Kokoro will look into this, while Hajime’s priorities are finding out who coordinated with the police to cause the prison break and Kanade’s escape, as well as where Maverick is.

September 17: It’s Ayame’s birthday. She turns 15. Taira celebrates with her and also gets to meet her parents.

September 18: Kakeru and Midori visit Setsuka, Umeko, and the Warriors of Hope. The children play Clue, and Midori proves herself to be a master of board games.

September 24:

It’s been two weeks since the prison break, and the Quantum Crew still hasn’t learned anything new about who caused it, where Maverick is, or what’s up with Mikako. However, a discarded prison outfit with Maverick’s number on it has been found in a dumpster in Akihabara.

Taira is no longer employed by the Togamis; instead, she has a new part-time job at a supermarket. Her job includes a barista post at the coffee kiosk in the store. Nikei comes in to get some coffee, and they chat about her progressing relationship with Ayame (which may or may not include some flirting now) while Sora indulges vicariously in her love of bitter coffee. Talk turns to the future Ultimate Lucky Student of Class 79, Yuki Maeda, who has made several appearances at Taira’s supermarket recently to buy Momonoki man chocolates. Sora, who still feels protective over her old friend, will keep an eye on him.

Iroha and Makoto have been on three dates and are pretty much an official couple. Maku, Emma, and Jataro (who is learning how to apply makeup) give Iroha a “beauty upgrade” and listen to her gush about Makoto. They are having another date tonight at Makoto’s house to watch Sayaka Maizono’s concert on TV (which is a benefit concert for the Rebuild Akihabara Fund). Emma talks to her agent and adoptive parents on the phone and lets them know that she’s okay, then lends Iroha some blue lipstick for the occasion. Everyone wishes Iroha luck, and she cheerily skips all the way to the bus stop.

Mikan submitted her adoption form for Kotoko about a month ago, but she hasn’t heard anything back yet. Setsuka reassures Kotoko that the agency will certainly let them know soon. Also, the Warriors of Hope have been told about the Tragedy/time travel/etc. 

Kyoji, Monaca, and Kanade have developed into their own little family. Kyoji gives Kanade some new clothes that Hibiki bought for her. He’s still too ashamed of himself to resume contact with Miaya, especially now that Maverick’s on the loose, but Monaca and Kanade encourage him to consider her feelings and to make things right with her instead of stewing in self-loathing. He resolves to visit her as soon as he can. That settled, they all watch horror movies together.

The two unknown time travelers have not deviated from their usual patterns of movement. Umeko is monitoring them via her long-range detector.

Syobai calls Yoruko and tells her that he’s found the home address of Minako Tomori in Takayama. Yoruko is then visited by Mikan and Hibiki; it seems that the Cuddle Puddle is making plans to have sex on each of their 18th birthdays, and they’d like some advice about it. After making sure that it’s something they genuinely want, Yoruko counsels them not to worry about making it the best thing in the world and to focus on staying safe and having fun.

Hiyoko is taking Hajime to meet her grandmother, Izumi Saionji, in Kyoto. They hope to win Izumi’s approval of their relationship and maybe even work out a way for Hiyoko to see her parents again. Hiyoko advises Hajime to be polite, not to show any weaknesses, not to argue with her, and not to let her get to him. After saying goodbye to the rest of the Cuddle Puddle, they depart on a six-hour limo trip to Izumi’s house.

Kokoro and Umeko go to the Kisaragi household to check on Mikako. When they get there, they are greeted by a frantic Yamato, who explains that Mikako locked herself in her room and has been screaming, crying, and praying since last night. The group rushes to Mikako’s room and tries to coax her out, but when Umeko detects a small impulse of tachyon energy, they’re forced to break down the door. There, they find Mikako on her bed, crying and praying while clutching her necklace, surrounded by her drawings of the world on fire that are straight out of the Tragedy timeline. Everyone comforts her, Kokoro gives her some anxiolytic to help her calm down, and Umeko tells the Kisaragis that Mikako’s dreams are of the future. Kokoro and Umeko don’t talk about Kasugano, as Kokoro wants to keep her daughter safe, so they only say that they’re trying to put together a timeline of the Tragedy future in order to change it. After Umeko explains all the science, Mikako agrees to run some experiments with Kokoro and Umeko to learn how her new powers work.

At noon, Hajime and Hiyoko arrive at the Saionji mansion, and Hajime meets Izumi for the first time. He manages to give off a halfway-decent first impression, but he and Hiyoko have a hard time enduring Izumi’s racist, classist remarks. Izumi announces that they will be having dinner tonight with some guests, and she orders Hajime to make himself look presentable. Once she’s gone, Hiyoko apologizes to Hajime for her grandmother’s attitude. The pair get changed into the nice clothes that have been provided for them, and she shows him around the mansion. 

During Taira’s break, she, Sora, and Nikei go to the local Farbucks to try a special coffee called Liquid Cocaine. Sora tells Taira and Nikei about Yuki, her friendship with him in the Tragedy timeline, and her wish for him to have a normal life like he wanted. She worries that because her protectiveness of him was programmed into her code by Mikado, she might only care about him because she doesn’t have a choice, but Taira reminds her that she broke free of her programming shackles and still fought to save Yuki afterwards, meaning that her unconditional love for him is real. Sora gives Taira her blessing to date Yuki if things go that way in the future. Both Taira and Nikei admit to finding Yuki cute, although when Taira asks Nikei if he’s into guys, he gets cagey and doesn’t want to talk about it right now. Taira hugs Sora through the phone.

Kyoji and Kazuichi stop by the Void Warehouse. Kazuichi fixes the lights in the roof and nearly gets attacked by a bird while he’s at it. He mentions that he and Chihiro are thinking about building a robot together. Kyoji, who has brought a box of medicines and bandages, tells Maku and Emma another story about Maverick; he had a girlfriend named Haley Arai for a few years before he went to Hope’s Peak, but their relationship ended after he convinced her brother to engage in a school shooting, which left her paralyzed. It’s abundantly clear by now that Maverick is a sadistic man whose motives seem to be “because it’s fun.” Kyoji is focused on protecting everyone from him, so he asks to be told if anyone sees anything weird.

Gundham stays vigilant for any sign of Maverick, as he is worried about the potential danger posed to his friends and partners (he’s mostly integrated into the Cuddle Puddle at this point). Hibiki hugs him and assures him that he doesn’t have to fight alone. When Gundham wonders why the rest of the Cuddle Puddle accepts him so easily, Hibiki asks him about his past. In his typical Gundham style, Gundham explains that his father abandoned him and his mother, both families rejected them, and although his mom was a good mom who helped him discover his passion for animals, she died of an illness two years ago. As such, he thought he would always be alone, but Hibiki tells him that he’s loved by the Cuddle Puddle and that he shouldn’t isolate himself from them. They have a tender moment, then go to play games with the others. Also, Mikan finds a brochure in the mail for a place called Sunny Days Vacation Island, causing the Cuddle Puddle to consider the idea of taking a vacation at some point.

Iroha and Komaru prepare to watch Sayaka’s concert while waiting for Makoto to come home from school. Komaru, being a Sayaker, is of course very excited. Iroha is also excited, and since she knows that Sayaka will be one of the girls who develops feelings for Makoto in the future, she’s already dreaming of a Cuddle Puddle-esque polyamorous relationship involving her (plus the three other girls who will like Makoto). However, Iroha also knows that Makoto’s worst day ever is today, so he’ll probably miss the concert. She plans to comfort him when he gets home.

Makoto takes a different route home from school. He’s in a good mood and is looking forward to seeing Sayaka’s concert with Iroha and Komaru. Unfortunately, a series of unlucky events happen to him. He loses a game of rock-paper-scissors, so he has to buy food for his friends, but his bag rips open and sends all the food into the street. Kazuo Tengan drinks one of his coffee cans and tells him that no one has control over their fate. Then, they both end up on a bus that is taken hostage by a jewel thief named Jutarou Akafuku after Makoto accidentally exposes his stolen jewels. Kazuo fights Jutarou, Makoto manages to step on the brakes, and Jutarou tries to escape on a mailman’s motorbike, only to crash it as a result of an aluminum can that Makoto failed to pick up earlier. All of the mailman’s letters are destroyed in the explosion, including the letter to the original Ultimate Lucky Student of Class 78, ensuring that Makoto will be the Lucky Student and go to Hope’s Peak. Nearby, Taira and Sora realize that the Ankle Effect is not actively seeking to make the Quantum Crew’s lives miserable, but only wants everything to happen as it did in the Tragedy timeline.

It’s time for dinner at the Saionji household, and the mystery guests are Hiyoko’s Aunt Momoko and her husband Teru. (Momoko is actually a first cousin once removed, but she’s called Aunt Momoko.) At dinner, Hajime and Hiyoko tell the story of how they got together, and it comes out that Saionji women are expected to find husbands by around 18 or 19. The conversation goes belly-up when Izumi disapproves of Hajime’s social status. This causes an argument between everyone at the table, and Izumi threatens to pull Hiyoko out of Hope’s Peak. Momoko and Teru send Hiyoko and Hajime to their rooms while they try to talk some sense into Izumi, then go to give encouragement to the young lovers. Hajime and Hiyoko take a bath together.

Umeko tells Mikako about the quantum physics behind her new powers and also about time travel. Mikako experiments by looking about five to ten years into the future, and she shows Kokoro a vision where Kokoro and a grown-up Kanata are with a teenage Kotoko and a little girl named Sayuri Hinata, the future daughter of Hajime and Hibiki. Mikako suffers some mild seizures from the side effects of future-seeing, but other than that, things look good. Kokoro calls Iroha and asks her to draw pictures of Sayuri, teenage Kotoko, and grown-up Kanata. Mikako has just enough strength left to show Yamato a vision of himself hanging out with their future classmates.

Emma is thinking about having her adoptive parents adopt Masaru as well.

Sayaka’s concert starts. Iroha and Komaru watch it by themselves, since Makoto’s still stuck at the police station after his terrible day. They enjoy it very much. Komaru goes to check the mail in the middle of it, and just as Sayaka announces that she will be part of Class 78, Komaru finds a Hope’s Peak acceptance letter addressed to Makoto. The girls rejoice, and when Makoto returns from the police station, Komaru shares the happy news with him. After celebrating with his family, Makoto goes up to his room to find Iroha on his bed, surrounded by dandelion petals that she picked herself. They cuddle and kiss together in bed as Makoto tells Iroha about his day. She stays the night.

Hiyoko and Hajime wait for Izumi to make up her mind while chatting about whether or not they can (or should) get married. Eventually, Hiyoko is called to see her grandmother. When Izumi asks Hiyoko why she wants a romance with Hajime despite his status, Hiyoko argues that it’s not the Tokugawa Period anymore, that character matters more than class, and that although tradition is important, the Sainoji Clan needs to change and evolve with the times or else be left behind. Izumi decides to sleep on this and make her decision in the morning. Hiyoko and Hajime end the night by snuggling together on the futon.

Connections Review Part 2

This isn’t your average Love Hotel Event, this is an ADVANCED Love Hotel Event

Here we go people, we have returned and now it’s time for the next part of the review of Connections! Last time was quickly reviewing stuff that didn’t warrant its own part and all the time travelling discoveries into the Ultimate Seer Mikako, she is the Ultimate Seer now, not the Ultimate Exorcist, and some interesting visions. And in this part, we cover the stuff that everyone likes to talk about which is Harems! Whether it be Cuddle Puddle, Hotel Akane or Makoto’s currently unnamed Harem. Point is this Blog is a goldmine for Poly relationships and let the looovvveee spread! So, time for some fluffy reviews~

I’ll start with the only established harem at this point in time which is the Cuddle Puddle! Hotel Akane is planned for but still in development and we don’t even know if Makoto will be willing to go for a harem. So, the big major event which happens here is Hajime fixing the issues with Hiyoko’s family. She has serious issues with her grandmother as she forbids her from seeing her parents, and while Hiyoko can’t give a rat’s arse about her mother, she very much cares about her father, and as heir of her clan, Hiyoko has to marry a man of suitable status which Hajime doesn’t fulfil. So, with Izumi summoning Hiyoko back home to have a talk, Hajime joins her in order to try and get the racist boomer to approve of their relationship, and allow Hiyoko to see her parents, or her father to be more precise. This was a welcome relief mission because having fought two serial killers, busted a human trafficking ring and about to fight a cult, just talking to a racist problematic member of one of his girlfriend’s family is a very light mission for Hajime. Plus, because we all don’t like boomers having a boomer being called out for their racist and out of touch ways is catharsis at best. It helps that not all of the Sannoji family is completely terrible as Monoko and Teru, relatives of Hiyoko were more open minded, and agreed with Hiyoko and Hajime’s sentiments and if they weren’t there, I don’t think the meeting with Izumi would have gone well.

Thankfully, Hajime & Hiyoko, with the help of Momoko and Teru, were able to get Izumi to bless their relationship and since Sannoijis marry young, as soon as Hiyoko graduates, or ‘graduates’ because remember Hopes Peak Academy will only remain open for as long as Junko lurks and as soon as she’s defeated, Nikei’s article on why Hope’s Peak Academy is twisted and corrupted will be put up and the school won’t last long, she wants to marry Hajime. This brings up a legal problem with the Cuddle Puddle as Poly relationships are illegal in Japan, in fact I think they’re illegal in a lot of countries. Novoselic which is Sonia’s kingdom its legal, but Sonia can’t ask for everyone to uproot their lives and move there. The temporary solution is for everyone not named Sonia and Gundham to legally change their last name to Hinata, Hajime marries Hiyoko and when Kiyotaka becomes Prime Minister and he legalizes Poly Marriage, marry the other girls then. That’s a long-term solution though.

As for the rest of the Cuddle Puddle, they are bonding well. Gundham got a bit of focus on this Arc and I’m glad for it. The biggest issues with the Cuddle Puddle as it is very Hajime-centric but we don’t see how the girls interact with each other or even Gundham as he’s the other male in the harem as well. Gundham himself doesn’t get many interactions aside from Hajime and Sonia, so seeing him open up to Hibiki about his past and she comforting his worries about Storm is heart-warming. I always knew that Hibiki had a strong liking for Gundham as even back during the Concert Arc when Sonia and Gundham met the Otonokoji twins on their independent mission to find the ‘stalker’ of them, Hibiki took a liking to Gundham’s Chuunibyou nature almost immediately, and given all the growth that Hibiki has gone through since then, she is now in a position to comfort others much like how she was comforted by them. Gundham’s backstory is the usual brand of familial outcast and a devoted mother who gave her life into Gundham that too many people in the Quantum Crew have. Kodaka did say one of the pillars of being a Danganronpa character is having a broken family and it shows.

While the Cuddle Puddle got some development, it won’t be the only harem this blog has so let’s look at the founding of a new one, which is Hotel Akane. It’s an unofficial rule that the protagonists of the Killing Games get their own harems, but Sora doesn’t want a harem as she is content with having a relationship with just Yoruko so she transferred her ‘harem rights’ to Akane, who being one of the horniest members of the cast, is more then happy for that. Akane is seeing Ayame at the moment but they haven’t officially started dating yet, its still in the friendship phase at the moment. This will develop into romance at some point though, but Akane is considerate enough to go things at a gradual pace. Yuki makes his first appearance in this arc as well as he shops at the new supermarket that Akane is working for, and we get to see Sora’s conflict over Yuki. Due to Sora’s purpose in the Killing Game, being created to protect Yuki until Mikado could break him, she is worried as she doesn’t know how much of her affection for Yuki is of her free will or due to the protocols that Mikado programmed into her. Akane reassures her that her love for Yuki is of free will as when Sora broke free from Mikado’s programming shackles, her first act was to protect Yuki from Mikado, and the two did genuinely bond over the course of the Killing Game. As such Akane meeting and potentially getting romantically involved with Yuki is A-OK in Sora’s books. But of course, that’s not the relationship you guys care about. You care about Servant’s Column AKA the relationship between Akane and Nikei. And quite a lot of progress was made there as we get to see how conflicted our poor reporter is. Due to Nikei’s highly disturbing backstory, he is unsure on what his sexual ordination is. The other Voids know where they swing but Nikei despite his best efforts doesn’t know what his type is. This isn’t a situation that is going to be resolved quickly as victims of sexual abuse do struggle with sexual identity and I could see a situation when Nikei winds up being asexual as a result of the whole thing. We know that Nikei has a habit on crushing on anyone who is remotely kind to him, something I relate to on a personal level, and that he’s okay with PDAs, but anything sexual is completely off limits to him as it would give Nikei traumatic flashbacks to his past. Given the strong likelihood of Miaya getting involved next arc, he really needs to speak to her as she could help him with getting to gripes with his past and sexual identity and allow himself to heal. And Nikei does need to learn how to be comfortable with himself before he can be okay with entering a relationship with Akane.

And now for the last harem and the only one without a name and that is Makoto’s harem. Thing is though, this is the harem I’m the most on the fence about. Because…is it going to exist? Cuddle Puddle are a thing, Hotel Akane is going to be a thing, but Makoto hasn’t made any noises about wanting to get into relationships with other girls, he’s may just be content having a relationship with Iroha. Granted he hasn’t even met the other girls who would be part of his harem and he won’t for a while so maybe attitudes change once the other girls become aware of him and he starts talking to them. The big event regarding this is that Makoto Naegi’s Worst Day ever happens during this Arc, which is the highly elaborate chain of events which leads to Makoto entering Hope’s Peak. I won’t talk much about this; it goes like it does in canon and just read it up online if you want details. Iroha wants to help Makoto during this but due to the enormous butterfly effects resulting from it, no interference can be done and it’s probably the only time we allow the Ankle Effect to make its noises. The results shows that the Ankle Effect isn’t an inherently evil force, it just wants history to stay the same. Unfortunately, history is tainted and the world would end if it is prevented so the Quantum Crew do have to meddle. The one thing Iroha CAN do with Makoto on his worst day ever is to comfort him and make his night memorable for all the right reasons. He is going to be a character though who would become more centric to the plot as soon as Junko enters the scene…unless things happen and he gets in sooner. I could see Makoto getting tangled up with dealing with Mikado as he has some association with the Voids now, and I think Makoto will NOT sit ideally if Mikado tries to mess with the Voids. As for Storm…I dunno.

And that’s all the harem developments, Hajime resolves Hiyoko’s family issues, Gundham exists in the Cuddle Puddle, Sora has Yuki identity problems, Nikei really needs as much hugs as possible and Makoto has an awful day, but he gets to be in line to being the hero of civilization and makes out with Iroha so all is good! At this point I would normally make my rankings but then a certain Motherfucker decided to get more screen time and thus he needs his own part. When we come back, I will discuss the most problematic part of the Arc, which is Maverick Storm. Until then byeeeee! - Review Anon

Ok, then I’ll be blunt about something.

Now that all of us are here, I’d like you to do something for us Yoruko.

And what’s that?

We don’t quite know our enemy. And I hardly think you know absolutely everything about Mikado.

But since you were roped into the killing game he masterminded, would you mind recalling the events of that killing game for us? And tell us everything you know about Mikado too.

Yoruko: I guess I should start at the beginning. But Mikado himself is where the whole story starts off...Him, and an organisation called VOID. From the very beginning, Mikado wanted only one thing. The power of Divine Luck.

Nekomaru: Divine Luck?

Ryota: I’ve heard of that before...Isn’t it a form of tangible chance that can be controlled by it’s user?

Mikan: If it can be controlled, does it r-really count as luck?

Nagito: Just think of my luck, except it has the power to almost change fate.

Ibuki: YikesTM!

Yoruko: The point is, there was only one person who ever held that power...

Hajime: You’re talking about Utsuro, right?

Teruteru: Who’s that?

Hajime: A man born with incredible abilities that gave him a godlike power of chance. I read about it in some Future Foundation files.

Impostor: He could use his powers to get anything, but the "process" of doing that didn't exist. For example, he could ace a math exam without actually learning mathematics. If he thinks he wants to study machines, he becomes well acquainted with machines. Whatever he thought, it was just done, with no sense of accomplishment or satisfaction. Because of this, he became bored with the world, and ran away from home.

Peko: Pardon me for saying this but that sounds...

Fuyuhiko: Familiar...

Hajime: ...

Hiyoko: But how does Utsuro relate to Mikado and these VOID people?

Impostor: He was able to live by himself on the streets thanks to his ability, and on his journeys, started helping many people in need, including someone called Akane Taira and soon to be members of VOID.

Fuyuhiko: So what’s the problem? He doesn’t sound like such a bad guy...

Yoruko: Utsuro didn’t help people because he was a good person; it was just because it was a "good deed" to do, and he got bored of that as well. As everything went as he wanted, he was no longer interested in anything. He attempted suicide multiple times, but failed again and again thanks to his ability. And then...after a while, he was approached by a certain someone...

Akane: Who?

Nagito: Junko Enoshima...

Chiaki: Darn it...

Hajime: Darn it is right...

Teruteru: Say what you will about Enoshima, she certainly gets around...Th-That wasn’t a dirty joke or anything, I meant that seriously.

Kazuichi: We get it. So what did Junko do?

Yoruko: From what I hear, for the first time in almost forever, she made him feel something...

Nagito: Despair most likely...But after that, he started following her footsteps, and became a member of the Ultimate Despair. Such a prominent member, that he came to share Junko’s Ultimate Title.

Sonia: So Utsuro was also the Ultimate Despair?

Yoruko: Yeah, and thanks to him and Akane Taira, who I brought up before, they orchestrated the Killing Game between Class 78...

Mikan: What?

Hajime: The Class 78 Killing Game was held to test the brainwashing and memory erasing abilities of Yasuke Matsuda for the First recorded Mutual Killing Game between Makoto and the others. The only three survivors of that event were Tsurugi Kinjo, Rei Mekaru and Teruya Otori.

Nagito: In other words, that incident gave rise to the Kisaragi Foundation.

Yoruko: And two of the other people who were forced into that killing game were Akane Taira, and Utsuro, under the guise of Yuki Maeda.

Hiyoko: Ok we get it, but how does Mikado fit in with all this, get to the point already!

Mahiru: Be patient Hiyoko!

Yoruko: Sorry, I’m stalling, but you DID say we needed all the facts...The reason I mentioned all that was because Mikado was one of the people that Utsuro had aided years prior.

Impostor: He was a member of VOID?

Yoruko: Not at first...But like them, he’d spent years searching the world trying to find Utsuro. However, his intentions weren’t as pure as the VOID’s. They wanted to thank him for his help, but he just wanted Utsuro’s divine luck for himself.

Nekomaru: How is it possible to steal a persons luck?

Yoruko: He found a way...

Yoruko: By this point in time, the Class 78 Killing Game was over, and both Utsuro and Akane Taira were dead. However, Mikado thought that if he could reconstruct Utsuro’s personality from the ground up as an Alter ego, the maybe it would be possible to resurrect his Divine Luck along with him. Once he did that, all he’d have to do was find another person’s body to upload him into, and then the Divine Luck would be all his.

Impostor: So his plan was to resurrect Utsuro, only to kill him again and steal his luck...How devilish...

Yoruko: Of course, he didn’t act alone. He had help from a woman called Kokoro Mitsume.

Nagito: The former Ultimate Psychologist...

Akane: You WOULD know all these people’s names and talents...

Nagito: I make it my duty to memorize all this stuff...Mitsume was an expert on human emotion, and she’d already collected plenty of information on Utsuro from her daughter’s own memories during the First Killing Game. 

Nagito: In order to fund her work, Mikado became a hacker and programmer, and he used those skills to steal money while the world was still knee deep in the tragedy...

Ryota: I remember the Future Foundation being up in a stir when he stole a bunch of data from us. I was still an intern back then...

Ibuki: This guy stole info from the Future Foundation?

Ryota: Like I said, I was still new, so I didn’t know all the details. However, from what I DID hear about, someone had stolen info from us on Chihiro Fujisaki’s data of how to make an Alter Ego AI.

Chiaki: That was the same data that they used to create me and Monomi...

Yoruko: And as a prototype for the project, the first Alter ego Mikado created was based on himself. But that was where things began to go terribly wrong...

Peko: What happened?

Fuyuhiko: The AI killed it’s creator. Nagito told us when we were inside the virtual world before.

Nagito: That’s right. Alter Ego Mikado’s thought process and personality were based on IRL Mikado’s. That means the AI had all his memories and all his desires. And that meant it wanted Divine Luck for itself, and it wasn’t going to let anyone get in the way...

Gundham: Not even his own creator...Correct?

Hajime: It went into his bank account, used some of the money he’d collected and hired a hitman to kill him.

Yoruko: That Hitmans name was Syobai Hashimoto. He was also roped into the Utsuroshima killing game. Despite being one of the smarter ones among us, he was also the most untrustworthy. His loyalties lied only in himself and money...With this in mind, the Kisaragi Foundation payed him to infiltrate the killing game as a double agent.

Gundham: What of the AI after his creators death?

Yoruko: Well, he had his own plan. Instea of just killing Utsuro and take his divine luck, it planned to create the Utsuro alter ego, upload it into a human body, then take that body over. The real Utsuro had already swapped places with Yuki Maeda at the time, so it decided to use him.

Nagito: But because Yuki’s personality was already residing within Utsuro’s body at the time, it would have been impossible, correct?

Yoruko: That’s right. The only way the plan could succeed would be to break through Utsuro by mentally breaking Yuki, until he quite literally died inside. And the way Mikado chose to break Yuki...

Hajime: Was with a killing game...

Yoruko: But a killing game needed people to participate. That’s when the AI sent out some calls.

Yoruko: Mikado sent a call out to the VOID’s. He promised them that if they helped him, they could be reunited with Utsuro and obtain his Divine Luck, and in exchange, they had to go out and collect people for the killing game.

Yoruko: There were four members of the VOID’s...The first was Hajime...

Hajime: Huh? Me?

Yoruko: No, not you. A different Hajime. Hajime Makunouchi.

Nagito: Hajime Makunouchi: The Ultimate Boxer...Nothing matters more to him than good health and appetite...

Yoruko: Then there was Emma...

Nagito: The Ultimate Actress, Emma Magarobi. Apparently she’d been through horrid amounts of abuse as a child.

Yoruko: Iroha was the third one.

Nagito: The Ultimate Painter, and the same story pretty much. She’d been forced to learn art as a child and was watched by a bunch of MIB’s ready to attack if she stopped for even a second...

Yoruko: And last of all...Nikei...

Nagito: Ultimate Journalist Nikei Yomiuri. A man with good intentions, but also a major megalomaniac.

Yoruko: The people the VOID’s gathered were all people who had some sort of attachment to the students from the Class 78 Killing Game. While in the real world, there was quite the age range, when we all were in the program, it reset our memories and appearances to when we’d been teenagers. The AI created the narrative that we were all freshmen students of Hope’s Peak. But Mikado’s whole plan was riding on Yuki’s survival, so they added one final piece of the puzzle...

Chiaki: Let me guess? An observer AI?

Yoruko: Something like that...

Yoruko: She woke up on the island without a name, or memory, so she started calling herself Sora, and in my eyes, she was like a true leader for us.

Yoruko: However, it turned out that one of the people who had been roped into the killing game was a detective for the Kisaragi Foundation.

Nagito: You mean Setsuka Chiebukuro, right?

Yoruko: That’s right. She’d been investigating Mikado’s actions, but was caught and roped in by the VOID’s.

Yoruko: Following up the information she’d found in her investigation, Teruya and Rei infiltrated the killing game and tried to stop it. They even told us from the start that Mikado was the mastermind.

Sonia: But judging from how only a few of you made it out alive, I’m assuming their attempt failed?

Yoruko: Mikado used this as an opportunity to assert his dominance. He could use magic in the program, and he used it to “Kill” Rei and sent Teruya flying. Eventually, he’d kidnap Teruya, erase his memories and have him join us in the killing game as the 16th Student.

Kazuichi: This whole talk of programs and stuff is giving me Deja Vu. Is anyone else feeling that?

Teruteru: Now that you mention it...

Hajime: Both killing games may have taken place inside a virtual world, but the Jabberwock Island and Utsuroshima Killing Games have some noticable differences. Yuki was the only one who mattered to Mikado. Everyone there, including the VOID’s were nothing more than collateral damage to Mikado...

Mahiru: Then...you mean...!?

Ryota: Oh god...!

Hajime: They were there for one reason and one reason only...To Die...

Yoruko: And in the end, Mikado nearly won. He killed Teruya and tricked us all into voting for the wrong person. If it wasn’t for Utsuro’s Divine Luck causing the program to crash, we would have all been executed.

Fuyuhiko: And when it crashed, that’s when you found out you’d been inside a computer the whole time?

Yoruko: In order to escape, we had to stop Mikado once and for all. But obviously, that wasn’t going to be easy...

Yoruko: We even got help from Tsurugi. However, that was an issue in itself. He’s the type of guy who will achieve his goal, no matter what the cost.

Hajime: That must have been a problem...

Yoruko: Not as bad as it sounds, but the real problem was with Yuki.

Sonia: How do you mean?

Yoruko: Even though his personality had been taken over by Utsuro by this point in time, his virtual avatar was still with us, so we thought it was possible to save him in the real world...but that was impossible...

Mahiru: Why?

Yoruko: Because his real body never existed...You see, in the previous killing game, Yuki died after being crushed under the crumbling academy. His body was too expensive to maintain, so when we found him...

Yoruko: He was literally a brain a jar...

Fuyuhiko: Jesus fucking christ...!

Ibuki: Wait a second! I thought Mikadork was going to escape into the real world in Yuki’s body? How could he do that if his real body was nothing byt a gross squishy brain?

Nagito: Yoruko never said that the body Mikado could use to escape to the real world HAD to be Yuki’s. Not when he could have used another.

Gundham: Whom are you referring to mortal?

Nagito: I’m referring to Akane Taira. 

Yoruko: No one was more loyal to Utsuro than Akane Taira. She was more loyal to him than she ever was to Junko Enoshima. In the real world, Utsuro had given up his divine luck just before he died. He passed it along to her and that transitioned over to her self in the Utsuroshima Killing Game.

Peko: Taira was in the killing game? How? Why?

Chiaki: I think I know...The AI...She was based on her, right?

Yoruko: Yes. Since Akane had the power of Divine Luck that Mikado needed, and Utsuro didn’t have it, and since Sora was based off of Akane Taira in the first place...

Impostor: That meant Sora was the one with the Divine Luck the whole time!?

Yoruko: In a desperate attempt to not let his plan fail, Mikado tried to alter things to take control of Sora’s body, even if it meant convincing her that escaping the virtual world without Yuki was impossible...But she found a way. And that way...was the end of her...

Mikan: You mean...she died...!?

Yoruko: ...

Yoruko: Sora volunteered to allow Yuki to escape to the real world in her body...while she stayed behind while the program was deleted...When Mikado tried to stop her, Tsurugi shot him, and supposedly killed him. We all escaped the simulation, as Sora and Alter Ego Utsuro stayed behind as everything around them vanished...

Yoruko: Until it was their turn...Sora...gave up her life to save us...

And that’s the whole story...

That’s one hell of a fucking field trip...

But couldn’t you have recovered your friends memories and avatars from the program, like how Hajime did with us?

No, there was a flaw in that program, so it didn’t work the same...everyone who died stayed dead, and we gave them a proper burial, even the VOID’s...
