im in a bad mood.

Your step father was an asshole, really, and you still had a hard time figuring out why your mom had decided to allow him to move in here with what was left of your broken family. âI was just at Graceâs.â you lied, knowing damn well that youâve in fact been attending another one of your friendâs party. Sebastian nodded in an unimpressed manner, bringing the half smoked cigarette to his lips before taking a rather large puff which he expelled by his nostrils. âNot bad, not bad... come here.â He answered, getting up from where he had been sitting after taking care of letting the rest of his cigarette down in the ashtray. Scared that you would have to face the consequences if you didnât obey, your feet slowly started to lead you inside of the kitchen. Though, you stopped a couple of feet away from him for safety.
As Sebastianâs body continued to near you, his hands traveled up to the back of your neck which he held in a rough manner. You winced, though tried your best not to show weakness as your only defensive mechanism was to avoid eye contact. âDonât you dare to fuckinâ lie to me you little brat.â He breathed against your face, the scent of alcohol coming from his mouth making you cringe. Though, for once, you couldnât help but feel the need to stand up for yourself. Unexpectedly, your hands pushed against his chest, causing his body to back away from yours.
âYouâre not my father! Give me a god damn break.â The words escaped your mouth in a stern and dry manner, body turning around as you were meant to divert towards the exit. She embodies everything positive in Hangeâs eyes.

She brings forth the butterflies that Hange carefully imprisoned in their ribs, the monarchsâ wings already seeping through the cracks at every joke she makes, reaching to their heart until every beat swayed to the sound of her giggles.

Hange turned around with a huge smile on their lips. Their conversation with Levi came to an abrupt stop, with the shorter man mumbling along the lines of âhere we go againâ. The small smile on his face spoke otherwise while watching two of his closest friends hug each other as if they didnât live together in an apartment right outside of campus. For Hange, summer is in the form of pretty close-lipped smiles, of late-night movie marathons on a worn-out couch, of bento boxes filled with their favorites, of a scent so saccharine, and a loyal friend.
A friend.
Of course. No matter where Hange goes, that word haunts them. Hidden beneath their smiles, their jokes, their longing, and admiring stares. Itâs a reminder of where they stand in this limbo they created. At one point, they thought that line had been crossed only for it to be established again in permanent ink. And before they know it, Hange is tumbling down in a spiral, along with a change of seasons.
Fall is where everything started.
The orange glow of the leaves created the perfect view as she sipped on her tall cup of warm coffee. The blissful sigh that came soon after warmed up Hange, even though they were seated in front of each other in the outside tables of the small cozy cafĂ© where Levi was working at. The chill brought by the autumn wind caused both of them to shiver in their layered clothing. The way she nuzzled more into her scarf made Hange coo, reaching out to pinch her cheek affectionately. Autumn was both their favorite season, how it made them resort to the comfort and warmth their sweaters bring, or how they cuddle in each otherâs beds with the air conditioner blasting despite the cold. It was also a season where Hange could admire her in their hoodie, a piece of clothing that swallows her whole because sheâs so small compared to their lanky figure.
Hange remembered being called out here because she wanted to talk about something. Now that they thought about it, her cheeks appear to be glowing more than usual and she kept glancing inside the cafĂ© where Levi was busy telling his coworker how to make the new drink. Hange even went as far as following her gaze but they didnât find anything out of the ordinary other than Levi sighing in that stressful way of his that always made them snicker. They turned back to their Sun, who was once again in a daze while staring at the clear windows of the cafĂ©. âSo,â they prolonged the syllable, âhowâs life going, darling? I know weâre living in the same apartment but I just canât help but ask you this because it seems like youâre always in a daze these days.â
A pause made the breezeâs call known.
âHey, Hange, have you ever been in love?â
That spread the chill even more inside Hangeâs chest. She called them by their name. Not sweetheart nor big spoon. The reality washed over Hange like a pail of freezing water.
âW-What?â Damn, they couldnât keep the stutter off their words.
She turned her head to them, eyes so soft and smile so beautiful that made Hange breathless for one second. The butterflies dwindled, losing their iridescent wings when they realized that look wasnât reserved for them anymore. âI thought about it,â she murmured, rubbing her numbing fingertips on the warm cup. âI have never fallen in love with anyone before. Sure, I love you and all our friends but Iâve never stopped and thought about how someone can look like starlight in front of me. But recently,â again, that pretty smile that pierced Hangeâs chest, âI never knew that it could hit me that unexpectedly.â
Hange grinned despite the pounding of her chest. âSo, whoâs the lucky person?â
She chuckled, going back to staring at the interior of the cafĂ©. âI told Levi to lay off on scolding her but he never listens, says sheâll never grow a backbone if heâs being considerate on her.â
Now, theyâre confused because the only people manning the counter as she spoke was Levi (and she would never fall in love with Levi, seeing as they grew up together like siblings rather than the childhood friends that they are) and a strawberry blonde who looked like Leviâs become their worst nightmare. It took Hange a full minute to process that the person sheâs been staring at was never their mutual friend, but the strawberry blonde who looked up towards their direction and waved with a pretty blush on their cheeks. She waved back with the same shyness, leaving Hange dumbfounded. âWait, the person youâre in love with isââ
âYeah, itâs her.â
Suddenly, Hange understands why sheâs starting to like autumn.
It reminds her of the girlâs hair, which she gushes about smelling like coconut. It reminds her of the girlâs preferred perfume, how it smells so much like cinnamon, something that she sometimes puts in her autumn drinks because in her words, âitâs the perfect season rather than winterâ. It reminds her of the girlâs hugs, the way both of them fit with each other like lost puzzle pieces.
But as the seasons change, feelings of long-term pining will always be constant.
âAre you okay, though?â Erwin asked them, blue eyes reflecting their pathetic faux smile. He pushed the plate of pasta to them since Erwin had an idea that Hange wasnât eating that much now. It also worried [Name].
âYeah, four-eyes, I know youâre not doing that great and Iâm saying this in the friendliest way possible because weâre worried now,â Levi reminded them, sipping on his tea with slightly narrowed eyes. âYou always decline whenever we want to bring you to somewhere, to the point of leaving Nanaba on voicemail. You always answer at the first ring. Look here, shitty four-eyes,â the way Levi enunciated the nickname made Hange slowly turn their head to him, face void of the smile they were known for, âshouldnât you be happy for her? [Name] gained the courage to confess and youâre here moping when you shouldâve been supportiveââ
âAnd what of my feelings, Levi?â
That made Levi blink and feel like an asshole.
Then, the dam broke.
âIâve been with her all this time, youâve seen that. You witnessed how this shy girl opened up to an extroverted idiot and became one of her best friends during high school. It feels like I canât fucking breathe because I always thought we were meant to be. When she was lonely, I was there to comfort her. When she got a bad grade on an exam, I was the one who knows what flavors of ice cream she wants or how she eats them together like a fucking milkshake. Every day, I never expected her to look my way like she looks at her girlfriend right now. It fucking hurts. It feels so empty to know that Iâm not the one she fell in love with. What did I lack? Should I be sweeter and gentler like that girl? Or dainty whenever I eat like she is? Be girly and dress up like a doll? Fuck, I canât even bring myself to hate her girlfriend. Sheâs so nice and kind and sweet, anything Iâm not.â Hange buried their hands in their hair, making it messier than it was.
âI just want [Name] to love me and make things wonderful. Why isnât Fate on my side this time?
âWhy didnât she choose me?â
Tears were now drifting down like snowflakes.
âHange,â Erwin murmured.
âLook, sunshine, itâs snowing!â
A voice catches their attention. A strawberry blonde cheers the words with glee painted in her eyes. Beside her is the subject of the trioâs conversation, the subject of a brown-haired personâs affections. Her eyes are taking in the beauty that is her girlfriend. She looks so pretty in love â how her eyes crinkled at the corners and how snow clung on her eyelashes as if she is a fairy straight from a fairy tale Hange loves when she was a kid. Her girlfriend takes her hand and pulls her to the restaurant where the trio is watching from the windows. Gray and blue irises slide over a somber bespectacled person, gauging their reaction though their face never gives anything away.
âIâm right behind you, Petra. I just took the time to admire you because youâre so pretty under the snow.â
âStop it! Youâre prettier!â
âDid you know that seeing the first snow of the year together with the person you love, your relationship will rival that of eternity?â
âThen, Iâm happy I get to see this first snow with you, sunshine.â
âMe, too, angel.â
Hange smiles under a steady stream of tears. âIâm happy for her. Iâm happy she found happiness even if itâs not with me.â
The chill blows inside the warm walls of the restaurant the moment the door opens, [Name]âs joyous greetings for her best friends bringing smiles to two of them. Her eyes drift to brown ones before turning to Petra to ask for a pack of tissues since Hangeâs tears are still visible. Hange watches the commotion with a small smile, the chill spreading through them like a snowstorm.

A Valentineâs Day Non-Date (AKA Lambert Was Fucking Right)
Because itâs Valentineâs Day and even though I definitely donât celebrate it, I still got this funny little idea that simply refused to go away until I write it down. So... Yeah. Enjoy the Witcher boys and their Valentineâs Day non-date!

âLooks like it,â Jaskier nods solemnly. âUgh, itâs probably for the best. I think Iâm a little drunk, Geralt.â
âNo shit,â Geralt chuckles.
âYou donât understand. Iâm just⊠Iâm a very romantic person, you know?â
âI wouldnât exactly call it romanticââ
âBut I am! And itâs Valentineâs Day tomorrow and Iâm not gonna have a date for the first time in years!â
âGood. Valentineâs Day is bullshit, anyway,â Geralt mutters. âThatâs your biggest problem?â
âIs it not enough?!â
âBoo fucking hoo. Look at me. Iâm single too, you know?â
âTrust me, I know.â
âGood. Because I am! Iâm almost forty, I got a divorce last year, and Iâm so fucking broke I canât even get my own apartment and have to have a thirty-year-oldââ

âOh, fuck off, Jask,â Geralt chuckles.
âYou know what we should do tomorrow?â Jaskier frowns, thinking. âWe should go on a non-date together!â
âNon-what?â
âNon-date! Like a date, but like⊠as friends. Because we are. Friends.â
âYou wanna go on a date thatâs not a date⊠On Valentineâs Day.â
âYou said it was bullshit, didnât you? So whatâs a bigger fuck you to the day than going for a friendly dinner with your roommate slash friend?â
Geralt sighs, closing his eyes. The world is beginning to spin a little.
âJust for the record, if I refuse to go,â he mutters, âare you gonna spend the whole evening drinking, crying, listening to terrible pop love songs and, well, being all miserable?â
âProbably, yeah.â
âOh, whatever. Iâm in.â
Geralt opens is eyes just in time to see Jaskier grinning at him.
âAre you? Oh, Geralt! I promise itâs gonna be the best non-date youâve ever been on!â
And then Jaskier wraps his arms around Geralt and kisses him on the cheek and Geralt knows heâs just made a horrible mistake.

âOh, weâre gonna stay at home. Aidenâs bought a new strap and he refuses to show me, so thereâs no way in hell Iâm gonna wait for a whole fucking dinner.â
âPatience is a virtue, you know?â Geralt chuckles just as Lambertâs boyfriend places two cups of coffee on the coffee table in front of them. âThanks, Aiden.â
âYouâre welcome,â Aiden smiles. âAnd donât listen to the asshole. Heâs the one who started it. He said he bought me something special for Valentineâs Day and then he refused to tell me what it was. This is just a little revenge.â
âWhat did you buy?â Geralt asks, turning to Lambert.
âAn engagement ring,â Lambert shrugs, smiling.
âSee?â Aiden smirks. âEvery time I ask him, he just thinks of another stupid thing he could give me. Iâve heard like fifty of those already, from lace lingerie to a puppy. This oneâs probably the best yet, though. As if youâd ever propose, you bitch.â
He slaps Lambert on the head playfully and returns to the kitchen.
Geralt raises an eyebrow questioningly and taps his left ring finger.
Lambert smiles and nods.
For real? Geralt mouths silently.
Lambert just nods again.
âWell, fuck,â Geralt chuckles.
âYeah, well. At least one of us is gonna get laid tonight, right?â Lambert laughs.
âWhat are you wearing, anyway?â Aiden asks, coming back with his own cup of coffee.
âOh, you know, the usual. Itâs not a date, remember?â Geralt shrugs.
âSo, black jeans, black shirt, that wolf medallion of yours⊠Poor Jaskier,â Aiden nods.
âMore like poor me,â Geralt sighs. âI donât even want to know what he is going to wearâŠâ

The answer is purple jeans, white shirt, a dark grey waistcoat, an excessive amount of silver rings⊠and dark red lipstick.
Geralt nearly faints when he sees Jaskier for the first time, and then every single time he looks at him.
Jaskier looks simply beautiful, more beautiful than Geralt has ever seen him, and Geralt simply cannot take it. It wasnât just a stupid idea, it was a completely idiotic idea, and the only thing that keeps him from running away is the fact that heâs doing it to keep Jaskier from being sad.
Heâs near oblivious to everything that happens during the dinner except the parts which directly involve Jaskier. Thatâs why he, when asked later, has no idea what he was even eating but can easily describe the way a stray drop of red wine stained Jaskierâs lower lip.
No matter what he tries to tell himself, itâs not a dinner between two friends â at least for him it isnât. Itâs a date. The only date he will ever have with Jaskier, probably.
And perhaps thatâs the reason why, when the door of their apartment closes behind them and Jaskier smiles at him and thanks him for the dinner and says that it was the loveliest evening heâs had in months, Geralt does the one unthinkable thing he just canât stop thinking of â he grabs the back of Jaskier neck to bring him closer and then simply kisses him.
He feels Jaskier hesitate and heâs nearly sure heâs royally fucked up just now, but then Jaskier sighs and wraps his arms around Geralt and kisses him backâŠ
And thatâs the point when Geralt stops thinking at all.

âWell, that was⊠unexpected,â Jaskier chuckles into Geraltâs hair.
âMhm,â Geralt smiles and snuggles up closer to him. He feels light-headed, perfectly fucked out, content⊠happy.
âDo you have any idea how long Iâve wanted to do this?â Jaskier continues, his fingers drawing lazy circles on Geraltâs skin. âMeliteleâs tits, it was even better than I imagined.â
That makes Geralt lift his head and look into Jaskierâs eyes.
âYou imagined it?â he asks.
âYou really have no idea how hot you are, do you?â Jaskier laughs. âOh, Geralt. The serenades to your ass were no joke. I just never thought youâd be interested.â
âInterested? Jaskier, Iâve been in love with you since⊠Fuck,â Geralt whines and buries his head in Jaskierâs shoulder. âForget I said that. Please, forget I said that.â
âNever,â Jaskier says, wrapping his arms around Geralt. âI love you too, you big moron.â
âOh.â
âOh, indeed,â Jaskier murmurs as Geralt lifts his head again.
âSoâŠâ Geralt says, licking his lips. âI guess itâs safe to say the non-date didnât go very well, did it?â
âQuite the opposite, dear heart,â Jaskier grins. âIâd say it went splendidly.â
âI thought the point of a non-date was to have a nice dinner and stay⊠friends.â
âBut you are still my friend, Geralt. My best friend,â Jaskier smiles and runs his fingers through Geraltâs white hair. âYou just happen to be my lover now, too.â
âDoes that mean youâre gonna be serenading me much more often from now on?â
âAbsolutely.â

âItâs stupid. I-I donât think⊠I just donât want to get my hopes up, Annie. Itâs been yearsâŠâ With Garreg Mach looming on the cliffside, memories began to resurface with each field and decrepit village you, Annette, and Mercedes passed. They were fields where you would train relentlessly in the early hours of the day. An excuse, you think, to see him more. Innocent enough. Who wouldnât want to improve their skill with the future King of Faerghus? Under those very trees is where you would have clandestine meetings at the same time beginning after the celebration of your victory at the Battle of the Eagle and Lion. Undeniably, the best night of your life.Â
You silently thanked Sylvain for slipping into the wine cellars and claiming you all had to finish the stolen bottles and clear the evidence. The only people still okay enough that night to do any cleaning were Mercedes and Dedue. Felix was technically okay too, but he left far before Annette was vomiting in the washroom to actually help out.Â
Your drunken first kiss at your bedroom door that Dedue definitely did not see. The sober one the day after. The sneaky one after breakfast. Quick one after training. Goddess, the heavy one in the dead of night after you scurried upstairs that Sylvain and Felix one hundred percent did not overhear through the paper-thin walls of the dorms. Countless kisses under the shadow of covers, night, until the ball. If everyone and their mothers didnât suspect something was up when you two did not even realize you were the only pair left dancing, all eyes on you, until Sylvain whistled from the crowd, well, you would be deathly concerned about them.
âBut those memories are from a long time ago, Mercie.â You pulled yourself from your thoughts. âThinking about them only hurts. This place, whatâs left of it, only hurts.â Mercedes set a gentle hand on your shoulder. âYou think after five whole years, it wouldnât hurt as much, but I donât think Iâll be okay until this war is over. Until the cause of this - of all this pain and misery - is put to rest. Back then, even if we could have died at the end of any month, I thought he was invincible. I fled Fhirdiad as soon as I heard. Like a coward.â
âYou canât honestly think that! The Empire was taking the city. If you stayed, you could have died too! Donât think like that.â You rolled your head back to look at the dark sky. You would make it back before it starts, at the very least.Â
âEveryone grieves in different ways, and it courses through us all at different paces. You have to let yourself hurt.â You shook your head, beginning to see the shadow of the village at the base of the monastery.Â
âIâve been hurting for years now. When I met up with Felix in Fraldarius territory, he told me that the distraction will get me killed. An hour later he saved my life in battle, so he's ever the same. I wonder if he decided to show today. Sylvain would inevitably follow then. Iâve always thought--hey, do you hear that?â You stopped your movements suddenly, holding your arms to stop them as well. FIghting.Â
âIs it the Empire?â
âI donât know, but we should help out anyway,â Annette replied. âCome on!âÂ
You expected the Empire, but you werenât surprised when you encountered thieves attempting to saunter off with the abandoned riches of the monastery. It was just like any other weekend you were off the road of bandits with the Blue Lions to clear a path for bandits.Â
Until you saw him. A ghost. As pale as one, at least. A hulking, nearly unrecognizable mass of strength shrouded in black and blue. Relentless, he tore through his path of thieves, the professor and Gilbert hot on his trail. The⊠professor? They were alive too? Your hand shook at your side. Theyâre both⊠okay? You swallowed. The professor always did tend to micromanage Dimitri. You realized you could not swallow with a closing throat, wobbling along with your chest. Wheezing, crying, freezing in battle. You heard Mercedes and Annette all around you behind a wall of fog. Legs shaking, you fell to the ground, hand tight to your chest.Â
âY/N, come on, get up!â It was Annetteâs urging, but she stopped suddenly. Two sets of feet set up around you. A barrier to protect you as your muscles shook. Get up. You have to. Get off the ground and fight. Just as he always taught you.Â
Your bow came out quick, sniping an enemy in Mercedesâ blind spot. Before you can do anything, argue it was your imagination that conjured the sound of his grunts and the blue of his eye, you had to survive to see them and keep track of Sylvain in the corner of your eye. He still tended to always look right instead of left. Were you not so shaken up, you would have reacted to seeing the rest of your old house in battle, but your mind kept filtering back. You did not see him again in battle. He and the professor were far ahead, after the familiar bandit you had dealings with from Anna, with the remaining three bandits. You, Annette, and Mercedes went to secure the area to make sure there was no bandit unaccounted for.Â
Didnât last, though, as you fell to the ground against the foundations of a destroyed house, legs outstretched and limp. With your palm being held tightly over your mouth, you squeezed your eyes tight to get any remaining liquid out.

âH-heâs alive.âÂ
âWe know. We saw-â
âHeâs alive. I spent five years grieving for someone who was here. I-I should have known he was here. I thought about it. I thought about it, but then I second-guessed myself and said that it would only hurt more. Searching for the dead. Pining for them, but look. I-I donât know. I donât know if I can even face him.â
âAnd you donât want to.â Felixâs voice was just as sharp as it always was. He was grimacing, pace fast as he joined the three of you. âHe is not the Prince you fell in love with. Heâs the boar thatâs been festering underneath his polite smileâ With an exhale through your nose, you looked away. Felix really could read you like a book. He scoffed. âYou knew too, didnât you? All this time. Of course. I shouldnât have put it past you to push things under the rug as you always do.âÂ
âFelixâŠâÂ
âItâs true. Itâs how they even got through the relationship. Not as perfect as you thought, huh?âÂ
âFelix, I think thatâs enough.â
âNo,â you interrupted. âHeâs right. I knew. I was at the rebellion. I was at that battle that is ingrained into Felixâs memory. I was in the Holy Mausoleum when we found out the Flame Emperor's identity, but he never told me⊠I didnât know the extent. You all knew he would hide me from all harm, including himself. Do you really think he would tell me whatever plagues him now? Though, I could take a good guess after spending a few nights in his room back then.â You swallowed, wiping away the remnants of your tears. âHow bad is he?â
âA lowly beast.âÂ
âThere you all are. Professor says to regroup. Says we have plans to discuss, if you all are interested - woah, you okay?â Sylvain scratched the back of his head. âOh right, yeah. Well, I donât know how long His Majesty is willing to wait. He looks pretty - uh - impatient.â You shook your head and used the wall to support you back to your feet.Â
âReunions like this are usually supposed to be happy, arenât they? I-Iâm sorry Iâm ruining it on you all. I really am so relieved to see you all okay. Itâs just⊠thereâs a lot of emotion going on right now.â It was Mercedesâ hand on your back. You neednât look to know.Â
âYou donât have to face anything you arenât ready for.â
âNo, I need to see what he has become. Itâs as Felix says. I can no longer ignore problems I must face. I can do it, but we still have to check the perimeterâŠâ Sylvain shook his head.Â
âTeach had Ashe and Ingrid do it right after you left.â Your professor always knew you better than you could ever know. âWell, letâs go then. Donât want to keep them waiting on us too long.â His brown eyes came in close. âYou hardly look like youâve been crying, if that helps.â
âIt doesnât!â Annette stomped on his foot. âY/N, itâs going to be okay. Me and Mercie are right with you!â A smile broke out on your face. Albeit sad, you nodded your head and believed her. Though you both knew, in the scheme of things, you were alone in this battle.Â
âSorry, teach. You know Felix. Walks like a grandpa.â Sylvain, as common as it is for him to be the asshole, was a kind soul. No matter how much he tried to hide it. You gifted him a small smile of thanks as he glanced back. You were in the back of the small group when you joined the semicircle surrounding Gilbert, Byleth and⊠and⊠you couldnât do this.Â
His hair has grown long and unkempt. Grease and grime painted his hair, his skin, his clothes. The armor he wore just a few shades darker than the circles under his single remaining eye but, oh, it still glittered brighter than the rainy sky. That was his eye. Though only one remained, it was his. This was your Dimitri. You clenched your teeth, for you could not cry anymore. Even if this Dimitri, from what you have heard, would not care for your tears, Dimitri five years ago would. You would stay strong for him if no one else.Â
And when his eye met yours, goddess, the jolt was felt down your spine. You knew your face screamed your emotions. You were no Felix, Slyvain, or Byleth. Lips parting, your breath halted as he kept your gaze. Nothing on him reacted. Goddess, his gaze was so much more piercing. You did not dare to move. As if you were a stranger, his eye flicked back to Gilbert as the knight continued to speak. Annette grabbed your hand from beside you and you squeezed so hard you watched her wince, yet she remained steadfast in holding yours just as tight.Â
For the mornings spent under the trees in the field after training, you would not cry. Dimitri is alive. He is here. A few steps away, though miles remained in between, he was alive. Within his dead eye, people will find hope. You will find hope. You know Gilbert already has as he speaks about returning to the monastery to begin to plan for the retaliation against the Empire. You know the former Blue Lions have as well, as they follow the professor loyally back up the ruined stairs you used to trip on far too often. You wondered if Dimitri can feel your eyes on the back of his head, or if he has come to be numb to that as well.Â
Annette did not let go of your hand until it was out of shock in the chapel. Its remnants littering the floors. Still, the peace of the goddess remained. Its silence was a lullaby to your worries. She, it had to be her, brought back the ones you love most. There was no other power. There couldnât have been. Even though there was a hole where she used to stand, you thanked the rain beginning to pour in.
You would be strong for the boy Dedue would sneak you to in the dead of night. To wherever the Duscur man maybe, you would do it for him, too.Â
But being brave and strong was always easy for the people in Asheâs books. They did not hesitate through their fear. It pushed them to be the heroes they are, but you could not find that platform to jump from. A mouse approaching a wolf, a boar. You sought help from the expert himself.Â
âHave you? I mean, have you tried to talk to him?â Ashe fiddled with the padding on his glove.Â
âNo, not yet. Felix, Ingrid, Sylvain, and Mercedes have, though. You should ask them. They can probably be more help than me.â Stepping onto the wall separating Garreg Mach from the cliff, you sat next to him, allowing your feet to dangle in the open air.Â
âNo, I think I need someone as scared as me. Someone who wants to be a knight from one of your books, but is the measly coward in the back used for poetic comparisons. Not that you are. Iâm talking about me.â Ashe shook his head.Â
âItâs only been a few days since weâve arrived.â
âAnd you think I would have already sought out the man I fell in love with already? A faithful reunion. Not quite like the ones in the romances.âÂ
âI donât think anything going on is anything like a book.â You furrowed your brows. âI know thatâs crazy coming from me, but no book is like another. They have similarities, but they are all inherently different. This one weâre in now, this is ours. This is what people will be reading about and looking to for help. Us. No book can help us right now. I think only we can help ourselves and each other.â You kicked your heel against the wall repeatedly. It wasnât what you wanted to hear. âYou should try. If Dimitri will listen to anyone, itâs you or the professor, and they tried already.â You could feel your throat beginning to close up.
âWhat do I even say? What if I say the wrong thing? Heâs hurt, Ashe. He always has been. I donât want to⊠I canât push him more. Heâs not off the deep end yet. He canât be. I donât want to be the final straw. I know what Iâll say if I get too⊠emotional.â The man sighed, green eyes scanning the clouds.Â
âWell, from my humble opinion, which you donât have to take, is that, if what youâre saying is true, youâre hurting him by avoiding him.â He stopped fiddling with the leather. Instead, he placed his hand on your thigh. âHe is, deep down, the same Dimitri we know. What if he was the same, and you were doing this?â
âThatâs debating if he is the same underneath. Knights are torn, but I know heâs there. He wouldnât so easily feed into it. I know it. It may be time and so much help, but heâs in there. This is part of him. This is not an imposter. This is just as much of him as the one we knew so well. It⊠has to be, because I donât know what Iâm going to do if itâs not.â
Nights seem to be falling earlier and earlier with nonstop cleaning, repairs, and supply running. Even if you wanted to, you lacked the time to seek the prince out. The greenhouse had to be fixed. The rubble had to be cleared. The holes had to be patched. Communication had to be made. Word was the Knights of Seiros would be arriving this evening. Preparations had to be made for that. How the hell did Cyril do this day-in and day-out?Â
You were exhausted by the time Seteth and company arrived and set to meet in the chapel. The second time youâve seen Dimitri since the bandits. The millionth time war efforts were to be discussed. Most of that work was carried out by Byleth and Gilbert. You only needed to follow orders, and your orders were to clean. Sorting out your emotions was just a side job.
âY/N. Y/N. Are you listening?â Setethâs scolding, something etched into your brain from the academy, broke you from your thoughts. However, you first regarded Dimitri, who looked at you the same as he did the first time, before having the courage to look at Seteth.Â
âI-Iâm sorry. Lost in my own thoughts.âÂ
âI asked if you have heard anything from Aegir? I know you were in contact with Ferdinand during the past five years.â Dimitriâs eye burned holes through your head. You could feel the sweat from it on your scalp.Â
âDuke Aegir has been placed under house arrest, sir. Everything from their title and land has been stripped from them. I⊠havenât heard anything since. It would be safe to presume that they will not be an in with the Empire.â Yours and Ferdinandâs history stretches only back to the academy; however, before you and Dimitri became official, you and he would occasionally⊠work some stress out. Casually. Dimitri always hated this fact, but he did his best to hide the jealousy from you.
âItâs not fair of me to judge you on what you have done in the past,â he said. âI will be more mature about my feelings.â Though the gleam in his eye now was all too familiar.Â
âI see. Thank you.â Something within you kept you from meeting Dimitriâs eye. A fear he would look away, so you focused on Seteth, Gilbert, and Byleth as they discussed the steps to making Garreg Mach the Kingdomâ base. When the meeting ended, however, you did not listen to such fear. Dimitri spent his time in the chapel. The spectacle to gawk at. It was no surprise when he did not move as the rest of the group disperse, and neither did you.Â
But he would not break first. Turning around, his cape followed him back towards the wreckage of where the altar used to be. You followed with steps as silent as possible. Opening your mouth to speak, you released only empty air. Inhaling, you tried once again, but a wall erected itself in your throat, cutting you off once more.Â
âIf you have something to say, speak.â His words, guttural, reverberated in you. Wringing your hands together, you took one last deep breath.Â
âDimitri.âÂ
âDo you wish to speak of the past?â His head turned, so you could only see one eye peeking from under his bangs. âThe boy you loved is long dead. There is nothing here for you.â You shook your head and took an adamant step forward.Â
âT-thatâs not true.â A dry laugh escaped him.
âIs it not? Are you not frightened of me? Is it not why you have hidden yourself ever since you arrived? You know it as well as I.â You tapped your fingers against your thigh. You had to remain calm and patient. He was going to try to push you away, and you knew that. Do not stray from the path.Â
âIt was not you I was scared of, Dimitri.â Another laugh. This one wry. He turned around to face you then. You knew he had gotten bigger, stronger, but he stood so much higher than you. A power stance you would not succumb to. This is the same boy who broke a pair of scissors and was scared Mercedes would yell at him and smuggled sweets for you two to have late at night to study for your certification exams. âDo not tell me it is because you think you could have changed something. Prevented something. Nothing would have changed whether you were here in the past five years or not. Do not think so much of yourself.âÂ
You squared your shoulders. You did not want to take this route, but you had to provoke some type of emotion towards you. Something to tell you that you are more than the tool of war to use against Edelgard, and he had already given you a hint.Â
âThen what about at that meeting, when Seteth asked me about Ferdinand? I saw the look you gave me. Iâve seen it before too. You cannot hide that.â His jaw clenched, and for a moment, you felt successful. âYou can say anything you want. How I am insignificant, a tool to use, another body to die in your path to revenge, but do not-â you pointed a finger at him â-tell me what we had was nothing. I want to see what you see. I donât want you to shut me out.â His eyes trailed down to your finger, and with an armored, gloved hand, pushed it aside.Â
âSo you admit it then? A tool at my disposal. To use and then break?â You shook your head, and your throat clenched once again.Â
âYou would add me to the list of people who already haunt you?âÂ
âYou know nothing of the dead. Of what they say to me. There is nothing for me to be concerned about other than taking the head off of that girlâs shoulders. Should you die getting in my way, then so be it.â His lance to the heart, but you would not let the pain show. He was the same boy who broke his training lance and hit Leonie with the broken handle and fretted about it for the next month, despite the blood on his hands. You had to believe that. Latch on to that single hope.Â
âYou always did what you could to protect me. From Demonic Beasts, bandits, Felixâs words, but right now, I think youâre protecting me from yourself.â Metal against your neck. In a blink of an eye, his lance touches the skin.Â
âDo not speak as if you know me, and do not speak anymore, or else I will slice your throat where you stand. Go away. If you return, I will not hold back, and I will use you to the bone.â A competition played out between your eyes, but, in the end, you succeeded. Walking out the monastery with a drop of blood on your neck, you did not allow any other droplets to fall until you crossed the bridge into the reception hall.Â
You donât who you cried for, or for how long until Catherine found you and guided you back to your room. Thoughts floated from Dimitri, his words, the past, to Dedue and his untimely passing and your peers that were now your enemies that Dimitri was ready to kill without hesitation and the reality of your death that could come in any battle here on forth. Â
Three knocks on your door. Too hard to be Asheâs, Mercedesâ, or Annette. Not hard enough to be Felix yelling at you to train like he used to when he could find no one else.Â
âSorry. I was just passing by, and, well, wanted to check in.â The last thing you wanted Sylvain saying was that he heard your balling your eyes out. With shaky hands, you wiped your burning cheeks and unlocked the door for him to enter. âOh, what happened? Whatâs that bandage from? Donât tell meâŠâ You motioned for the noble to come in and relocked the door. You didnât want any more visitors.Â
âYeah, I talked to him.âÂ
âHe hurt you?â
âI went too far. I-I shouldnât have pushed him so deep into his emotions, presuming things he felt. It was just a scratch. Iâm fine. You have the eye, Sylvain. You must have noticed the meeting.â You sat on your bed, while he spread himself on your desk chair.Â
âI remember he used to come to me during those times. How he can show his love for you through other means. How he had lost you before even had a chance to try. He was so stressed, and so hopelessly into you. I thought he had it for the professor, but color me surprised when he sought me out for advice on you.â You shook your head.Â
âNever should have started that with Ferdinand.âÂ
âSomething about nobles, huh?âÂ
âShut up, Sylvain. I-Look, I canât even focus on the past right now. I use it to remind myself Iâm talking to my Dimitri, and not the monster everyone fears. That, that man suffering alone in that chapel is the boy who got nervous every time we kissed, but⊠but itâs so hard. As soon as I saw him that day, I was shocked, overjoyed, but I knew something was wrong the same minute. Heâs been alone for five years. By himself. The only people to talk to him were the dead. What kind of⊠Iâm supposed to be the one that knows this, sees this, and helps this, but all I can do is cry in my damned room!â Sylvain was lighting fast to wrap his arms around you, and you clung on tighter to his shoulders. The sleeve of his shirt, the victim of your tears, saliva, and sobs until you had pushed your own self out of consciousness.Â
When you woke the next morning, your head lied on a breathing pillow. It did not take much to recall the previous night and you let yourself relax under human contact. It was something you have missed dearly in the past five years, and you know, despite his reputation, Sylvain would never try anything with you. Your eyes, heavy still from crying so hard, lazily trailed across the room. The window Dimitri almost broke with his lance, the desk you both hunched over figuring out the mathematical side of tactics, the potted plant the professor gave you for your birthday that Dimitri also broke, but replaced with the long dead ones present. The broken locks on your door from -Â
âSylvain!â You jolted up, slapping his chest harshly. He woke with a groan while you stood and approached the door.Â
âMm, what?â
âDid you hear anything last night? Banging, or snapping, after I fell asleep?â He rubbed your pillow over his face, so you approached him, tore it from his hands, and smacked him. âSylvain. My door is broken.â Brown eyes were wide and glowing under the sun from the window. He rushed to check out the damage. âI think I know who would haveâŠâ He met your eyes. âWhich means he saw - â
âYeah, I get it. Iâm a dead man.â You shook your head.Â
âHey, hey, not yet. We could try to guess why he would come in here.â Sylvain rolled his eyes.Â
âIsnât it obvious? It isnât to kill you. He already would have been in the chapel. Oh - we messed up. We messed up big time. Iâm so sorry, Y/N.â You put your hand on his arm.
âItâs not your fault. You were here when I was sobbing. I canât be mad at you for that. Iâm mad at this whole situation. This war. Everything. You just need to avoid him at all costs. Stay with someone. Felix most likely. We could explain the situation to him, so he understands, and so he doesnât think we⊠you know.â

âBut he wouldnât. I trust that he wouldnât, and if one of the two of us were to approach him, it could not be you. Out of the question. It would have to be me, and you both know that, and it has to be as soon as possible. I mean, as in-â
âHave you all seen Dimitri?â Ingrid popped around the corner. âItâs the Empire - theyâre coming. Gear up and get ready. We donât know what forces theyâre bringing, but we cannot allow them to take the monastery again.â Of course, of all times.Â
âWeâll worry about this later. Do not let this distract you on the battlefield. Focus on surviving and nothing else. Got it?â Felix held a finger to your face. You nodded. âGood. Come on, Sylvain. Weâll see you out there.â
Focus on surviving. You were always focused on surviving. Battle was not merely just slaying your enemies. You were the priority. Not the oncoming enemies. That fact never changed during battle. That was the first thing the professor taught you; however, his selfless behavior on the battlefield would have anyone thinking twice. When it comes to fighting with people you cared about, priority gets muddled.Â
Dimitri was no longer focused on surviving. His priority was to kill, slaughter his way to Edelgard. Nothing else mattered. In this way, his fighting has improved tenfold. No reasonable person would want to confront him in physical combat, which made life harder for everybody else. Being a distance fighter, you, Ashe, Annette, and Mercedes were able to watch his back. Of course, Byleth couldnât risk that many people micromanaging him. For strategyâs sake, itâs suicide. Mercedes was a critical healer and menace being trained a gremory. That source of power would not and could not be squandered. Ashe had worked incredibly hard to be a bow knight, and your most powerful archer can also not be used as a protector of one person.Â
The job usually came down to you. Both by order of elimination and by your lack of ability to focus elsewhere. Your eyes were naturally drawn to the splattering blood and the behemoth of a man as the source. Byleth knew this just as well as you. You were the definition of predictable on the battlefield.Â
But, the one thing you forgot was that, on a battlefield, nothing is predictable. To be able to predict the cavalier was able to reach you with his javelin was precautionary, week-one lessons, but, still, it sunk into your side. Unimaginable pain. The raw snap of impact. Warm blood cascading down your leg. Think⊠think! You had to get somewhere safe. Somewhere an imperial soldier wouldnât finish you off. Hopefully, someone else would take care of that soldier before they reached you.Â
Each inch was crippling. The gathering of bushes and trees seemed so far, and your energy was slipping exponentially fast. Youâd be out from blood loss in due time. It even began to drip from your mouth and onto the already stained grass. Almost there. The moment your foot crossed the threshold to the hideaway, you went lip on your back. Smoke and flames met the already decaying sky.Â
You glanced down your body. The javelin was at least a third in your body. Getting it out would just expedite the process, so you allowed yourself to lie your head back. Distant shouts and screams and metal clashing filled the air. The smell of the earth around you drowned out by the putrid scent of burning flesh. Something you never take note of while fighting for your life.Â
Peace was not a word to use in these places, but you had no other one to use as you lied still. Is this what Dimitri meant? You wondered what he would think and say when he heard, or even saw, your death. Your death. Another nameless, pointless death in Edelgardâs ruthless path to her goal. You can see Mercedes and Annie crying. Maybe even Sylvain and Ingrid. Felix, perhaps, would cry, but you were sure heâd be pissed at you. And DimitriâŠÂ
You sobbed. Perhaps you really were worthless, but you wanted to hope, to pray that he would be there each time you opened your eyes back to the gruel world around you. Each time, he wasnât.Â
Until he was.Â
Blood dripped down his face, none of which was his own. It matted down his locks and dripped from each lock. Areadbhar glowed in his hand and dragged across the flattened grass and mud. The air was only able to jostle the very ends of his hair. His mouth opened, canines peeking from the corner of his lips. Leaving the smoke and fire behind him, Dimitri got larger and larger.Â
Goddess, he was beautiful. Even as he stared with an empty eye down at you, you couldnât help but gasp. An angel of death. You moved to rise, but the rip of his lance on your breast pushed you back down. His eye traversed down your figure to your wound. The weapon rose and fell with your breath.Â
âDimitri,â you breathed out.Â
âI told you, did I not?â His chin rose and Areadbharâs tip dug just a hair deeper. âFoolish Y/N. You are too weak for the thick of battle.â You squeezed your eyes shut. âBut you will not die by imperial hands. I will not allow it. If you are to die, it will be by my hands.â Your fists gripped the grass. Dimitri hummed. âYou wonât say that I wouldnât? Or do you finally realize the truth?âÂ
âIf youâre going to do it, just do it. Neither of us need this â -you coughed -âstalling.â His elbow retracted and you winced, ready for the final blow.
âY/N!â Sylvain. At the silence that followed, you peeked an eye open. Dimitri was focused on the source of the voice, giving you room to squiggle away until he forced the lance forward again. This time, the tip traced your left cheekbone. âY/N!â Dimitri was daring you to speak, but, right now, you could hardly breath.Â
âYou said you were not scared of me, before. Are you scared now?â He paused. âYou said you want to see what I see. Do you keep your word? Do you honor it?â Were you supposed to answer? Fear crippled your ability to formulate words. âYou will not die yet.â Areadbharâs glow now dominated your left visual field.Â
In a second, everything in that field went black, and you screamed.Â

âI watched you go down,â Felix said. âYou were at the higher ground, where you usually are in the midst of battle. You might as well have painted a target on your back if I can see you from across the plain, you idiot. That javelin went into your side,â amber eyes locked onto the bandages covering your side, âbut I watched nothing touch your eye.âÂ
Thank the goddess for Manuela and Mercedes. Without an expertise in white magic, you would be long dead. By the same token, thank the goddess for Sylvain who found you bloody and passed out in the cover of the bushes and delivered you to them on horseback.Â
Your fingers traced the bandages that wrapped around your head and covered your left eye. Everything to your left periphery and everything not covered by your right eye was black. It didnât throb, didnât hurt anymore, because there were no more nerves to send that pain to your brain.Â
âWhat happened, Y/N?â Ingrid cut in. Her, Felix, and Annette stood around your bed in the medical bed. You shook your head.Â
âI⊠I donât remember. The last thing I recall is crawling towards the cover. I donât even know if I got there.âÂ
âLiar.â Felix abruptly stood. âStop defending that boar, and just say it.â Your mouth opened, but Ingrid cut him off.Â
âFelix, are you saying you think Dimitri took her eye?âÂ
âI know it,â he snapped back. âIâm right, arenât I, Y/N? Just say it. Say that beast took your eye while we were all distracted in battle.â Your eyes glanced to the others, unconsciously asking for help.Â
âFelix, youâre adding unnecessary stress. Come on. We should give them space. Weâre lucky theyâre not deadâ Her hand locked onto Felixâs arm. He grimaced, glaring down at you while he shook himself from her grip.Â
âWhen will you ever start caring about yourself? There is more death than just physical.â He spit out before stomping out of the room. Ingrid sent you a sympathetic smile and followed her childhood friend out. Annette left soon as well under the excuse of giving you time to rest, but you could not rest. Dimitriâs face haunted you every time your working eye closed. Every throb was its own lance. Its own mark.Â

You thought you were crazy the first time you reflected on why you and Dimitriâs eye total was the same as a normal human being. You thought you were insane for romanticizing it. It was terrifying. Inhumane. To you, at least, but to him, you knew, it was a mark of possession. That when people saw you, thought of you, it would always be connected to him, but it was also a threat. Not only to those who dare try to do you harm that isnât him, but to you. I told you. This is what you get and will continue to get.Â
You waited until the sun set, until the priests and priestesses would no longer be in your room to cry, so your pathetic cries of anguish would be bouncing off the walls in peace. Curling in on yourself, you buried your chin between your arms and stared into the dark room. Waiting and watching, a large silhouette emerged from the darkest corner and approached. Cold claws of his armor wiped away the tears on one cheek while simultaneously breaking the skin. You could only barely make him out through the moonlight in the open window next to you. Dimitri circled the bed, looking down at you from the side before bending down and planting his lips on your cheek. His warm tongue wiped at the newfound beads of blood, and you hissed at the contact. He separated himself just enough to look at the bandages around your eye.Â
âI get it,â you said. âI get it.âÂ

Luckily (as lucky as you can get during the situation), the damage cut clean through the nerves, so all ganglion cells and connections to the optic nerve were completely severed. No nerves. No signal to the brain. No pain. Still, it would be a while before the tissue repaired and scabbed over.Â
You didnât know what to do with Dimitri, frankly. Part of you was terrified to even approach him. Another was equally as terrified, but this was out of what he would do if you were with someone else again. You were sure of the correlation between your broken door and your stolen eye. You wonder, then, what else he could have seen? Sparring with Felix or advice sessions with Ashe or⊠too many instances come to mind.Â
Byleth pushed you to train more with your periphery severely impacted, and, when the time to march came, confined you to Garreg Mach until you were proficient enough not to get yourself killed.Â
âGood,â was all Dimitri said on the matter. It wasnât until your assault into the Empire that Byleth deemed you ready for actual battle. Up until then, you spent your time training. First, it was with the knights, until all of a sudden they no longer desired to raise arms with you. Something about the demon over your shoulder. You looked to Catherine, who glanced to the door, where a large shadow quickly disappeared. You inhaled sharply and pursued.Â
âNo one is willing to train with me. Do you have something to do with it?âÂ
âThey canât help you,â he responded. He quickly strode down familiar, overgrown paths down to the fields below until you both reached the same field he had trained with you in years ago. Dimitri spun around, raising his lance. âThey donât understand.â From your blindspot, he swung, and you barely dodged out of the way, feeling the very wind from the force. âGet up and arm yourself.â You quickly shuffled to your feet.
âWhy? Arenât you⊠donât you plan to kill me, anyway?âÂ
âEquip yourself. I will not have filthy empire hands decide your demise, and I wonât have you staying behind on your own.â You gave up on trying to read into him. âNow, fight.âÂ
It was brutal. Unlike the helpful and cautious nature of his corrections and demands, you learned through mistakes. If your leg got slashed, you moved it the next time. If you were pushed and forced to one side, you adjusted your posture for the next time. Dimitri gave you no breaks, no time to tend to the cuts and bruises he gave you. There was hardly time to catch your breath before he was charging again, forcing your back against a nearby oak. He seemed to not be bothered or fatigued at any point.Â
It would not be the first time your back was pinned against this very tree. Dimitri growled, his weapon lodged into the wood right behind your ear. A moment passed where it was five years ago, hands tight on your hips and heavy breaths swallowed by one another. Now, he pulled his weapon back and went in for another strike.Â
âItâs dark. I think we need to go back.â
âYou think they will not use the guise of darkness? That we will always fight when the sun is out? Arm yourself.âÂ
You limped back to Garreg Mach. The only real guide you had, with Dimitriâs brutal pace, was his footstep imprints and the sound of him pressing on. By the time you reached the gate, you nearly collapsed with Dimitri far ahead. Thank the goddess Anna was around to get help. Bylethâs dark cape flew behind them as they rushed through the market. They rushed you, as fast as you could go on weak legs, to the same bed you were confined to with your eye. Manuela dropped the elixir in her hand as you and your entourage busted through her door.Â
âGoddess, what happened?! No matter. Get them inside.âÂ
Felix was going to kill you.Â
But still, when you were able, you met Dimitri again in the same field. And again. And again. Until you were no longer on the verge of death each nightfall when you returned. Your former housemates did not hesitate to chastise you or even micromanage you, but, inevitably, they had to do their own work, and you set off. Felix gave you an innumerable amount of choice words before it seemed he gave up.
You were confident heading into the empire. No opponent you would face, close up or far, was Dimitri. They were far smaller, thinner, and weaker. Youâd even say they seemed to have less physical intent to kill you compared to the blonde. You traded in your bandages to a white eyepatch similar to Dimitriâs except there was still padding for the raw skin underneath. Something that inevitably drew enemy forces towards you.Â
âY/N?â Despite the cruel, ruthless nature of battle, Ferdinandâs voice held the same noble gentleness. Your eye, wide and wild, met his. Across a stretch of corpses, the redhead stood tall, long hair matted down in the wind. You swallowed. âY/N!â He called again, eyes wide behind you. In a split second, you turned to see an armored knightâs axe impending down on you. The next, a lance impaling them that breezed from over your shoulder.Â
âYou killed your own man.â
âHe almost killed you.â You hurried to dislodge his weapon from the body.
â...Thank you,â you muttered, handing the lance back to him. Your eyes rose to behind his shoulder. âF-Ferdinand!â Your warning came too late. Dimitriâs blunt force knocked him to the ground. There was no warning, no room for words, before the sickening sound of death cracked in front of you. Again⊠and again⊠and again. You squeezed your eyes shut.Â
âKeep your eyes open. This? Was your fault.â Blood splattered onto his pale features, adding to the pattern already decorating his skin. âLetâs go. Stay by me.â Not that you usually didnât. Still, your legs would not move. Not with the fresh corpse between the two of you. âWhat?â Dimitri hissed out. âAre you upset? He was just another body in our way... unless it was something more to you?â You shook your head, taking a hold of your bow tighter. âGood. Letâs go.â Dimitri did not bother to even look back, and you⊠you could not even look down, and hurried to follow.Â
You didnât sleep for days. Ferdinandâs kind smile on your mind. You did not dare tell anyone of his gruesome demise. Though, looking at the detail, the monstrous nature of it, it didnât take too much thought to guess who was responsible for it. You couldnât even bring yourself to celebrate Dedueâs return. The thing about him though was that he never let too many things go unnoticed.Â
âHow are you?â He simply asked, and you lost it.Â
â-I couldnât do anything. I-I couldnât! Or⊠or I didnât. Oh, goddess, I donât know.â Your hands shook in front of you. âHe can do what he will to me, but to others? Because of me? I⊠fuck. I couldnât tell anyone. Felix and co. are already suspicious enough.âÂ
âI am sorry. I know those words do not mean much now, but, for what it is worth, I am.â He paused, furrowing his brows and focusing on the ground. âI-,â
âY/N.â Dimitri hulked in the doorway. Where the hell does he come from? Dedue stood promptly.Â
âYour Highness,â he greeted. Dimitri briefly regarded the Duscur man before focusing on you once again.Â
âCome,â he said, and you followed, wishing Dedue a small farewell. Dimitriâs cape glided against the concrete. He led you across the bridge and into the empty echoes of the cathedral. It was far too late for any priests or students to linger. Especially with Dimitri lurking around in the late hours. âYou still think about him.âÂ
âI still think about his death,â you carified.Â
âDo not tell me you mourn for a man who was going to imprison you.â You scoffed.Â
âHe saved me.âÂ
âIn order to take you back to the empire for information. Who else would he like to obtain than the one he grew feelings for? Do not be so naive to think he saved you so altruistically.â Your teeth dug into your bottom lip.Â
âYou donât know that.âÂ
âI do. You and I both know how war works. Do you think Edelgard and her army would not use every former connection to get ahead? There is no line on the path to victory. Being weak, showing compassion, is just how you get killed. How the enemy wins.â You shook your head.Â
âYou said you were going to kill me. Did you not save me for that reason? My death is the same no matter whose hands it is by. It will have the same impact. One less body between Edelgard and you.â Dimitriâs eye glanced downwards, then shot back up to meet yours with a small chuckle.Â
âAre you not already dead? Have you not already succumbed to the wills of those who control your mind? Have you not already become your own form of monster?â You shook your head and took a step back.
âN-no, Iâm not.âÂ
âYou are not? You allow these cuts and bruises to litter your body. You allow your own eye to be stolen. You allow others to die. You allow all of this without consequence. You are a worse kind of monster: the one that allows another to live, to unleash without consequence. You hardly see the others anymore. You do not train with them, eat with them. They tend to your wounds and you run to get more.â Metal fingers gripped your chin and forced your head upwards. âI told you I would kill you, and I have.âÂ
HIs kiss was fire compared to the ice of his armor pushing against you. All-consuming, Dimitriâs lips molded to yours and his teeth pierced your skin. He licked at your lips, and you willingly opened your maw to let him in. You willingly allowed him to drown you out, to push you towards a pew and lock you between his body and the wood. He only separated to breath before digging for more, more. His tongue dragged across your own and touched upon your teeth, tasting your intricacies with increasing vigor. He inhaled every exhale you panted into his mouth. These were not the kisses Dimitri five years ago gifted you.Â
âYou taste the sameâŠâ he whispered. âShow yourself to me. Let us be dead together.âÂ

Short summary: Y/N is a journalist who dreams of writing a frontpage article at the Seoul Times. She gets the chance to attend the Bang Charity Gala through her work where she plans exposing Kevin Bang, father of Chan and one of the richest men in Seoul. How is she planning to do that? The Gala is a masquarade ball where no one will recognize her. Y/N just wants justice for herself and everyone Kevin Bang hurt.

The event was full of people. Full of filthy rich people, you might add. It was the event of the year for Seoulâs richest and most famous people. The Bang Gala. What is the Bang Gala, you might ask? It was a charity gala where tons of money was gathered for a good cause every year. The cause is always kept a secret until the gala. Last year the money went to an organization that helps orphans who didnât get adopted to adjust to society. Sounds like a beautiful event, right? In one year, the money went to survivors of natural catastrophes, another year it went to the homeless. Each year millions of dollars were donated. You couldnât even imagine how big the sums must be.
Bullshit. That was what you thought. Because the people behind this charity gala were the Bang family. Kevin Bang, the owner of Seoulâs biggest real estate agency, no, you could even say the owner of South Koreaâs biggest real estate agency hosted the gala. In the media, he was known for being a generous businessman, always leaving huge tips at the restaurants he was eating at. He was not only known for being generous, but also being down to earth too.
All of it was an act. Because you knew who the real Kevin Bang was. You knew how the real, evil, Kevin Bang was like and how he treated the people around him too. He was the reason why your father lost everything.
You were just a kid when all of that happened. You didnât like to dwell on the past but you were a girl who hated unfair treatment. The past was the past but it wasnât easy to forget. In the past two years you have been working for a pretty big newspaper â the Seoul Times. Okay, working would be an overstatement. You were basically there to proofread the articles written by the real authors and bring coffee. But you were still happy to be there because it was a start. You studied journalism but had no experience yet so it was even a miracle that you got a job at such a renowned company. Sometimes you did write small articles but mostly it was about boring stuff, for example, how the private school next door opened their new library which was â what a coincidence â sponsored by none other than Kevin Bang.
Your parents were proud of you because you worked your ass off at university for this degree. It was very underwhelming to get such an underpaid job, but you had to work hard to become the head editor one day. Right now, you worked at the âcelebrityâ department, where they basically gathered all kind of news about any kind of celebrity. Like for example how BTS got another win for their latest album. It wasnât what you envisioned. Sometimes you switched departments too and just work wherever you were needed. That is why you needed an incredible story to write, a story that you have discovered. You didnât only write articles but sometimes you had to investigate too, like doing interviews outside the office if the writer himself was too lazy to do it. But this story was your personal story. No help from Seoul Times or any other editor. You knew that this story, your story, would secure you a job on the top. That story was exposing Kevin Bang.
Exposing the real Kevin Bang. Not the beloved charitable, kind person that everyone looked up to, but the asshole, getting-anything-he-wants Kevin Bang. Why was your hatred for him so deep when everyone seemed to love that guy? The answer was simple. If something didnât fit into Mr. Bangâs plans then he just bought everything with his money and influence. He was one of the reasons why an orphanage was demolished because he wanted to free some space for his clients, so he built a 5-star hotel on that area. According to your research he made some hefty payments to make sure that this does not reach the media. It hurt you a lot because you volunteered a lot at that specific orphanage. The kids there were not prepared to leave at all. It was a shitty move of him and you hated him more for that.
But that was just one of his many wrongdoings. You hated reading anything about that guy and his family.

Chaos. The office was very chaotic because of the on-going charity gala. A lot of newspapers used the gala to get interviews with big names, because anyone who had influence attended that gala. But this yearâs theme was not optimal to get a lot of interviews: Masquerade. Everyone had to wear masks so no one knew who you were.
It was interesting since all of the people there already had two faces. The theme made a lot of interviewers back out because if you canât see the celebrity, interviewing them would be difficult.
You were sitting at your desk, trying to find more dirt on the Bang family when you heard a stack of papers landing next to you, making you flinch a little. It was your supervisor, Hana, who looked at you, annoyed. âProofread these, okay?â, she sighed, rubbing her temples.
âOkay.â, you said, not wanting to annoy her more.
âI need these by tomorrow by the way.â, she added arrogantly.
âExcuse me, what?!â, you said, standing up in shock. âI canât even get half of those done in a day!â
She stared you down with an angry expression. âOkay, then why donât you go and try to interview some masked celebrities at that stupid gala, huh? Our top interviewers donât want to go because they think itâs a waste of their time!â
You sighed. âJust because you have problems, doesnât mean that you can put all the workload onto me.â
âI am sick of you complaining, Y/N. This gala is stressing me enough already. Itâs not like anything happens at these galas anyway, I donât even know why we have to send so many employees there. The big boss is crazy. Taejoon doesnât want to go and we have to send someone from our department.â, Hana said angrily, clearly angry at Taejoon who usually does the interviews for your department.
Then an idea popped into your mind. âWait⊠So technically if Taejoon goes to that gala thing, doesnât he get a free pass?â
âYeah, we cannot identify the celebs there anyway. But we still have to send ten of our people so that they can write down how much money was donated, where the money goes to, blah blah. Also, if anyone decides to show up without a mask, interview them. Stuff like that.â
This was the idea! You gathered information on Kevin Bang for a while now and if you could find a way to get in there, you might be able to turn everyone against him. You just needed to get the attention of the guests and the media. You knew that you wouldnât get the recognition you wanted but it would be a start to dig the dirt on him.
Maybe, if you tell the boss that it was you who exposed him, he will let you write the big front-page article about him. Nobody knew more shit about Kevin Bang than you.
âYou know, if you let someone else proofread these articles, I would go to that gala instead of Taejoon.â, you offered her.
She gave you a tempting look. âYou never went, right? Of course, you would be excited to enter such an exclusive event. But please donât fall asleep, it gets boring pretty quickly.â, Hana warned you. âAlso, you canât wear a mask as someone from the media. You need to stay in the background, especially since you are still a rookie. Got it?â
Yeah, of course, it was because it was an exclusive event. Itâs not like you had a huge ass plan to destroy Kevin Bang or something. âYeah, got it. Can I go?â, you asked innocently.
She sighed. âOkay. But donât do anything stupid!â
âI wonât!â
âAt least not when you are around.â, you thought.
Now that you got your free pass to the Bang charity gala, you needed to make up a plan. A really good one. Because your operation was big and you couldnât risk making any mistakes. The gala was in two days and you quickly needed to figure out what to do and how to do it.

With all the information you had on Kevin Bang, you knew you had to somehow get the attention of the audience that would attend the gala. Through some insider information you found out that there will be a huge projector. Itâs projecting at the main stage. So, you somehow needed to get to the tech room to show the audience your evidence.
You found out that a friend of yours, Felix, will be working there on the night of the gala as a waiter for drinks. You were sure that he would be a huge help and approached him but at first, he thought you were crazy. You were basically trying to ruin a charity event. But after explaining why you wanted to do it, he agreed to help you with your plan. There was a designated area for the press, so you needed to get inside and change first to mix with the actual guests.
This was your plan:
1.   Get inside the actual building as someone from the press
2.   Bring a sexy dress and a mask
3.   With the help of Felix get in the employee area to change
4.   Act as if youâre a guest and talk negatively about Kevin Bang
5.   Get in the computer room to âhackâ the projector
6.   Expose Kevin Bang
Sometimes you felt like one of those drama Youtube channels. But this was more than just telling everyone about a horrible person. You did this for your family, especially for your dad. Your family was ruined because of him. Your parents worked their hardest just so you could go to university. Of course, you also did this to write an article about him and get a better position at work. But there was more of a personal agenda behind this.
After a long day of work, you finally came home, clearly exhausted. The gala was tomorrow and you were really nervous about everything. Your roommate Jisung walked out of the kitchen and looked at you. Jisung and you met on your first day of university and became friends quickly. He was your closest friend and you knew you could trust him with your life. âHey, I got a huge ass dress delivery for you today? What are you going to do with such a fancy dress?â, he asked you curiously.
You smiled at him, determined. âI will attend the Bang charity gala tomorrow.â
Jisungâs eyes widened. âWhat? For real? Because of your job or what?â
You smirked. âJust wait. After tomorrow, I will finally get the recognition I deserve. And yeah, I will get in thanks to my job.â
Jisung looked at you suspiciously as he sat down with a bowl of chips in front of you. âYou're planning something, arenât you?â
You put on a confident smile as you laid down on the couch. âYeah. Look, I will tell you everything after the gala. Itâs a huge thing soâŠâ
âDonât get arrested or something, dude.â, Jisung sighed. âWell, since you wonât tell me now, why donât we watch a movie on Netflix then?â
âSure.â

The day of the gala arrived quickly and you found yourself with a camera hanging onto your neck in front of the huge ass gala building. You gave your dress to Felix before so he could hide it in the employee changing rooms. Your hands were sweaty as you took some pictures.
âSo, we will be at different locations throughout the building. Try to get some good pictures and if you recognize someone, try to get an interview, okay?â, one of the interviewers told the Seoul Times journalists.
As you went to your designated areas you looked around for Felix to get out of here. At the same time, you admired the huge building with a rich history. Literally, rich. The guests were coming in slowly and everyone looked glamorous and fancy. Their dresses probably cost more than you earn in a month. The location was beautifully decorated, the main stage was huge. While looking around you saw the tech people going upstairs. The tech room must have been upstairs. You couldnât find a good floor plan on the internet and security was high alert. There had to be a way to get up there. Dressing up as someone from the tech crew would be too obvious but no one would suspect a masked woman in a dress. Especially since you were masked, you were even safer.
As everyone was seated Kevin Bang entered the main stage shortly after. His crisp suit looked expensive, his hair was slicked back. His face was half covered by a black mask. Behind him was his wife, probably number 6 by now, and his son Chan. They also wore masks that didnât do a good job with covering their faces. Your gaze wandered more towards to his son than Kevin himself. He looked handsome, you couldnât deny that, with his black hair and dark blue, perfectly sitting suit. You also noticed that he didnât look too excited to stand there. Interesting.
âWelcome to the annual Bang charity gala! I am happy to see so many faces â well, technically I canât see you but I appreciate every single one of you!â, Kevin said enthusiastically which earned him hearty laughs from the audience. You rolled your eyes. âYou for sure have been wondering where the money goes to this year! This year, we are donating the money of this beautiful gala to a brand-new hospital! With the money you donate every year we can build a completely new hospital where everyone can be treated! The best thing about the hospital?â, he started and showed a picture of the future hospital that was projected behind him. âWe will get the best doctors! Anything for our residents of Seoul!â
The crowd cheered and clapped politely. The rich were delighted. âLetâs see how much money we can gather tonight!â
You scoffed at his stupid smirk. âWhat a freaking liar, the money doesnât even arrive there.â, you whispered angrily.
The event kicked off, classical music was playing in the background. Since the theme was âmasqueradeâ the guests started waltzing in pairs. It did look very appealing but it felt like this wasnât your world. In fact, this was not your world. You sometimes wished it was. Not worrying about anything, especially money. You knew you could never fit in.
You then got up looking around. Security was everywhere. Then you spotted Felix who walked up to you. âHey, sorry, Iâm late. These rich people never stop drinking.â, he sighed, clearly exhausted as he pushed his blonde hair back.
âItâs fine the event just started. How can I get out of here without security noticing?â, you asked him, feeling the fear inside you coming up.
âJust walk next to me. As long as you donât act suspiciously nothing will happen.â, he assured you and walked you to the employee changing rooms. You noticed a few glances from some security guards but nobody stopped you.
As you were getting dressed, Felix spoke up. He was hiding behind some lockers so you could dress in peace. âBut Y/N⊠what if you get caught? How do you plan on getting out of here after doing that stunt?â
You sighed, âI need to do everything step by step, Felix. First, I need to get to the tech room and make sure that everyone out there can here hear me. Then I will decide what to do. But I wonât get caught.â, you told Felix while putting on your red dress that had lace details on the top part. It wasnât tight but still looked really nice. It was a rather flowy dress and you could breathe in that dress. It looked expensive enough for the elite of Seoul. Good thing that you can rent dresses. You then put on some red lipstick and put your mask on that covered nearly your entire face except for your lips. You were unrecognizable, especially since you looked like a zombie normally.
As you turned the corner to meet Felix his eyes widened for a moment. âWow, you look nice! I bet you will fit in without any problems!â
You smiled at him and then squeezed his cheek. âAww! Thank you, Felix. Iâm really nervous⊠but I have to do this.â
He looked at you with a worried expression, âPlease, be careful, alright?â
You nodded and quietly exited the dressing room. Some people sat at their assigned seats, others were talking about the event. The music was loud but the atmosphere was alright. For now.
You decided to join a group who were talking. They were two women who were gushing about how extravagant this gala was. They were wearing expensive designer dresses.
âI love the gold details in the decoration.â, one of the women, the one who wore a black mask, said.
âI wish they would serve some more seafood. The buffet is horrible.â, the other one said, sighing. Wow.
âBut no matter what Mr. Bang does, his galas are still the best!â, black mask spoke up again.
âI donât get why everyone likes him so muchâŠâ, you spoke up, taking a glass of champagne from a waiter that was walking by.
The women looked at you, a look of confusion in their eyes. âWhy would you say that? Everyone loves him.â, black mask said, defending the man.
You sighed. âI heard that he's a real asshole in reality. Ever heard of when he bulldozed an orphanage for his new hotel?â, you told them.
They gasped in shock. âHe would never do something like that, would he?â
âWell he paid the media so word couldnât get out.â, you told them.
Then they started discussing if this was real or not. That was what you did for the first hour. While there was some show on the stage, you trash talked Kevin Bang. While some people didnât even listen to you, others were saying that they had assumptions about him. Kevin Bang was a smart man. He wouldnât show his real face to anyone.
As you were looking around the room, you felt something or rather someone staring at you. Now that you think of it, you felt that even earlier. Then you saw that in fact someone was staring at you. That suit and mask⊠He looked really familiar. He walked up to you and held out his hand. âWould you like to dance with me?â
You were surprised and didnât know what to do. âUh, Iâm not really a dancer.â
âJust follow my lead, you will be fine.â, his butter smooth voice assured you. Damn it.
You then took his hand and followed him to the dance floor. He put one hand on your waist and his other hand held yours. You wondered why he asked you out of all people. You carefully followed his steps, trying not to embarrass yourself.
âSo, whatâs your deal? Who are you?â, he grumbled, his eyes dark.
âThis is a masquerade, isnât it? Why would you ask me that?â, you told him, slightly surprised by his sudden change of attitude. What was he trying to do?
âI heard you talk shit about my father. What the hell are you even doing here if you hate him that much, huh?â
Your eyes widened. Of course, he was Kevin Bangâs son! You recognized him from earlier. âWhy do you act like everyone in this room loves him? As if I am the only person who dislikes him.â
He tightly squeezed your hand and waist to symbolize his seriousness. âOh, really? You donât know him. He is a businessman, sometimes he has to make sacrifices like relocating an orphanage.â
So, he was listening to you. Interesting. âYou call that relocating? You donât know shit.â, you said in an annoyed tone.
âAnd you know that better than his own son?â
It was your turn to give him a tight squeeze on his shoulder. âYeah, I actually have my sources.â
You were dancing in circles and his gaze bore into yours. You would find it cute that he tried to defend his father if he wasnât Kevinâs son. âI will find out who the hell you are. I bet you are one of the Leeâs. You guys are always jealous of us.â
You sighed. âI am so jealous of you and your life. Oh, fuck off. You know, I donât have to like you or your father. And here I thought I would dance with a gentleman.â, you said, trying to sound disinterested.
The music finally came to an end and you looked at the man in front of you. âIt was not nice to dance with you. Letâs not do that again.â, you said and turned your back, walking away from him.
âWait! Who the hell are you?â, Chan shouted, gaining a few looks from the crowd. But before he could follow you, you were lost in the crowd.
You tried to go through busy crowds and then tried to find a way to go to the computer/tech room. You decided that it would be best if you pretended to search for a bathroom or something, so you sneaked upstairs without anyone noticing you for now.
It was time. Time to get revenge. Time to show the world who the real Kevin Bang was. Time to shine.

in which i say fuck the sparrow academy and dump 1300 words of angst because iâm not over it.Â

Five days after Ben saves the world, thereâs a knock on Klausâs door. He hasnât really left his room since they got back to 2019, sometimes venturing out for food or another bottle of Dadâs booze, but he hasnât spoken to his siblings.Â
Theyâre all staying at the Academy for a while, save Allison who went back to LA to see Claire as soon as she could. Diego and Vanya will probably be leaving soon, too, and then itâll just be Klaus and Luther and Five.Â
He should be happy. They saved the world twice over, all in one fell swoop. Everything is back the way it was. He finally has some peace and quiet - something heâs been searching for his entire life.
Thing is, Klaus kind of hates the quiet.
Quiet means Ben is really gone. He forgets sometimes, and goes to say something, a, âHey, Ben,â slipping from his lips before the silence drags out and Ben is gone.
So he gets drunk. He plays loud music and ignores his siblings because they donât get it. How could they? They did their grieving thirteen years ago, or seventeen, depending on how you look at it.Â
Five days after Ben saves the world, four days after they come home, thereâs a knock at Klausâs door. He doesnât answer, hopes whoever it is will go away, but the knocking just becomes more insistent, driving spikes into Klausâs head.
âKlaus, open the damn door,â Diego calls, impatient. Klaus rolls his head to stare at the door but doesnât move otherwise. Easier, he thinks, just to wait for Diego to let himself in.
A minute later, he does. He raises an eyebrow at the empty bottles scattered around the room, at Klaus slumped on the bed, but doesnât appear otherwise surprised. Maybe Klaus would be offended by that if he could even feel anything right now.
âCome on, Klaus,â Diego says, voice unbearably soft this time. âDinnerâs ready, and you havenât eaten and - Jesus, Klaus, have you just been existing on booze since we got back?â
Klaus shrugs. Turns away from Diego. âJust leave me alone.â
âIâm not leaving until you get your ass out of bed,â Diego says. His hand lands on Klausâs shoulder and for a second Klaus can pretend itâs Ben. But the hand is too heavy and too big and the grip too tight as it tries to pull him up and out, and Klaus tries to fight against it.Â
Problem is, Diego is far stronger than Klaus. He yanks Klaus into a semi-upright position, scowling at him now. âYou know,â he comments. âBen wouldnât want this for you.â
And Klaus sees red. âFuck you, asshole!â he yells, summoning all his strength to shove Diego away. âYou donât know what Ben would want, you donât know shit about him!â
There are tears stinging Klausâs eyes and Diego looks like he just slapped him across the face. Klaus would feel bad, but now his anger is draining out of him, leaving his chest yawning and empty. Benâs disapproving face mocks him in his periphery, but Klaus blinks and he is gone, really gone, Ben is gone.
Klaus sighs and slumps against the wall. âHe would be so pissed at me,â he says quietly, just as Diego turns to leave. âYou know I was sober for three years back in the 60s? Fell off the wagon just after I met Allison.â
Diego half turns towards him, body still tight with anger. Klaus canât blame him for that. âOh yeah?â he asks, voice carefully controlled. âWhat happened?â
âOh, you know,â Klaus says airily, waving a lazy hand. âLost love, 60âs homophobia. The usual.â
Diego doesnât seem to know how to respond, his mouth opening and closing like a fish. âThe sucks, bro,â he gets out eventually.Â
Klaus scoffs. âYeah.â
âAndâŠâ He shuffles awkwardly, hands clenching and unclenching at his sides. âIâm sorry about Ben.â
Something breaks in Klausâs chest, an overwhelming pain erupting in his chest. He squeezes his eyes shut and curls into himself, tears beginning to slip down his cheeks. âIâm sorry, too,â he chokes out. âI shouldnât have said he wasnât there, I should have - I could have manifested him.â
âWhat?â Diego breathes.Â
Klaus nods, a sob escaping him. âAll those years we were together, he missed all of you. He hated being a ghost, hated that I was the only one he could talk to. I think he even hated me sometimes.â
âKlaus -â
âHe was right to,â Klaus interrupts. âI was an asshole, and he was too, that was why I didnât say anything. I wanted to get back at him. But now heâs gone, and he never even got to talk to you all, and itâs my fault, Diego, why did I do that?â
Diego is silent for a long time, so long that Klaus begins to suspect heâs left. Normally, he relies on Ben to tell him these things, but thatâs the point of the silence, isnât it?
âWellâŠâ The floorboards creak, making Klaus jump as Diego comes to sit next to him. âI got to talk to him, you know? When he was -â
âPossessing me, yeah.â Klaus sighs again, looking up at Diego. âHe shouldnât have done that.â
Diego frowns. âHe - What?â
âI didnât want him inside me,â Klaus explains tiredly. âCan you imagine, having your body violated so...thoroughly? And by your dead brother, no less? I let him in for a little while because I felt bad for him, you know? The guy just wanted to talk to a girl, but then things got weird and you showed up, and I told him to get out of me but he wouldnât. Fucking hell, Diego, it hurt.â
Diego looks suddenly guilty. âI told him to stay inside you,â he whispers, horrified. âShit, Klaus, Iâm sorry, I- Is that what happened at the bar with Dad?â
âYeah, except he didnât warn me that time. Asshole.â
âBen was always the nice one,â Diego says. âWhen we were kids. Hard to believe he would do that.â
Klaus shrugs. âNot really. Being dead did wonders for his personality.â
Diegoâs got that look on his face - not-quite guilt, not-quite grief, but somewhere between the two. âHe sounds like a prick,â he says after a long while.Â
Klaus laughs, mixed with a sob. âYeah. Yeah, he was,â he says. âHe would have fit right in with the rest of us.â
âYeah.â There are tears in Diegoâs eyes now, and Ben smiles in the corner of Klausâs eye. Then Klaus blinks, and the smile is gone with the rest of him.
âHow do you do this?â he asks Diego. He waves his hand - Goodbye - and hopes Diego will understand.Â
âDo what?â
No luck, then.
Klaus chews on his lip, fingers tangling in his bedsheets. âYou know. Move on. Say goodbye. Iâve never⊠Not even with Dave, but Iâve never had to - you know - with Ben. Heâs just always there. And nowâŠâ
âNow heâs not,â Diego finishes quietly. He takes a trembling breath. âMan⊠I donât know. It takes time. But we can help you through it. If you come down for dinner.â
Diego stands and holds his arm out to Klaus. Klaus stares at him in disbelief. âYouâre a dick, you know that, right?â
Diego shrugs. âMakes two of us. Come on, you canât change what we did back then, but maybe you can make up for it by telling us all about Ben.â
Klaus hesitates. He eyes up Diegoâs arm, then glances at Benâs corner. Itâs empty, but of course it is.
Ben is gone, after all.
Klaus waits a second more, letting the hurt overwhelm him for a second, hurt over Ben and Dave, both dead, both gonegonegone. Ben is gone to a place even Klaus canât reach, and heâs not sure he could summon Dave if he tried (and, oh, how heâs tried), and all heâs got left is memories.Â
Benâs smile. Daveâs laugh.Â
Benâs bitching. Daveâs embrace.Â
Memories. His to keep. His to share.Â
He takes Diegoâs arm.

bangs pots and pans together loudly FIC UPDATE COME GET YALL SOME JUICE
Apparently the vital, missing component to enjoying school was having a friend there. Go figure.
He and Kevin only have that first period class together, but they make the most of it, passing notes back and forth between the two of them, the teacher too tired that early in the morning to notice, or care. Lunch isnât depressing anymore. They sit together under the shade tree, and Kevin does seem to also appreciate the view. âCan you even imagine working up a sweat, on purpose?â Betelgeuse pats his gut. âYou know I canât.â
âI canât believe how little the track shorts are. Thatâs obscene. You think Iâd look good in them?â âYou join track and Iâll come to every meet, anâ it wonât be for thâ love of thâ sport.â He doesnât think normal friends talk to each other like this, but he doesnât actually know. Does everyone flirt with their friends? Are friends just cool people you wanna fuck but havenât yet? Is it demon hormone bullshit, making him read into everything? Unclear.
Itâs all going so good, until it isnât, suddenly.
One lunch, two months into being there, Kevin pulls a huge and impressive old book from his backpack. âLook what I goooot,â he sing songs, waving it in Betelgeuseâs face, and he sneezes in response. âSmells old.â Emily and Lydia would love it. âIt is. Itâs very old,â Kevin confirms, and he moves so heâs sitting next to Betelgeuse, shoulder to shoulder, both their backs to the shade tree. âItâs about demons.â
Betelgeuse loses interest immediately, and focuses on not going pink at their shoulders touching, instead. âZâat so?â he grunts. Kevin doesnât seem to pick up on his moodiness, though. âIt talks about all these ancient beings,â he explains, flipping pages. âTheir summoning circles, their aspects,â he gives Betelgeuse a nudge at that, âall the things they can do for you, and the boons they grant.â He feels uncomfortable. âWhatâs with this? You obsessed with me, or somethinâ?â He tries to play it as a joke, but that glint in Kevinâs eyes is back, and he doesnât like it. âOf course, who wouldnât be obsessed if they learned all this shit is actually true? Itâs like thereâs a whole secret world behind a locked door, and Iâve got the key.â Kevin looks back up at him.
He gets the feeling heâs the key. Itâs not a good feeling.
âWhereâd you even get this fuckinâ thing?â he lifts a finger, and the book slams closed in Kevinâs lap. His friend huffs. âInternet, of course.â âNo, I mean⊠why were you lookinâ for somethinâ like this?â âI want to learn more. Donât you?â Kev presses, and reopens the book. âI mean, what if thereâs something amazing you can do, and you just donât know, cause youâre not bothering to try?â
âSo Iâll never know, so what?â Betelgeuse feels like this is a losing argument, but he tries anyways. âWhatâs so great about beinâ weird? Youâre lucky youâre human.â âDude, donât even start with that. You can fly.â âSo can humans,â he points out. âWh- A plane and fucking levitating for fun are not the same, and you know it, BeetleJerk.â Kevin honestly canât understand why heâs not excited over this. âI just mean⊠Iâd rather be human, than this.â He blinks at his own words, because heâs never expressed that out loud before, ever. But it doesnât feel untrue. âYouâre out of your mind, more so than usual. Every human alive wants to feel special, and do the stuff you can do. Why are you acting like itâs so miserable all of a sudden? You use your powers all the time, Iâve seen you literally teleport five feet because youâre too lazy to walk.â
âYou donât get it.â Heâs feeling sullen now, and he wiggles a little away from Kevin, and crosses his arms. âBJ, come on-â Betelgeuse teleports away to under the bleachers, and he eats his lunch there, until the bell rings.
Heâs waiting for Emily after school, not feeling particularly friendly, when Kevin approaches. They stand there awkwardly. It feels tense, and weird, and he waits to see what the breather does. âDonât be mad,â Kevin says, finally. âMânot mad.â âYou sound mad.â âYou know what mad on me looks like,â he finally turns to look at his friend, amber eyes burning with irritation. âFirst hand.â
Kevin looks down, and kicks at a rock that might not actually be there. âI thought youâd be excited. BJ, come on, I donât wanna.. Not be friends over this.â
Betelgeuse signs, and scratches at the scruff on his chin. âItâs not like that,â he relents after a moment. âI just, I donât care about that stuff. Anâ I donât wanna sit around, focusinâ on it. I donât exactly like feelinâ different. Yeah, I do tricks anâ use my magic anâ stuff, but itâs hard to control. I lose my temper once anâ I could seriously destroy somethinâ, or hurt my family. It doesnât exactly feel good, knowinâ that. No one else my age can stand me, cause they can tell Iâm weird. Before you, it was fuckinâ lonely, Kev.â
He feels a familiar pressure, because Kevin has taken his hand, and the human gives it a squeeze. He accepts it, melting a little against the other boy. âStill friends?â Kevin asks, and Betelgeuse purrs in response, resting his head on Kevinâs shoulder.
Itâs not till later, at home, that he realizes Kevin never actually apologized.

Itâs like that, for a while. He knows Kevin still has the book. He knows heâs reading it, and sometimes Kevin will bring up demon stuff, but Betelgeuse has almost exactly a minute and a half of patience for answering questions or hearing about it. Still, Kev doesnât stop. He might feel angrier if the breather wasnât so god damn cute.
The air is starting to go cold, and leaves are beginning to fall. October is settling in, getting comfortable, and momâs starting to break out the Halloween dĂ©cor. Itâs the middle of a kind of gloomy, Autumn day, when things get weird.
Kevin has the book open, much to Betelgeuseâs annoyance, and heâs blabbing away about a demon that supposedly grants wealth- âDo you think you could do that?â -when Betelgeuse looks down at the book, and sees Juno looking back at him. Itâs not really her, itâs an illustration, but heâd recognize the bitch anywhere. Sheâs ink, glaring up from the page, those same age lines etched into her face, confirming his private theory that sheâd been an old hag even when she was young. The slit neck is prominent, and as he stares, he sees smoke billow out of it. Oh, fuck no.
He grabs the book and slams it shut, startling Kevin, and then he teleports it directly under them, a mile down in the rock of the earth. Kev blinks for a moment, confused, before looking at his friend. âWh.. Dude, WHAT?â
âPossessed book,â he croaks out, feeling tense, because he can smell cigarette smoke. âAnd youâre afraid of it? Why? You are also a literal fucking demon!â âThatâs why Iâm not messinâ with it!â Betelgeuse stands up, uneasy. The ground around the tree feels weird, now. âMe deficient? Seriously?â Kev snaps, which hurts in a new, unexpected way. âWhatever, asshole. Give me my book back.â Kevin stands up, too, but heâs not uneasy, heâs angry.
âItâs better off where it is.â
âWhich is where?â
Betelgeuse glances down. The grass around the tree is starting to wither. Kevin follows his gaze, but doesnât seem to notice the dying vegetation. âYou buried it? Come on!â
âLeave it, Kev.â
âThis isnât just your cool secret, anymore, itâs mine too!â Kevin glares at him. âYou canât keep me out of it, BJ. Thatâs not fair. God, at this point, I know more than you! You should be listening to me!â
He feels his volatile temper flare.
âEx-fuckinâ-scuze me?â
He waits for Kevin to take it back. Instead, his friend doubles down. âDemons have to listen to humans,â Kevin crosses his arms. âIf theyâre summoned. Itâs in the book.â âNobody summoned me,â Betelgeuse snarls, letting his real snake eyes show, an intimidation tactic that works for about half a second. Kevinâs too used to him, at this point. âIâm up here on a deal.â âBet I could do it. I bet I could summon you. Then youâd have to listen to me.â âYeah? Well, good luck without your stupid book!â He storms off, leaving Kevin standing there.

The rest of the day sucks. Heâs moody all day, annoyed in the car, grumpy in his room. He cranks metal and wishes heâd learned to play a guitar instead of his rinky, happy sounding ukulele. The instrument isnât going to produce the noise he wants to express himself, right now. He throws it across the room, into a wall, where it smashes, and reforms a minute later, because⊠itâs still his favorite, after all. Even if itâs no good for expressing his teenage angst.
He can hear shuffling, and talking, outside his room, though he canât make out whatâs being said over the music. After a moment, though, thereâs a knock at his door. âHey, Bug?â Emily calls. âCan you come give me a hand with something?â He wants to tell her to piss off, go away, to leave him the hell alone, but.. Itâs Emily. The CD player lets out a strangled choke and suddenly stops, and the door swings open, all without him moving from his flopped position on the bed. âSup, ma?â he grunts. Emily peaks her head into the room, and smiles when she sees him, the expression radiating warmth and adoration and.. Oh, God/Satan, bless his sunbeam of a mother. âJust wondering if youâre free to do a little decorating?â She reaches behind her and grabs a fake severed bloody limb from the box he assumes sheâs dragged into the hallway from the attic. âDonât you worry it takes away from the âwow factorâ to do Halloween twice a year?â He asks, standing and stretching, before apparating in the hallway behind her, and giving the decor box a nudge with his boot. âWhat? No way, thereâs never enough Halloween!â Emily grins. âGet that, please.â The box floats along behind him as they head downstairs. They pause in the entryway, as Emily thinks out loud. âSo, maybe the kitchen should be-â âFunctional as a kitchen, please,â Charles calls from the living room. Emily rolls her eyes. âOkay, fine! Spoilsport! Weâll focus on the entryway for now,â she decides. âYou wanna put up cobwebs in the rafters?â She gets on tiptoes to reach into the floating box, and he lowers it a bit for her, as she grabs the fake webbing. âI could just instantly decorate the whole room,â He takes to floating next to the box. âCould make sure itâs all normal human stuff, too,â He adds, before she can respond. âI know you can⊠But I like decorating,â Emily says brightly. âItâs not about getting it done quickly. Itâs about, you know, doing it together.â âSo why are dad and Lydia slacking?â Her smile doesnât falter, but becomes softer. âIt kinda felt like you needed some mom time, today,â She says simply. God, she can read him easier than Kev can read his stupid book. âWe got in a fight,â he admits. She hums at that, because he only has one friend. Itâs not hard to guess who he could possibly mean. âIâm sorry, Bug. What over?â He hesitates. So far heâs not let any of his family in on this book business. Heâs been sort of hoping it could just go away on itâs own, and not be a thing. Kevinâs made it into a thing, though, and not telling even his mom feels⊠bad.
âHeâs really into demons. Like, really, really into em,â He rasps, floating up and beginning to put up the spiderwebs, as his mother takes down the usual, sort of spooky wall hangings and trades them for her very intentionally spooky Halloween ones. âHeâs got this book, anâ itâs all about demons anâ like, how to summon them, anâ their powers, anâ stuff⊠Sometimes thâ way he talks, itâs like.. Are we friends cause weâre friends, or friends cause you think Iâm gonna be... useful?â
Maybe that doesn't make any sense, but thatâs how itâs been feeling, like thereâs an invisible shoe hanging midair, and itâs about to drop. His mother waits until heâs finished before looking up at him. âAnd you fought over that?â She prods. âNot exactly.â How the fuck can she even tell that, though? Damn her mom powers. He really, really didnât want to talk about this, not to her, but⊠âI saw Juno. In thâ book,'' He lowers back down to the floor, and digs through the box, pulling out fake body parts. Back up he goes, to stick these in the fake webbing. âIt was just a drawing of her, but it started like.. Billowing smoke-â
âFrom the neck,â His mother remembers, suppressing a shudder.
âYeah. I could smell the smoke. So I got rid of the book, buried it in thâ school yard, but Kev got all pissy about it. He thinks heâs an expert on this shit, anâ heâs gonna mess with somethinâ big if he keeps this up.â âIâm sure youâve told him that.â âHe doesnât listen. He gets this look in his eye, like itâs a game, or like⊠I dunno. Feels sometimes like he thinks heâsâŠâ He searches for the words. âLike he thinks he oughta be the boss aâme, or somethinâ.â
He rubs absentmindedly at the moss on his nose. It clings, stubborn as ever, same with the patches by his hairline, and heâs found itâs easier to just add another little layer to his glamour than try to do anything about it.
Maybe thatâs indicative of a bigger problem. Itâs easier to do a bit of magic and make everything look better than to actually fix the underlying problem. Ugh, introspection, how absolutely miserable. He wants to keep thoughts like that locked away tight, but they have a habit of slipping past his mental defenses and making him feel worse. Absolutely no one can make him feel shittier than he himself can. He sinks to the ground, going purple, and heâs instantly wrapped in his motherâs arms. âItâs okay, Beetlejuice,â Emily has both her hands on the back of his head, and he pushes his face into the crook of her neck. âI just.. Iâve only got the one friend,â he groans. âI donât wanna stop beinâ his friend, but.. Fuck, ma.â
âI know.â Her voice is a soothing balm. She works her hands through the mess of purple hair at the back of his head. âI know, sweetheart. I know itâs lonely at school, but school isnât forever,â she tries to assure him. âIf your friend is treating you this way, well.. Heâs not a very good friend. Do you want to be around someone who makes you feel this bad? Does it feel worth it, to you?â
He knows the correct answer is, âNo,â but heâs not sure if his self esteem is high enough for that.
âI like him a lot,â He grumbles, and she hums again. âHeâs handsome,â She says, and then pulls back far enough to pinch his nose. âBut not as handsome as my son, of course,â and itâs silly enough to help knock away his mood, so thatâs something, at least. âWhat should I do?â He doesnât pull away from her, just soaks up the mom energy for as long as he can. âI think you need to have a talk,â Emily tells him. âLay out how youâre feeling. Try to get his side of things, and make sure he hears your side, too. Then, at least you both tried, you know?â
Itâs such a mom type answer. He groans again.
âI was worried youâd say some shit like that.â She fuzzes his hair, and he feels the tingle in his scalp that means itâs changed colors. Back to green, he assumes. âYou know your moss changes color along with your hair? And your creepo-stache?â âLeave the stache alone, itâs tryinâ itâs best,â He pretends to be defensive.
âIt makes you look like the founder of a forum for people who marry their cars,â Lydia offers, from the bottom step of the staircase, where she has apparently been just chilling and listening.
âWh-! Mom, itâs not that bad, right?â Emily tilts her head to the side and gives what can only be described as a condescending smile. âOh, youâre both in for it now.â He brings the various decor items to life to terrorize them, and then Charles joins his side, sympathizing with his son vis-Ă -vis bad teenage facial hair, and by the time the whole squabble is over, hardly any decorating has gotten done⊠But he does feel better. His familyâs good like that.

Monday rolls around, same as it always does, but thereâs a weird feeling in the air. Halloween is a week away, barely missing getting a weekend date, but thereâs some big Halloween bash the school is apparently throwing. Thereâs fliers for it everywhere, plastered all over lockers and bulletin boards. Heâs not much of a participator, though, and his reaction to his locker being plastered over with invites to a party he doesn't care about is to snap his fingers. All the fliers on all the lockers up and down the hall, all instantly fall loose at once, littering the floor. A few students jump back, but no one looks his way, because why would they?
Heâs grabbing his history textbook when he feels a tap on the shoulder, and when he turns, itâs a girl he recognizes, but her name is absolutely lost on him.
âYouâre BJ, right?â Miffy askes, and he nods. âYeah, sâright,â and Margo seems to wince at how gruff his voice is, before continuing. âUm, you and that guy Kevin, youâre likeâŠâ Milicent trails off, waiting for him to finish her thought, but sorry, baby, he can barely finish his own. âLikeâŠ?â He says, with his gravel voice copying her tone and inflection, and she huffs. âTogether?â Marge asks, âLike, all of the time?â
He cocks his head, and squints at her, hands t-rexing at his sides, as Lydia likes to say.\
âUsually,â He concedes, and he gets the feeling heâs dragging this out much, much more than Mango clearly wants, because he spies a group of girls a little ways off, waiting for her. One of them is staring intently, more focused on him, but he pushes that thought aside.
âLook, okay, heâs gonna be out for a few days, and Iâm just trying to see if you can take him his homework,â McGrubber has grown tired of having to stand here, talking to the chubby goth loser, apparently. âIâm a student aid in the office and theyâre trying to make me do it, but I have track practice!â Thaaaatâs where he knows her from. She looks different, not bouncing and sweating and also not half a football field away. âSure, fine, Iâll make sure Kev gets his work. Wouldnât want you to miss out on running in a fuckinâ circle, Maria.â Her face sours. âItâs Blair.â So close. âWho fuckinâ cares,â He replies, and turns back to his locker. He can hear her rejoin her friend group, all of them fawning over her harrowing experience of having to speak to him in public. The last thing he hears from Blair is, âHeâs just so goddamn weird,â and then the group rounds the corner.
He closes his locker harder than he maybe needs to.
Kevin isnât in class that day, or the next, or even the one after. The shade tree has withered and died completely, itâs color sapped and gone, and even walking near it makes him feel uneasy. His new lonely lunch spot is under the bleachers, which feels even more voyeuristic of a spot to watch the track team, but even that activity feels tainted, somehow. Heâs back to being lonely.
He canât stand being lonely.
It gets so bad he contemplates sitting, wait for it, on the bleachers, and maybe even trying to strike up a conversation, but heâs too chicken shit. Heâs been going to school with these kids for the past three years, and no oneâs wanted to talk to him or chat with him in all that time. He canât imagine thatâs about to change.
Still, on Thursday, miserable and lonely, he gives it a try.
Sitting up here sucks. Itâs just a hard metal seat on a gloomy day, and when heâd ventured up and sat down, other people had slowly moved away from him, until he was sitting by himself, all the breathers huddled in a different area, away from him. He'd tried talking, but hardly had a "Hey, how ya doin'?" grated out before the migration began.
Figures.
He finishes eating and lies on his back, resting his hands on his chest, eyes closed, and after a while he feels someone standing over him, and something laid over his hands. He opens his eyes. Thereâs the most beautiful girl staring down at him. Sheâs got long, bleach blonde hair, darker at the roots, which is hanging down in a halo around her face, and the biggest, clearest blue eyes heâs ever seen. He glances down, to see sheâs placed a daisy over his hand. He looks back up at her, amber eyes questioning.
âYou looked so still,â She smiles. Her voice is like music. He thinks he can hear harps. âWith your hands folded like that. Kind of like an open casket.â Heâd been forgetting to breathe, apparently, which happens sometimes. She thought he looked like a corpse, and she placed a flower over him.
âSorry, if thatâs weird. Youâre.. BJ?â She asks, and he picks up the daisy, sits up, and nods. âYeah, youâreâŠâ âBarbara,â she fills him in. âYouâre not so good with names.â âMmm. Buffy tell you that?â He recognizes her now, from that group of girls. Barbara sits next to him, which makes zero sense. âItâs Blair,â she corrects him gently, but not without a giggle in her voice. âOh, right.â Her name could be fuckinâ Moonpie and itâd make the same amount of difference to him, but heâd agree with anything Barbara said, if it meant she kept sitting there, talking to him. âAre you going to the Halloween party?â She asks. âSupposed to be pretty killer. It kind of seems like your scene.â âIâm not exactly a social butterfly,â which is the understatement of the god damn century, honestly, but she laughs and nudges her shoulder with his. âWell, I think you should come. I bet youâd have the coolest costume. Maybe think about it?â
âI guess, maybe..â He says lamely, because his brain is short circuiting from that small touch.
âBarb, come on!â someone calls to her from a ways away, on the track. Lunch is nearly over. She stands, and smooths down the long skirt sheâs wearing, which is modest but flattering. âLater, BJ,â she smiles, and just like that, sheâs gone, like an angel going back up to heaven in a beam of light, off to rejoin her friends. He can hear what she says to them, though. âYou guys are mean, heâs not so bad. Just shy.â
He keeps the daisy in a little glass of water on his dresser, and strums love songs on his ukulele.

Thinking about Barbara and her smile and the way she nudged him is a fun distraction, at least for a little while, but when itâs Saturday, and he still hasnât heard from Kevin, he decides itâs time to demon up and see what the fuck is happening with him. Heâs been just teleporting Kevâs homework inside his room, and heâs sure itâs falling into a pile on the floor each time and startling him, but no one ever said how he had to deliver it. Today though, emboldened by the pretty girl on the bleachers, he appears at Kevinâs front door instead, holding Fridayâs work, and he knocks. It takes a moment, but Mr. Loh answers.
Betelgeuse hasnât had much chance to interact with Kevâs dad. He looks like a normal, tired dad, wholly unimpressive, and kinda short. Chuck could wrestle this guy to the mat, no problem.
âOh, BJ,â Mr. Loh says, and then glances at whatâs in his hands. âKevinâs homework? Thank you. Heâs holed up in his room⊠wonât come out.. Maybe,â and he suddenly looks hopeful. âYou two are friends. Maybe you can try talking to him?â
Well, thatâs what he was there to do anyways, so sure. âI gotcha, Mr. L,â he nods, stepping inside, and heading up the stairs and down the hall to Kevinâs room. The closer he gets to the door, though, the weirder he feels. Something stinks, figuratively and literally. It smells like⊠It smells like the waiting room. Itâs that same, veil is thin type air that he can smell on Halloween night, but how the fuck is he smelling it here? He bangs on Kevinâs door. âHey, Kev, itâs the B-Man,â he calls, trying to keep his tone playful, but he feels like heâs doing a poor job. What the hell is going on? âCome on, man, open up!â He tries again, when he receives no response. He thinks he can hear a shuffle behind the door. âDude, I will bust this fuckinâ door down,â He growls, all the play gone from his tone. âYou know I will. Better yet-â
He appears inside the bedroom, just in time for Kevin to slam shut the closet door. Kevin turns to look at him, back pressed to the wood. Thereâs a beat, both teens staring at each other, wide eyed, Betelgeuse in that weird way he does, and Kevin looking frazzled. âWhat,â the demon grates out, âthe fuck, are you getting up to in here? It smells like the netherworld, Kev.â Unfortunately, that makes Kevinâs face light up. âIt does? Oh my god, thatâs perfect! It must be starting to work!â He crosses the bedroom, going to his desk, where an old book is sitting open. Itâs not the same one he took from his friend, it canât be, that book is still a mile down in presumably solid rock. âAnother musty ass tome, great,â he growls, but Kevin ignores him, flipping through the book.
He hates feeling ignored.
A black and white striped arm sprouts from Kevinâs desk, and slams the book shut, which makes the breather turn and glare at him. âGet out of my room, BJ,â is all Kevin says, and Betelgeuse ignores that, instead crossing the floor to get a look at that book. âWhere thâ hell do you keep finding these fuckinâ things?â
âThis one I bought from a one armed man living out of a 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale,â Kevin recites. Betelgeuse squints at him, top teeth over bottom lip. âYouâre too gay to know what that means,â he says, plainly, and Kevin shrugs. âHe wouldnât stop talking about his stupid car. I now know more about that antique than I know about geography.â It feels fun, for a second, like this drama isnât happening, and theyâre just having a conversation. It doesnât last, though. He canât let Kev off the hook.
âSo you bought a second cursed book, this time from some amputee homeless guy, and youâre just, doing the rituals inside of it? And this seems like a super good idea to you?â
âIâm practicing,â Kevin replies.
âSo whatâs in the closet, Kevin?â
âGet out of my room, Betelgeuse.â
The way Kevin says his name is weird. It doesnât feel like how it normally feels when a breather says the full thing. He shakes it off, and gives his friend a defiant look, before waving a hand and throwing open the closet door. Thereâs a cleared spot, in the middle of the closet floor, and a fucking summoning circle in what smells like, âPigâs blood? Couldnât get human?â He turns to look at Kevin, who is glaring at him intently. He matches the look.
âBetelgeuse Shoggoth, get out of my room.â
That gets his attention. It feels like an invisible hand is pushing him, and he stumbles back out of the room, confused. âW-what?â Kevin is just standing there, staring at him, and Betelgeuse stares back, eyes wild. âYou motherfucker,â he hisses, eyes in snake slits, teeth sharp, claws extended. âYou wanna do that âreal nameâ bullshit with me? That the choice youâre makinâ here, Kev?â
Kevin doesnât even look phased. âIâm working on gaining a bit more control, but looks like that works, for now.â
âYouâre cracked!â Betelgeuse growls, absolutely furious. âYouâre really tryinâ to summon me? Are you out of your head!?â
âYouâre wasting your powers,â Kevin storms forward. âYouâre a supernatural being, and you go to school and play your stupid ukulele, and donât even try to do anything bigger. You could be stepping on everyone under you,â his former friend is going red in the face. âYou could be leading, you could be ruling, but you just jerk off in your room and play pretend at being human. But someone might as well profit, here. Why not me?â
âI thought.. I thought we were friends,â is all the demon can say, lamely, and Kevinâs smile is the meanest thing heâs ever seen on a breather. âOnce youâre fully listening to me, we can be friends again. Betelgeuse Shoggoth, get out of my house.â
He feels that same invisible pull, and he thinks maybe if he was stronger he could resist it, but a demonâs true name is like a lead on a dog, meant to control them, and unfortunately, Kevin has a tight hand on his leash. He makes it to the front door, and stumbles out, covering his face until he can calm himself enough to reapply his glamour.

Random Thought:
Daddyâs Money!Touya with a reader whose just a complete princess and is just lazy. She doesnât like getting out of bed unless Touyaâs gonna carry her. She wonât shower unless Touya showers with her, doesnât wanna eat unless heâs there to keep her company. The only way she does any of this alone is if itâs because they have to meet up with friends or family at some point during the day and Touya just absolutely cannot be there with her.
Touya obviously indulges her every desire, buys her whatever she wants, and he canât lie, itâs nice knowing where sheâs at a majority of the time. Sheâs propped up in bed by an assload of pillows heâs bought her, wearing whatever was closest to her(probably his shirt) just waiting for him to come back to bed. Sheâs also needy as hell, will ride Touya until she canât move her legs and then keeps going until Touya has absolutely no stamina left, at which point she just grinds against him even though heâs overly sensitive until she falls asleep or he scolds her. Touya also 10/10 has maids and stuff hired to keep the house stocked and clean so he spends a majority of his time in bed with the reader or out doing whatever it is Enji assigned him to make the family look good so heâll keep funding his lifestyle. Touya doesnât just always let reader have whoever she wants, heâs not above a few well crafted insults and some overstim or orgasm denial to put her back in her place.
Now, imagine Dabi with the same reader. He doesnât indulge her as much, still gets her pretty much anything she wants but makes her work for it. Teases her constantly, and is quick to snap at her if she pushes the whole princess thing too far. Will 100% moan and complain about doing all the cleaning but reader will be on her knees infront of him the second heâs done, so thatâs nice. He goes until he canât anymore in bed and if reader keeps trying to grind against him, he can and will break her down to a blubbering mess through insults and overly aggressive orgasming before going to shower because his skin is lowkey on fire from the friction of you rubbing against him.

i just really really really love the idea of touya being soft for this ONE (1) woman, just fucking loving how she desperately needs him oh-so-much, making him feel important, making him feel special, making him feel in control.
itâs heady, the unique power that comes with essentially being her caretakerâsure, he gives her nearly everything she wants, but HE has the power to take it all away just as easily. and no, they both know heâd never do this, adores her way too much to ever do such a thing, but itâs the concept, the potential that he could, if he really wanted to, that instills in him this intense, profound sense of power.
i am equally in love with the idea of dabi having a somewhat soft spot for ONE (1) woman and one woman only. he balances out those somewhat soft, unfamiliar and, quite frankly, annoying feelings with his teasing, but he also knows thereâs a part of her that likes it, too. he thinks she needs someone to come and put her in her place, to take care of her and remind her where she belongs and who she belongs to when she begins getting a little too bratty and demanding for his liking.
and i think, in at least some form, it would be reader that feels powerful in this relationship, because while dabi bitches and acts like a total asshole 80% of the time, he still without fail gives her almost everything she wants i also think sheâd secretly like it when she pushes him far enough to snap, almost playful in a way, but this could just be me projecting

For everyone it applies to in the Obey Me verse: What is their favorite position? Sort of inspired by my cuddle position ask, but also inspired by your headcanons for their dom/sub/top/bottom statuses.
I actually had to go back and reread my own post bc I am a jumbo dumbass.

The moon shone its dull glow on the earth as it was nearing its peak height, filling the dark places between street lamps down the stretch of road. Dally was walking ahead of her, close enough to protect her if something happened, but not close enough to have any sort of physical contact. He was angry, as was she. They were both having a good time at the Curtis house. The gang all gathered together as they did every so often, mostly playing cards or just simply enjoying the company of one another while the tv filled the background behind their conversations. This particular night, things ended up going sour. It was petty. Something not even worth getting angry about. Steve had gotten just a little bit too close to (y/n), and Dally lost it. His anger was dull in the beginning, taking small shots at her here and there, but when she started firing back harder, thatâs when he got even more angry. He left promptly after a screaming match, slamming the screen door behind him. She hurried after him because, for one she was mortified that she and Dally just had a huge, heated argument in front of every one. And two, Dally got out of control when his anger took over. She didnât want him getting into any trouble. Now here they were, walking down the sidewalk not saying a word to one another. âIâm takinâ you home.â Her heart lurched. That was different. Heâd usually offer to let her sleep at Bucks. Theyâd make up and everything would be okay. It was a cycle, a vicious one, but everything would always be okay in the end. This time was different though. âOkay.â She said quietly. He noticed her change in tone but didnât say anything. They remained silent for the rest of the walk to her house. She was too caught up in her own thoughts. The relationship had been going downhill for some time now. Heâd been less attentive, more aloof. She found she was fighting to get his attention sometimes. She was also tired of the constant arguing and bickering between them. It was quite frequent, too frequent to be healthy. He was wearing her down, and maybe it was time to cut him loose.It hurt her to think about it, but maybe it was in both of their best interests. It was weighing both of them down and it didnât seem to be progressing in any positive direction. They finally approached her house. Dally stopped beside the gate as she went to open it. She slowly swung it open and walked inside. Dally began to walk away without saying anything, but she stopped him. âDal, wait.â He stopped and turned around, his hands stuffed in his jacket pockets as he tried to look as nonchalant as possible. âWhat.â She sighed deeply before looking him in the eyes. âI canât do this anymore.â His expression changed as the words fell from her mouth. âThe arguing, the anger, itâs just too much for me now.â Tears brimmed her eyes as she tried her hardest not to cry. Dally didnât say anything, he just stood there looking everywhere but her. A tear escaped from her eye and rolled down her face. She quickly wiped it up before speaking. âYou ainât gonna say anything?â He wiped his mouth before talking. He looked irritated. âYeah. Youâre right. Iâll see you around.â He turned on his heels and started down the sidewalk again. She watched him walk away, escaping into the darkness. She turned around and sulked to her house. As she placed her hand on the doorknob, she heard Dally shout loudly before hearing smashing sound, followed by a car alarm. She quickly went into her house and went right to bed, wondering if she made the right decision. A few weeks had gone by and she was feeling much better. She was spending more time doing the things she loved, hanging out with friends and picking up some hobbies she had forgotten about. And she was happy. But a part of her missed him. She felt that they could have worked it out, and feelings of remorse crowded her mind whenever she thought about it. Maybe she had made the wrong decision. They didnât even discuss it, he just left angrily. But then thatâs when her mind went the opposite direction. He just left without saying anything. No discussion, no apology. He just walked away in a fit of rage. It was disheartening, and it was why a part of her thought she made the right decision. She and Pony decided to hang out that day. It was too nice to stay inside. The sun was shining brightly in the sky. Only a few white clouds lingered and the slight breeze that came every so often was just enough to cool them down from the Oaklahoma heat. They had walked around the neighbourhood and ended up at the park, laying down in the grass while they were discussing books they had just finished reading. Pony had just finished beaming about his most recent reading adventure when there was a sudden silence between the two of them. âCan I tell ya somethinâ (y/n)?â Pony said, changing his tone. âYeah, whatâs up?â She asked nervously, wondering what his question could have been. He sat up and crossed his legs, keeping them close to his chest with his arms wrapped around. âDally misses you. A lot.â He looked back down at her, but she sat up beside him. She was silent for a moment, thinking of what to say. âI miss him too, Pone. But the fighting and the anger was just too much.â She started toying with the grass beside her. âI donât think heâs ever gonna change. I felt like he hated me more than he loved me.â Pony chuckled a bit. âHe didnât hate you, it was the complete opposite. Dalâs just⊠really hot headed, you should know that.â He waited for her to reply but she remained silent. âHe really loves you, (y/n). A lot. He ainât been the same since you guys split. Heâs a lot quieter.â âThat ainât my problem anymore, Ponyboy.â She said flatly. âDid he put you up to this?â She questioned, looking him in the eye. âNo,â he began âIâd just thought Iâd see how you felt. We havenât heard from you in a while but we see Dal almost everyday.â âI miss you guys.â She sighed, ripping bits of grass from the ground and letting them fly out of her hands into the breeze. Pony stood up and held his hand out to her. âCâmon.â He said. She grasped his hand and he helped her up. âLetâs to back to my house, Iâm sure everyone will be happy to see you.â He started off towards his house âWhat if Dallyâs there?â She asked, following close behind. âI donât think he will be. But if he is, who cares? Everyone there is still friends with you.â He said reassuringly. It eased her a bit but she was still worried. She didnât want to see him, because if she did, all the old feelings would erupt back out of her heart, and she didnât want that. They arrived at the Curtis house. The noise of the tv could be heard from the porch. Pony opened the door and and to her surprise only two of the boys were there. Two-bit was on the floor, Johnny was on the couch. They were watching Mickey Mouse cartoons. Pony walked in, (y/n) followed after. âHey Pony, we was wonderinâ where you were.â Johnny said. âHey, (y/n).â He said after. âHi, Johnny.â She smiled. âTwo-bit?â Pony questioned forcefully. âOh, yeah, hi.â Two-bit replied, not taking his eyes away from the screen. âYou invite yourself into our house, least you could do is greet us when we come home. Especially when we find your lazy ass sitting here.â Pony jeered. âHey, watch yourself.â Two-bit said, looking over his shoulder at Pony. âHey, (y/n).â He said after, changing his tone into a kinder one. She and Pony sat on either side of Johnny on the couch, watching the show with them. A few hours had past when they heard someone running up the porch. They quickly burst through the door. âPonyboy?â Dally said, looking around the room before he saw his friend on the couch. He was about to continue but he noticed (y/n) beside Johnny. He froze, not knowing what to do. So he did what he knew best, and that was being an asshole. âPony, Johnny, lets go to bucks.â âWhat about me?â Two-bit whined, looking over his shoulder at Dally. âYeah you can come too.â He said. âCâmon boys, lets go.â He demanded, trying to hurry them along. âWhat about (Y/N)?â Pony asked in an irritated tone, not taking his eyes off the tv. An awkward tension filled the air as Dally stood in the open doorway, not knowing what to say. Johnny looked at Pony, then at Dally, silently enjoying the passive aggression. He looked at (Y/N) and shrugged. She spoke up, cutting the silence like a sharp knife. âItâs okay Pone, its about time I get home anyways.â She said, standing up. She walked over to the door, not looking at Dally, until he refused to move out of the way. She looked up at him with an annoyed expression. âCan you please excuse me,â she asked quietly. He sighed deeply and rolled his eyes. She thought he was going to move but he grabbed her arm and dragged her out of the house. âDal! What are you doing?â She exclaimed. âLet me go!â She tried to force her way out of his grip but he was too strong for her. Ponyboy stood in the doorway while he watched Dally drag her out of the fenced in area of their lawn. âDally, get back here!â he shouted before darting off after them. Johnny and Two-Bit ran out after him but stopped at the edge of the porch. âDonât worry, Ponyboy. Iâll have her back in one piece.â Dally shouted back, waving his hand at the boy. Pony stopped in his tracks at the end of the walkway. He figured he would give them time to talk. It would probably both do them some good. She was still trying to wriggle out of his grasp as they continued walking. He stopped when he figured they were far enough away from the boys that they wouldnât be able to hear them. Dally let go of her arm. She pushed him, but he barely moved an inch. âDallas Winston, donât you ever grab me like that again! You hear me?â She threatened. He laughed in response. âWhy are you laughing?â âI know you ainât mad at me.â She stopped immediately at those words. Dally was right, but she wouldnât give him the satisfaction. âI am. Now leave me alone. I donât wanna see you anymore.â He took a step closer, ignoring her request. âDally, donât.â She put a hand on his chest to keep him away. She faltered a bit when she felt how solid he was under her hand, but she wouldnât let herself become weak by affection to him anymore. But he kept inching closer, and her emotions were knocking at the wall she had put up and barricaded, which was about to completely crumble at any second. She gasped slightly when she was halted by the tall wooden fence behind her. There was nowhere else for her to go. He put his hands beside her head and lowered himself to meet her eyes. There was something different about him, he didnât seem as cold. He looked at her with remorse, his blue eyes radiating the emotion to her clearly. âIâm sorry, (Y/N). I ainât been treatinâ you right.â The words rolled off his tongue like honey, and that was the final blow. The wall crumbled. Emotion flooded over her and she wanted to cry, tears of relief, but she stopped herself as he continued talking. âI promise, itâll be different now. I ainât gonna do no wrong to you no more. Ever.â He stood up straight, reaching into his jacket pocket. âIâd been saving up to buy you this.â He held up a small gold ring with a small ruby decorated in the centre. It glittered beautifully in the light. âDal,â she said, He gently grabbed her hand and slipped the ring on. âW-why?â She looked up at him. Dally was a different man. He was being kinder to her, kinder than heâd ever been before. âWell, Iâd been planninâ to give it to you before, but we got into that big fight so I couldnât. But I still wanted you to have it.â She gazed back at her hand, unsure of what to say. Dally sighed. âListen, if this donât change anything itâs fine. I just thought I should apologize for everythinâ.â âWhy did you just walk away that night?â She asked abruptly. âI was angry.â He said. âMan, I love you, (y/n). I never felt this way âbout anyone before. I was angry you just wanted to give up.â âDal,â she began. âThe constant arguing and fighting was taking a huge toll on me. I wasnât happy anymore. We never talked about it either, just swept it under the rug and acted like it never happened, until it happened again.â she explained. âWhat changed, Dal?â âI dunno,â He said, his guard starting to build up again. She was entering sensitive territory and Dally still didnât want to let her in. âIf thereâs something wrong you needâa tell me.â She pleaded, taking a step forward. âIt donât matter, (y/n)-â âYes, it does! It does, Dal,â âIâm scared, alright?â He snapped. Anything we gotta go through, weâll go through it together.â Dally kept thinking about how he was the luckiest man in the world. Riddle
- Itâs your birthday? And you didnât tell him until now?!?! Riddle immediately starts barking orders at his dorm mates underlings to get a party organized, RIGHT NOW.
- Thank god for the third years who keep emergency stashes of party supplies in the dorm! They had the whole thing set up in little over an hour, complete with the birthday dishes and tea cups.
- Even luckier, the kitchen keeps a supply of tiered ice cream cakes just in case thereâs a last minute party (the staff doesnât want a repeat of the February 4th rampage, they had to remodal the kitchen after that) so there wasnât any need to wait! Riddle made sure you got the biggest piece he got the second biggest.
- Heâs a little upset that there isnât time to get you a formal present, but he tries to make up for it by instigating a variety of party games that he may or may not have threatened the other students a beheading if they didnât take part. Expect some croquet matches! Riddle thinks everyone loves croquet and wonât accept anything contrary to that belief.
- If nothing else, Riddle will unintentionally fill your birthday with laughter.
Azul
- âItâs your birthday, ey? Well, I suppose weâll have to do something special for you. Free of charge.â
- Free desert of your choice at the cafe!
- Donât worry, thatâs not the only gift you get from the miser. Azul gifts you with a âget out jail, freeâ card that will nullify any contract you make with him. It can only be redeemed once, so make sure itâs worth it!
- If youâre not already wearing one, heâll give you a birthday pin and put $50 on it. Azul might be a miser, but even he understands that you canât cheap out on a birthday!
Kalim
- âITâS YOUâRE BIRTHDAY?!?! FANTASTIC!!!! Hold up, I gotta go get a few things! Stay right there!â
- Hireâs an entire circus last minute to celebrate. Iâm not even joking. Kalim WILL make your birthday unforgettable, thatâs his primary goal!
- Will invite everyone in the school, yes even the professors, to celebrate at Scarabia unless you donât want him to.
- Is there anything youâve had your eyes on? Ask Kalim! Heâll buy you anything your heart desires, we all know he has the bank account to afford it.

- So, this might sound a little repetitive of my other headcanons, but Iâm pretty sure Vil treats everyone to a birthday spa-day. Itâs kind of a tradition for him, and one he enjoys giving as well as receiving.
- If you have time, Vil will take you shopping afterwards. Everything is on him, so go nuts! But, be prepared to receive some constructive criticism on anything you have your eye on.
- Not much of a shopper? Thatâs cool! Vil will be happy to take you to a botanical garden or something of the sort instead.
- Afterwards, youâre definitely going to a nice restraunt! The bill is on him, of course. It doesnât matter if you two are couple or anything, Vil simply wants you to enjoy your birthday to the fullest!
- Will also give you his most expensive self-care products as presents. If you are anything like me donât know how to use them, Vil will give you a little demo and a schedule for when to use each item.

- âI-Itâs your birthday? Erm....uh, happy birthday?â
- Heâs not entirely sure if he should do something for you, or if itâs too late to try. Heâs a nervous boy, please understand.
- If you have that birthday pin on heâll give you some money and call it good. If not, he might give you one of the cute lil robo cams heâs been working on for a little while.
- I suggest hiding the pin just to get the robot. Those things connect to your mobile device and can take better quality pictures than any digital camera known to mankind. Theyâre also way sturdier than drones and, again, way cuter!

- Lazy ass cat man isnât particularly proactive when it comes to birthdays. He doesnât feel obligated to give a gift or do anything special unless youâre a couple.
- If he knows itâll get a rise out of you, heâll offer to give you a kiss just to see your reaction. If it looks like youâll accept heâll laugh it off and tease you for wanting to swap spit with your charming upperclassmen. Heâs a sadistic asshole like that.
- Will probably send Ruggie to pick an actual gift from Mr.Sâs for you.
- Or stick a few bucks into your birthday pin. It all just depends on the circumstances.
Malleus
- âBirthday? Are you having a party?...No? Ah, good. Happy birthday.â
- Wants to make sure you didnât just forget to give him an invitation to your party. After assuring him that there wasnât one he relaxes and asks if youâd like one.
- Say yes and Mall will immediately use magic to cover the dormitory in streamers, balloons, and confetti. All of the second and third years know exactly what the appearance of the decorations mean, theyâll start pulling out the tea sets.
- Expect to spend a while dining with the Diasomnia members. Mall wonât let you leave until youâve tried all of the dishes he summons out of thin air, including the towering cake stood in front of you. The party is far more elegant than the Heartlabyul one, but still casual enough that you donât feel too out of place.
- Youâll find a gift at the foot of your bedroom door with a note from Malleus, wishing you a happy birthday and apologizing for not having your gift ready sooner. Inside is a gorgeous new cloak/dress/whatever article of clothing youâd like and in. You can tell itâs handmade and of the finest quality. Upon further inspection you might find that it has a few magical qualities, such as pockets with an endless amount of space or shimmering star patters that actually reflect the current position of the stars at this time of year.

If I Couldnât Find You
Tony was in a great mood. Heâd spent the previous evening with Pepper, and his morning with Rhodey over brunch. The two friends were just stepping out of Rhodeyâs favorite cafe in Manhattan when Tony got a call. He frowned when he saw the picture that flashed on his phone, swiping his screen immediately and putting it to his ear.
Rhodey raised an eyebrow, âWhoâs that?â
Tony glanced at Rhodey, âItâs Peterâs friend... Leeds, you and Pete are supposed to be at a museum; please tell me you havenât gotten yourselves in trouble.â
âOh. Uh. Sorry, Mr. Stark, sir, but I think Peter might be⊠We were outside waiting to be let into the museum this morning, and he heard something bad going down a couple blocks away. Said it sounded like a robbery? He hated just standing there listening, so he snuck off to check it out, but heâs still not back, and that was two hours ago, sir, and Iâm really worried. Iâve got a bad feeling; heâs got his phone turned off. I donât know what to do, Iâm so sorry, sir...â
Tony felt like heâd been doused with ice water. Rhodey edged closer to him, eyes narrowing in concern. Tonyâs mind was racing with possibilities, but he had a procedure for situations like this.
First, track the kid.
âFriday, track Peterâs suit and phone. Pull up the location when you have it.â Tony said without preamble, praying that the phone and suit and his kid were all in the same actual location. âLeeds, you did the right thing by calling me.â
âCan you⊠tell him to call me when you find him? Please.â Ned sounded distressed.
âYep, thatâll be on my list of things to tell him. Catch you later, kid.â Tony hung up as Friday pinged the locations for the suit and phone.
Locations, plural. The suit being in an alley a couple blocks from the museum where Peterâs class was meant to be that day, and the phone being forty miles north of that, in some abandoned packing-house, and Tony felt like he might vomit. Instead, he tapped his chest.
âHoney Bear, I need your help,â Tonyâs pleading eyes turned to Rhodeyâs, just before his suit formed around him, closing him off.

Tony was preparing his descent on the packing house when Rhodey called him.
âIâve got his backpack, and his suitâs here, Tones,â Rhodey reported. âBut, it sounds like Pete got himself in trouble. I spoke to a couple shop owners, they said the cops were here earlier responding to an anonymous call.â
âThat was Peter,â Tony informed him, âFriday told me heâd made a call, before his phone was turned off.â
âWell, the shop owner said he was being held at gunpoint - and a teenager came in to say the cops were on their way; tried to talk the gunmen into leaving. They did, but they made the kid go with them.â

âWell, surprise. I now know. Million dollar suit and he leaves it in his backpack. I swear to God, Rhodes, Iâm gonna...â Tony took a deep breath, âCan you just⊠Iâm gonna have Happy pick you up, and meet me at this location? What else did you find out?â
âNo problem; I got your back on this,â Rhodey told him. âAll I know is the cops are on the lookout for an unmarked white sedan. Surveillance cameras were unable to make out the license plate, and as you can imagine thousands of cars match that descriptionâŠâ
âI think I found it,â Tony told him as he approached a building. A dirty white car was sloppily parked near the side entrance.
âDonât kill anyone,â Rhodey ordered.
âNo promises.â
Tony eschewed all subtlety in favor of blasting his way inside. Fridayâs sensors indicated four adult males, and zero teenage idiots, inside. But the kidâs phone was there, and those men were his only lead. They started shooting first, but of course the bullets ricocheted off his suit. He registered a lot of yelling, but that didnât matter. He blasted two of them before grabbing the nearest asshole by the collar.
âListen, Dipshit, you have ten seconds to tell me what you did with the kid you kidnapped this morning.â
âWhoa - what kid? - Shit! Hey!â Tony lifted the man up so his feet could barely tap the floor.
âWanna try that again, Jackass? Because if heâs disappeared, then so do you -â
âNo, wait, we didnât do anything, that kid was crazy!â The man tried fruitlessly to loosen Tonyâs grip.
âThe hell are you talking about? Where is he?â Tony demanded. He didnât appreciate manâs use of the word was. âTwo seconds, and Iâm gonna rip off an arm.â
âYouâre insane! Put me down!â
âOne,â Tony snarled.
âHe jumped out of the car!â The man was practically crying at that point; probably recognizing how close Tony actually was to making very good on his threats. âWe were going over a bridge and he- he just jumped out! We- we- you gotta believe me, we didnât even touch him!â
Tony took a second to breathe. Peter was Spiderman. Peter could feasibly jump out of a moving vehicle and onto a bridge and still be ok. His kid could do that. In fact, maybe it was his best option to escape these assholes. Peter would be fine. Except, if he was fine, then where was he? Why hadnât he called anyone? He had to know by now that at least Ned would be freaking out. Peter wasnât the kind of kid to just make his loved ones worry like that. Uncertainty was gripping Tonyâs lungs like a vice.
One thing Tony did know for sure was he didnât feel any sympathy for the man crying in his vice grip. Peter wouldnât have been jumping out of cars at all if he hadnât been forced into one at gunpoint.
He pulled the manâs face close to his mask. âWhere?â
âWh-where?â
âWhere were you. When the kid. Jumped out. Of the goddamn car?!â
Sobbing, the man finally gave Tony an actual location, and he wasted no time incapacitating the crook, asking Friday to contact local law enforcement as he grabbed Peterâs phone from one of their pockets. Then, he was shooting like a rocket towards the kidâs last known location.

Tony called Rhodey in-flight.
âIâm sure heâs fine, Tones, the kidâs strong.â
âYeah. Yeah, I know he is. Just, get here soon as you can. Please.â
Tony slowed down when he approached the offending bridge. It was short, spanning over a lazy, shallow portion of a river. There was a decent amount of traffic, but it wasnât too bad. He had Friday scanning the area as he dipped under the bridge.
Nothing. There was nothing.
Considering it had been probably approaching two hours since Peter had escaped the moving car, Tony shouldnât have expected the kid to still be there. But, then where the hell was he? Tony flew along the bank. There was a golf course on one side and a strip mall on the other. Had Peter fallen in the river? Hit his head and drowned?
No, no, no, no. Come on Parker, I need a clue, here.
He had another minute of freaking-out searching, before a new call was being pushed through. Given Tonyâs calls were all filtered by Friday, he accepted it with a guarded hopefulness.
âThis is Stark.â
âH-hey, Mr. Stark! Uh, so a crazy thing happened, today. Um, please donât freak out - â
Tony sucked in a breath that he hadnât realized he was holding. Heâd been sick over the possibility of never hearing that voice again.
Thank God. Thank God.
âPete?! Where the hell are you? Are you hurt? Friday, track this call - take me there now. And, please get Rhodes and Happy the new coordinates... Kid? Hey, I need you to answer me, Pete. Are you hurt?â
âOh. Ok, this is not, uh, not freaking out.â
âParker, are you hurt?â
âNO! Iâm fine, Mr. Stark, I swear, itâs - OH, God, did Ned already tell you what happened?â Peter groaned miserably. âHe did, didn't he?â
Tony loved this kid so much, and he was going to kill him.
âTell me what? That you ditched school to interrupt a robbery, without the suit that I so lovingly crafted for you - to keep you safe - and that you were abducted at gunpoint and taken out of the damn city?â
âOh, yeah, well thatâs a lot more detail than I expected Ned to know aboutâŠâ
âRhodey, Happy and I have been searching for you since Ned called me an hour ago, which was apparently two hours after heâd last seen you. I just threatened to rip the arms off of someone, because I couldnât find you, Peter! What the hell would I do if I couldnât find you?â
âGod, Mr. Stark, Iâm so sorryâŠâ Peter sounded like he might be very close to tears, and Tony shut his mouth, clenched his fists, counted to ten⊠He saw Friday guiding his suit to the callâs location. It looked like some old payphone at a service station on the other side of the golf course.
âI really wouldâve called sooner, Mr. Stark,â Peter was saying, âbut they had my phone, and everyone I approached acted like I was gonna attack them or something, they yelled at me and some of them threatened to call the police, and I didnât know if theyâd believe me if I told them Iâd just been abducted, so I hid and looked for some spare change in the golf course, and then I found this really old fashioned pay phone...â
âOk, listen Pete, itâs ok, just breathe.â Tony was going to wrap this kid in bubble wrap. He was going to put a tracker in his watch, and in his shoes, and...
âSo, can you please maybe send Happy to come get me, sir, because I donât even have my wallet so I canât get on the bus, and May will actually murder me if she finds out that I ditched my field tripâŠâ
âIâm gonna get you, kid. Come on, you know Iâm gonna help you. I thought we were past this⊠Iâm almost there. So, just stay where you areâŠâ
He heard Peter sniff on the other end. âWait, are you in the suit?â
âAm I in the suit?â Tony rolled his eyes. âAre you serious, right now, Parker? You were kidnapped. You better damn well believe Iâm in the suit.â

Tony descended on the service station, to see his kid - finally, thank God - in the flesh, and felt his throat tighten. He was dismayed, but not particularly surprised, to see just how much Peter had undersold his injuries. He was soaking wet, missing a shoe, and he had a bruise on his chin and across the bridge of his nose. Dried blood crusted under his nose, and a trail of blood still dripped from a cut on his forearm.
But, he was there. He was alive.
Thank God.
Tony disengaged the suit as Peter ran into him. The kid wrapped his arms around him, and Tony just stood there senseless for a few breaths before he returned the embrace.
This kid was gonna be the death of him.
âPete, what the hell?â He reproached softly. âYou look like a damned drowned puppy.â
Peter started to pull back, but Tony held him by the shoulders at armsâ length.
âMr. Stark, I really am sorry - â
âHey, no - we can talk about that bit later, Pete, but you said you werenât hurtâŠâ
âIâm not,â he said, âIâm not hurt, Iâm fineâŠâ
âYou are actively bleeding right now,â Tony remarked dryly, touching Peterâs sleeve right above the injury.
Peter looked down as if seeing the wound for the first time.
âOh, so I am,â Peter said quietly. He looked back at Tony. âI mustâve scratched it when I jumped out of the car. I donât even really feel it.â
Tony gently touched Peterâs nose, the bridge of which was a hazy blue, and swollen. âDo you feel that?â
Peter frowned. âIt does not feel great.â
âMay be broken... weâll get it checked,â Tony said. âDid those assholes hit you, or did this happen when you leapt to freedom?â
âNo, they didnât hit me, they just tied my hands when I was in the car, and then⊠I didnât know what to do, because I couldnât break the rope while they were watching, right? Or theyâd know I was too strong to be a normal... guy. So, I pulled the car door open and jumped out, but it was kinda hard to land with my hands still tiedâŠâ
âThat was really dangerous, Pete, even for SpidermanâŠâ
âThey wouldâve killed me, I think,â Peter looked at him, eyes haunted, and Tony felt a chill run down his spine. âI was really scared; I didnât know what they wanted with me - to be a hostage or what - but they took their masks off in the car, so I didnât think they were gonna let me goâŠâ
Tony sometimes hated his mind, and the thousand possibilities that he could see all at once - the ways in which this whole scenario couldâve gone so wrong. The ways he couldâve lost this kid...
But, right then, Tonyâs hands were still holding onto Peter. He was safe, and Tony promised himself he would do whatever he needed to do to make sure this scenario never happened again.
Tony cleared his throat. âYouâre shivering. Come on, thereâs a diner across the road. We can wait for Hap & Rhodey there.â

Tony gave a huge tip to the wide-eyed waitress who greeted them at the diner.
âHeâs had a rough day,â Tony whispered to her after heâd sent Peter into the bathroom to at least wash his hands before eating. âWeâre just gonna wait here until his dads come pick him up. You donât happen to have any towels, do you? Iâll pay for them.â
The waitress, bless her, nodded and disappeared into the back. She returned with three fluffy hand towels and a stack of dish towels, just as Peter was exiting the menâs room. She then led them to a booth towards the back; a seat which afforded a good view out the window, so Tony would be able to see his friends when they arrived.
Thankfully, the place was nearly empty, and the patrons that were there didnât seem to be paying them any attention. Tony ordered four large meals; not knowing when Peterâs last meal was, or if Rhodey or Happy would want anything when they arrived.
As soon as the waitress was gone, Tony picked up the fluffiest towel in the pile and tossed it to Peter.
âDry your hair, Parker, youâre gonna catch cold.â
Peter caught the towel and eyed Tony warily before obediently rubbing his hair with it.
âListen, Mr. Stark, I really am sorryâŠâ
âKid,â Tony sighed, feeling extremely tired, âevery time you apologize, a fairy loses its wings.â
âI - I know, I get it, I keep apologizing,â Peter peeked at him from under the towel, and Tonyâs heart clenched again with the thought of what could have happened. âBut, I want you to know, I wasnât just⊠trying to be reckless, or - or trying to ignore your rules. I just⊠Canât let bad things happen to people if Iâm there to stop it.â
âAnd what about you?â Tony raised an eyebrow, folding his arms across his chest. âWho stops the bad things from happening to Peter?â
Peter frowned, âI was fine.â
âYeah, weâre gonna work on your definition of âfine.ââ
âThe man was begging for his life.â Peter whispered harshly, flinging the towel down against the seat, not wanting anyone nearby to hear, but clearly needing Tony to understand. Clearly thinking Tony didnât understand. âI couldnât just stand there with my class and go on into the museum and listen to him getting murdered. I couldnât⊠I - I had to do something!â
âThen wear the suit, Pete,â Tony ground out slowly through clenched teeth, pitching his voice to match the kidâs, even quieter, knowing Peter could hear, leaning forward to add emphasis. âThe suit I made for you, so you could go save people when bad things happen to them, and so I would know to go save you when bad things happen to you!â
âI couldnât wear the suit when I was supposed to be in class!â
âWhy the hell not?â
âBecause then youâd know I was⊠out.â
âYes. Yes! Then I would know! Yes, thatâs the whole entire goddamn point!â Tony hit the table - not loud enough to get them kicked out of the diner, but loud enough to drive home the point.
Peter stared at Tony like heâd just grown two heads. He blinked several times, took a deep breath, and exhaled.
âPeter?â Tony reached over and poked at the kidâs arm. âDid I break you?â
âOk, wait, so would you have been ok with all this if Iâd just worn the suit this morning?â
Would he have been ok with all this?
Something Rhodey had said before theyâd left on this whole wild goose chase came back to himâŠ
âMaybe he didnât want you to know heâd ditched his field trip.â
Tony leaned back in his seat; trying to put himself into the mind of a 16-year-old. When Tony was 16, he was a little shit. He was already enrolled at MIT, going to parties and getting into trouble he had no business being part of, and the whole time⊠He had wondered if his Dad was ever going to give a damn what his son was up to.
Heâd wondered if heâd ever get into enough trouble for his father to finally notice him. Heâd wondered if heâd ever get into so much trouble that his dad just disowned him.
But, Peter wasnât getting into trouble to get attention. Peter was cursed with the ability to know when something terrible was about to happen, and unlike most grown-ass adults, the kid actually gave a damn about someone other than himself. So, this morning, heâd been stuck in a catch-22.
Option One: Ignore the genuine terror of a man a block away, when he couldâve potentially helped.
Option Two: Go help the man, but get in trouble for ditching school.
âGod, Pete, Iâm sorry,â Tony sighed. He grabbed one of the clean towels and dipped it in his glass of water, sliding out of his booth and crossing the table.
âScootch over, Web-head,â he said softly.
Peter obliged, and Tony sat next to him. He examined the cut that was still sluggishly bleeding, and carefully dabbed at the blood.
âI donât want you patrolling when you should be at school,â Tony said, finally.
Peter opened his mouth, but Tony held up a hand before the kid could start to argue.
âThis wasnât patrolling, though, Pete. This was⊠you over-hearing an emergency situation.â Tony applied pressure to the cleansed wound. Happy had a first aid kit in the car, so they could bandage it up once he arrived. âIn the event of an emergency like the one that happened today, Iâd much prefer you to wear the suit. I canât promise you wonât ever get detention if you ditch school, although the fact that they didnât notice you were missing makes me doubt their abilities to keep you safe⊠Iâm just thankful you have a friend like Ned.â
âOh, shit, Ned!â Peter looked up at Tony, then clapped his hand over his mouth. âSorry.â
âAnother fairy, kid,â Tony laughed. âYou can call Ned in a minute. Let me finish my heartfelt speech, please.â
Peter nodded, lips turning up in a slight smile. Tony ruffled Peterâs hair before continuing.
âI canât honestly promise that I wonât ever get mad, or not lecture you⊠But, I promise to listen to your side of the story, and no matter what, Iâm not gonna ditch you. Even if you have a month of detention. Youâll just have to visit me after youâve served your time. And, Iâm not gonna take the suit. Iâm gonna help you. I think weâve established today that I physically cannot handle losing you. Similar to how you cannot seem to physically handle not helping people out.â
Peter was quiet for a moment, seeming to process what Tony had just said. Then, his eyes grew misty, and he lunged at Tony, wrapping his arms clear around his mentor, so the man couldnât move. The kid rested the side of his face against Tonyâs chest.
âI really love you, Mr. Stark,â the kid whispered, and Tonyâs brain short-circuited - fireworks exploding in his mind. He opened and closed his mouth like a fish, just looking down at the kidâs head, before Peter sat up again, blushing.
The waitress came with their food, and Peter stabbed his stack of pancakes with a fork, shoveling them in his mouth with an appetite that only teenagers seem to have. In the meantime, Tony texted the kidâs aunt to tell her Peter was with him, and Ned to tell him Peter was ok. By the time Rhodey and Happy pulled into the parking lot, the kid had eaten all of his meal, and half of Tonyâs.
âLook, whoâs here,â Tony said quietly, as Rhodey and Happy entered the diner.
Peter put his fork down, frowning at Happyâs scowl. âAm I gonna get another lecture, now?â
âProbably,â Tony said lightly, âBut that just means they love you.â

This is the least favorite part of Peterâs days, visiting his uncle. Its not like he doesnât love him, of course he does, but its not exactly easy to look at him lying in a hospital bed with a tube sticking out of his mouth because some asshole shot him. And Peter knows whoever did it, because despite the whole thing being caught on camera the cops arenât competent enough to find the guy, has probably led a complicated life too but that doesnât make it easier. Its just what he knows Ben would say, if he could respond to Peterâs thoughts. He doesnât know how Ben managed to stay as positive as he had, no matter what shitty thing was happening. Its admirable, Peter thinks, that he was always able to maintain that regardless of what was going on.
Heâs quietly contemplating that when May walks in looking a little uncomfortable and it has to be worse for her. Peter canât even imagine what it must be like, watching someone youâve been married to for so long like this. âApparently weâre up to date on payments,â she says softly, walking over and standing beside him. âThatâs not possible.â
Peter shakes his head, âits fine, I got a job,â he tells her.
May clearly doesnât buy it and he canât say he blames her. âDoing what? Because thereâs not a whole hell of a lot that pays that much and Ned confirmed you didnât drop out of school.â
The good news is that Ned clearly didnât tell her what his job was. âOh, um. Internship, it pays well because its really hard to get into,â he lies.
âShit, for that kind of money they might as well hire someone to work there full time,â May says and to Peterâs surprise she leaves it alone, settling her hand on his shoulder instead and squeezing. âIf you get yourself into trouble, let me know,â she adds after a few moments. His stomach squeezes a little because heâs not in trouble and he doesnât want to worry her, but heâs not really willing to tell her the truth either.

When he gets to Tonyâs heâs kind of grateful that he knows exactly whatâs going to happen because its a bit of a relief. Heâs kind of had enough of wild cards and Tony is nothing if not thorough in his expectations so Peter changes into Lizâs skirt, determine that sheâs never going to get it back now because he couldnât possibly look her in the eye while she wore it and makes his way to the couch in the living room. Heâs got homework, mostly writing up a few reports for class and its tedious more than anything but at least it keeps him focused.Â
Ned has already done his half in the google doc theyâre sharing and Peter sends a silent thank you to him for not being a garbage lab partner. He got stuck with Flash once, which was weird because Flash apparently didnât recognize him and then hit on him like he didnât spend three quarters of high school calling him âpenis parkerâ and a bunch of other uncreative names when he thought of them. Turns out heâs as smart as he was in high school but he liked to wait until two hours before any given project was due to do the work and that just stressed him out. But Ned is reliable and not a total shithead so his half is done and Peter starts in on his. Might as well be productive before heâs essentially at work.
Heâs managed to get a good chunk of it done by the time Tony walks in looking harassed. Peter looks at him over the back of the couch, âbad day?â he asks as Tony walks over.
Tony lets out an irritated sigh, âyou could say that. You?â he asks, leaning against the back of the couch.
He could lie, but he doesnât much see the point. Plus it works, feeling kind of the same way Tony does. âNot much better, but at least I donât have shitty patterns for group projects so thereâs that,â he says.
Tony laughs, âhalf the struggle in like, any collaborative situation. Which conveniently happens to be my problem. It irritates me when people donât pull their weight,â he mumbles.
âYeah, but you can like⊠fire them. I canât fire shitty group project members, all I get is a strongly worded email to my professors saying that theyâre lazy assbats in the most polite way I can manage.â Which always requires a group âis this too saltyâ edit from his friends that takes an hour or so before he sends it. Life would be easier if he could just fire people.
âYeah, but then you have to replace them and thatâs a pain in the ass too,â Tony says, looking amused. âAssbats?â
Peter shrugs, âits the best I could come up with on short notice.â
Tony nods and looks him over, gaze stopping at his skirt for a moment. âYou wore it,â he says like he hadnât asked Peter to.
âYeah, I um, you asked me to,â he points out.
âDoesnât mean youâd listen. Can I kiss you?â he asks.
Yeah, its not like its a hardship to kiss Tony given that heâs not exactly bad looking so Peter nods. Heâs anxious to get into this proper anyway, figure out what Tony is like when heâs actually doing the whole dom thing rather than just as a person. Peter already knows he likes him as a person. Tony looks him over slowly, eyes landing on his lips for a moment before he reaches forward and tilts Peterâs head up a little and leans in. The kiss is soft, sweet- tentative, like he isnât sure of himself and thatâs cute.
He goes to pull away but Peter pulls him back, shifting so heâs leaning up into Tony more. Tony cups his cheek, thumb brushing his cheek as he gently coaxes Peter into it, biting at his bottom lip a little and Peter lets out a soft moan. Tony pulls away but Peter grabs his hand before it can disappear too. âDonât be cheap on me, Tony, I happen to know you have money,â Peter tells him surprised that he said that.
Tony takes it well though, smiling down at him with amusement. âI knew you were a good choice. Mind if I sit?â he asks, gesturing to the couch.
Peter frowns, âits your house,â he points out.
âIts your space Iâd be sitting in,â Tony says.
He shrugs, âfeel free,â he tells Tony, closing his laptop and curling his feet up, setting the laptop aside. Tony rounds the couch and reaches out, curling his hand around Peterâs crossed ankles and pulling them into his lap slowly, like heâs giving Peter time to pull away. He doesnât, he just goes back to stretching his legs out as he settles in. Tony sets his arms down on Peterâs legs, one hand curling around his ankle as he strokes Peterâs ankle bone with his thumb.
âHere,â Tony says, shifting a little as he reaches into his pocket and pulls something out. He hands it to Peter and he frowns.
âA card?â he asks. Some kind of credit card, he assumes but that makes no sense.
âYeah, a card. Get whatever you need with it. Or whatever you want,â Tony tells him.
âYouâre like, aware I get paid, right?â Peter asks, squinting.
Tony snorts, âyouâre aware Iâm like a billionaire, right?â he asks, raising an eyebrow.
Peter canât help the small snicker he lets out, âI mean yeah I know that but still. Whatâs the deal?â
âIn my experience people have things to pay for in this line of work, usually something expensive. Take the wiggle room,â Tony tells him.
It occurs to him that Tony thinks heâs paying for school and Peter is happy to let him think that, actually. âUm, okay,â he says, setting the card on top of his computer.
âAnd buy something that isnât pizza or hot pockets, I know how college students live,â Tony says and Peter laughs.
âDo you though?â he asks. Someone with as much money as Tony probably didnât have like, a normal college experience by any stretch.
âYeah, my lowest point was the time Rhodey and I ran out of food so we made Mr. Noodles with cranberry vodka. I donât fucking recommend, we threw it up basically immediately,â he says, wrinkling his nose.
Oh god, ugh. âThatâs disgusting and way worse than that time we all decided we wanted Frootloops so we went out to get some at three in the morning and came back only to find all the bowls were dirty so we made makeshift bowls out of tin foil.â Then they hate their food like trolls but it was great because they actually managed to find the damn Frootloops. Took a couple stores but they found them.
Tony laughs, shaking his head. âTin foil bowls?â Peter nods and Tony grins, âthatâs creative, Iâll give you that.â
âAnd disposable, so no extra dishes,â Peter says proudly.
âSo youâll use the card?â Tony states more than asks.
âI mean, if I need it maybe.â He doesnât really need more money, just what heâs getting so heâs sure itâll be fine.
âUse the card,â Tony tells him, tightening his grip on Peterâs ankle for a moment. âI gave it to you for a reason.â
âThree am Frootloops?â Peter says, grinning.
âThere are better uses than that but sure, three am Frootloops,â he says, staring at him for a long moment before he smiles. âCome here,â he tells Peter, moving his arms off his legs.
Peter shifts, crawling over so heâs sitting in Tonyâs lap. He looks a little surprised but recovers fast, wrapping an arm around him as his lips quirk up. âYouâre perfect, you know that?â he tells Peter.
He blushes a little and looks away, âI donât know about that,â he murmurs.
Tony tilts his head back up, âI do, baby. Now, do you want to get into this?â he asks.
Peter nods. âI kind of want to know what Iâve got in store for me,â he says.
Tony pets up his thigh with the hand that isnât settled on his waist, âwell, not too much tonight. Just some basic training,â Tony tells him. He pouts and Tony smiles at him again because apparently he likes that kind of thing. âDonât look at me like that, youâll be back soon anyway so its not like you have to wait all that long.â
âTraining?â Peter prompts and Tonyâs smile gets wider.Â
âYeah, baby. You ready?â

Peter is on his way home feeling kind of⊠good when he sees them. He stops for a moment and looks, debates on walking away but he feels giddy and happy and his afternoon with Tony was good and the shoes are pretty. Theyâre a soft pink, the same one heâd worn at Tonyâs the first time he was there and theyâd look cute with that skirt he stole from Liz and he doesnât need shoes. He definitely doesnât need shoes that heâd probably never wear because where would he wear heels? So he goes to walk away, making it maybe five paces before he turns around and goes back because he likes the shoes and he had a shitty morning, he thinks heâs earned some shoes.

A/N: I hope you like it, I kinda made it in a rush. Two things: Reader is a female. If you ever want me to do a male or non binary reader, Iâm totally down for it. And in this, Richie is bisexual because thereâs no universe where Richie wouldnât be in love with Eddie. Thatâs it, fell free to like, reblog or comment, and send requests!
A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)
Richie has a hard time being comfortable with people because he feels nervous around everyone. Even if heâs not sure if youâre going to like his hugs, gentle caresses and kisses, he tries his best to show his love for you with these gestures. But, as heâs not always sure about how to touch you (or even if heâs allowed to touch you), he usually gives you awkward hugs and nervous kisses on your cheeks. Also, sometimes he tries to tickle you, but he feels like thatâs too much.
B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)
Richie can be an asshole sometimes, but heâs a good kind of asshole. He calls you out on your shit, he tries to give advice (though they arenât always good) and heâs always there for you. When you feel down, he tells you all kinds of dirty jokes, until you laugh. Before his shows, when heâs preparing the script, he reads it for you first, and thatâs how he knows heâs doing a good job.
C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)
Richie enjoys cuddles as much as he enjoys your kisses, which means a lot. He feels cold almost all the time, and when you two cuddle the warmth of your body makes him feel safe. âCuddling is almost better than sexâ he likes to say (though this opinion changes from time to time). Heâs a cuddle-switch: One time heâs the big spoon, letting you fall asleep against his chest, and other times heâs the little spoon, laying his head in your lap and letting his dark curls be caressed by you.
D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)
Richie isnât ready for it yet. He has a lot to think about, a lot of dreams and goals, and sometimes he feels insecure about being in a relationship: he believes that he doesnât deserve to be happy. But, eventually, with a lot of love and patience, you would talk about settling down.
He canât cook to save his life. Literally, the only thing he can do is coffee, and sometimes it doesnât taste good. If you didnât cook, he would live eating only pizza and hamburgers. He doesnât really care about cleaning. He doesnât particularly enjoy doing so, but if you ask him to do it, heâll kick himself until the work is done.
E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)
He would be a stuttering mess, using popular sayings like âItâs not you, itâs meâ, or âIâm not ready for a serious relationship yetâ, even âIâm seeing somebody elseâ. And while you knew most of it was bullshit, he was trying to be honest with you. After breaking up with you, he would have to take a time out from the shows and just spend some time alone or with Eddie. But he would cry only in the shower when he knew no one could hear his sobs except himself.
F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)
Heâs freaking out. His whole life, commitment never went through his head, but now with you? He freaked out when he realized that he was imagining you with a white dress. It would take a long time before you two started talking about it, and he would always be defensive, too scared that, if he got married to you, at some point you would just leave him.
Letâs just say it would take a long, long time for him to bring the subject up.
G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)
Both physically and emotionally, heâs trying. Really, but he just isnât used to having someone else in his life, let alone someone who actually cares about him. So there has to be a lot of patience and a lot of humor to deal with his sudden dark humor jokes when heâs nervous. You assure him, and he appreciates all the effort you put in him, and heâs working on dealing with his emotional issues.
H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)
Richie is a touch starved bitch who becomes a puddle when he receives any kind of affection. So, heâll never say that he loves your hugs so much that he could spend the whole day in your arms, no, instead heâll say that heâs late and will try to avoid your efforts. He tries to not have hugs all the time, but he always ends up giving in and letting you hug him. His hugs are desperate like he needs it to breathe and always end with a kiss. In his hugs, you always feel all the love he has for you.
I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)
It takes him a lot of time, intimacy and trust for him to say it. The first time he actually says it, heâs drunk and you had to carry him home. After you laid him in the bed, he held you close, making you lay on top of him, and whisper-yelled âI love youâ in your ear. You just smiled at him and slept with his head buried in your neck. You made sure to say it back to him in the morning, making him blush. Â
J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when theyâre jealous?)
He usually doesnât get jealous: Heâs the type of man who gets insecure. Heâs been through a lot, and he has a lot of insecurities: His appearance, his dirty mouth, his emotional issues. When he sees you flirting with someone else, he tends to close himself and he doesnât talk with you until you reassure him. In rare times, he gets possessive.
K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)
Richieâs kisses are, simply, funny. Playfull. He teases, bites, tickles and laughs in the kiss. But it doesnât last long. Richie is a touch-starved nervous wreck, and he becomes a puddle when someone shows him any kind of affection. He whimpers and sometimes moans into the kiss, and he never knows where to put his hands. But even when heâs nervous or flushed, he shows you how much he appreciates you being in his life, and lands littles pecks on your neck and cheeks.
L = Little ones (How are they around children?)
Heâs nervous around everything, it wouldnât be any different from kids. He thinks that, maybe, one day in the future, you and he could make the family bigger, but heâs not sure if heâs going to be a good father. His biggest concern is if heâs going to be a good influence for the kid, and sometimes you have to reassure him that if you guys decide to have children someday, heâll be a wonderful father.
M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)
He hates waking up early. So, if you donât work, itâs all lazy and warm nuzzles in your neck. When you guys finally decide to wake up (which usually happens after noon), you make breakfast and take a shower together. In the morning, probably because heâs still sleepy, he is less shy and gets more carefree. Lazy kisses may happen in certain mornings. Â
N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)
You guys get home late, sometimes drunk and giggling like teenagers. Surprisingly, Richie is more bold and carefree when the night falls. You two may or may not get hot and heavy, but no matter what you guys do, it always ends up being both of you, laying down in the bed, caressing each other's faces and whispering sweet nothings into each other neck.
O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)
He would reveal histories that he remembers from his childhood, small pieces of who he is, and it would happen gradually, as time goes by and as he starts to trust you more and more. Even if itâs a small detail of his life that he reveals to you, you take it to heart, because you know how hard it is for him to trust people and to be true to himself, let alone be true to someone else.
P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)
He doesnât usually get angry at you, and most of the time isnât even you, itâs probably just a stressful day and you were the closest person to him. When heâs angry, he shouts and curses, but when he calms down he just needs a hug and reassurance. He hates to fight with you, but sometimes he just canât help it.
Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)
He remembers a lot of things. Not everything, he has too much going on in his head, but he remembers the essentials: Birthdays, special dates and stuff like that. About the details, he tends to forget them, and only remembers it when you mention it at least two times.
R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)
When he told you about his crush on Eddie when they were kids. He never really came with terms with his bisexuality, and he doesnât talk about it, but when he decided to tell you, he was nervous and afraid that you would leave him. But when you bend your head to the side, smile at him and tells him that itâs alright, he starts crying. Thatâs when he realized you truly loved him and it is his favorite moment on your relationship.
S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)
He tries to be protective, but he knows how strong you are and that you can protect him and you at the same time if itâs needed, but he likes to pretend that heâs a bad boy that takes care of you. He probably protects you by taking care of your needs, and by making sure you have everything you need. He likes to be protected the same way, by being pampered and taken care of, it means a nice bath or a hug session.
T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)
He knows itâs not a big deal for you, but he still tries very hard to make every date or gift look perfect. In everyday tasks, sometimes he has to be remembered of his tasks, but he still does it.
U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)
Heâs Trashmouth. He curses too much, and sometimes he doesnât take things seriously enough.
V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)
He isnât concerned about his appearance, but he thinks he isnât good looking. Sometimes he wonders why you got interested in such an ugly guy like him, and you are happy to remember him that heâs the most handsome man in the world.
W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)
Yes. He thinks he could pull off without you, but sometimes when he remembers how good it was to have you around, he feels lonely all over again.
X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)
Richie presents you to Eddie at some point. You and he get along pretty well, but Richie is a pile of nerves. In the end, Eddie asks you to take care of him and since then, you secretly keep him updated on what is happening in Richie's life.
Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldnât like, either in general or in a partner?)
Someone full of themselves. Richie needs someone real and good in his life, and he needs someone to talk to about his problems, not someone whoâll never listen and wonât stop talking about themselves.
Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habits of theirs?)
Richie talks on his sleep. Every night he tells you a different story, and you always remember to write them down so, in the morning, youâll show him what he created and maybe he can use it in one of his shows.
