misc worldbuilding scraps that are currently rotating on the back burner:

(omegaverse) human instinct relies on scent > hearing > taste > sight to find compatible partners, kryptonian instincts lean on sight > hearing > scent > taste, hence the mating markings

omegaverse humans have a much higher degree of face blindness than we normal humans do lmao

helps clark pass, the more he pulls his scent back the more it fades away, clark kent smells so dull/insignificant/mild that it seems like he's got a medical condition (hypomyrodia). jonathan kent had this. when jonathan and martha found bby kal, he was scared and tried to match scents to the two humans who found him, which caused his kryptonian scent to quickly fade. a hypomyrodic pup would probably face high abandonment rates and low adoption rates, so it was probably a relief that two willing parents brought the pup in

kryptonians all pretty much exist along a relatively smooth spectrum of sexual characteristics and can transition somewhat like clownfish if there's a hormonal imbalance in their community. having zero (0) other kryptonians around does things to clark before he grows the fortress and is able to synthesize hormone stabilizers

humans meanwhile have ten major sexes because betas can be true beta, alpha-leaning, or omega-leaning depending on their recessive genes

poison ivy is x100 more horrifying in any omegaverse world. she only manages to zop clark though bc the pollen is enchanted. however it's enchanted to induce primal alpha hindbrain, which means something very different to lone kryptonians than packbonded humans

it would have been the norm on krypton to have one's facial markings out. kryptonians would pull them back if they were sick, or perhaps terrified... primal hindbrain clark looking around and seeing nothing but non-glowing faces, and it coming across as everyone around him fucking terrified of him

for the first few months of their acquaintance clark is like. im not sure what gender batman is and at this point i'm not sure its ok to ask (he can smell past the concealing patches to bruce's strong omega scent but the patches could also be doubling as, like, the equivalent of binders, could be that batman's gender is null, but he mixes in diluted alpha cologne, but that could just be for concealment/intimidation....???)

sun-powered kryptonians have a strong, distinctively alien but somewhat alpha-smelling scent (when they're not pulling it back) but barely leave any on people they try to scent with, and scents barely stick to them. when clark politely explains this to bb dickie hes just like well i guess ill just have to scent you for longer! and clark goes 🥺

at this early point in the timeline barry is the only known omega superhero so the tabloids are huge into superflash

anyway all that's just kind of fluff/details... the core theme i've been rotating around is overcoming real and genuine barriers to intimacy. the loneliness of knowing you're a square peg in a world of round holes, the necessary compromises of sanding away your corners, the joy of meeting someone who will stretch to meet you where you are. there's a fair few excellent fics of bruce uncomfortable in an omega's role and body, i want to come at it from a perspective where a xenomegaverse clark has to define what gender means to him, in the heightened roles of the omegaverse. we are looking also at layers of passing. when parts of your closet become your armor that protects but encumbers you, and other parts become your exoskeleton, which grow into who you are. we are looking at that comic about the orchid that has the pattern on it meant to appeal to an extinct species of bee. we are looking at compromise made of love and compromise made of fear. and we are looking at tentacles baby.................

yeah okay so like. everyone was GREAT dont get me wrong but i look at austin butler and callum turner and im like ... these guys survived the great depression?? THESE guys. AND!! they cast a bunch of british dudes with crooked teeth that really sold it for me. i could definitely see them as having grown up without much in the 30s cus like the actors didnt get braces as kids lol. and they all looked like regular guys they werent tv pretty. whereas on mota everyones pretty. and recognizable. like i dont know who ANY actor is i live under so many rocks but i know who austin butler is. like hes done major films. so to cast him for your hbowar show seems incredibly odd. and even the supporting characters are recognizable! doctor who is in this! (yes yes his name is The Doctor not dr who blah blah blah) and he was the doctor before he was in this show and fucking. like callum turner and barry keogan like theyve both done major films and theyre both SO attractive. and again everyone was FANTASTIC (i think callum turner carried that show on his BACK) everyone was so talented and gave such incredible performances but it just felt wrong bc they were too pretty and their wikipedia pages are too long lol

I got into the habit of periodically changing my url here once I saw Germany was about to vote for a law that would deny citizenship applications of anyone that has ever expressed support of Palestine in any way, as an attempt to stay more anonymous. I don't even know whether the law was voted in or not, it's just a wild thing to see a headline on, and I might pursue a different citizenship in the distant future so who knows. Better safe than sorry.

I also tend to generally not post on socials, at least for the last 5-6 years or so mainly because I no longer care to update people I barely interact with anyway, and those who are important already know what's going on in my life. I can't fully get off Meta or Twitter, the former because it's the main form of communication in my country(not calling, not texting, but using Messenger and IG dms), the latter is due to work (I'm not a CIA operative either I just sometimes need to access tweets for sourcing statements because that's still unfortunately a thing and Elon made it impossible to do that without an account).

I also wanna note that while the number of potential Tumblr operatives might be low, I doubt it's 0 because we do have at least one actual person who is on the USA no fly list active on here that actually hacked the list, which is a wild thing to have achieved at such a young age imo, and they've expressed anarchist views so there's that too. I haven't looked into anyone else that might be in those sorts of circles but they can't be the only one on the only platform left online that sort of doesn't police speech and various content.

I think about this a lot because one of DC's core characteristics for decades, comparative to a lot of other companies or franchises, is its long been about the concept of legacies. DC was doing the legacy heroes thing looooong before it was at all a regular feature of other superhero comics, particularly Marvel (just like DC was also more the "sidekicks" company whereas Marvel was more about team ensemble books, unlike DC whose major teams like JLA and Titans were more outliers than a regular feature of the comics).

But the thing about legacies and why the Robin mantle has always been such a sticking point for me is unlike what I said in my previous post here suggests......normally, the originator of a legacy DOESN'T get any say or control with what happens to their legacy. Like its great if later inheritors of it or who pick up something in someone else's name do it to honor the originator of that legacy's initial intentions.....but its out of that originator's hands. They don't get to shepherd what other people make of a thing they began, because....well. Usually the creator of a legacy isn't AROUND to do any shepherding, by the time it becomes an actual LEGACY.

Even in cases where other people take up earlier mantles like the Flash, Batman, Superman, etc....those tend to end up a) not actual legacies because the originator comes back to life and takes back their own mantle with the subsequent mantle-holder being seen more as a temporary measure than an actual steward/shaper of that legacy and where it goes (see: Batman, Superman and their temporary successors.....not counting Jon Kent Superman in this because I don't know The Lore well enough to factor it in here on account of my deep and abiding metaphysical allergy to all things Tm Tylr). Or b) when they are actual legacies, like in the case of Wally West as the Flash (for the decades before Barry came back), Barry wasn't actually around to have any opinions on anything Wally did for the vast majority of the time Wally defined himself as a Flash himself. And yes, I'm also aware that Barry is not technically the originator of the Flash mantle, but both in-universe and out, DC tends to treat it as though he is more often than it actually acknowledges any of Barry's precursors as the inception of all things Flash.

So that's why the Robin mantle issues stick in my craw so damn much lol. Because not only is Dick one of the first instances OF a DC mantle becoming a legacy, both in-universe and out (him passing the torch to Jason happened before BARRY died, even)....DICK WAS ALIVE THE WHOLE DAMN TIME.

The usual rules of a legacy originator not getting an opinion on what happens with their legacy are only taken as a given because in most cases the originator isn't available to BE a deciding factor. But that doesn't mean that when they are around willing and able to say "hey don't love that you're doing this or that IN MY LITERAL NAME, USING MY LITERAL LIKENESS, AND CASHING IN ON THE LITERAL CLOUT THAT I LITERALLY CREATED VIA THIS PERSONA".......then, IMO, their opinion SHOULD be a hell of a lot more relevant than DC (and fandom) tends to treat Dick's view on all things Robin as being.

Especially given that per the retcon that everyone actually operates off of, Dick wasn't given a choice in a) leaving the mantle that he created for HIMSELF and himself ONLY, initially, and b) passing it on to someone else and making it an actual legacy in the first place. At least in terms of it becoming HIS legacy, as opposed to the legacy he initially created it to be, aka his PARENTS' legacy, living on in him and his acts and works.

(And no, we are not playing the 'technically Dick wasn't fired, he chose to become Nightwing' game with this post, bc we all know people who do that are disingenuous as hell, nine out of ten times. As you can see, I'm acknowledging here that the pre-Crisis continuity and version of events exists, but as I pointed out, I'm not factoring it in because it isn't the defining version of things at this point, and more importantly, the people who most often reference it don't treat it as such either. If your own meta and fics like to cite Dick as resentful for being fired....then you can't simultaneously try and bring up "Dick CHOSE to move on to Nightwing" as a rebuttal for him not getting an opinion on what happened with the Robin mantle, because like, you're literally out here citing DiCk iS sO fuCKing BitTer cuZ BrUce FiRed hIm oMg.

Similarly, if you're treating the Robin mantle as something Jason feels came from Bruce, you can't simultaneously point to the time Dick made the choice to pass on his mantle to Jason rather than just affirm it after the fact, because no matter how hard you try, you can't treat that version of events as like, a TECHNICALITY that lets you have it both ways - ie Bruce made Jason Robin in every way that matters, except for when Dick stans are being noisy about how that wasn't okay, in which case UMMM DID YOU FORGET THIS PRE-CRISIS ISSUE WHERE DICK MADE JASON ROBIN HIMSELF, YOU FAKE FAN?!? Like. That's not a technicality. That changes the entire shape of Dick, Jason and Bruce's history and dynamics. You don't get it both ways. If you're not treating the Robin mantle as something Dick has been in control of shepherding and passing down, you can't claim you are just to discredit convos or metas that are about "hey, kinda fucked how little control Dick's had of shepherding and passing down his own mantle at certain key junctures, innit?" Like, approach this topic in the spirit its intended here or move on and leave it alone. We're not doing Schrodinger's Continuity with this one. I've been clear which version of things I'm referencing here and why my stance on that version of things is what it is, alternative versions need not apply for this particular post, Its Not About Them).

Dick Grayson would be fully justified in stripping the Robin name and mantle from EVERYONE and saying you can have it back when you’re all willing to respect that this name means and symbolizes family to me, this mantle’s creator, instead of treating it like a reason to constantly be at each other’s throats. 

What each and every one of the others made Robin mean for themselves does not negate nor should it overshadow what the mantle’s creator intended it to be, and is still alive and kicking to insist upon it being if the others would just show him some damn deference every now and then, instead of resentment for the fact that he’s supposedly worth being deferential towards.

-i do write a lot of romance despite being aromantic and i also write a lot of parent/child dynamics even though i am not a parent lol -i use a lot of light imagery in my fics, but a lot of that is because i write mostly halbarry or superbat, and yknow. lantern rings, lightning, solar powered alien. light/lightning/sunlight/sunshine just happens to come up a lot -i also (for some reason) have a lot of scenes in my halbarry fics where theyre laying in bed together and one of them is awake and either trying to or trying not to wake the other up, and its really sweet because it gives me a lot of space to have them just gush about their lover (not that i dont have my characters gush about each other when im writing superbat or something else lol) -when i write bruce, i tend to base some of his traits after ones that i see in myself, that are commonly associated with autism (Dessert At Bibbo's has a lot of my best Bruce characterization), and when i write Hal, i try to incorporate as much gender-fuckery as i can because i think he deserves it <3

-oh boy what is the sweetest fic i've written so far.... -for Clark/Bruce, it's definitely Dessert At Bibbos, linked here, which documents their relationship through trips to the diner (i have to rep this one because its my husbands favorite of my fics) -for Hal/Barry, im not really sure which is the sweetest, because i have a few without their kids and a lot more with their kids...To Have, To Hold is probably by far the sweetest of the fics without their kids, linked here, but with their kids, i'd probably say Shopping For Two Picky Kids Is Hard, Okay? linked here though the fic i am currently writing is much much much sweeter family fluff (if i ever get it finished 😅)

-honestly? i dont know. theres a lot that i dont feel comfortable writing because i dont think i'll write the characters or the scenario well, or because particular kinks are things i cannot write -there are ships i will never write ever ever ever ever. batjokes, any form of batcest/incest, bruce/the majority of his rogues gallery, stuff like that -but a lot of tropes are ones that i would be open to writing, not necessarily between or to the main character of my story, but as something to be the aftermath of, etc -but like. if someone asked me to write a fic of something, theres a large chance i would at least try to write it for them bc im a people pleaser and i like when people like my fics lol

arceus gave shea the option to return to her “intended” forme, a proper pokemon body that resembles arceus & the origin formes of her kin however shea declined as she wanted to live among humans in a forme that resembled them. arceus granted this request however shea still has a pokeforme. shea also doesn’t really know this for the majority of her life nor does she rlly plan to exist in that forme until she feels like her adventures as a human are completely over. the key to this forme lies in the jeweled gracidea hairpin that is made from the same holy material as creation trios orbs, while shea does not know it by this name it’s known as the devotion orb.

cyrus when he captured her with the red chain was able to frenzy shea to a state where her human body could not take the combination of her power & the red chain suppressing said power & the devotion orb shines & in it’s glittery light shea morphs into this forme for the very first time. however as she was still captured by the red chain all they could do was struggle under the restraints until giratina swallows cyrus, dawn lucas & barry, + shea into the distortion world. once there shea is broken free & returns to her human forme to then battle cyrus along side her kin.

since then shea has been somewhat scared to test any transformation into this forme & has done this rarely & always within the hall of origin or under the watchful eyes of giratina in the distortion world. giratina is someone shea has complete trust in to take care of her should something go wrong, so she feels safe to transform into this forme & attempt to get used to this body under their watchful eye.

fun fact bc i decided this now that area zero bc its all time-space fucked has a negative effect on the devotion orb. area zero does not like shea it rejects her, this has been established before this post, it wants her GONE. it doesn’t even want to claim her life. it wants her out. however the distortions cause the devotion orb to grow unstable & there is a like 30% dice roll chance that shea will randomly lose her human forme & transform into her origin forme because time is wonkydonky. fuckitywuckity. she hates this shit btw shes so unused to 4 legs. dont worry im designing this soon u will have visuals i promise anyways i think it would be funny if shes exploring area zero & suddenly bAM BRIGHT LIGHT LEGS BAMBI WOBBLE MOMENT BEFORE FALLING ON THE GROUND.

Rust accidentally teaches SWK to swear. Only reason SWK didnt know the word fuck beforehand is because Mr. Shrewd never swore in front of him and he didn't talk to Catarina enough to hear her swear. Rust immediately goes through the first 4 stages of grief and never acceptance upon hearing SWK scream fuck after stubbing his toe. Also SWK bullies him for shooting the groondas. Rust is questioning if teenagers are usually like this or if it's just SWK. Because Rocky would never bully him for this. Also SWK makes Rust do movie nights with him. Rust has yet to understand how movies work. Also also, SWK keeps bothering Rust abt his gun and abt how he wants to try it out, so instead of giving a hyperactive teenage boy a gun, Rust basically buys him the video game world equivalent of a Nerf gun. Chandrelle hasn't been able to exist without getting shot by a foam dart.

He's. Kinda at fault for Jeremiah having ceaseless boredom. But it's also kinda Gameworks' fault. Basically Reggie kept telling him he should be allowed to have fun without constantly thinking about work. And as much as Jeremiah likes working for Reggie, he quickly grew to resent how boring the janitor job was. Blame Irving, the janitor job was his idea

Before the "Lionel wants this" disaster, Reggie actually liked to consider Irving his friend! The sentiment wasn't returned, but he made several attempts to try and bond with Irving. Irving still calls him Reginald despite Reggie having told him so many times in the past that Irving can call him Reggie.

Also before the "Lionel wants this" disaster, during after work hours when they had time to spare, Reggie and Jereiah liked to dance to the music on the old gramophone! Jeremiah sucked at dancing, but Reggie didn't mind.

On that note, Reggie and Jeremiah are PAINFULLY oblivious. They share a bed. They're with each other as much as they possibly can be. They have nicknames for each other that are borderline pet names. But they insist they're straight and are just friends despite acting like they're a married couple.

Due to being a video game version of Barry, any sort of event trigger can cause him to remember a memory of Barry's. It was most frequent back when Reggie was younger and after he became crippled, because every little thing reminded him of his anger, which reminded him of Lionel, causing him to get plenty of Barry's memories of Lionel. Even with the heartwarming memories, it never swayed him away from wanting to kill Lionel. If anything, it made him angrier, because why couldn't Lionel care about him the way he cared about Barry? It was far from fair.

I also have this hc to explain the fact that SWK doesn't age, that aging only happens if you have a living, real life counterpart. Reggie stopped aging when Barry was killed (Which. Wasn't when Lionel was a kid. Faked death), Mr. Shrewd died of old age the same time the real pet shrew died, and SWK stopped aging when Lionel's pet weasel got out and died a short couple weeks later. Because I doubt an animal that's been a pet its entire life is gonna know how to survive the wilderness

Regrets basically becoming a dad to six major idiots, because god forbid Jeremiah take a turn watching them

Finally, hopping on the 'Reggie and Jeremiah have a connection to the Mycologists' theory, I'm not following the 'It's actually those two' theory (especially the theory where they're piloting around Lionel's corpse), but it's more of just. Those two created the Mycos in a fucked up lil lab experiment (which we know Jeremiah is more than happy to conduct fucked up lil lab experiments thanks to that one weird room in VG2) and then shipped the files off to Inscryption. Basically, they artificially created a couple of sons and then immediately slapped them into what might as well be a war zone
