What's that one headcanon you have for your fav character that you never got to share?

I sort of have a WIP covering this… but as it’s not shared yet, technically it counts? ^^

I absolutely believe Dark Ace is part Nightcrawler, or whatever species Nightcrawlers recruit from. The red eyes that glow faintly whenever it’s dark/overcast (could be a species trait that kicks in as he reaches maturity), his intuitive skill at manipulating multiple kinds of crystals via his sword (we only see Piper, Cyclonis or Nightcrawlers actively wielding several types of crystals), his fierce loyalty to Cyclonis who had that weird voice echo…

As seen in Mirrored Gold I’ve got an OC race called Dwellers. While they have plot reasons in that fic, in the AU I started working on (way before I started Mirrored Gold actually), the Dweller tribe with the traits I envision Dark Ace having had adapted to living in the Black Gorge during whatever apocalypse/calamity tore Atmos apart to create the terras. Being adapted for hunting in the darkness would give the species a ruthless edge that Dark Ace absolutely embodies, Dwellers would be nowhere near the top of the Black Gorge food chain, so getting out into wider Atmos would be a massive boon. Being someplace so deprived of active crystals, it could make them so much more sensitive to the crystals energies, possibly enough to intuitively seek it out or manipulate it for their own purposes. It would explain a lot of the Dark Ace’s unusual social/antisocial paradox. Also why storms always seemed to crop up whenever he was around, to compensate for his eyes seeing better in dim light. I came up with this headcanon years ago before season 2, so I needed to come up with more reasons why a part Nightcrawler wouldn’t like or trust a ‘proper’ Nightcrawler. It’s a bunny that’s just kind of quietly been doing its own thing in a corner until recently while going through my prompts to find things I could combine it with. That fic is also a Colonel/Dark Ace shipping situation enabled by a friend so will post it eventually xD
