Meet Evelynne Chauteuil and Chester Bizemeur‼️‼️
An Undead Princess and Her Jester
Get to know them better under the cut!!!
Warnings: mentions of death(heavy!), funerals, blood, derealization, codependency, grief, mental decline, neglect of health, unhealthy relationships(?)
Evelynne(she/her) is a trans demigirl, demisexual and biromantic, while Chester(he/him) is best described as queer, as he's too much of everything all at once! Evelynne is 21, and Chester is 20. Chester is a cat-person and has more hair on his body than regular humans.
Evelynne is stoic, melancholic, lethargic, but strong-spirited, intelligent, brave and responsible. She used to be really sickly and often bedridden, but now that she isn't really living, it's not something that she experiences. What she experiences now is much more terrifying though: at certain instances she stops being able to control her body and it goes into a rage mode, lashing out at everything in her view. She doesn't remember this happening after she regains control over herself.
Chester is a sly, cunning, selfish and brazen bastard, but he's also sensitive to other people's feelings, probably has a good heart, and is full of whimsy. And grief. So so so much grief. His hands and mind are forever stained with the blood of everything he slayed on his mission of bringing Evelynne back to life. It is a punishment Death gave him for deceiving it and stealing The Fallen Crown and The Veil of Life from it. But Chester is too far gone to pay it any mind. He's just happy he has the light of his life back.
(Visual representation of how his forever bloody hands and feet look like)
The only thing that maintains the human appearance of Evelynne is The Fallen Crown and The Veil of Life. Without them, she's as dead as one can be. The Crown keeps her soul trapped in her body, and The Veil gives her the appearance of how she used to look like when she was alive.
With her reanimation came the curse of seeing the burdens of people around her. Everyone has them for different reasons, they cling to their backs and cloud their vision, they are the lives they took, they are the guilt they carry. Evelynne has a hard time looking at Chester now, as he has Something always clinging to his back, forever rising and churning, dripping all over him like tar. He has the biggest burden she has ever seen on anyone. Nobody else but her can see it, and it scares her so much she can barely look at other people.
When Evelynne was still little, it was impossible to make her smile, try as they might. That's why her father decided to introduce her to the children of his close noble merchant he has a homoerotic relationship with. He wanted her to have friends her age. Chester and Evelynne hit it off, Chester always pestering her and her always listening intently. Their friendship grew to the point where Evelynne didn't want him to leave after play dates. And one day, a miracle happened: a smile appeared on her face, and laughter rang out, so radiant that everyone went silent, their breath caught. Seeing how Chester was the first person ever to make his daughter laugh, the King appointed him to be their court jester from this point on. He accepted, of course, as he has never seen anyone as happy to be in his presence as her at that moment.
They all lived happily after that point. Evelynne was learning what her responsibilities were, laws, self-defense and any other skills she needed to rule the kingdom one day, and Chester was learning the art of trickery, poison-making and politics. He wasn't a court jester for shit and giggles! Well, he was, but he also wanted to help Evelynne in any way he could think of. That consisted of poison-making too, yes. But as the time went on, Evelynne's health began to decline, forcing her to be bedridden once again. No medic or alchemist could find a way to make her feel better in the long run, and it was clear to everyone that she didn't have much time left. It was clear to Chester too, but he couldn't accept it, he covered himself with layers and layers of denial, and continued to be her ray of sunshine in this trying time. After all, she was the only person in the world that mattered to him, the only one that made him feel alive and safe. This couldn't be happening, right? Right, everything was the same as it ever was.
Of course, that wasn't the case.
The King couldn't bear to see his beloved daughter be in so much pain day after day. Try as he might, he couldn't find anyone that could make her feel better. Filled with grief and uncertainty, he sought to find a way to make her go peacefully and painlessly. If he couldn't cure her, he didn't want to see her suffer much longer.
Her funeral was a blur. Adorned with flowers and jewelry, she looked so peaceful. But to Chester, nothing could be more painful than this. Everything clawed inside him, his mind filled with horrible screams and numbing silence at the same time. It wasn't real, it couldn't be. Chester could not comprehend this. He was the only one left standing when everyone left already.
Chester wasn't all there afterward. Days flew by while he was holed up in his room, his well-being forgotten by him, pure static in his head. There was no point in doing anything if there was no one to do this for. For him, Evelynne was the entire world. He spiraled fast and, in a fit of desperation, sought out to find a way to bring her back.
Of course, it wasn't easy, and definitely not healthy, but he did eventually find something. A tale about a crown and a veil that Death wears to walk in the world of the living. It was said that they keep it alive, and without them, it's nothing more than a skeleton. Chester was grasping at straws at this point, so he decided to find Death wherever it is and rob it of the crown and veil. He needed them more, surely. So he headed out on his bloodsoaked path to bring the princess back.
He did succeed in the end, but was it really worth it? Yes. Yes, it was, for him. He could not go on another day without Evelynne anymore. It didn't matter how many he had to kill to get his way. Food and sleep didn't matter to him, his tunnel vision was only set on his end goal. When he finally returned to his one and only love, he didn't tarry much longer. Adorning her with the crown and veil felt religious to him. When he saw Evelynne rising from her resting place, he felt something slipping in his mind. What a joyous moment it was for him! Seeing life come back to her eyes... he felt like God.
Chester's family consists of his father and sister. His parents divorced, and he hasn't seen his mother since. His sister's name is Maiya(she/they), she's a non-binary lesbian, and is older than Chester by one year. She is a knight and has a crush on Evelynne. They have a really strained relationship with Chester. She's righteous and believes in fair justice, is strict on herself and others, big-hearted and emotional. Chester liked to tease and play pranks on her when they were kids. They can't forgive him for what he did to Evelynne. It was painful to grieve for them too, but it was no excuse for him to resort to dark magic and refuse to accept fate. She actively ostrasizes him and refuses to call him their brother. If it was her will, he would have been executed for desecrating Evelynne's body in such a disrespectful way. To be honest, it's much more easier for Chester this way. Their father's name is Maissier-Astamond(he/him), he's agender and bisexual. He's a noble merchant, often on business trips to other kingdoms and settlements, which is why he rarely was home. His children were largely taught and brought up by servants. He tries to be understanding of Chester's path but can't help but be intimidated by the power his child has to trick Death itself. Chester already distanced himself from his family so as not to feel guilty. He doesn't need them anyway, he has Evelynne by his side now.
Evelynne's mother died soon after Evelynne's birth, but the King carried the legacy of her hard work for the peaceful life of their kingdom and taught Evelynne everything her mother would have wanted her to know and always remembered her with fondness and love. His name is Durassier(he/him), but it's reserved solely for close friends and family. I don't have art of him yet, but I'd describe him as a graceful and tall old man with golden eyes and long silver hair and beard. He is a stoic, patient, and kind king, looking out for his subjects and making sure that living in his kingdom is safe and peaceful.
(Here's also a brighter version of their concept art cause I realized that it's too dark xdd)
(Have this too <33)
Well that was a doozy to write, but I'm glad I finally wrote out their lore and finished their reference‼️‼️
