Okay, since this poll is already giving me some general pointers and I didn't get to finish the scene today, you all can help me some more.
We're going mostly with what fits "I will survive this" and "I'll get my revenge". "Evil doesn't pay" had a few bangers as well, but also a few that are too ironic and pompous, considering one mobster is talking to another. Choose in the attached poll from the following proverbs which i took from "Proverbi siciliani in uso. Tradotti e interpretati" by Sara Favarò.
Aria netta nun àvi paura di trona. - Translation: Tense air isn't afraid of thunder. - Meaning: If you have a clear conscience, no accusation can frighten you.
C'è ancora suli a Vicari. - Translation: There is still sun in Vicari. - Meaning: There are still time and possibilities left to reach the desired outcome.
L'aceddu 'nta jargia o canta pi stizza o canta pi raggia. - Translation: The caged bird sings either out of anger or out of rage. - Meaning: No one in captivity is happy, no much how they seemingly play along.
Nun ti fidari quannu a corda è grossa, ca u troppu tirari si sdillassa. - Translation: Don't trust when the rope is thick, since it will break when pulled too hard. - Meaning: There is a limit to a person's patience.
Occhi c'aviti fattu chianciri: chianciti! E si un putiti chianciri: lacrimati. - Translation: Eyes who've cried: Cry! And if you can't cry: shed tears. - Meaning: If you harmed others, don't be surprised if they find joy in your suffering.
Piruti, Piruti: Dio l'aiuti. - Translation: All lost, all lost: God will help you. - Meaning: The Lord works in mysterious ways and may help people stuck in hopeless situations.
P'un curnutu un curnutu e menzu. - Translation: For a cuckold, a cuckold and a half. - Meaning: Suffered harm will be paid back twofold.
- Translation: If a storm lasts this long, one could have two or three a day. - Meaning: What seems like a dire situation at first, may suddenly turn out to be only a minor inconvenience.
Tantu è l'acchianata, tantu è la scinnuta. - Translation: As high the ascend, so low the fall. - Meaning: Every success comes with an equally steep price.
- Translation: If a man keeps his back straight, then his head will be held high as well. - Meaning: No one can take your dignity from you if you keep your head high even through humiliation.
L'odiu nto cori di l'omu è comu u vermu 'nto fruttu. - Translation: Hate in the heart of men is like vermin in a fruit. - Meaning: Hate is a feeling that sneaks into your heart and is invisible to anyone else's eye.
Cu' sputa 'nt'a l'aria, 'n facci ci torna. - Translation: Who spits in the air will have it land on his face. - Meaning: What goes around, comes around.
#beablabbers#polls#writing#12 is kinda nice bc it goes well with Harry's. not that the reader will know bc the translation comes near the end.#but there are quite a few bangers in here#storie nostre#miche#arthur

Rimpianto.
Scusa.
Credevo durassi in eterno

Architecture studio Cro&Co Architecture delivers the Trinity Tower
The 150-meter Tour Trinity enjoys an exceptional location in the business district of La Défense, in Paris, on a site that had to be invented. In order to ensure its successful insertion in this particularly dense built environment, surrounded by architectural icons (CNIT, Tour Areva, Tour Total), Trinity stands above the traffic routes.

Located in Paris La Défense, Trinity is a 32-story tower, built ex nihilo on a concrete slab poured above a seven-lane roadway, a first in France. A major feat of civil engineering, the slab is planted, providing 3,500 square meters of landscaped public space and linking the previously disconnected neighborhoods of the CNIT (National Center of Industries and Techniques) and Coupole-Regnault: a concrete solution for enhancing the quality of life of its users on an urban scale.
Trinity is La Défense’s first tower to develop an offset core, yielding a “heart of life” with exterior glass-walled elevators running along the façade. Diverging from the traditional office building format, Trinity is a tower conceived to facilitate open interaction with its environment, and promotes a new way of working, through its shared spaces, its 43 planted terraces and balconies, its rooftop and its 4,000 m² devoted to services.
In an environment as dense and constrained as that of La Défense district, which houses 16 of France’s 20 tallest buildings but where very little area is still available for new construction, the first challenge was to invent the landholding on which the tower would be built. The solution was a feat of civil engineering: a concrete slab poured over seven traffic lanes, providing an ex nihilo land for the construction of a high-rise building.
Then, the project had to be integrated into the existing heterogeneous surroundings, counting a number of architectural icons (the CNIT and the Tour Areva), and smaller buildings such as Notre-Dame de la Pentecôte Church and residential buildings.
Particular attention was paid to the design of the furniture, created by the architect and manufactured by a French boat-hull builder. Three custom-made, 43-meter-long curved and sculpted aluminum furniture pieces structure the hall, providing sitting areas, reception desks, a bar desk, and more.
Imagined as a place of exchange, Trinity breaks with the conventions of the office tower and its standardized and monofunctional spaces by privileging serendipity, flexibility and pooling. It enables users to take full advantage of the tower’s spaces thanks to their reversibility and wide range of uses.
Inside the tower there are 45,000 m² of flexible work areas, 4,000 m² of services including reception, waiting areas, cafés and bars, and 1,500 m² of terraces and loggias accommodating nearly 4,500 employees.

There are, as a college friend pointed out to me a few months after ‘9/11’, atrocities committed in certain parts of the world alarmingly regularly, “but do we know the dates when those people were killed?” September 11th looks at what has changed in Iraq, and by extension in neighbouring countries, where, following the events in New York City on that date in 2001. Some of the traditions and rituals that take place in the show are somewhat unfamiliar to Western audiences, thus a post-show talk with the show’s director, Kuhel Khalid proved most insightful (there’s one every night during this short London run).
The more the play made sense to me – and it took some considerable thought before I fully grasped its messages – the more harrowing it became. The characters are not named, nor do they speak very much, except to pray, or, as happened in just the one scene, to read out a declaration from Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), spouting their usual rhetoric about invoking a very extreme and fundamentalist version of Islam that aims to annihilate anyone who disagrees with any aspect of it. In the old adage, a picture paints a thousand words, and in what is sometimes a very physical piece of theatre, the performers will sometimes have very sudden and unexpected movements.
The choreography is astonishing, with various fight scenes compelling and provocative. A man studiously sweeps the floor in such a way that leaves other characters terrified or horrified (or perhaps both) – it only becomes clear in the final moments of the play what exactly it is that’s being swept away. In another scene, a man is force-fed, presumably by ISIL, and there are other examples of how afraid people generally are in that part of the world. No one can be trusted, seemingly not even close friends and relatives.
The psychological impact over time on the populace is evident; gradually, less and less of their behaviour and conduct could be reasonably considered normal, or civilised. However open-minded or considerate of cultural conventions anyone in the audience could choose to be, the treatment of women in the play is, for the most part, grossly unfair. There is some relief when one female character manages to get her own back on a member of ISIL, though even this is hardly a cause for celebration: what came across very strongly was that a killer is a killer is a killer, whether Western soldier, ISIL member or local civilian. In portraying such an unpalatable portrait of daily life in Iraq the play suggests, without being preachy, that all this death and destruction is not indicative of a civilised society.
For all of the clashes and skirmishes, the most disturbing point for me was when a character suddenly fell. There he was, going about his business, and then he was gone, presumably dead having been shot from a distance. Still another character wants to have sexual relations with anything that moves, with varying degrees of success – let’s just say he finally gets his comeuppance.
At the rear of the stage, a large painting being completed whilst the play was in progress, of the Twin Towers ablaze, proved periodically interesting whenever the action slowed down – a deliberate artistic decision, it seemed to me, to subtly move the focus to the painting every so often to indicate a sort of ‘before’ and ‘after’ contrast. It was indeed, according to this production, the day the world changed – and not for the better.
It’s certainly worth a shot, as it were, if you like to see something different and challenging, and from another perspective. Enough sense can be made of it by simply continuing to watch and pay attention: in this one regard, at least, September 11th is not that far removed from a Western play with dozens of pages of dialogue. A curious and fascinating production.
Review by Chris Omaweng
Fear. Paranoia. Vulnerability. Iraqi fugitive Kuhel Khalid invites you to discover a patchwork of his memories from Iraq, in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, and how his sense of self, was suddenly subverted by a new Western stigma: terrorist.
From the streets of Baghdad to a London Stage, experience a perspective rarely given voice to, through a physical performance dealing with issues of Arab Identity in the World today.
“Who are we? Who can we trust? Are things really as they seem?” This controversial, raw play looks to challenge our assumptions about who and what a terrorist is, and how such people are created. It explores the complex relationship between terrorism and government agencies, a constant and chaotic collaboration which has resulted in the death, suffering, and displacement of millions of people around the world.
Performed by a multicultural cast of new migrants and refugees, expect this highly visual play to surprise you, shock you, confuse you and leave you with more questions than you had before.
