To the people saying Maitreyi Ramakrishnan should become the next Rapunzel.......
We all know where this is coming from, The little mermaid. So Halle Bailey played Ariel and yuh some people were mad about it cuz she's black but Ariel was portrayed as a white ginger, the movie was kinda bad too but the visual aesthetic were still pleasing even after she's black.
The reason behind this is the "ethereal effect", some beautiful people in the world have this. You can be the most attractive person in the world and still not have this effect. So because disney princesses have magical powers so this ethereal look will sute the characters much better.
Now coming back to Maitreyi, she is beautiful but she doesn't have the ethereal effect. Her logic of Rapunzel being brown was correct to cuz Indians do have the most beautiful hair, and it would be good if a brown girl played Elsa but not her. The character just wouldn't sute her. She's an amazing actress but not to the mark to play a Princess.....

Is that MAITREYI RAMAKRISHNAN? No, that’s just YESENIA PETRESCU. They were born on 14/10/1895 and are a DJINN living in Northknot Town. They work as the OWNER OF ANYTHING ELIXIR. Some say they're LOYAL and RESILIENT, but I’ve heard others say they're GUARDED and ALOOF. When you think of HER, don’t you think of A SILVER CHAIN WRAPPED AROUND HER WRIST LIKE AN OLD PROMISE, A CRACKED MIRROR THAT’S REFLECTING HER FACE IN FRAGMENTS & BRUISED KNUCKLES HIDDEN BEHIND SOFT, PERFUMED HANDS?
Name: Yesenia Sriyani Apaya Petrescu Nickname(s): Yesi, Nia, Yaya Birthday: October 14th Age: 129 (appears in early 20s) Zodiac Sign: Libra Gender: Cis-Female Pronouns: She/Her Species: Djinn Orientation: Demisexual Occupation: Owner of Anything Elixir Faceclaim: Maitreyi Ramakrishnan
HEADCANONS
Not only is she an expert in the art of herbal healing but she also shines in the kitchen, turning every meal into a masterpiece. Yesenia’s cooking is not just skillful but it's infused with a touch of magic
Her dishes can evoke strong memories or emotions in those who eat them, making every meal a deeply personal experience. This ability comes from the enchanted herbs and spices she gathers, each with its own subtle, mystical properties
Despite her aloofness, Yesi has a secret network of informants and allies within Northknot. She uses her position and her magical abilities to subtly guide and protect those who might be in danger, often without their knowing
She has a particular fondness for songs and lullabies from her past, which she occasionally hums or sings softly while working. These tunes are a bittersweet reminder of her lost love and her former life
Yesenia dreams of a peaceful retreat somewhere isolated and serene, where she can fully heal and perhaps one day open a small, private sanctuary. It’s a dream she keeps close to her heart and only shares with those she deeply trusts
She’s an accomplished painter, using her art as a form of therapy. Her paintings often feature abstract, fragmented images reflecting her emotional state and past traumas, though she keeps them hidden away in a private space within her loft
APPEARANCE
Yesenia carries an aura of mysterious elegance and distant grace. Her movements are deliberate and measured, like a dance between grace and melancholy. She typically dresses in flowing garments that blend historical and modern influences, favoring deep, muted colors that highlight her ethereal presence. Her hair, often worn loose or in a simple, sophisticated style, frames her face in soft waves. Her eyes, though distant, hold a profound depth that hints at untold stories. Her voice is soft but carries a subtle, melodic quality, often revealing a hidden warmth beneath her cool exterior.
AESTHETIC
lipstick smudged from unkissed lips - a silver chain wrapped around her wrist like an old promise - footsteps left in the dust, erased by a swirling desert wind - a cracked mirror that's reflecting her face in fragments - fingerprints on golden cuffs, now cold and unadorned - bruised knuckles hidden behind soft, perfumed hands - a dagger hidden in the folds of a lace sleeve - wine spilled across a letter, ink bleeding into the table
CONNECTIONS
Long-Lost Sibling They were separated during their early years of servitude. Maybe the other was hidden away for their protection after Yesenia was gifted to the Ottomans. They spent years searching for each other and (will) finally reunite in Northknot
Ex-Companion During her early years in Northknot, she got really close to someone and their relationship became deeply emotional and complicated, marked by shared adventures and a brief, intense romance. The other left abruptly under mysterious circumstances, and their last encounter was filled with unresolved feelings and unspoken words
Former Love Interest (George) A brief but intense love interest from Yesenia’s past, before her tragic romance with the Veliahd. They were a charismatic and adventurous spirit who briefly brought light into Yesenia’s life. Their relationship ended abruptly due to circumstances beyond their control, leaving a bittersweet memory for Yesenia. They occasionally resurface in her life and the two's interactions are charged with nostalgia and unresolved feelings
BIOGRAPHY
tw: servitude, tyranny, (gun) violence, death
"A heart that has been broken, though mended, can never be the same."
Born in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) in 1895, Yesenia entered the world as a djinn, bound by fate to serve others. Her early life in the British Empire was one of servitude until she was given as a gift to the heir apparent of the Ottoman Empire. This arrangement was meant to ensure peace between the British and the Ottomans, but it placed Yesenia in a precarious position, as the royal family’s notorious cruelty made her fear for her safety. To her surprise, the Veliahd, a kind and compassionate soul, was nothing like his tyrannical family. The two quickly formed a deep bond, evolving from friends to secret lovers. Dreams of escape filled their nights as they planned to flee to Northknot, a town where supernatural beings and humans coexisted freely.
“True connection knows no boundaries, not even the cruel hand of fate.”
During her first years at the palace, Yesenia met Zafir, a revered djinn known to the royal family through a peace agreement. Their encounters were brief and formal, yet there was an unspoken connection that lingered between them. However, everything changed on that fateful night when Yesenia waited outside the castle grounds for the Veliahd. As he approached quietly, her heart soared with hope, picturing their new life together. But then, in a tragic twist, royal guards ambushed them, and the Veliahd was fatally shot. In their final moments, he urged her to escape alone, wishing her freedom. Devastated, Yesenia fled into the night.
"The scars of loss are etched deeply, reminders of what can never be regained."
Yesenia ran for a long time until she felt safe enough to stop, rest, and truly confront her loss. The grief became overwhelming, hardening her spirit and transforming her from a gentle soul into a shadowed figure. The darkness engulfed her, leading her to shut herself off completely, becoming guarded and aloof. Though she struggled to trust others, she would sometimes help those who reminded her of her lost love or her former self, using her powers in secret. It was during this time that she encountered Zafir again, now a captive himself, having been tricked into bondage. Their secret meetings, while he was held captive, forged a deeper bond between them. He became her mentor, teaching her how to fight and protect herself, and in turn, he became like a protective older brother. Together, they navigated the shadows of their pasts, and Zafir was one of the few who witnessed both her darker sides and the flickers of hope that remained.
“Sometimes, in the depths of despair, we find the strength to rise anew.”
After several years of wandering across Asia, Europe, and Greenland, Yesenia finally settled in the small Canadian town of Northknot in 1924. With savings from her travels, she bought a loft and the shop beneath it, opening an apothecary where she sold remedies she had learned to make. As Northknot began to feel like home, Yesenia became more reserved and detached because she felt like she couldn't trust it. Still, over the years, Zafir became an inseparable part of her life. Yesenia was often traveling to meet him until he decided to move to Northknot as well. Their powerful and authentic bond became a source of strength for both, allowing Yesenia to embrace her past while forging a new path forward.
"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others."
Now, one hundred years since settling in the city, Yesenia has become a quiet yet steadfast presence in Northknot. Her apothecary, now a beloved fixture in the community, is known for its unique blend of traditional remedies and mystical potions. Despite her reserved nature, she has earned the respect and trust of the townspeople, who value her wisdom and the subtle, almost magical touch she brings to her work. Though she still battles the shadows of her past, Yesenia has found a semblance of peace in her new life, dedicating herself to helping those in need and safeguarding the delicate balance between the supernatural and the mundane. Her once-buried hope and compassion occasionally shine through, especially when she helps someone who reminds her of her own journey or her lost love, and while she remains an enigma to many, those who truly know her see a resilient soul who has found a place where she can be both a protector and a healer, quietly making a difference in a world that has evolved far beyond her wildest dreams.

[ MAITREYI RAMAKRISHNAN, SHE / HER, CIS WOMAN ]  —  [ SAVANI “SAV”  BHARAT ]  is a child of  [ DEIMOS ]  with the power of  [ TERROR MANIPULATION ] .  they were born in  [ 2001 ]  and have been in nemean lion since  [ 2015 ] .  with the change, they  [ ARE GRADUATED FROM ]  the  [ AMBASSADOR ]  role which makes sense since they’re usually  [ BANNING CHATTERS AND BEING DRAMATIC ] .
i had lost muse for amy so i have revamped-ish / dropped her in favor of sav, who is similar in terms of track & profession, but her personality + powers have been updated mainly!! if we had existing plots for amy i’ll reach out to see if/how you’d like to tweak them
savani has been at nl since she was about fifteen, her mom was a little bit in the running for worst parent and didn’t want to deal with sav’s grief over losing a sibling, nl was the easiest option to keep her fairly safe
she only sees her family on occasion, mainly stays at campus since the majority of them didn’t know she was a demigod and, even now, she’s not sure how much her mother has told them
baby had some charisma to her and was still in her tdi vc i wanna be famous stage when she first got to nl so once she had the idea + opportunity to become an ambassador, she took it as a sign
she’s still a streamer, still league bc what’s more toxic than a league streamer truly ? stream name tbd at a later date, but she also now plays valorant to balance some of the drama out & gta v to bring it right back in
she’s got a goth gf vibe to her, but in the way that cartoons portray them — more e-girl aesthetic than goth, but lots of black and she’ll put chalk in her hair when she wants a change, especially for stream. it’s part real and part carefully curated, because she knew her audience would eat it up when she first started and she’s stuck to it
quite a bit overdramatic, she’s a scorpio, she plays up her personality even further on camera, always in for publicity stunts so long as they won’t harm her image
she rarely uses her powers but she’s not Below using them either if it would benefit her
quick potential connections
rival streamers
close friends (1/?)
exes (good terms)
someone she’s used her powers on (unintentional or no)
publicity relationships (friends, dating, teammates, etc)

Never Have I Ever review: Mindy Kaling’s Netflix show takes desi drama worldwide - tv
https://www.liveindiatimes.com/never-have-i-ever-review-mindy-kalings-netflix-show-takes-desi-drama-worldwide-tv/
Never Have I Ever Creators – Mindy Kaling, Lang Fisher Cast – Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Poorna Jagannathan, Richa Moorjani, Sendhil Ramamurthy
One of the biggest ironies about Never Have I Ever is something that’ll most likely slip under the radar. The protagonist of the new Netflix show is called Devi, the Sanskrit word for ‘goddess’, but that’s probably the last word anyone would use to describe her.
Played by newcomer Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, who was chosen from 15000 possible candidates in an open casting call, Devi is a brash, slightly arrogant teenager with a tendency to get herself into trouble. This is perhaps one of the reasons why creators Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher came up with the brilliant idea to cast the famously ill-mannered tennis legend John McEnroe as the show’s narrator.
Watch the Never Have I Ever trailer here
youtube
McEnroe is a born showman, so the fact that his acerbic, Arrested Development-style narration is the highlight of Never Have I Ever shouldn’t come as a surprise, but who knew he was this funny? To hear him describe Indian aunties — “Aunties are old Indian women who have no relation to you but are allowed to have opinions about your life and shortcomings” — is glorious.
And the aunties certainly have a lot to say about young Devi. She’d like to think of herself as someone who has ‘the beauty of Priyanka Chopra and the incisive intellect of RBG’, but in reality, she’s struggling to cope with the death of her father, the demands of being an American teenager, and the pressures of living up to her mother’s Indian ideals.
Part teen romance, part coming-of-age comedy, Never Have I Ever is a delicately written little show, an immigrant tale that feels just about authentic enough to survive in a world where Master of None and Little America exist. Aesthetically, it’s more of a sitcom than either of those two shows; something like Fresh Off the Boat, but it does a much better job at balancing the comedy and the drama.
One of its quieter achievements is its characterisation of Devi’s mother, Nalini, played by Poorna Jagannathan. It’s a layered role — perhaps unexpectedly so — one that requires Jagannathan to wear several caps. A widow, a single mother and a driven professional, Nalini is often called to switch between these roles at the drop of a ‘topi’. It might be slightly alarming for American audiences to watch a mother threaten her daughter with casual violence, but Jagannathan’s performance never allows Nalini to slip into the stereotype of a strict South Asian parent. She’s strong-willed and fiercely independent, but also prone to moments of vulnerability.
Also read: Sex Education season 2 review: Netflix’s terrific teen comedy is still a turn-on
But it’ll be even more alarming for American audiences to watch Indian characters who, with the exception of cousin Kamala, do not sound like some sort of racist caricature. At its core, Never Have I Ever — which don’t get me wrong, spends a lot of time on Devi’s pursuit of the school heartthrob — is a story about three women. To the foreign eye, Nalini, Devi and Kamala are simply immigrants. But each of them is written with depth, and the show is very empathetic to its supporting characters, to the point that Devi’s storyline sometimes feels secondary.
But Maitreyi Ramakrishnan is a gifted actor. Often, Devi’s behaviour is repulsive — she’s selfish, ungrateful and petty — but that’s what makes her a real person. Never Have I Ever slaps on a thick layer of brown on a white-washed industry, and takes desi drama worldwide.
