First art of my Naruto oc Shiori Ito! Art done fabulously by @skykashi
You truly did a fantastic job bringing her to life. Thank you so much!
I'm only part way through Shippuden. Things in this lore could change as I continue through the anime. I know some stuff that happens but don't quite know when. This is just what I have so far.
Placing a cut here so this novel doesn't bog down anyone's feed. Under it is her lore if you wanna read it.
There's some darker stuff in how she got her scars and mention of her mother struggling with infertility. So be aware of that.
Shiori comes from a clan that is dying out. She and her father, Kenshin Ito, might be the only remaining blood members of the family.
Her father adored his wife. She was the light of his life but she struggled to conceive and carry children. After trying for a long time, she was finally able to have a single baby, Shiori. The pregnancy was extremely difficult and they were told to go through this again may result in the mother dying. Her father was not exactly thrilled that his one child was a girl but didn't want to lose his wife.
You see, the notoriety of the clan had died out with the other members. So if Shiori were to marry, they had no real leverage to request that the man take their name. Their only bargaining chip was their Kekkei Genkai. But even that probably wouldn't be enough. So her father was just going to have to be content with the family he had and accept that he and Shiori would be the last of their clan and the power would pass to a new name if she married.
Yeah... he couldn't. For the first few years, he tried. He really did. But the idea of his daughter marrying and their name disappearing and their power being given to another man's name bothered him. It bothered him so much that in his anger of being the man to let the Ito clan pass to unworthy hands, he decided that it was best for it to die with them now rather than be muddied. Yay.
One day, he took Shiori out for training. He'd started to show her how to use their Kekkei Genkai recently. The power itself is a poison release where they can take poisons out of plants around them and crystallize them into darts. She thought nothing of it and she was also a child who trusted her father. Instead of starting to train, he pinned her to the ground and was going to drive a blade through her heart then do the same to himself. What stopped him was realizing that killing Shiori would devastate his wife. She'd been through so much heartache trying to have a child that he'd be robbing her of that happiness. He then came to the realization that he only needed to make her hideous enough so that no man would want her. He took the blade to her face and began to cut it up. Telling her that no one would want her if she was a disfigured monster (not those words exactly but that's the gist).
Shiori fought back and tried to escape but being that she was little, only incurred defensive cuts on her hands and arms. Mama Ito heard her screams from the garden and instantly came running. Coming upon the scene of her husband disfiguring her baby. Without hesitation, she struck him with the small shovel she was holding until he passed out or died. They don't know which. He fell limp and Mama Ito scooped up Shiori, got what little she could carry and the two left for the village hidden in the leaves. There, they would start over unsure if her father had survived. Mama Ito works in Ino's family's flower shop.
Upon arriving, Shiori noticed instantly that people stared at her. At first she understood it was concern but some of the children poked fun at her and that mixed with the concern and her father's words, she began to see herself as a hideous monster. Her mother got her a mask to wear. Painting some of her favorite flowers on the surface. She wanted Shiori to see herself how she saw her. Mama Ito intended the mask to be a thing to help her only until the cuts healed to scars. It became a twenty year thing. In fact, after the first few days in the village, no one has seen Shiori without a mask in public. It just sorta became the norm. Despite her mother's best attempts, Shiori still sees her face as being unpleasant and hard to look at.
Now, when she was a child but after she started to wear the mask, she met Guy. Despite wearing the mask, some of the village boys would pick on her and push her around. Guy wasn't having any of this. Challenging the boys to a fight and promptly getting his ass kicked. Shiori would visit him in the hospital and brought him flowers. He'd get in fights with the same boys over her multiple times and each time she'd visit him in the hospital and bring him flowers. Always the same ones. Lavender, Verbena and Jasmine for healing, daisies for gratitude and a single red rose. She was smitten.
For years, throughout their training, he'd cheer her on and she'd do so for him quietly. She grew up to be a soft spoken person. Every time she thought about telling Guy how she felt, she imagined taking off her mask and seeing him shrink back in disgust. So she would just stay put. She was assigned a trio and went through the normal training. Due to her Kekkei Genkai and skill as a Shinobi, she was brought into the ANBU Black Ops pretty early. She was sent on missions with Kakashi a few times. They bonded despite both being reserved and enjoyed working together. He noticed her interest in Guy right away. On their first mission together, she was quiet but super professional and extremely good at what she does. But the moment they returned and Guy would challenge Kakashi and greet her, she was a bumbling mess.
At the time of Naruto, she was selected by the 3rd Hokage and works directly with him (and later Tsunade). Both find her gentle nature in spite of the darkness caused by her trauma to be trustworthy and neither fear she would doublecross them. Otherwise she does normal ranked missions. She and Kakashi are friends and both are fans of the Make-Out Tactics and Make-Out Paradise books.
Shiori has an affinity for animal companions. A favorite headcanon of mine is summons are just naturally drawn to her. She has her own summon, a mouse called Akko (might change it later).
Shiori and Guy end up together in a rather humorous way. Due to her worry that Guy would find her face disgusting, Shiori planned to keep her feelings to herself and just hope whomever he picked would love him the way he deserved to be loved. She also thought that Guy had worked so hard for everything he had so he deserved to have a partner that wasn't a challenge to love. Fate, or rather a misunderstanding by Rock Lee had other plans.
Lee overhears Shiori's friends poking lighthearted fun at her crush on a certain green jumpsuit and thought they were referring to him. He asks Guy what to do without telling him that it was Shiori. Guy's advice is to be forthright with her. Lee asks Guy to come with him for support. Lee then approaches Shiori and very loudly proclaims that he's flattered but his heart belongs to Sakura. Guy, deeply confused, asks Lee to paint him a clearer picture of the situation. Lee explains what he overheard (green jumpsuit, bowl cut, power of youth) and Guy is flabbergasted. He had no idea that Shiori felt that way about him. He poses the alternative of it being him and not Lee. Lee does see how this makes more sense and wants to apologize but Shiori has already fled. Begging Lady Tsunade to send her on a mission before she has to face this.
Guy comes looking for her to talk about what Lee had overheard. It all comes out then. She admits to her longstanding crush, she reveals her scarred face to him and they decide to explore this. Guy isn't offput by her facial scars in the least. He actually finds the scars to be very beautiful. He thinks she should stop wearing the mask. The scars are a testament to her resilience and accomplishment in suffering and coming out kind despite it. It takes a long time but eventually she gains the courage to go without the mask.
I do plan for her to face her father in the future. He'd come to Konoha but I'm not sure when or what he's been doing this whole time. Guy is extremely ready to fight him though.
But that's what I got so far...
(Besides the Jiraiya lore 😏)

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So! I don't want my page to die, but I've also been super busy as of late. The most I can offer until I get more cosplay stuff settled is this dumpster fire of sketches. I have two pieces that I was supposed to complete for a con, one oc page wip, a math whiteboard doodle, and a lovely gift from a friend of Obito sucking Sonic's chili dog. I don't know why it's as horrifying as it is, but it is- Anyway! I hope this is okay for now, especially since I have something so exciting to share with everyone within the upcoming week!! I'll see you then!!

Volleyball AU (Naruto)
Tumblr media
a/n: more au thoughts!! but with a little bit of organization this time <3
oc | gen word count: 2k
Tae, Shisui, and Inaba weren't on the same volleyball team in middle school because of gender divides but they played together often regardless and had outstanding teamwork - Shisui had to move early in their first year of high school because his dad needed treatment and they'd have a better chance of getting it in the big city; everyone said their goodbyes and promised to get to the inter-high for him and by miraculous luck, they did
He managed to take the day off to spectate their win in the second round, but after the match Inaba stated that this should have been his win too in front of everyone - once they were all back at school and Shisui was gone, Tae slapped Inaba after he called their former team mate a coward for running out on them; a teacher saw but Inaba took the fall by saying it was self-defense and got suspended
The truth was that Shisui had the option to stay until the tournament and their advisor recommended that he did but his mother wanted to keep the family close and dismissed it as just a club activity; since he wasn't going to keep playing after high school, Shisui relented and half heartedly agreed that it would be better in the long run for his studies anyway
Inaba overheard the conversation back then, keeping quiet to respect his wishes but was still mad; angry that Shisui threw away their shared dream to reach the top, that he threw away Tae's efforts to open a path for them as the setter to both potential aces, and more importantly that Shisui was willing to let go of his own ambitions so easily
Tae was aware of this because Shisui confided in him as a friend and since they had something partially going on at the time, but he also knew that wasn't Inaba's story to tell
With their ace suspended, they lost their third match and Mizuki also left the team; unbeknownst to everyone else at the time but he was being pressured by his father to quit sports and focus more on his studies - because Mr. Touji noticed his son was spending his free time with the volleyball team instead of at home, where he had less control over him, and wanted to nip that budding support network before it became too troublesome for him
Their advisor was heavily criticized the supposed fight that happened within his team and was transferred to a different school as well - Morinaga High's Boy's Volleyball Team was more or less left in shambles for months after these incidents and wouldn't pick back up until the end of their first year where Kohaku, a second year, joins on a whim because they wanted to see if the team who made it to the Inter-High was really a fluke or not
Kohaku was a breathe of fresh air for their team, shaking things up even when Inaba came back from suspension and the vibe was still incredibly awkward - with Shisui gone, Tae took up the mantle of Team Captain and within a matter of weeks Kohaku proved that they were fit to be the co-captain steading his course
Tae and Inaba managed to make up over the holidays and everyone began to find their footing again at the start of their second year; Tae went as far as to publicly prostrate in the rain as Mizuki arrived at school to beg him to come back as their libero, that no one else could protect their backs like he could - mildly embarrassing his twin brother in the process as Takashi's friends giggled from an upstairs window at the dramatic gesture
Mizuki declined in the moment but slowly started to reconsider after being approached by Inaba later on and told that the reason he came back even after everything was because the court was the only place where Inaba felt he belonged, and suspected—no, he knew—that he wasn't alone in this feeling; Inaba knew that he really was a good-for-nothing ball hog but so long as Tae was willing to open up a path to their victory, he'd be his ace for as long as he needed
Aside from that being the gayest thing Mizuki ever heard, he agreed to rejoin the team for Morinaga High's volleyball renaissance era; it's also around this time where Tae convinces his older sibling Hyou, the former libero for their school's girl's team around 5 years ago, to come on as their coach
Hyou noticed something fishy about Mizuki immediately, mostly from passing, worrying, anecdotes that they'd heard from their younger brother about him, and a case is opened about getting him and his mother away from his father; a former football star who had to quit due to an injury in his prime when Mizuki was very young - Mizuki ends up retiring from volleyball later on as an adult because of an injury as well, though not as severe, but he's determined to not let that make him anything like his father
Tenzo ends up joining around this time because he's looking for extracurriculars that would look good on his uni application later on, and eventually even he's swept up in the vigorous flow of everyone's passion for volleyball as well, after being accepted with open arts since they needed someone to fill in the gap left in their defense with Shisui gone
They make pretty far into the inter-high that year, but in the end only place third, Kohaku retires after this to focus on their studies and the team gives them a send-off like they're walking onto a battlefield filled with tears, bows, and promises that they'll make it to nationals next time for sure
Kohaku laughs at their friends' theatrics, because it's not like they'll never see each other again—senpai's going to further their education, not die, you guys—and reassures everyone that they might not go pro, but Kohaku still plans to play for their uni's volleyball team so they'd better not slack off
The same year, Inaba loses his father but makes up with Shisui over the grief - things are still awkward here and there, but they begin to get close to the easy friendship they once shared as middle school kids just learning how to spike a ball for the first time again, playfully pushing and shoving each other so that they'd grow and improve with every step surpassed
Mizuki's father makes an unwanted appearance before one of their practice matches but his team quickly stands between them with Kohaku, Inaba and Kotetsu in front - the tallest and most aggressive members - though the situation is thankfully deescalated once the adults (Hyou, Genma, and the other team's coach) step in
Tae's the one to hold his hand while Mizuki takes a moment to himself in the storage room alone, but everyone welcomes him back to the court in the second half of their match once he's reoriented himself and more fired up than ever
In their final year, Tae, Inaba, Kotetsu, Izumo, Tenzo, and Mizuki make it to nationals as promised, with a few juniors to whip into shape pass the torch onto once they leave; the crowd's packed with friends, previous foes, and rivals all anticipating to see the outcome of everyone's efforts, from both the Morinaga boys and their opponents
Tae let Jiraiya know that they made it to nationals over a voice message, that he knew his dad would probably be watching from a screen anyway but if he had the time, he'd appreciated it if he could be there in person for this last one, so he saved him a seat
He spends part of his attention looking over to that empty spot more than he should, so even though Morinaga wins the first match, the lose the second one because of unnecessary mistakes on Tae's end; of course, he's not the only one making them, they're all tired, but everyone's a bit uneasy about their captain's thoughts being elsewhere during their final round and try cheering him up
Just as the third round starts, Tae's distracted again and takes a service ace directly to the face when he sees his brother cheering him on from that very same seat when he was supposed to be attending some important thing for the med school scholarship he'd start attending in the new year; Takashi almost hops down himself to check on his idiot twin but thankfully Tae's cleared by the medics on deck to play again with no concussions
Initially, Hyou was worried that Inaba and Shisui were his brother's wings and vice versa - that with one of them gone, the others would lose the ability to fly - but over the last two years of guiding these kids, nurturing their skills and watching them mature into the athletes playing the current match, they'd gladly correct their previous observations
While at some point those two were the wings that helped Tae soar, the team on the court today was much more akin to extra limbs to aid their captain's goals; hidden deep within a forest of tall, dense trees lived a three-faced Oni with many arms that it used to protect it's home - to Hyou, this current team with their monstrous, explosive power - was that Oni
Discussing this idea with Kakashi, he mentioned that Buddhist imagery would probably fit better and show the boys in a more appealing light, then he began talking about sketches to put them all on a poster for their next big match; Genma told them to just get their heads in the game already
Ultimately, Morinaga High won
Once the silence of that last point had settled, the cheers were raucous from both the winning team themself and the crowd - Gai was a bit overzealous and managed to top Kakashi over the railing, but Hyou made a diving roll to catch him and somehow, they were mostly unharmed - all Genma had to say about his childhood friends potentially embarrassing themselves on national tv was that their old libero still had it
The boys themselves needed a second for it to sink in, but after that it was nothing but celebration; Kotetsu jumped into Izumo's arms, both in tears, Tenzo sunk to his knees from three rounds of rigorous play with points going into the 30s for the last one, Tae collapsed under the weight of his exhaustion but laughed on the way down, only to be hoisted up by Mizuki and Inaba, who spiked the winning point, so they could get ready to bow properly - the reserve players consisting mostly of juniors were absolutely beside themselves, even Yomu couldn't hide his smile at their win - though that was mostly aimed at his boyfriend in the crowd
Rio, their senpai who already graduated and was the team's manager in their first year, drove Shisui see the match in person despite their busy schedule with law school and had to leave just as quickly as they arrived - meaning Uchiha was on his own for finding a ride back but they weren't worried about that; Tae wanted to hug them for this favor like he had with Shisui, all but tackling him just like Tetsu and Zumo earlier, but they held him at arm's length since he was all sweaty
Kohaku had other obligations at the time, but everyone's phones had a million messages in the group chat from Kohaku liveblogging their experience watching the match wherever they were; they were supposed to be helping family with spring cleaning, but kept sneaking out to catch their juniors play through the tablet - eventually, their aunt relented and just put the match up on tv for the whole family since it was on
On the bus ride home, Shisui tagged along since he had nowhere else to go and no money, sitting between Tae and Inaba who slept like logs along with the rest of them; everyone was exhausted save for maybe a couple of the two juniors, even the coaches slept until their lodgings for the week came into view
Everyone trudged out of the bus sore, exhausted, but accomplished - they all celebrated with a huge dinner on the school's dime and promptly crashed from the day's excitement
