So Wolverine is now confirmed for not one, not two, not even three, but FOUR books in the relaunch. Meanwhile characters like Iceman, Polaris, Colossus, and the New Mutants (minus Magik) aren’t even confirmed for one book 🤡

Earth Dragon of the First Realm heacanons/lore part 5
A group of Primordial Earth Dragons is often referred to as a crash, and for good reason, too. Various tales in the mountainous regions of the First Realm are of deafening roars that can rival volcanic eruptions and crash thunder that looms in the distance. When in reality it's often Earth Dragon's engaging in ritualistic combat for events and celebrations.
Earth Dragons are often considered to be the strongest of the Primordial Dragons, in legends of old their steps are said to make the ground tremble and quake. Their tails reflecting the great jagged boulders that get dislodged by rockslides or carved by water. If there was a kin blessed by the Strength Source Dragon- it would be the Primordial Earth Dragons and those that came after.
Even more social than Fire Dragons, you will often find at least one Earth Dragon in a mixed flock or in a crash of up to ten to twelve members. Often lead by the eldest female or male, how one can tell the age of a Primordial Earth Dragon is by the size of its horns and tusks. The larger the tusks and horns, the more old it is.
Leadership is often passed in a non-combative way down to those who the crash leader deems fit, for they will wait the suitor to become capable of leading the crash one they are not able to. Most leaders do not want those who respond with violence. They want those who respond with what they feel is right in their gut.
While it is not the best way to tell, there will often be a substantial age gap between Earth Dragons who are able to use magma as an offensive/defensive capability. They can tap into the powers of magma and coat their front limbs with it. As a result, not only does their breath change from a blast of sand and dirt that can petrify anything on contact with the air, but their breath changes to lava.
Some Earth Dragons of different realms have become one with the magma and lava however. Rockslide for example has become one with it, the lava cracks amongst his eyes prove that he had sworn to the very heat from volcanoes. No longer able to use the petrification breath other Earth Dragons are able to use, like Slab for example- though he is able to tap into the magma.
However, these are only used in dire situation and specific ceremonies. One of those, being the passing of a Earth Dragon. Particularly a crash leader. Earth Dragons will create a miniature volcano or egg sort of structure then fill it with lava from their forelimbs and breath, poking holes on the outside to let the lava pour out. This done to symbolize how the cycle of death and life is a constant, how volcanoes will form new land and the moving plates within the earth will change it over time. Additionally, its to prove that the soul is eternal, just like the heat within volcanoes despite the damage done to the mortal body. (The Earth Wyvern in the Monastery of Spinjitzu, named Rockslide - is of this belief).
During the reign of Iron Baron, Fire Dragons and Earth Dragons saw the most overhunting. Fire Dragons for their ability to create the perfect weapons with pure flames and Earth Dragons for entertainment, tusks horns and spines. Slab was named by Iron Baron himself, caught after attempting to save Ultra Dragon. However, he was the reason Stormbringer and her son managed to escape Dead's End after he went on a rampage, yet was ultimately restrained and thrown into the pit where he would later need to fight against many a hunter.
He would later be the one to ferry Cole, the Earth Ninja home to Ninjago and engage in combat against the Oni Colossus with Nomad the Gasher.

New Rain World AU: Colossus AU
Basic Summary:
In this AU, the iterators are colossi in charge of specific, elemental domains while also working on the “Great Problem”. There are several hundred iterators that cover these areas all over the world.
This AU is basically a mash of (Roman, Greek, Egyptian, etc.) mythological fantasy and technology.
Colossal Lore Dump and Art Below~
To ancients, these colossi are godlike in comparison with the abilities to solve the unthinkable and prevent natural disasters from occurring.
Speaking of ancients; instead of all of them leaving by mass ascension, roughly 10% hid away for generations to make sure they wouldn’t be forced to ascend. Inhabitants close to the Local Group just so happen to finally leave their cave dwellings during survivors’s/monk’s timeline. And, of course, when the descendants ‘meet’ some of these colossi…they think they’re going to die. They are TERRIFIED of these beings; despite them doing their best to ease them of their worries.
Example: This is their first introduction to NSH.
Local Group:
The local group still consists of six original members with LttM still acting as the administrator.
No Significant Harassment runs the general surface and mountain ranges of the local group’s territory. He makes sure earthquakes and landslides aren’t a problem.
Five Pebbles is in charge of the ocean and its depths. The lower half of his body is serpentine, making him the longest iterator of the group, but he cannot walk on land. He makes sure tsunamis don’t breach the shorelines.
Seven Red Suns oversee the underground and keep an eye on both the void and magma activity. Their body is the most flexible and durable, with the added resistance to heat and pressure. They watch for volcanic and void eruptions.
Chasing Wind watches the skies. Unlike the other colossi, they are actually made up of small, nano-versions that combine to make the collective iterator. The small nanites have built-in wings, giving the illusion that Chasing Wind (as a collective) flies without visible wings. They disrupt tornado and hurricane formations.
Unparalleled Innocence is the medical colossus in charge of a very large facility in the center of the region. Similarly to how the original iterators were designed, they are one with the building and can save/cure thousands at once. They prevent plagues from spreading. (Of course, this means they suffered the most when they believed ALL of the ancients left them behind.)
Looks to the Moon oversees all the colossi iterators in the domain. She ensures everyone does their job correctly and reminds them of their own upkeep. She is also known to assist them in the tasks previously stated when there is an issue. Because of this, she has wings and propellers that guide her through the sky and in the water.. Help with Suns, however, is limited because of her lack of heat resistance. But she makes up for this by having cold resistance instead.
UH:
I'm still trying to figure a few things out: like the general height of the colossi -- especially since they're all different. They’re supposed to be BIG, but having them be canonical superstructure height (roughly 1.2 miles high according to @delta-orionis 's post) would be too much. Having them be that big would only cause more harm than good. Although, most of them do have the ability to change their size, up to a certain extent. Only the structure-based iterators, like UI, can’t.
For example: I see NSH as being approximately 1400ft. tall -- about the size of the Empire State Building in New York City
Also, plotwise, I don't really have anything except them trying to win back the ancients (or in this case, their descendants) favor and see they only want to help, but they continuously screw up sitcom style.
Also also, they sometimes step on each others toes when trying to do their work AND help the ancients reintroduce themselves from hiding. (On purpose or not)
That's all I have for now. If you have questions feel free to ask! Also have fun with the concept, don't be afraid to apply your ocs or versions of the local group to it.
I was inspired by Jorge Rivera-Herrans "Epic" sagas, check out his work on Youtube. :D

Remaking "X-Men" (2000)
Over a year and a half ago, I made a two-part post remaking 6 X-Men movies based on the direction Fox had for them, but I thought I'd plot out an alternate universe where I say what direction the films go in. And to note: this isn't like "X-Men: The Animated Series" where I'm gonna be 100% faithful to the source material. It's moreso giving me standards and parameters for how to do this. And to avoid confusion, let's say the cast is the same for all the characters (though I could do a fancast on another post). Disclaimer: despite XM being my favorite comic property, I'm NOT an expert on them in and out, with my first intro to them being Fox, "X-Men: Evolution," and "Wolverine and the X-Men." And my ideas/characters may be too much for a 90-minute film, so there's that. But I tried to tone it down to 3 main points.
The Xavier institutes' inhabitants include Professor X, Jean Grey, Cyclops, Storm, Beast, Iceman, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Angel, Havoc, Banshee, Colossus, Dazzler (sometimes), Shadowcat, Jubilee, Sunfire (sometimes), and the New Mutants, which consist of Cannonball, Karma, Mirage, Magik, Sunspot, Wolfsbane, Cypher, and Magma). However, only the first 8 names listed get the spotlight in this film, along with Rogue, who is the main character and is taken up by the Brotherhood after the prologue, which I actually really loved from the Fox movie. Everyone gets individual costumes here rather than uniforms (if they have any). The key idea here is family, highlighting how the O5 and Professor X are the closest with each other, as well as how Storm, Nightcrawler, and Wolverine, despite being newer, have come to feel like family as well. Those 3's stories are highlighted the most, though Scott's concern about being the next leader, along with his relationship with Alex and Jean's And to note: since the actors for the O5 are different ages, they couldn't have formed a team with professor X when they were teens; they were simply all found by him at the same time, roughly a few years ago, and have thus have mostly been training and never had the opportunity to be into the fray. This contrasts with some of the other mutants, who have had to develop their powers on their own.
2. The Brotherhood of Mutants here is led by Magneto (who Rogue grows attached to as a father figure given her own relationship with her dad; doing a romantic storyline feels to weird to do in live-action with Anna and Ian's age gaps; she later creates a father-like bond with Logan when she joins the X-Men), and the main roster includes Polaris, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Mystique, Sabertooth, Toad, Pyro, Destiny, and Mastermind. Rogue is easily taken in by Magneto's ideals and goals, though she is eventually disillusioned by the less noble mutants who simply want to dominate and destroy, as well as how Magneto's trauma has had a generational effect on his children, particularly Pietro, who feel used and abused by him (counting Polaris as one of his kids even if it wasn't confirmed in 2000). The idea of family is a central theme here as well, only the Brotherhood represents a fractured and toxic family, making Rogue realizes that Destiny and Mystique don't aren't as caring as she had hoped they were.
3. God Loves, Man Kills is the storyline here. If you recall, that was pretty much the inspo for X2, but I feel like it's good to hit the ground running with an adapted arc here. However, they don't change Stryker to a military scientist; the complexities of religion and ideology are explored here, and is particularly poignant for Magneto as a Jewish man and Nightcrawler as a devout Catholic. It'd also be a nice parallel to have the realization that Mystique is Nightcrawler's biological mother, and how he handles this is eye-opening for Rogue, since her time with the Brotherhood has mainly been about anger and pain fueling them, while Kurt is guarded by forgiveness and love. As usual, it's a triad of perspectives: the tolerant and peaceful approach of the X-Men, the defensive and superior attitude of the Brotherhood, and the fear and hateful attitude of the humans (at least the antagonists, anyway).
Lemme know what you think! I know it's not much, but I tried to be concise. I think the next film would focus on Mr. Sinister (NGL, as a film, I'd skip over the "Inferno" saga and probably give Scott and Madelyne's relationship to Jean and Scott since their story is too early to deal with that--plus I wanna put Emma in the mix later, and that would feel redundant if I included Madelyne), setting up an emotional break for Jean that makes her the Phoenix, removing the Phoenix Force concept, and eventually doing a storyline that combines elements of "Gifted" and "Lifedeath"--though that could change based on how I feel.

sometimes I see you on my dash and I'm like "wow these posts are pretty good but I dont remember why I followed this person" and then I load up my dwarf fort with my beloved hippogryphs
YEAAAAH im glad you like them! the hippogriffs and griffons are two of my absolute favorite creatures, so im very biased to them :) (also glad that you can tolerate my other post lol)
i suppose on that topic, it gives me a good excuse to show off the last 6 beast/giant variants going into the mods since i already finished all their sprites.
first up is the stymphalian bird! it's a small bird with feathers composed of bronze. they're docile by nature but are capable of shooting out their metal feathers to attack their predators
...on the other hand there's the giant variant, which is vicious by extension of living in savage lands
speaking of giant variants, there's 5 other ones being added
(griffon, fae dragon, bicorn, warg (it's default sprite was changed and the old sprite repurposed), and chimera)
the other brand new creatures are:
owl bear, a large carnivore with claws capable of slashing through metal. inspired by the cool looking owl bears from baldur's gate 3 that i saw when a friend was streaming the game. can be war trained if tamed
basilisk and mandrake
the basilisk are aggressive carnivores which possess a gaze that can turn their prey to stone, similar to the gorgons. unlike the gorgon's stare though, supposing their victim doesn't die while in statue form, they will return to normal after an in game week (they dont require food/water/breathing while afflicted)
Mandrake are small plant creatures who live rarely in underground lakes, where they 'breed' by planting their seeds in the ground. upon death they drop their seeds which can be planted to make very potent ale. the ale has many beneficial effects, such as helping infection and stress relief, but also has a grocery list of rare (2-10% odds) of triggering multiple ill side effects, such as nausea and sending a person into a fit of rage. made entirely just to make taverns all the more FUN
something i didn't plan to add, but added based on request: a tressym! flying cats from forgotten realms (and also baldur's gate) that i thought looked cool and had interesting enough lore to make a good addition. I only actually finished their sprites earlier tonight, and their raws aren't made yet.
going off what i read about them, they were going to be the same size as a cat, capable of being 4 different colors/coat patters, and immune to poison. it also mentioned them being able to see invisible creatures, so i'd like to play around with them having extra vision/high stats to be able to detect ambushers, tho i'd need to test to make sure they dont completely trivialize it. Was planning to make them like the griffons and wargs, where they have the [PET] token, but not [COMMON_DOMESTIC], so there's a chance for dwarves and humans to tame them in world gen, but they would hopefully be very rare due to their spawn biome (taiga?) and frequency (was thinking around 7%)
last but not least, another mega beast, this time the Undead Dragon! an undead mega beast that's intended to be a similar difficulty to the bronze colossus. it lacks blood, and damaging organs or connections doesn't bother it. It is capable of raising corpses once a day, and breathing a cool breath that makes a target drowsy and nauseous. while it can of course be killed in the usual dwarven solutions (magma, crushing) it can also be killed instantly by being speared in the skull by a spear, or decapitated. it is not capable of flight due to it's body being too rotted.
#answered#modding#dwarf fortress#sorry if the response was much longer than you anticipated! but i realized i haven't shown stuff off in awhile#i did do a bit of balance testing with a fort last month but i haven't been playing df as much lately#i was pretty busy working on the last gay fates update but now that that's done-#the mythical beast update will hopefully be out around next month? idk i like testing pretty extensively#on one hand im not proud of the mandrake sprite on the other hand it's very silly and it charms me#i do think i kinda cooked on the giant sprites tho. im very proud of how they all turned out!#the giant griffon especially bc the regular griffon sprite was the very first one i did#and i still feel i didn't quite capture what i wanted to with it. though i have come to like the normal griffon sprite now

For the Wings of Fire version of the Dark AU, dragon hybrids are mutants. Some can hide as one tribe, while others who are more obviously hybrids can't. Odd powers show up amongst hybrids, especially when there's moons or magic involved. I'm making it so dragons age a bit slower than canon, so instead of being like a three year old at one year of age, it would be mentally two but being a one year old. So, being one=2 year old by human standard. A dragon year is about two human years long, and the twelve months are... hectic, to say the least...
The adults are all hybrids, and so are the kids. Here's a list of who is what kind of hybrid:
Charles Xavier: NightWing/SeaWing, appears more as a NightWing, but with some webbing and longer tail; is a gray-green color, with scattered silver star scales and silvery glow scales; uses a wheelchair for his back talons; is named Charitable
Storm: IceWing/SandWing, appears more as an IceWing, and has darker scales, but lighter spines; has frostbreath, radiates warmth or cold, and wears a small circlet/tiara; is named Snowstorm
Wolverine: HiveWing/NightWing, half-brother to Sabretoorh, appears as a NightWing with four insect-like wings, has hidden wrist stingers he uses to intimate enemies; is mostly blue-black, with silver star scales and smatterings of warm orange and yellow across his tail and under his wings; is named Warrior
Beast: MudWing/SilkWing, is an obvious hybrid, has large talons and frame, four large wings, and blue, brown, and gray scales; can spin silk, is immune to burns, and loves science; is a doctor and teacher; is named Beige
Magneto: SkyWing/IceWing hybrid, appears as a dark blood red SkyWing, but has sharp blue-gray eyes and frostbreath; has silvery spines, longer, sharper spines, and has blue blood, almost purple; wears a metal helmet/circlet; is named Magma
Mystique: RainWing/SandWing hybrid, appears usually as a RainWing in disguise, but her base form is a bright blue RainWing with a tail barb and long scarlet sail, with dapples of gold and indigo on her scales; she's cunning, conniving, and cynical; is named Mystic
Sabretooth: HiveWing/IceWing hybrid, appears as a pale yellow IceWing with four long, thin insectoid wings, has serrated claws and claw stingers; has frostbreath as well; is large, grouchy, and battle-ready; is named Sable
The teens (the ones who are alive, and possibly adults, or at least older):
Scott: SkyWing/SeaWing hybrid, has bright red scales, appears as a SkyWing, but has glow scales that can glow a bright, blinding red; has fire; is kinda long and tall and thin; name Cyclone
Jean: SkyWing/NightWing hybrid, has darker green scales, appears as a NightWing, has hidden orange and green star scales; can read minds and has large wings; is nice; is named Jewel-scales
Rogue: NightWing/IceWing hybrid, is a a pale gray-green, appears mostly as an IceWing; can read minds if touching someone, and can breathe frostbreath and fire; is cold to the touch; is named Reindeer
Evan: IceWing/SandWing hybrid, is a pale tan and yellow, appears as an IceWing; has sharp spines all over his neck and back, has spines on his tail; can breathe fire; radiates warmth; is named Eider
Lance: SandWing/MudWing hybrid, is a warm umber color, has darker spines and part of a sail on his tail; doesn't have a barb; can breathe fire; has rock-hard scales; is a bit reedy for an average MudWing; is named Loon
Todd: SeaWing/MudWing; is a semi-obvious hybrid, being mistaken for either a yellow-green shrimpy MudWing, or a green-yellow shrimpy SeaWing; can hold his breath for an hour and breathe underwater; has a few glow scales; is named Toad
Fred: NightWing/MudWing; is a large, dark dusky brownish-black, appears as a MudWing; has string talons, has strong wings, is immune to burns or most cuts; is named Bullfrog
Wanda: SkyWing/IceWing hybrid, is a vibrant scarlet red, appears as a SkyWing; has animus magic; is tough and jaded; wears black jewelry a lot; is a twin; is named Scarlet
Colossus: IceWing/LeafWing hybrid, is a shiny pale green with silver dappled scales, appears as an IceWing; is large, strong, has sharp talons; is hard to move or hurt; is sweet; is named Coldfront
Pyro: SkyWing/SilkWing hybrid, is sunset orange and fire red, appears as a SilkWing; has flamesilk, can breathe fire, has four large wings; likes to start fires; eats his food burnt; is named Polyphemus
Gambit: SeaWing/SandWing hybrid, has warm scalea; is a brown-yellow leather color, with some pink and green webbing and scales; is suave and charming; is a trickster; is named Remora
Reader and Friends (the teens who reincarnated):
Pietro: SkyWing/IceWing hybrid, has chilly blue-ice white scales, appears as an IceWing, but has larger than normal wings; is a very fast flier; has cold scales; used to be a twin in his past life; is sarcastic; is named Ptarmigan
Kitty: SilkWing/RainWing hybrid, can change colors and blend in, almost like she is invisible, appears as a SilkWing; has a ruff behind her ears, has longer fangs, and a prehensile tail; is usually a soft pink, likac purple, and hazel brown; is bubbly; is named Koa
Reader: hybrid type unknown... is caring and adventurous; has strange dreams; is named ...?
