Callum & Viren: Are they similar? Is Callum on the same path as Viren? - Star Wars Analogies
I know there have been posts made before in the Dragon Prince fandom comparing characters from tdp to Star Wars characters, esp Callum to Anakin/Vader as someone who will eventually get corrupted/turn to the dark side and become a potential apprentice to Aaravos, as well as Rayllum to Anidala in terms of Callum being seen as being bound to doom the world for Rayla.
I wanted to share a different perspective of mine as to which characters/relationship dynamics (outside of romantic ones included) from tdp I believe compare the most to which Star Wars characters as a massive fan of both sagas myself.
The number one character from Star Wars that I see Callum being most similar to is Luke Skywalker, whereas a character I think is the best comparison to Anakin/Vader, especially after watching Season 6 of the Dragon Prince, would be none other than Viren himself. While I do know for a fact that the tdp characters aren’t carbon copies of the SW characters I’m comparing them to, I still think that their overall arcs are quite matching.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Starting with Callum and Luke, on the surface, both are the hero who prevails and saves everyone & the whole world/galaxy from doom, but on a deeper level, they both struggle with a dark side inside of them & temptations to give in to it. And before I continue, I wanted to emphasize that I DO NOT see Callum as someone who’s morally dubious, as there are several instances in canon which prove otherwise, specifically his immense guilt over using dark magic and his fear of becoming corrupted and consumed by darkness in S6 (his nightmare at the beginning of episode 3 perfectly illustrates this), the latter of which is a challenge we also see Luke dealing with in The Empire Strikes Back.
youtube
Throughout the Original trilogy, mainly in ESB & Return of the Jedi, we see so many “hints” and “indicators” that Luke might turn to the dark side, who unlike Callum, actually shares many personality traits with his father such as his impatience and recklessness. We see Yoda fear that he might follow in his father’s footsteps before reluctantly training him, we see Vader and eventually Palpatine try to lure Luke to the dark side, even pointing out that they could sense his anger which is a major precursor for that. But in the end, despite all of those temptations, despite all of his anger and eventual fear & rage for his sister’s safety, he ultimately resisted and refused to join the sith.
Along with seeing many protagonists who may be put in similar situations or even in some cases share some similarities with the main/major antagonist, such as Harry and Voldemort being another example of this, this is why I am a firm believer that Callum will be tested in Season 7, he may be faced with temptations to use dark magic again perhaps as a quick means to defeat Aaravos or potentially save Rayla if it gets to that, or even Aaravos trying to bribe him to join him, but in the end he will ultimately resist, since dark magic, as stated several times before, is merely a shortcut that leads to much bigger long term harm (which I don’t think there would be enough time to even flesh this out in the final season of the Mystery of Aaravos arc). As we’ve seen Callum reject succumbing to his dark side after he used dark magic for the first time, and seeing him willingly do the purification ritual to rid himself of his darkness/corruption in his soul, I do believe that Callum has the power to reject dark magic once and for all and do the right thing (this does not necessarily mean he would sacrifice Rayla if the plot does get to that, but I do think he would find a third option aside from dark magic to save her, like he did back in S3 when he cast the mage wing spell to save her). After all, a major theme in the Dragon Prince is breaking cycles and not repeating previous mistakes, so what would be the point in having those themes or specifically Harrow’s letter in the first place, or better yet have the whole “destiny’s a book you write yourself” line be brought up multiple times if Callum’s just fated keep repeating past mistakes over and over again?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now onto my next analogy: Viren & Anakin/Vader, the characters who I genuinely saw as those whose corruption & downfalls may have started out of desperation to save a loved one from dying, but ultimately grew into greed and hunger for power.
I could go on about the complexities of Anakin’s character, specifically the ones that got fleshed out even more in the Clone Wars and how there are multiple factors that led to his turn to the dark side, but that’s not the whole point of this post. I know that there are some differing factors between both Viren and Anakin in terms of their dark sides/stories, but ultimately the last straw that led to their corruption was the fact that they were both terrified of losing an important loved one and both were completely unwilling to let that happen, whatever the price they had to pay. We also see them seek some sort of counsel/beg for help, like when Anakin vaguely told Yoda about his visions and fears, and Viren telling Kpp’Ar about Soren’s condition and needing the staff, ultimately both Anakin and Viren were told that there wasn’t really anything that could be done and they both needed to learn to let go. However neither of them were having that, so we somewhat see them both resort to another counsel, both very different but leading to same outcome. Anakin starts to open up more to Palpatine, who in turn manipulates him and convinces him that he has his “solution.” While Viren on the other hand, may have offered advice to Harrow to “do what he must” over his own dilemma, he in turn used that same advice but in a more twisted, corrupted manner. So then, both Anakin and Viren resort to darker approaches to solve their own problems and completely give in to their own darknesses.
I won’t go into deep detail about what they each did, since you can just rewatch these scenes in Revenge of the Sith and Episode 6 of TDP for that, but now I wanted to talk about how despite having the desire to save their loved ones, they ultimately caused massive harm to them. Anakin desperately did whatever he could to save Padme, but in the end, when he thought she betrayed him, he force-choked her then afterwards, she was shattered and heartbroken over his downfall that it led to her death, the very thing that Anakin tried so hard to prevent. While Viren on the other hand may have succeeded in healing and saving Soren, he grew to treat him coldly and abusively to the point where he completely damaged & even destroyed his relationship with his very son that he corrupted himself completely to save in the first place.
Even though I primarily focused on the similarities between Viren saving Soren & Anakin trying to save Padme, I also wanted to point out how similar the impacts were on Lissa and Padme as well, namely how they were both horrified when they saw what became of their husbands.
Sadly both of them ended up getting assaulted by their corrupted husbands, which then led up to the destruction of their families. And ultimately both Viren and Anakin continued on their dark paths and grew more ruthless, evil, and corrupted until they finally reached their eventual redemptions (I know not everyone thinks that Viren got redeemed but I do believe that his redemption arc was him accepting that he’s done far too much and accepting the consequences for his actions).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So far these are the thoughts that I have on which Dragon Prince characters/relationships I think compare best to which Star Wars ones. And I know that Claudia would also be a good comparison to Anakin since she too struggles a lot with loss and refuses to let go, but at the same time, I see her still being in Anakin’s early villain phase during Revenge of the Sith, not yet having reached the Vader levels that we see during the Original Trilogy era. The way I see Vader & Viren relationships with Luke and Callum’s characters, it’s that the former two represent what the latter two fear of becoming if they do not overcome their dark sides.
But to answer my questions in the header, I do not think that Callum is bound to be on the same path as Viren or that he will let himself be consumed by darkness. Season 6 dealt with his overall guilt over using dark magic, his fear of being consumed by it/being used as by Aaravos, and ultimately his choice to purify himself of his darkness and understanding the consequences of doing dark magic again beforehand. Just as many protagonists get put through the wringer in their final battles, but ultimately persevere and do the right thing, I do believe that Callum will win and not fall victim to his temptations once again.
That’s all I have folks! Thanks for reading this far if you have! And an important friendly reminder (as mentioned already in my bio) if you have differing opinions and would like to disagree and discuss, please be sure to do so respectfully. Otherwise scroll by or I’ll be more than glad to press that block button! 😊🙌🏽
And over the water came the war chants from the enemy.
Sola drew her sword.
The first boats reached the shore and troops clad in black began to leap from the gunwales to the water, their swords clanging up and down the coastline in a strange cacophony.
“Archers!” Sola yelled, and all of them turned as one to dip their first arrows into the coal buckets behind them.
The first Imperial soldiers had formed a line and were beginning their run up the beach. This was the moment they must all hold their nerves as the distance between them was perhaps a hundred yards. The oil line had been poured twenty yards from the surf, taking into account the tides.
“HOLD!” Sola called. They must be certain and get as many of the enemy as possible. The second line was following the first…
Five yards.
Two.
“FIRE!” she screamed, and brought her sword down.
✩ WEEKLY FIC ROUND-UP ✩
All the fics I’ve read and really enjoyed in the past week-ish. Reminder: This list features any and all ratings and themes. Please look at tags and warnings on ao3 before reading.
DC
fill in the blanks by mindshelter
"You?” Tim blurts. Holy shit. “You’re Kon?”
A nod. “Are you in any pain?” he asks again.
Kon’s skin is sun-kissed, cheekbones dusted with a fine smattering of freckles; he is, without exaggeration, the prettiest person Tim has ever seen. “No, I’m—great,” he says, fidgeting. “Do you, uh, come here often?”
Kon raises a brow. “To the medbay?” he intones. “Definitely more often than I’d prefer."
Fault Line by sElkieNight60 (+ podfic)
Part 1 of Tectonics
"You’re invulnerable…” he whispers, but it’s clear that fact falters in his mind.
Confusion writes its way into the lines on Conner’s face and Clark takes a step back as though physically pushed.
“You’re not invulnerable.”
It is a statement, dull like stone.
“N-no, sir.”
OR: Conner's not as invincible as Clark thought. Suddenly, he's a lot more human.
Danny Phantom x DC
The Business of Family by Spaced_Ace
Jazz remembered the way their parents loomed in the living room as they’d laid out that verdict. Ever-present weapons gleaming, standing in such a way that they blocked access to both the front and back entrances. Their eyes had been what struck her the most of that horrible tableau. What made her stomach fill with jagged stones and drenched her back in a frigid sweat. The way they looked at her little brother, their gazes cold and hollow and -
Hungry.
(Things are not well in Amity Park.
With the GIW getting more and more aggressive and their parents becoming ever more suspicious of Danny each day that passes, Jazz knows that they're running out of time. It's not safe, and their options are painfully limited. Out of sheer dumb luck or a little intervention from Clockwork, she manages to discover a distant relative that just might be their salvation.
If asked Oswald Cobblepot would say that it's just good business. Adopting a few kids had done wonders for Bruce Wayne's reputation, why not his? It's not like he can't afford to put them somewhere out of the way if they get to be a problem. It's just business. Nothing more.
The Witcher
Words of Love by ForestWren
"I should warn you,” Jaskier said between kisses in the soft darkness of the shed, “That I know some… very interesting people. You may want to avoid meeting them.”
Five times Radovid meets Jaskier's friends and family, plus one time they are alone.
The Andersmance as a narrative of hope
One thing I've noticed while in the Dragon Age fandom is the prevalent interpretation of the Anders romance as a tragedy, or a romance that's inherently tragic. Anders acts behind Hawke's back, destroys the Kirkwall Chantry no matter what choices the player makes, the player sees this as a huge betrayal, and — despite having romanced Anders, and/or being mage-sympathetic — they decide to execute or banish Anders as punishment for his 'crime'. Tears are shed; it's all dramatic and tragic and angsty.
While I sometimes appreciate tragedies, I would like to posit a different perspective: The romance with Anders is a story of hope; a story of standing up to insurmountable odds and overcoming them. The romance with Anders can be approached as one with a happier ending, where Hawke and Anders are the heroes.
Before I elaborate, a disclaimer: These are my own opinions. I understand some players prefer the Andersmance as a tragic romance, and to each player their own. I am not here to dictate the choices you should make in-game or how you approach your playthroughs, merely to present a different perspective to one I've seen very often.
Also, this post is critical of the rivalmance with Anders — more on that later.
The Andersmance as a narrative of hope relies on two perspectives:
Firstly, the Chantry is an authoritarian institution who are the antagonistic force that the heroes need to oppose and take down. There is plenty of meta that explores and supports this.
Secondly, Anders is a heroic character:
He is a healer who set up a clinic providing free healthcare for the marginalized and downtrodden people of Kirkwall who otherwise have gone overlooked by their own Chantry.
He let a Spirit of Justice into his body, simply to help Justice continue to exist in the physical world when he would have otherwise disappeared into the Fade.
He regularly risks his safety and security by helping mages escape abuse in the Gallows and have a chance at freedom via the Mage Underground.
These are all acts of someone who is kind and compassionate, and, yes, heroic.
He is not a villain who needs to be stopped. He is the hero of the story who needs help and support as he challenges systematic oppression. He's Katniss Everdeen standing up to the Capitol; he's Luke Skywalker opposing the Galactic Empire.
Hawke is that supportive pillar, that safe harbor, that source of unconditional love for Anders in his times of struggle. "The one bright light in Kirkwall" who stands by Anders' side as they face insurmountable odds together.
In World States where Leliana becomes Divine Victoria, this means Hawke and Anders' struggles were not in vain. Through their actions, they sparked a series of events that culminated in the abolition of the Circles.
Anders' prophetic speech about how, "Ten years, a hundred years from now, someone like me will love someone like you, and there will be no Templars to tear them apart" carries so much more weight, because loving Hawke gave him hope for a better future that Anders actually gets to witness in his lifetime.
Do you know how powerful such a love story is?
Their love literally changed the world for the better.
They loved each other, that love gave them courage, and now future generations of mages are free to find a love as strong and precious as the one Hawke and Anders share.
Of course, the condition of this is that Hawke loves and supports Anders wholeheartedly, meaning that this obviously takes the Friendship route for the romance. The rivalmance where Hawke downplays Anders' struggles, breaks Anders' spirit, undermines Anders' confidence, and tries to convince Anders that his cause is needless has no part in this narrative of hope; in fact, I would go so far to say that Hawke is the villain in that version of the story.
Personally, stories of hope have always strongly resonated with me. I gravitate towards stories where our protagonists are presented with challenging obstacles (whether they be internal, external, or both), and things may seem bleak at first, but they bravely carry on, and by the end of the story the characters have made themselves better people, and/or made the world a better place.
Anders and Hawke had many chances to turn away and ignore the plight of mages and just get their own happy ending, but they didn't — they carried on, because they were the heroes, and they knew all mages deserved to be free as they were.
Power Types in Fandoms
I was up in the middle of the night arguing with my ceiling about fictional characters, Death Battle style, and decided to make a ❗rudimentary❗ list, from weakest to strongest Power Types. Because it's a gradient, each progressively higher power type can (and often does) contain the abilities of lower types.
⚔🤖💉🤺🤰🧜♂️🔮👽
⚔ Standard Fighters
OP warriors with maxed out skills, but main character plot armor saves them from outrageous situations
Conan the Barbarian, Tuxedo Mask (Sailor Moon), Link (Zelda), Yujiro Hanma (Baki), Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Robin Hood, Odysseus (Greek mythology), Xena Warrior Princess, etc
🤖 Tech/Mech Warriors
Fight with technology; but caught slipping butt naked with ZERO gear (wifi signal, power generator, fancy gadgets/weapons, power suits, etc) and they don't stand a chance without hax/plot armor
Low Level tech (borderline realistic/futuristic gear)
Ratchet & Clank, Doom Guy (Doom), Master Chief (Halo), Batman, Power Rangers, etc
High Level tech (science & magic blur)
Gundam, Xenosaga, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Iron Man, Guts (Berserk), Sailor Moon, Perseus (Greek mythology), etc
💉 Roid Rage
Ate/drank something, or got bit/injected/dunked/exposed to something out in nature or in a lab--scientific, biological, or magical-- that permanently altered their bodies, genes, & abilities. Often "immortal/indestructible," depending on the universe.
Scientific (Lab Accidents/Hijinks/Procedures)
Frankenstein*, The Powerpuff Girls, S.H.I.E.L.D. (Black Widow, Hawkeye, etc), Captain America, The Hulk, The Flash, Harley Quinn (& The Joker, kinda), Dr Manhattan (Watchmen), Dr Robotnik (Sonic), TMNT, etc
🤺 Androids/Cyborgs
Deliberately created part man, part tech/mech. Can be/look more or less "human," or barely at all. (More or less "immortal/indestructible," depending.). "Science" & magic blur.
Androids (Dragonball), Wolverine, Dororo, Sekiro, Robocop, Bionic Woman, The Terminator, Frankenstein*, Homunculus (FMA), The Borg (Star Trek), Darth Vader, etc
🤰Mutations
Born to regular human parents, but with unexpected supernatural abilities and/or appearance. These abilities are random AF and their power can fluctuate wildly depending on the character/universe.
Mutants (X-Men), Killer Croc (Batman), Namor (Black Panther), Aquaman*, etc
🧜♂️ Hybrids
Born to at least one (1) human parent, but with unexpected supernatural abilities and/or appearance. The non-human parent can make their abilities fluctuate wildly, depending on the character/universe.
WIP Title Game! oh good lord
rules: in a new post, post the names of all the files in your wip folder regardless of how nondescriptive or ridiculous. let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet and tell us about it!
thanks @allyunabridged for the tag! Lmao I stared down the barrel of not one, but two google drives to gather these and all I can say is
😬
IN AN ORDER ONLY THE GODS UNDERSTAND:
The Twilit Gate (BG3, when in want of more fey bullshit in your BG3, do it yourself!!! TavxAstarionxGalexliterally everyone i'm gay alright???)
Island (The Guest/손 AU, horror and survivalism; Hwa Pyung, Choi Yoon, and Gil Young follow Park Hong Joo's and Park Il Do's machinations out to open sea, to an island with long forgotten history where the real struggle for survival begins.)
But For Grace (SW:Preq's, modern-character in GFFA aka "what to do when you accidentally change things and the Chosen One dies?", started as a silly question but now I'm committed; Qui-Gon Jinn lives; what would happen in a galaxy without Anakin Skywalker?)
The Mage's War (DA2 + DA:I, what if Bethany Hawke was the Herald, Modern/Avvar OC, playing Fade chicken with the Dread Wolf nbd, put on my tinfoil hat for this one re: the Fade, the Abyss/Void, Forgotten Ones, etc.)
In God's Eye (Vampyr, human!Jonathan, ekon!McCullum, Mary lives, I'm a hobby WWI & Spanish Flu researcher so hold your britches I have FEELINGS)
For Want Of Two (Vampyr, wanted more mythological beings & nemrod lore so I'll do it myself gdi, put-that-thing-back-where-you-found-it-or-so-help-me-god.gif ; JxMcCxOC)
Lights All Hung On Nothing (Star Wars Preq's to Clone Wars era, modern-character-in-SW with a big twist, Force + time fuckery, Ani + Obi focus, the butterfly effect changes everything)
The 72nd Cycle (SW: Mandalorian, AU - Grogu is not the only Force sensitive prisoner Gideon had captured. Without room in his ship for multiple students, Luke tags along, not expecting the sad Mando's ride Boba Fett (w h a t) to show up and offer the poor guy use of his bacta tank; well, soon-to-be-his. He just has to kill its current owner, Bib Fortuna, first. You know. On Tatooine(WHAT!!). Meanwhile, on Tattooine: Cobb Vanth gets the nagging feeling his life is about to become much more stressful.)
A Heavy Thing (KOTOR, amnesiac Revan works a shitty food service job on Taris and definitely isn't a Jedi/Sith/Soldier, I mean, clearly. Slice of life becomes tragedy becomes adventure becomes mystery becomes ??? RevanxCanderousxCarth DON'T LOOK AT ME)
Life, Happening (The Shining/Doctor Sleep introspective piece on Danny Torrance, life & death, what it means to be gone, and not gone.)
Led To Water (Mandalorian, Din takes off the armor having broken his Creed and, unsure what to do next, returns to Kuiil's homestead to brood and sweat manfully through his existential crisis; his friends help him through it.)
Mando'ad'ika (Mandalorian/Original SW movies, The Mandalorian is taken into custody and now Leia has to deal with a sweet but stressed frog lady, a green gremlin with too much Force power, and this intimidating tin can who won't budge. Since Han laughed at her, she decides to make it his problem, too.)
Time Travel, & Other Ways To Die (Mandalorian/SW:Bounty Hunter video game, Din & Jango centric, whilst trying to get to Grogu on his magical big rock, Din & Grogu end up chucked through time onto an outlaw space station. Jango Fett's no good very bad day begins. Coincidentally, it coincides with Din Djarin's SUPER no good very bad day. They most assuredly do not bond over this.)
I am, or was. (Dragon Age: Inquisition, a spirit takes an interest in Solas after he helps it in the Fallow Mire and begins following him around like a lost puppy. Which would be cute, if it weren't possessing more and more alarming vessels to do so. The Andrastians are starting to get a bit twitchy.)
Rookie, Shiny, Soldier, Spy (Mandalorian/Clone Wars, Din Djarin accidental time travel into the Clone Wars AU. Caught without his 'gam on a battle field and forced once again to wear trooper armor, he is Not Impressed--and why do all these guys look like Boba?)
This Prodigal Son (Hades/Dragon Age: Inq, Zagreus goes through the wrong Chaos portal. Magister Alexius finds a powerful spirit in the Fade and, as is his way, decides fuck it, we ball. Also his way, it doesn't go very well for him.)
Send me a title via ask and I'll post my favorite bit I've currently written!
Lmao this was wild to throw together given how many WIPs of age past are staring me down; these are just all the recents. Go ahead and chuck some WIPs out there if you're interested @singoallala @narwhalninja @mauverawrites @in-a-trans-like-state @terresdebrume and @jackironsides ! And if you don't/aren't currently writing, everyone loves to see the pet tax paid C:
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
from the fanfic writer director's cut asks—feel free to send one in or reblog so I can ask you!
thank you so much, anon!! 💖
⭐the opening lines of i fear no fate—"Laat Dovahkiin wears flowers in her hair. This is the thing that throws Miraak, above all."—were the first lines I ever wrote for this story. I had this very clear image of how Apocrypha might as well be a realm of the dead, an Underworld populated with those who've long since forgotten their mortal lives, and then Miraak is absolutely taken aback by the sudden appearance of Elentari who, by contrast, is riotously, colourfully alive.
⭐ speaking of Elentari and her flowers... this is where my long-lasting love of all things Persephone jumps out. in myth, Persephone has a dual nature as both goddess of spring and Queen of the Underworld so feared and so respected that in many texts, she's referred to only by epithet. I borrowed a little from that with Ellie, who speaks softly and gently, wears flowers in her hair, and excels at Restoration magic—but as her mastery in Destruction will tell you, she's capable of being downright devastating when she wants to be, too.
(it's also not all that often she's called by name, in-universe. it is known around Skyrim, but as Miraak notices, it isn't included in any of the books written about her. those familiar with her will call her "Elentari", or "Ellie" if they're Lucien, but most address her as "Dragonborn", "Dragonslayer", "Flameheart", "Arch-Mage", or "Ysmir".)
⭐but that's not to say that the flowers don't have a lot of symbolism in-universe, too! I like to imagine that Ellie would have started wearing them a while after her resurrection, after she emerged from a months-long haze of grief: a symbol of her new life.
her choice to wear blue mountain flowers in her hair was also very pointed, I think. I've long since envisioned her going to Sovngarde wearing those same flowers, so I like to think that whatever meaning they actually have, she was using them to say something like, "hey, Miraak, whoever you are, I beat the World-Eater, and I'll beat you, too."
(cue Luke Skywalker voice saying, "This is not going to go the way you think...")
⭐ I'm a big fan of sprinkling references to fairy tales and mythology about (in case the entire paragraph I just spent rambling about Persephone didn't already tip you off...), and I intended a certain part of the fourth chapter to be something of a callback to Orpheus and Eurydice. my idea this time was, “what if Orpheus didn’t fail? what if the answer is to walk through the dark, clutching your beloved’s hand, and turn to them and see all that they are and only that way will you be able to bring them back?”
⭐ here's an eyebrow-raising one for you, or for me, at least: in the third chapter, Ellie finds herself dreaming of Labyrinthian, then Bromjunaar, which was ruled by Morokei at the time. since by intervening there, she's rewriting time so that whatever she did was always going to happen, I wonder if Morokei ever felt anything of her while he was alive? magic leaves an echo, after all.
I like to think some part of him—whatever remained behind in his lich—recognised something in the Ellie who came to Labyrinthian shortly before becoming to Arch-Mage, even though the events of i fear no fate hadn't yet started. that's why he defaulted to Dovahzul, expecting an answer, only to switch to Tamrielic when he received no response.
one thing's for sure, she'll soon be very glad she re-killed him...
Le Bien et le Mal dans la science-fiction, étude de cas
Star Wars
« L'univers de Star Wars se déroule dans une galaxie qui est le théâtre d'affrontements entre les Chevaliers Jedi et les Seigneurs noirs des Sith, personnes sensibles à la Force, un champ énergétique mystérieux leur procurant des pouvoirs psychiques. Les Jedi maîtrisent le Côté lumineux de la Force, pouvoir bénéfique et défensif, pour maintenir la paix dans la galaxie. Les Sith utilisent le Côté obscur, pouvoir nuisible et destructeur, pour leurs usages personnels et pour dominer la galaxie.
Pour ramener la paix, une République galactique a été fondée avec pour capitale la planète Coruscant. Mais, tout au long de son existence, elle est secouée par des sécessions et des guerres, ainsi que par la corruption au sein du Sénat. Pour y mettre fin, la République est remplacée en 19 av. BY par un Empire galactique autoritaire et discriminatoire. Cette nouvelle entité est dirigée par le Sith Palpatine, son apprenti Dark Vador et son chef d'état-major Tarkin.
Cependant, après plusieurs années, la brutalité du régime provoque l'apparition d'une opposition armée : l'Alliance rebelle. Le premier coup d'éclat de cette dernière se déroule quelque temps avant BYNote 3, lorsque des espions rebelles parviennent à mettre la main sur les plans de la station spatiale Étoile noire, une arme absolue que Tarkin construit en secret depuis l’avènement de l’Empire. La princesse Leia, l'une des responsables de l'Alliance, est alors chargée de rapporter en lieu sûr les plans dérobés. [...]
La prophétie de l'Élu était une ancienne légende Jedi récurrente, qui prédisait l'arrivée d'un puissant Jedi censé ramener l'équilibre dans la Force. Officiellement, cet Élu fut Anakin Skywalker. Cependant, un autre Élu fut également abordé, Meetra Surik, une Jedi ayant combattu au côté des Revanchistes lors des Guerres Mandaloriennes, et qui fut par la suite exilée de l'Ordre Jedi. [...] La particularité de l'Élu était qu'il provoquait plus ou moins volontairement la destruction de l'Ordre Jedi comme Sith pour permettre la réorganisation des utilisateurs de la Force sur de nouvelles bases. Néanmoins, l'Exilée puis Luke Skywalker, fils d'Anakin, ne tentèrent pas de reconstruire un nouvel Ordre d'utilisateurs de la Force, mais se contentèrent simplement de ressusciter l'Ordre Jedi, en amendant quelque peu sa doctrine, mais sans renoncer réellement à son affiliation au Côté Lumineux de la Force. »
Harry Potter
« Harry Potter est considéré comme « le survivant » depuis que ses parents Lily Evans et James Potter ont été assassinés. Le puissant mage noir Lord Voldemort les a tués dix ans plus tôt alors que Harry, qui n'était alors qu'un bébé, est parvenu à échapper de manière très inattendue au sortilège de la mort. La tentative de meurtre était motivée par une prophétie annonçant à première vue que Harry anéantirait un jour les pouvoirs de Voldemort. Cependant, le sortilège lancé par Voldemort sur l'enfant se retourne inexplicablement contre son lanceur et le désintègre, laissant le garçon intact avec pour seule trace de cet événement une cicatrice en forme d’éclair sur le front. Le garçon devient par conséquent très célèbre parmi les sorciers, tandis qu'il demeure ordinaire chez les Moldus.
Au début du cinquième roman, Harry retrouve son parrain Sirius, Lupin, Hermione et la famille Weasley au 12 square Grimmaurd, qui devient le quartier général de l'ordre du Phénix, l'organisation fondée par Dumbledore au moment de la première ascension de Voldemort. Le ministère de la Magie de son côté, malgré les événements de l’an passé, refuse d'admettre le retour du mage noir. Harry, Ron et Hermione retournent à Poudlard, où un nouveau professeur de défense contre les forces du mal, Dolores Ombrage, engagée par le ministre de la Magie lui-même, ne tarde pas à instaurer des règles très strictes sur l'école, interdisant aux élèves de pratiquer la magie, de se rassembler en groupe ou de lire certains articles de presse défendant le point de vue de Harry Potter sur le retour de Voldemort. Hermione décide d'agir et de fonder une seconde organisation au sein-même de l'école, l'Armée de Dumbledore, pour contrer Ombrage et inciter les élèves volontaires à pratiquer la magie pour apprendre à se défendre face aux dangers extérieurs que les autorités souhaitent taire. À la fin de l'année, piégé par Voldemort, Harry se rend au ministère de la Magie où il pense que son parrain est détenu et torturé. Il est accompagné de Ron, Hermione, Ginny Weasley, Luna Lovegood et Neville Londubat. Severus Rogue prévient les autres membres de l’Ordre, qui se précipitent au secours de Harry et de ses amis aux prises avec les mangemorts. Sirius Black meurt durant la bataille, tué par sa propre cousine et bras droit de Voldemort. De retour à Poudlard, Harry apprend le contenu de la prophétie qui le concernait depuis sa naissance : il est la seule personne à avoir une chance de vaincre définitivement Voldemort. Après les événements du ministère dont il a été témoin, le ministre Cornelius Fudge admet enfin le retour de Voldemort et la deuxième guerre débute officiellement. »
Dune
« Le duc Leto Atréides, le chef de la Maison Atréides, règne sur son fief planétaire de Caladan, une planète constituée de jungles et de vastes océans dont il tire sa puissance. Sa concubine officielle, Dame Jessica, est une adepte du Bene Gesserit, une école exclusivement féminine qui poursuit de mystérieuses visées politiques et qui enseigne des capacités non moins étranges.
Par amour pour son concubin, Jessica donne à Leto un fils, Paul Atréides, désobéissant en cela aux directives de ses supérieures du Bene Gesserit dont le programme génétique prévoyait qu’elle engendre une fille. Les Bene Gesserit (surnommées les « Sorcières » par ceux qui les craignent) cherchent, avec ces accouplements contrôlés, à créer par sélection génétique un être mâle, le Kwisatz Haderach, qui pourra voir ce qu'elles ne peuvent voir.
C'est alors que l'empereur Shaddam IV, le chef de l’Imperium, ordonne au duc Leto d'occuper le fief d'Arrakis, lui confiant la gestion de la planète Dune et de son Épice jusqu'alors gérée par la Maison Harkonnen, l'ennemi héréditaire des Atréides. L'Empereur, avec cette décision, joue en fait un double jeu : il complote en secret avec les Harkonnen afin de détruire les Atréides dans le piège d'Arrakis, étant irrité par la popularité grandissante de son cousin Leto, le « duc rouge » auprès de l'assemblée des nobles des Grandes Maisons de l'Imperium, le Landsraad.
Leto, obligé d'obéir à l’empereur sous peine de devenir le chef d'une Maison renégate, quitte finalement Caladan et part s'installer avec sa famille et ses gens sur Arrakis. L’ensemble de la Maison Atréides fait alors le voyage dans l'un des immenses vaisseaux long-courriers de la Guilde spatiale. Après s'être installé sur Arrakis et avoir géré la planète pendant quelques mois, durant lesquels les forces Atréides contreront plusieurs pièges laissés par les Harkonnen (dont un qui visera le fils de Leto, Paul), le duc est finalement trahi par son médecin personnel de l'École Suk, le docteur Wellington Yueh. Celui-ci le livre inconscient aux Harkonnen, peu après que ceux-ci eurent envahi la planète par surprise, assistés en cela par les troupes d'élite de l'Empereur, les Sardaukar qui opèrent clandestinement déguisés en Harkonnen. L'armée des Atréides est décimée et Jessica et Paul sont capturés par les Harkonnen. [...]
Paul, dit Muad'Dib, la « souris du désert », devient peu à peu le Mahdi (guide) et le chef des Fremen dans leur guerre contre les Harkonnen sur Dune, car pour eux il est le messie tant attendu désigné par les prophéties, qui les emmènera vers le Jihad (la guerre sainte) et la liberté. »
En analysant ces trois œuvres majeures de science-fiction, on se rend compte de nombreux points communs : la critique d'un pouvoir dépassé, incompétent et corrompu, générateur de troubles et d'instabilité faisant le lit du Mal ; critique de l'incapacité du système à résister à la tentation du Mal pour se maintenir au pouvoir en faisant taire les critiques, dont l'issue fatale est la prise de pouvoir du Mal se présentant sous l'apparence de l'ordre et de la sécurité face au chaos ; et enfin la renaissance du Bien, issu de la Résistance et du soulèvement face au Mal, guidée par un héros charismatique, Élu prophétique appelé à restaurer la paix et la justice en faisant naître un ordre nouveau.
Ce n'est pas un hasard si ces trois œuvres sont largement inspirées par la seconde guerre mondiale, notamment par la Résistance et la lutte contre le nazisme.
La lutte du Bien contre le Mal reste un thème intemporel qui s'incarne aussi bien dans les plus grandes œuvres de fiction que dans la réalité, preuve qu'il est sans doute au fondement même de ce qui constitue l'Homme.
WIP Tag
Thanks for the tag @myst867! Writing has been a bit of a struggle for me these last few months because of stuff going on IRL. But I am trying to slowly plug away on a handful of my fics and get back into a groove. (I’ve got more than 5 WIPs, but I will list the ones that I am most interested in atm - not just my HP fics, I do hope that’s alright)
List the titles of your top five priorities for WIP updates (link your fics for new readers!)
An upcoming scene, event, or detail in each fic that you’re looking forward to writing
Bonus: make a poll for your followers to vote on which top 5 WIP they are most excited to see an update on!
Then tag 10 writer friends.
Titles
A Light in the Dark: A time travel Star Wars fic. After finding Luke on Ahch-To, the Force sends Rey some 30 years into the past to the time of the Galactic Empire. Here she works with the Rebellion and Darth Vader to bring Palpatine down once and for all, and finds out some things about herself along the way. Rey/Anakin Skywalker | Darth Vader pairing (Slow burn)
Don’t Wake Me Just Yet: A time travel HP fic. After Harry joins up with Voldemort following the death of Sirius, Hermione partners with the House of Black and travels back in time to July of 1976, to defeat Voldemort during the First Wizarding War and prevent the one of the darkest families in Wizarding Britain from dying out, in order to save her childhood friend and the wizarding world at large. Hermione/Sirius pairing.
Keep Me Where the Light Is: A time travel Grishaverse fic. At over three-hundred years old and knowing that she’s about to die, Alina prays to Saints she hasn’t believed in for centuries, begging for a chance to make things right. Alina Starkov/Aleksander Morozova | The Darkling pairing.
The Scarred Mage: A rewrite of the HP books, where Regulus Black takes Harry away from his abusive relatives just before the start of Harry’s first year, and teaches him about the Wizarding World. A Slytherin Harry Potter fic. No Pairings.
Precious Things Lay Hidden: An Eighth Year HP fic. Following the Battle of Hogwarts, a curious letter from Gringotts Wizarding Bank flips Hermione's whole world on end when she learns that she's not the Muggleborn witch that everyone believes her to be. Hermione/Theo Nott pairing.
Upcoming Scene, Event, or Detail
There’s an upcoming stealthy mission for Vader and some of his troopers that I am really looking forward to writing. But I just need to get through the next couple of chapters beforehand. 😅
Honestly? Everything! Which is probably why I’m having such difficulty with DWMJY. Um… I’m really looking forward to the rest of Hermione's summer with the House of Black, and her learning the ins and outs of Pure-blood society. I love setting things up for later on in the story, so I really need to make sure that everything’s in place and ready to go, etc.
A 300 year old Alina and Aleksander working together to bring the Lantsovs down. Kinda vague, but I’m only feeling vague vibes with this story right now.
Just Harry learning more about the magical world before he heads off to Hogwarts. Oh, and Regulus getting his brother out of Azkaban before Yule. Ya know, all in a day's work for the Lord of the House of Black.
Developing Hermione’s relationship with her father, Regulus. That, and developing Hermione’s relationship with Theo Nott. Kinda vague, but I’m only feeling vague vibes with this story right now.
ORIGIN : HUMAN COMMONER
vesa's origin is based on the cut content for dragon age : origins where the player could have chosen human commoner as their origin.
from the dragon age wiki :
the human commoner origin was envisioned in a similar vein to luke skywalker's story. the player character was a farmer [ in redcliffe village ]. they would find a mutilated corpse of a cow , foreshadowing the coming darkspawn threat. their farmhouse would soon come under siege by darkspawn. the player character would lead the defense , &. during a desperate moment of the fight , duncan would come to the rescue &. then recruit the pc for the grey wardens.
dwyn was intended to be the villain in the human commoner origin. the human commoner's parents were to have taken out a loan from dwyn.
what i take from this is that vesa's family had been successful enough of a farm but with the encroaching blight , times had gotten hard. they took the loan out from dwyn without telling her initially , &. part of the origin is the discovery of that because he's come to collect. so despite her concerns with the slaughtered cow &. what it could mean , she is distracted trying to come up with money to prevent dwyn from keeping important family treasures. this includes weaponry that the aisleys use to defend themselves.
there are two courses of action the player character could take : complete dywn's circuit of debt collection or steal the items back. vesa chose to convince the other debtors to pay up. this allows her to explore redcliffe &. meet duncan. when she finished this , the dwarf did not return the items , claiming he never specified that in their deal. she only earned her family more time before he sold them to count towards their debt. if vesa had tried to steal them , she would have been caught regardless on the return to the farm , resulting in her being emptyhanded when the darkspawn arrive no matter the course of action.
dwyn abandons the family when the attack happens , taking the valuables ( &. weapons more importantly ) with him. vesa , as a mage , is less restricted in her fighting capabilities to defend her home , but both of her parents are killed. duncan appears at this point &. is able to rescue vesa from the remaining hoarde. he then conscripts her , as she has nowhere else to go. thus begins her journey to ostagar.
when she is faced with dwyn again , she has the special dialogue option that he owes her for the slaughter to either convince him to defend redcliffe or return sten's sword. she convinces him to fight , allowing sten to intimidate dwyn into giving asala back , but allows him to be killed in the battle. dwyn knows vesa chooses to let this happen as he dies.
following this , for any warden , there is a questline to discover who all owes money to him , what items of theirs he may have taken , &. ways to return them. alternatively , the debt can be inherited &. all valuables kept. vesa chooses to return everything , which results in some of the items being given to her as thanks.
#* / codex : meta !#i think this is coherent idk BUT#origin + how it comes into play a lil later in the game !
I have like wayyyyy too many that it prolly wont fit in a single post/reblog so I'll send you an ask with the dragons and the ones based on characters (ig I'll call them ocs since i havent written the damned story on them yet) bc... yeahhhh theres a lot to say the least
Anyway:
Starting from the top left you have: The Lesbians, uhh magic girlies (idk very few of these characters have an overall personality archetype), Stone Mimic, in this one the blue guy had his arm fall off so i had to glue it back on lol, mind flayers (one cthulu colors and i gave them a sex based on color bc why not), uhh mage and warrior, Luke Skywalker getting eaten by a slime thing, gorgon and a monk, the reptile guy was one of my very first minis hence why most of him it just green... and male gorgon (male gorgon is less cool)
I have like 4 more that wont fit here thats not a dragon or have more lore than 'Lesbian'
Umm idk if you saw but just in case (and without minimal knowledge loredump) warhammer minis i painted (so far, have like 20 that need to be painted when it warms up):
:3
“You’re saying he’s still here,” Piett stated as the Lady prowled in a perimeter around them.
“Yes,” the King replied, and his daughter looked to Luke.
Luke who was his son but not.
Luke, not Aiden.
Veers would have to deal with his feelings about that later.
“What—” began Zev, when the earth beneath his feet opened and his son dropped as though a giant mouth had swallowed him.
“NO!” the General roared diving at the spot in the same moment that Luke and Piett did.
Palpatine was determined to take everything precious from his life. Veers would walk through the fires of hell to prevent that from happening.
“Max! Max! ” Piett yelled in his ear as Veers tried to cast breaking spells to open the churned up dirt.
Zev was down there. Zev had been devoured by the earth, and even now was gasping out his life…
“Opening spell!” Piett ordered—his voice taking that cold and intense tone he used when things were bad.
Veers took three deep breaths and then he, Luke, and Piett all reached their hands toward the ground simultaneously.
Whumptober 2021 Day 15 L&V Doubles!
Two fics again today!
https://archiveofourown.org/works/34511614
Title: Drained
Summary: Day 15: FEED A COLD, STARVE A FEVER Delirium | Fever dreams | Bees. General Vader siphons Luke's magic one too many times, and Luke pays the price.
Excerpt:
Luke bared his teeth at the officer holding his tray above his head. “Give that back.”
“You haven’t pledged loyalty to our Emperor, Recruit.”
“I don’t have to swear loyalty, I’m a prisoner,” he shot back.
The officer gave him a haughty look. “No matter how you came to be in our majesty’s army, you still must swear loyalty to him,” the man insisted.
Out of the corner of his eyes, Luke’s hands began to glow. He couldn’t help it. After years in the near-lawless land that was Tatooine, Ben had finally taught him to fight back, and he couldn’t just stand by when Imperials decided to mistreat him, or anybody else!
The sight of the glow only made the officer smile. “Careful, Recruit. Wouldn’t want your commanding officer to notice that.”
Suddenly Vader’s dark form was headed towards them through the crowd around the hastily-assembled mess.
“Oops,” the officer said. Luke dearly wished he’d gotten the man’s name, so he could get back at him later. “Too late.”
Title: Don’t Fuss Over Me
Summary: Day 15: FEED A COLD, STARVE A FEVER Delirium | Fever dreams | Bees. After ramming his ship into Darth Vader's, Luke has crashed on an unknown planet. He can only hope that Vader is worse off than him...and that he can contact his friends before his own injuries become too much to handle on his own.
Excerpt:
Luke coughed as he crawled out of his downed ship, choking on the smoke. His left leg dragged behind him, oozing blood as he emerged onto the blue grass of a planet he didn’t even know the name of. He could only hope that Vader had been worse off in the crash; he had no idea where Vader’s TIE had spun out to, only that his own lungs were burning.
He finally disentangled himself enough to flop onto his back, breathing heavily. Oxygen had never tasted so sweet.
Well, maybe the last time he’d crashed, but that was months ago.
Eyes closed against the bright sun shining through his visor, Luke took stock of his body.
FULL OFFENSE BUT
In case is hard to read:
Hi, I'm Luke Skywalker. I blew a big-city-worthy, 150km diameter space station, with an estimate population of One Million people who maybe aren't fascist themselves. But ok, because that was the center of killing and oppression system, abusing their population for like, 20 years.
(everybody cheers)
Hi, I'm Anders. I blew one 70m² church with like, 30 people in, and they are all the very enforcers of the fascist system. If there was an innocent person there, would an citizen that happened to be in the wrong place, wrong time. But ok, because the chantry has been systematical killing and abusing people for Over a Millennia.
(everybody feels sad)
