funniest statements from the magnus archives in no particular order:
spiders, but they hate you personally
that one guy who was paid to keep a clearly fucked up coffin in his living room and just decided to fucking ignore the weird shit. (king)
band that is so bad at music that you die
a pile of worms stole my phone and texted my coworkers
man who admits he killed another man because he had a spooky vampire name
guy who felt the need to just dunk on this one guy for 10 minutes because he was a shitty drug mule. he also got his bones stolen. this is only mentioned at the very end.
twink with knife hands (cool)
Two random men walked in and stole my shipping company
fucked up monsters taking an anatomy class but are very polite and on time so its cool and sort of endearing.
jon talking about how he has childhood trauma about an evil spider monster. only funny because i’m binge listening to this podcast and last week listened to him make fun of how stupid the idea of an evil spider monster is
bone stealing man shows up again and opens a gym to help people get fucking shredded.
the plumber who shows up to the middle of a creepy monster circus in the middle of the night, looks at the pipes overflowing with blood, goes “there’s your problem” and just fucking pulls out a mass of flesh and then…leaves.
they literally just let him leave
monsters have to invite him back to try and kill him again because he was so unfazed the first time

I'm a tad obsessed with The Magnus Archives now that I actually have free time to listen at my own leisure. May also be casually getting my mother into it as well hehe

So full disclosure, I actually listened to episode 7 on Saturday, but this episode had so damn much to it and I got a bit side tracked by a theory that I'm still working on but I really want to get this out before episode 8 comes out.
As usual, if you want to see the continuously updated and reblogged version of my red string board, you can find it here.
Today is Tuesday, 2/27/24. Episode 7 came out 5 days ago on 2/22/24.
“Talkers”
Norris (Voice: Martin?/ Alex)
Episode 1: “Reanimation (Partial) -/- Regret [Email]”. The Stranger? The End? The Dark? The Lonely? The Flesh? Arthur (Nolan?).
Episode 3: "Infection (full body" -/- Arboreal [Journal entry]". The Spiral? (Paranoia? Auditory, visual and olfactory hallucinations) The Lonely? The Corruption. The Flesh? (Callbacks to the Flesh Garden from S5)
Common Themes: Hearing the voice of a dead/ missing loved one?
Chester (Voice: John?/ Jonny)
Episode 1: “Transformation (eyes) -/- Tresspass [chat log]”. Magnus Institute, The Eye. (Involves a forum; the Web?).
Episode 5: "Disappearance (undetermined) -/- Invitation [Internet blog]". The Eye (Movies. Movie name: "Voyeur" "Must be seen to be believed"...). The Web? (Another website?). (Very reminiscent of Mag 110: Creature Feature.) The "poor old guy" at the theater is totally an Eye avatar, right? Kinda gives me "Simon Fairchild when he was first introduced" vibes.
Episode 7: "Agglomeration (miscellany) -/- congregation [email]". The Stranger. The Burried. The Desolation. Possibly all of them if my theory about the items the Volunteers brought in is correct...
Unsure if this is Eye related like the other statements were. This is also the first "Chester" statement where the source material wasn't from a website or blog, which don't have the same expectation of privacy that the sources of the other statements do. Email, though, so still internet related, and this seems to be an open letter rather than personal correspondence, so it still might align with the theme.
Agustus: (rare?)
Episode 4: “Collection (blood) -/- musical [letter]” The End. The Lonely? The Slaughter.
Letter writer thinks passing on his violin might allow a part of himself to live on in his nephew. Very Jonah Magnus of him.
Music teacher hears “faraway music”, then goes crazy and throws himself out of the carriage and dies. Reminiscent of Mag7 and the Piper? The merchant’s wares include dice (Mag 29?). Got the violin from him (took his blood?). Effect of the violin reminiscent to Grifter’s Bone (Mag 42).
(Oliver Bardwell lol very funny guys)
Non-Talkers (?)
Episode 2: "Transformation (full) -/- dysmorphic [video call]". The Spiral? The Flesh. The Stranger. Ink 5oul (avatar/ entity?)
Episode 6: "Injury (needles) -/- intimidation [999 call] "Corruption? The Spiral? The Flesh? The End?
"Needles" reminds me of Michael!Distortion.
Notes and Thoughts:
"It's not like we're dealing with Tape Recorders..." I'm side eying you real hard, Celia. And what's with all of the questions? The "looking for patterns" question is 100% fair but those examples are AWEFULLY SPECIFIC. I wasn't entirely sure I bought the idea that Celia was the same Celia from TMA, but no this is totally her for sure. "DO YOU KNOW WHO JOHN" IS EXCUSE ME? WHAT REAL STUFF?
HILLTOP CENTER BRANCH?!!! 0 managerial or other support from HR; very reminiscent of the weird circumstances surrounding the house on Hilltop Road. Bear skin rug very reminiscent of the Gorilla Skin in TMA S3. The Volunteers remind me of the medical students from Mag34. The email is about events from 2015. This was the same year Gertrude died and John became the Head Archivist in TMA. Why am I not seeing anyone else talk about this?
I have a theory that I was originally going to put in this post but detangling that giant ball of red string entirely is taking too long so I'm just going to put the TL'DR here and maybe make a proper list later if I can ever finish pulling the string on that particular red sweater. Between the items the Volunteers bring in, and the events of the incident itself, what if every single Entity is represented? The gunshots that were heard were the Slaughter. The fire was the Desolation. The person who wrote the email being crushed by all of the items was the Buried. There are a number of artifacts that get listed off that could represent at least one if not multiple Entities (which might be their purpose; considering how many times the fact that the categorization was imperfect got brought up in TMA, it's probably more helpful to view them as a spectrum more than anything else), including some that are very reminiscent of things from specific TMA statements (The bear skin rug -> The Gorilla skin, Old medical equipment -> the syringe in mag 45? The telescope -> Maxwell Rayner was originally Edmond Halley, the Astronomer, etc. etc). So...okay, hear me out: what if this was all part of a ritual, and that's what the "good cause" was? A ritual that involved all of the fears being represented? Sound familiar? Except instead of it being a ritual to start an apocalypse or reshape the world in the image of one or more of the fears, what if it was a ritual to summon something that was associated with all of the fears? Or, rather, what if it was a ritual to summon someone who had been touched by all of the fears? And that's also why so many of the items seem to be analogous to things from statements and events from TMA? Like....maybe I'm wrong entirely. Or maybe I'm right about this being about summoning someone, or something, (maybe someone from TMA? Maybe Celia?), but wrong about it being John who was being summoned. But, again, this incident took place in 2015, which was the same year Gertrude died and John became head Archivist, and I feel like this means something.

admittedly, I just love feedism content in general, but the reason I love it so much in TMA fanworks is because The Magnus Archives is about hunger.
it's about thirst — bloodthirst (MAG112, MAG176), thirst for knowledge (MAG92, The Eye) — and hunger — hunger for power (Jonah Magnus), statement withdrawal (MAG148), feed your patron or it will feed on you (MAG89, MAG184). Any food and drink mentioned are often corrupted, whether literally, by memories, or by paranoia, like the human teeth apple from the anatomy students in MAG34, or the oolong tea offered by Also Martin in MAG186, or when Martin offers Jon a sandwich and Jon is so suspicious that he actually comes to the canteen to make sure it isn't tampered with (MAG53).
one of the only actual physical descriptors we get of Jon is scrawny (MAG185), so there's something very satisfying to me about relationship weight; about him recovering from years of deprivation and neglect; about a squidgy little belly in the palm of Martin's hand when he spoons in behind him. the thought of Jon and Martin safe and happy and healthy and together delights me, be it curled up on the sofa with tea and a bun, or making soup, or going out for ice cream.
I love the idea of Jon's much-improved appetite still not quite stretching to finishing his plate and he always insists that Martin finishes it without so much as one guilt-tinged word because he looks so ridiculously gorgeous when he's full, one big broad hand resting contentedly on the crest of his belly; or that scene I still have to work in somewhere where Martin catches Jon engrossed in their own reflection, studying the little roll of chub that now swells out over the waistband of their boxers, and Martin begins to panic because when he does that, his mind is loud and swarming with the voices of his mother, of other kids in the school playground, of the shitty men he settled for because he just wanted to be touched: oh, don't wear that top, Patricia, it makes you look fat; my mum has big tummy like you but there's a baby in hers; sorry, I don't think I can go through with this. I don't like girls and your hips are just... too wide. but Jon just turns to him and smiles with sparkling eyes and says I look... loved.
I'm also working on a polychives au where the worm bites across his back and shoulders restrict Tim's movement so working out isn't really an option anymore, and one by one all his coping mechanisms fall through leaving only food. the weight begins to pile on, stretch marks spreading like lightning across his belly, his chest, his hips, and for a time he feels so horribly conflicted about it because it feels good, but it doesn't feel like himself in any way that he's used to. then Sasha tells him in no uncertain terms how much she likes it, and once a miscommunication is sorted with Martin, and Jon begrudgingly agrees to try the four of them being together, he starts to love his swelling belly, his puffy little tits, every bit as much as they do.
I love love LOVE picturing Tim with this big lovedrunk smile, absolutely boneless in a cuddle puddle as he jokes that he should get a ouija board planchette tattooed around his belly button because of how often they each have a hand on his pudgy belly, like they all do now.
just... the softest of soft recovery and comfort against the cruelty of the original work.

something i've been thinking about, essentially non-stop, every time i think of tma is how mag5: thrown away is, to me, an almost perfect representation of & unintentional foreshadowing for the eyepocalypse. i know, i know, jonny's said himself that it was during when he was still playing around with themes for the entities, and it was initially meant to be... i think the flesh? but hear me out on this.
the eye rules the eyepocalypse, and all other fears are therefore feeding it while also feeding themselves; the eye's servants are also the catalyst for the eyepocalypse. with this (albeit common) knowledge laid out, let me explain what i mean by the claim i made:
the episode follows a bunch of garbage truck drivers, and their visits to 93 lancaster road where they find... incredibly odd garbage. it also features several themes of several entities.
the large collections of specific types of waste could be categorized with the extinction, and it being, in general, garbage could tie into the corruption (since... filth).
the bag of doll's heads easily fits under the stranger.
the bag of singed strips of the our father (also called the lord's prayer) can be a hint to the desolation, this isn't even just due to the papers being singed, to me it also feels as if the prayer's “potential” is being destroyed as it now cannot be finished, if this makes sense; the dark, mostly in relation to the people's church of the divine host and the religious themes the cult brought into the dark; and of course the flesh which has some of the strongest religious themes, particularly in relation to christianity (albeit this most often being when cannibalism is at play).
the bag of teeth may also tie in with the flesh, it manifesting in bones and all; the stranger, think “bone apple teeth” (mag34: anatomy class); the corruption, unsanitary/filth, decay (if any of the teeth are decaying/decayed, that is); the end, also manifests in bones; and potentially the extinction due to human remains, which i know the extinction is specifically “destruction of human skin/tissue,” i do think over 1000 teeth could end up falling under it.
and then there's the eye; alan parfitt became so intensely focused on 93 lancaster road, to the point where it started to be a detriment to his health and relationships. the intense desire and morbid curiousity to learn who is leaving these bags at 93 lancaster road, and potentially why they're doing it, not only lead them to keep checking what's in these bags but it also ultimately lead to his death.
and, of course, alan's heart, plated in metal, ties back to the flesh. one could also argue that keiran woodward (the statement giver) sending alan's heart to a medical incinerator could be another small manifestation of the extinction (and this time it's actually destruction of human tissue).
i think i previously said (to friends, not really here) that i've seen a connection to every entity in this episode though i'm not sure whether i was hyperbolizing or if i simply don't remember the potential ties to the hunt, slaughter, spiral, lonely, vast, buried, and web.
i guess what i'm saying, and what my thoughts are, is that mag5: thrown away is a mixed bag (badum-tssss) of entities and the eye, mostly through alan parfitt though also keiran and the others, is kind of like a catalyst to the spiral into their constantly checking what's in those bags, showing manifestions of all the entities, feeding them with their fears. it just a very unintentional amalgamation of entity manifestions that blend in a very eyepocalypse-y way? or, at least, i like interpreting it that way.

ok i take it back MAG34 is officially my fav episode now i was so very nearly a biology major and this monster concept like Not Humans who join an anat class to learn how to physically construct themselves is SO delicious to me. also the entries with jon actl talking to someone else are always my favourite and i love the 'well this is patently insane but i guess this is happening now' vibe of this professor. 'oh good lord that's-' 'deeply unpleasant yes!!' is SENDING me

I love how in mag34, the first statement taken directly from a subject since Melanie, the first thing Jon does is apologize for his recording setup. Melanie's bullying got to him fr

Wait wait wait!
What if we go all the way back to mag34 Anatomy Class. Professor Lionel Elliot thought (reasonably) that all his students were interconnected and from the same place, right? But what if they were all different Eldritch Horrors from different stories/podcasts, each independently gaining a human(ish) body somehow, each looking to learn what it means to be human.
This would imply their group was less grand conspiracy and more lovecraftian support group.
