god training alfred sucks so bad bc there just isnt any niche that he can fill even as a royal. sword/lance user? great knight louis, who everyone is already using, got that covered baby. goldmary got that covered as well, and she comes with decent avoid. calvary? everyone who hasnt already been using merrin is a fool. high def personal skill that triggers randomly.... diamant AND louis has in built high def that doesnt need to be triggered. personal skill to +2 str if he waits and does nothing would be a good skill if he can field more than 2 enemies in enemy phase. he cant though he's gonna be fucking dead being doubled with that atrocious speed. cant even do backup chip damages.... like the game did you so dirty alfred. you were beautiful while you lasted etc
#he doesnt even have access to S rank weapon of any kind#the niche with celine is that even though her dex is capped low too (they hate to see a girlboss winning) her high luck ultimately stacks#her hit AND avoid and makes her a very reliable attacker#she can finish bc she hits reliably AND she can start bc she has high avoid#not to mention if ignis triggers she can also finish as well#timerra is very balanced and while she doesnt attack particularly strong she's the only one of the royals other than alcryst#who doesnt get kicked in the balls by having her dex capped insanely low#so sandstorm triggers pretty regularly. AND she is also a backup which makes it fun to put her around the map and sees her chime in#fogado is especially good with radiant bow and also as another archer since i love using alcryst for fog of war#since alcryst mag sucks#fuck even boucheron fills the niche of being the early unit who has high build and cant be slown down by heavy weapon#like they really want us to bench alfred. as soon as possible. too beautiful to last or something#duri vs fe

fe3h units 3: golden deer
Raph's usable but not a part of the A team. Most units don't want to be taking more than one hit anyways so as long as he's not dying in one attack its fine and Raph is one of the more survivable units. What I've tended to have more problems with is his speed, on maddening he get doubled so often and that's what puts him in danger. Defense can be compensated for with a battalion and shield. Wyvern lord would let him canto away from danger thus not needing as much defense. War master and gauntlets would better use his high strength.
Generally speaking a simple progression for Hilda is fighter, brigand, wyvern rider, wyvern lord. Hilda is one of your best physical attackers, wyvern lord is probably her best final class so build towards that. You can optionally pick up pegasus knight for its mastery ability darting blow which is very good. Try to master brigand, most physical units want to for its ability death blow.
Leonie has the highest speed and crit rate in the game. Mostly speed and a little strength determine avoid, crit is equally dex and luck, Leonie has a lot of all 3 she's equally as good at this as Petra is. Leonie is chosen less often as dodgetank because she's such a good archer. To put it another way Leonie is as good a dodgetank as Petra and Ingrid but Petra and Ingrid aren't as good at dealing damage as Leonie. Leonie makes one of the best bow knights in the game and is my personal favorite. Please note bow knight trades mobility for bad stats and growths, other equally good options for her include sniper or a lance class like falcon knight or paladin. Bow knight has the largest range in the game and one of the best at hit and run tactics. With Leonie's high crit she can crit most hits this is especially good for double hit attacks which she may be able to on default with her extremely high speed but also enhances 2 hit combat arts like sniper's hunter'y volley and her personal point black volley.
For Lorenz the main builds are frozen lance paladin vs dark knight, it's a trade off paladin has lancefaire's +5 mt but dark knight has spell casting versatility and range. Long term dark knight also has a mag growth but you're probably already in endgame so by the final map the difference will be small. Personally I like dark knight since in maddening frozen lance starts to fall off in end game and its kill rate becomes shaky leaving Lorenz open to counters (interesting fact is that Lorenz is the one who benefits most from the defensive abilities of Thrysus). With Lorenz, Thrysus augments both his offensive and defense and makes him your tankiest magic option, so it gives him a niche that Lysithea can't fill. Lorenz is one of the best users of dark knight it is HIS class. the versatility of magic usually pays off against a weaker frozen lance which on maddening won't kill in endgame.
Poor Lorenz. 3H rewards min-maxing and punishes versatility and magic-physical mixed units more than other FE games. Lorenz would have done great in Awakening or some of the other games. Thrysus for that mage tank build tho.
for weird/fun builds on ng+ file where you don't have to worry about investment cost Wyvern Lord is an ok option as he can switch between physical and magic axes. I took him down the brawling route once and he did better than expected (not totally useless). If you want low investment just make him healer and build your healer to be an attacker.

Magnet Inspection vs Magnet Audit: Understanding the Differences
Magnets play a crucial role in various industries, including manufacturing, automotive, electronics, and healthcare, among others. They are used in a wide range of applications, from holding and lifting heavy objects to powering motors and generators. However, like any other industrial component, magnets can degrade or fail over time, which can result in decreased performance or even potential safety hazards. To ensure the proper functioning of magnets and prevent costly downtime, it is essential to conduct regular inspections and audits to assess their condition. In this blog, we will delve into the differences between magnet inspection and magnet audit, and understand their significance in maintaining magnet integrity and performance.
Magnet Inspection: What is it?
Magnet inspection is the process of visually examining magnets to detect any signs of wear, damage, or other anomalies that may affect their performance. It involves a thorough examination of the magnet's physical condition, including its surface, structure, and any attachments or coatings. Magnet inspections are typically carried out by trained personnel who are familiar with the specific type of magnet being inspected and the requirements of the application.
During a magnet inspection, the inspector may check for various issues, such as cracks, chips, corrosion, loss of magnetism, or any other signs of damage that may have occurred due to factors like wear and tear, exposure to extreme temperatures, moisture, or impact. The inspector may also verify the magnet's dimensions, magnetization direction, and any additional features, such as mounting holes or handles. Additionally, the inspector may review any previous inspection records or maintenance logs to identify trends or patterns that may indicate potential problems.
Magnet Audit: What is it?
Magnet audit, on the other hand, is a more comprehensive and systematic assessment of magnets to evaluate their performance, compliance with standards, and adherence to best practices. It goes beyond visual inspection and may involve a series of tests and measurements to assess the magnet's magnetic properties, such as strength, polarity, and magnetic field distribution. Magnet audits are typically conducted by experienced magnet experts or specialized third-party agencies that utilize specialized equipment and techniques to conduct thorough evaluations.
During a magnet audit, various testing methods may be employed, depending on the type of magnet being evaluated and the requirements of the application. These methods may include magnetometers, Gaussmeters, Hall effect sensors, magnetic field mapping, or other specialized tools and instruments. The audit may also involve testing the magnet's performance under simulated operating conditions, such as temperature and humidity variations, to assess its stability and durability.
Significance of Magnet Inspection and Audit
Both magnet inspection and magnet audit are crucial in ensuring the reliable performance of magnets and preventing potential issues that may arise due to magnet failure. They play a significant role in maintaining the integrity and efficiency of magnets, extending their lifespan, and minimizing the risk of costly production downtime or safety hazards.
Performance Assessment: Both magnet inspection and magnet audit help assess the performance of magnets to ensure they meet the desired standards and specifications. Inspections help identify any visible signs of damage or wear that may affect the magnet's performance, while audits provide a more comprehensive evaluation of the magnet's magnetic properties, such as strength, polarity, and magnetic field distribution, to ensure they are within the acceptable range.
Compliance with Standards: Many industries, such as automotive, aerospace, and electronics, have specific standards and regulations that govern the use of magnets in their applications. Magnet inspections and audits help verify whether the magnets comply with these standards and regulations, ensuring that they are safe to use and meet the required performance criteria.
Early Detection of Issues: Both magnet inspection and magnet audit play a crucial role in the early detection of issues that may affect magnet performance. By conducting regular inspections and audits, any signs of wear, damage, or other anomalies can be identified

FAQs
What is Magnetic Particle Inspection?
Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) is a nondestructive testing (NDT) method used to detect surface and near-surface defects in ferromagnetic materials. It is commonly used in industries such as manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, and oil and gas, where the integrity of critical components and structures is of paramount importance.
The principle of MPI is based on the interaction between a magnetic field and the magnetic properties of ferromagnetic materials. Ferromagnetic materials are materials that can be magnetized, such as iron, steel, nickel, and cobalt. When a magnetic field is applied to a ferromagnetic material, the magnetic field lines form a pattern, called magnetic flux, within the material.
During MPI, a magnetic field is first applied to the component or structure being inspected, either by using a permanent magnet or an electromagnet. The magnetic field causes the material to become magnetized. Next, a fine ferromagnetic powder, usually iron particles coated with a fluorescent or contrasting dye, is applied to the surface of the material. These particles are attracted to the areas of the material where the magnetic flux is disturbed, such as near-surface defects or cracks.
The inspector then examines the surface of the material under ultraviolet (UV) or white light to observe the pattern of the iron particles. If there are any defects or cracks present in the material, the iron particles will accumulate at these locations, forming a visible indication, or "magnetic particle indication," that can be easily detected by the inspector.
MPI is highly sensitive and can detect very small defects, such as cracks, pits, and surface discontinuities, that may not be visible to the naked eye. It is a widely used NDT method for inspecting a variety of components and structures, including welds, castings, forgings, gears, shafts, and pipelines.
There are several advantages to using MPI. It is a relatively simple and cost-effective method compared to other NDT techniques. It can be performed on both ferromagnetic materials and components of various shapes and sizes. It can provide rapid results and does not require the use of hazardous chemicals, making it environmentally friendly. MPI is also highly reliable and can provide accurate and consistent results when performed by trained and certified inspectors.
However, there are some limitations to MPI. It is only applicable to ferromagnetic materials, which limits its use in inspecting non-ferrous materials, such as aluminum, brass, and titanium. MPI is also limited to detecting surface and near-surface defects, and may not be effective in detecting defects that are located deeper within the material. Additionally, the results of MPI can be influenced by factors such as surface roughness, material composition, and the orientation of the defect relative to the magnetic field, which may affect the accuracy of the inspection.
In conclusion, Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) is a widely used nondestructive testing method for detecting surface and near-surface defects in ferromagnetic materials. It is a reliable and cost-effective technique that provides rapid results and is used in various industries to ensure the integrity of critical components and structures. However, it is important to have trained and certified inspectors perform MPI to ensure accurate and consistent results, and to be aware of its limitations when selecting an appropriate NDT method for a particular application.

PLAYING: PlanetSide 2
Massive, exciting, chaotic, confusing, overwhelming, and almost Battlefield...I'm having fun.
Before I dig into Battlefield, I'm gonna go on a long tangent about what I was looking for with PlanetSide 2:
Simply, I wanted an action-packed war simulator not based on kills where I get to be a medic and support my team achieving objectives. Battlefield.
It took me a bit to get into online shooters. Running in circles trying to kill people didn't make me very happy. Warhawk for PS3 was the first time I really got into competitive play...well, World of Warcraft's battlegrounds. I didn't like them, but I played them. I liked the idea of trying to secure territories and earn points as that felt like real-war. That is, you secure resources to be the most successful faction. I still preferred PVE, but that's also the game that made me fall in love with healers. Moving onto Warhawk (cause I was a fan of the original PS1 game), I loved the paper-rock-scissors gameplay. It wasn't just who was fastest on the trigger or who got around behind you--but who had the best counter attack to your offensive. Tanks could obliterate infantry, but an infantry with a flamethrower could obliterate a tank. A Warhawk was a nimble aircraft, but a tank could kill it in a single shot. Plus you had homing rocket launchers and anti-aircraft. The main game mode was territories where you tried to dominate the map, and that played into the "realistic war" aspect I enjoyed. Since in the end, it wasn't about killing to win--killing was a means to an end, not the end itself.
The problem with Warhawk, there were no classes. You had to go find weapons and hope other players hadn't taken them yet. So maybe you're a great sniper, but you had to compete for the sniper rifle lying around. And there was a chance some noob grabbed and got lost in the jungle. I had great time with Warhawk, but it left something to be desired.
Anyway, Warhawk made me hungry for strategy-based online shooters that emphasized teamwork. I did not see that in Call of Duty, and still don't. My next game was MAG for PS3. It touted 128 players online, which was insane and I thought I'd love it. I did not. At first, it was really cool to see so many players fighting (I think the 128 was actually broken up into zones so you were never in a 64 vs 64 battle...but the overall conflict involved as many players. I think.) I wanted to be a medic (Warcraft ,right) but sadly anyone could give themselves a self-heal kit. So anytime ppl got hurt, they just healed themselves. While I dedicated lots of points to being a medic. A medic most people NEVER needed. So basically, no classes. On top of that, players could equip super armor. So it would take a clip and a half to kill anyone. Basically it was a bunch of terminators fighting each other. And when no one is really scared of dying, everyone is just sorta walking out in the open. It just didnt' feel "intense".
While complaining about this, a friend said: "I think what you're looking for is Battlefield." So I bought Bad Company 2 and they were fucking right! It was 12 v 12, but conquest mode felt like what I was looking for. Instead of focusing on kills, you tried to control territories. Also, there were classes, and I got to play a medic! I loved Bad Company 2 and got all of my friends interested. When Battlefield 3 came out, I loved it even more. The Assault (medic) class was unstoppable and I did really well. For the first time in an online competitive game, I routinely was in the top 3 of every round, very often in first place. I usually had the most kills, most objectives taken, and my heals boosted my points way up. I loved that the stats emphasized your point score over your actually kills, as it showed who was the most impactful.
I tried Battlefield 4, but life got in the way of really enjoying it. When I finally had time to get back into Battlefield 3 & 4, people had moved on. I also started to hate killing in video games. I switched to only healing and playing the objectives. I actually got first place, twice, in Battlefield 3 solely on heals, revives, and objectives: zero kills.
I've been looking for an experience ever since. I've tried Paladins and Overwatch 2. While I enjoy the healing classes, the rounds are really short and don't have that epic quality of battlefield. It's fun, but not as exciting.
PLANETSIDE 2
When PS4 was about to launch, they bragged that they were bringing PlanetSide 2 to it. I was shocked that this game was so old and I had never heard of it. It looked like Battlefield but the maps were huge and rounds ongoing. It was intimidating but exciting. I had thought to bring over all my Battlefield friends. But PlanetSide 2 wasn't available at launch. and while I was waiting on it, life went on.
Recently, I was sitting around thinking: I want to play a medic in battlefield. But I don't own a copy of the game that other folks are really playing. Overwatch 2 was no better than Paladins and I prefer the healer in Paladins. I asked around and folks recommended PlanetSide 2. So I decided to give it a real play through.
WHAT'S HAPPENING?!
I'm still figuring the game out. Learning how to spawn caused some issues. I think I get it. The medic class is actually pretty popular. I was almost annoyed by how I was having to compete for heals. That's because I'm trying not to kill anyone, just healing.
I don't love the heal gun. You lock-on and heal, much like Mercy in Overwatch 2. I prefer the medpacks of Battlefield. I think Grohk's healing totem very much achieves that. I'm able to heal with Grohk's staff two, so it's like a combo of the heal gun and the medpack. Still prefer the medpack, as you can place them in strategic places. The medgun just makes it...awkward.
(I forgot to mention I love being a healer in The Last of Us: Factions. Great online game!!!)
I'm still struggling to figure out how to be supportive as a healer, especially as I refuse to shoot anyone. The frontline neads healers, but teams rarely move in a sensible way. While people die as fast as Battlefield, they're not smart about their advancements. Running blindly into hot spots and not taking up shooting positions (sometimes).
I also ran into an issue with controls. Since it's a PC game, I have to use mouse and keyboard. Unfortunately, I'm not used to that so my brain was having to translate my intent into keyboard/mouse actions--kind of like having to translate all my thoughts into a foreign language before I spoke. It slowed me down. So I used my AntiMicro program to assign keyboard/mouse actions to my controller. There's a few limitations, but I'm able to more comfortably navigate and commit actions.
Anyway--the experience itself:
Graphically, it looks pretty good! It feels like Halo, to me. The aesthetic just feels similar. The tanks and flying vehicles seem to have the same design sensibilities. But like Battlefield, it's a really exciting war experience. And what's really interesting is because it's so "big", while you're trying to take a position or objective, you're also parallel to whole other battles. Maybe not full battles, but it was cool to be attacking building A, while tanks and aircraft battle over Build B, and then somethign happens at building C that changes the whole tide of battle. It's almost exactly what I'm looking for--but I wish they had medpacks.
While I love the idea that the battles just rage on for hours. I did run into an issue where my team defended a major base for roughly an hour. The whole time, we kept edging into enemy territory, very nearly securing more ground. But they always seemed to push us back to our base. In Battlefield, the time limit on battles would have ended the stalemate and we would have been whisked off to a new level with a redistribution of players. It just mixes it all up and keeps it fresh. But here, I just kept spawning in the same places, attacking the same places, dying in the same places. It just didn't end.
I don't know when I'll play again, but I had fun.

MAG vs. MAP - Reasons why I don’t ship Mary Ann and Gilligan
I made a faux pas when joining the Gilligan’s Island fandom online. In one group, I asked if anyone else likes the Professor and Mary Ann together. According to a few of the responses, my opinion is ‘invalid’ and that Gilligan is the only acceptable mate for Mary Ann. Who would have guessed this was a touchy subject?
“IT’S NOT IN THE SCRIPT!”
Word for word? No. Mentally? Yes. Physically? Yes. Intentionally? Yes and no. You’ll have to hear me out.
Don’t get me wrong. I like Gilligan and Mary Ann. They are a sweet couple — especially in the early episodes when Mary Ann is so adorably crushing on him.
But...
Mary Ann matures as the series progresses. Gilligan… he has his moments, but he will always Gilligan. We wouldn’t want him any other way. More on this in a minute.
At the time of the shipwreck, we see Mary Ann fresh off the farm and tossed somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. She is the most sheltered of the bunch, as in she’s had little to no life experiences outside of Kansas. She is not without a contribution to the group. She plays a vital role in making sure the castaways are eating proper meals and not just grazing. However, her skills don’t override her naivete. In his own way, Gilligan is also naive. If not naive, then happily oblivious. This is a quality she can relate to, and hey, Gilligan is super cute and the closest to her age. Given her upbringing, she is naturally going to gravitate toward him. They also have common interests such as butterfly hunting, taste in music, etc. They are a good pair and in many ways, Gilligan is any ‘Mary Ann’’s dream. He’s innocent and incapable of hate.
But he’s also insanely uncomfortable expressing any kind of romantic affection, going as far as to state in one episode he never wants to get married. Unlike Ginger, Mary Ann respects this. She has moments of pushing a kiss on the cheek but never tries to seduce him or force him into anything that makes him uncomfortable (’The Second Ginger Grant’ aside...). By the end of the series, Gilligan appears to accept Ginger’s overzealous flirtations and once or twice falls into her trance. With Mary Ann, he still retracts. Mary Ann is his friend. His best friend after Skipper. Romance doesn’t come into play for him.
Back to character growth… by season two, we already see noticeable differences to Mary Ann’s personality. Yes, she has maintained her innocence. Yes, she has held on to some of her youthful qualities. No, she is not the little bumpkin who needs to be protected. She was never weak, but all of the castaways are protective of her. Again, only natural given she’s the baby of the group. But overall we see a shift in her personality. A lot of the MAG implications drop, and a new prospect is introduced: The Professor.
Going through old posts and archives, I’ve seen so many MAG fans write off the MAP storyline in ‘Beauty Is As Beauty Does’ with comments like, “He only chose her because he felt sorry for her,” and, “The episode is only that way because Gilligan had to be the tiebreaker.” There are truths to this. I don’t deny it. However, The Professor prides himself on his intellect. He seldom shows romantic interest in Ginger. Though not quite as uncomfortable as Gilligan is with her advances, a romance with her is, at best, a superficial passing thought. She isn’t capable of a serious romance. Acting and Hollywood are her true loves, and she makes it known that she’s had more than her fair share of boyfriends. A strong platonic relationship is the only probability. Moving on… Mrs. Howell, of course, isn’t a prospect. So yes, in a sense, he was ‘stuck’ with Mary Ann when it came time to announce his vote for the most beautiful woman on the island (or world, to use his exact word). Obviously, the writers aren’t going to write out Mary Ann from the running. But as viewers, we shouldn’t only be thinking about why an episode is written a certain way. We see the plot presented to us and it is part of the overall story of the characters. However perceived, the Professor wouldn’t have said these things about Mary Ann lightly. As the most level-headed of the lot of them, he truly is able to see her inner beauty as well as the outer. He’s paid special attention to her from the start (keeping her safe in one way or another, generally spending time with her), so he is more aware of her growth than anyone else. And yes, we know Gilligan had to be the tiebreaker. We also know that he isn’t the kind of person to choose one friend over another. He appreciates all of them for who they are, no one better than the other. Another admirable quality, but I digress.
The plotlines for MAP are mostly unspoken. But they are there. For example, interactions between the two can be quite intimate. They’re almost always standing near each other and grabbing each other’s hands and arms. We can assume an overlapping morning routine (i.e. their good morning exchange as he’s shaving) in which they are comfortable, Mary Ann helping the Professor dress as a woman in ‘Gilligan The Goddess’, swimming together, dancing together whenever there’s a party, and other similar moments. Then there’s the matter of the Professor’s horrible acting. He is stiff and uncomfortable rehearsing with Ginger, but much more natural and relaxed rehearsing with Mary Ann. The theory can be stretched, too, by noting in Gilligan’s dreams, his love interest is almost always Ginger. Mary Ann is his buddy, usually. The one defending him. Ginger knows how to draw out his sexuality more, it’s as plain as that, even if it is buried in his subconscious. She can only relate to him in an adult way. If Gilligan were to end up with either of the girls, my vote would have to go to Ginger for this reason. Likewise, I think Gilligan would be good for her.
Come season three, Mary Ann is on a whole new level intellectually. She expresses interest in the Professor’s experiments, is able to take charge in some instances, can hold her own, and for all intents and purposes, grows up. In season one she states she has nothing in common with the Professor. This is true here. By season three, they develop common interests. In addition to a growth of knowledge, her outward appearance changes a bit. We see the pigtails much less as well as a more mature wardrobe. She is fully adapted to the situation life presented her. Gilligan is more or less in the same place in which he started. Clumsy, big-hearted, and boyish. They are no longer compatible romantically. At some point in the second season, Gilligan and Mary Ann form a brother/sister-like relationship. (“Think of me as your sister,” Mary Ann says in Rescue From Gilligan’s Island.) And it works. They bicker and play together and love each other.
Censors or no censors, psychologically, if something romantic were to happen between Mary Ann and Gilligan it would have by the end of the first season. They were both young and in a new, adventurous surrounding. One or both of their personalities would have set something in motion, especially with the nudge of Mrs. Howell. Fact is that Gilligan just isn’t in a romantic mindset. He loves his job and he loves his friends. A wife doesn’t come into play. With Mary Ann, we’re left to assume she wants to settle down and have a family. While Gilligan would undoubtedly be a good father, he would in many ways be another child for Mary Ann to take care of. Dawn Wells has said herself that a romantic relationship between Mary Ann and Gilligan is improbable.
Another comment I’ve seen more than once: “MAP shippers only write FanFiction because they’re just writing themselves with the Professor.”
Well… yes. Isn’t that what writing is? Perhaps I’m taking it too literally as an aspiring author, but you have to put yourself in the place of your characters. Even in FanFiction. Especially in FanFiction. Why else would we write for someone else’s character? For the money? For fame? Our favorites, be it a single character, a group, or a ship, are our favorites because we connect to them. There’s a passion there. Some we connect to more than others or on more than one level. As a writer, it is your duty to put yourself in the place of the character you’re writing, even if you wouldn’t necessarily go after a Professor or go after a Gilligan. So yes, perhaps someone writing a story about Mary Ann and the Professor would like to and is imagining what it might be like to find someone like the other. When writing, it’s only natural that an essence of ourselves go into our words. It’s not a bad thing. Sometimes it’s extremely obvious, especially when the character strays too far away from their canon personality, but the solution is simple. Hit the back button. All of this can be said for MAG stories as well. Stated before, Gilligan is in many ways a dream match for the ‘Mary Ann’ personality type. He represents the innocence that has been lost in modern times. So really, there’s more fantasy surrounding him. A Gilligan isn’t as obtainable. He is a rarity that should be cherished. And there is nothing wrong with that. Overall, my biggest question about this comment is, why are you reading the story if you don’t like the pairing? Why are you wasting your time making someone feel bad for something they put their heart into? Move on.
For me, the chemistry was never there for Gilligan and Mary Ann. A deep, deep, friendship? Absolutely. Romantically, she is much better suited for the Professor, and vice versa. Mary Ann has a desire to learn things, the Professor has the wisdom to offer. And she retains it. Subsequently, he can protect her and she can nurture him. In a way, it makes sense Mary Ann would end up with someone older, though that is an entirely different matter I’ll save for another time. Finally, the actors’ real-life chemistry brings this pairing to life. As far as Dawn and Russell are/were concerned, the love between the Professor and Mary Ann was real. It was in their script.
I believe MAG was the intent of Sherwood Schwartz, however, aside from the musical (which, I’m sorry, I do not personally accept as canon, partly because I am a self-proclaimed theatre snob and there is no reason this or any other tv show needed to be brought to the stage), he didn’t take the opportunity to make this relationship a reality. Lord knows he had more than one opportunity to do so. I know Bob Denver liked the prospect of Gilligan marrying Mary Ann, but again, not much came of it aside from a comment here and there. Dawn has single-handedly created a MAP mentality and has been backed up by Russell, and for me, that’s half the fun of this ship: Watching these two friends make inside jokes about the love affair their characters had off-screen. It’s hard for me not to fall in love with the pairing myself.
“When people ask how I survived on Gilligan’s Island, I always tell them, ‘A lot of coconuts and Mary Ann.” - Russell Johnson
I didn’t write this whole thing out as an attempt to convince MAG fans that their ship isn’t accurate, ‘invalid,’, or that MAP is superior. I wrote it because I wanted to share my personal reasons for not being a fan of MAG (romantically) and to hopefully provide some reasons as to why people like MAP and/or what they see in them. (I also found it to be a good psychology piece. It’s amazing how many profound themes are hidden in a show that consists of dozens of pie in the face gags.) Will I have the guts to post this outside Tumblr? Probably not right now. I’m a newbie in the community though I’ve been watching the show off and on for about ten years. The MAG vs. MAP debate has been weighing on my mind and I thought I might as well put my thoughts into words. It seems strange to me that there is such a war between fans over something like this. Remember this show is first and foremost a goofy sitcom from the 1960s (that had almost no romance in it). Quite frankly, I’m appalled by a few of the comments I’ve seen on old message boards. I’m choosing to believe those dark days are over and fandom culture has evolved since the mid-2000s to be more respectful of other fans’ opinions… the aforementioned people I encountered recently aside. Gilligan’s Island is the definition of escapism... and the island is plenty big enough to home MAG, MAP, Pringer, and the rest.

UGH!!!
This fandom is so problematic I swear.
First, these people are almost always hiding behind anonymous. Second, they are the ones taking time out of their days to click on a fic they know they’re not going to like just to trash it. Ummmm.... are you really that bored? Maybe take a walk, read a book, and/or have a cup of tea instead? It’s a much nicer alternative. Your pairings are hardly lacking any content. We’re allowed to enjoy our handful of stories. Third, their insults are coming from their own anger that their own ships weren’t finalized (and that it is no secret how much Dawn and Russell adored The Professor and Mary Ann together AND that Dawn has so much as said “Mary Ann and Gilligan are improbable”). MAP fans are easier targets than the cast and crew.
Yes, Sherwood liked the MAG and Pinger pairings. Yes, he created the show. We are well aware. But what came through on screen with MAP was the close friendship between the two actors portraying these characters. And that’s what draws us. Authenticity. A twelve year age difference is not unheard of and absolutely is not the worst I’ve seen portrayed in media. “Daddy issues”? Give me a break. Maybe we just want an intelligent pairing that doesn’t involve Ginger’s shallowness and Gilligan’s childishness (ha, the places I could go with that).
PSA: PEOPLE ARE ALLOWED TO SHIP THEIR SHIPS AND YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO INSULT OR QUESTION IT. FANDOM IS AN ESCAPE FROM REAL LIFE DRAMA. TAKE A MOMENT TO THINK THAT MAYBE PEOPLE DON’T WANT TO BE ATTACKED FOR SOMETHING THAT MAKES THEM HAPPY.
FANFICS ABOUT THE PROFESSOR AND MARY ANN ARE NOT HARMING YOU OR ANYONE ELSE. THEY ARE BOTH ADULTS. LET IT GO.
I’m really sorry you got a nasty review on such a lovely story :( You don’t deserve it at all.
Fiy to the person who commented on my recent MAP fanfic. I don’t ship MAP because I have “daddy issues.” I ship them because I like them together, which is what shipping IS. And frankly, because dawn and russell shipped it, that’s all I need. I don’t need someone telling me why I ship them.

I’ve been playing (or thinking of playing) a lot of roguelikes lately and it’s gotten me thinking on the idea of a fe mystery dungeon.
To cut to the chase, I don’t think a fe mystery dungeon would work particularly well. You can argue that mystery dungeon is on some level already a trpg because of how it forces you to approach combat, but I think the key difference that sets that kind of trpg gameplay (and the likes of some other trpgs like devil survivor for example) from fe is that fe has you controlling lots of people at once on relatively large maps while in mystery dungeon you’re confined to a series of corridors and rooms and are lucky if you can have direct control of more than one person at any given time. I think you could use the mystery dungeon gameplay loop (which is itself a specific iteration of the rougelike gameplay loop) of ‘go into dungeon => progress plot => go into (new) dungeon’ but I do not think fire emblem's gameplay is compatible with the claustrophobic dungeons in md in the ways that final fantasy, dragon quest, and pokemon were.
But could you still make a half-decent fe rougelike? Oh, absolutely.
On some level, Echoes already created the basis for the actual dungeon exploration and Thabes is a smaller-scale actualization of what one ‘dungeon => dungeon => plot’ loop might look like. By fully divorcing the world the combat occurs in from the dungeons you create a game where the dungeons can be whatever you want them to be without sacrificing the kind of maps that fire emblem’s gameplay needs in order to flourish.
There’s no rule that says you can’t do the whole ‘encounters take you to a different map’ thing in a top-down, grid-based dungeon like what you’d find in md, but I feel it would necessitate incredibly low enemy density per floor in order to attain a balance between exploration and combat which would in turn necessitate some kinda wack layouts in order to make it not super easy to completely avoid combat? You’d be gaining easier procedural generation (which isn’t 100% necessary for the genre, more on that later) and a lower budget (which. I’m talking about games that probably will never be made. cost analysis isn’t a concern atm) for what'd probably be universally worse gameplay? I’ll pass
I won’t go over all of these but just to go over some options for how the dungeon stuff would be set up. you can mix and match these to fit your preferences but generally every kind of roguelike would fall under some combination of these
one dungeon vs several dungeons (mostly decided by the needs of the narrative)
floor-based (generally one-way) vs open layout (generally require backtracking to solve puzzles, etc.)
procedurally generated vs fixed layout (further divided into fixed floor layout vs fixed dungeon layout)
one massive dungeon with an open, fixed layout would be something like... dark souls. I think you could do a lot with it and I’d be kinda cool. less replayability than something procedurally generated but an environment that’s hand-crafted just hits different, yknow?
Make it several smaller dungeons instead, and you’d get something like echoes if you removed everything but the dungeons (or like. any rpg). There are genres where this kind of setup for the environments you explore works (ie. Monster Hunter, if it’s somewhat interconnected it could be like most metroidvanias) but I think there are better options for a roguelike given how much you’d be returning to those environments and how quickly those environments would become stale
If it’s a single procedurally generated dungeon, you’d get something like Baroque or p3, while if it’s several it’d be good ol’ Mystery Dungeon.
for procedural generation there are two main routes to go: rooms and corridors (see: MD) or rooms that are all directly connected (see: Rogue Legacy, .hack). I think the second works better here because the purpose of corridors is mostly to force you to into encounters and while various room layouts can effectively trip you up and force you to fight someone, something like thabes where there’s almost always some room to maneuver even if you won’t always succeed in avoiding an encounter is a bit more along the lines of ‘fun and interactive gameplay’
speaking of thabes: fixed dungeon layouts! they kinda suck unless a massive amount of care was put into their design! I think that you can get away with specific floors in a roguelike (pmd actually does this every so often but outside of blatant “hey you got a reward” floors it’s hard to notice if you’re not looking out for them) but unless it’s an open layout like in a soulsborne game or like. Ico, where the whole environment is a whole environment it gets very tedious very quickly. Thabes works for me (and me alone, apparently (lol)) because it’s short enough to get through in a few minutes so you can whack pots on the bottom floor and hope for regalia in record time but like. I don’t think a full game of that would be fun
the only major questions i can think of re: design that remains would be like. how to integrate something like permadeath and recruitment.
something like pmd’s model where you can recruit people in dungeons after you beat them... would not work very well, I feel. I think super mystery dungeon had a good overall model where performing various tasks (speaking to people in town, completing missions, progressing through the plot, encountering npcs in dungeons) would expand your linkedin connection orb network and then allow you to call upon those people, but if we’re talking about a smaller (ideally original) cast, then having them be available all the time would be...
uhhh actually let me backtrack and elaborate on that idea a bit
Okay so like. your *gestures wildly* group in this game is a team of people who for one reason or another go into dungeon(s). you can only bring a certain amount of people into a dungeon at once and if keep sending the same person on back to back to back expeditions their performance will drop and they’ll eventually get tired and need to rest, forcing you to use someone else.
Echoes did that by making their max hp drop dramatically (and all at once), but i think that it’d be better to also focus on other stats (ie. a crit/avoid penalty, then a strength/mag penalty, then a spd/hitrate penalty, etc.) and make them decrease in more gradual steps since it turns it into an actual question of “oh hey stacy’s not doing so hot but I still kinda need to send a thief in... should I still use her, or focus on a different goal for now?” instead of just all but outright forcing you to bench stacy for a few trips.
If you meet someone by performing various task, they’ll be added to the pool of units you can send into dungeons and you can call on them. It might be interesting to have different units be available on different days of the week (instead of making it partially usage-based but mostly arbitrary like PSMD), but I don’t think I’ll pursue that line of thought much further.
If someone gets mortally wounded, they’re forced to retreat. It could be a system that’s semi-interactive (ie. in valkryia chronicles where you need to reach a downed ally and call for a medic) or one where they just leave on their own (ie. casual mode), but either way they’re gone for the rest of the trip and they need to take several days off before they and their stats recover (like with the fatigue system). You can still field them, but if they don’t fully recover and take another mortal blow, they’re gone for good.
I think I could try to justify this in a more articulate way but like. blah blah it ties into the whole r&r system and also makes it less frustrating when the rougelike you’re playing inevitably decides someone is going to die.
mmmmmmmm i think that’s it! If you have any comments my askbox is open ;)

Avatar: The Devotion
aka “You want to run a Magnus Archives TTRPG but you don’t want to wait around for the Rusty Quill system.” May I introduce to you:
The Chronicles of Darkness Core Rulebook. (Not an affiliate link, just for reference purposes.)
This is the fandom that got me into MAG in the first place, because I think the tone/aesthetics match up very well (including the Earn Your Happy Ending parts). Particular advantages of CofD over better-known systems:
already a real-world, contemporary setting, no hacks required.
plenty of non-combat-related crunch, in the form of the Investigation and Social Maneuvering subsystems, so you can optimize characters for things other than fighting.
(Or you can just sub in Down and Dirty Combat for everything and ignore the other subsystems, to simplify things.)
Very flexible monster-building systems, though the “ephemeral entities” flow chart does get out of hand on occasion.
Speaking of which, though: you can use Claiming as the mechanic for statting Avatars, if you want to stick to the core book. Or you could use the following fansplat, which is basically a reskin of Beast: The Primordial.
First, follow the CofD core rules for character creation. This is who your Avatar was before they were claimed.
Next, graft on the following template:
Replace Integrity with Humanity, rated 1-10, though you start at 7 (assuming you start as a human*). Attach one Touchstone at Humanity 6. This is your Supernatural Tolerance; the lower your Humanity, the more obvious it is even to everyday mortals that you’re not human, and the easier it is for other spooks to target you with Dread Powers.
I stole this one from Vampire: The Requiem.
Basira is Daisy’s Touchstone, and keeps her from losing too much Humanity even when she’s really feeling the Hunt.
Jane Prentiss is probably the lowest-Humanity Avatar we’ve gotten a good look at, though Jared Hopworth gets down there; Jon may have actually raised his Humanity since getting this template.
*I don’t think Nikola or Shambling Meat Pile were ever gonna pass, so there’s probably a separate rule for Things That Were Never Human to be implemented later.
Patron: Identify which of the Entities you are an avatar of, for the aesthetics.
This is where there’d be lists of Dread Powers that best map to each Patron and XP prices for in-splat vs. out-of-splat, I just don’t feel like writing that up.
Satiety is the fuel stat Rated 1-10, you start with 5 in the tank. You can reduce or eliminate Satiety costs for some powers, or swap Satiety for Willpower, using the “Resonant” Condition.
Feed what feeds you.
This is why different avatars cultivate particular loci of power (the archives, the House of Wax) or are intermittently active (the People’s Church with the eclipse stuff).
Probably the yantra rules from Mage: The Awakening apply here but I don’t understand them.
Devotion is the Supernatural Potency trait. Rated 1-10, you start at 1.
Avatars use Satiety to fuel their Dread Powers, and additionally “digest” a point of Satiety at regular intervals determined by their Devotion. To regain Satiety, you gotta scare the bejeezits out of someone in a way that pleases your patron: the more brutal/fatal the scare is, the more Satiety you gain at once. (Feeding rules from Beast: the Primordial go here.)
Low Satiety isn’t just a resource management problem; you also suffer various negative conditions from low or zero Satiety, and have to roll Resolve + Composure + a Humanity bonus to not take the first opportunity to feed that presents itself.
Of course, deliberately traumatizing another person -- among other behaviors that show you’re cleaving too close to your patron -- trigger a Humanity breaking point roll. Regaining Humanity tends to be harder than losing it, and usually requires to engage in a meaningful way with one of your Touchstones.
Raising Devotion has to involve a thematically appropriate choice, and raising it above 5 usually is a fatal choice cf: Jude Perry torching herself, Oliver Banks steering a boat into the path of a crashing satellite. Jon’s coma was the result of the fatal part preceding the choice.
Jon probably started the series at Devotion 1, if that. He’s now Devotion 6 and hanging onto that Humanity 7 with his fingernails, given that all his Touchstones have detached and he’s starting to throw around some serious Satiety expenditures
Daisy also hit Devotion 6 during the Unknowing but her humanity dropped like a rock; probably this is the avatar equivalent of “going loud” from Demon: The Descent.
Avatars like Elias are what you get when you manage to make it to Devotion 10 with a Humanity score higher than 5.

New to me: R8 Spyder, V10 Manual via /r/cars
New to me: R8 Spyder, V10 Manual
TLDR: Everything you would hope. Incredible performance. Great looks. Insane sound. Surprisingly comfortable. Some nice features. Loving it. More to come…
PICS
Hi everyone,
This turned into a long one. I hope you enjoy.
I have been passionate about cars since I can remember. It was the first thing I remember being passionate about and has remained one of my greatest passions. In particular, sports and supercars. I spend endless hours on YouTube salivating over them.
By my mid 20s I was saving up to get into a Z4 and after a bigger than expected pay rise I was fortunate enough to get into a Z4MR. Photos here. It has been an incredible experience with the peak being a 4,000 mile drive around the mountains of Western Europe. Videos here and here. Yes, I still have it.
I have been debating a step up for the last year or so. The full journey is a bit of a story but the short version is that last week I finally did it and bought this Audi R8 Spyder - 2010, V10, Manual in Sepang Blue with Black Leather and the options I cared about.
In this post I am sharing my (on reflection, apparently considerable) initial impressions. If you would like to know more about the car, my journey to getting it or anything else please let me know.
So, my initial impressions:
DRIVING:
Power - Naturally a significant step up from the Z4M and you can feel the difference in the acceleration. Quite simply, you are moving a lot faster a lot sooner – that sounds obvious but sometimes the most obvious things are overlooked and can be the most impactful. Specifically, when you are hurtling towards a corner with more weight, with more width, lower down and at higher speed than you are used to, you notice it and your adrenaline pumps. However, the difference in the acceleration is less pronounced than I expected and I think this is because of the way the power is delivered. Specifically, to me the Z4M feels more 'raw' where the R8 is more 'smooth' or ‘progressive’. It may be that I am not yet driving it that hard or in the sportiest setup, but it feels like the accelerator pedal mapping is more progressive where the M felt more sharp. Additionally – and I don't know if this is due to the engine being behind rather than in front, the type of engine, the 4WD or the weight – but the R8 feels more like a 'wave' or 'surge' of power vs the Z4M feeling a bit sharper but a lesser sense of thick/weighty momentum. It just keeps building in the R8. The Z4M would shock me for a second and then I would be accustomed. The R8 is more like a rollercoaster that just keeps piling on the speed and you find yourself screaming after 3 seconds rather than immediately.
Handling - to be honest, it is too early and I am too amateur a driver to be able to pull it apart in a forensic, academic way. However, my regular human perspective may still be insightful. My biggest surprise is with the mag-ride suspension. The R8 is considerably more compliant and comfortable than the Z4M. Even once firmed up you can still feel the mag-ride there - you are suspended by firm liquid rather than solid springs. Whether this is desirable is subjective to the person and context. It is brilliant for when you want the smoother ride as you cruise across country or navigate a town, but I think you don't get quite the same connection when you are going for it vs. the Z4M. That said - there are other things that heighten the experience such as the speed (more above) and noise (more below). It’s definitely a big net ‘gain’ in terms of experience so I will take the added comfort. Otherwise, steering and brakes are I am sure different, but I am yet to really pull it apart. I will likely retrim the steering wheel to get closer to the chunky M wheel.
Sound - perhaps the most important thing to me in terms of eliciting a deep emotional reaction. My Z4M has a non-OEM exhaust and the same is true of the R8. Both sound great in different ways but the R8 is considerably more special. The Z4M first – the i6 NA engine sounds great, especially with an upgraded intake. The roar of the engine is the highlight of the Z4M sound for me. The exhaust is also great. Mine came with a Hayward and Scott exhaust. I later had stock but had to go back having become to accustomed to the H&S. The upsides are that it is louder and gives it more mid-tones in the lower revs and amplified the rasp and made it more raw in the higher revs. The downside is that it drones. Next, to the R8. This has a Top Gear F1 Valved exhaust. When closed it is relatively quiet, delivering a low, deep but muffled rumble. You know the power is there, but it is non-intrusive. Great for cruising. Once the valves are open you have a deep, throaty rumble in the low revs, an exciting raw in the mids and a ferocious, roaring scream in the high revs. It sounds exhilarating on the open road and scary in a tunnel. It is incredible. I will try and capture it on video.
EXTERIOR:
I loved the original R8 coupe when it launched. I remember seeing a black V8 Coupe for the first time turning a tight city corner and it looked extremely cool. The black paint, carbon blades and LED running lights giving it a low, powerful, panther-like presence. The V8 sounding menacing. I was wowed. I still feel that presence when I see a black V8 Coupe today. Other colours don’t conjure the same memories or emotions. The V10 Coupe also doesn’t have the same impact. The small differences giving it a slightly more rounded and less sleek look to my eyes. I still turn my head when I see one, but it doesn’t blow me away like the black panther I saw 12 years ago.
I have a thing for convertibles/roadsters/spyders. The exposure to the elements. Driving the road and experiencing the environment and the car. Heightened sensations of sight, sound and smell. I also love the looks of a drop-top. This is true for the R8 as much as many. While it loses its iconic side-blades, it gains a set of ‘fins’ across its back, in two silver spines that complement the silvery shimmer of the fuel cap, tail pipes, wheels, and contrast the black aerodynamic features at the front and rear of the car. In V10 form it looks as sleek and menacing as the V8 Coupe, but with a different presence. The alloys and V10 distinguishing it, along with more subtle touches. Letting you know it is something special and serious. It may not be as dramatic or beautiful as an Italian supercar (the 458 Spyder being my personal dream), but it remains special to me.
I could go on. To save this being any longer than it already is – I love the somewhat subtle but still impactful waves and ‘hips’ over the wheel arches. I love the alloys – although I am going to get mine cleaned up and refinished without the polish chrome look (a bit too bling for me). I love the front lights – the eyes of the car, and the LED running lights. It looks best with the roof down and spoiler up, but still looks good with the roof up.
The colour choice was an easy one for me. Its subjective of course, but I don’t think red works that well on the car. The black is good but I think you lose sight of the subtle shapes and the contrast vs the aero features. Silver isn’t for me. The white is nice and I was considering it, but the silver ‘fins’ and wheels have less presence as they lose contrast. The dark/grey/charcoal looks great and I would have tested one if there was one available – although it is perhaps too subtle for me (the R8 doesn’t have the swoops of a Ferrari or edges of a Lambo to maintain presence in a flatter colour). The blue to me is beautiful. Bright, yet rich. It makes me think of the tropical ocean. Echoing memories of the vivid pictures Pixar delivered in Nemo. Flickering in the light and drawing you in. It contrasts both the silver and black on the car and strikes a nice balance of stand out beauty that I think any supercar needs, without being outlandish or brash. I love it.
INTERIOR:
I sat in a V8 Coupe last year and the interior turned me off the car. It was black leather, with all features in black leather. Stitching was black and so was the paint. The switch gear and dials are smart and solid, but not beautiful and – against all the black – seem boring. Most importantly, after the Z4M the interior felt too spacious. The distances from left to right and from wind to rear screen (over the ‘parcel shelf’) felt comparatively vast, almost like a lounge after the R8 and I felt less connected to the car and the environment as a result.
I was nervous I would find the same with the V10 Spyder but was delighted when I didn’t. There are several differences that to me explain this. First and most importantly, in the Spyder you lose the ‘parcel shelf’ behind the seats that gave it an airiness. It sounds like a small thing, but the interior in the Spyder felt intimate again. I think the roof line is slightly lower as well and the roof shape a bit tighter which may add to the sensation of being central and connected. Secondly, for me a few important options considerably elevate the cabin. Primarily the carbon ‘sigma’ interior details. I don’t buy into the trend of covering everything in carbon, but the few elements in this interior lift it above your average A4 and make it special. Another subtle but to me impactful option is the white/silver/titanium contrast stitching. It is one of those small things that I think makes a big impact.
Otherwise, I am happy with the interior. The seats aren’t as exciting and beautifully sculpted as some newer seats – but still look good to my eyes (thank you again to the contrast stitching) and are comfortable and supportive. The manual gated gear stick is of course famous and certainly a stand-out feature in both design as well as the mechanical tactility and engagement it delivers. The switch gear are all fine. Not beautiful or special, but solid, smart and add to the organic and mechanical feel. Surprisingly, the wiper/light/cruise stalks don’t feel as solid as the ones on the Z4M. Not that important but less impressive none the less.
I nearly forgot one of my favourite features of the car! The ability to drop the rear window. Meaning that even with the roof up you can be exposed to both the sound of the engine and exhaust – right behind your head, and the sounds and smells of the environment around you. It is brilliant.
The front luggage compartment is small. No doubt it would be better to have more space. I could take the Z4M away for weeks, which will be much harder in the R8. But when it’s a NA, manual V10 Spyder this to me becomes near irrelevant. I’ll make it work!
OWNERSHIP:
There’s no getting away from the costs. Being one of the last NA, manual V10 500+bhp cars for relatively moderate purchase and running costs, I consider it a relative bargain and reasonably ‘safe’/low depreciation risk expenditure. However, it was still a huge amount of money to spend in one go and I am aware (and ready) for the running costs. It is by far the most I have ever spent outside of a house and I had to take a huge brave pill to be able to do it, that took me a few weeks to swallow before I committed. To be frank, I am glad to have owned it for a week or two now as I am starting to get accustomed to the car and build some distance from the expenditure, and so can enjoy it rather than constantly worry about it.
Another major concern is the negative environmental impact of the car. I am very conscious of climate change and the negative human impact on nature (another love of mine). To keep things short – I have been learning about how to calculate and offset your carbon footprint (and broader environmental impact). There are websites that can estimate your carbon footprint and tell you where you can donate to in order to ‘offset’ it. Truthfully, I think we should just not do bad things. Rather than do something bad and then offset it. It makes me feel guilty. But this is a childhood dream, I have worked hard for it and I have had a really tough 18 months so I am letting myself enjoy this and planning to over-compensate to try and make a net-positive impact. If I can’t afford to do this, I shouldn’t have the car.
It is too early to comment on ownership otherwise. I am holding my breath and hoping for the best. The car has a full history with all in order and feels great.
If you read all of this – thank you. I hope you found it entertaining and/or insightful.

Schafft Transparenz – Seid gegenüber euren Stakeholdern transparent.
„In times of change the greatest danger is to act with yesterday logic“
Peter Drucker
