The birthday scene in mag 161 makes it clear that Jon did not have any kind of handle on his employees. Tim and Sasha absolutely do not respect his authority and aren't afraid to show it. Sasha causally admits to breaking I to his computer to look at his personal info and when Jon starts to admonish her Tim cuts him off and he just, stops. Then Tim lights the candles completely ignoring Jon's feeble protests. The two of them together are menace. They're absolutely running circles around the poor guy. It's no wonder he's so grumpy in season 1. The only person who listens to him at all is Martin and Jon can't stand him. The guy was in over his head from jump. He acts so cocky on the tapes in season 1 when behind the scenes he was winning the award for least in charge boss ever.

Also, another thought about tma 161 - It’s so cruel how Martin sees himself as a caretaker, and how his whole life that’s where he found purpose and self worth. But now, in this changed world, everything he knows to do is rendered meaningless.

“You should get some sleep” - we don’t need sleep here and sleep is awful anyway

“You should eat something” - we don’t need food. Or water.

“How about a cup of tea” - You can’t trust the tea. You can’t trust comfort at all.

He must feel at such a loss, I just want to save him <\3

The Magnus Archives Doodles, MAG 161 - 164

SEASON 5 BABY!!! I’ve finally made it!!

I loved hearing all the old tapes in MAG 161 and 162, God it was also good to hear Sasha’s (and Tim’s) voices again, I missed her so much. There were also so many funny and cute conversations happening in all these episodes that I can’t seem to decide which one is my favourite. Also Helen’s here!! Since MAG 157 I’ve just been itching to draw her again, I’m so happy with her design and she’s so fun to draw <3

Sorry, that birthday segment at the beginning destroyed me. And Jonathan sounds so sad and defeated and miserable. He doesn't know what to do anymore, his voice shakes so bad now, people don't need to eat or sleep anymore and he's just constantly being exposed to all the fear out there and Martin can't do anything to help him.

So Sasha was supposed to be the archivist originally? I wonder how different things would have been if that had happened.

We finally hear Jon say "I love you" to Martin and that warmed my heart a little, but everything else is just pain now. So where do they go from here?

I’ve been meaning to re-listen to tma s5 but have been putting it off because it reminds me of my life circumstances when I first heard it. I listened to Mag 161 tonight and it was too much, especially hearing how happy they all were at Jon’s birthday party (except Jon of course. Also, info-dumping about emulsifiers at someone ELSE’S party?? Man’s autistic asf). But I hadn’t remembered Gertrude’s tape to Sasha, but for some reason it stood out to me that Gertrude told Sasha that she would be unable to quit for the rest of her life.

Anyway, to change my mood, I picked a different one at random, Mag 26, Sasha’s statement of when she encounters Michael the Distortion for the first time…and one of the last things Sasha tells Jon is, “I should really quit, you know. We ALL should.”

Do we think that was planned by the writers?? Or was that just a wild coincidence - not to mention the fact that I just *happened* to pick Sasha’s statement right after listening to Gertrude’s statement *to* Sasha?

Oh damn. I promise I’ll shut up about this episode soon, but the parallels of Martin convincing Jon they need to leave the “quiet” and “safety” of the cabin in 161 and 162, with Jon trying to convince Martin to leave the lonely in 159…

The way they both don’t want to just survive, they want to have something to fight for

Also, Jon pulling Martin out using his power to make Martin see him, while Martin just waits, patiently but prepared to go as soon as Jon is ready. Not sure exactly what that says but it’s something

I haven’t seen anyone talk about how in the recording from Jon’s birthday (MAG 161) when everyone is singing happy birthday Elias sings “happy birthday dear archivist” instead of “happy birthday dear Jon”. He only ever saw him as The Archivist since even before the show.
