First listen to: MAG 144 - Decrypted
I feel like a connection could be drawn between this statement and Martin’s family drama. In the same way that this statement giver felt chained to his dad I’m sure that Martin’s mother felt chained to him.
Small note about the obelisk thing. Remember episode 100 when we heard statements from a bunch of different people. There was an old man how almost got lost surrounded by obelisks. The only reason he survived is because he left to meet someone for lunch. These statements probably aren’t connected but I wanted to mention it.
I don’t like what’s going on with Martin this episode. I want to believe that he was trying to protect Daisy since Peter Lukas was there. But he could’ve gone about it differently. What does he gain by pushing everyone away? I know that he had a deal with Peter Lukas but that deal doesn’t seem profitable anymore. It’s just like the deal between Basira and Elias. Basira and Martin like to think that they have some leverage in all this but that just makes them easier to manipulate!

Redemption Round 3 - Match 16
It's the end of today's matches, here with two episodes that I think are absolute bangers! Decrypted, despite being knocked out in Round One, made it through RR2 with 115 votes! It's up against the iconic Boneturner's Tale, wich comes with 164 votes from last round!
MAG 144 - Decrypted | Spotify - Acast - YT | Wiki | Transcript
Statement of Gary Boylan, regarding a strange track on his iPod.
MAG 017 - The Boneturner’s Tale | Spotify - Acast - YT | Wiki | Transcript

If you woulda told me in s3 that I’d be kinda upset at Martin for yelling at Daisy I would have laughed in your face. Martin baby I’m sorry I know why you did that but that’s my best friend. Be nice.

i know it’s because of his being consumed by the lonely but i love that whenever daisy catches up with martin in s4 he immediately bites her head off. it feels like he’s the only one in the archives who remembers what she was and what she did and how she treated all of them, while everyone else is like we love our werewolf cop gf she’s one of the gang now.

MAG 144 Relisten
Activity on my first listen: mowing the lawn.
That first few sentences of the statement about the hot weather, the sky, endless fields with yellow grass with rusted pylons and dry soil already create the image of a postapocalyptic wasteland.
What's the terra in terra-suburban house? I googled it, but there are only normal houses...
"Do you know that one of the symptoms of a heart attack is literally a sense of impending doom? Well, I wasn’t having a heart attack, but – I think I know what they mean. What settled over me wasn’t dread; there wasn’t enough uncertainty for that; it was doom." Adrenaline kicking in? This feeling can also occur because of psychological causes. It's so interesting how the brain just shifts into a totally different gear. It is actually scary that our brain is able to do this with us and we absolutely believe it in that moment.
"I couldn’t have told you why. Not really." Not really-counter of S4: 10!
What's the deal with the Skye boat song? I actually didn’t know this one and I can't find any deeper meaning why this was chosen here for this statement? Anybody who knows more about this?
"I’m sure there wasn’t a reason, not really" Not really-counter of S4: 11!
"I did as much reading as I could on cryptography and – codebreaking, and all of it seemed to point me toward one simple conclusion: breaking this code by myself was – simply impossible." Oh yeah, after last year's October some of us know that feeling now xD
Martin pushing Daisy away (*thinking about making a joke about pushing (up the) daisies*... especially since Daisy was literally... buried alive) is up there with the socially most uncomfortable scenes like MAG 56, when Jon shouts at Martin, or MAG 114, when Jon waits for Tim to come through the trap door and the conversation that follows... It’s so sad that Martin never really gets to know this side of Daisy.
PETER: "You don’t still think I’m trying to trick you into a grand ritual?" Wrong boss and wrong employee here, but that's basically the plan!
PETER: "Oh, come now. What would life be without the occasional twist?" Peter and his Extinction has been a really good bait and switch, I totally fell for it. So yeah, Peter, you are the occasional twist!

TMA Live Screams
144 - Decrypted
....Why is the tape doing this 'supernatural stuff is happening' white noise as Martin reads those numbers?
I feel like I might be reading too much into it but again, this is rusty quill. They don't do stuff for no reason. And sound design is a lot of work.

mag 144 - decrypted
funnily enough, one of the things that bring me the most hope about the continued existence of humanity, is the fact that if you take any point in time from anywhere in history, they have an impending doomsday from one cause or another. and sometimes it comes, sometimes it doesn't, but we're still here, aren't we? humanity as a whole is stupidly resilient. nuclear apocalypse is no longer considered a great threat, at least not in the way it was during the latter half of the 20th century. i'm too young to remeber that - i was gifted with constant blasting of doomsday prophecies of a collapsing ecosystem and resulting severe climate anxiety instead :'D
all that is to say, out of the many, many, many the-end-is-near scenarios humanity has faced, nuclear threat is not one that resonates with or truly scares me
beyond that, there is also something to how this guy was already isolated out in the middle of nowhere, with only a deterioating relationship for a connection, that already resonates with the extinction. perhaps not as violence or large scale as it typically is, but he has still gone through a major life change and loss, a worsening of conditions, and is sort of just waiting in the end, it seems, since he's just kind of stuck there in a way. and even then, when he seems to have nothing to lose, he loses moore
