Unpopular opinion: Is it ok to say that I actually like ichikawa halu's take on Triandra much more than Yoshiku? I mean Yoshiku may’be been her character designer since the start of Book IV but something about ichikawa's art of Triandra made it almost look like Yoshiku but with a much more clearer and crisp look to it.

Not to mention the dress she got looks super pretty!

I personally don't think it's controversial, it's reasonable for people to like Halu's artwork more.

The problem I'm starting to see with Yoshiku's art is that it's falling into the same problem that Sencha has, which is expression. They both have a gorgeous coloring style that is soft and detailed, but for some reason that style sacrifices expressiveness. Base Peony and Seidr don't have much in the way of a noticeable expression change compared to Maeshima Shigeki or Kozaki Yusuke. Though I will say Attuned Peony looks much more alive than base Peony does, so there was visible improvement.

Also the other thing we're looking at is that Attuned Triandra has come out three years after base Triandra, so there's definitely a huge visible quality difference in art. It's only natural people are gonna be more drawn to Halu's piece rather than Yoshiku's outdated piece.

do you have any favorite artists? maybe ones you take inspiration from or really look up to?

i’m supposed to be getting ready to head out in a bit but YOU!!! YOUU!!!!!!!!! PURPOSEFULLY TRAPPING ME!!!!! anyway omg i have a list of the artists i really like on my listography but its not up-to-date thank u for reminding me that!

in no particular order ken sugimori, shigeki maeshima, kazuya nuri, masayuki doi (particularly in smtiv) have really latched onto my head as i progressed thru my art over the years i think. more recently, most of the snk artists especially shinkiro, and eisuke ogura’s smooth watercoloury painting styles are so pleasant to look at. ryoko kui’s art studies and little doodles for building up on dungeon meshi are also so inspiring they have been enough to break me out of my really bad art block 😭😭!!!

i think the key illustrator that really has stood out to me the most is shigeki maeshima! PLS LOOK 🫵

tatakau shisho is a light novel ive talked abt on here several times and it had such an intense grip on me in middle school and i think his work for the series is some of the most gorgeous art i’ve ever seen in his portfolio and for any series even, and to this day is still what i grab my inspo from😭😭

idk if i could achieve the details he has in his art ever but omg liking his works was my personality and im so sad tatakau shisho was never really known enough for ppl to notice jus how beautiful the artwork (and the story) was. on the plus side some of yall might know him from drawing for fe heroes so I THINK HES DOING GREAT IM SO HAPPY FOR HIM FOR THAT

anyway as a summary i think the pattern is i really like seeing smooth crisp lines and velvetty palettes, expressive eyes, REALLY DETAILED HAIR yeah. i started looking deeper into art as a kid with maeshima’s works and eventually got to here 🫡 my art is a little more on the cartoon-y pixel-y style recently but that is def also due to many more wonderful influences (see above!). im working towards incorporating my style into that flowey watercoloury vibe! eventually!

100%, I love them so much... I don't think I have posted about having an intense hair fetish in a second but basically, yes, same.

Also usually battle bikini type stuff doesn't do anything for me, but specifically when it comes to Camilla I love her battle panties... the armor she wears just works so well with them.

Anyway, the FEH Anniversary art of her that Maeshima Shigeki did puts so much emphasis on the crown it's incredibly good.

Man, with that last ask including Keaton, I was wondering if Meka was one of those artists who was just gonna be gone for good.

Turns out Meka drew Halloween Kellam! Which makes me really happy because I feel like Meka's an incredibly talented artist who gets overlooked because of their simpler coloring styles. And it looks like they've only improved more since their first FEH entries.

The thing that’s particularly insane about this is that someone from Intelligent Systems (Maeshima Shigeki iirc but I could be wrong) said in an interview that he was surprised that players were bothering to play through the game four whole times to see every story, saying something to the effect that “We expected players to only play it once or twice at most, and then compare notes with friends.” And once I heard that, even if it’s not true, it does make a lot of things about 3H’s writing make a lot more sense.

It’s kind of funny Three Houses has like, the perfect vehicle for time travel/loop-based angst what with there being an entire game mechanic revolving around rewinding time to avoid bad outcomes, like a character getting killed. But then the one time it gets used in the actual story, Byleth gives up after one rewind attempt, and said rewind was only to like, 5 seconds prior.
