The Battlestar Galactica Complete Series blu-ray set contains seven additional deleted scenes that are only available through the C.M.A. Colonial Military Assessment quiz on disc 5 of Season 3. You must answer the ten questions correctly in order to see one randomly selected scene. M: Got any premises on the back burner that you'd care to share?

I was working on a Haikyuu Pacrim AU (I described it in the first bullet point in this post) to submit as part of a zine application. Even though it was unfinished, I still submitted the piece. (sadly, i wasn't selected to be a writer. unsurprising, but still sad). I want to finish and post it for me to have a fic ready if I want to apply to another Haikyuu zine, but I may not continue working on it for some time because I have other priorities at the moment (like uni and volleyball).

Also Maelstrom.

N: Is there a fic you wish someone else would write (or finish) for you?

Very general, but more completely non-shippy and sfw haikyuu fics, i guess?

And also Maelstrom. As in, I would like to know what GDT's PR2 was like. Because one of my aims with Maelstrom was to put together a story that was as close as possible to what I think GDT was going for based on the info that I could find.

P: Are you what George R. R. Martin would call an "architect" or a "gardener"? (How much do you plan in advance, versus letting the story unfold as you go?)

I need solid plans, but I don't do scene-by-scene, to give an example of detail level. If I don't plan the main plot points, characters, world, etc., I probably won't finish the fic.

happy "breaching the top 10 f1 rpf pairings on ao3" day to landoscar nation 🎂 because it's all about.... two people that are so much the same yet so different. australia vs the uk. oscar's cool collected calm versus lando's ricocheting personality. twitch streams and side hustles and multiple endeavors vs singlemindedness of racing. purity of craft vs embracing everything life throws at you and trusting that it'll all work out. the rivalry that isn't (well it is, but not really). pushing each other to be better. making heart eyes in a taylor swift video, reaching out to your teammate in silverstone after surviving a media maelstrom and him being pleased and stepping closer because he's been given permission to. making fun of your resident weeb for reading the words "kit kat" but just in a japanese accent.

it's being so ridiculously competitive that you'll hide in a burning bin in the name of fun for a game with made up points and then squinting at your teammate ringed with the bright light of the sun and laughing at how stupid this all is. it's making fun of your teammate's music taste that you can hear through the thin walls of the drivers' rooms. trusting the journey. mimicking each other's body language. knowing it's for the marketing but winking at the camera together anyway, like we're all invited to be in on the joke. two parallel lives woven in two different garages with almost identical specs. being so comfortable you have this weird rapport that is kind of a cipher and unknowable to anyone outside of the immediate network or team, but it's so assured and quiet that for the first time the person who's been the person who was once the younger teammate steps up, acts older now, and becomes comfortable with the silence.

it's knowing your best friend was on their renault team and not saying anything about it in public but the motorsport world is so small and specific and the experience so surreal that surely some laylines are just strangely predestined. it's about growing up together. it's watching the brit upstart in a generation of two other brit upstarts chase his dream and give up everything to win and get velcroed to the seat because he's kind of small, just like you, but you dream bigger than anyone dares to dream and you identify with the other's self belief that says you, too, could stand on that top step one day. it's you following the little blue-suited guy racer on social media and liking sooo many of his posts over the years, and not even bothering to hide that fact when you've probably become that goalpost for someone else one day, too.

it's chapter 2, with 3 more to go. it's watching your teammate win his first sprint race and finding it in yourself to be happy for him even when you're sad that it wasn't you. it's publicly saying that the rookie is not a threat, he's a threat who makes you race better. it's making fun of newbie's first day at mclaren and finding him unknowable. and he arrives with all this hype and pressure so what can you do but focus on you and step up your game, but he's always in the background and the periphery, chasing and chasing with this hunger that is unbelievable and unfamiliar because it's always humming in a way that made you mistake stillness for idleness in the past. but now, you know: still waters run deep, so you swim harder, too. drop the dj-ing. become more disciplined. train more. do things that don't matter, less.

because the future is vast. the future is happening constantly if you're ready to meet it. and maybe destiny will be kind, and your names will be remembered. your name, inked on a trophy in the precious metal of kings, and dreamers. your name, inked in gold.

but today, you're 22. you're 24.

you're driving a car as fast as you can, and everything that's possible, feels like it could be possible, right now.

BSG rewatch notes, cont'd (spoilers, obviously):

season 3 is very, very messy, due to the constant on-the-fly story changes (big planned plots nixed, but bits and pieces of them still ending up in finished episodes; some characters yanked left and right without clear explanation - just how many positions can Helo fill in during a season of BSG? :D), and a couple of subplots fell flat this time around (Baltar's time on the basestar is too monotone and the dissolve-heavy direction is more numbing than dreamlike), but most of my favorite episodes are also from this season, so...

I love the character-centric standalone episodes, and I love the idea of showing us the daily life of the fleet from the viewpoint of the common people, or even just secondary players, instead of our main heroes, the leaders. when the writers fail with this idea, those episodes are awful (you know, The Woman King), but when they are successful, those episodes sing. Dirty Hands is a great example of this, and The Passage is tremendously effective - my only quibble is the drug runner guy, who is a walking cliché, but otherwise, this is how longer-running shows can excel at building moving character arcs for supporting characters such as Kat throughout the seasons. the last ten minutes are devastating.

you know what else is devastating? Maelstrom. I was wondering how this episode would land now, knowing where it eventually leads to with Starbuck's destiny. it's even better. there is no bait and switch that would lessen its impact, or the emotional and psychological journey of Kara: she dies, and even though she comes back, that version is her and not her at the same time, and I am very impressed how RDM and the writers were able to thread that needle. her death here still feels final, brutal, tragic, painful, but not meaningless. the writing is personal, Weddle & Thompson mining some of their childhood traumas and family issues; the acting is tender and raw - Jamie Bamber during the scene under the wings, Callum Keith Rennie's unnerving presence turning into softness, and obviously everything Katee Sackhoff does. Michael Nankin handles everything with such great care, the hallucinations never feel like cheap jump scares (when Leoben's dark silhouette flashes in the cockpit, my soul just leaves my body), the Viper scenes look and sound like nothing else before with the rain patterns, the clouds, the silence, eerie and haunting and so, so sad.

Crossroads is fun and exciting and all that, but man, it's kind of crazy that the show got away with that whole All Along the Watchtower bit. it is so silly! people hearing a song, reciting the lines from the lyrics as the earth-shattering turning point in their lives, the greatest revelation via Bob Dylan... it's really bananas.

Kyojuro Rengoku was a good student.

A great student, actually. A perfect 4.0, a member of the Student Council, and an active student leader at Kimetsu Academy. He was a model student, the ideal academic.

Kyojuro’s academic life kept him very busy. Between his hobbies, his studies, and his extracurriculars, Kyojuro had never had much time for a love life. Frankly, it had never bothered him very much- he’d never felt much attraction to any of the girls at his school, anyway. He simply didn’t have time for a love life- he had a legacy to uphold, after all. Crushes were time-consuming, so it only benefited Kyojuro that he’d never had one. He didn’t think about it much further than that- it gave him a weird feeling he wasn’t quite sure how to handle. So, Kyojuro simply ignored it. Problem for Future Rengoku, he figured.

And then, Kyojuro made a fateful mistake, one accidental decision that changed his entire life. Without meaning to, he got himself swept up in the most confusing emotional maelstrom of his entire life.

And all he did was go see the school play.

In all honesty, Kyojuro doesn’t even remember what the play was. He had only gone because one of the underclassmen he tutored, a girl named Mitsuri Kanroji, had led set design, and she had been very excited for him to see her efforts. Kyojuro had told her they were excellent, but frankly, he barely paid attention to them at all. All Kyojuro could look at was the lead male actor.

He was stunning. The way he moved with such passion, the way his eyes sparkled when he spoke, the way his deep indigo hair shone like waves of dark velvet beneath the spotlight… Kyojuro was utterly mesmerized. As soon as the man walked onstage, as soon as his first lines came from his mouth, Kyojuro couldn’t even begin to imagine paying attention to anything else. He felt like he’d been underwater all his life, and looking at this man onstage was his first breath of air. He felt like he’d die, he’d absolutely just die, there’s no way he could go on if he didn’t at LEAST learn this guy’s name.

Agdhgjx hi. So this years' hyperfixation for me is naruto time travel/self insert original characters fanfics. And about more than half of the protagonists of those stories got mindwalked/mental privacy breached by some people at least once. Gjgkrmxkrohjd what I'm trying to ask is if a person with ADHD+depression+anxiety(*hacks*me) gets... mindwalked, how different would it be??

That’s entirely up to you and how you think the entire concept would work. Like, it’s not a real thing so like... it’s really all up to the imagination really. And somewhat up to the established rules of whatever fictional universe you’re working with.

tbh naruto does a pretty shitty job of actually accounting for that kind of stuff so it’s not like there’s even a canon answer for that and some of the existing rules get broken in canon anyway (at least as far as I’ve had @cyb-by-lang explaining it.) So really, go wild. have fun.

Is-is the fanfic still ongoing???

This is kind of a tricky question for me to answer. I want to say ‘yes, absolutely!’ but I am aware that the last update was Mar 28, 2019, so it seems a little disingenuous when we’re about to hit the six month mark.

I have a lot more plotted out for this fic and there’s a lot I want to cover but it’s all dependent on having the time and energy and motivation and inspiration to write it all out. There’s been a bunch of stuff happening that’s sapped a lot of those for me, and I have been reconnecting with a bunch of other fandoms instead of just focusing solely on DoS as I did for a long time.

So, the fact is, I can’t promise anything better than long pauses like this, and I can’t promise that the fic won’t eventually go on hiatus.

But if it does end... we’ve had 150 chapters and eight years, and it’s been a fantastic time. I appreciate everyone who has been here from the start, and everyone who has only just found the fic and is experiencing it all new. You’re all great, thank you for the time and effort and support, and I hope that you’ve enjoyed the ride as much as I have.

K: What's the angstiest idea you've ever come up with?

I think it's either one of these (both are Haikyuu-Pacrim AU):

Jaeger Academy trainees Kageyama and Kindaichi are in the middle of their final Mock-Pod exam when Kindaichi decides he can't tolerate Kageyama's oppressive behaviour towards him anymore. So he just breaks out of their Drift and leaves Kageyama in the sim. Both of them fail. Kindaichi says that maybe all the Drift compatibility assessments were wrong about the two of them. This crushes Kageyama, because he's been lonely for a long time. He's never really been able to make friends, and he thought that the Drift would finally allow him to make the connection he's been longing for.

Two jaeger pilots are in a really tough battle, and it looks very much like they may not win. The dominant pilot is terrified and wants to use the escape pods, but the other refuses to give up. When the kaiju breaches the Conn-Pod, the dominant pilot panics and evacuates in his pod-but then realises the other hasn't. As he leaves the jaeger, he sees his partner looking at him in shock, feeling betrayed. The dominant pilot is rescued from the sea by helicopter pilots, and they fly away as the kaiju destroys the jaeger. None of them know whether or not the other pilot made it...

L: What's the weirdest AU you've ever come up with?

I don't think I've come up with any particularly weird AUs tbh? Maybe my ideas for Maelstrom, but that's not completely mine...

Given my recent Mass Effect brainrot, it might surprise you that I picked a Neri snippet for this week's entry. It surprised me. But I miss them. This is part of the scene where Neri reunites with Anders for the first time since he disappeared from the Wardens.

We’re alone. Andraste preserve me.

“Are you here to drag me back to the Wardens?”

No greeting, no acknowledgment of anything that once existed between us, just an accusatory question. I swallow my emotions; I barely remain upright. “I didn’t know you were here until just now.”

“Oh.”

“But I was looking for you.”

“Why?”

“Because I wanted to see you.”

“Me?” He snorts. “Or the abomination I’ve become?”

“You.” My voice cracks.

“And you think I’d believe that?”

“It’s the truth.” I attempt a casual shrug. “But I won’t push you to believe it.”

Anders gazes at me for a moment, the silence stretching onward, adding distance between us despite our lack of movement. Then his eyes flick to my right arm. “You’re bleeding.”

I glance down. “Still?”

“Shit.” He exhales heavily. “Sit down.”

There’s a small wooden stool nearby, and I take a seat to begin dismantling my armor. The undead managed to slice its weapon across the less-protected underside of my arm—I’m not sure when that happened—which explains how much I’ve bled, though I’m slightly alarmed that my arm was dripping throughout our conversation. When did the bleeding start again? Or had it never stopped? Is this why I’m feeling dizzy?

“Drink this.”

I didn’t hear Anders approach me. That’s concerning. I cautiously sniff the clay cup he offers; it smells, well, medicinal.

“It’ll help with your blood loss. You haven’t changed, have you.”

I don’t dare meet his eyes. “If I hadn’t, I wouldn’t be here accepting treatment.”

He grunts and reaches for my now-bare arm, the exposed gash angry against skin smeared crimson with blood. It’s worse than I expected. A thrill runs through my entire being when his fingertips make contact. He gently applies pressure to the wound while cleaning the skin around it with the damp cloth in his other hand. The faintest trickle of magic warmth flows from his touch; by the time he finishes cleaning my arm, the gash appears less fierce.

As I force myself to finish drinking the incredibly bitter concoction, Anders applies a poultice and wraps it with cloth to secure it in place. “Treat your arm gingerly for the next day or two. If you can.”

I finally meet his gaze, finding his eyes ringed with dark circles. “I will. I promise.”

Surprise darts across his face before wariness returns. “What will you do now?”

“Find a place to camp for the night. Unless this village has an inn of sorts?”

“The tavern keeps a few rooms. They’re less keen to take on strangers these days, though your aid to Corin on the road changes things.”

“Would you prefer that I leave the village tonight?”

A muscle flexes along his jaw. “You’re wounded and there’s undead about. Camping alone isn’t a good idea.”

He still cares enough to say that. “I’ll visit the tavern. I appreciate the advice.” I push myself to my feet with my good arm and wobble once upright, waving him away when he looks like he’s about to support me. I can’t accept that yet. Not with this maelstrom of feelings threatening to burst out of my chest.

He hands me the blood-stained pieces of armor we removed from my forearm. Great. I need to clean those the first chance I get. I nod once in gratitude and turn to the door.

“Thanks. For looking for me.”

I glance over my shoulder, unable to hide my astonishment. A new softness has eased the lines on his face. I manage a weak smile before I step outside.

Perhaps there’s still reason to hope.

Ah, ok! I've been wanting to write a PacRim sequel screenplay using as much of what's been revealed about GDT's version as I can, but I was thinking maybe another fan's already done it?

If anyone knows this has already been done, it'd be great if you could let me know!

Is Circuits & Sinew based on what's been revealed of Guillermo del Toro's version of PacRim 2?

Actually no. I came up with the idea for it way before I'd ever heard of that. Circuits & Sinew has been bouncing around in my brain since I watched the movie last summer. What happened was I watched the movie, spent a good chunk of last summer reading fanfiction, and decided “Hey, I really like this setting and characters. I should write a story about it.”   In terms of inspiration, Circuits & Sinew borrows ideas from The Black and Uprising, plus my love of the cosmic horror genre.  Although the ideas del Toro mentioned sound pretty cool, they’re most likely not going to show up in Circuits & Sinew.
