How I imagine Feanor's relationships with each of his sons
Maedhros
Given Feanor's bond with his dad, I think he tried recreate that with his firstborn but that didn't work out like he planned because unlike Finwe who's blind to Feanor's faults and Feanor who can never open up about his frustrations with Finwe, Feanor & Maedhros are both total hotheads.
However, they love each other just as fiercely. Surprisingly, both of them carry a lot of trust in each other despite their many disagreements and are comfortable being honest with each other. Maedhros will tell Feanor his opinions even if his dad won't like them.
Maedhros feels safe with his dad regardless, he knows his dad will love him even if he's disappointed in him (EX: The Ships). He became much more closed off after loosing Feanor, he can't really open up to others the same way.
Maglor
Maglor shares Finwe's passiveness when it comes to Feanor. He does not like the idea of fighting with his dad, so he rarely voices his disagreement ever, but that doesn't exactly make them closer.
The love is absolutely there but Feanor does not know Maglor like he knows Maedhros. Maglor is an Enigma, he can easily talk to Feanor for hours but Feanor thinks back on the conversation, he realizes how little Maglor told him about himself.
Unironically, the most Feanor can learn about Maglor is through his son's music. Music is Maglor's outlet, his songs are his thoughts, the sounds reflect emotions he's felt.
But overall a very chill relationship. Maglor is an obedient son, Feanor is a supportive father. Maglor holds some resentment towards his father after he lived to see everything the oath took from him, but he'd still run into Feanor's arms as if he was a boy again if they ever reunited.
Celegorm
Celegorm's resemblance to Miriel complicates everything. Feanor knows he's strong and healthy, but he's still protective of him to a fault. Celegorm hates it, he doesn't understand why he's constantly fussing over him, but he feels like Feanor treats him like a fragile doll.
Eventually he does understand it, but he's not above telling Feanor off when his dad starts panicking over every little scratch he gets.
However, while he reasonably has his boundaries, Celegorm is highly affectionate. Both his elder brothers aren't very touchy people, and Feanor, while he doesn't ask for it, is highly comforted by Celegorm affection and warmth.
I think after Celegorm joined Orome's hunt and Feanor busied himself with the younger kids, their relationship becomes much healthier.
Caranthir
Surprisingly the healthiest relationship Feanor has with any of his sons.
Caranthir is a bit of a loner, and that worries Feanor a bit. When he sees Caranthir alone, he goes to spend time with him because loneliness is something Feanor understands on a deep level.
Caranthir is the opposite of Maglor when it comes to expressing himself. He's snarky and always let's his displeasure be known, however, unlike Maedhros he usually agrees with Feanor or doesn't care so he's never really at serious odds with his dad.
Curufin
Feanor has a good relationship will all his sons but Curufin is the only one who shares interest in Feanor's first love, creating. Naturally, they're attached by the hip.
Feanor has all these hopes and dreams for Curufin, who desperately wants to please his father. Curufin isn't as good as Feanor & Feanor knows that, but he hopes Curufin will be able to get there one day.
Curufin never challenges Feanor like Maedhros does, doesn't mask his feelings in front of Feanor like Maglor does, doesn't instinctively make Feanor worry like Celegorm does, & he isn't as snarky or snappy like Caranthir is. Curufin is the perfect companion, Feanor even tells him they're a perfect pair.
And they are perfect pair, for Feanor, not for Curufin. Curufin wants to have the type of relationship with Feanor that Feanor had with Finwe, but he can't.
Finwe is the fuel that's makes Feanor's bright flame grow and grow and grow and grow until he's shines the brightest, but Feanor has become such overwhelming fire that he engulfs Curufin within him.
And Feanor can not pour all his love into just Curufin the way Finwe did to him, he loves his other sons deeply and passionately as well.
(Sorry twins, don't have enough to say right now but I might come back to you guys later)

All the brothers...
I can't grasp it well yet, but I feel like Tolkien really loved writing a dynamins between two (exactly 2) brothers, especially twins, and making them a stark contrast.
Melkor and Manwe, of course. The good Vala and the bad Vala. Both into the same woman. One is the king, the other wants to be the king. Names start with the same letter, we'll see more of it later. Good / purity vs evil.
Do the lamps count? Do the trees count? Sun and moon? Generally: silver light and golden light.
(skipping Feanor, and two other Fs, because there were 3 brothers)
Another M-pair: Maedhros and Maglor. Fire and water. Not only in their final fates, but music is of water too. (and the third Silmaril ends up free in the air)
Curufin and Celegorm, Indoors and outdoors guy, but both pretty awful. (Caranthir doesn't count, he spent less time with them)
Amrod and Amras, and of course, on twin dies, the other lives (for now). Also, again one is tied to fire and fell fate.
Huor and Hurin, extended to their sons: Tuor and Turin. One did great deeds, one was doomed. Destiny at its best and its worst.
Dior's sons, surprisingly they probably both died? But at least they were twins, so maybe I should include them.
Elrond and Elros. Twins theme at its peak. Men and Elves. Immortality and death. Fading into background and short-lived, doomed glory. Also, they tie to M&M. also, Elros's heritage dies in water, which ties him even more to Maglor. And Elrond is, surprisingly, tied to the element of air, because of his Ring.
Elrond has twins again (+Arwen) but we aren't told their fates.
Isildur and Anarion?
I probably forgot some more pairs.
Well, after I wrote it down, it's not a lot, but I still feel like it's a strong theme in the Silm. Dualities. Mostly
silver / gold and Elves/Men, I would say those map on one another and maybe West / East is also similar. Silver-elves-West and gold-Men-East
also, the lines of Numenor kings and Andunie tie to the previous one partially
One lives (at least for some time) and weeps, the other dies quickly.
some subset of Fire/Air/Water
Maybe it's just me. I was always sad as a kid that I was the only one.
Thoughts?

Fics I'd like to write when I have time (probably in like 3 months)
Dear Fellow Traveler (Silvergifting)
Pre-Annatar (or canon divergence?) 2nd age
Celebrimbor traveling and meets Sauron in disguise
Fall for each other and keep meeting up coincidentally
Kinda wanna write a smut scene in a city being sieged that they just happened to get caught in
Thinking about Good Omens, would like to give off that vibe
Maybe Celebrimbor knows who he is eventually? Idk yet
Probably ends with Annatar arriving in Eregion
Based off a song I've been obsessed with lately
Celebrimbor + the hobbits (Gen)
Maybe some Maglor content too
Possibly past silvergifting idk
Celebrimbor lives and helps rebuild The Shire in the 4th age.
I want Samwise Gamgee interacting with Tyelpe please
The hobbits giving surprisingly good relationship advice
Based off a post of mine
Scenes from a Marriage (Silvergifting)
Based off the witcher 3 hearts of stone quest of the same name
It's been a while so i don't remember much, it's been in my drafts forever
Celebrimbor lives in Mordor locked away as the ages pass with only some dark magic guardians as animals to keep him company
Sauron defeated and Gondor cleans out Mordor and find him
He speaks to them in quenya and Faramir realizes who he is
Ending 1: Takes one of their swords and kills himself after realizing Sauron is gone (out of grief and relief I guess)
Ending 2: Faramir drags him out to Elladan and Elrohir who go fetch Maglor and Elrond. No further ideas.
Glorfindel/Erestor/Ecthelion fics
Been in progress for years at this point, 2 fics (started in 2021, not even 1000 words written)
Erestor son of Caranthir with Ecthelion, #1 Caranthir hater
Yeah that just goes so well
It'll probably be in my soulmate AU
Yeah it has to be Glorfindel already loved Thel so he wouldn't be with Erestor unless they were soulmates too
Erestor gets in a predicament and Ecthelion, being noble and good, saves him despite disliking him
Cue Ecthelion hiding him away while he tries to find out why Erestor is being hunted
Cue Elrond + Glorfindel being very worried about his disappearance
Tyelcurvo + Gil/Tyelpe
Yeah this one is a bit messed up
Trans Curufin (my go to) and Celegorm together
Celebrimbor secret Tyelcurvo baby in Formenos
Curufin claims he snuck out and bribed someone to help him have a kid
Gil-galad born not long after Nargothrond, C+C went to Himring
Maedhros has him sent away to CĂrdan. C+C are furious about this. They try to go after Maedhros's people and take him back, but Maedhros refuses to let them leave.
No one alive in the 2nd age knows Gil’s parentage except Maglor, beach urchin. Who is, alas, a mourning beach urchin.
So Celebrimbor and Gil-galad fall for each other.
They have a fall out when Celebrimbor visits Lindon while Annatar is in Eregion. Gil wants him gone (Elrond and Galadriel think he’s a threat and Gil is suspicious of him) and Celebrimbor thinks he’s just jealous.
Celebrimbor lives, much to his own distress
Idk if I'll have him be super traumatized and dead inside (oh the angst) or slowly healing
Either way Gil ends up taking care of him in Lindon
They have a dream that reveals Gil’s parentage. They’re both resigned to their fate and believe they’re just going to keep making terrible decisions so why stop. They love each other and the world is so messed up anyway
Please please me send an ask if you want to hear more about one or hear a snippet from it (if I have one). I can and will chat your ear off. Assuming I'm not studying.

Parentage
When Gil-Galad was twelve he decided it was time to find out about the facts of life.
“Who's really my father?”
Maedhros looked up from the map he was studying. “Why do you ask?”
“I know Fingon’s not my father, and you know it too. So who is?”
“Unimportant.”
“My father is some random nobody?”
“Most likely, but that’s not what I meant. Who really fathered you is far less important than who people believe did so.”
“Easy for you to say.”
"Perhaps. Let me ask you, who was my father?”
“Feanor. Everybody knows that.”
“They do. You never met Feanor, but you have met Curufin, yes?”
Gil-Galad nodded warily, wondering if this would turn out to be a revelation that he was Feanorian.
“Curufin is a mirror image of his father, different in stance but not in feature. Tell me, do I have a single feature in common with Curufin?”
Gil-Galad thought for a moment. “You have the same shaped eyes?”
“As do all the rest of the Noldor.”
“Then no, I can’t think of any.”
“Precisely. I do not resemble Feanor any more than a random elf on the streets of Tirion, and a good deal less than some of them.”
Gil-Galad was frustrated. “But it doesn’t matter if you resemble him, because he really is your father. It matters that my eyes are the wrong color and my nose is the wrong shape to be Fingon’s because I am not his son!”
“You are Fingon’s son. He took you in as an infant, he claimed you as his own, he loves you, and he is raising you to lead his people after him. By that same token, I am Feanor’s son.”
“But - everyone knows you’re Feanor’s son.”
“And everyone knows you’re Fingon’s.”
“Who’s son are you then?”
“Feanor named me for my heritage, both blood and adopted. You should be able to figure it out from that.”
“Nelyafinwe...” Gil-Galad hummed under his breath. “The finwe is obliviously for King Finwe of Tirion. But nelya, three, if it’s not just an insult to Grandpa... is it for the tribe from Cuiviénen? The Sindar - or they’re Teleri across the Sea, right?”
“That’s correct.”
“Who was he? Are you related to Thingol?”
“No one you would have heard of.” Maedhros looked at Gil-Galad’s eager expression, and sighed. “His name was Penmalaclar, he was a ropemaker who would also pose for artists. Nerdanel had him model for several sculptures. She joined with him while she was engaged to Feanor, but Feanor forgave her. He knew quite well how rumors around a child’s birth can hurt them, so he told no one else, and only told me when I was old enough to understand.”
“He really didn’t tell anyone? Not even King Finwe?”
“King Finwe knew he had a grandson, who would be smart and strong, and would be raised with all the dignity of a prince of the Noldor. He had no right to, and or interest in, details about his son’s marriage bed.”
“But that means you never really should have been king in the first place! Does Grandpa know?”
“He does not. And why shouldn’t I have been king? I was raised to it, I understood it, and the people trusted me.”
“But you aren’t Finwe’s line at all!”
“I spent my life as Finwe’s beloved grandson. I learned how to listen to his people’s concerns, and how to solve them, by watching him in court. I was Duke of Formenos, and spoke on Finwe’s behalf in the remote reaches of his realm. I am a far more accurate representative of Finwe than say, Findulias, who has never met him, and whose father did so only as an infant. Is she more Finwean than I am? Is Lady Anaire?”
Gil-Galad thought about this for a moment. “So you’re part of Finwe’s line because everyone thinks you are?”
“Because everyone thinks so, and because the rest of them want me. Blood is neither necessary or sufficient to make people family. Think of how Fingon speaks of Elenwe for the first case, and Galadriel speaking of my father for the second.”
“Really no one knows though?”
“My parents know, as presumably does Penmalaclar. I told Fingon before we married, as he was worried about a marriage of half-cousins. No one else knows - not even my brothers.”
“And you don’t worry that they would love you less if they found out?” Gil-Galad asked quietly.
“They might be more annoyed at me for yielding the crown, but they’d still love me. They know I love them for who they are, not just because we’re supposed to love each other, and I know they love me the same way. Besides, Father loved me and counted me as his son, and Feanor’s word is good enough for us.”
“Will Fingon’s word be enough?”
“For some people. Most of the rest will accept his actions, that he wouldn’t have raised you as his son if it wasn’t true. There will probably be a few who spread rumors, as they do about anyone who is different. People liked to speculate that Celegorm was illegitimate or adopted, because his hair is silver and he’s not as studious. Never mind his nose and cheeks are a perfect match for Feanor, as is his ability to inspire a crowd.”
Gil-Galad considered that for a minute. “Why did Dad take me in to start with? You said that Feanor was already engaged to Nerdanel when she got pregnant with you, so Feanor would have had to give up his love as well as the strange baby. But I don’t know my mom, and Dad certainly isn’t in love with her.”
“Fingon has always wanted to have a child. He and I obviously can’t make any. When he showed up with a baby, I asked him why as well, he said you needed somewhere to go. He had a point, and another layer to the succession is probably good anyway.”
“So you really don’t know who my father is? Or my mother?”
“You are Gil-Galad son of Fingon. Whoever sired you doesn’t matter.”
“But I want to know.”
“Then you should ask Fingon. I spent the year after your birth pretending I was mad at him. If there was any coordination with your blood parents, I didn’t see it.”
“Why would you be mad at him?”
“For having a baby with someone else even though we’re married.”
“But he didn’t.”
“He wanted to keep you from the moment he saw you. If that meant the two of us had to be apart for a little while, it was worth it, for both of us.”
“Oh. Who knows about me?”
“Fingolfin knows as much as I do. I don’t know if anyone else knows at all, besides Fingon and your blood parents.”

'Penmalaclar’ translates to “man who loves gloriously” in Telerin. Inspired by my own post on my sideblog.

Height Headcanons for the Finwean siblings (+ wives because I couldn't stop myself)
for @tolkienfamilyweek day two - siblings
Note: This is meant to entertain, don't take anything said here too serious, though I will fight for my tall boy Finarfin agenda. Also if there is any form of measurements mentioned I will do the world a favour and use the metric system, sorry Americans out there
...
General order: Finarfin → Findis → Fingolfin → Lalwen = Fëanor
first off all all of them are tall by elvish standards
In FĂ«anor's humble opinion Lalwen is just the least worst sibling because they're literally the same height and he doesn't feel like she mocks him when they're standing next to eachother
Reasons why he feels the others are mocking him (even though they totally don't):
a) Finarfin and Findis are like always there when something for once is out of his reach and make the mistake of - brace yourself - offering help
b) Fingolfin is just unfortunate for being the exact same height as their father (sorry buddy but FĂ«anor has enough problems with you looking so much like dad and now you're also as tall as him. not. fair)
Off-topic but: Lalwen has the habit of just picking any of her siblings up and carrying them around if so desired, doesn't matter that they're taller than her
all of them find is kind of funny, even FĂ«anor isn't pissed because honestly he does the same thing with Nerdanel and the kids, can't blame his half sister, carrying people around is fun
honestly everyone has carried everyone over their shoulder at some point but Lalwen does it the most
Fingolfin is just like two centimetres taller than Lalwen and Fëanor in terms of actual height but his hair is just so ridiculously poofy that he seems almost as tall as Finarfin (same goes for Finwë if he isn't wearing his hair in braids)
Findis is as tall as and looks a lot like Ingwë, and while the two of them find it hilarious the royal court of Valmar (and Tirion) always has to do a double take before approaching either of them
It doesn't help that their voice range is almost the same too, yes either Findis has a very deep voice or Ingwë a surprisingly high voice
Finarfin has a hard time with about every door in Tirion due to the fact that he hits his head about everywhere he goes. Finwë had the official law for the average height of doorframes changed because of this exact reason (which proofed to be not enough once Argon had reached his full height poor guy)
honestly once he got his growth spurts he found his new personal archenemies in Tirions architecture which is exactly why he moved the Alqualondë (the Teleri have a thing for overly high doorframes and ceilings)
also Finarfin was the tallest of the Noldor until the next generation reached adulthood then he suddenly ranked fifth being the same height as his own daughter
think about it once everyone leaves he regains the title
Lalwen and Findis have the least issues with their height and Fingolfin would too if that wasn't one more thing about himself that got him hate from his older brother
FĂ«anor probably invented high heels at some point out of pure spite and because he wanted to be taller than Finarfin but was completely incapable of wearing them
he gifted the first fully functional pair to Anairë on her wedding day so that "she would at least be able to kiss her husband without having to stand on her tip toes" (he needed a wedding present ok? Nerdanel made him get one)
Speaking of AnairĂ«: the wives of the Finweans ranked by height: Nerdanel → Earwen → ElemmĂrĂ« → AnairĂ«
ElemmĂrĂ« and Findis are married I don't make the rules
Nerdanel is tall but still not as tall as her husband (their genes combined are what gets them Maedhros, all the others turned out about their own height or a bit shorter *cough* Caranthir *cough*)
Earwen certainly inherited her uncles genes which she passes down to Galadriel but sadly her mother was beyond short and so she got a good mix in between, slightly above average height
ElemmĂrĂ« is totally average in height and has a thing for tall women, good for her that Findis is, by the time they're married, the tallest woman of the Noldor
Anairë is short, like if she and Tuor would stand next to eachother he'd be slightly taller than her and that says something - she loves tall men though and with her newly acquired pair of high heels she is at least able to look her husband in the eyes
compared to a normal sized human like me they'd all be giants though. I'm talking about a more or less twenty-five centimetres difference between myself (172cm) and Anairë (ca. 197cm)

I usually subscribe to the “Gil-galad is the son of Orodreth” interpretation because that was Tolkien’s last word on the subject and it made more sense to me line-of-succession wise, but I have been warming up to the son of Fingon interpretation lately. Mostly because I like the idea of young High King Gil-galad trying to deal with the fact his dad’s best friend (who was a little intimidating looking but surprisingly good with kids) is now doing war crimes. and it’s kind of awkward for him. It would make for good bonding moments with Elrond later on too.
Plus there’s extremely depressed Maedhros being driven by the Oath to do things he’s ashamed of like kinslayings and is desperately also trying to avoid the last living remnant of his best friend, and why NOT make Maedhros’s life more miserable than it strictly has to be at this point, that’s half the fun
#silmarillion#I can't articulate WHY I think this would be funny. but I do think it is#gil-galad coming up on the ruins of sirion: what the fuck uncle maedhros

I wanna ask headcanons for sons of Feanor taking care of reader's adopted child, while reader is busy with a task.
HEADCANONS FOR FEANORIANS TAKING CARE OF YOUR CHILDÂ
Hi! Thanks for your request Anon, I just finished writing this, hope you like it đź’–
House of Fingolfin đź’•
House of Finarfin đź’•
❣️Maedhros
Maedhros is the eldest of 7 brothers with fiery personalities, so when taking care of your child he will know how to do it. He is actually very experienced at it
He knows the only thing he need to do is to keep entertained your child while you work, so he will take him outside, as he usually did with his brothers
Maedhros will take them to the royal gardens, a place full of security for your child  and a place where he or she can have fun and fresh air, and the best of all they can explore around
When your kid gets hungry a picnic will be placed immediately, full of delicious food, but Maedhros will be careful on what your child is eating, he know some food can increase energy levels, and he has learned that with his brothers
Maedhros will play with your child, rather it be hide and seek or tag, and he will let them win of course. It’s actually really fun to play hide and seek with Maedhros cause you will se a massive elf hiding behind a tree, your kid will laugh a lot with him
❣️Maglor
Maglor also know how to take care of your child, he spent many time with Maedhros taking care of the younger ones
I bet Maglor will entertain them mainly with music cause it’s what he is best at, he will sing for them and also play his harp for them, and your kid will enjoy to hear Maglor’s melodious voice as everyone does
Your child would likely dance and sing alongside him until they both get tired of it
If your child knows or wants to play an instrument Maglor will burrow to him or her his own instruments, and will listen to them, even if they are not good as him, he is content listening to them
Maglor will also read stories to them, but he will change the characters or the events so the story is even more entertaining, you will find them cuddled up reading a book that’s for sure
❣️Celegorm
Celegorm is not so experienced about taking care of kids, but he likes kids, so that will actually help him in his task, and he will be more excited if your child like to be outside
I bet he will take your child horse riding if he or she is old enough to ride a horse, and if your child doesn’t know how to ride one he will teach them.
He will entertain them outside rather than inside, I believe he will take your child to explore, not too far away, probably just a small clearing on the forest or a lake
Expect Huan to be around your kid, Huan is a huge dog who loves being petted so your child will be content to pet him for a while
Your kid will not feel sad if you are not with him or her cause Celegorm will keep them thrilled with everything new he show to them
Celegorm and your child will be very tired at the end of the day so you will probably find them asleep when you come back
❣️Caranthir
He has not much experience with kids, but he is really good when it comes to take care of them, even if he thinks he is gonna scare them out
Surprisingly your child takes a like to Caranthir probably because of his calm and peaceful nature, even though he looks intimidating for other people, he also has a soft side
At first he doesn’t know what to do but he remembered the time when he was also a kid and what he used to do during that time, so he will show to your kid his old toys
Besides he has no problem on playing with them, make a tower with blocks? it’s alright, a tea party? He is also in
Your kid will spend a great day with Caranthir cause he is so soft and calm around him or her, they will grow fond of him, expect your kid to ask you for extra time when you are back from your task Â
❣️Curufin
Curufin does like children, so when it comes to take care of yours he will be enchanted, he will take it as an opportunity to get to know your child better
Curufin will choose an activity both your child and him will enjoy and rather bond with him or her
If your kid is interested in jewels or on the forges it’s his or her lucky day cause Curufin will take them there on a tour, and he will also show them things he have crafted and probably gift something to them
Curufin will tell your child a lot of funny stories about his childhood and about his brothers that will probably make your child laugh, he like to see your child is happy
He will also listen to them attentively and what they want to say, when you come back you will probably find both of them talking and conversing since Curufin is a great company to spend the day and have a conversation
❣️Amras
Amras is the littlest of his family alongside Amrod, so he was rather taken care of than him taking care of someone, but he is pretty enthusiast to spend time with your child
Amras doesn’t know what to do to entertain your child until “food” comes to his mind, I think he will give your kiddo a bunch of delicious candy and he will sit alongside him or her to eat them
They both will have a burst of energy, so they will probably start playing wrestling or having a tickle war, of course he will let your child win
Amras is a child on the inside so he will play to whatever your child wants, he secretly misses the time when he was little, so he will spend a grandiose time with your kid
He will also love to give your child a piggy back ride around the castle, he wants your child to see where he lives and he wants to hear what your child likes and dislikes
❣️Amrod
Amrod much like his twin doesn’t have any experience on taking care of a child but he is animated to do it, so he will do it well thanks to his disposition
Amrod has at first no idea what to do, so he probably asks your child what they want to do, he will follow them anywhere they want to go and will do what they want to do
I think that one of the activities Amrod will like to do with your child is to do a pillow and blanket fort and hide inside, Amrod likes to play with imagination so your child and him will pretend a dragon is outside their secret shelter or something like that
Playing any board game is also included on the activities, playing board games with Amrod can get pretty fun
I also think Amrod will take your child to stargaze outside and will show them the special constellations formed on the sky, your child will spend a great time with him

Author Interview: Victoryindeath2 (by Mythopoeia
Thank you @abadpoetwithdreams! I hope you don't regret the last question you asked :D
1. You are responsible for creating the characters of Frog and Sticks! What canon Silm event are you most excited to see from their child perspectives?
Soooo many things—but I am interested to see how they will feel when Mae is back on his feet, a warrior more deadly with his left than he even was with his right, the sort of man who can in canon create the Union of Maedhros. The children have seen Maedhros at his lowest, seen him tormented and crushed into the earth in the cruelest of ways. They also saw how he could be his best even when there was no hope or light for him—he protected them and was kind to them and loved them. I am just interested to see how other men’s and women’s opinions might change as Maedhros moves into the next phase of his life, and how the children will, in some ways, always see Maedhros as their Russandol.
Sticks: yeah I knew he was cool before you all realized it
Frog: *drops a rock in Mae’s left hand and curls up in his lap* tell me and my pet rock a story Mae
Mae: I actually have leadership things to do....
Sticks: you owe us for all the stories you didn’t tell us back in the Bad Place
Mae: *tells them a story and Fingon finds the kids sleeping under Mae’s arms twenty minutes later*
(There is also a non-canon event sometime in the future that I want so VERY badly but guess I can’t say because of spoilers *sighs*)
2. We often joke about how this AU is basically our own crazy version of a Silm tv series. What are some of favourite moments in the series so far that stand out to you as particularly cinematic?
There are so many moments, some of the wondrous and stunning variety, and some of the quiet and beautiful....but here are a few that leapt right to my mind:
a. Maedhros and Fingon parting the last time before Feanor divided the families almost forever! Maedhros with his hair in the sunlight on his horse and the line, “see you on the other side, cano!”
b. Gosh DARN it Mae on the cliff, with Morgoth offering him the chance to leap to his death, and he doesn’t take it *cries*
c. FINGON’S CHILD OF THE WOLF MOMENT WHERE HE TAKES MAIRON OUT (ALSO RIGHT BEFORE WHEN MAE GRABS AT HIS ANKLE AND TRIES TO GET FINGON TO SAVE HIMSELF)
d. Maedhros riding into the thrall camp and basically falling into Gwindor and SLINGING AN ARM AROUND HIS NECK YES HUGS ALL AROUND YESSSS
e. Look Ceili fic I know we talk about it all the time but I am here to talk about it again, especially the moment where Mae pulls Caranthir out on the dance floor and then they all dance together and everyone ends up in a pile on the floor except for Mae who just stands over them all laughing I think doubled over and there is so much good energy in that scene I NEED IT ON SCREEN
f. Personally I like to think that Celegorm stalking his way into a club in New York City and beating the living daylights out of Eol was cinematic
g. Maedhros having successfully argued Huan’s way into the journey west, stumbling all tired like up to the stairs, and meeting Nerdanel there, and resting his head on his mom’s neck. The darling tol bby
h. MAE ATTACKING ULFANG FOR THE SAKE OF HIS BROS, GOING FROM DEPRESSED BROKEN BABY WHO HAS LOST ALL HOPE TO DEPRESSED BROKEN BABY WHO HAS LOST ALL HOPE BUT STILL WILL FIGHT FOR HIS BROS
i. Bby Mae lying on Feanor’s chest ;;;;;;;;;;; before Feanor became the worst
j. Can’t even remember what fic it was at this point but there is a dream? Mae has? Of like....the sea and red sun or something? It was a lot
k. There are many many more moments and I am mad that I can’t remember the one that stood out to me recently
l. ..........the whole fic Seven Card Stud
m. MOONLIGHT GUNSLINGER MAE AND HOW HE TOTALLY OUTCLASSED MAIRON
n. Every hug and brotp and found family moment ever. I have addictions and there is never enough of what I want on screen
o. THERE ARE MORE SPECIFIC ONES BUT I HAVE TO STOP AT SOME POINT DON’T I
3. Walk me through what an ideal day would look like for Caranthir?
The MOST ideal day would be Caranthir waking up in his little closet bedroom in Formenos and realizing he just had a horrible nightmare, and also realizing that he still has his mom and ALL of his brothers. And then at the breakfast table Feanor says something like “wow I’ve been stupid in a good many ways, and a rotten dad because of that, good thing I have recognized my flaws and shall now be a better person, also Mae you can stop going to live in the city if you want, just stay here with your brothers. Also you know, Caranthir, even though you’re still my least favorite child, I’m proud of you. And not just because these are the best pancakes I have ever tasted.”
Then Caranthir probably helps his mom in the garden, gets some quality one on one time with Mae when Mae helps him make a pie, Mae reminds him how special and good he thinks Caranthir is, and Celegorm and Curufin ask Caranthir to join them for fishing. Not that Caranthir necessarily wants to do that, but he does want to be asked. Then Amras and Amrod ask him to help them with sums, so that he feels like a helpful big brother, and without being asked, Maglor takes out his fiddle and plays the slow-moving, peaceful song that Caranthir loves and Maglor despises because it is not challenging enough
4. What is a character POV you have not written yet about but would like to?
I would like to write something from Maeglin’s POV—I feel a powerful urge to protect that lost boy. He’s had an odd and often terrifying life and he needs a break. Good grief imagine having a mom like his mom, imagine Morgoth commanding you to call him uncle. Ew. Anyway, he’s exactly the sort of character I usually adopt as my son. An angsty sad boy without much future, who needs LOVE
5. If you could recommend only one fic from each author (including yourself, of course) what would they be?
HOW TO PICK?!
TolkienGirl: wayyyyy too many to really choose from but I have to go back to the beginning and say “news, breaking” because of the way it introduces my Feanorian boys, and also because of Mae wearing a flowered apron one minute and then a half open leather vest the next, with his glorious hair tied back!
Mythopoeia: I feel like I have to say “those gathered beneath” because it was so DEFINITIVE of our favorite Irish family, and also Turgon is a great narrator (but since I always talk about this fic I shall also add another, lesser known perhaps: “save ourselves unaided” because it introduces Haleth and more people need to appreciate Haleth and Mythopoeia’s Haleth is SO GOOD)
Victoryindeath2: “a certain slant of light (where the meanings are)” because it was my first Caranthir fic, and so it holds a special place in my heart
Bonus Q: The Feanorians are now a KPop group. What are their hair colors and roles?
THE WAY I CHOKED ON MY LAUGHTER WHEN I FIRST READ THIS QUESTION
I ALSO GOT WAY TOO CAUGHT UP IN THIS SO IF YOU ARE AN AU READER WHO DOESN’T CARE ABOUT KPOP IN ANY WAY YOU CAN STOP HERE, I WON’T BE MAD. On the other hand I think I have really good answers so maybe you should continue lol
Maedhros: He has to be a coppery red-head, doesn’t he? Maybe something of the red color that you once told me you wanted Heeseung to try. He would make a great leader, but ALSO. Also I think that he has had enough stress in canon in and in our AU, so I really just want to give him the opportunity to be merely the eldest hyung, who everyone goes to for comfort, for hugs and advice, and who supports the leader quietly. He is a good vocalist and can maybe rap in a pinch? but we put so much emphasis on him as a dancer that he HAS to be the dance leader. Obviously. Is widely acknowledged as the visual of the group
Maglor: Longish black hair, maybe midnight blue or deep purple. Has tried several different hairstyles and regretted half of them. He claims a specific aesthetic in hair and dress is necessary for him to compose the group’s songs, and while he gets teased by everyone for this he also writes amazing music so? It works? Is definitely a vocalist. His vlives consist of him playing every instrument known to man, and half the time Mae is sitting in the background listening with an awed expression on his face—till he falls asleep. Maglor can’t decide if he is pleased by this or insulted
Celegorm: Usually rocks blond or silver hair, but one time some fool insulted Amrod’s pink hair and the next thing you know Celegorm had pink hair for three months. Probably disparaged Maglor’s mullet phase but tried it once himself as a penalty for a game in a Run Feanorian episode and kinda thought it wasn’t half bad.
Celegorm is the “I don’t follow what the company says” member, “screw the rules if they aren’t good for my fam.” He is also a sick rapper and his diss tracks and mixtapes are things of beauty. He also clearly frequents the gym and will toss an annoyed member—most likely Maglor, but sometimes Curufin—over his shoulder any chance he can get. Has definitely done pushups with Amrod or Amras on his back. He and Mae swept the ISAC games
Caranthir: Typically goes with brown/black hair, which only throws the fandom into more of an uproar when the rare occasion arises in which he actually dyes it some other color. Probably went mint for a music video and Curufin started calling him mint choco boy, which offends him deeply as he is (sadly) on the side of “mint chocolate ice cream tastes like toothpaste.” He’s a vocalist with a rougher voice that is surprisingly pleasing to listen too.
Speaking of surprises, Caranthir never quite understands his own popularity. He didn’t like to do vlives by himself for ages, until Mae encouraged him to do cooking and baking vlives, and now he does one once a month on a schedule. Fans are putting together a book of his recipes
Curufin: He does intense and striking hairstyles and colors, and is probably the most likely to do black hair streaked through with red, teal, green, gold, white, etc. He claims to be the visual of the group and Mae is the one member who always agrees with him. I’d say he is also a dancer, one almost as good as Mae but with a different style, and he has a quick and sharp rap. He is heavily involved in the production of their songs over time.
Here is the thing though—I think, in this better non-canon non-Gold Rush AU universe, that Curufin could be the leader. See, Feanor is not gonna be the company CEO loll. Fingolfin is. And Fingolfin mentors better than Feanor EVER could. And Curufin is a sharp lad, very smart and crafty, and if he could just be convinced to care about all his brothers/group members like he does about himself and Celegorm in the AU, and if he just has proper guidance, allowing Mae to assist him in struggles, going to him for support, I think he would be an excellent leader
Ambarussa: Amras and Amrod have tried every color and color combination under the SUN, and they often coordinate with each other either to match or complement. Amras sometimes gets tired of this, preferring to stick to the general group color scheme, and when that happens Amrod just says fine be like that and goes off and does his own thing. Sooner or later though, Amras always gives in and joins him once again.
The twins obviously have all their hyungs wrapped around their little fingers, even Maglor who is driven insane by them crashing into his room shrieking and giggling when he is trying to write music or run a very serious vlive. As far as their musical talents go, I love when maknaes are ridiculously well-rounded, and these are Feanorian maknaes, so I’m gonna say they can both dance, sing, and rap. People have placed bets on whether they will grow as tall as Mae (spoilers, they won’t, no one ever will, he’s the tallest in Kpop world)
Huan: is the team mascot, and lives in their large dorm with them because Celegorm said so
Anddd that’s all folks

Fic Writer Tag Game
@arofili tagged me. Thank you so much <3 I loved writing this and spent way too much time on it :D
AO3 name: HewerOfCaves
Fandoms: Silmarillion, but HewerOfCaves is actually my 4th reincarnation on Ao3, the other three were for other fandoms.
Number of fics: 27 under this username
Fic I spent the most time on: Has to be Sins of the Father, I spent months on it. Though when/if I post a couple of fics I’m working on, they will break the record :/
Fic I spent the least time on: Well, I have two triple drabble fics, so probably those. Light In Their Eyes, Blood On Their Lips (Russingon, sorry, I suck at titles) and Black Horse (tw: cannibalism). If drabbles don’t count, then it’s Your Name and Only a Fool Would Wear a Crown. I just was struck by the idea, quickly wrote it down and posted it. The best feeling until you start thinking that it’s rubbish.
Longest fic: For the World’s End (6055 words). It’s also the first fic I wrote for this fandom.
Shortest fic: Red and White (89 words). It’s a poem written for the Ambarussa day of last year’s Fëanorian week.
Most hits: For the World’s End again. 800 hits at this moment.
Most kudos: And again it’s For the World’s End. 111 kudos at this moment. I guess people like reembodied angsty Maedhros.
Most comment threads: It’s Light’s Out of Sight, part 2 of my Fingon stays alive canon divergence AU. 16 comment threads.
Most bookmarks: To no one’s surprise, it’s For the World’s End. 22 bookmarks.
Total word count: It’s just 41.400. If I counted my fics for other fandoms, it would probably be over 250.000, but I have no desire to go back and check, sorry.
Favourite fic I wrote: This is hard! Do I have to choose one? No, I don’t. I’ll choose three. I’m gonna say:
- Bricks, it’s a kid fic about Caranthir and Turgon, written for the Caranthir day of last year’s Fëanorian week. I started writing it as soon as I saw the announcement for the Fëanorian week in January 2019. I’m very fond of it.
- Bitter, it’s a surprisingly fluffy fic about three times Maedhros and Fingon had dinner together.
- Jester, written for the Maedhros day of last year’s FĂ«anorian week and B2MeM 2019. Maedhros talks with Maglor and Fingon after the deaths of their respective fathers.Â
Special mention to Tale of Wanderer, which is a poem. I’m definitely not a poet, so I surprised myself by making it as long as it is. Written for the Maglor day of last year’s Fëanorian week and B2MeM 2019. That was a good week for me as a writer. A good month really. I wish I could say the same for this year.
Fic you want to rewrite/expand on: Well, I do want to write more for my Fingon stays alive canon divergence AU series, which still doesn’t have a proper name. I have posted three parts and I have ideas for others. I just have to write them. Yeah.Â
There’s also We Live a Lie, which is honestly more of an idea than a real fic about Arda Remade without Indis’s descendants. I probably won’t expand on it, but @venwe did. Check out her Lands Beyond, where Maedhros realizes that something’s wrong with their perfect world.Â
I’d love to expand this snippet, a canon divergence AU, where Finwë stays in Tirion instead of going to Formenos with Fëanor, but I most likely won’t.
Share a bit of a WIP or a story idea you’re planning on: I have a few. First of all, the aforementioned canon divergence AU, which I have ideas for but not even a word written.
Something about Fingon and the children of Finarfin after the First Kinslaying. Not a word written.
I also want to write something about Finarfin. I have exactly two sentences written for it and it’s about Fingolfin :D
“Too much of a Noldo, that one,” Ingwion said after retreating NolofinwĂ«. ArafinwĂ« never forgot that.  Â
A fic about Celebrimbor visiting his uncles pre-Sirion. It was supposed to be a Third Kinslaying fix-it, but it’s going to be canon-compliant. There’s no fixing the Third Kinslaying :/ Here’s a bit from it:Â
“What about the King? Fingon. What about him? What would he think?”
“Tyelpë, that is enough,” Maglor said sharply.
Celebrimbor knew he was crossing a line, but he was ready for the consequences, he would bear them if it meant stopping the massacre.Â
“Do you ever think about it, Lord Maedhros?” he asked. “Do you ever wonder what King Fingon would do? Do you ever think if he would regret saving you?”Â
Maedhros looked at him. The flames were gone from his eyes. They were dark as a starless night.Â
“The King is dead,” he said. The strength of his words broke over Celebrimbor, and he was almost knocked down by a wave of grief. “You cannot change anything, Tyelpë. It will be done.”
And a Maedhros on Thangorodrim fic, which I have been writing for almost a year? Maybe more? God, I’m slow. An excerpt from that fic (mention of injuries and hanging from a mountain):
Maedhros jolted and drew back. His legs folded, his feet trying and failing to find leverage. The rock behind him, sharp as broken glass, cut into wounds still unhealed.
“The elf saw a great rider on a silver steed, and he was afraid and yet drawn to him for he could perceive his immense power. But he needed not be afraid for the rider was not evil and his power was of light. Do you know who the rider was, Nelyo?”
Was he losing his mind? He looked around, searching for the speaker, as if it was possible that he could be here, somewhere on this mountain.
“Nelyo? Do you know who he was?” asked his grandfather Finwë’s voice.
“Oromë,” Maedhros croaked. His throat was parched. He wondered when it would rain again.
“Yes, it was Lord Oromë. Very good, Nelyo.”
A familiar gentle hand caressed his head. Maedhros leaned into it without thinking. If he closed his eyes, he could almost believe that he was in his grandfather’s arms, in his palace in Tirion. If he tried really hard, he could feel the golden warmth of the waning Laurelin on his hair, as he listened with rapture to the stories he knew by heart. He could hear his grandfather’s slow and steady heartbeat as clearly as he had ages ago, when he had been a child, Finwë’s only grandchild for a while. He used to put his ear over his grandfather’s chest and let the comforting thud lull him to sleep. He had been so content, basking in Finwë’s undivided attention.
If you’ve read up to here, thank you so much. I’m tagging @calendille, @amethysttribble, @venwe, @avantegarda. I have more writer mutuals, but I’m too shy to tag them, so if any of you guys sees this, know that I thought about you and consider yourselves tagged. Seriously, I checked my Following list, but I’m just very socially awkward even online.Â

feanorian fashion headcanons
Look, tumblr’s not up to much these days, so I’m just going to spend all my time writing down nonsense headcanons because of reasons.
Inspired by this excellent post from @senalishia
Maedhros tends to dress up due to being the oldest kid and having Standards. Wears red a lot even though it clashes horribly with his hair. Is good-looking enough to pull this off, somehow.
Maglor’s wardrobe has exactly two (2) settings: Old Bathrobe Covered in Ink Stains and Very Fancy Evening Clothes. Wears both of these on completely inappropriate occasions because he never knows what damn time it is. All his shoes are sandals.
Celegorm is a Freakin Nudist and would be perfectly happy running around in the woods constantly with 0 clothes on. When he does bother to get dressed, he mainly wears hunting boots and things made out of the skins of whatever animals he’s killed. Cologne of choice: Wet Dog.
Caranthir is surprisingly chic for such an angry nerd. Wears a lot of dark colors and impeccably tailored jackets because he is a Businessman. Trades in flashy jewelry but doesn’t wear much of it. Also has knitted his brothers and himself a lot of fabulous scarves.
Curufin, like his father before him, pretty much lives in work clothes. Wears a leather apron for 90% of his waking hours. His idea of formal wear is to put on a fancy necklace over the apron. (Between them, he and Feanor made leather aprons a fashion trend briefly)
Amrod and Amras have surprisingly different fashion senses; Amras likes dressing up and wearing bright colors sometimes, where as Amrod pretty much throws on whatever’s clean and within arm’s reach. However, if they’re going anyplace where there’ll be a lot of people who don’t know them and can’t tell them apart, they will dress exactly alike to confuse everyone. This is because they are Little Shits.
#sons of feanor#silmarillion#maedhros#maglor#celegorm#caranthir#curufin#amrod#amras#tolkien#fashion#celegorm absolutely refuses to wear a shirt this is canon

Best Served Cold - Chapter 2
Celegorm and Curufin are the last FĂ«anorians left alive, not Maedhros and Maglor. This has consequences.
Warning for descriptions of the aftermath of a massacre
-
Outside the quiet sanctuary of the room, the city is in chaos. Elrond can hear screaming, and can see smoke, and smell an awful stench he remembers from when he caught his hair on a candle, as well as what he dimly thinks might be burning flesh. There are people constantly running past, and Celegorm barks orders to several breathless elves who come up behind them to ask questions.
“It’s almost over,” Curufin says, dispassionately, and Elrond can still hear Elros crying quietly nearby and distantly realises that he is crying too.
He looks around as much as possible, taking in what he knows must be the last sights of his home. Even in his numb state, what he sees is shocking. There are bodies everywhere, lying unmoving and bloody. Stalking between them, feasting is a pack of the largest dogs Elrond has ever seen.
One of them trots up to present an unrecognisable scrap of flesh to Celegorm, who crouches down, Elros still on his shoulder, to enthusiastically pet the dog and congratulate it on its prize.
He gasps in horror as he realises it is a hand. Abruptly, his head is covered by something, and he realises Curufin has tossed his cloak over his head.
“Turco,” Curufin says, “we don’t want them traumatised any more than they have to be. Cover his head.”
Elrond is more grateful than he should be.
“Hadn’t thought about that,” says Celegorm, and Elros’ sobs are abruptly muffled. “Guess we’re a bit desensitised to this stuff now, huh?”
Elrond can see nothing now, but he is glad for it, for his other senses still work and he knows he does not want to witness the things he hears. There is still the occasional clash of swords, but mostly there is only the screams of the dying, and the sound of those awful dogs enjoying their meal. Above them, he can hear the mews of seagulls that he and Elros feed by the harbour, and he sniffles as he realises they never will again.
They are moving out of the city, Elrond thinks, and is proven right when he is set down and his makeshift blindfold is removed and they are some way away from the gates, on the grassy cliff overlooking the harbour where he and Elros liked to play occasionally.
There is thick black smoke billowing from the harbour below, and Elrond realises with a jolt that they must have burnt the ships to prevent anyone from escaping. The numbness is receding now, and the abrupt rush of emotion makes him wish for it back.
“Elrond!” Elros cries, immediately running for him once out of Celegorm’s grasp. He is grabbed instantly by the back of his tunic.
“Don’t even think about running off,” Celegorm says, smiling. “Be good, and I won’t have to hunt you down.”
Elros is dropped and seconds later, Elrond is embraced tightly. He hugs back, closing his eyes with relief. Mother may have jumped, Father may have left, but he still has Elros.
Curufin’s voice interrupts them. “If you can walk, and keep up, we will not carry you. If you cannot keep up, we will carry you again.”
Elros looks stricken at the thought of being lifted by Celegorm again, and Elrond is glad that he seemed to have the nicer of the pair.
Elrond grabs Elros’ hand tightly, and they set off after the retreating brothers. Elrond does not want to become food for Celegorm’s dogs.
The brothers approach a pyre set up on the clifftop with two bodies lying on top of it. Elrond is too small to view them, but he can see Curufin bury his face in his hands and Celegorm pull him into a hug, resting his chin on top of Curufin’s head. They are saying something again in the language that Elrond doesn’t know, and he feels a curiosity completely inappropriate to the current situation about it.
Elrond is surprised as Curufin breaks the hug and motions them over, lifting him and Elros up in turn so they can see. The elves on the pyre are red haired, like no elf Elrond has ever seen before, and their identical faces are unexpectedly peaceful. Below the neck they are covered by what must have been their cloaks and Elrond is glad for it, for they are stained dark with blood.
“They are our brothers,” Curufin says, and his voice is heavy with grief but it does not waver. “These are the fourth and fifth of our brothers to die, and now we are all that is left.”
“Is that why you’re stealing us?” Elros asks, always braver than Elrond. He keeps glancing nervously up at Celegorm, and gravitates more to the so far kinder Curufin.
“No,” Curufin says, surprised. “Why would we want you for that? Our brothers are irreplaceable and you will never be them.”
Celegorm nods in agreement. “It would be an insult to their memory to replace them with you.” He looks down at them. “You’re hostages that we plan to treat as though you were made of glass, and perhaps we’ll raise you properly. But don’t ever think you’ll be family like they were.”
Elrond swallows, then surprises himself by asking, “What were their names?”
Celegorm and Curufin exchange a glance, then Celegorm shrugs and calls over a waiting elf with a torch. He motions them to step back, before setting the flame to the pyre. As they watch the flames begin to lick at the bodies, the smoke joining the plume from the harbour, Elrond hears Curufin speak quietly.
“They were Ambarussa.”
-
By the time the pyre burns down, the remains of the FĂ«anorian host have assembled, and are ready to depart.
“We make for Amon Ereb,” Curufin says, before unceremoniously bundling Elrond in front of him on his horse. Elros is grabbed and hoisted up in front of Celegorm, whose horse has no saddle and no reins.
“You better hold on properly to me, kid,” Celegorm says. “She knows where she’s going, but she won’t particularly care if you get there with her.”
Elros nods shakily and grips tightly to the arm around his waist. They have never really been on horseback before. They have lived in the city their entire lives. Elrond immediately decides that he doesn’t like it. The rolling gait is like being on a ship, but without the option of standing and stretching properly.
They ride until the sun begins to set, and then stop to make camp. Elrond is surprised at the quick efficiency of the army, as there are soon many tents set up from the baggage train of sturdy horses.
Celegorm whistles for his pack of dogs and they come instantly, barking excitedly, milling around him in anticipation. He waves to Curufin, then disappears into the darkness for an hour or so before returning with several fat birds and two rabbits. He passes out his prizes to several nearby elves, saving a plump bird that Elrond does not know the name of for their own fire.
Celegorm immediately sets to quickly and professionally dressing and plucking his kill. He banters lightly back and forth with Curufin in the other language while he does it. Next to Elrond, Elros nudges him.
“Hey,” he says, in a hushed voice. “I don’t think they’re paying attention to us now.”
Elrond eyes the pair. “No, I don’t think they are. But we can’t run.”
“That’d be stupid, those dogs would have us in seconds,” Elros replies, and Elrond is relieved that he’s not trying anything stupid. “But that’s not what I want to talk about. I’m scared, Elrond.”
Elrond grabs Elros’ hand. “Don’t worry, if they haven’t killed us yet, I don’t think they will.”
Elros shakes his head. “That’s not what I’m scared about!”
He looks over at Celegorm, who is now enthusiastically rubbing some sort of herb on the plucked bird. “Remember what Mama told us?” he asks. “About the monster with silver hair?”
Elrond did remember. Mother had told them of the monster, more animal than elf, that had killed her family and forced her to flee to Sirion, where she had met their father. She was always really worried about them leaving her side, and almost never let them play alone for fear that the monster would snatch them.
“What does that have to do with anything?” Elrond asks, but in the pit of his stomach he knows.
“I think it’s him!” Elros hisses. “I’ve been so scared and it’s all I can think about. Mama is- is gone and the monster came for us!”
The sound of laughter shocks the pair of them apart, looking across guiltily at Celegorm, the source.
He grins widely. “So, that’s what she told you?” Next to him, Curufin is scribbling busily on a parchment, and doesn’t even look up. “She said I was a monster, that I’d do... what?”
Elrond swallows. “Sh-She said that if we went wandering off you’d track us down and probably kill and maybe eat us.”
Celegorm’s smile widens, and Elrond is reminded of the sharks that the fishermen sometimes would return with in the markets of Sirion. “I wouldn’t be tempted by such skinny kids anyway. And you’d give little sport, too slow to run from me.”
Elrond presses closer to Elros, who loops an arm around him protectively. Elros has always been braver when Elrond needs comfort too. Elrond remembers how frantic their mother had been when news of the approaching army. They had wanted to go and play by the waterfall that morning, but Mother had made them stay inside instead. He wonders now if it was because she knew Celegorm was coming.
“But then,” Celegorm continues, “perhaps I could make some new hair ornaments from your bones. Your fingers look like they’d be delica- ow!!”
Curufin elbows him without even looking up. “Stop scaring them. I know you think it’s hilarious, but I need them only mildly traumatised, not screaming and refusing to go near you.”
Celegorm grins, unrepentant. “You kids want some food?”
Elrond is suddenly so hungry that he has second helpings of the surprisingly delicious meat. The dogs are quiet around them now, and despite knowing that he should not be, Elrond finds himself boneless and sleepy. The exhaustion of the day is catching up with him, and Elros too judging by the yawns. They fall asleep curled together near the fire, and do not even stir as Curufin lays his cloak over them.
-
This isn’t going to be like all the fluffy dysfunctional family M+M+E+E fics. There will definitely be fluffier moments to come, but the twins seeing the aftermath of the kinslaying and also being told scary stories about Celegorm (the terror of Dior’s line) means that they will be slow to trust.

siadea replied to your post “Gawd, the more I think about it, the more Turgon/Huor makes a lot of...”
The obvious solution is that Huor is the kinky one.
... you are correct.  And the notion of slightly gawky late-teens Huor, plus Turgon kind of smilingly going “Sure, I’ll fulfill your kink, kid,” equals a surprisingly tender and not-too-role-oriented series of encounters, well that’s ... there is no other word for it than cute.
But the question is what Huor is into.  (If it’s the lord/vassal kink I have somehow worn myself a groove for, that reflects poorly on his covering for Turgon’s retreat from the Nirnaeth, and I will not poison that lest the Turgon in my brain kill me from the inside, so it’s gotta be something else.)  I kinda want to go with something super weird?  Because merciless ribbing from Hurin seems required here.
(In the interests of full disclosure, other things I woke up lowkey wanting to write include 1.) the non-canon-compliant alternate ending to 5YIM, because as Saeros grew in the writing I went from “I have to keep Melian from realizing the potential advantages of this situation” to “even if she does, Saeros will 100% steal Tyelpe”; 2.) a Mandos fic about Miriel and Maedhros that posits her as an ace character who has found an unusual way of coping with a society in which LaCE is presented as the ideal; and 3.) a one-shot about how Sauron feels about the obviously canon species-wide elvish hair kink, with bad times feat. Feanorians.)
(I bought new sheets yesterday, because those cheap clearance microfiber ones that seemed like such a good idea at the time are Not the Best Idea in a humid Southern April, and apparently they are v. inspiring sheets.)
(Or I’m avoiding thinking about my life.  One of those.)

FĂ«anorians and voices (or something)
Maedhros is your golden child, immensely helpful and polite; but will passive-agressively piss you off with snide comments and hidden smirks if you provoke him, until you lose your temper and yell at him. At which point he will smike politely and ask “what’s the matter” and propose you solve this dispute like adults; while doing his best to drive you up the wall. His voice is irritatingly calm and smooth, and takes a condescending tone as he asks you what he did wrong. It’s silk and rich and strategically changes to get what he wants. Words are weapons, and Maedhros knows how to use them. (Granted, if you pissed Mae off, you probably deserve this)
Maglor is the one who uses all the difficult words no one knows what they mean, or are so rarely used that you have forgotten they existed. Sometimes he rhymes when he talks, completely by accident, or gets lost in the middle of his speech because he lost his train of thought. His thoughts travel twice as fast as his voice, and his words mingle together in an attempt to catch up. His voice is the most dangerous weapon he yields, and even though he does not talk a lot, he can and will verbaly berate you down the abyss if provoked. When he’s 100% serious about giving speeches, everyone hangs from his lips and rarely anyone disagrees with him
Celegorm is loud with every meaning of the word. He is the guy that somehow always talks over others by accident, because he doesn’t realize how loud he’s being. He makes you wish there was a volume button so you could turn it down and save your ears. He yells even louder when he’s arguing, and he tries to keep his voice level because he know that being loud does not equal being right. When he’s really pissed however, his voice goes dangerously low and that’s when you run for your life. He has a habit of trailing off at the end of his sentence, as if he forgets that he’s saying the words out loud for someone else’s sake. Over the years, his brothers have developped a sixth sense and understand what he was going to say. He also has a very short attention span, and unless really interested in the conversation, something is bound to catch his attention and he will abandon you mid-sentence.
Caranthir is quiet and his neutral expression gives you the impression that he wants to murder everyone he looks at. His voice is surprisingly smooth and gentle for his appearence, which mostly freaks people out the first time. He does not yell, he does not bother arguing with you, he just swings his sword and/or fists at you. He can and will ignore you forever if you provoke him, and he is the one (along with Celegorm) to do something only because you said he couldn’t. He hates arguments and fights with a burning passion, and although he is good at negotiations, he doesn’t use that skill. Would rather netflix and chill rather than being social me too man
Curufin has his father’s voice. What he does not say he makes up for with his facial expression. Words are for him to twist and use to his purpose.; he does not choose to fight unless he has lost the verbal battle first. Can and will talk you to death with facts, arguments and well-constructed opinions; sometimes he does it on purpose to see how long the person he’s talking to will last. Words have power, and he does not waste his breath to say small or unimportant things. Words are a weapon, and Curufin is as deathly as Maedhros with them.
Amrod: is loud, like Celegorm. He is always talking, somehow never running out of things to say. He is that one kid that when in company of strangers just won’t. Shut. Up. Other kids are intimindated by new people, Amrod intimindates new people. He likes to talk, talking is fascinating, and there’s never enough time to say everything he wants. His voice is high-pitched when he gets excited, and almost girly, but Amrod does not particulary care.
Amras: is the exact opposite. Amras doesn’t talk, he lets his twin do all the talking. Talking about things that don’t have a deeper meaning is pointless; he doesn’t waste his voice over small talk. At some point his family though he was mute, but Amrod assured them that Amras was just fine, “he just doesn’t like talking”. No one pushed him to talk after that. His voice is close to Curufin’s when he does talk, sharp and with edges. He resolves to punching when pissed, words are useless and pointless in that situation
