Well I was going to suggest displaced Nether twins Ingo and Emmet for a possible R&C crossover (silver irises!) but then I remembered how big battle arenas are and what if high-ranking gladiators who are quite nice, they just like to rumble? Not sure how to fit in the transportation side yet but I HAVE been pondering this. The Ratchet and Clank sleeper fandom has hit me once more.

Ooh, the Nether idea is a cool one, and I could definitely see for-sport gladiators working out (depending on the venue, that is... though it would be easy enough to spin Ingo's Hisui arc as being abducted for Dreadzone... hm. This requires further consideration.)

I was toying a little bit with ACiT's rifts, which would be a convenient way to pop back and forth in time, and potentially also cause some fights with Dialga, but wasn't in love with the idea-- as funny as it was to imagine DIALGA TALKING IN ALL CAPS while Clank's just... a soft spoken little dude. I think you've got something good started there, though!

re: that OFMD fundraiser thing: my roommate was actually involved in that and there's been no theft at all. Additionally, just today they broke $10k for Palestine too and have been buying sim cards for Gaza; surprisingly no drama about it at all, which is nice.

This is another shot in the dark. I'm looking for a comic of some sort where Ingo and Emmet switched outfits and attempted to speak in the manner they were trying to impersonate in an April Fool's joke. With Ingo trying to spout in a matter-of-fact tone and the all "I am Emmet" greeting, while Emmet just simply says, "Ingo." The trainer, which I believe was Hilda, knows that they swaped uniforms just from the way they speak. And that's the best of what I can recall. Thank you.

I definitely have that one somewhere in my archive I'm pretty sure!

@madredhattie and I discussed a Ratchet and Clank AU a few days ago, and the suggestion that the twins would be Nethers really clicked for me. While most of what I have to say is summed up above, there are some extra notes below, too.

No one has any idea which of the twins is actually older. The current state of things is a guess, and the odds are 50/50.

Due to their skin coloration and the spots on their faces, they're often mistaken for hybrid or mutant Markazians.

Their coat tails are holograms projected from their vests-- that way nothing gets snagged in a firefight.

Ingo only wields one weapon at a time; Emmet almost always dual wields. Often, this means that he's providing cover while Ingo takes a decisive shot.

For the Deadlocked plot in my head, they were both targeted for DreadZone, but Ingo was able to assure Emmet's safety and, therefore, was the only one captured.

During this fight, they accidentally caused a temporary rip into the Netherverse, allowing something to slip through, unnoticed.

This tear is actually to blame for Ingo's resultant amnesia, but the assumption is that he hit his head during transport.

Even somewhere where dual wielding is the norm, he will not do it; he's also unable to work with support warbots, because the balance feels off.

This would put him at a disadvantage, but the juvenile Nether following him around has had an additional effect on him: awakening the racial ability to teleport, which helps to even the odds. He just assumes he's always been able to do that.

Nobody knows the Nether is there for a long time. Eventually, it gets put into an expended ammo box to help it survive in their dimension.

Ingo's primary support team consists of Irida, a Cazar working tech/communications, and Sneasler, a robot who works on any damaged equipment and handles upgrades. (Neither of their designs is final; it was just midnight and I wanted to get my thoughts down.)

A lot of people know who Ingo is, and have tried to help him remember, but it just won't stick. It's assumed this is due to a (nonexistent) head injury, but it's the Nether interfering again.

While he's a very popular Gladiator-- the most popular, by ratings-- he's rarely seen on Vox News. His static expressions and upbeat demeanor make it hard to get under his skin, so the (lack of) outrage isn't worth the air time.

The twins reunite during the game's climax, but wouldn't be able to escape the station if not for the juvenile Nether, which temporary pulls them into the Netherverse to traverse an impassable path in their dimension.

After the game, they help to get everyone who'd been displaced home. This is what introduces them to working in transportation.

Not retired, but on indefinite sabbatical until they've recovered. They work with grav trains.

I hope this isn’t too out of the blue or like, abrupt, but seeing that fanfic mental health reblog made me decide to be brave and tell you that you are one of, if not my favorite, authors for the submas fandom. MHIMH and AGAS are pinnacle works and I’ve gotta reread By The World I Was Taken soon - not to mention all your oneshots and writing scraps. You just have a knack for creative ideas and excellent character voice that I really enjoy! Also I may have started watching Dungeon Meshi earlier than I would otherwise because I have to know the context of Giratina Chimera Ingo. Anyway, know that your work has brightened my day many times! (Also, a Ratchet and Clank, Ghosr Trick, AND Psychonauts fan? Excellent taste!)

Oh, thank you! I don't think it's too abrupt or anything like that; to be perfectly honest, I've been in something of a slump where writing is concerned lately, so it's actually really nice to receive this, right now!

That's so kind of you to say, and it's an absolute joy to hear that you've enjoyed the stories that much! There are still a number of things I'd like to address in the world of After the Tone, but I think it's been good to give it some time to rest, get a new perspective in there. Granted, right now I'm just aimlessly noodling around, but you never know what's going to come back in a new and interesting way.

I do have to acknowledge that the Distortion Chimera AU doesn't directly follow the pattern set by Dungeon Meshi, despite being 100% inspired by it-- but I'm super happy that you're checking it out because of my silly drawings! It's legitimately the best watching/reading experience I've had in quite some time, and I hope you have as much fun with it as I did! (Maybe I should go ahead and write up those notes for Distortion Chimera, anyway-- I don't know if I would make a full-blown story out of it, but a little infodump wouldn't hurt.)
