Today I got a hit of inspiration for my OC work (prev snippet here) This was supposed to be the moment Sam(antha) spots Anna for the first time, but then we made friends with the bartender first 🤷🏻 anyways I hope you like it 😘

The bartender is clad in a hot pink short-sleeve crop top that exposes abs I’ve only ever dreamed of, and glittery gold short shorts that barely cover their ass. Sparkly eyeshadow highlights violet irises, adding to the sass of the outfit that contrasts with dark chocolate skin and nearly black hair cut close to the skin. They exude an enviable sense of confidence, an aura that seems to naturally draw people closer.  It makes me wonder if the crowds even know why they’re flocking to the bar. If they intended to get another beer or cocktail, or if they simply couldn’t resist the pull of the shimmering god slinging drinks. My more than three decades of low self esteem withers, but not before laughing at me for being afraid of speaking to another human.  “I promise I don’t bite!” They yell over the music, sending me a playful wink. “Unless you want me to. But that’s for after hours only.” Their straightforward attitude, coupled with my inability to form a response, makes me immediately want to be swallowed up by a spontaneous sinkhole. To my disappointment, the floor remains solidly beneath my feet.  With an exasperated sigh, they roll their eyes and lean in closer. “Beer?” Finally, a question I can answer. “No. Never liked the stuff.” They nod, as if taking mental notes. “Okay then, sweet, sour or strong?” “Fruity. And strong. Surprise me.” They raise an eyebrow at that, as though questioning whether I know what I’m saying, before they flip a glass from behind the counter and begin pouring from various bottles like a sorcerer.  “Here.” They push the concoction my way, waiting expectantly. I tentatively lift it, sniffing to see if I can make out any of its ingredients. Before I can, the glass is being tipped toward me, liquid spilling over my lips, most of it splashing on my tongue and some dribbling down my chin. It burns going down my throat at first, making me cough and splutter. But then it settles to something mild and pleasant, like drinking a spiced apple pie.  “You’re welcome,” the bartender says. “I know your type. Too sheltered, too indecisive and afraid of making a mistake. You needed a push.” They shrug as if they haven’t just come for my entire life in one breezy statement. “So I pushed."

If you could invent a holiday, what would it be, and how would people celebrate it? i would invent a holiday where people stay up all night just to celebrate. celebrate what? who knows, but they do. they could gather with friends, or just chill out at home, doesn't matter, they just can't go to sleep. they have to enjoy the nighttime. and nobody has work the next day so everyone can sleep the day away after.

What’s the most interesting place you’ve ever visited in your country? god idk, fucking nowhere. maybe philadelphia. went to a bunch of museums and historical sights on my trip there, so that was kinda cool.

"Where is my child!?" Marius demanded.

"I left her with Quinn, he's been taking good care of her." Saline answered.

"You left her with him?"

"Yes! I was in no position to raise a little girl! I couldn't eve take care of a stray cat! He has taken good care of her. Where the hell were you? You couldn't even stop by, write a letter, give one penny to help the child you made!"

He stepped back, "I'll- I'll deal with you later!" He turned, ran out of her cottage, to the Nether Woods and the manor of the Dark Lord Nelgoth.

Marius and two other men, an Elvin paladin Agnar Oakborn and a Dwaven Barbarian Ametrine, burst into the abode of the Dark Lord. Skeleton warriors rose form the floor, Marius blasted the skeletons with bolts of fire and ice, Ametrine smashed the smashed the bone with his mighty hammer, and Agnar slashed at the skeletons with his holy sword of light.

“Stop!” A voices yelled from the second floor, “Who invades my home and why are you attacking my skeletons?” Demanded the necromancer Quinn Nelgoth.

“Sorry boss, they took us by surprise.” one of the skeletons said.

“It is fine, I will get you all back together.” The Dark Lord said to the skeletons. “What are you doing in my home!?” The Necromancer demanded.

“We have come to rescue the kidnapped child!” Agnar yelled.

“’Kidneapped child’?” He looked at the group and finely recognized their wizard. “By the dark gods!” Quinn exclaimed, walked down the steps to the first floor. “I did not kidnap her, I adopted her!” The necromancer pointed at Marius, “After he left her at his opiate addicted sister! He hasn’t even written a letter or sent one coin to help out with raising her, did he even tell you that?”

“No,” Ametrine answered, “in fact we didn’t even know he had a kid until told us you kidnapped her.”

“Well- well I am here now I will stop you from teaching her any evils!” Marius said.

“I am not our father!” The necromancer yelled.

“’Our father’?” The Paladin asked, looking at Marius.

“I took responsibility! unlike you. I changed her diapers, I held when she cried, I taught her how to walk, how to talk, how to read. I go to partied and meeting with people I hate so she can have friends her age. I sit in a little seat, at a little table with all her stuffed animals and play tea party with her.” He showed them his finger nails, painted pink, “she painted these, not I!”

Agnar sheathed his sword, “he sounds like a good father.”

“He really is.” one of the broken skeletons said.

“A good master too,” another skeleton said, “He keeps us clean, mends our breaks, and pays us well.”

“We get full unhealth insurance with dental.” Yet another skeleton said.

“’Dental’? The Heroes Guild doesn’t even give that.” Ametrine commented.

“While you were gallivanting around the lands doing what ever it is you do.”

“Fighting evil!” Marius uninterrupted.

“’Fighting evil’,” Quinn said with air quotes, “I was raising the baby you were the sperm donor to. Do you even know her name?”

“”Of course! Um- Ss- Sam-” pause, “antha.”

“Sydney.”

“You changed her name?”

“No! That was the name you gave her!”

Quinn looked at the Paladin. “What is your oath Paladin.”

The Paladin unsheathed his sword, held it in the air. “To battle evil so the innocent may not suffer!”

“Isn’t it evil to to abandon one’s child to a drug addict-” Quinn looked at Marius, “who is now four years sober, with no help from you!” back at Agnar “-a drug addicted woman and never even write or send anything to help raise the child?”

Agnar looked at Marius, lowering his arm, “Yes, that would be evil.”

“Very evil.” Ametrine added.

“Wouldn’t it also be evil to barge in on the homw of the one who has been raising that child as his own, threatening him and accusing him of crimes?”

The Paladin pointed is sword at Marius. “Indeed.”

They heard a door open from the second story, an 8-year-old girl in unicorn pajamas carrying a unicorn plush came out. “Daddy, why is everybody yelling?”

The Paladin and the Barbarian hid their weapons behind their backs.

Quinn looked up. “I’m sorry Baby, it’s just a misunderstanding. Go back to bed and I’ll be up there to tuck you in and read you a story.”

Marius opened his mouth to speak, Agnar covered it with his hand.

“Alright.” Sydney went back through the door.

Quinn looked at the party, “Leave! You people have cause enough trouble. It will take all night to put my employees back together.”

“We are very sorry, bill us for the damages and the time, we’re staying in the Inn in River Bend.” Ametrine said. The Elf and Dwarf took Marius out of the Dark Lords home.

A week later Sydney got a letter from her “uncle” Marius with over 30 silver he earned from his new job as a waiter at the tavern in River Bend. It was either that or the Paladin fulfill his oath.

Here's my ghoul OC, Her name's Sam(antha) she was a medical student before the great war unforunately she was in Vegas when the bombs dropped so she never could make it to her designated vault for obv. reasons. Years ago I made some audio log scripts of her process of becoming a ghoul and her years of being a doctor for any survivors and settlers on the west coast. I also came up with a concept with my friend that she has to constantly fight any cannibalistic urges to prevent becoming a feral ghoul (which now the show has these little serums sooo *shrug?*).

Sammie's older sister by a couple of years

used to be annoyed by his clinginess, but upon their entrance to the hostile ducal household, became more consciously protective and open with her affection

was meant to become a spy at an all-female organisation, but switched places with her sickly younger brother and entered the army to give him a better chance at survival

was given a strong magic charm by the old granny so she wouldn't be violated, but it made her kind of unpopular and she'd get beaten up instead

prodigy at the sword

a terror on the battlefield and made a name for herself at a relatively young age

died in battle (assassinated)

no one ever truly knows how she really felt about her life and how she felt marching to her death.

nickname: Sammie (Sam took the cooler and more mature nickbame first and refused to give it up)

partial to feminine attire and hobbies since young (think Shu). would play dolls with Sam

charismatic and great at making ppl feel comfy with him.

switched from being a crossdressing spy to a businessman in his own name (no surname) bc it was just very tedious to keep crossdressing. his business is secondary, though. mostly he endears himself to others by doing good deeds / getting win-wins (and reporting the intel he got from their interactions)

always looked up to and idolised Sam, so he irrationally believed that she must be fine in the army as she claimed

when he grew older and could no longer deceive himself, he vowed to quickly get her out

wants to give Sam whatever happiness and positive feelings that she had sacrificed so much for to give to him

his sister's death seriously destabilised him. did not necessarily believe the best in people, but had always wanted a win-win situation. stopped having the energy and will to keep doing so

he came out of Sam's death slightly wrong. a little too focused on becoming her, very focused on keeping her memory alive. very cognizant of the loss and the danger that he is in. jumpy, wary and on the defensive, unlike his confident past self.

Granny

luckily for him, most of his support system is still intact and know his identity. he acts and thinks like his old self around them, but he often is in his Sam persona trying to get things done. he feels more and more alienated from his old self.

beginnings of a crush on Bestie before they went their separate ways and he went to the army. then shit hit the fan and he hasn't quite had the headspace for his feelings since

knows she might get punished for helping the sams switch, but she's gonna die soon anw of old age so she doesn't care

saw herself in samantha. failed to save someone when she was younger and it haunted her ever since. (idk what abt sammie tho.... sammie will hv to live w that regret now. in fact its a miracle samantha lasted that long)

she tries to check in on samantha, which is how and why a stronger intelligence link between her hse and the army was formed. the sams send letters thru it sometimes.

Bestie

endgame

met Sammie after he has already acclimatised to crossdressing

her moral compass mostly works like this: this will make sammie happy -> do it. this will trouble sammie -> don't do it.

initially fell for him before she learned that he was, in fact, crossdressing.

has not confessed yet. having her love requited was never a big deal for her bc they had a v secure r/s

very secure in her friendship with Sammie. She won't ever sacrifice herself unless it's necessary to prevent an even greater sadness to Sammie. she won't let MC sacrifice herself either.

left the orphanage to receive training at the magic tower. when she reunited w Sammie, it was to deliver news of his little sister. personally witnessed the drastic change from normal sammie to overwhelmed sammie. she never wants to see that happen again.

she's a little yandere because sammie is so good at making you feel seen, but they've both been actively working on establishing & keeping to boundaries. it's just that prioritising sammie's happiness still tends to be what brings her the most happiness

will eliminate anyone and anything that makes him sad. this means she will not go after MC even though she sometimes feel jealous, bc Sammie wants MC by his side. does not begrudge this bc she wholeheartedly wants Sammie to be as happy as possible

a little fucked up by how her family treated her. internalised the idea that she should sacrifice her happiness for others' sakes in order to be acknowledged/be moral.

she very badly wanted to be the pinnacle of morality bc she wanted to be a gd spouse for the ex.

mistakenly believes that she should sacrifice herself so that Bestie and Sammie can get together. Bestie saves her bc she knows Sammie wouldn't want her to sacrifice herself. Bestie has seen how much Sammie hated that his sister chose to sacrifice herself without considering his feelings. Bestie knows better.

"why are you saving me? our marriage has alr more or less done its job giving him legitimacy. if i'm gone, you can marry him no qns asked." bestie pausing to give her an incredulous look. gg i mean yeah theres the whole marriage of convenience thing, but more than that, he alr sees you as one of his ppl. he'll be crushed if you die for him. / and besides, she doesnt need him to dote on her like a lover to continue wanting the best for him. it may be necc for others, but its always been this way for her. this is how she honours her feelings for him, and has been for years.

passively used the brainwashing ability without knowing from the moment it manifested when she was a toddler. which means that everyone who spent a lot of time w her was infatuated with her and listened to her every whim. this fucks her up bc she has no concept of boundaries now. sees it as her right to take and take and for others to bend over backwards to fulfil her requests, even at their own detriment. grows up w the mentality of a toddler bc no one has ever scolded her

idk possibly the biological dad comes in and decides to use her to gain political power. he has natural immunity to the charm. possibly the first person to ever school her. maybe she gets development here.

terrible maturity levels bc she has very very rarely ever been told no. the few ppl who have were also immediately punished, so surely it was THEY who were wrong, right?

She can hang upside down just fine like Mixie and her siblings can, though she doesn’t do it often.

She can possess cameras like her bat mum. However, unlike her mum, she is able to control it.

She was the second fankid to be made, and the first to be revealed. Her design hasn’t changed much from when she was first shown with the biggest change being the removal of her hood eyes, which were removed because they made her design cluttered.

I had to do some hours at a local daycare for my childcare licensing program. I kid you not, in the daycare I was at, there was a Brennan, a Jake and a Katrina in the infant to 12 month room, in the 1 year to 23 months room, there was a Cory (girl), a Devin (boy), and a seth, but my favorite was in the 2-3 year group. There is Sam(antha) and a Colby. Not related, but are best friends and would team up on the other kids when they were feeling mean. They didn't like other kids playing with them or sharing toys. They also laughed really hard every time I said hey! It's sam and colby!

fun fact, probably a year ago give or take, i was at my job and a kid was running around my store and his father was calling for him. and the father yelled out "colby! come back here!"

and then what made it weirder was the kid ran into my isle and i shit you not, he had dark hair and blue eyes. i was so surprised and i just kinda stood there like "is there a glitch in the matrix? what's happening???"

putting the rest of this under a cut because it’s a very long discussion of some transphobia/transmisogyny in 1989 hit show quantum leap and of a specific line that confuses the hell out of me. 

alright so we had to watch what price, gloria? a few days ago just to get it out of the way and unlike episodes like 8 1/2 months where sam finds joy in being a woman/being perceived as a woman this is the first time he Ever leaps into one so of course we have to be g-d fucking awful about it. and like. i cannot stop thinking about the ending scene which is essentially just Painful transphobia where sam is like “i’m actually a man” to a guy who has been sexually harassing the woman whose body he leapt into (whose name is also sam(antha)). like very typical and bad transmisogyny of the time, here. i knew about the ending in general terms beforehand so i was bracing myself but there was something that really came out of left field with it that i haven’t been able to get out of my head. 

specifically, i cannot stop thinking about the bit where evil businessman #3 or whoever the hell is like (and i quote, i have a dialogue transcription right here) “you mean you had a...you did a christine jorgensen?” and sam says “no, no, i didn’t say i used to be a man, i said i am a man.” 

like ok! there’s a lot to unpack here! first of all, generally transphobic way to think about trans women in the first place as women who used to be men though not unexpected for 1989. but also very like. like. it feels like an attempt was made to make it less transphobic? (which i do not think it succeeds at. this is still a transmisogynist bit in a transmisogynist episode!!!!) where it makes a clear distinction between trans women and men dressed as women by using the name of an actual real trans woman (who died the same year the episode came out? it came out in october of 1989 and jorgensen (z’’l) passed in may of the same year? like it’s very likely she was alive at the time of the episode’s writing) to further the point. the scene then continues on into further transphobic territory but we don’t have to get into all that because it’s very cut and dry. not that the whole scene isn’t cut and dry transmisogyny, because it absolutely is. 

like it feels almost like... this is a much more egregious example in my opinion considering the genre, the reach it had, the awards the movie won, etc but it feels almost like how there are several lines in s-lence of the l-mbs where they’re like “oh this isn’t how trans women actually act! this person is just a weirdo and actual trans women aren’t dangerous!” and it’s like okay? you can say that you’re trying not to be transmisogynistic but you still are by writing these scenes and deliberately drawing upon transmisogynistic tropes. like you chose to do that.

and to be clear i do not think this automatically means that the people who wrote this episode (hello deborah pratt) were making an attempt--a very much failed one--at making the scene less transphobic when they added that in. i do not have that kind of faith in tv show writers now, much less in ones from three decades ago. i do not think anybody should come away from that episode being like “well they made a distinction between trans women and men so they get points for effort even if it was a bad attempt” and i know that very few people have probably thought as much about this as i have, and surely ms. pratt didn’t either when she finalized that script. i just think it was a bizarre decision to drag christine’s name into this and to deliberately bring up trans women in a transmisogynistic scene that then goes on to masquerade as something else (however intentionally) by virtue of using her name to separate the subject of said scene from actual trans women and therefore from transmisogyny as an oppression. 

this probably doesn’t make any sense i’m just struggling to put into words how the throwaway line about christine fucking slapped me in the face. the episode isn’t good and while the whole episode has transmisogynistic gags it’s especially awful at the end and i wish they hadn’t brought an actual recently deceased at the time of release woman into it. i am glad later ones have sam nearly euphoric at the thought of being perceived as a woman (or girl in billie’s case) while doing away with the kind of bullshit that’s in the finale of this one. let’s leave it at that.

As she sat up she couldn't help but to think that the dream that she hadn't had in 15 years would come back to her causing her to remember her childhood. Samantha sat with her shaky hands in her head trying to believe she was in a better place in life.

"I can't do this again, But why now?"she questioned puzzled. She falls back into deep sleep until she was awaken by Jackie "Samantha will u get up already ur going to be late"!!!! She slowly made her way down as Elijah and Sienna looked at her, it was obvious that she didn't sleep at all that night. They assumed it was Samantha being her fell asleep while working at night.

As she walk to the entrance Bryce caught up calling out for Samantha breathless "SAMANTHA, HELLOO SAMANTHA WAIT FOR MEEEEE!!!!,Sam..antha...wait...for me" she was lost in her mind she didn't hear him.

As Bryce caught up he tapped her shoulder making her jump " oh god Bryce you scared me", he exclaims  "I was calling for you for the past 3 minutes,are you ok" she replies " sorry I didnt hear u, I'm ok I had a late night" she gets lost back into that thought. He wanted to reassure himself and asked her "are u sure are you still pissed at me because I said favourite thing was my reflection?"

There was no reply she goes in and starts her shift with tension visible on her face.

hello anon!! i love this question!!

firstly the great news is that lactose free milk lasts for MONTHS and way longer than normal milk, so if half of your house is lactose free then get 3-4 cartons of that - Lactaid is a great brand, because it tastes like normal milk so the non lactose free people will drink it probably, plus it's good to cook with.

on the topic of meats: chicken and beef freeze really well, so if you get enough of that to stock but not overpack your freezer, you'll be good to go for that half meat-loving household.

ok now for the list of veggies/fruits that don't go bad quickly!!

spaghetti squash

potatoes

mushrooms

garlic

onions (but don't put them with the potatoes, the fumes will make the potatoes go bad faster. also yellow onions last the longest in my experience)

get frozen. veggies. i can't stress this enough

frozen. fruits. also important

carrots

oranges (they can last longer than a week if you refrigerate them, also vitamin c is crucial)

celery

dry/canned goods you should consider getting that go with most meals:

beans (dried or in a can, doesn't matter, pick your favorite)

rice

dry pasta

flour (whole wheat and all-purpose, to make bread, i can shoot you a recipe but remember to get active dry yeast too if you do that)

ramen (if you want to be cheap - ramen is VERSATILE)

broth granules (vegetable, chicken, beef - whatever you need)

canned tomatoes (i like diced the best)

cereal

eggs. they'll last past the expiration date - even up to 2 extra weeks if you have a kickass fridge

don't forget to get something fun to make too, like some boxes of cake mix. life should be fun:')

my big advice? get recipes compiled together before you go to the grocery store - and plan on making a BUNCH and freezing as much as you can. you can freeze anything. ANYTHING. if you need ideas i can shoot you recipes, but soups are easy (like chicken noodle, without the chicken even, or chili), fried rice, pasta ... all of this can be made in bulk and frozen. hell, you can even freeze BANANAS.

and remember: realistically, you'll run out of some stuff you need in 2-3 weeks probably, unless you're planning on eating plain meals (which, unless you guys are sick, it shouldn't come to that). so go in with the mindset of what you need in the next month, with the spark of hope that you can restock. if you CANT restock, it'll be okay - like i said, if you are sick or can't leave for a while, it'll just be plain meals, like beans and rice, for a while, so make sure you stock up on stuff that can get you through at least a few months like that.

heather jenkins: was previously with a manipulative and physically abusive boyfriend, has no friends anymore due to him and has run away into the cold winter to find a new life away from someone she used to love.

samantha litzenger: she just dropped out her senior year and got kicked out of her parents house. now sam is working at her local record store trying not to roll her eyes at every ignorant music lover she see’s.

bella skinner: a plus-size model and is a huge advocate for body positivity despite having none for herself. of course she tries to love herself but it’s hard to after the years she had to deal with before-hand.

gentle oola: despite her name she’s far far from gentle. lives in the sylvan glade with her parents being rulers and her next in line for the throne. sadly though that just isn’t the life gentle has made for herself as she’s often getting in trouble with her land’s laws and climbing up trees to see beyond her soon to be land.

agatha ellemore: i have no interesting story about her i just made her when story mode first came out and then used her to test out the basemental drugs mod owo.

penny ludwig: she was my best attempt at the 100 baby challenge a while ago and she got to 18 kids! my personal record...

jude inkwell: a crazy girl who only shops at thrifts stores (and was doing that BEFORE it was cool) she always takes little nacs from stores and just forgets to...pay for them. she’s jude the dude

Grace Fisher (sole survivor v.)

I have a really big habit of putting my original characters into games, and that’s why Grace got here!

So! In this AU, or the universe of this playthrough, Grace is a marine biologist who lived in Sanctuary with her partner Norma - and I actually think they were not married, because for ONCE I’m gonna explore the possibility of pre-war homophobia, and its effects on my girls. That’s something that’s part of Grace’s character anyway: she has a lot of conflicting feelings re: her queerness, and her religion, so it’s not like I wasn’t planning to have the pre-war world here have homophobia as an inbuilt feature anyway.

ANYWAY. They lived together, acting like they’re just close (kinda spinstery) friends sharing a house! They’d been roommates in like high school or college (I know nothing about the Americal school system), and definitely had some feelings for each other back then already, but never dated. After that they’d studied in separate places for their respective jobs. They met again in whatever state I have said Norma is from when both moved there for work and happened to run into each other, and quickly fell in love, and got together, and have been together since!

And they get their babies - Sam(antha) and Margaret! I have no idea what kinda way they go about it yet, don’t know if “single” women would be allowed to receive (legal) fertility treatments, or what kinda stigma would exist towards them. I think they move to Massachusetts pretty soon after Norma gets pregnant, because nobody knows them there, and they can let people assume Norma has a husband who died in the army or something, cover their tracks a little. The house in Sanctuary is like a little dream come true after lots of apartments and stuff, and they’re really happy there! 

Until, of course, the bombs happen.

And from there, the story goes that Grace has Sam and Norma has Margaret when they’re frozen, and Margaret gets stolen and Norma shot, but Norma remains questionably alive on ice, and Grace tries to navigate the Commonwealth with a small baby, and tries to both find her missing daughter AND find a way to save her wife! Ta-dah!

Idk what kinda contribution either of them would have made that’d allow them to be selected to the vault, but I think Grace may have worked on some groundbreaking marine biology stuff and has awards for it and stuff, so they’re like sure, let’s take her!
