MAD MAX MOVIE MARATHON
CLASSIC REVIEWS
(REVIEW ORIGINALLY FROM 2022)
I re-watched Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981)
Possibly one of the greatest sequels in film history. This is what people think of when they think of Mad Max.
After getting revenge on the gang who murdered his family, Max Rockatansky has headed off into the wasteland, only to stumble upon a gas refinery and a struggle between those who have it and those who want it.
Road Warrior opens with a succinct explanation for Max's story. We get more understanding of what has happened and what is happening to the world. It explains the gasoline wars and the desperation for fuel.
Quickly the movie heads into a really great car chase, setting up where Max is in his wandering, and what he's up against out in the wasteland.
Very few movies are this immediately cool.
In the first film it felt as though the wasteland and the gangs were bleeding over into what was left of the civilized world. In the Road Warrior we are in the wasteland. It is brutal, it's is harsh and it is without remorse. Max has grown a bit cold since we last saw him. In the first film he worries that being out on the highway could turn him into one of the crazies. In this film he is well on his way to being one.
George Miller, the director, gives us a sun drenched world, strange looking characters and some great action sequences. Miller made the original Mad Max for almost nothing. Here he's been given a budget, which he uses expertly.
With an interesting story that pertains to the world building, Mel Gibson as a great lead, and just some of the most unique weirdness out there, Road Warrior has been copied and ripped off countless times. It is, in fact, the quintessential idea of the wasteland.
It's just an awesome movie top to bottom. A classic.

Siempre pensé que la mujer guerrera (Virginia Hay) en Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981) protagonizaría una escena espectacular al estilo Legolas en The Lord of the Rings. Pero su final fue algo abrupto en la historia.

So...just for clarity, I think we need a recap of all the girls in Humungus' gang:
1. Luke's girlfriend (Anne Jones, the only one who's credited for her acting role)
Tumblr media
2. Badass biker
Tumblr media
3. Pink braids (yes I only have like...two good pictures of her)
Tumblr media
4. Curly hair eyepatch
Tumblr media
5. Super tall eyepatch (if I'm not mistaken, she's in the credits as the producer's secretary)
Tumblr media
(also there's this picture so the eyepatch girls are a couple in my heart)
Tumblr media
6. Pink's best friend
Tumblr media
7. Humungus' servant
Tumblr media Tumblr media
?. All the characters played by Dale Aspin (because let's say it, we never really see her, but she was everywhere. Let's give her the recognition she deserves) (in the second picture she's wearing the uniform of a Smegma Crazy minus the fur)

(also, I've heard different things about who did the close-ups shots of the Landau driver, so we can't be sure it's her, but I think it's still worthy of mention)
Tumblr media
??. And, last but not least, I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that there was at least another woman among the Smegma Crazies but I can't support my claim bc there's pretty much zero pictures of them without the masks.
Conclusion: this means there's...at least 10 women in the gang. They're not as visible as their male friends, but, considering that this movie was shot in 1981, it's still pretty good. Especially if we consider the fact that all these women are supposed to be villains.
(if you think I might have missed something you're more than welcome to correct me obviously)
