Kemono Heroes coming to PS5, Xbox Series, PS4, Xbox One, and PC in Q2 2024

Publisher JanduSoft and developer Mad Gear Games will release side-scrolling action platformer Kemono Heroes for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam in Q2 2024, the companies announced.

Kemono Heroes first launched for Switch on February 27, 2020 under the publishing of NIS America.

About

Kemono Heroes combines elements of run and gun, fast arcade action with dashes and slashes, with cool and fluffy characters. It can be experienced alone, choosing between three difficulties to enjoy a real challenge. Up to four friends can also join forces in cooperative mode, fighting and helping each other to overcome any obstacles in their way. After A Hole New World, an 8-bit like game, we thought we should make a 16-bit-like game now. An arcade cooperative one, for four players, with ninjas on it! Thus Kemono Heroes was born!

Being a game collector is so weird bc you tell your friends "hey have you seen this thing, it's one of my favorite things ever and if you want to try it you either have to hang out at my place for a week or emulate it which is always morally correct but there's like a 10% chance it won't play exactly right or buy it secondhand on ebay for $200 more than I did when I found it decaying on a gamestop shelf 15 years ago and you can only play it on the PS2 because that disc doesn't work on anything modern if it still even works at all"

but with movies it's like "hey have you seen Space Jam? It's an hour and a half, I've got it on DVD or we can rent it on five different streaming sites for like $5"

So we know from TW3 storyline with the Mad Witcher Kiyan that a lot of the cat school is made up of Witchers with Elven origins. But I’ve never seen anyone mention that this could be the reason they tend to be more unstable? Essentially they use mutations meant for humans (presumably) on descendants of elves and it’s probably a bit fucked. We know elven and human ancestry can physically mess up a person, like is shown with Yennefer, so were most of these trainees physically disabled in some capacity when they were brought to the Cat School? Is that why more schools didn’t adopt this method? Does it have to do with them being slightly closer to the Source and having a bit of chaos themselves which makes them more prone to mental illness? Thinking of Eskel being shown to have proficiency in signs due to his inclination to magic, it seems unlikely. So it must be something more physical/emotional. I don’t know, just pondering. Also, we under appreciate Kiyan as a fandom, please give this poor lad some love, I beg you.

Just re-learned that the best name for my beloved genre of games that I suck at ie high octane, combo-based action games that include Metal Gear Rising, Bayonetta, Hi-Fi Rush, DMC 5 etc. is truly “Spectacle Fighter(s)”! Heard it a while ago but it didn’t stick until recently getting reminded of it.

I used to use the phrase “Character Action” which despite still getting used always felt, to me, too broad & not at all as evocative as “Spectacle Fighters” which I feel gets to the core of why those games have appeal. Not only are they a close relative to the straight up fighting game genre with heavy emphasis on precision combos, move cancelling, hitboxes etc. but they also become elegant ballets of stylish combat that’s as fun to pull off as it is to watch especially in the hands of an expert. The “Combo MAD” tag of Youtube videos is overflowing vids for that very reason.

Been scouring the Steam category for “Spectacle Fighters” & I’m enjoying the fact mid-tier & indie outfits are & have been working to build up the genre beyond just the mainstream AAA company titles out there
