post-macdennis reveal episode in the same vein as "the gang spies like u.s." where mac and dennis get tired of fighting and decide to look for a third partner for casual sex so they can both bottom get what they want. except they have a hard time finding a guy they're a. both attracted to and b. neither of them are jealous of, so they keep sabotaging/scaring away each candidate.

meanwhile, charlie sees them sneaking around to screen all these guys and thinks they're trying to replace him with another gay friend since they're both gay now. a confused confrontation ensues where he essentially re-applies to be their friend by bringing up all the weird shit they've done together over the last 30 years and insisting he can fulfill all of their needs even though he's not also gay.

dennis and mac misunderstanding this and freaking out while considering whether they should/want to just fuck charlie until everything finally blows up.

charlie literally saying he doesn't feel safe using the second room... i mean yeah at first it seems silly that charlie insists on sleeping in the same bed as frank & hiding the bathroom for 10+ years but really it's his way of making sure he always has someone to protect him at night

i love the way mac and dennis take care of each other in different ways. mac making sure dennis is eating, doing small things for him like dyeing his hair and convincing himself he's "badass" enough to protect dennis but also i have a very strong headcanon that dennis takes care of mac in a more subtle way like looking out for him and one example i can think of to support this is when dennis burned luther's letters and got very upset about mac knowing bc 1. he knew it would break him and 2. he didn't want this to be perceived as him protecting mac. dennis is able to spot manipulation and mac isn't, bc he's desperate to be loved and can't see things clearly. so i can imagine if mac got a boyfriend who was manipulative towards him dennis would immediately have the instinct to protect him. like "i do this too but when i do it it's different and if u hurt him i'll literally kill u"
