The Calming David Lynch Ringtone m4r file

I promise this will be the end of my recent David Lynch preoccupation.

I made a ringtone "Everything Is Beautiful" based on a recent David Lynch interview on NPR. I use it as a custom ringtone when my Mum rings. She's usually stressed so I don't need to be. If you're all Mac and iPhone, here's how to get the m4r file on your phone.

Using Finder (For macOS 10.15 Catalina and later):

Connect your iPhone to your MacBook using a USB cable.

Open Finder and locate your iPhone under "Locations" in the sidebar.

Click on your iPhone and navigate to the General tab.

Drag and drop the .m4r file into the General tab area. This will automatically transfer the ringtone to your iPhone.

You can then add it to a contact.

Launch the Contacts app on your ‌iPhone‌ and select a contact from the list.

Tap Edit in the top-right corner of the screen, then tap the Ringtone field.

Choose "Everything Is Beautiful" from the ringtone list.

Tap Done in the top-right corner of the screen, then tap Done again on the next screen.

the four ancient gifts, huh?

thoughts? furthermore: prayers?

I've been wanting to do a bit of an update to this meta about Gift Giving in TDP (written pre-S6) as a few different things (mostly as a goodbye in arc 1 and about magic in arc 2 thus far) that I think S6 contributed to our understanding of. For example, I'd speculated in that meta that due to the language used by characters, Archdragons were contemporaries of the First Elves back in the day (post-S6 followup here), and that possibly all forms magic had been a gift from the First Elves to the 'Primal' elves, with dark magic being Aaravos' to Leola's primal magic to humans. (If you want more details on this I'd rec reading the meta in full itself.) It seems like Something of that sort is roughly what happened

However, my old meta about deceptive gift giving in Greek myth / TDP means that gift giving doesn't necessarily have a positive connotation, particularly because in giving a gift, you're deciding what someone needs (even when they don't or don't want it). Callum doesn't want the gifts Rayla gives him in leaving; dark magic has ruined a lot of human lives and caused immense suffering; Rex Igneous asks for worthy gifts of sacrifice in exchange for knowledge; the cube was given to Callum as a gift, but clearly has a more complicated past / connection to Aaravos.

I do think in TDP that the world is ultimately better off with Primal magic than without, which is why Callum Exists in the narrative to create an actually fair system where everyone can access primal magic.

However, at this point in time, primal magic but be another deceptive gift given to the elves from the First Elves, and was clearly a part I'm of their Cosmic Order (destiny and all that) with also interplays with thoughts Rayla has that Callum/humans can change their fate, but she (elves) can't. Four Gifts is a weird number — if it was 5 or 6 it could be all the primals or all the primals except stars — but there Are four members of the Cosmic Council, and those gifts were ancient, so...

I'm assuming that it's one Gift from each of them, tbh. Whether those gifts are good or bad or both, we'll have to wait and see

I have struggled with how to answer this.

I have never been given a gift like this before, did you know that? This set seems handmade, the coffee and tea fresh and rich smelling. It speaks to me of great luxury, unlike what we find here on Sanjak.

It makes me wonder your motivations in sending such a gift, though I don't know you. Are you seeking to endear me to your employers? To get such a package past the blockade is difficult, and a thing that is done with great expense.

If that is the case then I'd have to refuse, of course, and send it back. My issue with them is not personal, my support cannot be bought. It is rather ideological, an issue I have with the fact of their status, and the violence that must be done to maintain it. With what I have heard of the state of the house you serve, this violence is a thing you must be aware of keenly. You'd understand, then, that my problem is the hierarchy, and the clinging to a status that necessitates the superiority of some over others: one that always carries the potential for abuse, and has few outlets for rectifying that abuse.

(You've said to me before that you do enjoy serving, which I understand: but there is a difference between the choice to serve and the compulsion. Between a compact between lovers and a legal distinction that binds regardless of actual consent.)

I'd reiterate, in that instance, that kindness doesn't matter beside the fact of status, and if this is an offering as one would give to the Passions for forgiveness of a transgression I can only refuse, for I have no capacity to forgive such a thing and, even if I did, I feel I can only forgive an abuse that isn't still ongoing. (In that way I am quite forgiving indeed: one of my good friends is a former noble that has given up her old titles. Let me know if yours does too and I'll be happy to learn the Crosslandic ruleset for kapkat.)

However, if this is only a kindness you seek to do then I'll accept it in that spirit. I am not wanting for the heirlooms of deposed nobles, and will likely return the set anyway when the opportunity next strikes. I have a sneaking feeling that it might be involved in some petty scheme of nobles primarily invested in annoying one another that I wish to have no involvement with, but you can consider it a possession of yours. Share it with your fellows, I'm certain you deserve it.

As for the frame, I've said before that we lack the need for firepower, and we have limited support capacity for NHPs, but let me know if you wish for me to print you here anyway. You'll find little presence of NHPro here; Union keeps their hands off us for now, and if you would like the safe haven, I am happy to offer it.

The South Star, a special star that navigators use to find their way in the darkness. The way it looks so bright and by the heavens, I hope they implement this again.

She's so intent on listening, so focused to here the wonders between Elves and Humans with their stars.

To find their way in the endless darkness, and he looks at her. His fear is to lose himself down this dark path, and there she is.

She looks at him so tenderly, listening as he keeps going.

Then her eyes soften ever so as she gazes at him with more intent.

Resting her head on his shoulder to which he could move or do anything else. He questions it reasonably so.

He looks at her with renewed view, not opposed or withdrawn as he might have been in season 4. This look is just one of content and maybe more.

He quickly adjusts to it. Pressing his head against her as she rests on him. A tender night under the stars.

Rayla is the embodiment of "excuse me he asked for no pickles" especially since Callum is more laid back / diplomatic in nature (most of the time) so he's more willing to roll over like "no no it's fine" all apologetically whereas Rayla's more "no it absolutely is not fine" when accommodations or whatever gets messed up

Rayla gently teasing him but also patiently him learn more elvish tongues, particularly Moonshadow (even if his accent is terrible at first) since it's a whole new alphabet

He never stops being a night owl so Rayla will bring him another cup of tea and give him a goodnight kiss before she goes to bed herself. However if she wakes up later and he's still not in bed she is not above outright picking him up (or carefully carrying him, if he's nodded off) and bringing him to bed outright

She's still not a huge fan of water (so they don't bathe together often once they're officially a couple again) but she'll pull up a stool and let him recite his ocean poems to her and wash his hair for him (he loves it)

She also just loves running her fingers through his hair whenever she can

If Ezran alone can't get Callum to do something (have fun) then Rayla and Ezran almost always can, and it's always for the better

Adjusting his scarf for him all the time and picking feathers out of his hair that he's missed

For that matter she regularly keeps tabs on his belongings (esp when they're rushing) because she knows he can be scatter brained or particularly tunnel visioned (forgetting the bread in 1x06, Bait in a few instances, etc) and she doesn't want him to forget anything important. "Wait, almost forgot-" or "Where is my-?" quickly followed by a "Thanks Rayla" is a regular occurrence

On that note he also has a tendency to forget to eat sometimes so Rayla will tuck snacks into her vest / in Stella's portals for safe keeping so she can give him one or drop one off when she thinks he needs it

She will regularly steal his scarf just to wear it, esp on days they have to be apart for whatever reason, and/or pull him in by the scarf for kisses quite often (and is super flustered whenever he uses that trick on her)

Lots of muttering "Dork" under her breath with a smile and fond eye rolling whenever he's doing something sappy or silly or shameless, and she wouldn't have it any other way

She is always the more physically affectionate of the two, reaching for his hand first and entwining their fingers, gently touching his face and jaw, a hand on his shoulder in celebration or comfort, initiating hugs, etc. She knows, particularly after her absence, it brings twice the amount of reassurance and relief to him that he's not alone now

Callum is the only person she'll sing/hum around for, simply because he caught her singing quietly to Stella once and she can't say no to him to anything, really, even if she's always a little bit embarrassed when she sings (except to their kids, one day)

Watching him be good with the palace kids or Stella makes her melt into a puddle of goo every time, he's just so sweet and she can't resist

She loves to rest her hand on his chest and also knows it's a pretty good way to calm him down, whether he's stuttering or having a panic attack. Like a gentle touch and kiss and a "Hey, you got this" for reassurance before he settles (like the 3x09 handhold)

Her rubbing ointment on some of the injuries he gets over the course of the two wars (mostly on his back where it's harder to reach) and helping him do stretches to help manage the physical pain

Holding his hand in her hands and stroking her thumbs over his cheeks just to appreciate him and calm him down from nightmares/panic attacks, making sure he has time and space to recover and verbally lashing anyone who makes an unwelcome comment about any of it

Rayla thinks he is the most handsome pretty boy in the world and she loves telling him that because he gets so goofy and playfully smug about it / she gets regularly distracted during important meetings and discussions, sometimes, by just how good looking he is (particularly at parties involving formal wear)

She is very protective of both Ezran and Callum with her "terrified of Sol Regem until he insults/threatens her boy" protective scowl glare energy. This makes her clash with Runaan at first because she will not tolerate any slander, but eventually he gets the message

On the rare occasions he doesn't open up right away (which is definitely more prevalent post-arc 2) Rayla will just sit and stand there and wait patiently, gazing intently but kindly until he feels like speaking. And just like in canon, even when she knows what's bothering him (2x07 / 4x07) from the start, she still lets him get all his thoughts out before she provides a counter or reassurance, since she knows he needs to get it off his chest first

Just once for their anniversary Rayla tries to write Callum a love poem with a little sketch. They're both pretty terrible. He loves them anyway

Rayla finding any and all excuses to weave little braids into his hair because it's a common sign of courtship for elves, even if the wind will just blow them away when he goes flying

She tends to lead while they dance bc it lets him actually relax and not have to worry about messing up, so he can actually enjoy himself when he dances

She knows he loves puzzles and surprises so sometimes she'll leave notes / a tiny scavenger hunt and just watch as he's so delighted to solve each clue one by one (and usually ends up being a picnic or date she's set up for the two of them / a kiss. He's equally happy with both)

Sometimes she comes home to find Callum curled up on the couch with their baby curled up on his chest, both fast asleep, and Rayla just leans against the doorway and wonders how she got so lucky that this is her life
