A few months ago, I received a random text message saying, “Why’d You Wake Me is my new favorite song!” I was blown away especially considering the talent of the person who sent the message.

“Why’d You Wake Me” is a simple song. I tried to capture a time when being asleep was better than being awake.

Steve Oakley and I first recorded “Why’d You Wake Me” at a studio in Holland, Pennsylvania. Although not a great idea for audio quality, we left the outside doors open because it was one of those precious spring days with blues skies and little wind.

Due to the quiet acoustic nature of the song, “Why’d You Wake Me” didn’t fit with the last Mother Redcap record. And, it wasn’t what I was trying to do with the “Moment of Truth” CD. Fortunately, the “Before I Let Go” CD afforded me the opportunity to finally publish the song. This recording of “Why’d You Wake Me” was recorded in my home studio (AKA “spare bedroom”) - no memory of a beautiful spring day but a great experience performing and producing the song.

Big thanks to everyone from the homeland who stays in touch. Friends and family were key to getting through times when being asleep was better than being awake. The random text message with “love this song,” “check out my new tune,”… or the “the Cowboys suck” often make my day. Finally, if you ever wonder how I am doing, I sleep as little as possible now.
