— she is best described as ;
All the CLASS of an aged IRISH WHISKEY in a CRYSTAL cut glass with the POWER it packs when it touches your THROAT. She is pure STRENGTH, a DEPENDABLE & STURDY figure COLD like a STATUE & just as difficult to push down. She has taken the LAW into her two CAPABLE hands & handles it with CARE & ATTENTION without a single QUIVER. But deep in her eyes is the PAIN & SUFFERING only those who have experience true LOSS will know, though the only eyes to see it are her OWN within a REFLECTION.
— her story starts with ;
Born in a small cottage in Killarney, Millicent had no idea what lay ahead of her. The village was small and was mostly overgrown, a place where sorcerers go to retire. Her parents owned a simple antique bookshop and led simple lives, never leaving the village unless absolutely necessary. Regardless of this quaint upbringing, Millicent’s spirit refused to be contained and leapt at any opportunity that would mean freedom. Ambitious, dedicated and intelligent, she was soon sorted into Ravenclaw in record time when she arrived at Hogwarts, where her fellow housemates would only push her to be better, be greater. At heart, Millicent was a perfectionist, and thus pushed herself beyond her boundaries constantly. She never shied away from a challenge, taking on extra assignments and proving that she was right when she was questioned, even by professors. This, of course, gained her a reputation as a girl that was bossy. Millicent would argue if boys in her class were as forward thinking as her, would they be called the same, or perhaps if she were from sacred twenty-eight families. When she had an opinion she aired it, no matter how much it made the likes of Abraxas Malfoy roll his eyes. Growing up, there had not been much diversity amongst leaders and thus their world reflected the view of those in power.
There were lots of pure-blood men and not just pure-blood men, mostly sacred twenty-eight or adjacent. Millicent realised that in order to be respected like those who had been elected, she’d have to act like one, but try and not lose herself in the process. She began watching those who wielded power and how they managed it, Horace Slughorn, CIRCE GREENGRASS [acquaintance], anyone she deemed successful or someone who influences others around them. She took down notes of how to act like them, how to dress like them. Millicent began holding herself differently and the older she got the more conviction she had in the way that she spoke. Milicent knew she was intelligent, she knew that one day she would be somebody very important and not because of her last name, her blood type or how much money her family had. When she got to the top it would have been because she deserved it, and damn did she know she did. Unlike many young people fresh out of Hogwarts, Millicent was sure of herself and that alone made her excel quickly in her political career. Whilst not making many friends in Hogwarts due to her academic-oriented mindset, she had made a connection with Rutherford Bagnold, a Gryffindor boy who admired her courage and determination.
Both career-orientated, with Millicent working as junior undersecretary to the Minister for Magic and Rutherford in the magical invention industry, they understood one another and respected their desire to climb to the top. During her position as junior undersecretary, Millicent learnt another valuable lesson, that time was valuable and that it should not be wasted on unnecessary questions or conversations. She began to build an encyclopaedic knowledge of the ins and outs of the Ministry and along with her perfectionism, she began to run a tight ship. It wasn’t long until she received a promotion to senior undersecretary. She loved her job, and sure, she was the second-best to a man, but she had gone further than she could have hoped for and already had an impressive influence over the Ministry staff. She attended meetings and press conferences with Harold Minchum, the Minister for Magic at the time and learnt everything she could from him. It was at this point where she finally felt comfortable enough to start a family. It wasn’t long until Rutherford proposed, they had a fairytale wedding that pleased both families present in Ireland. The newly-wed couple moved into a house in Wimbledon and gave birth to their first son, HARRISON BAGNOLD [son].
As much as Millicent loved Harrison, she found being a parent difficult. For the first time in her life she had something other than her work to focus on, even with her husband he looked after himself. Harrison needed her in a way that no one ever had and although she wouldn’t admit it openly other than to Rutherford, Millicent struggled in her early years as a mother, trying to tend to her job and her family and do the best she could at both. Rutherford took the brunt of the parenting when Millicent went back to work when Harrison was two, she longed to be with him more and wondered if he’d have turned out different if she did. But Millicent knew her task and her dream were bigger than Harrison, she wanted to be the Minister for Magic to make the world a better place and that better place she desired a little bit more after her son was born, because she wanted it better for him and for her grandchildren. By the time Millicent had her second child BOOKER BAGNOLD [son], her outlook on parenting had somewhat changed. She was harder on herself with Harrison and harder on him as a result, she wanted him to be perfect and for her parenting to be perfect but when Booker came along she wanted something else, for him to be happy and for their family to be as well.
In free periods she’d take the boys to Quidditch matches and gave Booker the freedom he needed away from Millicent’s work events, the same events that Harrison now attended by choice, standing by his mother’s side, a well-spoken little gentleman that made her very proud. What felt like a couple of years passed quickly and soon Booker was attending Hogwarts too. The couple quickly adapted to their children not being at home again and threw themselves back into work, which quickly paid off for Millicent. She was promptly promoted to Advisor to the Minister for Magic. It was at this point that small cases of missing sorcerers started popping up, a trend formed and Harold Michum decided to allocate an Auror team to investigate the disappearances. What she didn’t know was that this issue would soon become hers. In 1980 Millicent was appointed Minister for Magic. Her carefully orchestrated plan had worked and well placed friendships voted her into power. Harold’s legacy had been that he had run a tight ship, however all those that had known Millicent knew that it had been her ship all along. She had proved all those that had doubted her wrong and more importantly, proved to herself that she was capable of achieving her dreams and more as long as she put her mind to it. In 1980 she became the Minister for Magic, Millicent knew that her time wouldn’t be straight forward, but she didn’t know difficult it could be.
In 1983, Millicent lost her youngest son, forced to watch as his body was fished out of the fountain in her workplace whilst her husband and eldest child screamed and cried with grief. Millicent has never truly recovered from that event. All she wanted to do was retreat into bed with her husband and grieve the loss of her child, but she was the Minister and the people needed her to lead. She had not thought much about creature control until Booker had died, it had never felt like a real issue, though her son had brought it to her attention several times with his position. It was a cruel irony that it was a werewolf that had killed her son, when all he wanted was to protect them. With the help of ALICIA AVERY JONES [colleague] Millicent had the entire weight of the auror’s office thrown behind finding her son’s killer, but people kept going missing, getting attacked or dying. ROSALIE FLINT [person of interest], INES MORENO [person of interest], BENJY FENWICK [person of interest], AMELIA BONES [person of interest] one after the other. Some days it was too much to cope with. Then the alley attacks happened. She knew it wouldn’t make her popular amongst some, it might even cost her some votes, but Millicent knew this was a problem that had gone far enough and now she was going to tackle it the only way she knew how. Head on.

The Riddle of Tom Riddle: Part 1/?
(Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7)
The Death Tool of Voldemort's Wars
So, I did say I'll make this post somewhere, so here it is.
When trying to make sense of Voldemort’s behavior in the books, I noticed that the two wars were actually very different. How they were waged, how many people died, and who was most targeted along with Voldemort's goals.
(Because I mentioned it, I'll just say Voldemort’s behavior in the book is really weird and somewhat contradictory, but I found a way to explain that. Consider this the second post on my way to analyze Voldemort after the Horcruxes one)
The Wizarding Population in the UK
The first step to figuring out how bad the wars with Voldemort actually were is to know the size of the wizarding population in the UK. Numbers of deceased don't mean much without being able to calculate percentages.
If there are 40 students a year at Hogwarts in 1990s → 400 wizards and witches between ages 10-19
Account for fewer births during and right after the war with Grindelwald in the 1930s-1940s, and the war with Voldemort in the 1970s
Account for longer life acceptancy (Average of 130)
And we get an estimate of something like this:
With wizards being around 0.01% of the muggle population in any country.
The population in Britian in 1991 was 57,359,454, making the wizarding population 57,359*0.01% =~ 5,700
The population in Ireland in 1991 was 5.1 M, making the Irish wizarding population about 510.
So as a rough estimate, we'll say there were ~6,200 wizards and witches in the UK and Ireland together in 1991
Probably less though considering JKR killed most of Harry's grandparents' generation with Dragon Pox....
By the same logic above in the 1970s the Wizarding population in Britain and Ireland was ~5,600 + ~300 = ~5,900 wizards and witches.
So, now we have the estimated size of the population and we can gage how much damage these wars actually caused.
So, I may have compiled a list of all war casualties from both wars. I will not place the full details here (like the exact year each died), but I'll mention sides, who they were killed by, and any other information relevant to understanding the war's influence on wizarding society, and what we can learn from it about Voldemort's intentions.
For these lists:
(M) - muggle (MB) - muggleborn (PB) - pure-blood (HB) - half-blood (O) - other $ - Death Eater or affiliated ^ - Order of the Pheonix member or affiliated Italics - killed against Voldemort's orders
The First War: Surprisingly Targeted
Killed By Voldemort Personally:
~4 unnamed goblins (O)
Dorcas Meadowes (PB/HB)^
James Potter (PB)^
Lily Potter (MB)^
Killed by Death Eaters:
Mr. Bones (PB)^
Mrs. Bones (PB)^
Robert McGonagall (PB)
Marlene McKinnon (PB)^
~4 more unnamed McKinnons (PB)^

Douglas McGregor (M)
2 McGregor Children (M)
Caradoc Dearborn (PB/HB)^
Dean Thomas’ Father (PB)
Edgar Bones' Wife (PB)^
Edgar Bones (PB)^
~2 Edgar Bones' children (PB)^
Benji Fenwick (PB/HB)^
Frank Longbottom (PB)^ - Not dead, but counts
Alice Longbottom (PB)^ - Not dead, but counts
Fabian Prewett (PB)^
Gideon Prewett (PB)^
Killed by the Order of the Pheonix & Aurors:
Evan Rosier (PB)$
Wilkes (PB)$
+ 13 muggles killed by Peter Pettigrew on October 31st, 1981
+ Regulus Black who died in the cave with the Inferi
This lands us at 45 casualties (including the Longbottoms) for the first Wizarding War. Now, let's look more closely at the numbers.
Not counting the muggles and creatures other than wizards lands us at 24
24/5,900 =~ 0.40% of the wizarding population was killed in the first war.
And did you notice anything interesting about the names on the list? There is only 1 muggleborn and 1 muggle family, whose death wasn't even on Voldemort's orders. What does it tell us about the war?
Well, first off, Dumbledore's idea of morality and not using dark magic and lethal curses kind of sucks. This is hardly a war, it's a massacre. 19 Order members and their families die compared to 3 Death Eaters, one of which was killed by Voldemort's creations. Moody and Mr. Weasley aren't kidding when they say the first war was rough in the fifth book. It really was, but only for their side.
The innocent casualties of people not belonging to any side in this war stand at 19 (including the 13 muggles killed by Pettigrew), and 6 (not including Pettigrew).
It's just wild how Peter Pettigrew has the most kills in this war, more than Voldemort. And it tells you a lot about Voldemort's priorities.
His priorities clearly aren't to kill all muggleborns, we can see that much. So what are his priorities? What is he actually waging a war for if it's not to kill all muggleborns like all the characters tell us?
Well, I will post a full rundown of the timeline of the first war at some point, but for now, what we know is that Voldemort is targeting the Order of the Phoenix, who opposed him. And he is in general causing chaos for the Ministry of Magic.
We know that by 1981, Voldemort practically won, with the ministry having more spies of his than any other group. The ministry was made up of Death Eaters. But we don't know of any rules he passed in this time, or moves to legalize dark magic or outlaw muggleborns — nothing like that happened.
What did happen, was that Voldemort made a cave filled with Inferi and experimented with potions (he invented the potion of despair in the cave).
It seems, more than anything, the war was there to distract the ministry or weaken it, and less about accomplishing a specific political goal. And if he was after a specific political goal, then it isn't blood purity as he isn't rounding up muggleborns like in the second war.
The low death count overall (especially when compared to the second war) is because Voldemort is there. Voldemort does not approve of unnecessary death, even muggle one:
“Nice costume, mister!” He saw the small boy’s smile falter as he ran near enough to see beneath the hood of the cloak, saw the fear cloud his painted face. Then the child turned and ran away. . . . Beneath the robe he fingered the hand of his wand. . . One simple movement and the child would never reach his mother. . . but unnecessary, quite unnecessary. . . .
(Deathly Hollows, page 295)
Voldemort himself does not like unnecessary death. He considers it and killing in rage below him at the end of the First Wizarding War. He doesn't do it himself and doesn't let his followers kill unnecessarily up until the night he kills the Potters.
What exactly Voldemort was trying to accomplish is a question I've pondered and have a few more posts about. But understanding he wasn't really after the death of all muggleborns and neither was he after control of Magical Britain, which is made very clear by the second war, is the first step to understanding him.
The Second War: Chaos Galore
Killed By Voldemort Personally:
Bertha Jorkins (PB)
Cedric Diggory (PB)
Bathilda Bagshot (PB)
Charity Burbage (PB/HB)
Alastor Moody (PB)^

+ 42 more casualties for the Battle of Hogwarts.
What we see here is that this second war was much deadlier. The Battle of Hogwarts alone had more casualties than the entirety of the First War. Even if I'm generous and add 20 more dead to my estimate of the First War, it doesn't come anywhere close to the death tool of the Second War.
Now, I ask myself, why?
The Second War was much shorter, officially ongoing between May of 1996 and May of 1998 (2 years), with the First War officially waging from 1975 to October of 1981 (6 years). What was so different between the wars that caused this kind of escalation in the second one this quickly?
We see the Second War unfold, we watch how quickly the Ministry of Magic falls and the Death Eaters take over. They quickly make laws such as the Muggleborn Registry — things that didn't happen in the first war.
“Attendance is now compulsory for every young witch and wizard,” he replied. “That was announced yesterday. It’s a change, because it was never obligatory before. Of course, nearly every witch and wizard in Britain has been educated at Hogwarts, but their parents had the right to teach them at home or send them abroad if they preferred..."
(Deathly Hollows, page 182)
Lupin is talking about the Muggleborn Registry and compulsory attendance to Hogwarts — completely new things, never seen before in Britain. They weren't around the first go-around even if Voldemort had the same amount of control over the ministry (it being made up of his followers even in the 1970s). So, what changed? What's the difference?
I pondered this question, and I realized what the main difference is — Voldemort. He is different. His priorities are different.
In the second war, Voldemort doesn't show any care for the ministry, government, or unnecessary death the way he did in the First War. In the First War he limited his Death Eaters, focusing them on targeting only Order members, but in the Second War, not only did he let them loose, but he let himself loose as well.
And I'll prove just how unconcerned he is with Britain and the war during Deathly Hollows and Half-Blood Prince.
In Half-Blood Prince, when the Death Eaters break into Hogwarts to kill Dumbledore, arguably their biggest achievement in the war thus far, and where is their leader? Off, somewhere. Researching wands so he could kill Harry Potter.
And where is Lord Voldemort, leader of the Death Eaters when his followers take over the ministry and start passing the aforementioned rules? He's in Germany, tracking down the Elder Wand.
“That’s—that’s pretty, Dolores,” she said, pointing at the pendant gleaming in the ruffled folds of Umbridge’s blouse. “What?” snapped Umbridge, glancing down. “Oh yes—an old family heirloom,” she said, patting the locket lying on her large bosom. “The S stands for Selwyn. . . . I am related to the Selwyns. . . . Indeed, there are few pure blood families to whom I am not related. . . . A pity,”
(Deathly Hollows, page 225)
Voldemort is so unaware and un-present in Britain during the time he supposedly rules it, that Dolores Umbridge can strut around the ministry with the locket that is his Horcrux and holds a piece of his soul and is his Slytherin family heirloom and claim it to belong to the Selwyn family and to be hers. And she wasn't tortured horribly to death.
Yeah, Voldemort never stepped foot in the Ministry throughout Deathly Hollows. At least, not until he retrieved the elder Wand and was convinced he could kill Harry.
In the First War, Voldemort had intentions, unrelated to blood purity as they were, but intentions nonetheless. He was actually leading and had goals for the war. In the Second War, it looks like he gave up. Like he decided killing Harry Potter is the only important thing and he isn't even bothering with anything else and lets his Death Eaters do as they please.
Conclusions:
Voldemort didn't really plan to win the Second War, he didn't really care what happened to the Ministry, as long as he could kill Harry Potter whom he is quite obsessed with. Like, he's really weird about Harry Potter, and maybe I'll talk about it more in-depth, but he's obsessed with being the one to kill Harry with a wand of his own, to the point of ignoring literally everything else.
If you are going to fight an opponent that is trying to kill you, you should probably be just as willing to be lethal in turn or you'd end up massacred like the Order of the Phoenix from the 1970s....

✨ Snippet Sunday ✨
Soo, tired of seeing Marlene and Dorcas completely ignored by the fandom in favor of M/M ships, I decided to write a fic about them falling in love (during the first wizarding war, of course).
Here's a snippet, I hope you like it:
She was too busy trying to figure out Dorcas Meadowes.
She felt a twinge of jealousy when she saw fucking Fenwick throw an arm around her. He was at least a head taller than Dorcas.
It was so obvious he was flirting at her. Disgusting.
Everyone knew. And what was worse? Everyone seemed to like the idea of them together.
Dreadful.
Not that Marlene cared. She didn`t care at all.
However, she didn`t think they were a good match. Dorcas was serious and reserved, almost shy. She didn’t like to draw attention to herself, which was ridiculous since she was the most beautiful girl in the Order, probably in the whole country.
And Benjy? He was so normal. Not ugly, but… not relevant enough.
Again, not that Marlene cared.
Dorcas and Benjy could just kiss already, she wouldn`t care. Of course, she would find disgusting, but that just because it`s disgusting to see a beautiful woman kissing a boring normal bloke.
She sighed and closed her eyes.

Chapter 43: Gossip and Disappointment
link here - A surprise Wednesday update! We're changing our posting schedule temporarily to M, W, F - through the end of January!
Snippet:
Family day is delicious. People are so different when they’re around their mothers. So many secrets to learn, and Mary will always be there to soak it all in.
For example, Mary just happens to be in the hallway when Lydia Wood had to explain to her family that she had allowed herself to claimed by Viola Parkinson, and when they asked why they couldn’t see the claim mark, she had to explain that it was on her thigh because Viola bit her while she was eating her out.
Also, Victoria Anglers is apparently pregnant, but refuses to tell her parents who the other parent is. Given the fact that he was hovering around the corner, Mary is fairly certain that it must be Benjy Fenwick. Mary wonders, briefly, if he’s gotten over his pash on Remus, or if this was just a heat of the moment kind of thing that led to the pregnancy.
It is honestly like Christmas for Mary. Absolutely delicious.

but it's not real, and you don't exist
35 ways to say i love you number 13: in a letter | lily evans potter and sirius black (platonic)
this is a part of the 35 ways to say "i love you" writing collection. check out the rest!
PREVIEW/SYNOPSIS:
"I feel like I’m going insane every time I have to write down my memories of another friend to you. It sounds horrid, but above all I dread a day where I’m writing to someone about you. Isn’t that terrible of me? I miss all of the people we’ve lost, and I cared about them, but I didn’t love them the way I love you."
content warnings: main character death, mentioned minor character death, implied/referenced betrayal, suicidal thoughts, loss of loved ones
Dear Padfoot,
James and I cannot for the life of us decide which of these photos to use for our Christmas card this year. Before you laugh, I know it’s early July, and by the time we use them Harry will be double his current size, but we knew this would happen, so we decided to start the whole process early.
How have you been? It feels like it’s been forever since we’ve seen you. I’m sure the Order is keeping you as busy as it’s keeping us, even with Harry. We wrote to Frank and Alice to make sure Dumbledore wasn’t just getting back at us for the bubblegum frogs in Year 5, but they’re swamped too. I told them I’d try to round up a Marauder to double babysit sometime-- I asked Peter since he loves kids so much, but he’s somehow even busier than the rest of us combined. I do miss him dearly, though.
We got the terrible news about Benjy Fenwick last week. I know it’s silly to say, but that night I just lay in bed and thought about how much alike you two looked. I remembered how kind you were to him, even though he was two years younger, and how you’d joke so much about being his brother that even the teachers called him Regulus sometimes. He was quiet, but when he laughed he wouldn’t stop for ages, remember?
I feel like I’m going insane every time I have to write down my memories of another friend to you. It sounds horrid, but above all I dread a day where I’m writing to someone about you. Isn’t that terrible of me? I miss all of the people we’ve lost, and I cared about them, but I didn’t love them the way I love you.
And I do love you, Sirius. If this war has taught me anything, it’s that we need to tell people we love them. More than even a “love you” when you leave, or only remembering the dead by how close they were to you. So I’ll write it again, just in case it keeps you safe: I love you. I love you. I love you.
Please write back with a decision about the card. You know there’s no one’s opinion we value more.
Forever yours,
Lily
7/7/81
Lily,
Oh, my Lily. My James.
It is with great sadness that I am writing this letter to you, doing exactly what we both feared the most-- remembering each other. But no post is allowed outside of this God-forsaken place, and I couldn’t send it to you even if there was.
I can’t believe you’re gone. Every day I wake up and when I see where I am, I wish I was dead, but then I scold myself for even thinking that. It is the worst feeling in the world to be alive and wishing to be dead, when all you really want is to be with your friends again.
A close second on the worst feelings list is that Remus thinks I did it. That is almost as unbearable as losing you. I’ve seen the papers-- the only thing they allow in or out, when the Minister comes by every so often. I can’t tell whether I’m glad or not that I haven’t seen an interview with Remus yet. I don’t think I could bear reading his words. I can’t imagine how he’s feeling. The Marauders disbanded, all in one night. He must be so alone.
I don’t want to talk about the articles I’ve seen about the rat. He doesn’t even deserve to have his name on a letter to you.
Someone died in their cell last night. I used to hear them talking with their neighbors (or maybe cellmates, who can tell?), but they’re quiet now. The Dementors should come and get them soon enough. Maybe the rows of graves will reach outside of my window before I die, so I can at least say grace for the few poor souls near me.
I have no idea where Harry is. I’m so sorry. I’m so, so, so sorry. I couldn’t protect him. I heard that Hagrid got him-- I hope that’s true.
You were always the best of us, Lils. I’m so sorry you had to be taken away from him so early. From James. From your life. And selfishly, most of all from me.
I wish my words could change things. Sometimes, on my bad nights, I lay here and think that if I just try hard enough, I can go back and fix it all. That I could protect you. I once even dreamed the cruelest dream I’ve ever had, where it had worked, and I got to hold your face and say ‘I love you’ again.
This letter will be neatly folded into an envelope shape and put somewhere or other. Where it goes isn’t important-- I’m not keeping it, it’s not FOR me, and I doubt the Dementors will care. Maybe I’ll ask the Minister to put it in a real envelope, unmarked, and give it to an owl. I wonder where these words will end up. Wherever they are, know that I am missing you the same as I am writing them.
I love you, Lily. Miss you, too.
Sirius

ABOUT:
Character name: Benjy Fenwick Age & Birthday: 26 & November 22 Gender & Pronouns: Cis-male & He/Him Occupation: Barista at Borealis Cafe, Ex-Auror Blood status: Muggleborn Previous house: Ravenclaw Affiliation: Order of the Phoenix Face claim: Tom Holland
BIOGRAPHY:
The Fenwick's had always been loving folks. Miriam Fenwick worked as a primary school teacher, and Liam Fenwick was a banker, the couple had been high school sweethearts who married young and always dreamt of having a big family. Although they quickly learned that dream might not be possible for them, as Liam had issues with infertility. This information wouldn't stop them, and they opened their home for foster children, figuring if they couldn't have any of their own, at least they could help children who needed it. It wasn't long before they adopted their first child, Anna, and a second came soon after, Oliver.
Even with their two children, the Fenwick's still took in foster kids as often as possible, knowing they were positively impacting these kids' lives. They loved every child that came into their lives, it didn't matter what situation they came from, every kid deserved to have someone that cared for them. By some miracle, Miriam had found out she was pregnant, and the Fenwick’s were overjoyed to find out another member was being added to the family. Miriam’s pregnancy was a breeze, and Thomas was born happy and healthy. Benjy’s mother, on the other hand, wasn’t so lucky. Her pregnancy was difficult and unfortunately passed away only a few short hours after the birth of her son. Despite the fact that they had a newborn themselves, the Fenwick’s couldn’t turn away a baby the same age as Thomas when asked to foster him.
The plan was only to foster Benjy for a few weeks while social workers attempted to contact his family members, but it seemed the poor child didn’t have any living relatives on his mother’s side, and his father was unknown. At this point, though, the Fenwick’s couldn’t dream of giving Benjy up, having taken care of him for the first few weeks of his life, and the pair adopted him, bringing in the sixth member of the family.
Being only a month apart in age, Benjy and Tommy were incredibly close. Despite the fact that they looked nothing alike, everybody considered them twins. They did absolutely everything together and basically lived in their own little world. Of course they loved their other siblings, but Anna and Oliver were older, and almost ready to move out on their own by the time the boys were ten. The house was never quiet, though, with foster siblings coming in and out of their lives every few weeks. The Fenwick house was always full of love, family and acceptance.
Benjy had known there was something different about him, strange things happened around him whenever he felt strong emotions. The only person he’d told was Tommy, but it became quite difficult for him to hide it. Everything began to make sense on his eleventh birthday, when a woman dressed in eccentric robes showed up at the house, explaining that Benjy was a wizard, and inviting him to attend Hogwarts. Everybody was ecstatic learning that Benjy was special. Everybody but Tommy. Tommy was upset, his best friend would be leaving him, but eventually, he warmed up to the idea after knowing that Benjy would be home for the holidays and summer break.
Arrival at Hogwarts was the most exciting thing young Benjy had ever experienced. Everything was incredible and magical, and he was happy to call the castle his home throughout the school year. He was sorted into Ravenclaw for his wit and his ability to think outside the box. The Ravenclaw commonroom was where he’d had his first encounter with bullying and discrimination. According to some of his housemates, his blood was dirty and he would never be a decent wizard because of it. He never let their hateful words get to him, knowing that kids were bullies due to their own insecurities. Instead, he proved them wrong, coming out as one of the top students in every class. Magic was so interesting, different from the more mundane subjects he’d learned about at his muggle school, and he could retain the information easily since he was actually interested in it.
Eventually, the bullying died down, and Benjy was thriving. He was popular given his ability to find the good in everybody, he was intelligent and still found time to play on the quidditch team as a chaser. However, his favourite time of the year was any time he got to go home and see Tommy, they were still incredibly close despite the fact that they spent the majority of the year apart from each other. They were so close, in fact, that as soon as they both graduated, the two of them moved in together in a small apartment in London. Benjy dove straight into auror training, while Tommy was going to university to study law.
Auror training went well, and he was fast-tracked as a fully certified auror in under a year due to the war. It was hard work, but Benjy was determined and managed to make it through with no complaints. Benjy served as an auror for a few years, and he made his way through the ranks, becoming one of the most notable aurors in the department. But, with a shift in power, changes began happening in the Ministry. The first victims being the auror department. Some lame excuse about too many members on the team and not enough criminals in the streets, but the only people who were let go happened to be muggleborns. Benjy left his position, but not without making a scene first. It wasn’t fair, it wasn’t right, and he wasn’t going to leave without making that known.
Instant regret hit him when he arrived back at his apartment to see the dark mark floating in the sky. His heart sank into the pit of his stomach as he walked in to see his brother on the ground, unmoving. It was the absolute worst day of his life, and Tommy’s funeral was a close second. He decided that day to obliviate his family, remove himself from their memories in order to keep them safe. He couldn’t let what happened to Tommy happen to them. It’s only been a few months since then, and Benjy has been having a hard time adjusting. He managed to find a job, a barista, which wasn’t ideal but it paid the bills. Some day this war would be over, and until then, Benjy was going to do what he could to make things right.

In the cozy Hogwarts of the 70s, where the threat of war is still just the prelude to an untold horror story, four boys meet and an unlikely friendship is forged.
Remus Lupin and Sirius Black are among them. Two opposite poles from different realities, both could not be more different: Lupin is reticent with people, accustomed to the hostility of the world and with no illusions that he will ever fit in, Black was named after the brightest star in a constellation, but his light is constantly overshadowed by the demands of a family that doesn't really see him.
One wears an armor of rebellion to defend himself, the other uses as a shield the disguise of his emotions and most hidden secrets. Together, both will discover that none of this can protects them from the feelings that arise between booth and falling in love in an uncertain world will be as dangerous as inevitable.

possible plots that the hbo max hp series could explore if they choose marauders as a prequel:
lily and severus’ friendship
dorm life with remus and two dumb asses with a groupie, and their eventual brotherhood
severus’ half-blood identity in a predominantly pureblood ideological house, and how mulciber & avery are shitholes

sirius black’s fight against pureblood agenda + abuse from his family
peter pettigrew’s insecurities in the obvious differences between the rest of the boys and him; weight, height, confidence, grades. a slow burn of festering doubt and eventual betrayal
lily and the m’s!!!
marlene mckinnon & dorcas meadowes excellence, with a side of emmeline vance who makes marlene a bit jealous
war tensions
REMUS LUPIN’S LYCANTHROPY. show remus as a stuttering nervous little boy and his journey to how he comes out of his shell. show the horrors of his transformations and not copy the teen wolf-esque werewolf trope.
quidditch matches and rivalry
the black brothers: sirius and regulus’ conflict
the evans sisters: lily and petunia’s estrangement
pranks + animagus training + map making + cloak escapades + forbidden forest adventures + comedic relief in classes

@elvensorceress wanted to know more about my wolfstar fics... 🥰
This post may get a bit long. But it’ll be worth it. Here we go, honey...
We Won’t Be Like The Others is an AU. “They were all muggles” type of thing. Anyway, Remus isn’t thrilled by the prospect of his 10 year High School reunion approaching. Mostly because the idea of seeing and interacting with his former classmates when he’s still single, especially ex-boyfriend Benjy Fenwick, is the last thing he wants to do. Enter former classmate Sirius who convinces Remus to attend the reunion as his fake boyfriend to make Benjy jealous.
This fic not only has one of my favorite tropes (fake!boyfriend), but bed sharing (yay!), flirting, some texting, James and Lily both being adorable together, soft boys, PDA, and Sirius using endearments for Remus simply because upfront it irritates him.
Here’s a little snippet from the first chapter:
He reared back in disgust watching Sirius leer at him. A moment later he realized Sirius wasn’t in fact looking at him. Twisting himself around in the booth he sat in he quickly realized the man wasn’t focused on him at all, but a couple roughly their age, sitting down at a far table.
“Proof right there, Remus, that there is a goddess who loves bisexuals like yours truly and only wishes to fulfill aforementioned bisexual’s fantasies with some much-needed eye-candy. Stellar stuff,” Sirius declared eagerly, nearly drooling by the look of it. “But as luck would have it they’re not sitting in my section. Bollocks.”
“Revolting,” Remus muttered to himself, revulsion flooding his features. “Were you even listening to me?” he demanded in an attempt to derail Sirius’s lust-filled daydreams.
“Course I was, darling. Something along the lines of you being insecure about meeting up with everyone again when you’re single? Guess you were right. You’re not over the drama of high school,” Sirius said, finally leveling his gaze with Remus again.
Remus stared at him in disbelief. “That wasn’t my… Don’t call me that!” he snapped irritably.
“Aww, come on, Remus. If I can’t call you ‘mate’ or some other form of affection what the bloody hell am I supposed to call you?” Sirius grumbled in frustration.
“Nothing preferably,” Remus growled.
I Would Ruin Myself is another Muggle AU. The Marauders get invited by James to his aunt and uncle’s summer house that they have in the U.S. (Rhode Island if you’re curious about specifics). Lily and her friends Mary, Dorcas and Marlene are all invited as well. Some chaos (teenaged hormones and angst basically), confessions, such supportive friends, coming out, heartache and unrequited love that’s not really unrequited happens.
This one. Ugh. What can I say about it? I’m just...I’m madly in love with it all right? I’ve wanted to write a fic like this since I was in my twenties. Just took Taylor Swift, a pandemic and me going through “I need my people” withdrawal to make it a reality. And one of my favorite parts about this fic that was a pleasant surprise was Remus and Peter, their friendship, how I’m writing them. I love it so much. And I also adore Remus and Dorcas together. Not sure if it’s because everyone within their friend group think they’re “getting closer” in the hetero sense or if they really are due to their friendship.
Have a snippet:
“Excuse me,” he mumbled, getting to his feet, heading back in the direction of the house.
Once there he slowly climbed the stairs, making himself comfortable on the top step, letting loose a heavy sigh as he buried his face in his hands.
Just as he was about to start crying from the frustration he was currently feeling, he drew in a sharp breath hearing the sounds of someone clearing their throat in front of him.
“’m all right, Pete. Promise, mate,” he mumbled, keeping his face covered by his hands when he spoke, hoping his lies would be enough to satisfy his friend into leaving him alone.
“All right. But you should know I’m not Peter,” the person in front of him volunteered.
Slowly dropping his hands into his lap, Remus looked on in surprise as Dorcas stood in front of him.
“Oh. Sorry, Dorcas,” he apologized, giving the girl before him a bashful smile.
“’s all right, Remus. Would you like some company?” Dorcas asked.
Remus sighed again, softly in resignation, nodding his acquiescence as he gave Dorcas another weak smile. “Why not?” he finally questioned aloud, amusement flooding his features as Dorcas climbed the stairs and settled down next to him a moment later.
“Do you mind me confessing something?” Dorcas asked, looping her arm through Remus’s as she spoke.
Remus shrugged, his gaze drifting upward, focusing on the blanket of stars above them briefly before returning his attention to the girl at his side. “All right then. Perfect night for it,” he encouraged gently.
“I fancy her, Remus. Marlene. And it-it’s killing me a little watching her and Sirius together. And I feel awful about that because I’m supposed to be her best friend and want her to be happy, yeah? But I’m also a bit jealous if I’m being honest. I don’t know. I figured you’d have some understanding of what I’m feeling because you-you have feelings for Sirius, don’t you?” Dorcas whispered hoarsely, fighting off tears that were suddenly welling in her eyes.
Remus swallowed thickly, eventually nodding again. “Yes. Yes, I do,” he admitted quietly, relieved to feel a sense of relief wash over him instead of the familiar sense of dread he’d grown accustomed to feeling as of late whenever he thought about Sirius and his more than platonic feelings for his best friend.
Hopefully me rambling about these two fics with you will get me motivated to keep working on them. I do love them and want to get back into these worlds.
But another quick surprise? That original story with Reagan and Oliver I keep talking about? And how it started off as fic? Yeah, it was originally Wolfstar. Ugh. I love these boys so much. Could talk about them all night. Thanks for the ask, hon!! Gave me an excuse to do just that. 🥰💜

Chapter Six: Hidden Nightmares.
"Prefect, eh?" growled Moody, his normal eye on Ron and his magical eye swivelling around to gaze into the side of his head. Harry had the very uncomfortable feeling it was looking at him and moved away toward Sirius and Lupin.
"Well, congratulations," said Moody, still glaring at Ron with his normal eye, "authority figures always attract trouble, but I suppose Dumbledore thinks you can withstand most major jinxes or he wouldn't have appointed you..."
Mel took her friend away from Moody in case he decided to continue trying to scare him to death.
"I was never a prefect myself," said Tonks as she walked past them. "My Head of House said I lacked certain necessary qualities."
"Like what?" said Ginny.
"Like the ability to behave myself."
"Same reason why Mel didn't get a badge," Emily walked past her daughter. "I hope this works as a lesson..."
"Sure does, now I know I'm doing something right," Mel smirked.
"What about you, Sirius?" Ginny asked.
"No one would have made me a prefect! I spent too much time in detention with James. Lupin was the good boy, he got the badge."
"I think Dumbledore might have hoped that I would be able to exercise some control over my best friends," said Lupin. "I need scarcely say that I failed dismally."
"What about my dad?"
"Matthew was a brilliant student but Dumbledore knew that giving him the badge would've been like given us green light to go around doing whatever we pleased," Sirius grinned.
"Again, same the reason why Dumbledore didn't give you a badge," Lupin smiled.
"You really think I would let my friends do mischief without any consequences?" Mel feigned indignation.
"Yes," The three adults replied.
"Well, I think I'll sort out that boggart before I turn in... Arthur, I don't want this lot up too late, all right? 'Night, dears."
Mel walked into Harry just as he was getting up and she stumbled backwards.
"Sorry," He said quickly.
"It's fine..."
"You all right?" Moody asked them.
"Yeah, fine."
"Lovely dinner," Mel smiled tensely.
"Come here, I've got something that might interest you," He told them.
From an inner pocket of his robes Moody pulled a very tattered old Wizarding photograph.
"Original Order of the Phoenix," growled Moody. "Found it last night when I was looking for my spare Invisibility Cloak, seeing as Podmore hasn't had the manners to return my best one... Thought people might like to see it."
Harry took the photograph and Mel leaned closer to take a look.
"There's me," said Moody. "And there's Dumbledore beside me, Dedalus Diggle on the other side... That's Marlene McKinnon, she was killed two weeks after this was taken, they got her whole family. That's Frank and Alice Longbottom — Poor devils, better dead than what happened to them... and that's Emmeline Vance, you've met her, and that there's Lupin, obviously... Benjy Fenwick, he copped it too, we only ever found bits of him... shift aside there–
That's Edgar Bones... brother of Amelia Bones, they got him and his family too, he was a great wizard... Sturgis Podmore, blimey, he looks young... Caradoc Dearborn vanished six months after this, we never found his body... Hagrid, of course, looks exactly the same as ever... Elphias Doge, you've met him, I'd forgotten he used to wear that stupid hat... Gideon Prewett, it took five Death Eaters to kill him and his brother Fabian, they fought like heroes... budge along, budge along... That's Dumbledore's brother, Aberforth, only time I ever met him, strange bloke..."
It was the first time she'd ever seen of her grandfather. He looked a lot like Dumbledore, but he lacked the warm gaze and the fancy robes. He had the same hair colour as her though, and there was a similarity between his nose and her dad's.
"That's Dorcas Meadowes, Voldemort killed her personally... Sirius, when he still had short hair... and... there you go, thought that would interest you! Eh?"
Five people were staring up at them: Petter Pettigrew, Lily and James Potter, and her own parents.
"That's great," She tried to sound enthusiastic. "Look at that..."
"Yeah," Harry's voice sounded heavy. "Er... listen, I've just remembered, I haven't packed my..."
"What's that you've got there, Mad-Eye?" Sirius asked loudly from the table.
Harry left so quickly she almost thought he'd disapparated, she understood though, that picture was full of ghosts, and for some reason, she felt kind of responsible for them– maybe Harry felt that way too, after all, it was him Voldemort was after...
The adults surrounded the table and stared at the picture, there were tons of quiet exclamations and nostalgic chuckles as they examined it, but what made her leave the room was the way she knew her mother and Sirius had finally found their friends' faces staring up at them, she could see something dark and heavy falling on their features.
Mel didn't feel like sticking around to hear stories about when they were all young and alive, when Peter was still Peter and not the traitor that had gotten his friends killed. It was stupid to remember something they couldn't have back.
She was in the main hall when she heard someone crying.
"No! No... riddikulus! Riddikulus! RIDDIKULUS !"
Mel ran up the stairs and found Harry looking at Mrs Weasley... She was sobbing above a second Harry, only that this one was dead.
'Boggart', Mel thought.
"Harry, we need to get help–"
"Mrs Weasley, just get out of here!" Harry's eyes fixed on the vision of his own body. "Let someone else —"
"What's going on?" Lupin rushed in followed by Sirius and Emily. Moody was right behind them."Riddikulus!"
Mrs Weasley wept harder.
"Molly– Molly, don't... Molly, it was just a boggart," Lupin patted her head gently. "Just a stupid boggart..."
"I see them d-d-dead all the time! All the t-t-time! I d-d-dream about it..."
She had been dreaming the same thing that summer– hell, her boggart had been the same thing years before that! Seeing it again that night caught her off guard. A thousand different images of Harry trapped in the cemetery came to her, the pain she'd felt that night, the memory of Cedric's body laying on the grass...
She tried to get out of the room as fast as possible.
"D-d-don't tell Arthur– I d-d-don't want him to know... Being silly... Harry, I'm so sorry, what must you think of me? Not even able to get rid of a boggart..."
"Don't be stupid," said Harry, sounding impressively calm.
"I'm just s-s-so worried– Half the f-f-family's in the Order, it'll b-b-be a miracle if we all come through this... and P-P-Percy's not talking to us... What if something d-d-dreadful happens and we had never m-m-made up? And what's going to happen if Arthur and I get killed, who's g-g-going to look after Ron and Ginny?"
"Molly, that's enough," said Lupin. "This isn't like last time. The Order is better prepared, we've got a head start, we know what Voldemort's up to — Oh, Molly, come on, it's about time you got used to hearing it — look, I can't promise no one's going to get hurt, nobody can promise that, but we're much better off than we were last time, you weren't in the Order then, you don't understand, last time we were outnumbered twenty to one by the Death Eaters and they were picking us off one by one..."
"Don't worry about Percy," said Sirius. "He'll come round. It's a matter of time before Voldemort moves into the open; once he does, the whole Ministry's going to be begging us to forgive them. And I'm not sure I'll be accepting their apology..."
"And as for who's going to look after Ron and Ginny if you and Arthur died," Lupin looked up to Emily and smiled a bit, "what do you think we'd do, let them starve?"
"Certainly not!" Emily kneeled beside her, hugging her by the shoulders. "Not after all you've done for us! After seeing how much you care about Harry! You're one of the best friends I've had in a long time, I would never abandon your children..."
Harry turned and locked eyes with Mel. He had a distraught expression on his face as he watched her cover her mouth, struggling to breathe.
One time when she was six, Mel had to be taken to the nurse because some kids cornered her in the playground and she lost it; a teacher carried her out. When her mother arrived they told her Mel had suffered a panic attack.
A panic attack wasn't exactly a good omen nor the best way to spend her last night before going back to school, but she had no control over it.
"Deep breaths, Mel..." Harry muttered, quickly making his way towards her. "It's okay–"
The boy tried to touch her and that stirred her into action. Mel slapped his hand out of the way and ran out before someone could stop her. She ran up all the way to Buckbeak's layer and she locked herself there until her crying stopped.
"WILL YOU LOT GET DOWN HERE NOW, PLEASE!" Mrs Weasley yelled.
Mel let out a pained groan, her head was pounding after last night and all she wanted was to get to the train so she could take a nap. Mrs Black's portrait was howling, but no one tried to close the curtains since the house was loud with voices coming from every floor, all gathering their stuff before leaving.
"I'm dying," The girl leaned on her mother's shoulder. The woman ran her fingers through her hair tenderly.
"You had a rough night. Been years since you had one of those..."
"It was the stupid boggart," She muttered. "I'm okay now. I'll see Erick, so that's kind of cool..."
"You and Harry haven't talked, then?"
"Mum..."
"I'm not trying to force you–"
"Oh, for heaven's sake, Sirius, Dumbledore said no!"
A dog ran into the hall, looking rather lively.
"Oh honestly... well, on your own head be it!"
Mrs Weasley, Emily, Mel, Harry and Sirius all left the house together.
"Where's Tonks?" Harry asked.
"She's waiting for us just up here," said Mrs Weasley.
"Wotcher, guys," Tonks -disguised as an old woman- winked at them. "Better hurry up, hadn't we?"
"I know, I know... but Mad-Eye wanted to wait for Sturgis... If only Arthur could have got us cars from the Ministry again... but Fudge wouldn't let him borrow so much as an empty ink bottle these days... How Muggles can stand travelling without magic..."
Sirius was having the time of his life though, running around chasing pigeons and barking loudly. Mel and Harry laughed at his antics, Emily rolled her eyes and mumbled something about him being a child.
As they walked through the streets watching Sirius chase cats and go crazy with the poor birds, she felt Harry glancing at her from time to time. Mel knew he only wanted to help, and perhaps he was a little hurt about the way she'd reacted last night. However, she was far from even acknowledging that she'd cried in front of so many people.
"I felt it, you know?" Harry said when no one was paying attention. "Your panic attack..."
"I figured," Mel said numbly. "It's the lifeline... doesn't matter, I have it under control."
"I could've helped," He insisted. "When we were little–"
"We're not little anymore," She replied sternly. "You handle your stuff, I handle mine. That's what we agreed on."
Harry's jaw clenched, he didn't speak after that.
It felt like a type of rebirth when she crossed the platform and found herself in front of the scarlet train.
"I hope the others make it in time," said Mrs Weasley.
"Nice dog, guys!" called Lee Jordan.
"Thanks, Lee," said Harry.
Sirius made a show of himself, acting as the perfect puppy.
"Mel, come here for a moment," Emily drew her away from the group, looking anxious.
"What is it?"
"I didn't say anything until now because I didn't want to make you uncomfortable during your stay but... oh, well..."
She noticed how her mother glanced at Sirius, who was rolling around at Harry's feet.
"Mum... Are you and Sirius... a thing?"
Her mother hesitated.
"I know you've noticed how... I mean, we've... we're not exactly together."
"Oh," She frowned. "Why not?"
"What?"
"If you want to be a couple, then be one."
"I... you... you're not upset?"
Mel gave her a small smile. "You deserve to be happy. I want you to be happy. If being with Sirius gives you that, I have nothing against it. He's a good man– bit stubborn, but he treats you well, right?"
"He was always a good friend..."
"I hope all goes well, then."
The woman stared as if she'd mistaken Mel for someone else.
"You have more of Matthew than you could ever have of me, you know?" Emily beamed. "I'm thankful for that."
"Sirius would be an idiot if he rejects you, to be honest."
Her mother laughed.
"Don't get your hopes up about this, though..."
"I trust you," Mel brushed it off, hugging her one last time before going back to the group.
Five minutes later Lupin was wishing her a safe journey. Mel held onto him tightly, his scent filling her lungs.
"I'm going to miss you lots," She mumbled against his chest.
"You'll see me soon," Lupin rubbed her back. "Now, just because you weren't made a prefect doesn't mean you're allowed to misbehave. Make us proud."
Sirius ran up to her and crashed against her legs, she kneeled and hugged him as well.
"I'll miss you too, Snuffles... look after my mother while I'm gone, okay?"
He barked, snuggling his face closer to hers.
"Well, look after yourselves," Lupin told the rest of the teenagers. "You too, Harry. Be careful."
"Yeah, keep your head down and your eyes peeled," said Moody. "And don't forget, all of you — careful what you put in writing. If in doubt, don't put it in a letter at all."
"It's been great meeting all of you," said Tonks. "We'll see you soon, I expect."
"Quick, quick," said Mrs Weasley as the whistle blew a second time. "Write... Be good... If you've forgotten anything we'll send it on... Onto the train, now, hurry..."
For one brief moment, the great black dog reared onto its hind legs and placed its front paws on Harry's shoulders, but Mrs Weasley shoved Harry away toward the train door hissing, "For heaven's sake act more like a dog, Sirius!"
"See you!" Harry yelled from the door.
The black dog chased the train barking madly until they turned, then he vanished.
"He shouldn't have come with us," Hermione murmured.
"Oh lighten up, he hasn't seen daylight for months, poor bloke," Ron shook his head.
"Well, can't stand around chatting all day, we've got business to discuss with Lee. Are you coming with us, Lady?" Fred asked.
"Maybe later," She shrugged.
"All right, see you later!"
"Shall we go and find a compartment, then?" Harry asked.
"Er..."
"We're — well — Ron and I are supposed to go into the prefect carriage," Hermione said awkwardly.
Suddenly Mel felt really bad about not going with Fred and George.
"Oh," Harry tensed next to her. "Right. Fine."
"I don't think we'll have to stay there all journey," said the girl. "Our letters said we just get instructions from the Head Boy and Girl and then patrol the corridors from time to time."
"Fine– Well, we... might see you later, then."
"Yeah, definitely. It's a pain having to go down there, I'd rather — but we have to — I mean, I'm not enjoying it, I'm not Percy."
"I know you're not," said Harry.
"I'll tell Erick you say hi, Mel," Hermione offered, thinking that would ease her mind.
"Brilliant," She said without much excitement.
"Come on," Ginny spoke, Mel felt immense relief as she turned to look at the girl, "if we get a move on we'll be able to save them places."
"Right," said Harry, and he looked as pleased as her.
After a while of silent walking, they ran into Neville, which was even better, more people to talk to.
"Hi, guys– Hi, Ginny... Everywhere's full... I can't find a seat..."
"What are you talking about?" said Ginny. "There's room in this one, there's only Loony Lovegood in here —"
"I don't want to disturb anyone..."
"Don't be silly," Ginny chuckled. "She's all right."
They all followed her inside.
"Hi, Luna! Is it okay if we take these seats?"
The girl beside the window looked up. She had straggly, waist-length, dirty-blond hair, very pale eyebrows, and protuberant eyes that gave her a permanently surprised look. Harry knew at once why Neville had chosen to pass this compartment by. The girl gave off an aura of distinct dottiness. Perhaps it was the fact that she had stuck her wand behind her left ear for safekeeping, or that she had chosen to wear a necklace of butterbeer caps, or that she was reading a magazine upside down. Her eyes ranged over Neville and came to rest on Harry. She nodded.
"Thanks," said Ginny.
In the middle of all the movement of putting away trunks and pets, Mel and Harry somehow found themselves seated together. The girl thought it'd look suspicious if she were to move now, it would confirm that she was actively avoiding him.
"Had a good summer, Luna?" Ginny asked.
"Yes. Yes, it was quite enjoyable, you know. You're Harry Potter."
"I know I am," said Harry, frowning slightly.
Her eyes then moved to the next person, which happened to be her.
"You're a Dumbledore."
"Yeah, people keep saying that," Mel said.
Luna moved to Neville. "And I don't know who you are."
"I'm nobody," He said.
"No you're not," said Ginny. "Neville Longbottom — Luna Lovegood. Luna's in my year, but in Ravenclaw."
"Wit beyond measure is man's greatest treasure," sang Luna.
"Guess what I got for my birthday?" Neville asked them.
"Another Remembrall?" Harry teased.
"No– I could do with one, though, I lost the old one ages ago... No, look at this... Mimbulus mimbletonia."
"Sick!" Mel beamed. "Er- in a good way..."
"It's really, really rare," said Neville excitedly. "I don't know if there's one in the greenhouse at Hogwarts, even. I can't wait to show it to Professor Sprout. My great-uncle Algie got it for me in Assyria. I'm going to see if I can breed from it."
"If you do manage, I'd love to have one," Mel eyed the plant with interest.
Harry did a strange noise next to her and she stared back, daring him to speak.
"Does it — er — do anything?" He asked, glancing nervously at her.
"Loads of stuff! It's got an amazing defensive mechanism — hold Trevor for me..."
Neville put the toad on Harry's hands. Luna was staring again.
Neville held the Mimbulus mimbletonia up to his eyes, his tongue between his teeth, chose his spot and gave the plant a sharp prod with the tip of his quill.
Liquid squirted from every boil on the plant, thick, stinking, dark-green jets of it; they hit the ceiling, the windows, and spattered Luna Lovegood's magazine. Ginny, who had flung her arms up in front of her face just in time, merely looked as though she was wearing a slimy green hat, but Harry, whose hands had been busy preventing the escape of Trevor, received a face full. It smelled like rancid manure.
Neville, whose face and torso were also drenched, shook his head to get the worst out of his eyes.
"S-sorry," he gasped. "I haven't tried that before... Didn't realize it would be quite so... Don't worry, though, Stinksap's not poisonous," he added nervously, as Harry spat a mouthful onto the floor.
Mel cackled, cleaning her face without an ounce of grumpiness.
"That was amazing!"
The door of their compartment slid open abruptly.
"Oh... hello, Harry. Um... bad time?" Cho stared at the lot with an anxious expression.
"Oh... hi," Harry quickly tried to clean his face.
"It's a terrible time," Mel said brightly, "We stink."
"Um... well... just thought I'd say hello... 'bye then."
Cho Chang was blushing when she closed the door. She heard Harry groan and fall back on his seat.
"Never mind," said Ginny. "Look, we can get rid of all this easily. Scourgify!"
"Sorry," said Neville timidly.
"Don't be, that was really interesting to watch," Mel smiled.
Neville blushed at her comment.
"I'm starving," Ron walked in, Mel quickly made room between her and Harry, which he took without even noticing.
"Well, there are two fifth-year prefects from each House," said Hermione. "Boy and girl from each."
"And guess who's a Slytherin prefect?" said Ron.
"Malfoy," replied Harry.
" 'Course," Ron made a face.
"And that complete cow Pansy Parkinson," said Hermione to Mel. "How she got to be a prefect when she's thicker than a concussed troll..."
"Cheating of course," Mel shrugged.
"Who's Hufflepuff?" Harry asked.
"Ernie Macmillan and Hannah Abbott," said Ron.
"And Anthony Goldstein and Padma Patil for Ravenclaw," said Hermione. "Oh! Erick seemed fine, Mel– couldn't talk to him because of Malfoy, of course..."
"We're supposed to patrol the corridors every so often," Ron explained, "and we can give out punishments if people are misbehaving. I can't wait to get Crabbe and Goyle for something..."
"You're not supposed to abuse your position, Ron!"
"Yeah, right, because Malfoy won't abuse it at all."
"So you're going to descend to his level?"
"No, I'm just going to make sure I get his mates before he gets mine."
"For heaven's sake, Ron —"
"He's not being unfair, is he?" Mel defended him. "If anyone deserves detention, that's them..."
"I'll make Goyle do lines, it'll kill him, he hates writing," Ron then pretended to be the Slytherin. "I... must... not... look... like... a... baboon's... backside..."
Everyone laughed, but nobody laughed harder than Luna Lovegood. She let out a scream of mirth that caused Hedwig to wake up and flap her wings indignantly and Crookshanks to leap up into the luggage rack, hissing. She laughed so hard that her magazine slipped out of her grasp, slid down her legs, and onto the floor.
"That was funny!"
Her prominent eyes swam with tears as she gasped for breath, staring at Ron. Utterly nonplussed, he looked around at the others, who were now laughing at the expression on Ron's face and at the ludicrously prolonged laughter of Luna Lovegood, who was rocking backward and forward, clutching her sides.
"Are you taking the mickey?"
"Baboon's... backside!"
"Hey, Lovegood," Mel grinned. "We're going to be great friends..."
"Can I have a look at this?" Harry asked Luna. He was staring at the magazine she'd dropped. "Mel, have a look at this, will you?"
He was showing her an article over Ron's shoulder.
SIRIUS - Black As He's Painted?
Notorious Mass Murderer OR Innocent Singing Sensation?
For fourteen years Sirius Black has been believed guilty of the mass murder of twelve innocent Muggles and one wizard. Black's audacious escape from Azkaban two years ago has led to the widest manhunt ever conducted by the Ministry of Magic. None of us has ever questioned that he deserves to be recaptured and handed back to the dementors.
BUT DOES HE?
"What is this?" Mel asked, her voice slightly shaking with contained laughter.
"Hang on," Harry said distractedly. "This one's about Fudge.."
Cornelius Fudge, the Minister of Magic, denied that he had any plans to take over the running of the Wizarding Bank, Gringotts, when he was elected Minister of Magic five years ago. Fudge has always insisted that he wants nothing more than to "cooperate peacefully" with the guardians of our gold.
BUT DOES HE?
Sources close to the Minister have recently disclosed that Fudge's dearest ambition is to seize control of the goblin gold supplies and that he will not hesitate to use force if need be.
"It wouldn't be the first time, either," said a Ministry insider. "Cornelius 'Goblin-Crusher' Fudge, that's what his friends call him..."
"Anything good in there?" asked Ron.
"Of course not," said Hermione. "The Quibbler's rubbish, everyone knows that."
"Excuse me," said Luna. "My father's the editor."
Mel had to bit her lip to not make a sound.
"I — oh. Well... it's got some interesting... I mean, it's quite..."
"I'll have it back, thank you," Luna took back the magazine and buried her face behind it.
The door to the compartment opened again.
"What?" Harry snapped at Malfoy.
"Manners, Potter, or I'll have to give you a detention... You see, I, unlike you, have been made a prefect, which means that I, unlike you, have the power to hand out punishments."
"Yeah, but you, unlike me, are a git, so get out and leave us alone."
The group laughed. Mel felt something crawling up her chest, ready to pounce.
"Tell me, how does it feel being second-best to Weasley, Potter?"
"Shut up, Malfoy," said Hermione.
"I seem to have touched a nerve... Well, just watch yourself, Potter, because I'll be dogging your footsteps in case you step out of line."
"Get out!" said Hermione sharply.
Mel's heart skipped a beat.
Dogging.

benjy fenwick is eighteen years old and is a proud member of the ravenclaw and is in senior year. ben looks a lot like john karna and is a taken character.
» BIOGRAPHY
Elas eram o porto seguro do Benjy.
