Griffin:  I didn’t; I thought that unless I wanted to be dependent on the goodwill of strangers all my life—

Arthur:  Strangers indeed!

Griffin:  Yes, yes, of course I’m grateful, but I thought I ought to try for something that may actually earn me money. So I thought of semaphore and lanterns and whatnot, and all the blasted fog…

Jack:  Can this one be used?  It looks unfinished.  

Griffin:  I haven’t finished the casing; it’s a prototype, a touch more complicated than the other.  You have to be careful of the wires—

Griffin: …Maybe I’d best run this one.  Though only if I get to be in a ship I can’t fall out of.

Griffin: You’re sharp, Mrs. Harker—could you man the other?

Mina: I’d be honored!

Mina:  Captain Nemo asked for certain members of his crew to join us on Arthur’s ship, and allows that we may split our party to join him on the Nautilus.

Jekyll:  I can see the advantage in that…but how will you communicate with each other?

Panel 2

Mina:  That’s a good point.  Perhaps Morse code?  But how to get a signal through when the Nautilus is submerged?

Panel 3

Griffin: I have the answer to that—Don’t look so surprised!  You know damn well I’m good for more than mere burglary!

Panel 4

Griffin:  The Nemo-phone’s a clever little thing, but this mission calls for more than one-way communication.

Jack:  I can’t believe we’re calling it that…

Griffin: The solution… is THIS!

Jekyll: —The blazes!

Griffin: Pfffthahaha! The looks on your faces! Ahaha...Perhaps I should have given you protective glasses, too.

Irene: I suppose this will do more than simply blind us?

Griffin (offscreen): Of course! These devices can be used to signal in Morse code; they can penetrate fog, rain, and up to 50 meters of water!

Griffin: And I’ve just finished implementing the sound, allowing the receiver to listen rather than stare endlessly.

HOLY SHIT

So I’m really really enjoying @mayhemchicken / @lxgentlefolkcomic ‘s comic “The League of Extraordinary Gentlefolk” which is everything I wanted the Moore comic to be (e.g. actually faithful to the characters personalities in the canon books) and so of course I had to design a fancy cover for it xD

The profiles are of the characters that have been said to make up the main team in the comic (not all have shown up yet) but there’s Irene Adler-Norton on top, the two happily married Harkers side by side beneath her, the Invisible Man in the middle with Dr Seward on the right and Dr Jekyll (with the shadow of Hyde) on the left and Capt. Nemo in the bottom!

Jonathan:  We follow the clues we have.  I told the Captain that we would search on land while he searches the ocean—

Griffin:  You can’t be serious!  That such a thing is possible—Did he give you just the one?  If not I could disassemble—

Irene:  It didn’t seem relevant before, but a ship of that description passed us by after the storm.  Lord Godalming, you mentioned you knew the owner?

Arthur: Colonel Sebastian Moran: big-game hunter and top-notch tosser.

Arthur:  But beyond that, I don’t know much about the man. We don’t quite mingle in the same company.

Irene:  A pity Mr. Holmes is out of the country. He and Dr. Watson were engaged by some lord to look into some odd tomb-robbings in Bavaria.

Irene: He means they were in love, Griffin.

Griffin: Ohh! Then why didn’t you just say so?

Mina: That is hardly a shock, Dr. Jekyll. That is, let’s say I have encountered it before.

Jekyll: This diary… has been most elucidating, I will not deny. It certainly explains the attacks of a few years ago, but not the most recent attacks.

Irene (offscreen): Why not?

Panel 2

Jekyll: That greenish substance, for one. You mentioned it was found on the wreckage of these attacks, but the good professor makes no mention of it—only of an electric light, which would leave no such residue.

Panel 3

Irene: A light—! I thought I saw one beneath the water during the storm, when we were trying to find…

Mina: Please, Dr. Jekyll, tell us all you can.

Jekyll: *sigh* Very well. As you suspected, Mrs. Norton, there is far more to Professor Aronnax’s journey than he has shared publicly, beginning from the moment he was lost overboard.

Jekyll, narrating: They were saved in an extraordinary fashion—brought aboard a vessel that travels under the sea. The captain, who called himself ‘Nemo’, was… a queer fellow, with many secrets. He refused to release them, lest the secret of his existence be discovered.

Panel 6

Griffin: A submarine! The old man’s less dull than I thought! How’d he get away, after all that?

Jekyll: He released them, though not until after seriously endangering their lives.

Panel 7

Jekyll, narrating: The three men were treated well—the professor most of all. Yet while voyaging near the South Pole, the ship became trapped under the ice, and the professor nearly suffocated. The captain became moody and avoided their company; then without explanation, freed them on an island off the coast of South America.
