This song has definite Jonathon and Mina vibes
Love of mine Someday you will die But I'll be close behind I'll follow you into the dark
The time for sleep is now But it's nothing to cry about 'Cause we'll hold each other soon In the blackest of rooms
If there's no one beside you when your soul embarks Then I'll follow you into the dark

My fave quote from today's email:
“I’ll give them armed force... I’ll ‘overresist’ them!” uttered Rostóv meaninglessly, breathless with irrational animal fury and the need to vent it. Without considering what he would do he moved unconciously with quick, resolute steps toward the crowd. And the nearer he drew to it the more Alpátych felt that this unreasonable action might produce good results. The peasants in the crowd were similarly impressed when they saw Rostóv’s rapid, firm steps and resolute, frowning face.
And then, without further ado, he has them all tying each other up so that he can get on unhindered with the job of evacuating Princess Mary. He just controls them all with the sheer force of his will.

Note
Also perhaps his wonderful sarcasm and delightful euphemisms.
Useful for talking to his boss ‘in code’, in front of the clients
Jonathan is Like That because he has worked on customer service
This is such a good take, thank you for this fhskdj
Jonathan payed his way through school working the front desk at Hawkins law firm, politely explaining to people over and over that I'm very sorry but Mr Hawkins doesn't have any appointments available in the next 3 minutes, yes I understand that it's very important but he can't 'just pretend there was a witness' to sign the contract to hurry things along, no I'm afraid I haven't prepared the thirty copies of the document you asked for yet because it's only been six seconds and it's a thousand pages long and that has given him two things: a polite smile in the face of unreasonable clients, which is how he survived Castle Dracula, and a deeply buried simmering rage towards said clients, which is how he could jump at him holding a knife with no hesitation.

Prince Andrew facing death
“It would be good,” thought Prince Andrew, glancing at the icon his sister had hung round his neck with such emotion and reverence, “it would be good if everything were as clear and simple as it seems to Mary. How good it would be to know where to seek for help in this life, and what to expect after it beyond the grave! How happy and calm I should be if I could now say: ‘Lord, have mercy on me!’... But to whom should I say that? Either to a Power indefinable, incomprehensible, which I not only cannot address but which I cannot even express in words—the Great All or Nothing-” said he to himself, “or to that God who has been sewn into this amulet by Mary! There is nothing certain, nothing at all except the unimportance of everything I understand, and the greatness of something incomprehensible but all-important.”
Jonathan Harker facing death
The chances are desperate, but my need is more desperate still. I shall risk it. At the worst it can only be death; and a man's death is not a calf's, and the dreaded Hereafter may still be open to me. God help me in my task! Good-bye, Mina, if I fail; good-bye, my faithful friend and second father; good-bye, all, and last of all Mina!
These may be the last words I ever write in this diary. I slept till just before the dawn, and when I woke threw myself on my knees, for I determined that if Death came he should find me ready.

Dracula Daily/Whale Weekly Crossover
Seward’s thought development:
1 July: This gave me an idea, or the rudiment of one. I must watch how he gets rid of his spiders.
8 July: There is a method in his madness, and the rudimentary idea in my mind is growing. It will be a whole idea soon, and then, oh, unconscious cerebration!
July 20: The thought that has been buzzing about my brain lately is complete, and the theory proved.
Van Helsing’s thought development:
28 October: A half-thought has been buzzing often in my brain, but I fear to let him loose his wings. Here now, with more knowledge, I go back to where that half-thought come from and I find that he be no half-thought at all; that be a whole thought, though so young that he is not yet strong to use his little wings. Nay, like the "Ugly Duck" of my friend Hans Andersen, he be no duck-thought at all, but a big swan-thought that sail nobly on big wings, when the time come for him to try them.
 Ahab’s thought development:
Chapter 36: Did you fixedly gaze, too, upon that ribbed and dented brow; there also, you would see still stranger foot-prints—the foot-prints of his one unsleeping, ever-pacing thought.
But on the occasion in question, those dents looked deeper, even as his nervous step that morning left a deeper mark. And, so full of his thought was Ahab, that at every uniform turn that he made, now at the main-mast and now at the binnacle, you could almost see that thought turn in him as he turned, and pace in him as he paced; so completely possessing him, indeed, that it all but seemed the inward mould of every outer movement.
“D’ye mark him, Flask?” whispered Stubb; “the chick that’s in him pecks the shell. ’Twill soon be out.”

And, in the heat of battle and under grapeshot fire from the French, Nicholas Rostov becomes the news correspondent from Dracula...
Nicholas Rostóv turned away and, as if searching for something, gazed into the distance, at the waters of the Danube, at the sky, and at the sun. How beautiful the sky looked; how blue, how calm, and how deep! How bright and glorious was the setting sun! With what soft glitter the waters of the distant Danube shone. And fairer still were the faraway blue mountains beyond the river, the nunnery, the mysterious gorges, and the pine forests veiled in the mist of their summits... There was peace and happiness... “I should wish for nothing else, nothing, if only I were there,” thought Rostóv.

“It took a single night of sleep for Seward to immediately doubt Van Helsing’s work, even if he saw everything with his own eyes.”
Jack Seward starting to doubt? He needs to grow him some bushy eyebrows!
This is exactly why Van Helsing didn't tell Seward about his vampire conclusion before having all the evidence he could find to prove it. It took a single night of sleep for Seward to immediately doubt Van Helsing's work, even if he saw everything with his own eyes.
Seward's obsession with rationality makes him sound irrational now that he has seen everything that proves that poor Lucy is, indeed, an undead creature of the night.
"Is it possible that the Professor can have done it himself?" Seward, my good bitch, it's vampires. Lucy's body is fresh and full with blood, Van Helsing even showed you that she didn't show any signs of being actually dead.

Nicholas Rostov’s “get lost” request to Berg put me in mind of Van Helsing’s “get lost” request to Jack Seward.
Exhibit A
“I say, Berg, my dear fellow,” said Rostóv, “when you get a letter from home and meet one of your own people whom you want to talk everything over with, and I happen to be there, I’ll go at once, to be out of your way! Do go somewhere, anywhere... to the devil!” he exclaimed, and immediately seizing him by the shoulder and looking amiably into his face, evidently wishing to soften the rudeness of his words, he added, “Don’t be hurt, my dear fellow; you know I speak from my heart as to an old acquaintance.”
“Oh, don’t mention it, Count! I quite understand,” said Berg, getting up and speaking in a muffled and guttural voice…. and, having assured himself from the way Rostóv looked at it that his coat had been noticed, left the room with a pleasant smile. (War and Peace, Bk1Pt3Ch7)
Exhibit B
But the young ladies! He has no wife nor daughter, and the young do not tell themselves to the young, but to the old, like me, who have known so many sorrows and the causes of them. So, my dear, we will send him away to smoke the cigarette in the garden, whiles you and I have little talk all to ourselves.' I took the hint, and strolled about, and presently the professor came to the window and called me in. (Dracula Daily, September 3)

My Top Posts in 2022:
#5
September 26 … a day when everyone is starting to feel much better!
Jonathan (to Van Helsing): "I was ill, I have had a shock; but you have cured me already."
Seward (about Renfield): “Renfield had become, to all intents, as sane as he ever was.”
Seward (about Arthur): “he is bearing up wonderfully well” and “beginning to recover something of his old buoyancy”.
Seward (about Quincey): “he himself is a bubbling well of good spirits”.
Seward (about Seward): As for myself, I’m settling down to my work with the same enthusiasm I used to have, and pretty much think I’m getting over my broken heart for Lucy.
How nice that everyone is happy again!
For a minute, at least. 😬

My #1 post of 2022
Mina has been travelling with Van Helsing for two days now and we’ve heard no rambling lectures about corn, frogs, buzzing thoughts, ducks, swans or brain capacity.
Either he doesn’t think Mina needs to be lectured, or Mina doesn’t think his lectures need to be included in her journal.
