Idk I'm no expert on character design but I think "good" and "bad" character designs are more relative than people act like they are. Same with artstyle.

I know most of the time people are mocking artists known to be garbage people but everytime it goes to "The designs/art is soooo bad lol" it rubs me the wrong way lmao

#ink thinks #i once saw a post that compared it to body shaming in of that. if u mock a garbage person's artstyle #you're far more likely to end up hurting a friend or smaller artist with similar art traits #and idk that's always stuck with me #and OFC there's nuance. obviously. some art 'styles' have glaring issues with them. same with character design.#but that's more in the vein of say Sexism or Racism and not 'ehhh the colors don't jive as well as i would like' yknow?#like no i get it there's ways to make more compelling character designs i get it! i knoe there's methods #but what appeals to you or generally appeals to most people isn't for everyone yknow??#that's not to say u can't do character redesigns. i luv character redesigns i think they're fun.#but i wish the focus was more on 'here's my take/how i would have done it' and as a practice for something fun to do #as opposed to 'and here's the RIGHT way to do it'#not aimed at anyone in particular its just something ive been thinking abt lately
