Happy Secret Santa to lunanimal.tumblr.com !
It’s a 2020 OJS Christmas - on Skype - in response to the lovely prompt: ‘Just in general MJN/OJS being a family and supporting each other’. Douglas was worried he might not be able to see his daughter in the lockdown, but it all worked out.

Ollie! What a lovely tv show for kids that’s being created at Lunanime. I’m helping them out with pipeline development, so we don’t get lost in the forest!

As an American about the news, I don't have a TV or cable or anything so I wouldn't completely know, but yeah. For "just the facts" reporting I deliberately seek out international sources like the BBC (not saying they're perfect, just more straightforward than American news). Even the really revered sources like the New York Times publish a lot of nonsense
That's funny because I generally wouldn't go to any newspaper for a quick update on the facts. Every big newspaper carters to a certain political viewpoint. Smaller, local newspapers are a little better about this, but also mainly local news & I wouldn't expect investigative journalism from them (anyway, I haven't read an actual paper in years so idk)
I don't have a TV either, but Tagesschau (the specific format I meant) is available online with no paywall or advertising, since it's public. It has a great online presence as well and because it does very few opinion pieces, it reaches a broad audience. Like, you don't have to wade through loads of content to find the actual facts or to separate fact from opinion. Reports on individual issues are often only 1-3 minutes long; they give you the facts, if something is controversial, they give you takes from people who represent at least 2 sides of the argument. Because the broadcaster doesn't rely on ads, their headlines tend not to be very clickbait-y. They also do a lot of fact checks and are imho the best address for liveblogging of dynamic situations; they can afford to have someone permanently on the ground worldwide, as they don't have to answer to shareholders.
Is it perfect? No, of course not. They still have a viewpoint. It is impossible to be completely unbiased. in their desire to be unbiased, they often give more screentime to right-wing politicians than I'm comfortable with. But still, they are the standard against which all others are measured and rightfully so imo

enchanted forest au?
oh yeah.... this au that i began at christmas and promised myself i’d update regularly and then... didn’t...
did i really last update this in december??? god i’m so sorry to anyone who actually wanted to follow this - i promise i will pick it up again some time soon. i’m about halfway through the next chapter, and i even have a proper plan for the whole thing so i guess i distracted myself with the horrible hercolyn advent and now i’m in way too deep for gallifrey.... ahah...
to say sorry, here’s an extract from the next chapter which i will post eventually:
“A toast! To our dear friends, who are all here tonight – a toast to your health!” King Knapp roared, wine sloshing over the side of his goblet. Carolyn sighed. Her father had always been a lightweight.
Across the table, Theresa caught her eye and smiled. They had long been forbidden from sitting within arm’s reach of each other after one too many practical jokes. At least they’d gone out on a bang.
Since then, her father had always seated her at the top of the table, next to a potential suitor from a neighbouring kingdom. He denied this when she’d challenged him, once, but she wasn’t stupid. The older she got, the more of a problem it was. She knew that if she were good and obedient, she’d accept her role and duty as crown princess, listen to her father and marry the most politically useful man he put before her.
And it had nearly happened – she had liked Ian enough to accept the proposal, but going to war against their kingdom had put an end to all those plans. That, and catching him in bed with her sister.

Word count: 10,540 Chapters: 3/3 Fandom: Sherlock (TV) Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Sherlock Holmes/John Watson Characters: Sherlock Holmes, John Watson Additional Tags: mind reading au, Case Fic, Pre-Reichenbach, Pining, Friends to Lovers, Insecure!Sherlock, Frustrated!John, Wisteria Lodge but like way less racist Summary:
“It seems we’ve become the next of Baskerville’s unwilling test subjects,” Sherlock announced. “We?” John asked. “You’re not reading minds too, now, are you?” Just back from Baskerville, John discovers a strange new ability: he can hear Sherlock's thoughts. What he overhears will challenge the way he understands Sherlock- and their relationship.
======
Rec: This is a snazzy, hi-tech update of Wisteria Lodge with the welcome addition of a romantic plot tied up with some unexpected aftereffects from Baskerville. The two threads are nicely balanced and intertwined as each proves to be both a distraction and an enhancement to the other. But the big draw, of course, is the mind-reading bit, which is fun to watch John try to figure out what’s going on. And even more fun once both of them are aware what’s happening.

41, 47, for the writer asks?
41. Are there any books you feel have shaped you as a writer?: Well, obviously the Sherlock Holmes canon. But you know, that’s a given. I’d also say that a LOT of my sense of humour and view of the supernatural and magical comes from Tanya Huff books.
47. Single or dual/multi POV?: It really depends on the story. A shorter more emotionally driven piece for me calls for single, while a longer plot pushed one usually calls for dual. This is especially fun when getting into characters heads to see how they are both responding to the same situation, like
Character A: Oh my god, I’m so awkward and clumsy and I must look like an idiot.
Character B: Oh my god, he is so suave and smooth and charming.
I have a lot of fun writing First Person, too.

Favorite colour; Last song; Currently reading; Last movie; Currently working on; Sweet savoury or spicy
Tag some people, let's keep the fun going ;)
┬┴┬┴┤(・_├┬┴┬┴
Favorite colour: ocean blue (all the shades).
Last Song: last one discovered that I like... (And I listen on loop) "música ligera" by Ana Mena (not gonna explain xD it's mood ok?). Last one listened on Spotify it's ... Let me check.... Ambrosia wine by Madds Buckley.
Currently reading: ... I feel so called out ... Ok, I'm reading La Belle Sauvage by Phillip Pullman. I've been reading this book for a year it's ridiculous, and it's good and I like it (it's signed btw :3).
Last movie: mmmh when was the last time I saw a movie? Ah! Sleepless in Seattle (Algo para recordar in Spanish) it's one of my comfort films and I'd never seen it in English sooo... I watched it with my dad las week.
Currently working on: currently working on working on something... I'm a disaster... At work we are doing some booklets to study for SAT and PAU. Personally working on drawing horses.
Sweet, savory or spicy: I can't choose... My favourite is sour... But I like those three equally, depending on the time of the day... Sweet in the morning and afternoon, savory at midday and night, spicy always (we put sriracha on everything at home xD) as a companion to the other two flavours.
Well that was fun! Feels nostalgic (੭ु。╹▿╹。)੭ु⁾⁾

Catch up game
tagged by @theloversthedreamersandme82 - Cheers!
Last song - Roots and Wings by The Wallflowers. Can't believe they and Counting Crows have new albums out this year. It's like the early 2000s all over again, except I'm not reliant on my brother's haphazard downloading of stuff he heard on the radio for finding out what I like.
Last movie - I'm like theloversanddreamersandme82 and I can't really remember the last movie I watched. At the cinema, it was Little Women. Aussies are spoiled with SBS but I don’t make the most of it. Who has the concentration span for a whole movie?
Currently reading - Children of Men by PD James. I've wanted to read this since I heard about (and then watched) the movie, because it's such a compelling idea. Compelling but unbearable: what if the world was afflicted with sudden, universal infertility? What if there was no one coming after us? I've never had that tugging desperation to reproduce, but as a children's writer and a teacher, a world without kids would destroy me. Before this I tried to read The Portrait of A Lady. I really did try. But life is too short for very long, very boring books.
Currently watching - I've just finished Sanditon and Good Omens and enjoyed them both - though I'm glad it's Sanditon getting the second season. Good Omens was enough. I like sci-fi/fantasy stuff but gods-and-devils stuff makes me a bit uncomfortable. Despite my agnosticism, I think I may be a Methodist deep down. No drinking, no dancing, no devils - not even morally-ambiguous fictional ones. Right now, I’m enjoying Horrible Histories and lots of YouTube. I like OneTopicAtATime because he's such a good-natured goofball. And Adam Savage answering questions about Mythbusters and other things, proving himself a surprisingly wise man and also a goofball.
Currently craving - The job I'm shortlisted for. And then I want to go out with my friend to celebrate over Ramen or all-you-can-eat sushi. Except I likely won't get it, and she's in the wrong city :( Not being pessimistic, just trying to manage expectations.
Whom shall I tag? @lunanimal @knapp-shappeys @the-mousy-spell-checker @robinfai @ainawgsd @pyjamayoghurt  No obligations, my friends!
