Magical girl forms for the second Au Lukia set I did last year. I think I'm getting further and further away from both Lukia's canon design and magical girl designs in general...

Doumoto Kaine (海音) - Sporty and fun-loving, but has trouble keeping focus.

Nanami Aine (愛夏音) - A dreamy and passive girl who ended up as a part of a magical girl pirate group.

Doumoto Ami (あみ) - A sunny and curious girl. Currently on the run from home to live in the undersea world.

Nanami Utano (歌乃) - Single-mindedly devoted to magical girl work, which makes it hard for her to work in a team. Attacks first and asks questions later.

Doumoto Aqua (あくあ) - Energetic and cheerful, but is at a risk of being exploited by the bad guys due to her naivety.

Nanami Marin (まりん) - A quiet and serious girl. On her way to becoming a sea witch.

AQUA RANT. Spoilers from chapter 2.

The fin sucking scene is disturbing as fuck. Also what the fuck happened to the way the mermaid tails are drawn? Now it looks like Rukia has a very defined ass... WHEN SHE IS IN MERMAID FORM. She's even got knees! It looks awful IMO.

Plot-wise, I'm getting worried. This is chapter 2 and we have no idol transformation, no new enemies, no new mermaid princesses, nothing. The only thing we have is the love plot, which I admit IS interesting, but the original PPP had both love and mermaid plots.

Rukia is definitely not my cup of tea. Lucia in the original had a very clear personality (bubbly, easily distracted, clumsy, subject to teasing from both Kaito and Hanon, kind of agressive with words, etc) even in the first two chapters. Rukia, I feel, doesn't really have that by now. She's far more basic and I cannot really describe her personality as more than a lovestruck teenager. She's like Lucia but with less personality, at least in my opinion.

I am not saying there aren't good things —I think the forced marriage is interesting and puts Rukia in a very good conflict. And I'm so excited thinking of the possibilities of Kurosuna having discovered Rukia's identity. Will we finally know how the bubble curse works? I'm hoping we get the revelation that the curse is fake or that Lucia got rid of it as Aqua Regina.

However, one thing that scares me... if Lucia isn't against the forced marriage then we're going to have a very, very OoC Lucia. I really hope there's more to it and not just "we're your parents and we decided this because why not".

Is it ok if I hop on this? Because I’ve been thinking a lot about this lately! Like this is fascinating?!

Ok, so we know ​Luchia was a child herself when she became the ultimate sea goddess. Now Aqua implies that she still aged like a normal person. However, we need to look at how this effected her mentally. Because I’m sure that having all that responsibility placed upon her at that young age surely impacted her parenting of her only child.

Knowing what happened to her at that age, I’m sure she’s just trying to do her best based upon her own life experiences. Mermaid Princesses inherently have a lot of pressure placed upon them from a young age. They are literally born to rule their kingdoms and not allowed to have much freedoms outside of that.

Extrapolating based upon Aqua, we can see that Lukia is the only one of her kind. As far as we are aware, none of the other princesses even have children (let along significant others! RIP Subaru) Therefore, Luchia has no real frame of reference for how she should be raising Lukia as the first half Mermaid and/or potentially half Panthalassa.

Her trauma from her sickness / ascension plays into how she raises Lukia. Though we don’t know how the arranged marriage plays into this, I believe it’s got something to do with her Pearl (since Nam is the Prince of the North Pacific).

I just know that Luchia probably doesn’t want her daughter to have to go through the same things she did. Perhaps that is why they chose to raise Lukia on land? So that she would not feel the pressures of the title of being royalty in the North Pacific. And maybe she sealed her memories of being a half mermaid so that she wouldn’t know the struggles that she (and maybe Kaito to a degree) degree faced by not being fully human.

Idk I might just be reading too much into it but I just feel like there is a lot of nuisance to Luchia and Lukia’s relationship !

Anyone having a problem with Luchia's hypocrisy in Aqua appears to be forgetting that she became Aqua Regina when she was only 16 so there might be some ✨intergenerational trauma✨ going on
