Mermaid Melody Worldbuilding (2/?)

The Domouto Siblings

This post is all about Kaito and Luchia’s three children, Maria, Luka, and Kaia.

Maria Domoto

Their eldest, Maria, takes after their father and does not possess a tail. She inherits her father’s love of surfing and works to earn his title as well. She can breath underwater, emit energy projection from her forehead like her father, and manipulate water in all three states.

Luka Domoto

Their son, Luka, is a grey merman who possesses a greater control over the magic of the Panthalassa clan. He is able to control sea creatures and control the weather.

Kaia Domoto

Their daughter is born with Sensorineural hearing loss, as a result of the illness Luchia suffered from her becoming the next Aqua Regina. From an early age, Kaito and Luchia decide not to get Kaia her any sort of implants. They want her to learn to communicate in a manner that’s best for her. Kaia, when she is old enough, decides she doesn’t want to speak. Instead, she communicates solely through various forms of language sign language and lip reading.

As a result of how her pearl’s song presents itself, Kaia has trained to play the harp from an early age. She is quite skilled at it, having inherited her family’s love of music.

Mermaid Melody Secret Santa 2024 Sign-Ups Open!

Hi! It's that time of year again, time for another Mermaid Melody secret santa!

In case you don't know me, I'm Ubiquitor, admin of the Mermaid Melody Haven Discord Server, and I'll be running this as a cross platform event between here and there. I don't use Tumblr a massive amount personally, so I might be a bit inexperienced on this side, but we'll get there in the end!

Back at it again with another Mermaid Melody theory!

Mermaids cannot be impregnated, as the drastic change in anatomy between land and sea would cause severe physical deformities in the child, if not death. Instead, mermaids evolved to reproduce pseudo-asexually: a merfolk couple’s love for each other and desire to have a child together manifests into a special pearl that can then be “born” into a new mermaid or merman.

This theoretically makes it possible for same-sex couples to have a child, though this has yet to be seen
