Couple headcanons for Isabela and Bubo?

They met not long after the events of Encanto and they were friends for nearly a year before they started dating. 

Bubo is a couple of months younger than Isabela—he was born in September and she was born in August. 

All of their kids were unplanned. They have four—a set of triplets and a little girl.

They love their kids but don't want any more. 

Isabela despises Bubo’s family and never hesitates to chase them off when they dare to darken Casita’s doors with their presence. 

Bubo is weird, even for the Encanto, but Isabela doesn’t mind. Mostly because she likes how he doesn’t mind her new ‘oddities’ like several people in the Encanto do. 

Isabela also likes how he makes an effort to get along/bond with her family: he let Mirabel teach him how to sew, helped and encouraged Luisa to try out hobbies that others might find weird if she really wanted to, and so on. And that was before they even started dating. 

Isabela was the one to propose: the elders in the Encanto didn’t like it but she didn’t care because she wanted to do it. She had a lot of fun planning it and recruited Mirabel, Camilo, Antonio, Luisa, Dolores, Faustina, Mina, and all of her in-laws (those who married her cousins and siblings, not Bubo’s family because honestly she’d rather drop dead than acknowledge such awful people) to help her in the planning. 

The day involved Isabela experimenting with her powers as Bubo took notes, a pollen pod fight, one of her paintings, a fencing season, and lunch. So all in all, it was a very fun day even before she had her little potato people hold up the cue cards popping the question. 

Bubo loved it. The grandkids were all ecstatic that everything went to plan. Raimi, Beatriz, and Félix laughed. Pepa cheered. Miranda, Julieta, and Agustín thought it was sweet as did Agustín’s mother, Valentia. Alma and Wilmer were bewildered but happy for them and the engagement went on. 

They took their relationship slow and only got married after seven years together.

The two of them love fencing and gardening together as well as doing their own little art projects around one another. 

Less than a year later, the triplets were born and ten years after that their daughter, Avila, was born. 

I picture them as Morticia and Gomez Addams in a way in how they love one another. 

Bubo supports Isabela in everything she does whether it’s regarding her experimenting with her gift, her greenhouse, or her hobbies. He’s even the one who got her into art and fencing. 

Isabela, in turn, makes him more confident and helps him with the colors for his costumes. Giving him feedback on how to make them goofier or scarier, depending on what he wants them to be. 

They own a shop together—it’s called Isabela and Bubo’s Oddities Shop and they sell her art, his costumes and props and special effects, and the plants she experiments with. 

They also teach fencing classes together. 

Bubo adores Isabela’s plants and experiments and potato people almost as much as Isabela herself does. He even made them their little costumes using the skills that Mirabel taught him to do so. 

Out of Isabela’s family, Bubo gets on best with her father, Mirabel, and Bruno because well…they’re the family weirdos.

There was no shovel talk given when they started dating. Partly because everyone figured out Bubo’s life sucked and that he’d rather chew off his own arm than hurt Isabela, and partly (*cough* mainly) because Isabela threatened to make their lives difficult if they did. 

As you said in your own headcanons, Isa is very “: I've only had Bubo for a day and a half, but if anything happened to him, I'll kill everyone in this Encanto and then myself” like in personality. If that makes sense. 

Bubo and Isabela like gossiping together, as you said in your own headcanons. And boy do they gossip. 

Bubo is allergic to potatoes, funnily enough, much to Isabela’s horror. Thankfully he only really gets sick when he eats them, which he doesn’t do much anyways after meeting the potato people.

He didn’t even realize he was allergic to them until he got to the Encanto… he only realized this after a family dinner gone wrong.

(His family are very luck that Mariano and Isabela have not come across them together because they both want to kill them for everything they put Bubo through).

People don’t really get their relationship but the people in the Encanto have mostly kept their opinions to themselves because the few who didn’t were very quickly shut down by not only Isabela but Mariano and the rest of the family. 

Bubo thought Isabela naming their son after Miguel was a brilliant idea and still doesn’t understand why people act like it’s weird. Their brother-in-law saved Isabela and the triplets, so it’s only right he got one named after him.

Bubo is the one who suggested they give him the middle name of Melchor because it means ‘King of Light’ and he thought it was charming.

He also suggested Arlo because he liked the name and several of the definitions he found tied to it—Isabela fell in love with the name immediately and refused to even think of another name for him. 

Isabela chose the name ‘Emo’ as a middle name for Arlo because she liked the meaning and wanted her son to know that there was no shame in being emotional.

Bubo choose the name Zoey because it means ‘life’ and he thought it was fitting, and Isabela decided that she should be named after her great aunt, Alejandra, because though she never got the chance to meet the woman she adores her based on what Abuela told her and thinks they would have gotten along. 

Another reason they went with Alejandra as a middle name was because they both agreed that Alejandra was the type of woman they want their daughter to be like—and well, they thought Alejandra had been forgotten enough and it would be a great way to honor her memory beyond the statue in the yard. 

Bubo is always creative with his gifts since if Isabela wanted flowers she’d just grow them and the oldest Madrigal grandchild adores this about him because it’s like every gift is an adventure.

A lot to say about Bubo under ‘read more’…

I believe real reasons for it is that his storyline would’ve been excessive for already crumped timing of the movie. Sure, in concept art his and Isabela’s couple looks like comedic stereotype, but then, underlying theme of the story is how deceptive surface picture in human relationships (and humans in general) can be. Aren’t Pepa and Félix embodying a cartoon duo cliché (a stocky man and tall, often spindly woman: Boris and Natasha, Popeye and Olive Oyl, Gomez and Morticia, you name it) as well, yet they have enough personality and chemistry to feel like full-fledged people in genuine relationship. And it’s not like Disney had problem with pairing statuesque confident woman with dorky/nerdy man just not so long ago: Captain Amelia and Dr. Doppler, Kida and Milo, Sgt. Calhoun and Felix Jr. … I’ve had written here my thoughts on this plot point as it appears in revealed animatic of scene: there is no much further context to it, but from what the scene discloses, it may create unfortunate impression of Isa’s character, as she seemingly tries to ditch her family and elope with somebody who can promise her future and allows her to indulge in her interests rather than maintain a respectable image she doesn’t want. Compared to her eventual storyline she appears more egoistical, and her feelings for Bubo seem self-centered too, as she only talks about loving what he loves in her. So, based just on that scene only, it could give Isa rather unsympathetic air and hurt her character arc (as it doesn’t reflect faithfully on cultural values it’s intended to portray). But her arc, I suppose, was intended to evoke sympathy after all, as, amidst all the comedy bits, the scene implies genuine and deep affinity between two (and, as another storyboard for epilogue shows, Isa’s happy ending did involve getting married to him). I guess it was decided that focus on sibling and intergenerational bonds was more pivotal for the message, thus any romance got sidelined as it was (even though different romance plot was squeezed in, it’s got even less room for development). /And, after all, love story is in the heart of the plot, it just deals with its consequences rather than blooming stage of it./

Back on the subject of stereotypes: well, yes, scrawny nerd type and model beauty together is an odd pair that may rise brows and ill suspicions in real life (presumably) and taken as joke in fiction, not particularly fresh too. But the catch in this particular case is, in all production materials and in the movie itself, it’s implied to various degree, Isa is a nerd too, by her nature. in concept art, she’s shown with books in hands (only her of all characters), and her song shows she’s knowledgeable of botany far beyond her typical repertoire, and it’s strongly implied the magical gifts stem from one’s deep inclinations. /It also stealthily upturns the presumed dynamics of three sisters: gorgeous one is really a Brain, while Luisa, a sensitive one, is Beauty, and finally, strongheaded and determined Mira (presupposed “Brain” of trio) is a figurative Brawn./ The scene from the animatic, in its turn, implies Bubo may be just as much into zoology (fearless in the woods and, that, I guess, why he has these animal urinе samples). So, romance or not, they apparently have something to see eye-to-eye and grow mutual affection over it. And the scene is quite essential in showing a gist of his personality: smart, brave, bit of eccentric, - enough to see him as likeable charismatic figure without needs to question what may be so charming about him. /Quite obviously, after he was cut, a lot of him went into final character of Bruno; he is basically just younger (well, not *smaller*) bespectacled Bruno sans all the gloom and drama./ Inner kinship under contrasting façades makes effectual portrait of a functional couple, I think.

Also, his name, which is likely a nickname, referring to his oversized glasses (Bubo is Latin and Spanish for “horned owl”.) Emphasis on eyeglasses again, like in case of Mirabel, a metaphor of “seeing beyond the obvious” through the movie. And owl is a symbol of wisdom, of course.

TL;DR: In this house we respect Bubo Marquez. I’ve finally come to giving tribute to him, at last. (This is not the last you’ve got to see of him, I gotta warn you.)

All the butterflies are based on actual species that can be found in Columbia, even though I didn’t check on correct sizes and a habitat of each, sorry for that. Hey, it’s all magic after all.

The last, related to this piece of fanart of mine: Bubo is said to be an outsider from the big city who had arrived one day in Encanto, in my version he is, perhaps, born inside the village (like Agustín, who has ancestry from big city) and was a friend of Isa in their adolescence, but eventually left Encanto to see the world. Maybe he even suggested Isa to consider joining him, but she was adamant to stay… They said goodbye, their feelings for each other left unexpressed.

Vin Diesel Gives "First Crush" Rita Moreno a Moving Tribute

Rita Moreno's incredible, decades-long career is being celebrated. Moreno, 92, appeared at the Edison Ballroom in New York City at the WNET Group's 2024 gala on Tuesday, May 7, where Vin Diesel celebrated his onscreen grandmother's and official "first crush's" legendary acting career. Taking the stage with a heartfelt speech, Diesel, 56, made it clear he was there to support Moreno, who portrayed Abuelita, the grandmother of Diesel's long-running Dominic Toretto character in Fast X. “My dream as a kid growing up here in New York … my first crush … was Rita," he began. He credited Moreno's role in The Electric Company for helping him and fellow New Yorkers in his neighborhood learn how to read. The classic television series ran from 1971 to 1977. He then recalled a full circle moment when he was looking for an actress to play Abuelita in the latest Fast & Furious franchise film. "I had the incredible luxury of meeting one of my idols and from that moment on I thought the only human in the world that could play the most significant role to Dom Toretto would be Rita Moreno." 8SP_David Nicholas He praised Moreno for helping him realize as a child that someone who "looks like me" can make it as a famous actor, giving him the "confidence" to pursue his own dreams. Sharing an unforgettable moment Diesel continued, "Rita and I were working and a line was created on the spot for her to say. It was whispered into her ear and she looked up and started crying and said. 'That’s the most beautiful line I’ve ever heard.' Now what? What do you do with that but cry? The whole set was crying." "You not only show up for family but you show up for people that make a difference in this world and that just by inviting me here validates my existence. I’m serious," Diesel said. "I don't have an Oscar, I don't have an Emmy, I don't have a Golden Globe, I don't have a Tony but I got Rita Moreno.” Moreno became emotional after hearing Diesel's kind words, and told the audience in what appeared to be an unexpected moment on the microphone, "I’ve never had any kind of celebration in my honor. Yes, I’ve gotten some pretty fabulous awards and statutes but I’ve never had anything in my honor." Moreno reached EGOT status in 1977 after she won an Emmy Award for appearing on The Muppet Show; she won a Grammy in 1973 and a Tony Award in 1975 for her performance in The Ritz. She caught up with PEOPLE in April, when she spoke about her relationship with her daughter Fernanda Luisa Gordon, whom she shares with her late husband, Leonard Gordon. Yeah I see that happen with a lot of the K pop groups too like BTS I’m not a fan of theirs but I used to follow this blog that went from being a BTS stan blog overnight and they’d assume the strangest things about the members like what they were actually like and who they were dating.

I see alot of this happen to the most main celebrities like taylor swfit, anitta (in my country), luisa sonza (in my country), rbd, there is more, Selena Gomez....My jesus. I wonder how celebrities doesnt go insane? I mean, they go actually. But I guess you have to be in certain way to make this mass of robots. there is no possible way to be your 100% self specially if you are more smart, and likes b-side things, you will not please everyone. You just not.
