"Huh? You want out? You want me to help you? Who said I'd do that? Nyeeeeck!"
Getting out of a general art funk by drawing more Mario. Tolstar is one of the most memorable Mario and Luigi bosses for me because I just love what a horrible little nerd he is. Dude's just hanging out in a wasteland near a country's border calling himself King and extorting people for money. Only winged Spike in franchise existence and this is how he lives his life.

Three little princesses working in the medical field !!
I'm proud to admit that this new art style is going to be my official art style. I also had this idea in my head for months now, and it feels so good to finally draw and post.
BONUS : Mario and Nurse Peach
Tumblr media
One of my favorite couples ever !
I love how Peach is worried about her little hero getting hurt on his way to visit her after her shift as a nurse, this was also an idea I had in mind and was originally going to be Luigi and Daisy, but I figured Daisy would be the perfect surgeon since she does not fear anything.
And since I've started dedicating my artwork, I'm going to dedicate these both to @silenzahra and @ask-the-doors-entities . You both deserve something special after all those hard times you both went through. Feel better you guys !! I also want to dedicate this artpost to @starrosalina and @vulpixfairy1985 . Thank you so much for supporting my many (and I mean many) of my Luaisy artwork. I really appreciate it !!
Art is mine !! Don't copy/repost
Please ask before using

Luigi's Thunder Shield
Tumblr media
Here's How I Headcanon Luigi Having The Ability To Create A Thunder-Like Force Field With His Thunder Hand When It Gets Too Much. Of Course During Battles He Uses It Too To Eliminate Lots Of Enemies, Just Also At Times When He Can't Take It. Usually This Sucks Out Almost All Of His Energy Though.

Seeing people's Mario OCs is making me think about mine... Princess Myrtle, Princess of Flower Fields. She's bub-ulb themed! Like all princesses, she was created by the star spirits after hearing the wish of all the residents of the Flower Fields; in their case, they wished that if they were ever in trouble again, they had someone they could rely on rather than having to wait to be rescued. She was raised by the Wise Wisterwood as well. (Art by Birthday on TH)
She's shipped with Prince Haru of the Flower Kingdom from the 1986 Mario movie...... He spends the majority of the movie as a dog creature due to a curse tho!

I feel a little bad that I only use the Mario cast in Sparks of Hope if I like have to. But the Rabbids are all so fun and silly with strong personalities like im just supposed to not run around with just them?

I know Super Princess Peach gets a lot of flak for it being a "girl power" platformer about a woman being really emotional but I gotta say as a kid I really really enjoyed it and it made me love Peach even more. It sucks that we didn't get more peach-focused games

painted my two favorite video game screenshots EVER
[Image ID: An image of digitally painted recreations of two screenshots from video games in the Super Mario series. On the left is the first screenshot. It is from Super Mario Galaxy, and features Captain Toad talking to Mario in a flower field. Mario is right in front of him and looking at him. Captain Toad wears a bright headlamp, which, due to an oversight on the developer's part, is shining directly into Mario's face. On the right is another screenshot from a Luigi's Mansion game, in which Luigi is in front of a Toad, and is similarly shining his flashlight directly into the latter's face. /.End ID]

So for the bodyguard au wanted to make alternate designs for power ups based on incorporating them with shy guy masks and shy guy variants. Listen I will take any opportunity to make outfits for characters it is just so much fun!
Adding sketches on both how the mask works along with an example of a transformation sequence below the “keep reading” to avoid this post getting super long. Quick edit before I forget I do plan on an alternate cat (super bell) power up that leans more into the cat aesthetic. I just wanted to design a more stealth/field outfit for him. I also have drafts for a knight design for the metal power up! Those are coming later though.
So I wanted to work on the setup that power ups aren’t readily accessible in the Darklands (with the exception of fire flowers and maybe boo shrooms). To counter this I’m going with the concept of fusing power ups with masks so they can be used multiple times (think Majora’s mask).
Currently working with the idea of while this does make the power up a bit weaker, as long as the mask isn’t broken or removed from the user the power up will stay in effect.
Tumblr media
Also on how shy guy masks work with different faces this just goes with my headcanon that there are different things under each shy guy’s mask. Varying from some shy guys just having a void that stares back to horrifying appendages and the masks just cover these so they can all blend in together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The transformation sequence wouldn’t happen every time a mask would be used, but I will never pass an opportunity to draw Luigi break dancing. (Btw the reference for this sequence was Deboshir’s dance when he was going off against Zip Rock, break dancing competitions are super cool and I highly recommend watching them). Anyhow this is super rough, but I hope it gets the general idea across.

On the topic of Power-Ups, let's talk Fire Flower (personal headcanons under cut)!
Tumblr media
The Fire Flower is one of, if not, the most known Power-Up from what I've seen. Even though I'm quite a fan of it myself I'll admit I never thought too much about it. So after giving it a good thought here's what I got:
General headcanons;
Fire Flowers are very adaptable plants, however they naturally originate from the Darklands, which so happen to be where they grow the most. The heat eminating from the magma is perfect for them to thrive during the initial stages. Since wielding fire isn't too rare of an ability for Koopas (more specifically some of the subspecies of Koopas) they're mostly perceived as weeds, so it's not much of an issue if someone plucks them. Unless you're an outsider. Something might be considered useless but it's a problem if the enemy wants to exploit it. Because of this a bunch of the main fields will have patrols just in case a mustachioed human, or two, happen to be sent to collect a supply. They usually consist of Fire Bros who protect and even tend to the flowers. Rumours say that with some luck it's possible for a normal Koopa to inherit fire abilities after being exposed to a Fire Flower for extended periods of time but it hasn't been scientifically confirmed.
The Fire Flower is a multiple use Power-Up. Once activated it lends it's energy to a single user, then proceeds to hibernate and slowly regain heat overtime. The process can be sped up exponentially by placing the flower near a heat source like lava or a fireplace.
Mario and Luigi specific headcanons;
It took some time for the brothers to initially get hang of releasing energy without overdoing it. It's easier to ignite something, rather than put it out. Eventually with some guidance from friendly koopas they managed to become respectable fire users. That is until the events of Superstar Saga happened.
For Mario, getting the Firebrand only enhanced his abilities. Focusing energy became very easy, a second nature even. Shaping fire, directing it, managing it's temperature. Easy peasy for a guy like him! It wasn't a suprise that the Fire Flower quickly became his favourite to use soon after. When used with the technique he can truly show off his mastery over the element!
Luigi however... got it rough. The Thunderhand, notable for giving it's user affinity for manipulating electricy, drastically reverted his progress. These two elements just unfortunately don't mix. The fire he started to produce was unpredictable and unstable. There was no guarantee if it'll fly in the right direction nor how much power it'll pack. He's been practicing ever since to not accidentally go overboard.
Tumblr media
Mario's fire tips and tricks aren't helping too much but at least he's trying.
Some of the stuff I said here could change with me adding details in the future but right now this is the general idea. It might not be completely original but the thought of making this seemed fun. Thank you to whoever read this, I hope the blocks of text were understandable!
In conclusion the Fire Flower is one of the more reliable, common and useful Power-Ups. Getting a good amount of them can be a hassle but in the long run it's worth it, especially if they're used to make your own farm. It's uses can range from warming up the house to battling evil. Mario is the "fire master" of the group and Luigi, with the peculiar way magic reacts to him, is a walking proof of the statement: "elements don't mix".
Few bonus headcanons!

heya! i know i'm super late to this but i was scrolling through your blog and saw you mention in a matter of factly manner that the characters in mario & luigi: paper jam are not from paper mario and that it is not actually a crossover, and i was like... what? i'm not saying you were wrong because you absolutely know more about this than i do, but this is an extremely bizarre and out of left field thing to discover about a game that, as far as i remember, was mainly billed as, you know... a crossover between two different rpgs series? and like, i saw you mention the fact that apparently "Paper Mario" from paper jam is not the main character of Paper Mario (???) as if it was super evident while i'm just kind of staring dumbfounded at the screen
anyways i guess point of this ask is that i would absolutely love to read a more elaborate breakdown of like, what is going on with paper jam (both wikipedia and tv tropes just describe it as a crossover without further elaboration), and if you don't feel like writing that i'd like to know if you know of anyone who has because i am kind of fascinated right now ngl
I mean it's not even that deep really it's just like. paper jam aesthetically resembles a crossover between paper mario and mario & luigi, but it barely features anything from mario & luigi and doesn't have anything at all from paper mario (besides the aesthetic). it's like if there was a warioware / wario land crossover that's actually just a sequel to warioware snapped where there's a second wario who looks like wario's design from wario land
paper jam is the only time it's ever been suggested that a "paper mario" character exists as a separate entity from "mario", and nothing about that game actually concretely implies that this paper mario is the mario from the paper mario series, because paper jam doesn't have literally anything from paper mario in it besides the aesthetic.
on the other hand, the paper mario series itself does frequently make reference to how its mario is the same person as the mario from the rest of the franchise. it's like the jumpman situation where if you analyze them as two different characters you can't really say anything about one that you can't say about the other

Mario and Daisy Headcanons
Currently on the road to go on vacation for the next week (and then go back to uni two days later 🫠) so I decided to take some time to write up some headcanons for Mario and Daisy! They’re a lot fun to draw, and just as much to write ☺️ I was originally going to pair it with the short ‘prologue’ story I had for them, but it got too long, so I’m gonna have it separate.
@vulpixfairy1985 @kelbreyworshipper @peaches2217 @itsavee4117 @supergay-64 @megamagimugi @pinkcreamypeach @wahooitsamee @silenzahra (when you’re ready <3) @mikibaby94 and @akiiame-blog I think you guys will like these 🤭

Meeting Each Other
• In their first few months of knowing each other, Daisy absolutely THRIVED on getting a rise out of Mario. “It’s funny seeing tiny people mad,” her reasoning was. It was always a good day for her, but it was a GREAT day when a vein was popping out of his forehead.
◦ Of course because everything is a game to Miss Daisy 😗
• The two had a rocky start… well, more on Mario’s end; Daisy was just there for a good time. For the most part, he remained civil towards her because she was Peach’s best friend and Luigi seemed to really like her (somehow).
• Not that Mario could never handle the truth, but to him, Daisy was ALARMINGLY blunt, ESPECIALLY around him, and had energy like he’s never seen before.
• What made him uneasy about her was how she interacted with people. She’s a physically affectionate person, so she’d do little things like shoulder punches/shakes, arm around the shoulder, hand on shoulder, playful pokes, etc. this was especially the case for Luigi, adding on spontaneous hugs, sometimes in the air.
◦ Luigi had to assure Mario over and over that he wasn’t uncomfortable, but the deep shade of red on his face around her convinced him otherwise.
◦ What made Mario snap was when she took Luigi on a solo tour around Sarasaland, but unintentionally got him badly hurt (more on this here), and immediately wanted nothing to do with her, no exceptions.
◦ Despite her questionable ways of showing affection, Daisy grew to genuinely like the bros, so she was disheartened when she heard the news. She wrote several letters to explain herself to give to Peach so she could give to Mario, but he was having none of it.
◦ A month after Luigi fully healed, Mario thought that maybe he was too harsh, but he still kept his distance.
• [insert event where Luigi is in trouble and they come together and bond over how much they care about him and learn a little more about each other in the process but NOT THERE YET… but at least Mario can stand to be around her again]
• What DOES make them closer is their love for sports and hands-on activities. Daisy is more eager to get her hands dirty unlike Peach, and unlike Luigi who would be more reluctant and stand behind Mario most of the time (of course the company is always appreciated)
◦ What starts off as a mission to annoy Mario (affectionate) turns into hours of cracking jokes, banter, life vents learning more from each other (whether it was what they were doing in the moment, from life or both).
Nicknames
• Mario’s nicknames for Daisy are Testa di spina (thornhead), D, Firecracker, Sriracha Queen, Crazy Daisy (more frequently when they were just meeting), and Petals
• Daisy’s nicknames for Mario are Red, Shortie, Short stack, SuperBoy, Fire hydrant, teletubby, Mawio, Mar-maid Man, Mustachio, Cap’n Lou (ironic right? also if you know you know), and Stimpy
Misc Headcanons
When these two work together in sports, they are a FORCE. They’re both jack of all trades on the field and on the racetrack.
When competing against each other however, it’s war. No mercy, no going easy on each other, but it brings out the best in them. Just to show respect and a sign of leaving their rivalry on the field, they do a long handshake.
Mario: *breathes*
Daisy: YOU’RE SHORT
and she’ll never go a day without letting him know it, but finds a unique way to show it each day.
They’re THE best hug givers. Mario and Daisy are incredibly warm people (Mario with his firebrand and Daisy ruling in a bright and humid environment). Mario’s stocky, so he’ll completely cover you with his love and warmth (and there’s plenty of him to hug in return), while Daisy’s hugs are tight but meaningful.
When these two hug each other, uh, let’s just hope they don’t squeeze the life out of each other 😅 they’re so competitive that they even need to compare who hugs better (creds to @teegeeteegee)
[Luigi and Peach walking and talking, then spotting Mario and Daisy either hugging or choking each other]
Peach: …What are you guys doing?
Daisy, not moving her head: We’re hugging, duh.
Peach: Why? (Not used to seeing the two showing this much affection to each other)
Mario: To see which of us hug better.
[L&P share a glance]
Luigi: Do you guys wanna, you know… unhug?
Mario and Daisy, realizing how nice the hug feels: …nah.
They’re partners in crime! They love pulling pranks on the koopas, goombas and other baddies, and maybe a harmless prank or two on the Toads and citizens over in Sarasaland.
It would take a near-death experience for either of them to ever say an emotional “I love you” to each other. At least Daisy mostly; Mario is more willing to say it. Daisy would usually say it lightheartedly (ex. “love ya!” followed by a punch to the shoulder or “you too” when Mario expresses his love out of habit). But they do show their care/love for each other through actions.
Mario knows Daisy is far from a princess who needs saving, but he still can’t help but have the need to protect her when the time comes.
Oh, and if you insult or hurt Mario, you better hope Daisy isn’t standing within a ten-mile radius with a steel chair.
Daisy loves to mess up Mario’s hair beyond recognition, while Mario loves to come up behind her and poke her sides (i imagine her making the “ah!” noise if you know, if not then this at 0:35)
When they feel playful, they talk to each other in funny accents.
