i think the most frustrating part about tbosas is the fact that you want to root for coryo. you want him to be a better man for lucy gray. you want him and sejanus to become closer, to become the best friends sejanus believes them to be. you want him to run away and find a way to relearn all the oppressive and tyrannical ideals the capitol instilled in him.
but thatā€™s not what happens.
coriolanus isnā€™t necessarily a good person. heā€™s not a bad person either, not yet, but heā€™s no where near good. and rather than try to be good, he gives up, he lets himself ā€œgo badā€, he rats out sejanus, he lets his anger get the best of him and loses lucy gray.
the idea that coryo could be a good person but chooses not to be is exactly the reason this book and this character are brilliant.

harder than you think
i. When the Narnians stole Edmund away from beneath the Witch's blade, they told him he was safe. This wasn't a lie, but it wasn't the whole truth either.
ii. They brought him to the Stone Table. It was night. Edmund doubted very much that he would find safety there, for he still recoiled at the name of Aslan. He slept fitfully and woke the next morning before the sun was up.
iii. A sliver of gold just beyond the tent flap captured his attention, there in the dark. Unaccountably, Edmund felt the urge to rise and go towards it.
iv. And there was Aslan, who was supposed to be fearsome, supposed to be dangerous, supposed to be powerful, and he was he was he was. Dimly, Edmund felt himself hitting the ground.
v. But then Aslan said, ā€œCome, Son of Adam. Let us walk a while, and reason together.ā€
vi. And as they walked together, in the cool dewy grass of early morning, the Lion told Edmund everything that he had ever done.
vii. They were standing in front of the Table when the conversation turned. Aslan spoke a riddle of a house blasted into rubble which he would piece back together overnight. He spoke of flesh being pierced, blood being shed, and of rejected stones being used for new foundations. He spoke about water welling up forever, washing you clean of everything you ever did wrong, all the blood that you ever thought of shedding, everything you ever tried to steal, and a river that carries you home when you can't walk anymore and spits you out brand new when it reaches the sea.
viii. Edmund's head swam. Silently, he yearned for the wisdom to understand what he was being told; or, failing that, at least to remember it for as long as it took him to puzzle it out.
ix. And then, the Witch. Then, the battle. The thrones. A year passed, and winter came. In its time, it melted back to glorious spring.
x. ā€œEdmund,ā€ said Lucy one day. ā€œThere's something we need to tell you.ā€ She and Susan were cloaked in springtime gossamer, like fairy queens in poems he only half remembered. They sat on the window seat in his study, holding hands white-knuckled: his two beloved sisters.
xi. ā€œIt's about Aslan,ā€ Susan said. ā€œAnd the White Witch, and how he made her renounce her claim on your blood. The night before Beruna, he went back to the Stone Table.ā€
xii. ā€œHe let her kill him,ā€ Lucy cut in. ā€œInstead of you. And then, because he hadn't done anything wrong, the Emperor's Deeper Magic brought him back to life.ā€
xiii. ā€œWe've been arguing all year about how much to tell you,ā€ said Susan wryly. Then, a little gentler, ā€œWe don't want to hurt you, but we feel you ought to be told what he did for you.ā€
xiv. And Edmund, who had never forgotten what Aslan told him on that cool, dewy morning before the sun came up, shut his eyes and whispered, ā€œI know.ā€
xv. I know, he said. I know that he died. I know that he did it for me. I know he lived again because I saw him the next day, and the next, and the next. I think I know what it means - or at least, I know the shape of it.
xvi. ā€œOh,ā€ said Lucy. ā€œWe should have realized that he would have told you himself.ā€
xvii. ā€œYes. But please, tell me the story all the same.ā€

Thinking about how much snow probably wouldā€™ve hated district 12s first victor no matter who it was (bc letā€™s be honest he was probably holding that grudge against Lucy gray hoping no one from 12 would ever win again) and haymitch winning in the rebellious/stick it to the capitol way that he did probably just made him an even bigger target for snow
Also thinking about how haymitch (growing up a lot closer to Lucy grays time and mightā€™ve known about what went down with her games/her and snow/etc) wouldā€™ve probably been inherently a lot more suspicious of snow/the games/district 12s disadvantages and how itā€™ll be interesting to see how much of all of that heā€™s aware of and hear his pov on it
Bc even katniss comments on how district 12s tributes are inherently at a disadvantage (bc they have virtually no opportunities to learn any survival skills and donā€™t even start mining until theyā€™re past reaping age) tho the way she says it she doesnā€™t seem to think of it as deliberate sabotage to the district (bc why would she- sheā€™s obviously not aware of Lucy gray or snows history with 12) but haymitch might not see it that way, especially if he knows about anything about Lucy gray
Iā€™m just so excited to see what panem/district 12/haymitch are like at this point in time now that weā€™ve had a glimpse at everything a generation before and after this

I got asked this question and loved it so much, I wanted to open it up to the group.
If you could choose 5 Chenford scenes to rewrite, which would you choose, and how would you rewrite them?
Oooh thank you for 'tagging' me, Becca ā™” It is a great question! Let's seeā€¦
4.17 - The ending So technically, this isn't a Chenford sceneā€¦ But this is partly why I would want it to be rewritten. Let's start with the most egregious part : having Lucy apparently forgive Chris and act like he hadn't just callously triggered herā€¦ or like she hadn't just watched the video recording her own deathā€¦ That ending bothered me so much. Ideally, I wish she would have kicked him to the curb - or, at least, ask for some space after what he didā€¦ and I would have loved a final scene between her and Tim. One where she would have confided in him about watching the cam footages, where they would have talked about that day and her traumaā€¦ I love that she was able to work through it all by herself, that she found her voice so to speak and refused to play Rosalind's mind gamesā€¦ But somehow, I can't help but think that not having a single Chenford scene was a missed opportunity.
5.04 - The ending Since we're on that topicā€¦ Now, this was an even bigger missed opportunity. I still can't believe that we didn't get a scene between Lucy and Tim following Rosalind's death. And by that, I mean, a proper scene with some emotions and some feelingsā€¦ I get that during the episode, they were too busy trying to find a way to save Bailey. I also get that things were still awkward between them. But come on, I don't believe for a second that this would have stopped Tim. This is the same man who didn't even think before grabbing her hand in the middle of their undercover op when they found out about Rosalind's escapeā€¦ the same man who was panicking when Lucy was radio silentā€¦ I needed that same energy here. What we got instead was a bit too cold for me.
5.13 - Missing scene : the morning after You have no idea how much I was hoping for this sceneā€¦ Something soft and domesticā€¦ with a reference to the DOD tattoo!
5.16 - Their fight about the five-player trade That scene still puzzles me. It felt forced and clunky. We didn't really get to see Tim's perspective and why he was mad at Lucy. In the shop, it sounded like he was upset with how her move would reflect on himā€¦ But in his office, they only talked about her going behind his back. So, in the end, it felt superficial. I'm not saying he was wrong by the wayā€¦ I just wish his point of view could have been explored more. Both of their perspectives actually. Especially since Lucy paid a hefty price in the end. I guess the point was to show the cracks in their foundation, but it could have been done in a better way.
6.01/6.02 - Their fight Lucy's anxiety and potential doubts about UC were just swept entirely under the rug and the narrative simply focused on Tim's own issue with UC. But one issue doesn't negate the other. There were two problems here and only one got addressed - and barely at that. After all the crumbs from s5, all the times Tim walked away from having a real conversation on the topic, I needed more than 'I will deal with this' / 'we'll figure it out'. It's great that he was finally honest with himself but it still didn't go any further than that. And then, there's Lucy. I was hoping her anxiety would be the precursor for a bigger discussion about Lucy's future and her mental health, about her feelings about UC outside of Timā€¦ but nope. Her spiraling was already forgotten in 6.02. And it is a bit frustrating.

The best thing about BSD Lucy Montgomery is that she is trying so hard to live her fairy tale dream, like asking Atsushi to save her from the Guild and all that nonsense.
Instead, she just gets beaten by him once when they're enemies, gets out of the Guild on her own, and has to save that sorry boy's life over and over again.
Like, sorry, Lucy girl...you're not the damsel in distress in this fairy tale. You're the prince charming who had a bit of a villain arc and now is doing good out of sheer spite and stubborness. Better luck next arc?

hi luci! now that we've crossed midseason, who do you think are the top 5 drivers so far and why, or any thoughts you have, really hehe.
Top 5 for overall performance(in no particular order): Charles - has had some of the best drives of his career. He's been out driving the car when it's not there, and when the car is there he's been practically flawless. Max - I mean. He's been really reminding us it's more than the car this year Lewis - I feel like his performances are self explanatory George/Oscar (It's a tie at the moment) - both have been strong on track, even in unfavorable conditions Yuki - has been consistently out driving the car all year
My other impressions are that the WCC is really heating up. This is not a WDC fight at this point, the last few rounds I think have made that clear, unless something big changes of course.
But the WCC could go a lot of ways. I know people say Mclaren has it, but I think it's actually going to be very tight, especially if Ferrari manage to get back on the upward trajectory. That's the real race to watch at the moment.
I also think we are probably going to see the top 5 in the WDC change a few more times before the end of the year.
