Bunch of DST headcanons for Wormwood cause I think about this plant WAY too much 🍃💚

Under Cut. VERY long post I just want these all together. :)

Still maintains his memories from when he was just a stone, they're just a bit hazy.

Considers Hamlet his second birthplace after the moon. Still nostalgic for it despite how brutal it was there.

Was a minor celebrity up in Hamlet. Was basically the town bum but the pigs loved all the gardening and picking up manure he did, some even adored his bloom form.

He learned the basics of survival by examining abandoned survivor camps and receiving help from the nicer pigfolks in Hamlet

Isn't as passive as he seems, he knows how to defend himself and WILL throw hands if he needs to, he just really rather not.

Actually a lot brighter than he seems, he just doesn't speak English well. It's his second language. (He's VERY fluent in the Ancient’s language tho.)

Prefers softer/mushy types of food since it's easier on his plant like mouth.

Is taking English lessons from Wickerbottom, struggles to maintain most of her lessons tho.

Actually likes doing different kinds of puzzles, he finds them really entertaining.

Knows that mushrooms aren't plants, he just doesn't understand what fungi is and they speak to him like his plant friends do, so he lumps them in.

Surprisingly knows a decent amount of first aid. Can actually treat minor wounds and knows a lot of remedies that helps with certain ailments and illnesses. Even memorized the recipe for anti venom. (Still doesn't understand why humans don't like manure tho.)

Genuinely believed humans were called unpigs due to his time living in Hamlet, took a good while for him to unlearn that. Still never caught on that twirly tails were just called pigs.

Has developed a small quirk where he will refer to humans/other non plant like creatures he doesn't view as friends as “fleshlings.” (Much to the dismay of to the rest of the camp and the delight of a certain robot.)

Is understanding of the survivors’ need to harm plants like chopping trees, as he had to do the same to survive while on his own. As long as it's for survival and they don't do it around him, then he accepts it.

Despite the issues, he gets along with Woodie quite well. He gets the others’ needs for wood and is understanding enough of the curse to TOLERATE the lumberjack's occupation. They actually work together to plant more trees. (Thinks Lucy's a bad influence tho.)

Misses the moon a lot, and clings to anything that reminds him of it. Always love to tag along whenever the camp goes to lunar island.

Doesn't talk about the fact he's from the moon. Due to the survivors negative experiences with things that came from the moon/Alter, he worries they'd grow weary of him too.

Considers Wortox his closest friend. He's the only one that fully knows about Wormwood's origins and what he is, so he treats him with much more respect than most of the others. They naturally click together and he finds a lot of the imp's pranks/jokes funny.

Is fascinated by and looks up to WX the most. He considers them one of if not THE strongest survivor in the camp. Wants to emulate them to an extent. Isn't blind to how mean they are tho, just optimistic that they must have a softer side.

After learning about what a mom is, he fully considers Alter as his mom, and always refers to them as such.

Definitely is trans in some way, but doesn't really understand gender or biology enough to notice that. Just knows that being referred to as he "feels nice."

The night slowly turned into day, bright hues of orange, red and pink painting the sky. The air was crisp, fortelling of the coming winter, though it was still warm enough to walk about with only a thin coat to keep out the cold. Woodie and WX78 were on chopping duty. Usually, Woodie would spend the day chopping trees on his lonesome, enjoying some quality time with his axe. But the other survivors had begun to worry that doing so was putting some sort of strain on Woodie mentally (though he couldn't imagine why), and as such he was lumped with his cold partner. He grunted and swung at some trees, watching as they fell. WX78 continued to chop as well, focused soley on their task and nothing else. Woodie glanced at his partner. WX78 was someone he didn't spend a lot of time with, mainly due to their strange behaviours and tendancies to brag about their misplaced God complex. "…" "…" "…MY AXE BROKE. DO YOU HAVE ANY SPARE?" Woodie huffed. "Nah. You know I don't carry another axe but Lucy, eh?" "WHY DO YOU INSIST ON KEEPING THAT THING? IT DOES NOT OFFER ANY VALUE." "Value? You don't see a point in an axe that never breaks?" "WELL, I SUPPOSE SO, BUT IT STILL SEEMS PATHETIC. TO HAVE SUCH EMOTIONAL ATTATCHMENTS TO AN INANIMATE OBJECT." Woodie rolled his eyes and mumbled something to Lucy. Then, he tossed WX78 a twig and some flint. "You just wouldn't get it, eh? You're not like me or Lucy." WX78 assembled the axe and continued chopping. "THE ONLY REASON I DON'T GET IT IS BECAUSE LOGICALLY-"

"Logically what? You just don't understand, nothin wrong with it, nothing else aboot it, you just don't get it. Now get back to choppin'. We'll need more than this if we're gonna survive winter." For awhile, they continued in silence. Woodie stopped every now and again to ensure that he didn't accidentally transform, and then they sat down to eat. "…" WX78 munched on some gears and examined the ground beneath them. "…TICKILY." "You got some sensors on that body of yours?" Woodie seemed surprised. WX78 let out what was probably meant to be a laugh, but just sounded like another set of jangled notes. "OF COURSE. I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO TELL WHAT WAS WRONG WITH ME IF I DID NOT HAVE ANY SENSORS." Woodie reached out and touched them, pausing from eating his Beefalo and mashed potatoes. "Didja feel that?" WX nodded. Woodie tapped them in a seperate place, on the shoulder. "And that?" They grunted a yes. Finally, Woodie touched them on the forehead and grinned. "That too?" WX rolled their eyes and moved away a little. "YES, I FELT ALL THAT FINE, FLESHBAG. THANK YOU FOR TESTING MY RESPONSORS." He laughed. "No problem, machinebag." They sat in comfortable silence while they finished, slowly working through their meals until it was time to get back to felling the surrounding trees.

A few hours later, Woodie was getting particularly ferocious with a certain tree. Once it had finally collapsed, he let out a victory yell. "HA! TAKE THAT NATURE!" WX examined him. "…I ADMIRE YOUR LOVE FOR DESTRUCTION OF NATURE, FLESHLING. IT IS THE ONE THING I BELIEVE WE HAVE IN COMMON." The thought seemed to amuse Woodie, as he smirked. "It sounds like a riddle, doesn't it? What does a robot and a lumberjack got in common?" His words hung in the air, unanswered, as WX continued to work. It seemed like they didn't know the answer either. Although, a small feeling bloomed in their chest, like a bug burrowing through a new leaf, or a man beginning to cut at an old, gnarled tree.

A feeling they had tried to keep repressed for all too long.

The rest of the time they spent their was in shared silence, seemingly that they had nothing to realy discuss. It wasn't long before nightfall came and they used some of their collected wood to make a small fire. The pair sat together until suddenly, light rain began to fall. "AH- OH. IT'S RAINING." They reached around and tried to get an umbrella, only to realise they had forgotten it back at base. "I THOUGHT WE MAY BE BACK BY NOW, SO I DID NOT HAVE THE APPROPRIATE PROTECTION." The rain became heavier, falling and starting to electorcute them. They winced and tried to dry off. Woodie looked at them. "…Ey, wait there a moment." He got up and walked off into the darkness with a torch, starting to chop away at the trees. "FLESHLING, WHAT ARE YOU DOING? THAT WILL ONLY MAKE YOU TRANSFORM." He grumbled. "'At's the plan." It didn't take long before Woodie shifted into his werebeaver form. It snorted and turned to WX, approaching them. "AH. YOU HAVE HAIR. MORE THAN USUAL." It tilted its head a little, and then stood over WX, shielding them from the rain. It slowly began to run off his fur back, pooling onto the ground. Still he stood. "…THANK YOU, FURBAG. YOU ARE NOT AS BAD AS I THOUGHT."

I had an idea for an RPG fan game for Don't Starve.

And had ideas for animations for this gimmick where characters can become their skin sets (For example, the triumphant set) and use special moves. {This is going to be a bit of a ramble so I will be putting it under the cut}

For characters without certain skin sets (Example; Walter has no triumphant skin yet) the set ability thing will be locked. (I would hope to update the game to add the set in once that skin is released for them but for characters who will likely never receive a skin set [DLC characters and the forge] I will think of something.)

The Gorge set (Which is the Victorian set) is mostly focused around cooking the opponent (still working on this), some characters will have special moves connected to this set. (WX-78 is able to be in water, Wes can blind the opponent and more)

The Forge set is focused on combat, if a character has a special item like Woodie's Axe, Lucy, then that item will act like how they are in the Forge. Since The Forge has a second set, the Magmatic set is the second option for when you need to roast those who are standing in your way. (Or is the second level to the base forge set)

The Snowfallen set is focused on mostly spells, relating to the cold. Almost all of the characters have this set. [Working on this one too]

The Triumphant set, they use more shadow base attacks and some have very deadly special moves while Maxwell has a special move that summons a certain someone to help him. [Working on this one as well]

Last one for now... The Survivor set, they get a slight buff in defense and attack, the characters' attacks are given a little more power in it.

Hi Luci. Nice to see you here so... enthusiastic.

You know what we're working on, I'm playing Shen Wei for "Seawater is tears shed in the shores" in his solo/introspective scenes and adding details to his parts in the scenes Hyde wrote alone. Today I got to work in a shared character (both me and Hyde are writing him now), Xiao Hua. So, my last sentence, it's from him, to Wu Xie:

“That's why we don't treat love like business - as long as someone still knows what love is worth, that someone has not yet lost their soul.”

Since this fic started as a short-story with 3 main characters and a simpler Angst Plot, it's a surprise the proportions it took in less than a week and how Xiao Hua is getting the spotlight there too, yet the conflict is not about him, I'd say he's a late main character.

Facts that may be interesting for you: -After I read the first scenes of this fic, I jumped into writing Shen Wei's pov without permission and added in between lines some headcanons I have as analyst. Hyde liked it and now I'm a co-author by accident, but this made my days off so much better -Xiao Hua's pov changed the whole pace of this work, so you will know that once he's in scene, things won't go as you could be expecting in the first parts of the fic -Arjun's portrayal of Lin Jing is flawless, he begins as the more in-canon character, even the narration he and Hyde made for the LJ & ZYL scene looks like you were reading a scene in Guardian Novel. Needless to say I laughed, despite all the previous and later Angst. The scene develops for a more real-monk thing, as we enjoy. We had no plans to bring Lin Jing to this story, but here he is and he also changed the pace. -This work was created because of your request for the Frailties and Nuances series, in the song Run, by Rhodes, that I posted here a while ago. The most prominent setting in this work is a similar place to the one in the music video. That said: this fic has full soundtrack (thanks to your help) and the playlist will be linked, and this fic has art; I don't know how many, Hyde sketched a few, finished a painting, and by the time we get the writing done, I don't know how many more artworks we'll have, but there's potential for an illustrated fic. -Tazzy is working as the photographer, choosing scenes and locations to inspire the sets and art. Two of the photos totally captured me and because of that, Shen Wei, who didn't have any scenes in that setting, now does. (Thank you @tazzy-ace ) -None of us know the end of the story, although it seems predictable for being part of that specific series. -For Humor or Angst, Da Qing raised ZYL nonetheless

Random DST lore ideas

Basically just a myriad of thoughts and connections I made. One day I'll actually make a post/series of posts with a more well thought out timeline theory complete with images and in depth explanations but until then I'll make this less organized post where I just dump all my ideas! Enjoy ✌

Okay a quick one about Wanda. Her short doesn't tell us how she has time powers, but piecing together from her quotes, she seems to have made a deal in order to get them. Now, the thing is her deal was unlike the one of say, Wigfrid or Wilson. She didn't make it with Maxwell surely as they don't recognize eachother. We know it's someone allied with the shadows/Them rather than Alter (moon). So she probably had a deal with Them... just completely separate from Maxwell? Or she got her power like Maxwell and her tampering is also letting shadow creatures in the real world like the Codex Umbra. This isn't too big, Wanda isn't a lore relevant character, but I really like her so she gets a spot :3

This one is probably already known, but in the Walter short we can see a PR 76 in Woodies cabin. This means Woodie also made a deal with Maxwell. He probably either wanted his curse gone or Lucy back or something.

This seems pretty important. WX doesn't recognize the divining rod. This is important because it is literally a Voxola radio. Winona recognizes it. Okay, so what? Wagstaff simply made the radio after the whole WX fiasco, so after the were thrown in the Constant. But the problem is ... PR 76 , ML 77 (the gramophone), WX 78. Logically, the radio was made first, then the gramophone and THEN WX. So the radio would have ALREADY been made when WX was still around and working with Wagstaff. So this either means Wagstaff didn't tell them (which doesn't make a lot of sense? He has no reason to keep the radio of all things a secret. WX knew about the portal for Pete's sake) or Wagstaff... named his inventions in reverse order. Somehow. Which I wouldn't put past him. (Also he stops using that naming convince with his other invitations like thumper and goggles. Interesting.) Anyway this makes the Wagstaff timeline even more complicated than it already is. Yay.

Webbers dad has an alchemy engine, we know this. But he also has a pair of spectogoggles or whatever they're called. Another Wagstaff invention. Not lore relevant necessarily it just shows Wagstaff and dad were probably working for a longer time (also dont come at me with the they're related theory. Please. Those types of theories piss me off because they bring absolutely nothing substantial to the table. Also Webber would recognize Wagstaff is he were a relative.) Either that or Wagstaff is fucking Webbers dad and forgetting his shit in the guys home oops/j

CHARLIE AND MAXWELL ARE NOT METHEUS AND CYCLUM. That theory sucks and makes the potential lore of the Constant suck. They can be symbolic parallels but they're not eachother LITERALLY. Charlie and Maxwell were normal ass people before the Codex was found. I rest my case.

Charlie is trying to take over the Constant. That's her endgame. She already has the Shadow Throne powers, she only needs to take out Alter now. That's what she is doing in Axiom Visus. Trying to channel the power of the moon trough the tragic torch. Go girl fuck it up I guess

Some shit happened to Wagstaff. Like some crazy shit. Look at him in the WX short. His very... reserved. And worried. And doesn't look all that happy when he sees the consciousness transfer worked. Also he is clearly younger. He opposes WX because he is afraid of what problems their pursuit of innovation will bring. Ie the consequences of technological advances. Now look at Wagstaff in DS. The guy is insane. He is just so amazed by everything, he is fascinated when he gets attacked by Charlie, he wants to get on the Shadow Throne, he wants to bring the shadow magic to the real world for "military applications". That would absolutely bring consequences with it. Girl its 1920s they would start a fucking WAR. And he already showed being okay with transfering stuff from the Constant to the real world (see Webber short). The 2 Wagstaffs are very different. Something must have happened that made him change his mind so drastically. Klei give the old man a proper backstory I'm SO CURIOUS!!!

Wagstaff has a poster of a terrorbeak (probably an old ad for Maxwells show) in the portal room which is presumably his office (see Winona short). This could probably link him to Maxwell. Maxwells quotes for the moon storm DST event and his usage of Voxola products for access to the outside seem to show the 2 are closer than we thought.

The Forge and Gorge events may be inspired by 2 of the horsemen of the apocalypse War and Famine. This means that Pestilence and Death similar events could exist. Not a theory just a neat idea.

-While on that topic, I also wish more people would think about giving her a personality and relationships beyond Woodie. True, she doesn't really trust other people with herself, but everyone else are basically total strangers! Who also probably aren't as familiar with her needs and boundaries as Woodie is! They've clearly known each other a very long time, judging by both their dialouge. (Lucy knows Woodie well enough to know something's bothering him from an expression, while Woodie mentions having built a house together, which he calls the "first" house, implying they've built multiple. They're also comfortable enough to poke fun at one another.) Not to mention, it's also really hard to trust people when you have literally no physical agency whatsoever on your own. Really all I think would need to happen is to give her the oppurtunity to get comfortable with other people, and for them to learn at least the basics of how to treat her.

(I think her and Winona specifically would have some things to bond over, both being rather chatty women working in fields that are typically dominated by men.

And both Lucy and Willow take joy in destroying things, one way or another. Willow also says that she thinks she and Lucy could be friends and I grab that and run with it.

Maxwell also already seems to know Lucy, and greets her a lot less stiffly than he does other characters.)

-Also in terms of human interpretations. Muscles. And practical work clothes. Please. Consider giving her those. You think Lucy, given a body and an axe to swing *wouldn't* be out working just as much, if not more than Woodie? You're wrong.

-There's so much more I could say but this is a mess and it's getting long already im gonna move on to WX-78

-This robot is so fucking sad you guys

-Given hints in dialouge and similar naming schemes it's likely Wagstaff built them and honestly?

-If Robert Wagstaff was my first introduction to humans I'd want them all dead too. I doubt this man would have ever treated WX-78 as much more than a machine, or a means to some end, or just another successful experiment. And. WX-78 is not just a machine. WX is sapient. And they. Clearly experience and expresses emotion, they just lack empathy, which isn't the same thing.

-I also think that the talking to non-sapient machines things and projecting onto them actually comes off as really, really, lonely.

-Which, moving onto DST. I don't think WX actually really hates or doesn't care about what happens to the other survivors. Likes the others? God no. Tolerates them? Yes. Have accidentally gotten attatched to them once they realize that the organics *aren't* trying to pull some trick and are just? Genuinely treating it like something that is alive and worthy of basic respect because they aren't smelly capitalist old men? And also increase WX-78's personal chances of survival? Absolutely.

-So the other survivors are probably the closest thing to stability that WX-78 has ever had and they don't know how to deal with that because depite having the intelligence of an adult, life-experience-wise they're probably like 3 so they just climb on top of the furniture and hiss and bite at anyone who gets too close.

-In conclusion WX-78 is basically the nightmare family cat who hates everyone but would also crumple up like a tin can if they somehow lost the rest of the survivors.

Transformation: Their menacing appearance starts looking more and more threatening, but less and less practical. By Darkness, they can barely stand upright due to all the "upgrades" they've installed. 

Wickerbottom

Start of a run: "Welcome, dearie. It is imperative to your survival that you start studying this world. In here, knowledge is key."

Entering Adventure Mode: "So, you've chosen to enter my door, hmm? You must feel quite confident in your knowledge of survival. Let's test that, shall we?

Entering Chapter Two: "Hmm, how… interesting. You must have learned a lot more than I anticipated. Curious."

Entering Chapter Three: "Now, dearie, I appreciate a knowledgeable student. But I do not appreciate your attitude. You need to learn to respect your elders. Even if it must be through the hard way."

Entering Two Worlds: "Congratulations, dearie, you passed your test. Barely. While I do not appreciate unruly, disrespectful bra- I mean, students, I do believe you still deserve a reward. I do hope you enjoy your stay."

Entering Darkness: "Harrumph, of all the disrespectful, uncultured, uneducated peasants I've captured, you are by far the most infuriating one yet! You must learn to respect those above you, especially those of higher power!"

Transformation: Her appearance starts to deteriorate, looking progressively more ghoulish as you progress. By Darkness, she looks like she's crumbling into dust, barely held together through nightmare fuel and force of will.

Woodie

Start of a run: "Hey there, buddy. Sorry aboot bringing ya here, but a deal's a deal.  Now get chopping, cause Lucy's coming soon.

Entering Adventure Mode: "You found my door, eh buddy? I guess you must be excited to see more of ol' Woodie. It ain't gonna be easy, but I appreciate the effort.

Entering Chapter Two: "You're still alive? That's a surprise. I thought Lucy would have dealt with you back there. Maybe I'm doing something wrong here."

Entering Chapter Three: "You're starting to get on my nerves, buddy. Lucy's been saying things about you, and I don't like any of it. You should just quit while you still have the chance."

Entering Two Worlds: "Hey, buddy, pal, amigo. I got a little proposition for ya. You stay here, where there are plenty of trees to chop and no danger to keep you from that, and in exchange you stay here forever! Doesn't that sound nice?

Entering Darkness: "That's it! I've been trying to be nice to you this entire time, but every time you keep throwing it back in my face. Well, fine. No more Mr. Nice Woodie!"

Transformation: Starts to gain aspects of his werebeaver form as the adventure goes on, him trying to hide them away from you. Come Darkness, he looks more like a monstrous humanoid beaver than what he used to look like.

Wes

Start of a run: Waves hello at the survivors with a warm smile. The smile quickly turns into a shark toothed grin as he poofs away.

Entering Adventure Mode: Looks surprised, before fanning himself, as if surprised they decided to start looking for little old him. He giggles to himself before disappearing.

Entering Chapter Two: Stands around dumbstruck for a few seconds, before shaking his head and regaining his smug aura. He doesn’t even bother looking at you when he disappears.

Entering Chapter Three: Has a scowl on his face, his cheeks puffing up as he stumps his foot on the ground before poofing away.

Entering Two Worlds: Has a very strained smile on his face as he presents the island to the survivors. He waggles his finger no, before giving the player a glare as he disappears.

Entering Darkness: Is outright foaming at the mouth and baring sharp fangs, looking as if he’s about to bite the player’s head off. He calms himself down enough to regain his regular form, then snaps his fingers with a scowl on his face before poofing away,

Transformation: Grows progressively more monstrous and gangly looking. His stomach starts caving in, and drool sometimes pools out of his mouth as the chapters go on. His makeup looks worse and worse. By Darkness, he looks like a wildly misshapen mime with too large limbs and too big fangs. He returns to normal after that, though.

Don't Starve characters: Sims 2 aspirations edition

(for the like 3 people who are into both games and anyone else I can drag along with my enthusiasm)

Wilson: Knowledge monotype; he exhibits the classic Knowledge Sim flaw of putting his curiosity above his self-preservation instinct. And his social life.

Knowledge Sim (fondly denigrating)

Willow: Fire is not an aspiration, unfortunately. I might pick Pleasure or Pleasure/Popularity instead? Pleasure is kind of the "screw around having fun with few long-term goals" aspiration.

Wolfgang: Popularity might be a good choice for his primary aspiration; I can't resist the urge to put Grilled Cheese as his secondary aspiration, although if it weren't for that, Popularity/Family would be a logical choice.

Wendy: Preteen, therefore Grow Up aspiration

WX-78: "World domination" doesn't fit very well into the aspiration system. Fortune is too materialistic, Popularity is too nice. (The Sims 2 GBA does have an "Intimidating" aspiration, and there's an unfinished, dummied-out "Power" aspiration in the main Sims 2 game that combines elements of Popularity and Fortune.) I suppose they could be an incredibly vindictive Popularity Sim if you reflavoured "friend" as "minion", since that aspiration already has a vindictive streak.

Wickerbottom: Knowledge monotype

Knowledge Sim (compliment)

Woodie: What DOES Woodie want out of life, besides trees? He doesn't want kids enough for Family aspiration, but Romance is about being a casanova, so his bond with Lucy isn't helpful here. He might be a friendly enough guy for the Popularity aspiration?

Wes: Popularity/Pleasure maybe, both to suit his artistic aspirations and because he likes both friendship and simple pleasures.

Maxwell: Probably Popularity/Fortune, although I could see a reversal of that; he's clearly not very good at being a Popularity Sim since the bread and butter of that aspiration is wanting to have lots of friends, but this could be explained by personality point distribution (he's on the former rather than the latter side of the Shy/Outgoing and Mean/Nice scales). He does fit the other foci of the Popularity aspiration with his desire to be famous and well-regarded, and his insistence on sticking with a performing arts career instead of taking a duller but more profitable job when he was having money problems.

I could make a case for Knowledge being his secondary aspiration instead given his history with delving into arcane secrets, but I don't think that takes precedence over his taste for the finer things in life.

Wagstaff: Knowledge/Fortune; scientific discovery is clearly important to him (and he has all the Knowledge Sim flaws Wilson does) but so is putting his discoveries to use, and even if it's just a means to fund his experiments he definitely cares about making money and can be unscrupulous about how he gets it, c.f. his line for Snake Oil.

Knowledge Sim (derogatory)

Winona: Family/Knowledge, possibly? Knowledge aspiration is the closest I can think of for her interest in machines and building things, although that conflicts with her disinterest in academics.

Wigfrid: Might be Popularity monotype since "Win a Fight" is a Popularity want.

Webber: Grow Up

Walani: Pleasure monotype, most likely. I could see Pleasure/Popularity with an outside chance of Pleasure/Family if you were keen to give her a secondary aspiration.

Warly: Family/Pleasure because the Pleasure aspiration has a lot of food-focused stuff in it (the only reason he's not Family monotype).

Woodlegs: Fortune/Pleasure, the most piratey aspiration combo

Wilbur: He would probably be modeled as a pet, which don't have aspirations.

Wilba: Pleasure monotype for now, as an adolescent; might pick up a secondary aspiration later.

Wormwood: Popularity monotype

Wheeler: Pleasure/Knowledge seems like the most adventurous aspiration combo

Wortox: I was 110% ready to say Pleasure monotype, but Popularity is the only aspiration with the Pull Prank want, so Pleasure/Popularity it is!

Wurt: Grow Up

Walter: Either Grow Up if he's still in the child age stage or Knowledge (no secondary aspiration *yet*, but he sure likes cryptids, a noted Knowledge Sim trait) if he's at the beginning of the teen age stage.

You may be noticing a lot of Popularity sims in this mix, but DST *is* a co-op game with like a PG rating, so I think it's just the power of friendship at work and not me being biased and/or using that aspiration as a catchall. Probably.

(Startin’ off nice and slow, folks, here we go.)

“Happy wriggling day, Mushy!” Drayco crowed, flinging their arms around Musrio’s neck.

Musrio tipped and turned his head to look at his matesprit without hitting them with his horns. The rustblood was sat at the dinner table, having what he’d thought was a quiet evening coffee in his favorite sweater, until his flushmate snuck up on him. He looked at them, amused, his lips unwittingly tugged into a tired smile.

“Thxnk you, Dee.” He murmured, releasing his mug with one hand to gently scratch his claws through his lover’s hair. Drayco tipped their head back, into his hand, a gurgling purr in their throat.

“Yoou wanna doo anything special foor toonight?” They asked, opening their eyes to look at Musrio.

“Not rexlly. I don’t xge, I see no rexson to celebrxte my hxtchdxy. Ribbit.” Musrio shrugged. Drayco clearly didn’t like that answer. They released Musrio from their embrace and stood up.

“Coome oon, noothing at all?” They frowned, pulling out a chair and taking a seat.

“Well… depends. Did you hxve something in mind?” Musrio asked, taking a sip of coffee.

“Uh, noo, noot really, but I’m doown foor anything. Coome oon, yoou name it. Anything yoou wanna doo today. Besides woork.” They added quickly as Musrio opened his mouth. The rust shut his jaws again and snorted. He took another drink and sighed, staring into his mug as he thought.

Drayco watched him for a moment, before they sat up. “Wait. Befoore yoou pick anything, can I give yoou yoour gift?” They asked, getting to their feet. Musrio looked up, surprised.

“You got me x gift?” He repeated as Drayco walked past, towards the back of the hive where their room was.

“OOf coourse I did!” They called over their shoulder, disappearing down the hall. Musrio turned back to his mug, taking a deep drink. His free hand reached up and wrapped around his amulet, his thumb brushing the scar on his throat. He tried to swallow the funny feeling in his chest, but it didn’t leave, crowding his bloodpumper like the thoughts that filled his thinkpan.

He was thankfully distracted when Drayco returned, a box in their hands. It was wrapped in black wrapping paper, with a red bow taped on top. It was surprisingly big, Musrio realized as Drayco sat it in front of him.

“OOkay, here. It’s… it’s noot much, but I coouldn’t decide what too get yoou.” Drayco explained awkwardly, rubbing the back of their neck. They sat down, slinging their air tank’s bag off their shoulder and sitting it at their feet.

Musrio set his mug to the side, Drayco watching his every move as he tore the paper off. Under the paper was a cardboard box, the top already slit open for him. Pulling back the flaps, Musrio found a large, black, wicker basket, stuffed full of various items. He pulled the basket from the box and set it on the table in front of himself before he began going through the items.

The first thing laid on top was a pencil case. When he pulled the zipper down and looked inside, he found it stuffed with many, rather expensive eyeliners, all in one color: Black.

He pursed his lips, trying and failing to stop a smile as Drayco giggled.

“How mxny of these did you get?” He asked, trying not to laugh.

“Uh… soomewhere between twenty and foorty, I think. I loost coount.” Drayco admitted, grinning, “But at least yoou woon’t run oout foor a few sweeps.” They added.

Musrio zipped the case back up and set it aside with a chuckle, pulling out the next thing; a set of six, red and black candles. He raised them to his nose and sniffed; frosted raspberry, one of his favorite scents.

“I saw the candles in yoour lab were getting loow, I figured yoou were needing replacements.” Drayco explained.

“I wxs. Thxnks, Dee.” Musrio purred, setting the candles aside and reaching for the next items.

A bottle of raspberry body lotion, a jar of bath salts, a face mask, and black nail polish.

A box of expensive coffees from East Alternia.

Several pairs of thick, fuzzy socks, all of them patterned with skulls, ghosts, jack-o-lanterns, and other silly All Hallows Eve symbols.

A coffee mug decorated with pictures of poisonous dart frogs.

And finally, at the bottom, a new sweater, with the four quadrantal signs on the chest.

He held it aloft, staring at the symbols as his throat attempted to close on him. He swallowed thickly, overcome with a nearly painful amount of feelings; the most prevalent of which was the warm, red flush of affection for his matesprit.

Drayco watched him, concerned. “Mush? Yoou okay?” They asked. Musrio nodded, pressing the sweater to his face; it had been hidden in Drayco’s room so long, it smelled like them, he realized, taking a deep, slow breath.

“Y- yexh. Thxnk you, Deedee. I love it.” He mumbled into the wool, raising his head after a moment to smile at the bronzeblood.

Drayco chirred. “Yoou’re welcoome.”

Musrio rose to his feet, so Drayco did to, only for Musrio toss the sweater into his seat and embrace the bronze. Drayco froze, startled, before they laughed and hugged him back.

Musrio finally pulled back, before bonking his forehead to Drayco’s and kissing their mask. “Flushed for you, Deedee.” He mumbled, embarrassed. Drayco, for their part, was grinning like an idiot.

“Flushed foor yoou, toooo, Mushy.” They whispered, kissing Musrio’s nose, right on his scar. “Soo, you really doon’t wanna doo anything tooday?”

“Cxn we just get txkeout xnd wxtch movies? Thxt’s… rexlly xll I wxnt. Ribbit.” Musrio confessed. Drayco gave their mate another squeeze.

“Hell yeah we can. I’ll goo get blankets and stuff, yoou pick oout moovies.” Drayco ordered, pulling away. They scooped up their bag and hurried towards their respiteblock. Musrio rolled his eyes and packed his gifts back into the box so they wouldn’t get lost, before he headed to the sitting room to do as he was told.

He picked out several films, a mix of both his and Drayco’s favorites, and stacked them on the coffee table. Drayco returned, their arms loaded with pillows, blankets, and one ferret slung around their shoulders.

“Is it cooool if Luci jooins us?” The bronze asked, dumping their armload on the couch.

“Of course it is.” Musrio hummed as he turned on the TV and set up the first movie, while Drayco got the pillows and blankets organized. Musrio picked up the remote, before he paused as a thought struck him. “Lucy.” He repeated.

Drayco, who’d turned towards the mealblock to get drinks, paused. “What aboout him?”

“No, not… not your ferret. Lucinx. Ruthless’ wife.”

“What aboout her?” Drayco corrected themself. Musrio shook his head.

“She’s the one xncestor I cxn’t seem to bring bxck. I cxn’t rexch her. I don’t… know why, though. Ribbit.”

Drayco frowned, adjusting their mask. “Didn’t Forsaken say she was looooking foor Ruthless?”

“Yes, but- she’s still dexd. Xll records of her sxy she’s dexd. The spirits tell me she’s dexd. Ribbit.” Musrio explained, before he sighed. “Thxt mexns I should be xble to rexch her, but I cxn’t. There’s nothing in the veil for me to pull bxck to the world of the living. Ruthless even gxve me their wedding rings xs x conduit, and nothing hxppened. Ribbit.”

Drayco hummed in thought as they wandered into the mealblock. When they came back with a soda for themself and a refilled coffee for Musrio, the rustblood had taken a seat on the couch and wrapped himself in a blanket. Drayco moved to join him, sitting their bag on the floor by the couch and getting cozy in their own blanket.

“Maybe she dooesn’t want too coome back.” They said at last, shuffling to pull their legs onto the couch and lay their head on Musrio’s shoulder. They slung their ferret off from around their neck and placed him on their lap. Lucifer chirped, curling into a donut and nibbling on his own paws.

“Thxt doesn’t mxtter. None of the xncestors wxnted to come bxck. I brought them bxck by force, becxuse… becxuse Neviserrxth wxnted me to. Ribbit.”

“And we still have noo idea why it wants that?”

“None.”

Drayco fell silent, their right shoulder suddenly uncomfortably warm as Musrio pressed play on the movie.

It was a few hours later, when the movie was wrapping up and they were waiting on the takeout delivery, that Drayco finally voiced what they were thinking.

“Doo you think… OOliver might have soomething too doo with it?” They asked, touching their shoulder; a thin layer of fabric separated their palm from the black, skeletal hand tattoo.

“No. Oliver doesn’t cxre xbout Ruthless. He only cxres xbout us, xnd seeing us dexd xgxin. Ribbit.” Musrio said, reaching up to rub his amulet.

“Dooes he? I mean, we doon’t even knoow what her next moove is. We haven’t seen her since-”

“I know. But I don’t think it’s smxrt for us to go hunting him down. We hxve to wxit for them to mxke the first move. Ribbit.”

Nightmare Headcanons by wrath-is-a-deadly-sin

I have a few headcanons for people’s nightmares and their reactions after - if I give you a few would you help me with some of the characters I’m less familiar with? Either way here is some of my headcanons (will be long, really long sorry, thought about this a lot) (not sure if this could be considered close to canon???)

Ey! These are really good! And more than happy to help with the ones you couldn’t figure out. =) And hey, since nightmares are a loose canon, anything kind of goes. (And honestly some of my own headcanons are like this too so no worries!) Alrighty, let’s get this headcanon show on the road!

Wilson - He’ll wake up and have a very violent reaction and will attack anyone who tries to calm him. It’s sometimes necessary to hold him still until he calms down and realizes where he is. His nightmares are often fights where he is surrounded by the others dead bodies

Willow - She will wake up with a gasp but quickly realizes it was a nightmare and likes fire and someone to talk to her so she doesn’t think about it. Often about being alone and in the dark being hunted by shadows 

Wolfgang - Wakes up with a shout and will shake for a while. Finds it best if people talk to him, doesn’t like contact until he’s back in the present. Dreams of his time in service or violent battles in The Constant.

  Wendy - Dreams of her sister’s death or trying to bring her back with the flower but it not working no matter what she does. Likes to see Abigail to remember her sister is by her side. Her reaction is often waking up with tears very quietly. Will accept hugs from those she trusts

  WX-78 - WX-78 doesn’t really dream much. Though when they do it’s usually dreams of dominating the world. So, probably no nightmares save maybe frying their circuits in water. They just deal with their nightmares on their own because they don’t need help from any organic life forms. They just wake up quietly and go about their business. 

  Wickerbottom - Rarely dreams when she sleeps as she is usually too tired. After what few nightmares she has she will sit by the fire and try to read and drink a warm drink of some sort. Usually of losing everyone in fires or of bad situations in The Constant. Wakes up quickly but not violently

  Woodie - Woodie has nightmares of losing Lucy. Both how she is now and before she got turned into an axe. He hates remembering how sick she was. Usually feels better by just talking with someone or Lucy herself about his nightmares. Also has nightmares of losing everyone. He tends to wake up shouting or gasping before composing himself. 

  Wes - Wakes up silent and with no visible reaction other than increases breathing, likes physical contact and quiet talking. Often dreams of when he was trapped in the throne room.

Maxwell - Nightmares of what happened to get him here and of Charlie, Charlie dying, killing him ect. And possibly PTSD of the train crash he’d rather just forget. There’s a lot of things he wish his nightmares wouldn’t remind him of. He tends to like coping on his own terms since as usual doesn’t want to show weakness. (Which hurts him in the long run with bottling things up.) He tries to keep his reactions as quiet as possible but he does tend to wake up screaming.  (William is about the same though he tends to be more open with talking if coaxed into doing so. Mainly by Wilson.)

Webber - Dreams of their friends and found family dying or getting hurt. Likes to find and hug whoever died and often wakes up crying and sobbing.

  Wigfrid - Nightmares of when she or her friends have died. Failed battles are never fun to remember, especially with what happened. Tends to feel better by doing a patrol around the camp and doing some practice sparring. It gives her assurance that she cane protect her friends. Wakes up with a gasp and shaking like crazy. 

  Warly - Warly has nightmares of never seeing his maman ever again or They possibly doing something to her. Talking this out with someone usually helps or cooking a meal to get his nerves to calm down. He’s doing his best not to lose hope. His reactions are quiet but he does freeze up when he awakes. 

  Wormwood - Likes to watch everyone else in the camp to remind themself everyone is still ok, will often sit by a tree and just watch in silence, will accept and enjoy company but doesn’t like to talk until they feel better.

  Winona - While she is stoic about it, she still does have nightmares about what happened at the factory, though its worse in the nightmare because she’ll see Genny and the rest of her co-workers dead and Nightmare Monsters everywhere. She tends to cope with building things to get her mind off it. She sits up quickly, gasping when she wakes up, her body trembling. 

  Wortox - He has nightmares of unintentionally killing everyone in the camp with his powers. He usually calms down after checking on everyone but it’s something he does worry about a lot. Usually doing some nice deeds around the camp can calm him down or playing with fireworks with Willow. He tends to wake up teary eyed and shaking. 

  Wurt - Wurt has nightmares of being turned on by the others. She needs assurance that this is not the case but it is something she still worries about. She feels better after Wickerbottom reads some stories to her. She’ll usually wake up crying and wanting a hug.

“Alright. Keep in mind, this isn’t general looks, this is my romantic-taste-o-meter.” she cracks her knuckles. “Wilson is an 8, jumps to a 10 when his stubble grows in, and a 6 when he fully grows his beard put. I swear a bird nested in there once. Charlie’s a 10, too. She’s...wonderful.”

“Wolfgang is a 2. Not my type, and he reminds me of my teddy bear. WX is also a 2, because they scare me.”

“Wickerbottom is a 0. She’s like the gramma I never had, and there’s no way anything’s happening. Woodie’s a 4, because I think Lucy’s got him locked down. Warly’s also a four. He has a nice butt.”

“Wes is a 1. I can only be friends with my mime buddy!”

“Wagstaff And Woodlegs are both a 0. Way too old.”

“Wigfrid And Walani are both a 7. I can’t deduct a point from Walani just because she loves the sea. Wheeler and Winona are both a 6. I want to get to know them better.”

“Then there’s Maxwell. He’s a negative bazillion.”

Well, as I am a very rational person and I like to find the meaning behind names and stuff, I thought it would be fun if I tried to find some possible meanings behind Don’t Starve character’s names. Below the Keep reading there is the result. Enjoy.

From the base game

Wilson: "Son of the protector". It also refers to his final fate in Don't Starve, where he becomes Maxwell/William Carter's successor by taking his place on the Nightmare Throne. But other than that, we all know why this name was chosen. 

Percival: It has many meanings: according to various sources, it could mean "hero" (in reference to the Arthurian Percival), "he who pierces the valley", "hard steel" or "destroyer". Wilson Percival Higgsbury is the main character of Don't Starve and therefore the "hero", he wants to change the world with the power of his mind (he wants to "pierce the valley"), he is determined (his will is made of "hard steel"), but his attempts end in tragedy, making him a "destroyer" in a sense. 10/10

Higgsbury: It doesn't exist outside Don't Starve world, but we can try to understand the underlying meaning behind it. Higgs is an early diminutive of the name Richard (Old English is that odd), which means "powerful ruler"; it is also a reference to the "Higgs mechanism", a Standard Model of particle physics to explain the generation mechanism of the property "mass" for gauge bosons. "Bury" is a common suffix in English surnames meaning "fortified place". Therefore, "Higgsbury" means "fortified place of the powerful ruler" with a pinch of physics thrown in. That is a sum of all we already said about this character.

Willow: This name reflects the qualities of the willow tree, meaning "slender, graceful and lithe (flexible and resilient)"; according to other references, it can also mean "freedom", "resolute" or "peaceful". Other than that, in the past the name Wilhelmina was sometimes misspelled as "Willow Mina", which gives it the meaning of "willing protector".

Willow is my favorite character in Don't Starve, and one of the reasons is that, banally, I like the name "Willow" ever since I heard it for the first time in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". This name has no apparent correlation with her character, as it is usually associated with water, calm and peace and Willow is nothing like that. However, the willow tree is also flexible, resilient and it can thrive in harsh and hostile environments and our Willow reflects these qualities even if she is not using fire. The misspelling of "Wilhelmina" can also be a possible origin of her name, as it was pretty common to spell words and names in a wrong way in the past (creating interesting variations from the original name, just like "Richard becomes Dick, and Dick becomes Higg" like seen above). And if you are still not satisfied, there is the meaning of Willow among Bach Flowers, a brand of homeopathic remedies used to positively affect emotions. Willow Bach Flower is used to help the bitterness caused by adversity, which often leads to destructive behaviors if left untreated, which is a perfect description of Willow's mental state at the beginning of Don't Starve. (And I found out about them just because I was looking for natural remedies to keep my pets calm during a long car drive. Life is amazing, eh?)

Wolfgang: "Travelling or advancing wolf". It is just appropriate for the strongest character in the game.

Wendy: This name became popular thanks to the novel "Peter Pan" with the meaning of "friend"; it is also common as a pet name for Gwendolyn, which means "fair-skinned" or "blessed". Wendy is a blonde, fair-skinned girl blessed by having the power to summon her late twin's ghost to protect her from harm.

Abigail: "Father's joy", or "she who gives joy". Abigail is one of the few people able to make Wendy feel some joy after her own demise. It could also be a clue of the fact that Abigail was the older twin and the original cause of joy for her parents, and that Wendy's birth immediately after was unexpected (at the time it was impossible to determine if a woman was pregnant with twins). Another possible meaning of the name is "a lady's maid" because it was the name of a maid in the play The Scornful Lady by Beaumont and Fletcher. Just like Abigail became Wendy's protector/minion after her own death.

Lillian: It's Abigail's second name and it means "pure and innocent like a lily", which reflects her being dead when she was still a child, therefore when she was still pure and innocent. According to other sources, it might be a diminutive for the name Elizabeth, which means "my God is an oath", which reflects her role as Wendy's sworn protector. It might also be a fusion of the names Lily and Ann, which mean respectively "blossoming lily flower" and "grace".

WX-78: It follows the name convention of Wagstaff's main inventions (radio PR-76, gramophone MD-77). According to the serial number they were among his last creations before Wagstaff reached the Constant.

Wickerbottom: It's her last name and it doesn't seem to exist outside of Don't Starve world. However, a possible meaning can be found by looking for the etymology of "Bottom", which gives her surname the meaning "from the wicker valley". It is interesting to notice that wicker is usually made of willow, a tree commonly associated with witches, which is appropriate for one of the strongest magic users in the game.

Woodie: More commonly spelled Woody and a common diminutive for Woodrow, it means "from the cottages in the wood" or "row of houses by a wood". It is actually a pun about him being a woodcutter.

Lucy: "Shining light". Wait a minute... 

Wes: Also a diminutive for Wesley, it means "from the west meadow". (...)

Maxwell: It can mean "from Maccus's pool/Magnus' spring/Mac's well"; it can also mean "capable". The name was chosen as a reference to the thought experiment of the "Maxwell's Demon" created by James Clerk Maxwell in 1867 as a hypothetical violation of the second law of thermodynamics.

William: It means "vehement protector". It was possibly chosen to further Maxwell's connection to Wilson.

Carter: "Cart maker" or "transporter of goods by cart". Maxwell made the Constant livable again thanks to his experiments and then he transported in there new people to use them for his plans.

Robert: "Famed, bright, shining". He was a famous inventor before he went missing.

Wagstaff: "He who brandishes the staff". It was usually used as a reference to a law officer during the Middle Ages and his quotes in the game seem to suggest that he would be more than happy to follow Their will, no matter how evil or dangerous it could be.

Charlie: "Free person", "strong and vigorous", "free thinker". She fully shows to live up to her name in Don't Starve Together.

Wigfrid: It is clearly a stage name. It could have two possible meanings: the first one is that it is just the name Sigfrid spelled with a "W", which would give the name the meaning of "victorious peace"; even if it is usually used as a male name, it can be used as a feminine name too in some countries of Northern Europe. The second possible meaning is that the name was chosen for some assonance with the original name of the actress, and taking into account the theory that "Wigfrid and the unused character Winnie are one and the same", it could mean that the real name behind "Wigfrid" might actually be Winifred, which means "peaceful" or "blessed peacemaking". And I am weirded out to associate "Wigfrid" to "peace" as much as you are, but like Latins said, "If you want peace, prepare for war". Her character just took it a bit too literally.

Webber: It is probably his surname, which means "weaver". But we all know why this name was chosen, so let's move on.

From Shipwrecked

Walani: I could not find its direct meaning online, so I tried to recreate it by searching for its parts. It could either mean "heavenly canoe" (and then it is a reference to her surfing ability) or "heavenly sound (of chord instrument)" (and then it is a possible reference to her being voiced by an ukulele). Walani is also an African word meaning "shining". Or it could be a diminutive of the name Walanika or Walanyka, the Hawaiian form of the name Veronica, which means "true image".

Warly: Normally spelled Warleigh, it means "from the weir meadow". And it makes another French speaking character associated with meadows for some reason.

Wilbur: It seems to have various meanings. It could mean either "dearly loved stronghold", "willful and bright" or even "wild boar". Which is ironic for a poop-throwing monkey, but it makes sense for a king with a higher intelligence compared to the other monkeys.

Woodlegs: I refuse to explain this one.

From Hamlet

Warbucks: Despite this surname is pretty common with the alternative spelling Warbuck, its original meaning was impossible to find (that probably is "from the buck's weir" by the fact that it begins with the prefix "War" which seems to mean "from the weir"). Thanks to the "Daddy Warbucks" cultural reference, it could just be meant as "rich benefactor", and he saw himself as one for the pig society for sure.

Wilba: It is a not so used anymore name with a lot of meanings, which includes "little bear", "winsdom and knowledge", "understanding" and "from the wine country". It is also used as a feminine form of Wilbur. Her name's many meanings refer to her being the pig princess (and therefore "the future wise and benevolent queen") of the opulent kingdom of Hamlet and her being affected by Lycanthropy.

Wormwood: He owes his name to Artemisia Absinthium, an ornamental plant which is also used as an ingredient in some alcoholic beverages.

Maybelle: Variation of the name Mabel, it means "lovable".

Dorothea: "Gift of God"

Wheeler: "Wheel maker"; other sources list its meanings as "lucky warrior" or "prosperous hero". For sure luck has an important part during her survival adventures, and her Navigadget can make her prosperous pretty quickly in Hamlet's world...

From Don't Starve Together

Bernie: Diminutive of Bernard, it means "bear". He is a teddy bear and his name sounds similar to "burning" in a reference to the fire-related abilities of his owner Willow.

Ashley: "Lives in the ash tree meadow". Her name contains the word "ash", referring to Willow's fire powers.

Winona: "Firstborn/eldest daughter". She is Charlie's older sister. Is any other information needed?

Wortox: Wortox is a totally original name (if you ignore the existence of a Swedish Death Metal band from the late 80s) which seems to have its root in the word "wort". "Wort" can have three different meanings: the most common of them is "unfermented beer". Beer is a beverage associated with demons because of its intoxicating effects. The second meaning derives from "St. John's wort", a flower known for its antidepressant effects and considered a magical plant able to repel witches and demons in the Middle Ages as a result. The third one comes from the Old High German, according to which "wort" means "word/verb", which is a callback to the concept of "Logos". "Logos" is a recurring theme in western philosophy, with so many meanings it would take a lot of time to explain every single one of them, so let us all thank Wikipedia for existing (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logos). The various metaphysical meaning of the term can be roughly summed up as "Logos is what exists in between the physical world and the metaphysical world". The word "logos" can be found in the Bible too, translated as "word" in English... and as "wort" in German. This kinda makes one of the possible translations of this word appropriate (and ironic) to name a demon who follows a metaphysical theme: one word, two meanings with more or less direct references to demons and one meaning with a metaphysics reference, add a final "-ox" and you got a cool name. (Now let me go put my head under some iced water because my brain is overheating thanks to my attempt to explain the last point about Wortox...)

Wurt: Its meaning changes according to the sources. As an alternative spelling of the name "Wurth", it means "worthy", possibly referring to her being a Mermguard. As a variation of "Wirth", it means "innkeeper" or "head of the family", and her purpose is to bring back the Merm King as the ruler of the Constant. As for the possible meanings of the word "wurt" itself, in Old High German it was "fate, destiny", in Old Saxon it was "plant", while in Low German it was "man-made hill or elevation", referring to a construction system designed to protect structures and buildings from flooding (just like the stilt houses that inspired the constructions Wurt is able to create for her fellow Merms).

Walter: A German masculine given name widely spread in Europe (and in the United States during the last century), it means "ruler of the army" or "powerful army".

Woby: It is apparently a surname which was first found in Lincolnshire as a variation of "Welby", which means "from the farm by the spring/stream".

Wanda: It is a Slavic origin name which means "from the Wend (Vandal) tribe", "young tree" or "stem". It became popular during the eighth century thanks to the daughter of King Krak, the legendary founder of Krakow. It was introduced in the English language in 1883 thanks to the eponymous novel by Ouida with the meaning of "wanderer".
