I love the serenity of fishing the North Shore before sunrise. Another day in my office. I can go the whole day without uttering a word. My buddy Jeff Konn and I were chatting about this. Back in the day Oahu was dubbed The Gathering Place not because it’s population was growing faster but because Oahu offered something important that the other islands lacked. Natural deep draft harbors and accessible fresh water. 2 very important features that our early pioneers needed to start thriving. Pipiwai Trail is a treasure of the National Park System, best of East Maui’s most dramatic stream and waterfall hikes. Сomfortable parking $25 per car. The trail has two parts. One is to the magnificent waterfall and the 2nd to the sacred pools. The way to the waterfall will take about an hour. Young athletic folks can walk in 40 minutes. This time we went only to the waterfall. It was a rainy. The rain was warm tropical, but wet :-) The trail has shade of leaves, so you do not need to use sunscreen. The road goes up and down with stone steps, a plastic walkway and through the mud. I think the mud never dries here because it is rain very often. Be sure to get some water and something to eat. All this way is worth seeing this splendor. Beautiful waterfall, bamboo forest, ferns, moss covered trees, creepers, Hawaiian rainforest. You will feel like you are transported to the prehistoric time.
