I try not to despair over stuff like follower count but it definitely is depressing

I've been skirting the 500 follower mark on twitch for almost a full year (which doesnt actually mean anything considering barely 1% of that interact), and every time it finally goes over 500, some people unfollow or inactive accounts get deleted and it falls back down

Seeing zero growth in actual active followers hurts, and there's barely any crossover with my tumblr followers even. I know i could try and promote my stuff here more but I already do and it has lead to no response at all

Everyone is so eager to share and promote their favourite already-popular streamer on this site and it does piss me off to see the same names over and over. where's my recognition and community who will do the same

From what I’ve learnt from the fact about how much Fake Peppino hates water to the point where he’ll drink it to avoid having it on him… it got me thinking.

Let’s put this into a scenario here. Let’s say, hypothetically, someone where to take Fake Peppino and throw him into something like a pool, would it be possible that he’d attempt to consume all the water before it makes him go all goopy and loose his form? And that’s assuming he can actually swim…

so, let's have a look-see at this hypothetical here, the way i see it there are two ways this could go!

the hypothetical though: SOMEBODY decides to be a jerk VERY rude and push this goopy fella into a big pool of water! obviously not ideal for Fakey.

now, the first direction it could go from here: usually, Fakey reserves trying to suck up any outside water if it's a smaller body, say falling into a puddle or being shoved into a bathtub. but, it's always possible he'd try it here, anything to stop the water from touching his sensitive outside skin! his insides are like a sponge though when it comes to liquids; they absorb very quickly, but it'll stay saturated in his skin for a while afterwards, until he dries or manages to fully convert it into goop.

but... an entire pool of water though... that's a lot of liquid.

and another fun fact, Fake Peppino hates being soggy. so now he's been shoved into a pool, panicked and drank a ton of water to save himself, and now he's wet and spongy...

he is not gonna be in the best of moods.

of course, that's only one of two ways this could go though! the other is much more simple....

that being, that it's way too much water to try that with. so the much more likely scenario that'll happen is simply this:

the well-known Fake Peppino Goop Pile. too much liquid and he can't even hold his form down! he won't dissolve in the water at least, just reduced to an extra-slimy, writhing blob of Goop. at which point he'd do everything he can to flee from the water, and start trying to find any way to dry off quicker.

how rude of somebody to push him into the water like that though; don't they know how uncomfortable being like this feels? at least there's one benefit to being a living pile of goo, and that's being able to smother the jerk who did this to you!

For the au ask game!

OKAY I wanted specifically to get to the pokemon au from the ask you sent, it's been cooking a bit so it's time to see what comes out of the oven, so... @azol-otl ty for the ask!

Crossover au's are all about the fused worldbuilding for me and speculating on how characters from universe A would fit into universe B heehee hoohoo - and for Batfam especially it's fun to think about the equivalent of their roles as vigilantes! What kind of people have the same level of celebrity, the same sideways seeking of justice?

Naturally this leads you to the gym leaders because a) it's the most fun and b) they are like. Quasi-law enforcement/educators/professional athletes depending on how you try to translate the innate child's perspective on the pokemon universe into something that makes sense as an adult lol ilu pokemon. [insert 'compels me though' gif here]

SO with this in mind, here's 5 fun facts (that are mostly backstory lmao) from a jaytim pokemon au I would write

I'm deeply ill about pokemon so this one goes under the cut lol:

Jason Todd used to be the Champion. He won the role after Dick Grayson quit a year or two before (Dick had been getting older and chafing under the League rules - meaning he'd been chafing under how Bruce ran the League) and was a fierce competitor who didn't believe in going easy on anyone. His Houndoom was a force to be reckoned with, and despite running a mostly Dark-type team, his Honchkrow cleaned up anyone thinking their Fighting-types could sweep. He looked after the League and Gotham with a cocky, self-assured attitude and the win record to back it up. .

Jason disappeared suddenly at the age of 15. Many assumed him dead, after a Rocket (Or whatever Gotham themed gang name we want to go with lol could be Team Joker) bombing in the area he'd last been seen, but he's officially declared missing. Bruce Wayne took back the duties of interim Champion as he once did for Dick Grayson, but he's not quite the mentor he once was. It's obvious he's grieving, and that he doesn't want to mentor any more twelve year olds. Dick signed up to be a Gym Leader shortly after this, returning from his trip about a year early to help out in the chaos following Jason's disappearance. .

Enter Tim Drake. Tim's gym challenge wasn't all that interesting in the circuit at first; he had a rocky start and had to retake a few gym challenges. He wasn't exactly sweeping on his first try every time like Jason had done. He didn't have the meteoric rise that caught the Champion's attention early, didn't get one-on-one mentorship or face-to-face meetings, cautionary advice and congratulations all rolled into one from Bruce Wayne himself - but Tim had patience and grit, and he paid attention. He was gunning for the Championship, and it wasn't just so he could prove himself. Team Rocket/Joker was still out there, and Bruce needed all the help he could get. He was always better for Gotham when he had a Robin. .

Dick had been nicknamed Robin for his all-Flying-type team and especially his Natu-then-Xatu; Jason followed up with his Murkrow-then-Honchkrow; Tim's Rookidee was one among many (Robin-esque pokemon were popularized by Dick and the trend remains through Tim's day) so he wasn't considered a possible Robin successor until it was a Corvisquire and he was about to face Dick Grayson himself, a badge away from Victory Road. By then, Tim and his team were a well-oiled machine (he runs mostly Steel-types lol but also Normal-types for the unexpected adaptability and the 'underestimate my rattata i dare you it's in the top peRCENTAGE--' of it all. FEAR.), and his loss-record had all but frozen while his win-record ticked higher and higher. .

Shit finally goes down about three years after Tim has become Champion and all but bullied Bruce into mentoring him (he basically said 'if you don't watch me, i'll go find Team Rocket/Joker on my own' and triggers all of Bruce's child endangerment traumas simultaneously) and the mysterious Rocket/Joker leader Red Hood shows up, bringing the gang out of the shadows in pursuit of a hidden agenda. Identity shenanigans and "wait is that a Houndoom? But he's only been using Ghost-types, it CAN'T be..." and heel-face turns abound. .

(BONUS FACT: Something something, Jason went into deep cover with Looker or whoever he is, that Interpol guy from X & Y (WAIT. LOOKER MIGHT ACTUALLY BE TALIA AL GHUL IN THIS AU HOHOHO), infiltrating the Rocket/Joker gang and going public as Red Hood is the first step in the last phase of the sting. Cue a million tense Jaytim interactions in which Tim is legitimately trying to take Red Hood down and Jason desperately tries to shake him so that he doesn't do anything that forces Jason to blow his cover. There is at least one 'tugged into a tight space to hide them both from the actual bad guys, "wait, did you just HELP me...?" "Think whatever you want, babybird"' interaction because I am a slut for the first sprinkles of a redemption arc that is rife with UST fufufu)

I am not sure if omnics and humans can actually get married, but I like to think that Ramattra would want to make you his partner «officially». Maybe without the wedding, the papers etc, he would just silently kneel and slip a ring on your finger that he (of course) made himself, just for you. Oh, that’s why he was touching, holding, squeezing your hands more often lately - he was trying to figure out your size, you think. Later on you would notice little engraving on his finger, imitating the ring that humans wear and robots don’t. You are a family.

What I love so much about Ramattra is that... I think fairly soon after he acknowledges his feelings for you is he would realize you are everything. He's all or nothing, if you crack that shell you are a part of him and he would know so, so early on that you are reshaping his future just by existing... and as such he will have been thinking about this for so long, debating what he could do that wouldn't endanger you or himself, but something that was... meaningful.

i’ve always said social media is a bubble, it’s already the way social media is designed. every single platform has a set of algorithms that gives you content tailored just for you so this is all an illusion. everything we see on our timelines is intrinsically biased.

c’mon just look at the recent us election. trump is the most despised man on earth online but guess what? he won in a landslide, first republican in around 20 years to win the popular vote and he took with him every single swing state. to me it’s more than obvious that there’s a big disconnection from reality and social media after witnessing those results because if you go by what’s going on online, you’d think kamala was even going to flip texas and win this election in a reagan style landslide.

let’s be honest here if the keyboard activists on twitter can’t even make trump jobless, somebody who is universally hated online and is actually in a position of power, why are we taking them seriously? they obviously won’t boycott shit even if random tweets saying “boycott stranger things” get 300K likes when we just witnessed that when the time comes to make actual change, they can’t even bother leaving their houses to vote.

Can you make a tutorial on how you world build and make ocs? I can't seem to make any people in my brain, but then when I try to come up with environments jobs, beliefs and little details to slowly come up with someone, I think: well I don't really know how people have influenced the world- it's a weird loop

To be honest, I don't think I can! Writing is an extremely personal process. The way I write is directly related to how I process things, what I find important in stories, years of my own analysis of my and other's writing, etc... The way you write will be unique to you, as well. But I can explain how I personally think of it.

The short answer:

Write. Write anything and everything, it's a tool to explore your ideas. Analyze your own writing, and write more. Then, as you discover which ideas you want to develop, write more to explore them more. You won't know what you want otherwise!

The long answer:

I think this kind of loop is common. It's easy to feel like everything needs to be done "at once," because our job as writers is to make elements logically fit with each other for our readers. But as you've discovered, developing multiple elements simultaneously isn't really possible, or at least is extremely difficult.

Personally, when I think of writing, I break it into three major elements; characters, world, and plot. As much as possible every scene explores one or more of these, and as much as possible these three things tie back into what I personally consider most important: theme.

Everything I do is in service of the themes I want to present. Without them my events feel aimless. It can take a while to discover them, but they're the core of my work. You will have to discover what you feel is the core of yours. Analyzing other media helps with this too.

Concepts in your brain exist in a state of infinite potential. But when you start writing you have to start making choices, which removes potential as you move forward... But you have to move forward anyways. If there's ideas you want to explore later, you can always explore them later.

What this ends up meaning, to answer your question, is that I don't think of my characters as "people in my brain" or my worlds as something people have influenced... Not at their core, at least. They are tools that I use to represent specific ideas. Obviously they're also my blorbos, but mostly they're serving a specific narrative purpose.

So above all else... Write. Write, and discover what you're writing about, and then start over and write with that in mind. Keep doing this. But you have to write!

He was ALL black with blue eyes and incredibly fluffy tail. His mother is albino so I was thinking the all black could mirror her all white. And she is fluffy tailed (she wears makeup to hide the extent of her albinism)

The reason it changed to what it is now (aside from ‘obviously Mordecai’s’ purposes) is because it wouldn’t have made sense genetically. Both of Mordecai’s parents are black with white markings and all his siblings are as well. So his fur pattern is a dominant gene. Albinism is a recessive gene and usually heterozygous. So Mordecai’s BB traits and Millicent’s Aa traits in consideration, Benjamin looks the way he does because that’s the most genetically probable outcome. He could possibly have an albino child though! Think he has like a 25% chance or less.

Ok hear me out: Desmond as one of Ezio’s bastard children. He gets captured or something by whoever and gets forced to use the apple (since Ezio could open the vault because dna or some shit I wasn’t paying attention and by extension Desmond would also be able to)- which leads to the Apple basically sending Desmond into 2012 where he grows up for a while?

So forget Desmond going to the past- let’s send him into the future and warp his entire perspective of time so he just comes back and has NO idea what year it is and doesn’t believe anybody when they tell him when it actually is

I mean, if you really wish to hammer in the angst, you can make Desmond’s time in the future at the start being hopeful, with people helping him because he looked lost. Getting him on his feet and helping him move forward in this strange new world. Desmond was pushed into the future young enough that he has no problem acclimating with everything that was happening with the stubbornness and curiosity of a child but old enough to remember the Borgias and how Cesare taunted him about his father who didn’t even know he existed and would never think to look for him.

Let’s say Desmond is around… 10 or 11 years old when he’s transported in the future. That would make him be born in 1490, during the time a 31st year old Ezio was looking for any clues that would lead him to the Apple. It is during this time that he shared a night with a woman who looked a lot like Cristina.

Too much like Cristina, some may say, to be a coincidence.

Ezio would say that he had too much to drink back then and he had, as shameful at it was, not remembering the night correctly.

We’ll keep it a mystery if her similarity to Cristina was simply a coincidence or if this was the Calculations at play… with something more. (To muddle the waters, you can have other people say that she didn’t look like Cristina at all, if anything, she looked like Sofia… maaaayybbe)

Anyway, the main point is that Desmond returns to the past (or his actual present) on 1503 when Ezio took the Apple from the Borgias.

And this is where the timey-wimey aspect of this entire thing changes…

So we can have:

Desmond’s time is accelerated and he’s been in the future for the past 10+ years. He was living and found small pockets of happiness in the future that he considered returning to the past as… a punishment.

Desmond’s time in the future advances the same time as the past so, to him, 3ish years have passed as well. This would make Desmond around 13~14 years old roughly.

Regardless, Ezio knows Desmond is his son because Leonardo remembers seeing him and hearing Cesare talk about him (this is also the main reason why Ezio was looking for Desmond the entire time he was in Rome as well).

And here’s the kicker:

Desmond isn’t the name given to him by his mother. Desmond Miles is the name he took when he was taken to the future.

And now we have the subplot of Ezio wondering if his son is meant to be the Desmond that Minerva spoke of in the vault. And if he is… did that mean Ezio had to help Desmond return to the future so he can save the world?

Hi there, anon!

I will tell you the quick answer to this question, but I feel the need to preface by saying that I pay for the VIP subscription and occasional additional devil points (this is rare, the sub is usually enough for me to get what I want lol).

Fast answer: For demon cards, I have three UR+ cards for each sin, all of which are somewhere between level 90 and 105. For memory cards, I have three UR cards for each sin, levels between 80 and 90. I unlock as much of the devil's tree as I can, but if I only have two skill levels, then I only do that much.

This allows me to skip the lesson battles if I use the strongest version of Ruri's shovel thing. I can't remember what it's called at the moment adklfjf but you know, it's the little shovel item? If I use one of those, I can clear the battle at rank A which means I can skip. I think this is a VIP thing, too, but I don't remember for sure.

That means I'm not entirely sure exactly how high the levels of your cards need to be to pass in general. Because I spent so much time between lessons in OG trying to level everything up enough to pass battles, I have been meticulously building my cards ever since NB was released. I just didn't want to have to wait MONTHS between lessons lol.

That being said, my lovely mutual created an amazing tool to help you level up your cards! You can find it here! I highly recommend using it, especially if you're an f2p player!

I know getting through the levels can be difficult if you're not spending money on the app. And even though I try to spend as little as I can, I'm still using real money which gives me extra resources to get all those cards and level them up. I just happen to be lucky enough to have a little extra to use on silly things like this.

ok idk if anyone's asked this before. but. i've been following your fics for the past while (lovelovelove btw) and realized for the first time yesterday when i perused your masterlist just how many you've published. holy shit dude!! mega kudos. i've been polishing up a couple different wips since new years this year but haven't published any so far, so ig i wanted to ask for advice on getting out there as a fic writer? i've never published before lol. what's ur methods and advice, chef

ahhh thank you :) i am so excited for you!! imho you're standing on the threshold of a beautiful adventure, like you've packed your bags (got some wips) and are ready to head out the door. it's intimidating but in my experience the first comment you get will make all the stress worth it; it will wash away your reservations and give you a hit of affirmation that will only drag you further on into sharing more. it's a virtuous circle that you just have to start.

as trite as it sounds, my biggest piece of advice is to fake it until you make it, like pretend you've published a hundred times before and are perfectly confident and entitled to put your work up in public. that's what i did the first time, i pretended to be someone normal lol. i knew what i expected to see from others and made my story summary and tags look like that to avoid negative ripples (no such ripples really exist in reality, but i know how anxiety whispers lies).

it worked because there's no front door or barrier to entry to posting on ao3, you know? you are exactly as welcome and valid as i am there; we both see the same site back end and the same draft page. you are the same as anybody who has already published. if you have wips and have something that could reasonably be considered finished? pick one, something small even, and just post it. you can edit it once it's live if something dire comes up, i do it all the time.

this is actually something that is causing me a lot of writer's block right now, the fact that i am being far too perfectionist and precious about the next chapter of my main wip. i simply care way too much about the story, so i'm so scared of doing it wrong, so i've been sitting on it. but the way that i've published more 50 stories in the past is trusting my gut about when something is done and pushing it out to the public before i hold myself back.

you have to just keep moving forward, that's the key. tell yourself the next story will be better and remember the last story is better than you think it is. make your chapters as long or as short as you feel is right, post as often or as sparingly as you need. share on other social media once you're done if you want, people want to know there is more of the thing they love in the world, you know? you're offering a gift, and that's kind.

i know that all the advice in the world is basically useless unless you see it at the right moment you need it, and none of my advice is anything that you haven't heard before, but if you need a sign that it's time to pull the trigger, that you are allowed to post things, that people want to see your work, that you're welcome and important to the community by sharing your voice—please take this post as that sign. be confident, because you deserve that confidence, and hit post <3
