"At least as old as Starling, or three times her age." Rafaele stated bluntly. "And before you ask, I have no clue how old she is."

Arlyn groaned, facepalming himself. "We could be here all day guessing...how about we all make bets later?'

"I agree with Arlyn." Tahirah giggled, smiling.

Ariel sighed, shaking his head. "Leave me out of the bets, please. I thought I had a good grasp on how old both were earlier, but now I'm not so sure. I'd hate to be wrong and lose coin in the process."

"Leave the rumor-finding and inf0-finding to us!" Tahirah chimed, smiling at Lena and the others. "Good luck looking for Red and all the suspicious dragon people."

Candace gave Luciano a look. "I know you're fond of Loreley and her place of business, but this is not a leisure trip."

"I know, I'll be fine," Luciano groaned softly, but Araceli sighed.

"Just go..." She muttered something under her breath about men and not thinking enough with their brains.

Rafaele took a deep breath. "As you wish. Good luck."

Lena, Nadine, Siobhan, Maria, Luciano, and Rafaele all made it to the port town. It was semi-busy at this time of day, with people going in and out of buildings, so they hadn't noticed the group teleport in the way they did. Siobhan had also quick-changed (without anyone seeing, somehow) into gear that was more like a normal civilian - a seemingly plain cloak and tunic and skirt with matching shoes.

"So," Rafaele started, looking toward Luciano, "You said you knew a Loreley, and Nuriel also knows her? Do you know where she lives, or works...? We could ask her for information first."

"Lucky for us," Luciano chuckled lightly, looking toward him, "where she lives and works are the same location. Loreley runs the establishment herself and keeps the peace there by fending them off with either ice magic or by summoning some ice golem. It's usually open in the evenings. I'm sure she won't mind an early visitor or a few in case of emergencies like this though."

Siobhan adjusted her hair which was now pulled into a messy bun. "Which way is it?"

Luciano pointed to their left. "Literally just down the street here, fifth building on the right."

"Then let's goooo!!!" Maria rushed ahead -which forced Luciano, Rafaele and Siobhan to all go catch up with her.

This is a cute, lighthearted game that has great potential for silliness. You can choose whether you run this game with or without a GM: a GM would be responsible for setting the scene and coming up with encounters, but players can also collaboratively create problems for each-other. There's no inherent fantasy rules but it's easy enough to create fantastical or magical traits for your kids. Perhaps you're three elf children and a faun, or perhaps you're all secretly cryptid kiddos! If you want something that allows you to play silly little folks with low stakes, this game might be worth checking out.

Hallow Unseenis a Halloween-themed coming-of-age TTRPG, filled to the brim with cryptids and teen drama. This is a diceless system- all you need to play is a deck of cards!

The game is short and the character sheets are simple, which makes this game easy to learn. It makes use of tried-and-true tropes, which means that the premise of the game should be pretty understandable for new folks. It does require a GM however, so it’s probably something that one person should agree to pick up ahead of time. Check it out if you want to let everyone embrace their inner teenager, and all the messiness that brings.

Fey Critter Tea Party, by anniedisaster.

Gather your friends (2 or more) and journey through the Magic Wilderness gathering ingredients for some wonderful baked goods just in time for tea! This game is GM-less and only requires a simple D4 to play! 

It comes with 4 adventures, each with 4 sessions of play. Each session can take as little as a half hour-45 minutes to a few hours depending on how involved and how into the story building everyone is! 

There is no set DM, instead, everyone takes their turn building up parts of the story and role-playing as an NPC or an enemy, etc. The setting and the adventure outlines are simple and easy for both kids and adults to play. 

This game is cozy, cute, and with a theme of gathering ingredients for baked goods, I imagine it would pair well with some birthday cake to eat after you finish play! The game comes with 4 pre-written adventures, so to reduce prep you can simply pick one of those and follow along. 

Unlikely Ambassadors, by Luciano Correa.

The rumors circulating in the main hall are confirmed by the desperate cry of a mansion servant. The ambassador of Vol Redinjia, the country on the brink of an unprecedented revolution, has disappeared from the face of the earth, upsetting the distinguished partygoers. Nothing foreshadowed that an event like this, which would bring together important figures from the four main nations of the oldest continent, each with more conflicts than the previous one, would end so disastrously. By chance, fortune, or disgrace, nobody in this party is more qualified than you to solve the case. It is your duty to investigate every corner of the Duke of Nekronia’s mansion.

Unlikely Investigators is a GM-less roleplaying game of mystery and intrigue. Collaborate with your fellow investigators to solve the mystery of the disappearance of the ambassador; search for clues around the mansion, talk to the peculiar and distinguished party guests, and come up with a theory that explains the weird happenings around the case. The game comes in a trifold pamphlet format, ready to print and play.

Murder mysteries are classic party-pleasers. This game combines the the feel of Clue with the mystery-solving mechanics of Brindlewood Bay, which means that all of the players will get to solve the mystery together. This pamphlet comes with eight characters for your investigators to interrogate, and inspiration tables for clues and complications. There’s no demand that fantasy be present in the game, but there’s room to make things magical, eerie, and/or horrific. I think this game is very smartly put together, and I recommend you check it out!

well. there they are. some info that i do got about each under the cut:

Victor

The eldest physically, but the youngest vampire.

Ex-priest. He's perpetually pissed off at Luciano for turning him, as he can no longer step foot inside of a church without it hurting him gravely.

Very bitter about the fact his soul was (probably) saved yet he still exists like this. The entire vampire bit is a struggle for him, to put it mildly...

He has totally prayed before a meal of blood only to accidentally bless it, essentially poisoning himself. He has never done it again since.

He is also the reason Luciano has his cross-shaped scar on his forehead! The first time they met, Victor freaked out and smacked him in the forehead with it. It was night time, dark, and his glowing eyes scared the shit out of Victor. It was the first thing he thought of—

Often tries to avoid hunting until the last possible second, right before his hunger-induced bloodlust kicks in. He hates being a vampire that deeply, so he puts it off as much as he can.

Somehow, he's the strongest vampire of the bunch, much to Jacyn's dismay. It feels like Victor has wasted potential. While the others get moody and a little more violent when starved, Victor turns into a whole other man entirely. You'd think that'd be enough convincing for him to keep himself fed on time, but apparently not...

Jacyn

The eldest vampire. He's been around the longest. It shows in his skin with how sickly it appears. Luciano likes to bug him about it.

Definitely let himself get turned thinking immortality would solve some problems of his (it did not). What problems? I've yet to work that one out.

Very much wants power. He's sort of "asserted" himself as the head of their dysfunctional house, it sporting his last name. None of them really care, so it wasn't much of a fight.

Believes humans to be beneath immortal beings. Their mortality places them a step below someone like him. This was not the belief he held before wanting to turn, though.

Much more violent than the other three solely due to not being afraid of getting his hands dirty. He likes to play to his natural strengths, and blood-drinkers... well, they have inhuman levels of natural strength.

Luciano

Second youngest vampire.

As probably very evident by now, he's quite the pest. He's always poking his nose into other people's business or making playful (or what he believes to be playful, at least) jabs at the others. He's quite fond of Victor, while Victor... it's complicated. He hates him, but he feels like he needs to get used to him being around.

Vain... his appearance physically is one of the most important things to him. Dirty his clothes and he'll kill you. Maybe even literally, depending on the garment. Arguably his biggest downfall—he's cried to Hellena about a torn cloak before, to paint a better picture.

Very care-free attitude. He's often out mingling with the night-life of their town.

He views humans like fodder, often referring to them as such and treating them the same way a human would speak about animals.

Drank the blood of someone on drugs once... never again. Not because he'd mind doing it again, but because none of the house knew how to handle a high vampire.

Hellena

Second eldest vampire and second eldest physically.

The easiest tolerated by Victor. The two of them will sometimes sit and talk.

LITERALLY THE MOST SANE IN THIS GODFORSAKEN HOUSE. Between Victor's constant self-loathing, Jacyn's desire for violence, and Luciano... being Luciano, she's so incredibly normal about things.

Drinks her blood though fancy cups! Instead of feeding all at once, she spaces it out. She just prefers it that way, hehe.

She's not sure what she's going to do with her eternity... it's depressing to her, the time she has set out before her. So, quietly, she's trying to find a sense of purpose, a personal journey that's been going on for many, many years.

Sometimes she feels like she's parenting the rest of them. It's exhausting... but, admittedly, humerous. If anything else, she's content to make sure the other three don't somehow manage to kill themselves.

Despite her appearance, she's not that worried about things like ruining her clothes. Possessions and the like are easily replaced and fixed.

Smokes cigarettes. Her lungs don't suffer. She used to as a human and that habit carried over.

As you can see, Victor is definitely the most fleshed out so far LMAO, he's the first one I made and the first I've done rp with among friends, so I've got more knowledge about him. u_u

ooo , it depends on who started the argument ; whoever is in the wrong would more than likely apologize first . idk why but out of every one in our group , i can see these two being the most level - headed ones when it comes to disagreements ? And we’re back in the Stuart-Waddell household. Welp, I messed up the volunteering thing by leaving the lot and returning back but ah well. More opportunities down the line for empathy growth. Don’t like any of Roxana’s current whims at the moment so I��m going to have to go into the rewards thing and then pick up a want refresher potion. Let’s see, we got work for everyone in an hour expect Roxana. Annnd Roxana is feeling utterly flirty thanks to this lot having the Romantic Aura around it. And all of those romance socials I queued up because of said initial flirty moodlet. Let’s see, let’s do some cooking and baking first, since the kids only have so much food left for them. That being said, I’m making cookies. Both flirty heart and sugar ones. Real curious to see what moodlet the kids would get with those cookies.

Oooh, one of the people I thought about turning into a vampire dropped down for a social chat. Let’s just use our new ability to check his traits and...paranoid, slob, self-assured. I don’t really think being an actor, an astronaut, an athlete would be up his ally either. So we got another cop, or military. Or a part-time fisherman! I honestly could go either or between military and cop. ...I’m thinking cop because military requires a lot of fitness and this dude has a handlebar moustache. It’s very cop vibes.

...annnnd Roxana decided to automatically flirt with him. GREAT. WONDERFUL. Let’s continue this uh, shall we? Flirts are a go! Oh boy oh boy oh boy. Kids are back from school as well. Time to manage needs! Emille wants pizza, which hey, good for her. Let’s order some. Selena wishes to be alone so I sent her to her room to read a book. Harrison is embarrassed from failing to prepare well for a test. Also low fun so let’s sort that out. Emille has her pizza and can now focus on her aspiration, aka play the violin some more! Now let’s see. Selena wishes to make more friends, both child and adult but hmm. Can’t leave the lot. Her sister’s playing the violin after all! And just as I was about to let Roxana and Omar have some steamy times, she gets utterly depressed by the fact her relationship with Avery withered and decayed. Likely, by being weird in proxmity to him. Alas and woe! Anyway, Selena befriended Avery before she went to bed. Her sister managed to get creativity up to 10! Now just needs to make some pictures. And Harrison has returned from work still embarassed.

With Roxana’s near eternal flirty mood, I actually set her to do what I was going to do ages ago. Write a romance novel. It’s totally vampiric propaganda. Omar wishes to mentor a child but also! Sounds like a good excuse to volunteer! Again! Night time volunteer time! A moment of peace and quiet for me, as I had all hands on deck managing all of the everyone in this house.

...got an alert about Yuki’s ghost about to pass on. Maaaaaan. I’m sad. Anyway, Omar’s goal is to still mentor a kid so he’ll still tutor Harrison in fitness. Huh. Mystery Artist Carved Faces into Rocks on Coney Island Beach in 1970s | Amusing the Zillion

It's my father. He's the mystery artist. He and my uncle, his eldest brother Luciano. My dad is part of history!

A lady from The Coney Island History Project emailed my mom with an amazing story.

My mom:

"...so we get a call, out of the blue, from a woman who has been trying to solve the mystery of the carved rock heads at Brighton Beach! someone led her to John....mystery solved!!! we haven't thought of these in 40 years....this is hilarious!!!"

The email she got:

"Dear Linda and John,

It's so amazing to have found you and confirmed that John is the artist who carved the face on the rocks! I first saw a photo of the carvings in 2010 and wrote about it on my personal blog Amusing the Zillion. My friend Bruce Handy searched for the location of the carved faces and took many photos. I wrote about it in two blog posts, where you can find links to his photos.

The rocks are usually covered by the sand. They become visible when there's a storm and have reappeared recently. Some of my Coney Island friends, including open water swimmers, post photos on Facebook. Over the years, we were not able to find out for sure who did the carvings.

Some people suggested the names of other artists. A few years ago a friend mentioned the name John Philip Capello and suggested he was the artist after seeing his work and realizing he had lived in Brooklyn.

I have worked for the Coney Island History Project since 2007 and would like to record an oral history for our archive at www.coneyislandhistory.org/oral-history-archive

one of the things i really appreciate about the mafia trilogy is the extent to which charisma & friendliness & love coexist with brutality & cruelty. i mention this constantly in the context of sal being a particularly well written villain but it applies across all the games. paulie being goofy and genuinely affectionate and clearly caring deeply about sam & tommy (especially in "a trip to the country" for example), but also beating the absolute shit out of people on collection duty to the point of serious permanent damage. joe being an incredibly close and loving friend to vito (not to mention henry, marty, etc) but frequently escalating violence without regret (the greasers arguably, accidentally killing leon, chapter 13) and seeming entirely unfazed about the drugs and about the idea shaking down struggling workers. henry showing clear affection toward vito & joe (sparing leo, saving joe from luca, keeping quiet in the hotel) but outside of that being incredibly coldhearted–the "only deadbeats do drugs" spiel, the gloating over killing pen, chapter 3 in general, not giving a shit about the rules by 1951. lou marcano, despite being a huge piece of shit, being locally famous and evidently incredibly charismatic. salieri's whole "benevolent boss" thing, no matter how bullshit it is. mike bruski being relatively friendly to vito at the junkyard only for joe to then describe him beating the shit out of a guy for spilling beer on his betting slip. luigi being a sweet, charming old man who used to be a feared hitman. hell, even vito beating up that guy at the docks at the beginning of ch3 because he wouldn't pay derek's bullshit barber fees, despite overall being motivated as a person largely by love (which he seems unable to express other than as "i will hurt people/be hurt for your sake"). obviously there are some total assholes like luca and clemente but they're presented as exceptions.

because that is, from what i've read at least, largely accurate to real life. of course you got some all around awful company but from what i've heard it seems like a lot of figures like luciano and lansky and capone did actually love their loved ones, and were charming and genuinely pleasant to hang out with if you were on their good side. and in order to work people over i guess you have to be. but in generally, people aren't card carrying supervillains. and it's nice seeing that they leaned into how normal and friendly these guys could come across when they weren't actively doing gangster things. it makes them scarier imo.

["On September 9, 1992, the first day of school in New York City, I scrounged a token and took the subway out to Middle Village, Queens, with Amy. Most of the school district was racially mixed, with shops as likely to have Mexican tortillas as Turkish preserves, or cartons of kimchi. I turned one down, saying I couldn't afford it, but refused even when Ana Simo, that mild-mannered Cuban playwright, offered me a discount. I still cringed at the word lesbian.

When we were all there, the sixty of us marched down Metropolitan Avenue to the elementary school, P.S. 87, singing at the top of our lungs, "Oh when the dykes, oh when the dykes, oh when the dykes come marching in." We revised a few other Dixieland standards and proclaimed, "We are family, I've got all my sisters with me." One banner read, "Teach About Lesbian Lives" and another "The Lesbian Avengers." Somebody clutched an enormous bunch of the balloons, which had created a ruckus at the printer's, who kept misspelling l-e-s-b-i-a-n. We were met with disbelief, anger, fear, a few approving nods, but mostly the typical New Yorker's disinterest. Like them, I pretended I was totally cool with it. Hell, I did this kind of thing four or five times a week. No big deal. Like it was no big deal that when we got to the elementary school, the cops came with their big blue arms and shiny shoes and tried to get us to leave.

At the civil disobedience training session, Maxine Wolfe explained it was perfectly legal to have a picket and hand out flyers. It was a public sidewalk, for crying out loud. And she'd been doing demos since the sixties, first for worker' rights, then women, then people with AIDS. But who knows what cops will do? Nothing, as it turned out. Maybe it was our unshakeable knowledge of our rights, or how we continued singing, handing out balloons, giving interviews and flyers, while our negotiators negotiated with them. Or maybe they just took one look at this group of relatively innocuous females in knee socks and plaid skirts and thought, "What the heck. It's New York. Let's go get donuts."

More than one kid go their first lesson in the real world when an Avenger handed them a balloon and their red-faced mother grabbed it away. No way is my little Sean or Antonio or Karen going to be like that. As for the Xerox of our alternative alphabet— A for Acceptance, Action, and W.H. Auden; B for James Baldwin, Rita Mae Brown, and boycotting bigotry— some got tucked into pockets, others pointedly ripped into shreds. Though not in front of me. I stayed with the other picketers tracing that tiny oval on the sidewalk and avoiding confrontation. Maybe I held a sign for a while, feeling goofy and embarrassed, as I always did, at so much emotion being displayed.

The weather was nice, anyway, one of those perfect fall days with dark blue skies and white fluffy clouds that did not send forth lightning bolts or hail or anything at all to kill the lesbians. Nope, nobody died, there in front of the schoolyard. Neither were kids converted, or perverted, or particularly traumatized except when their angry moms grabbed their shiny balloons and let them float away. We just signaled to the world that we existed. We'd been kids ourselves in school. The only thing different about us as adult lesbians was a few additional years. And self-awareness. Which was just beginning on my part.

Funny, I write that like it's nothing. Just signaling to the world we existed. When it was like setting off a bomb. What else could it be? Lesbians plus elementary schoolchildren.

We left en masse when the last student entered the school. In those days, bigots would sometimes haunt queer demos, grab a few stragglers, and beat the crap out of them. What if the FT got a glimpse of teen Tommy killing Nucky, and that’s why she was so cross-faded when Nucky walked in?

Hi, Oxi! Do you have any hcs of Martín meeting his neighbours for the first time?

I’m sure the kids met before Antonio got a grip of them all, but since I hc Tinchito remembers almost nothing from his days before being a colony, I’d share my hcs of when Antonio introduced his colonies among each other. First I’ll share two that are widely spread among LH’s community and that I find particularly charming:

Uruguay was a bitter during the early days. I just love this hc, Baby Sebastián was a menace of a child and I kinda imagine Baby Tinchito carrying him around in his arms and being very “It’s ok, that’s how he shows affection” as he pretends Sebitas’ tiny teeth nibbling at his hand don’t hurt.

Chile wouldn’t let Antonio lay a hand on his hair so Manuel wore it very long during his early time as a colony, so when Toño introduced them Martín mistook him for some girl. It took a fist in the nose and angry Chilean screaming for him to learn that the kid from the other side of the Andes was no girl but another boy. And I hc this event was what made Manuel agree to get his hair cut.

I can’t take credit for those two, but on a personal note;

I hc Tincho and Miguel didn’t get along too well, and I imagine Tinchito deciding he didn’t like him like hate at first sight. Peru was the only Vicerroyalty in the South for a long time and I think that made Martín a little jealous. Aditionally, it meant Martín was part of Peru and should listen to him, which totally didn’t sit right by him. On top of that, I hc Miguelito was a rather proud bossy kid during that era, and Tincho was (is) not a fan of authorities and being bossed around and thus he challenged him a lot.

Martín met Luciano when kids this one time under Spain and Port's careful supervision. Upon hearing Lulu's Portuguese, he pointed out his Spanish was very funny, not in a mocking or unkind way but definately not the right thing to say. Lulu got upset by the remark and sulked back at him like the whinny bratty baby he was. He then refused to talk or play with Martín, which Tinchito took as personal offense and decided he didn’t like Lulu very much either. Not the best of starts.

I have no hc for Paraguay or Bolivia. I guess he had no issue with Daniel, and with Julio I’m sure it was hate at first sight very much like it happened with Miguel.

Finally got to watch “Lansky” and really liked it!!! :D I mentioned this before but I was a huge fan of “Boardwalk Empire” and learning about Team New York as we called them always fascinated me and they made a great movie about Meyer’s life story. Harvey was a perfect choice to play him at the end of his life and the whole cast was great. The movie is split between Meyer telling his story to an author David who wants to write a book about him while the FBI are still after him, and flashbacks to show Meyer’s past. It was historically accurate as far as I can tell and more so than a lot of the other movies and shows I’ve seen about him and his friends. They did a great job too showing his friendships with Benny Siegel and Charlie “Lucky” Luciano, included Frank Costello a bit, and showed his life with his first wife Anne and their kids. Really loved the bond he formed with David in this too. It always amazed me how these Jewish and Italian childhood friends took over and completely changed the mafia and how much of a mathematical genius Meyer was too. Even had some funny moments and had to laugh they cast a really attractive guy to play Benny too. LOL Totally recommend it especially for fellow “Boardwalk” fans.

Now that you're a country, there are probably a lot of politics and conflicts your country has with other countries. Flavio makes sure protect you even more than usual. He ropes Luciano and Lutz into making sure they take care of you too when they're around.
