I wonder if there’s a false equivalency with Luca and Edgar. Cause I’ve been thinking about how Orpheus said he brought Luca in because he thought he’d make a good replacement for Edgar because they were similar enough, but when you put them side by side they aren’t that similar at all. From the little I know about Luca (and it is very little) wasn’t the reason he attacked Alva because of hurt pride/ego and misunderstanding? He thought Alva stole his father’s transcripts not knowing that they had been partners before and lashed out. Comparing that to Edgar who doesn’t care about how he’s perceived or other people’s opinions, as well as his reason behind killing Sarai being rooted in Sarai being a legit groomer, it makes them super different. Not only that, but every time they’re in essences together, it’s like Netease makes a point to emphasize that they are not the same.

Golden Ratio: the whole thing is the alchemists are foolishly trying to recreate the philosopher’s stone not knowing a) they’re doing it wrong by focusing on either technological or biological and b) that the philosopher’s stone itself is a scam and hurts the user more than helps them. Luca is one of the alchemists trying to recreate it and would be considered one of the “fools” in their context while Edgar knows how to create the philosopher’s stone and the futility of it. It portrays Edgar as being more enlightened than Luca and understands something he doesn’t.

Man in Red: man in red doesn’t have any real blessings and plays on the fear, hatred, and ignorance of the people to get them to make sacrifices. Luca is one of his followers but Edgar recognizes what Naib is doing which shows this pattern of Edgar seeming to understand something Luca doesn’t get. It makes me wonder if Orpheus made a mistake in trying to replicate Edgar with Luca because he might’ve fundamentally misunderstood how Edgar functioned
