#little shop of horrors#little shop#lsoh#lsoh twoey#audrey ii#audrey 2#sal art#so um. guess what i saw at Westside!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#holy shit. oh my god. jesus christ#ive never seen a professional production before#and like more power to the volunteers/students whose productions i HAVE seen#by god they did their best considering the challenge this show presents#BUT THE SHEER SCOPE OF THE OFF-BROADWAY ONE???????????????#first of all i have to shout out to everyones vocal performances because they were absolutely stellar#it was corbin bleu and constance wu and i had no idea the latter could sing?? but she killed it as audrey#AND AARON A. HARRINGTON AS TWOEY.................MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#THE RAAAANGE HE HAS IT ALL#but with that said#Jesus Christ The Puppetry Was Fucking Otherworldly#no pun intended i swear#like. again the volunteer performances did so well considering#but the sheer breadth of the skill difference between them and the professionals#GOD!!!!! GOD.#SHE HAD SO MUCH LIFE. SO DYNAMIC. AND SHE WAS *SILLY*#a lot of twoey's mannerisms were like a combination between a snake and a cat and it was delightful every time#in her final stage especially she had all these little like. head tilts and minute reactions to things#and it just made her feel so ALIVE.#her full-bodied laughs mean everything to me#EVEN WHEN CORBIN WAS DOING THE HANDHELD SHE WAS SILLY!!!!!!! ya never know funniest fucking choreo EVER#UGH ive said enough. ive said enough. i will talk until my tags start getting deleted if i keep going so ill leave it there

Feel free to explain why whichever one you pick is your favorite! I love forming discussions around movies, shows, etc and lsoh has a lot of things to talk about!
Also I know there’s more like West End productions and tours but I just stuck to the main ones. Oh and if anyone picks the cartoon as their favorite, I wanna talk to ya. I’m not mad I’m just curious as to who actually likes it better than literally anything else 😂

oh also, fun little tidbit about orin's songs: dentist has very prominent and consistent percussion (im convinced it was inspired by "oh yeah, maybe baby" by the crystals.) this sets him up as a character who is stable, powerful, methodical, and consistent in his actions. its also a musical contrast to audrey, whose music is very melody-focused
now (it's just the gas), on the other hand (specifically during orin's parts) is the complete opposite. the rhythm speeds up and slows rapidly, which not only makes it a horrifically difficult song to play and perform, it also symbolizes his slow fall toward death! as he gets weaker, that steady rhythm he once had fades and it becomes more erratic and inconsistent. its super clever and im surpised i havent found other mentions of this
#excerpts from my horribly long essay on orin#just some treats cuz i havent been as active#will be releasing a longer post later today probably? not the off broadway analysis its not ready yet#lsoh#little shop of horrors#orin lsoh#orin scrivello#lsoh orin

homage to B-movies alert
#the tinglerrrrrr etc#looking at the site again like right right That movie. let's get these aesthetics#i don't think any plot differings has much to offer & live action B movie doesn't particularly suggest that to me anyways lol#but who knows. the mysteries of A New Production As Yet Unseen By Audiences#lsoh#folds my arms coming straight from wikipedia now hold on the original production Stayed off broadway#folds my arms now hold on there have obviously been broadway versions including Right Now; Right#folds my arms Wrong just looked it up it was broadway in '03; it's Off broadway now since '22#folds my arms anyways so like but it's Been on broadway & that was based on (or a restaging w/o any major material changes?) the#off broadway version and anyways the difference being set aside here like instagram audiences do not need to Know that difference

Okay so I really really need someone (anyone really) t know this n I'm feeling brave so. I'm confessin this. Is this weird? I'm so sorry if it is.
Scriv3lloirl is such a talented artist n he makes such funny posts—I'm really scared to talk wit him, or reveal myself, cus I actually dont know how old he is (an I'm a minor and I'm like 50/50 if I have a damn crush on this man.. I'll be fr 😭😭)
None of my friends really like Little Shop as much as I do, n I'm devastated and I really wanna be the Seymour to his Orin (cus he got me into shippin those guys.)
The way he draws Orin is so fckn cool n I love the way he draws Orin's leather jacket n his hooked nose n his super deep set eyes n fat Orin supremacy!!!!!! (I low-key wanna hold his hand (his Orin design) cos I think he would crush me.)
Scriv3lloirl has introduced me t so many ideas n headcanons n I kinda picked up his typin quirk and uggjwhahdmanrhe-
If he sees this, umm............ Hi!!!! I'm your #1 fan. 🦷 (I'm so scared to send this in.)
I cant tell you if it's weird or not but I can at least be weird with you. I feel there is a non-zero chance that every alloromantic LSOH fan on tumblr has a crush on that guy. I don't think it's ever made or said anything that wasn't the coolest thing i'd ever seen. It's art is impeccable. It's character interpretations are absolutely inspired. His OC designs are awesome. When I read his typing quirk I can practically hear the sound of a revving motorcycle. His pfp appears to be the photo for "Dentist!" on the back of the 1982 official off broadway cast album vinyl record. I'm also currently working on retrieving a piece of LSOH fanart that I never posted because tooth encouraged me to. one of tooth's pronouns are "tooth." everything about that is Objectively. Fucking. Awesome.
Everyone go check out @scriv3lloirl 's blog rn. It's a goddamn treat

hey! did you know there were a few songs that were written as possible additions to the movie version of little shop of horrors? lets talk about them!!
first and foremost, im getting all this information from a wonderful book called "Attack of the Monster Musical: A Cultural History of Little Shop of Horrors" written by Adam Abraham. its the best book ever written ever, if youre interested in the details of lsoh's creation, from the early inspirations to the most recent revival, this is the book you wanna read! again, my source is this book, please check it out of you can!!
okay, so heres the list of songs written specifically for the movie, some of them you might know already! also im not counting the cut songs from the stage musical, maybe ill talk about those another time. ill include song/lyric links if applicable!
Thundercrash: this song was a prototype to Some Fun now, and was meant to replace "Ya Never Know" and "Closed for Renovation". the name comes from a lyric in the original version of both songs, Ya Never Know ("and with a thunder-crash"). i cant find anything else on this song aside from the book, which gives us only 1 verse: "Seymour, the shnook / His life was the worst / Oh what a bore dirt poor is / Now take a look / His luck has reversed"
Some Fun Now: this one is used in the movie! youre definitely familiar with it lmao
Bad: first version of a final villain song for audrey II. this one's probably the most well-known, since it was featured on the 2003 broadway cast album as part of the cut songs. it's the only one included that wasnt cut from the orignal show!
Bad Like Me: the second version of a final villain song for audrey II. much less well known than Bad, this one includes musical motifs that ended up transferring over to the final version of the song! its also just a very neat song imo, probably my favorite out of these
Mean Green Mother From Outerspace: the final version of audrey II's villain song, which was obviously used! there's nothing to explain here, everyone knows this song lol
Your Day Begins Tonight: a song written for the final credits of the movie. sung by the urchins, its unclear if this song came before or after the other end credit song. not much is known aside from lyrics, apparently!
Crystal, Ronette, and Chiffon: another song considered for the final credits. this one actually got a howard ashman demo, and its also been covered by debbie gravitte and was performed by the cast of the recent off broadway revival! its gotten a good amount of attention!
this is all i have im pretty sure! hopefully you thought this was cool :] if i missed anything let me know!!!!!
