I'm n0rthern lrish and our food culture isn't really much of a thing, and I know most people outside n0rthern lreland try the food I grew up eating and say it is the blandest thing they've ever tasted in their life, how can I eat this stuff etc etc. and it IS bland af

but I moved to n0rway a year ago and I've had the worst year of my life (unrelated, I love n0rway) and I just made this pasta dish I grew up eating and the sauce is cream, butter, and black pepper. people might find it's too bland but there is something so comforting and gentle about eating the stuff my dad made me growing up. and people in my life have complained about it or insulted it, even jokingly, so much that I get embarrassed to cook for people or I laugh along and say "haha yeah I know" but I wouldn't trade n0rthern lrish food for anything right now

I have a real disconnect from my cultural identity because I'm not involved in the politics of my country and it feels like that is the basis for our entire culture (since it is the entire reason my country exists). I left n0rthern lreland because I wanted something more than the politics but now, it's often food that makes me feel a connection and I don't know. there's something really nice about that

I also just have to share that yesterday I was going through my photos from my second trip to Iceland in 2017, and I went onto the wiki page for Geysir because I was trying to determine which of my photos was geysir and which was strokkur.

I learned that in 1894, Lord Craig/avon (ofc N0rthern lreland didn't exist then, he was just a whiskey distiller - but he'd go onto be our first PM, was a key player in the partition etc etc) bought the Geysir area and he was the one to start charging entry fees. He then got bored and gave it to his mate, who dropped the fees, and then in 1935 it was sold back to Iceland. I legit never knew 😭

—¡Qué extraño! —dijo la muchacha, avanzando cautelosamente—. ¡Qué puerta más pesada! La tocó, al hablar, y se cerró de pronto, con un golpe.

—¡Dios mío! —dijo el hombre—. Me parece que no tiene picaporte del lado de adentro. ¡Cómo, nos han encerrado a los dos!

—A los dos no. A uno solo —dijo la muchacha. Pasó a través de la puerta y desapareció.

Dicen que si caminas en el bosque más recóndito a altas horas de la noche, es posible toparse con una antigua mansión abandonada, escondida en medio de los gigantes árboles oscuros. La gente siempre evita adentrarse en el bosque después de las 6 de la tarde, con el miedo de perderse y toparse con esta peculiar construcción, que, según dicen los habitantes del pueblo, carga consigo las más pesadas energías y espíritus en pena, que encerrarían a cualquiera que se atreviera a ingresar a su hogar. Pero el pasado viernes 13, marcadas las 3 de la mañana, un joven turista, muy aventurero, decidió ingresar a la mansión, ignorando las advertencias sobre las terribles leyendas. 

Al llegar a la puerta principal, se topó con una joven de su misma edad. 

—¡Genial, alguien más viene a explorar! —exclamó—. ¡Mucho gusto! Estaba esperando a que alguien se atreviera a visitar la mansión. Soy turista, al igual que tú. La verdad quiero ingresar con alguien, tan solo por seguridad—rió—. 

El joven, pese a no sentirse del todo cómodo, decidió no darle importancia, aprovechando que tendría una nueva compañera para esta aventura. De esta manera, la invitó a ingresar, e iniciaron su exploración. Al principio, todo parecía normal. Solo era una casa en muy mal estado: Las paredes estaban cubiertas de polvo y telarañas, y la madera de las puertas crujía con cada paso que daba. Mientras recorrían el lugar, encontraron una habitación que parecía haber sido sellada durante siglos. La habitación estaba completamente vacía, excepto por una puerta enorme en el fondo. Esta parecía ser la única forma de salir de la habitación.

—¡Qué extraño! —dijo la muchacha, avanzando cautelosamente—. ¡Qué puerta más pesada! La tocó, al hablar, y se cerró de pronto, con un golpe.

—¡Dios mío! —dijo el hombre—. Me parece que no tiene picaporte del lado de adentro. ¡Cómo, nos han encerrado a los dos!

—A los dos no. A uno solo —dijo la muchacha. Empezó a reír muy fuerte, y el hombre notó que sus ojos se tornaban cada vez más oscuros. 

Con una sonrisa, la joven pasó a través de la puerta y desapareció, abandonándolo dentro de la mansión en la cual sería captivo por el resto de sus días.
