I've been obsessed with this character for several weeks, so I wanted to put together a small collection of canon data and show some assumptions (headcanons) I have about what he'll be like when Funamuchi pays attention to him ✌️

Basic information (canon)

- He's a demon with a fiery personality. Hot-headed and a reckless idiot. He's also a big fool motivated by his own ambitions.

- Shio's one of Reficul's subordinates so he's Lowrie ex collegue, wich relationship was stated to be awful.

- His left eye is always red and both eyes can turn red if he wants.

Discussion

Assumptions

I was thinking why Ushio was translated as cow's tail and described as a cow demon. The truth is that I consider it to be a bad interpretation.

Despite its name refering to cows, it can also refer to cattle as an alternate translation of the kanji. And his hat looks like a regular representation of a dairy cow, but the spots are not only a physical quality of cows but of the bulls of the species, which would be the Holsteins (Although seeing the color of his hair, he would be a bull of Lidia).

This also can be confirmed by his hat, as he has a nose ring on it, which is only put on bulls to pull them without agitating the animal.

So he's no cow demon, but a bull (i think is obvious but Funamushi make weird things sometimes and it made it possible for him to maybe be a cow and not a bull).

Because he is a bull and according to the description of his personality, it is assumed that he is a violent person or that he gives in to violence easily, which makes me think that he is also dominant and has a certain ego, believing himself to be the best or seeing himself as a leader.

This is probably what led to him having a rivalry with Lowrie, as I don't see a past Lowrie buying the fact of being bossed around (which Greif is known to annoy him with) and bothered.

Additionally and in relation to the previous lecture, Ushio is mentioned as having certain ambitions, so I assume it has to do with the theme of superiority through strength. It's probably something he value a lot.

Other assumptions of the canon is that he does/has some of these things, if not most of them.

Speaks without thinking and talks a lot.

Does not learn from mistakes.

Have a great appetite.

He has not been seen smoking in his official art, but it is very possible that he drinks alcohol.

Has vulgar/rude speech.

His voice would be like those of the generic anime delinquents, raspy and always angry! Something like a in between of Bakugo katsuki and Masataka kiyomizu.

Greif stared at Lowrie, who was, as best he could, still raising his hands up as if to say ‘why not?’. She pinched the bridge of her nose, Lowrie’s hands starting to lower, clearly a bit discouraged from her reaction. “I mean, uh, if it’s such a bad idea…” His bravado was quickly disappearing, his hands now lowered, one leaning on her desk. “It’s just, the school year has been so busy, and you’ve been helping the kids after class so much that we haven’t really had any dates lately and it’s our anniversary…”

“Wait, it's our anniversary?” Greif looked up suddenly, putting down her red pen for corrections. “I thought it was a couple of weeks away…”

“Nope, it’s today.” Lowrie smiled weakly, Greif standing and trying to put things away.

“Lowrie I’m sorry, it completely escaped me. I…I can grade these papers another time, let’s go to the forest for a date or something.” Lowrie smiled at this and shook his head, putting a hand on hers to stop her. The smile had turned into a mischievous grin.

“It will be super dark by the time we get to the forest…anyways grading these papers are super important to you, so…we could have fun with it.” He smirked, tilting his head towards her chair. It was pretty easy to get what he was implying, actually earning him the rare flushed cheeks from Greif.

“We can’t have sex in here, what if a student walks in?!” Her voice was a hard whisper, her eyes glancing over at the door.

“No worries, I locked it earlier~” Lowrie leaned in to kiss her, his hand going down to her skirt. “Let’s just lift this up and have a little quickie~” Greif glanced at the door again, before leaning into the kiss, and slowly undoing Lowrie’s pants. Lowerie grinned to himself, pretty sure he had locked the door.

Greif let out a loud moan, her mug of pens and pencils crashing to the floor to join the papers there. The two were far too involved with one another to hear the knock and the click as the door swung open. “Ms. Greif I got a question about my math homework.” Yosafire walked in, carefree as always with Froze right on her tail.

“Sorry I tried to tutor her myself, but she isn’t…” Froze trailed off her words as she found two of their teachers in the middle of…bonding. She slapped a hand over Yosafire’s eyes, who had yet to really see what was happening. “SORRY!” Froze dragged Yosafire out of the room, the angel’s face bright red as Yosafire nearly whined about not being able to see what was happening.

The two teachers were frozen there before Greif slowly turned her head back to glare at Lowrie, who could only give a nervous smile. “…I really thought I locked it.”

➤ at first, lowrie would be completely harmless! he’s a nice guy (well... in the gray world, i suppose), so it’ll start off friendly and innocent- casual flirting, (un)funny jokes the usual.

➤ however, in the later weeks when he’s not working, you begin to notice that something’s off. lowrie seems more irritable than usual, less charming than he normally is.

➤ truth is, you keep him up all night. he can’t stop thinking about you and he doesn’t get it. he rants to reficul and his other demon friends, and they all tell him the same thing- he’s in love.

➤ but, he questions, isn’t love supposed to feel nice and warm? shouldn’t it be a happy feeling, not the dense, heavy jealousy he’s feeling stuck in his chest?

➤ seeing you talk to the others in the gray world sends him into a jealous frenzy and he has to leave before his true nature slips out. he doesn’t want you to see it. he has to be good enough for you.

➤ that facade slowly deteriorates with every demon or angel he has to kill, however. reficul is getting concerned with all the bodies he’s dragging in.

➤ even when he’s in his homeworld, he’s different. he snaps at any and everyone, telling them so very kindly to fuck off to hell.

➤ it takes all of his strength not to tell anyone who touches you the same thing.

➤ eventually, lowrie will lose it upon seeing you hug someone else. he’ll grab onto your arm and drag you away, rougher than you ever thought he’d be. you notice his eyes are different, more menacing, and a strange glow to his face.

➤ when you’re alone, lowrie shoves you to a wall and tells you exactly what’s on his mind, cursing and spouting crass things all the while.

➤ but you... you’re so sweet, so kind and innocent. he’ll cup your cheek with his hand.. you love him, right? even though he’s like this, you’re far too nice to hurt his feelings.

➤ say yes and you’ll keep the peace. he’ll be relieved, pressing his forehead to yours and hugging you tight. he knew you would! you’re his good, perfect little partner.

➤ say no, and, well... good luck. he’ll knock you out in an instant, tutting and wondering why you couldn’t just behave for him the way you should... why must he resort to force to make you love him?

Hi there, “Pitch Black World” is actually an unofficial, fan-given name. In TGG Lowri describes different worlds to his students. He refers to "Pitch black places", so that’s where it’s derived from. As such, I don’t think there’s really an official Japanese translation for it.  - Mod Met
